The Hill I Will Die On (Elvis Tribute Post)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole scene was the best acting Elvis ever did. Toby Kwimper was the best character Elvis had to portray. All the other characters were at least somewhat based in his own personality or celebrity image.
Toby from Follow That Dream might as well be a completely different person. You don't see Elvis playing Toby here. You actually see a 20 something year old man named Toby Kwimper trying to explain his answer like it's the most obvious thing in the world. Brilliant.
I know King Creole might've been his best film as a whole, but Follow That Dream was his best character acting. The amount of effort that goes into playing a character that's not exactly sharpest tool in the shed is impressive because you gotta convey that while also being likable. Elvis' portrayal of Toby does that. You know he's trying his best even if he doesn't get things right, but you just want him to succeed.
The most important thing to having a comedic character is to still make us care. Too many comedies these days have main characters I just don't care about because they just exist to make jokes. Toby is more than a joke machine, he's an actual human you care about.
But let me know what you think. What was your favorite Toby scene or favorite Elvis character?

The Freddie Mercury Connection
How unlikely that one of the most revered rockstars of all time was born in Zanzibar (an island off the eastern coast of Africa) to Indian immigrants, right? But, after all, how likely was it that Elvis Presley, with his smoldering looks, swiveling hips, and revolutionary musical talent, came out of a dirt-poor family of sharecroppers from Tupelo, Mississippi? I find the parallels between Elvis and Freddie Mercury fascinating, and there are many in my head. Ready Freddie?
Tumblr media
Considered two of the best and most recognizable voices in popular music, Elvis and Freddie both had an incredible, almost unparalleled, stage presence, they came from an unlikely milieu unrelated to entertainment, and died in a heartbreaking way in their 40s. I find the way they are remembered and cherished very similar.
But let's start from the beginning! When he was at boarding school in Panchgani, near Bombay, in the late '50s, Freddie Mercury, then known as Farrokh Bulsara, formed his own band, with his schoolmates Bruce, Farang, Derrick, and Victory. They were called "The Hectics". Surprisingly, Freddie didn't sing, Bruce did. Freddie was too shy, so he played piano in the background. "We all wanted to be Elvis," Bruce remembers. The girls from another school screamed, "just like they'd heard girls the world over were beginning to do when faced with current idols". They played lots of Elvis, who was one of the rock 'n roll idols back then, but also Fats Domino and Little Richard, two of Freddie's favorite artists.
Tumblr media
That shyness that relegated him to the background in school seems to have gone by the time we meet him again in England in the late '60s, singing with his blues band Ibex. He opened his shows with "Jailhouse Rock", a song he also performed with Queen many times. It allowed him to "indulge in gleeful histrionics, but for some time the rest of the group were unsure about Freddie's stage antics." How wrong they were! See for yourself in this live version from 1982.
youtube
In 1979, two years after Elvis' sudden death, Freddie wrote a tribute song to his idol, in the form of a rockabilly pastiche. It's one of Queen's most famous songs to this day: "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". He notoriously wrote it in 10 minutes while lounging in the bathroom. “I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts," he said to Melody Maker, "and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework,” he continued. “I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think.”
Everything, from the production to the lyrics is a call back to early rock 'n roll music. His voice on that track sounds so much like Elvis' that some people think it's an Elvis song. He said about it: “My voice does sound a bit like Elvis Presley’s on ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’. That wasn’t something I was trying to do, naturally, it was pure coincidence. It’s all sung rather low, so then you soon come close to Elvis, especially with such a 50s-type song". Freddie even kicks it up a notch in the video by wearing a black leather suit (albeit with kneepads!) and styling his hair like Elvis did.
youtube
Aptly for a song with a rockabilly feel, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was Queen's first number-one hit in the States. I don't know if it was because she had heard that song, but Lisa Marie Presley, then only a child, said in an interview that she loved Queen's theatrics and that the first concert she attended was Queen in LA in the late '70s. She gave one of her father's scarves to Freddie. Even though he never met Elvis, Freddie cherished the scarf for the rest of his (short) life.
You can find my other Elvis connection posts at this link. I've written about Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Quentin Tarantino, among others.

Confession & Connection Time
I know many of us are shaken to the core about the sudden death of Lisa Marie.
I read the tribute from her friend who was also a grief counselor and in it, he wrote about Lisa dedicating herself to supporting other grieving parents, including their plans to do a podcast. It inspired me to go out of my comfort zone in her honor and in honor of that commitment.
I am tremendously upset by Lisa’s death and cannot stop thinking of Priscilla and bursting into tears. Because I know what it is to lose a daughter. My only child was killed in a wreck two decades ago and I have never been the same. I almost didn’t survive it and was fully incapacitated for many, many years. In the past few years I have been coming into a promising new phase of grief and life, one that is difficult to navigate but one for which I am grateful. But any time I hear of a parent losing a child — whether it’s someone I know personally or not — it affects me tremendously. School shootings and celebrity deaths can be just as upsetting for me as for someone I know, albeit shorter lived since someone I do not know is not connected to me daily. But the universality is still there. Only other parents whose children have died know the suffering when their child is gone before them, regardless of circumstances and regardless of age.
Sadly, ironically, this is why I blurred out the letter I wrote for Elvis’s birthday when I posted it. After thanking him for his life and talent, I asked Elvis to hug my little girl for me. I think we all know he of course would do that. It’s making me cry again to write this now, imagining him scooping up my precious sweetheart (she was only 8) in his fatherly arms. I also asked him to find my mom and to tell them both I feel them with me always. As sensitive and kind as everyone is in our fandom, it felt too personal and vulