I’m rewatching Thems The Breaks, Kid and THE PARALLELS
First the motif of Raine Rhapsody/ Edas Requiem in the background, then obviously the stuff with Terra,
BUT THE TEAMS. THE DIVISION BETWEEN THE WILD AND COVEN WITCHES. AND THE OVERCOMING OF THAT DIVIDE. MM.
good stuff

I don’t know if anyone's mentioned this before, but Raine's titan badge after the time skip looks a bit different than the others:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have this red piece of cloth attached to their badge that I haven't seen on anybody else.
Now, theorising time: I think they might be part of the new government, maybe even the president of the Boiling Isles. Hear me out, I have good reasons to believe so (and it's not just because they're my favourite character and I'm biased, shush):
1) As the former head of the Bard Coven, they'd certainly be qualified for the job: Raine has been part of the government before (as much as you can be when you're not the monarch in a monarchy lol) and knows how to lead.
2) They're probably more respected/trusted by the population of the Boiling Isles than most other public figures at this point - working together with the wannabe genocidal former emperor tends to ruin your reputation, so someone who led a rebellion against Belos (and fought against him personally in the final fight, though the question is if anyone except the people who were there knows about that) and has ties to other known rebels aka Eda should be quite well-liked.
3) They have already proven that they're able to make sacrifices for the sake of the whole Isles (for example: risking their own life and that of the woman they love to stop the Day of Unity in Eda's Requiem). Most of the other characters, like Eda and Luz, in comparison, have proven again and again that they would never be able to sacrifice someone they care about - which is an admirable trait, don't get me wrong, but you want a political leader to be able to consider what choices are best for everyone and compromise, if necessary.
4) It would be a great conclusion to their character arc: Raine spent half of their life trying to destroy the coven system from the inside and has witnessed its worst sides first-hand, let them be the one to build something new and better for the future of the Boiling Isled.
So in conclusion: Raine has the potential to be a great president....... as long as nobody forces them to make public speeches regularly.
Them being a member of the government would also explain why they are present when that coven sigil was removed: Why would someone who specialises in Bard magic be needed for something that seems to be based on Healing and Abomination magic? Because they're a representative of the government/the Boiling Isles!
Also...........
Give me power couple Raeda as president of the Boiling Isles and Headmistress of the University of Wild Magic!!

I go over to my parents' place once a week for D&D & TV, and I've been introducing my dad and teenage siblings to The Owl House.
I have now watched Eda's Requiem with both my adopted kid and my adoptive dad, and totally cried both times. King changing his last name is something that can be so personal.
I know adoption and blended families have been a trauma for so many, so I know I'm so goddamn blessed to have the family I do. I'm glad we all found each other, and I'm glad family-oriented media is showing more and more types of families. It's so good.

I absolutely love Eda growing to care for Luz and King over the course of the series; she starts off as a "cookey irresponsible teacher" for Luz, neglecting to teach her magic despite Luz begging her to do so, over the course of season 1 you can see Eda growing to care about Luz and protecting her, saving her from random beasts and actually starting to try and teach her some real magic.
Tumblr media
Agony of A Witch shows this on full display, Eda growing to be fully attached to Luz and even saying "Thank you Luz for being in my life...".
Tumblr media
Season 2 continues Eda becoming a surrogate mother for Luz and King with Eda's Requiem, where she begins to have a sense of uselessness, knowing that King and Luz are going to return to their "real" parents eventually. She was finally getting to truly care about them and now she's going to have to face having to be alone again. Luz and King are going to go back to their real parents, so they would not need Eda anymore...right?
She's not their real parents, once Luz and King do find their real parents, they'll leave Eda and go back to their true homes...at least, that's what Eda thinks.
Tumblr media
But at the end of the episode, right after almost sacrificing herself and Raine in order to stop the emperor, Eda learns that, although she's not Luz and King's real family, she's still close to them and they are still close to her, and that they may still need her.
She may not be their real mother, but she's still a surrogate mother to them.
Tumblr media
(And then she becomes King's adoptive mother which is literally just perfect)
Tumblr media
Then we move 12 episodes later on O Titan, Where Art Thou. Eda doesn't have a plan for how to beat the emperor, but she doesn't want to crush Luz or King with the truth, wanting them to have one last good day before the entire world goes to shit.
Tumblr media
During the heist, in order to ensure Luz's safety, she asks Raine to take Luz on an airship far away from the day of unity, much to Luz's dismay. She's even willing to turn herself in just so Luz can be in a place where she's safe.
The episode shows how much Luz and King mean to Eda now, showing the found family dynamic that the show has been building since Season 1.
Eda went from being a female Grunkle Stan to being a loving and caring parent for Luz and King, and it's probably one of my favorite arcs in the whole series.

So I don’t know if you know of Doug Walker, but recently released his Disneycember review of The Owl House.
While he praised a majority of the show, he criticized the main villain, Belos, of how he was written.
Many of the comments tried to defend the writing of the villain.
Doug Walker..
Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
Yes, I am very familiar with Doug Walker; I loved his stuff along with Channel Awesome years ago and then the allegations came out and fortunately, the other contributors on that channel moved onto bigger and better things. Meanwhile, Doug just stayed the same, so I don't watch his stuff anymore.
Any way, I think it's funny people are scrambling to defend Belos' writing because, despite my own personal opinions on Doug as a critic, I actually agree with him.
For a show that is ostensibly about subverting tropes and not judging a book by its cover, by showing how people can choose to change or not, etc. Belos is a throwback to an earlier era where the Big Bad had basic motivations and characterizations. And for a show like toh, that actually ends up hurting the narrative.
I have categorized the comments I found defending the writing and here are my responses to them:
Belos does have a deeper layer, you just have to look for it.
While a show can certainly foreshadow and provide little hints about a major character, eventually all of that setup will have to pay off somehow. There has to be a reveal both to reward the viewers that have been paying attention and to inform more casual viewers who may not have. Fans analyzing every little frame to extrapolate a major character's backstory only for that backstory to really not matter in the end despite it being set up for a season is just bad writing. full stop. [A viewer should also not have to look on social media for crucial information on a major character.]
It's also not clever that the show left so much room for interpretation on Belos; it just means that they didn't make a commitment to what was being set up and reduced his character to glib one-liners whenever we learn something interesting about him (Masha's "little bro was jealous of big bro" line and Papa Titan's whole spiel).
2. Belos would have been written better if the show had more time.
The Toh crew knew about the cancellation during production of Eda's Requiem and wrote all of 2B with it in mind. So they knew they were working on a time crunch but still introduced elements like the Collector when they should have spent the time wrapping up their story. The cancellation is not an excuse for sloppy writing.
3. Belos as a villain works more on a meta level.
So the argument here is that Belos is the antithesis to the BI; it's accepting and diverse while he is hateful and only accepts things that conform to his worldview. The characters in the story change and grow, while Belos does not. The problem here is that a villain can't only work on a meta level, it has to work on a narrative one as well.
If the BI is place that accepts weirdos then how did someone like Belos come to power? Oh, he lied his way to the top and created problems that never existed? That just makes your populace look dumb and easily manipulated. The BI being so accepting also undermines the threat credibility of the Emperor's Coven because why should we worry about them if they have no real influence over how the BI residents think or behave aside from when the plot needs them to?
Also, I strongly disagree with anyone who says that toh has a "people are complicated and choose to do good and bad" theme when all of the good characters can blame their bad actions on being manipulated or on circumstances outside of their control OR the narrative ignores/downplays anything bad they did (cough cough Amity and Lilith). Meanwhile, the villains are just shallow with basic motives and this is supposed to be a deep message about how Some People Are Just Bad.
If you're going to contrast why your good characters are capable of growth then you need to show why your villain does not. What is stopping them? How do they react if given a legitimate reason to change (that isn't a cheap jab at Steven Universe)? What is their justification for their actions?
Whatever the answer is, the narrative has to support it and not undermine it with a stupid joke.
4. Belos is so refreshing when every villain character is redeemed.
Watch more shows. If you think that every cartoon villain post-Steven Universe is being redeemed then you're incorrect. Redemption of a show or movie's Big Bad is still in the minority while the redemption of the main villain's lackey is a dime-a-dozen.
Ultimately, I think the problem with toh is that so many of its fans take its thematic statements at face value without ever really stopping to think about the execution of those themes and if they really work or not.
Belos just happens to embody this little trick that toh does: it claims to have bold and timely statements and important themes, but the structure and execution of the plot, character development, and world-building undermines any attempt at a consistent or coherent message.

I was wondering, do you have any headcannons on the BATTs?(Derwin/Katya/Amber)
They’re my favorite characters and yet they don’t really say anything and they look dumb but I love them
I headcanon they're all in their early 20's and Amber is the youngest
They're all former students of Raine which is how they became part of their crew in the first place.
Katya immediately started shipping Raeda after seeing their first interaction when reuniting in Eda's Requiem, and could tell there's history there 👀
Before that Katya kinda saw Raine as a Prudish Proffesor (Raine presents themselves a certain way around the BATTs) so when she found out Raine and Eda have history, she was thinking "Woah the OWL LADY? There's more to you than I thought Raine 😏"
(This is SO specific but if you've ever watched Good Omens, Nina's line in this scene, "You're a dark horse Mr Fell 😏". Is the same vibe I'm thinking of)
Amber thinks Katya's a weirdo for doing that. Both her and Katya got the feeling that Eda was Raine's ex. But unlike Katya, Amber immediately assumed Eda was the one to break Raine's heart. I mean this IS the infamous Owl Lady after all, who's constantly dating around 🤨
Amber sees Raine as like a pure, wholesome, parental figure, who can do no wrong in her eyes. (Again, Raine presents themselves a certain way around the BATTs). So she's protective of Raine and was originally suspicious of Eda
After she got to know Eda though she started shipping Raeda alongside Katya too. Derwin has no one idea the girlies are shipping them. He didn't even assume Eda and Raine had romantic history (he was asleep when they were flirting)
Derwin genuinely looks up to Raine as a mentor and admires their professionalism (Raine presents themselves a certain way yada yada)
Amber and Katya are more chotic while Derwin is the more calm straight man of the group
Katya's always trying (forcing) to get Raine to go out their comfort zone, like when she made them read that corny speech. (If not for Eda she probably would have tried to convince them to join a dating app to "find some hot milfs in their area")
Meanwhile Raine just hypes up any attempts Raine makes, like when she was encouraging them during their speech.
Amber is that one girl that's really into cute core stuff like Sanrio that's actually super scary in real life. She's like Abby from Turning Red.
They have a BATTs group chat. Raine initially agreed to it to send messages for any missions, but the BATTs end up using it to have regular conversations and send memes that Raine doesn't understand
Sometime Raine unintentionally becomes that one teacher talks to much about their personal life. But the the BATTs are genuinely invested.
Katya specifically is always trying to get more info on their life out them. Asking seemingly innocent questions about Raine's past relationships that gets Raine to go on rants before realizing and getting embarrassed.
Despite joining to be apart of a rebellion, the BATTs end up seeing each other as family. Much to Raine's guilt knowing the risk of what could happen to any of them.
The BATTs stay friends after Belos is defeated and they become friends with Steve as well

I want to write an essay about Raine's (short, but sweet) arc in The Owl House now that the show is officially over, but for now I just want to put my thoughts somewhere about their arc in the final episode, as to not lose them. Thoughts under the cut!:
I am glad that Raine had an active role in defeating Philip, and had their own symbolic break away from the covens when they broke their violin.
I also loved the return to the bard magic they invented- the whistle-during both the struggle to cast Belos out of their body, but in the last fight as well. It was a part of their return to self agency, a nod to a time before the coven system where they were allowed to be free and explore magic on their own terms.
It's interesting to me that Philip calls them "annoyingly powerful," and it makes me believe honestly that their ascension to being a coven head was, while based on skill, also based on the fact that he knew they were. Belos always wanted to take advantage of that power, and control it. We see this with Lilith, and Eda as well. I believe it stands as a further explanation for the brain washing and the only time we see a sigil used against somebody.
Raine is one of the most powerful witches on the Boiling Isles, even with the constraints of their coven sigil. They not only broke out of the collector's puppet spell as a show of that true power, but would break from being possessed by Philip as well multiple times- and they almost stopped him on their own.
But Raine failing to stop Philip on their own is also significant. Raine needed help to do that- and Eda being the person to put their glasses on them, pull them from Philip's corruption of the isles, and show them that they're safe was the final crossing of the threshold for Raine. It's another return to a time before they lost their agency, but in a way that shows both themself and Eda have changed.
If they're going to defeat Belos and share the new future free from constraints with somebody, why not Eda their childhood friend, and her adopted children Luz the human and King the Titan. Why not end it all by quite literally stomping out the coloniser monster that caused them so much pain and heartbreak?
I'm also okay with them not returning to being a bard in the epilogue. I wish we would've been able to explore why exactly, and I'd like to think that their arc that was scrapped due to cancellation would've. But I think their separation from that part of themself makes sense no matter the reason. It's part of an old, long lasting traumatic experience. Maybe they did return to it and we just sadly don't get to see it. Or, maybe they'll return to bard magic on their own terms. Maybe they won't. I guess I'm going to have to fill those gaps in on my own time through writing and fan content.
But in summary, I guess, I'm glad that they finally had a way to regain agency over themself. I'm glad they got an ending where their skills as a leader are respected and put to use. I'm glad the show continued this notion of trust with Raine working with the old Hexsquad and new Hexsquad members to rebuild. And I'm glad they get to share a community with Eda that they can both flourish in, with each other. Even if we didn't get a Raeda kiss.
I'm going to be mourning the loss of a character that as an nb transmasc person, is the first time I've really felt represented on screen. I'm so thankful to Avi Roque, Dana Terrace, and the entire crew of the show for bringing to life such a good, kind character. Eda's Requiem aired during a time where I was questioning what my gender meant to me, and was struggling to find the light in my life as a trans person. I will always be grateful.
Though I'm not optimistic that we'll get extra content in the future, I hope we do. I want to explore the Boiling Isles again, this time as it heals, and I want to do it with Raine, Eda, Luz, King, Lilith, and all the other characters that made this show so special to me.
But for now, I'm content I got to experience The Owl House. It was such a weird, proudly neurodivergent and queer show. Though I would've preferred a full third season I'm glad the ending was a sound, well written send off. Until we see more (if we ever do) I'm going to be watching and dreaming for the future, thanks to them.

as per my good friend @sepublic’s req, here are some quick notes from dana’s talk yesterday that i somehow managed to get into and wrote as it went on to remember everything, now that i’ve put my brain together and processed all the stuff dana said that y’all might find interesting :)) long post!
when i walked into the room she was just sitting on a chair eating cookies which i guess is irrelevant but it was a huge reality check because like… holy shit? dana terrace is a real human? and she’s eating cookies? i literally could not process her presence but that made it settle in a little more
first answer to a question was that after the shortening of toh she never quite got used to it and just had to suck it and learn to work with what she had. she says that she also feels uneasy by the current reality of the industry and wonders what’s in store for creatives, but hopes the landscape will change in the future
her first reaction upon learning about the shortening was to say “fuck you” and then lock herself away in her room to cry :,)
she heavily considered ending season 2 in an insane cliffhanger and then never actually finishing the show to spite disney, but was convinced by a couple of her friends (including matt braly!) to keep working on it
cancellation news came by the time eda’s requiem was being produced
she was asked about amphibia crossovers and she said that she likes to think anne and luz have crossed paths
a girl in an otter onesie thanked her for making the show. dana got emotional and cried, then got up to hug her
we were her first live event since the show aired!
she’s currently throwing ideas around and working on pitch for a new series (she’s not set on anything tho)
king was originally meant to be very tall
one of the projects she’d love to get to the most is a graphic novel
she’s also interested in writing for live action
hexside was not on her original plans (at least the version we know now) and the execs pushed her to add a school setting into the show
she found making season 1 a lot more challenging due to execs’ restraints
she would’ve liked to dive further into bump and eda’s relationship
the inspiration for belos comes from cult leaders (obviously) and matthew hopkins, as well as many of her own conservative family members, particularly those with homophobic ideals
she doesn’t like writing belos at all
when i told her my name she went “oooo” which made my soul melt from within
i asked if she was able to disclose any unused or potential plot threads she would’ve added if not for the short s3! she said that wasn’t something she could say anything about so she let me ask another question (we were talking for real and she saw my person there in the room can you fucking believe that. she passed me the mic with her hand. insane. i touched dana terrace mic)
so i asked if she was met with any challenges when pitching characters who were part of such a diverse cast, not only in regards to queerness, but also for not quite fitting into a box and just being overall very… different (neurodivergent for the homies, lol) and if the execs had any trouble understanding them
unfortunately i think because i used the word “cast” she misunderstood my question and thought i was talking about the voice acting cast of the show, and said that disney didn’t have any issues hiring diverse people and she always wanted to make sure a character’s diverse traits matched the actor, mentioning avi roque and raine as an example
when she first heard sarah-nicole robles’ audition for luz she didn’t like it because she used a voice that was too high-pitched. thank fuck people in the studio suggested she give her another chance with a more neutral voice, and that’s show she landed on her to voice luz
actually, she said voice casting was the easiest part of her job
disney is not interested in producing any more owl house content
a girl asked about huntlow and she said that was something she couldn’t answer specifically because she didn’t want to give away any spoilers (?)
even though she doesn’t regret what she wrote, she would’ve liked to see how the story would’ve progressed if luz hadn’t been admitted into hexside. she thinks not much would’ve changed; she would still be friends with gus & willow, fall in love with amity, and, eventually, slowly prove to bump how capable she is
she really, REALLY wishes she had gotten to do another episode with young raine and eda. she LOVES those two, and mentioned how much she dreams about doing a series of them as teens
she went through a period of really neglecting her health and sleeping only about two hours a night due to the stress of working on the show and her busy schedule, which really drained her, and advised everyone who wanted to become a showrunner to learn to take care of themselves even in stressful times
i told her how much the show meant to so many people and that every sleepless night had been more than worth it, that everyone was grateful for everything she’d done and keeps on doing, that her efforts had paid the fuck off. also that i hoped she was doing better lately and taking care
she wants to take a good fucking break once the show is over
i also thanked her for making lilith aroace, as no one in the room had mentioned it, and said she was glad people were able to resonate with that
she pitched another show alongside the owl house, and will show the pitch later
they took some pictures with her and the people in the room before wrapping up
respectfully, she’s so fucking fine
i don’t know what else to say man, she just really manages to light up a room. her presence is something so special and those couple hours of just chatting with her alongside other people became easily one of the best moments of my whole life. she really is incredibly passionate about what she does and so eager to help aspiring creators, which is why we were all ultimately there for. i don’t think the past two years of my life would’ve been the same if it hadn’t been for her work impacting me the way it has. i feel like the luckiest person on earth :,)

Eda's Requiem: The Embodiment of Why TOH's Found Family Sucks
Here are the two plot lines for this episode, with no frills or judgements, and you try to figure out the problems with them: Plot A: Eda, while running from having an actual conversation with King and/or Luz, runs into an old flame who lets her in on a secret criminal group they're a part of that can use her skills. She proceeds to spend the entire episode away from Luz and King, besides small exchanges where she refuses to talk to them due to misunderstandings, until she almost sacrifices herself for her beliefs and the good of the Isles. Raine stops her because of a photo of King, Luz and Eda together showing she has kids. Then she runs off to finally watch the thing that Luz and King have been working on the entire episode. However, she's missed it entirely but she makes up for it by helping King with his goal anyways.
Plot B: King and Luz are preparing for a race together so as to get a chance to broadcast to the entire Isles a message about how King wants to find his family. They also keep talking about a topic that will potentially upset Eda, with heavy implications due to the dialogue that it is him wanting to leave, and keep getting cut off from actually talking to her due to Eda blowing them off because of overhearing parts of these conversations. We then don't get to see the race but find out they lose because King threw up while they were flying. King then makes an impassioned speech to his father about his interests, things he'd like to do as a parent and child and about the symbol on him. He then calls Eda cranky before then saying because she was the one to raise him, he is LEEEEeee-gally changing his name to King Clawthorne, officially making him adopted by Eda so long as she'll have him.
So besides the painful voice acting direction that is the writers admitting to just having straight up lied with their implications as to what King's problem was *eye twitch* Did you see it?
What about this episode is actually about their found family? The relationship between these characters? Especially Eda and King's? Because the two practically do not interact this episode until the very end. Eda spends the entire episode neglecting Luz and King due to her own fears while King's goal ISN'T about Eda. It's about finding his real parents. He even outlines what he thinks a parent/child dynamic should be, what he wants out of it and it's NOT anything we've seen him do with Eda.
In fact, you might expect me to compare this episode to Amphibia's Aquarium episode, which is effectively when the found family there is finalized but there's literally no comparison. TOH doesn't reflect on the relationship or memories that this family has with each other because there's almost nothing there. What, is King going to wax nostalgic about how Eda manipulates him into no win bets and mocks him for his desires and goals in Teenage Abomination? Or how about how Eda, despite living with him since he was an infant, doesn't even try to understand his struggles until body swapping with him? OH! How about when she threatened the eight year old with rent in the second episode? There's the first episode's statement about the two being all they have but there's actually not much else they have done together that ever has them growing genuinely closer.
Then there's simply the emotional focuses of the episode. The things as an audience we are actually told are the stakes of the episode are if Eda and Raine are going to get back together/succeed in their plans and if King is going to win so he can get a message out to his genetic parents. Their goals that they have to overcome don't actually have anything to do with each other or them being a family. Anything about that is just side angst that isn't as important. Even King's speech at the end FAR more heavily weighs on his desire to find his genetic parent than it does Eda. He describes with so much care about what he wants before saying the he's asking to be adopted is because Eda raised him and then stating ZERO other reasons for why he's doing this. That's not a reason to change your name, that's what your mom says to guilt trip when you try to not do what she says.
Found Family is NOT transactional. In fact, one of the big reasons Found Family is so treasured is because you choose it, not because it was forced upon you like, I dunno, some random stranger deciding to take you home from your birthplace because she assumes you've been abandoned. It's because you have such a bond with another person that you would rather them be your own family. It doesn't matter what part or the legalness of it, it never did for Anne, but... When you don't actually show that bond as part of your story, all you have left are labels you can use to tell the audience they have this bond.
And so of course King gets officially adopted because otherwise, why would you ever call Eda King's mom? Because it needs to do SOMETHING to actually sell these people as a found family so people can praise it for having that trope but it also doesn't want to put in the actual time or effort. So... I guess this is all we get alongside King calling Luz his sister.
That's just not enough, not for me at least.
======+++++======
What's rough with this blog is that I actually still like Eda's Requiem. It's not a bad episode as Eda and Raine's dynamic is good with some good stakes to the action which is a rarity for TOH. It's just that thematically it doesn't function which isn't anything new.

My Thoughts Lumity and Huntlow (Sorta a Hot take)
Okay, I know this isn't a new discussion within the community, but does anyone else dislike how Lumity and Huntlow are written within the show by regressing their characters' arcs or traits just to be solely dependent on their canonical partners? (The episode "For the Future" I'm looking at you.) It's very prominent with Amity & Willow's side of the relationship, then Luz & Hunter.
Seriously, name more than one episode in Season 2 that focuses & carries on Amity's development for most of the duration, whether on her family dynamics or friendship with Willow, that doesn't immediately get sidelined for whatever Luz is doing or conflict she has.
Inherently, it's not bad for Amity to stop to check on Luz to see that she is okay. The problem is after that. The show writers don't show her concluding most of the arcs she strived for, allowing her to grow on her terms & seeking the potential of her character because of the tethering of Lumity, which serve no purpose in the narrative sense besides cute fluff that has no substance just like the chemistry between Hunter and Willow. (Sorry, I had to dunk on this ship.)
However, my biggest annoyance with these two ships is how they never address or show any conflict between the canonical partners, specifically how often Luz lies to Amity, which leaves Amity to self-doubting herself for Luz, or how Willow doesn't know anything about Hunter's trauma experiences with Belos. As a result, this writing choice often makes the relationships feel disingenuous about how much they mean to each other if one side isn't acknowledged.
In comparison, the dynamics of the relationships between Lunter & Raeda work within the show narratively so well because the show doesn't sacrifice Luz/Hunter & Raine/Eda's character and addresses both characters' conflict on equal footing, allowing both members of the relationship to have a good understanding each other making the dynamic feel stronger emotionally when both decide to help each other to overcome a mental obstacle. You can't tell me episodes like Hollow Mind, Thanks to Them, Eda's Requiem, Follies at the Coven Day Parade & O Titan Where Art Thou didn't have any emotional investment from you because you know you lying.
Another reason I consider Lunter & Raeda better than Lumity or Huntlow, besides feeling naturally paced & written within the show, is that they are not solely reliant on each other but can depend on each other. However, not to the point that they are incapable of holding their centric episodes of self-growth or selflessness, which all four members have proven multiple times that they can be independent.

I have been thinking about this headcannon for awhile because it pertains to my OC Dawn specifically as a child of Apollo
I know somebody has said before of children of poseidon being sirens or having siren powers, but I think we'll make more sense if this was children of Apollo and the muses specifically.
The children of apollo are all skilled with music and instruments and a voice is just another instrument
It would be very similar to charmspeak with the aphrodite kids
And it's kind of cannon already
In the hidden oracle, Apollo/Lester sings a sad song at the ant creatures (Sorry I can't remember what they are actually called) to distract them in order to free Meg. When he finally gets to Meg, she is crying because of his song.
He then also sings a love song to the mother ant creature to get her to fly them out of there
This is something that I think his children would potentially be able to do. Probably not to the extent that he was able to because he's a god, but they would have some form of musical talent.
Other Children of apollo have musical instruments and such. I imagine it playing out like that one scene from the owl house, Eda's Requiem. I'll link it because it's stunning.
I also totally didn't come up with this just so that I could have my character, Dawn, burst into song while fighting /j
This is that owl house scene I was talking about, actually a lot of owl house stuff crosses over beautifully with percy jackson
https://youtu.be/siBB0vKoK2A?si=rHEMgoEv_RnVusfz
thanks for the ask @invadericee!
oooh, this is super interesting!
i really love this being an ability of apollo’s kids instead of poseidon’s. it makes more sense to me. there’s a lot to be explored here
this is good brain food. i shall process. thank you!!

Presenting the prompts for Stepparent Raine Whispers Week!
Tumblr media
The prompts are:
Day 1 - Fast Food (King)
Day 2 - Good Witch Azura (Luz)
Day 3 - Pranks (King)
Day 4 - Nightmares (Luz)
Day 5 - Playing Catch (King)
Day 6 - Resemblance (Luz)
Day 7 - Lullabies/Free Space (Both)
Starting on the anniversary of Raine's official debut in the show, Eda's Requiem on July 24th, we celebrate our favorite bard being a parental figure to our favorite human witch and Titan!
I put the kid each prompt is for in parentheses so everyone knows which topic belongs to which kid. When I say both, I mean both Luz and King should be interacting with Raine in that prompt.
Per usual event rules:
Any kind of media is welcome! This includes fanfic, fanart, edits, playlists, moodboards, and etc.
It is not required to do all prompts. Do what you can at your own pace; you can even submit stuff after the week is past. We'll still be happy to have your piece as part of the event.
Shipping Raine with the kids will NOT be tolerated!
Other characters and ships are welcome, but the focus of this week should be on Raine bonding with their new stepkids! We barely got any canon interactions between them, and the point of this is to create those interactions we missed.
Tag your contributions with 'stepparent raine whispers week' or 'stepparent raine whispers week 2023', and be sure to tag me too so I can reblog your stuff!
The most important rule is to have fun!
See you on July 24th for Stepparent Raine Whispers Week 2023!

Analyzing Belos’ Eyes On The Owl Lady Suspects
Raine Whispers
Tumblr media
Evidence for Raine being a traitor:
A lot of shots of them looking guilty this episode. Like. A lot
Canonically a good liar, has fooled Eda before
Was the one to suggest that Eda get a sigil
Could be being blackmailed by Terra or Belos
Could be being brainwashed after all
Evidence against Raine being a traitor:
No <3 I simply refuse to believe it
The guilty looks are easily explained as them feeling bad for endangering Eda’s safety
They know the draining spell is going to kill everyone, I doubt they’d be stupid enough to take any offers of keeping Eda safe or whatever from Terra or Belos
Judging by their actions in both this episode and Eda’s Requiem, they put the success of the rebellion above everything, even (reluctantly) Eda’s safety
We as a fandom have been here before. Many fans were suspicious of Raine before Eda’s Requiem aired — it was unfounded then and I bet it’s unfounded now
That might be too many twists for one character’s loyalties. Put some back
Darius
Tumblr media
Evidence for Darius being a traitor:
Was the one featured in the ep where the possibly-foreshadowing “coven heads betray each other all the time” line was said
Knew and clearly admired Hunter’s predecessor — perhaps he thought that predecessor was loyal to the emperor and so…?
Evidence against Darius being a traitor:
I pulled that possible motivation directly out of my ass
Seems more likely that the previous Golden Guard is part of the reason he’s rebelling
We just had the twist of him being a rebel, it would be weird for the next twist to be “LMAO jk no he’s not”
Seems to genuinely care for Hunter and Raine
Eberwolf
Tumblr media
Evidence for Eberwolf being a traitor:
Honestly if there IS a spy I think Eber’s the most likely candidate
We know very little about Eberwolf in general — their motivations are a mystery
While a semi-big deal was made out of Darius being a rebel, Eber has just kinda been in the background. It feels suspicious
Coven Head, so the “coven heads betray each other all the time” would work as foreshadowing
Conspicuously absent from this group shot at the end of OTWAT. Could be an animation mistake, but could also Not be
Tumblr media
Evidence against Eberwolf being a traitor:
maybe switched places with Eda at the end of COTH, bc of the growling?? Not rlly sure what that would imply though
Amber, Derwin, or Katya
Tumblr media
Evidence for one of them being a traitor:
Like with Eber, we know very little about them and their motives
Evidence against one of them being a traitor:
For Katya, when we first met her she was in the conformitorium and seemed pretty passionate about her divergence
Wouldn’t make for a very dramatic reveal
Steve
Tumblr media
Evidence for Steve being a traitor:
Showed up conveniently just as the CATTs were about to put their plan into motion
I could totally see Belos sending one of his friendlier scouts to go infiltrate them
Well-liked enough to emotionally fuck with the audience if true
Evidence against Steve being a traitor:
It would be weird from a writing standpoint to have the person who helped King and King helped in return, a huge turning point in King’s character in general, have been lying the whole time
Look at that face. Does that look like the face of a liar to you?
Adrian Graye (or another illusion witch)
Tumblr media
Evidence for:
We’ve seen a lot of people being illusioned into other people these last few episodes — could be foreshadowing
As @shoulderpats pointed out, Steve’s freckles/moles/acne scars have moved since last episode. Could be an error, but could also Not be an error
Stopping the rebellion would potentially be a good way for Adrian to get some dignity back after getting his ass kicked by a 12 year old who wasn’t even really trying
Evidence against:
Can’t really think of any, feel free to add on if you can
Terra Snapdragon
Tumblr media
Evidence for:
Only speculation, but she could have picked something up from Raine and/or be spying on them
Much as I want to believe they’ve got her 100% fooled, it might not be that easy
Evidence against:
Again, can’t really think of anything
Lilith Clawthorne
Tumblr media
Evidence for Lilith being a traitor:
Could be being manipulated by the emperor again, trying to save Eda and maybe Hooty and her niece and nephew too
Evidence against Lilith being a traitor:
After all the character growth she’s had, it seems unlikely that she’d backslide that hard
Shown in Elsewhere And Elsewhen to be able to recognize signs of manipulation now
Same twist villain twice??
I really don’t think it’s Lilith but I wanted to cover all my bases
Hunter
Tumblr media
Evidence for Hunter being a traitor:
Also could be being manipulated, or the emperor could be able to see what he sees or something since he created him
Evidence against Hunter being a traitor:
After Hollow Mind I really doubt he’s gonna believe Belos again
Belos seemed genuinely surprised when Hunter got the key, so I don’t think he can see through his eyes or anything
I hit the image limit so I’ll reblog with the remaining suspects

Thoughts on “Watching and Dreaming” Part 2
I cannot stress how much I value Eda and Raine’s relationship ❤️
Raine whistling Eda’s Requiem while they were trapped was so sweet🥹
I’m happy that Raine was able to join in on the final battle. It really does show that Raine is officially apart of the Clawthorne unit😊
“NOW EAT THIS SUCKA!” 📢
Tumblr media
The callback to Azura’s quote in the first episode really did it for me. I teared up🥹
“Don’t you want to make peace, Luz?”
Oh please, what a loser lmao 🙄
I love how Luz just stands there in silence and let’s nature take it’s course. She realizes that this is not her fight anymore
Tumblr media
Sweet justice is served 🙌🏾👏🏾 😊😭
“Well, we ain’t!”
Tumblr media
“That was extremely satisfying.”
You could say that again lol
And it’s finally over 😌
Tumblr media
The Hunter, Darius and Eberwolf moment ❤️
I’m glad the other coven heads were put in their place lol. Was kind of worried about that before the finale.
Lol at the one coven head trying to touch the throne anyway tho
This is bliss 😌🥰
Tumblr media
I was waiting for this moment for so long OMG! 😭🤗😩
Tumblr media
I’m glad the Collector found their way 🥹
I’m going to miss Luz doing magic through drawing glyphs. It made her unique in the Boiling Isles. At least she has Stringbean now to help her do magic though
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the epilogue at the end. They could have just ended the series with Luz overlooking the Boiling Isles, but they gave us more😭
Luz enrolling in a magic university 👏🏾
Look! All the adventures we did and didn’t get to see
I’m really curious about the Hooty one with Luz and Amity lmao
Tumblr media
“Luz, you saw them last week.” 😐
Loved that she maintained the balance of her life on Earth and the Boiling Isles
Things I loved in the montage ❤️:
The Nocedas buying the abandoned sack
Hunter making Palsimen
This Moment 😊
Tumblr media
Flapjack’s gravestone🥹
Lilith’s haircut
Amity’s entire new character design
Success in eliminating coven branding
Gus’ hairstyle 👏🏾
THIS MOMENT!!!
From former criminal of the Isles to headmaster of an educational institution. You love to see it😄
The chaos that Luz, King and Eda will cause now lol
Tumblr media
Also, Vee’s family was saved 🙌🏾
King’s necklace too❤️🥹
Luz spending her past four birthdays rebuilding the Isles demonstrates so much about her character. She never slowed down in the past four years.
The attempt at the Quinceanera was sweet?
Gotta appreciate the effort at least😅
King doing glyph magic opens up a new range of possibilities
Potentially for a spin-off?!!
The four year time skip is such a breath of fresh air😤
The world building for this show is so good!
My favorite shot in the episode 🥹
Tumblr media
I love how the series ends with Luz thanking Eda and King for being there for her when things were confusing in her life. She found them at a time where she needed the most support and I love that for her. Not a lot of shows come full circle like this.
Love the collective “BYYYEEE!!!” at the end 😄🥹
It has been a pleasure doing these “Thoughts” on episodes over the past few years, I hope to one day I get a chance to do these again for The Owl House 😊🤗 BYYYYEEEE!!!!👋🏾👋🏾

Favorite The Owl House episode?
tbh, haven't rewatched the show in a long long time so might need to rewatch to be sure. for a while, it was eda's requiem. it means a lot to me and genuinely made me realize shit about myself. as dumb as it sounds it's what made me realize "...oh. if I died, that'd...probably fuck up the people around me." so it has a massively special place in my heart. and also the depth it gives eda! made me reevaluate shit about how I view parents and also just. god. the importance of found family and how important it is to acknowledge that it's just as important as blood family. found family is so often treated as secondary and seeing it portrayed as just as important is so fucking good and god! middle aged characters with depth! middle aged WOMEN with depth! some of the most accurate depression rep I've seen. she feels so real and raw and god, it's really nice to see a middle aged character who gave up learning to get back up again and stop feeling like they missed the best of their life and wasted it, and aaorudhdjd. god. I love eda. the music is beautiful and the duet is haunting, raeda fascinates me, and bard magic will ALWAYS be my favorite magic in toh.
I feel like the grey decaying thing works excellently as a metaphor for depression. it's what made me start going "is this a metaphor for mental illness?" because it FEELS like it. the voice acting is top tier and its so fucking good. it's just,,, man. a middle aged woman having an episode all to herself?? baby mes mind would've been BLOWN. her hatred of the curse wouldn't have hit nearly as hard without this episode, I think. the loneliness and feeling like it makes her Less is shown so well in this episode. it's just,,, man. as someone who's struggled with depression all my life, it resonates. she doesn't even CONSIDER king would still love her. raine saved her fucking life there and I'm still fucked up about it. it handles depression very well and its just. Man. that duet is one of the most memorable scenes in the show. darius abomination form is badass, raine's powers are so cool, the bats have my ENTIRE heart, the fucking MUSIC. brads music bangs. I love his soundtracks and this episode is just. always iconic to me.
that being said, I'm not entirely sure if it's my favorite episode right now? my brain flip flops on these things. right now I think it might be eclipse lake because it's just. SUCH a good episode. it's so gorgeous. the fight choreography, the animation, the lore, but most of all the EMOTION.
it has such excellent abuse rep. showing not only the complicated emotional reality of living with your abuser, of being dependent on your abuser, but also the fact that having an abusive relationship influences how you view ALL relationships. I love that amitys trauma isn't sidelined! what originally comes off as amity being a little TOO excited about having a girlfriend and also dana flipping off disney is shown to be amity being fucking terrified of losing this. she's so desperate to prove herself and since they're foils we gain knowledge as to what odalia and amitys relationship might've been like through hunter and gain insight into how hunter might view other relationships going forward through amity and it's LOVELY.
it also drives me insane that people use this episode as proof amity would hate hunter when. nah. nah, absolutely not. also I love how it shows how fucking KIND amity actually is. this boy's threatened and backstabbed her multiple times and is showing he's willing to do ANYTHING to win, and she still feels so much fucking sympathy for him. because she gets it. he's like her. she would've done this in his shoes. she offers him kindness and shows no sign of holding a grudge??? NONE???? this woman is fucking forgiving. she would have every right to hate his guts and she doesn't. idk what y'all mean when you say she's a jerk shes fucking KIND.
also hunters breakdown is painful to watch. I don't know what I can say about it that hasn't already been said. it's so raw and resonant, it feels like watching a real kid, it has such a realistic depiction of abused kids, what else can I say?
I also love the addressing of the cycle of abuse. hunter isn't a pure innocent baby here. he's manipulative and mean and cutthroat. hes a dick! I love him having anger issues because that's how abused kids often are! and I love amity backsliding! I love amity going tunnel vision! I love how realistic and painful the whole episode is!
they're just kids, man. you can tell the crew wanted this to be realistic and they succeeded.
I don't know which I like more. they're both just so GOOD.
(ask me things!)
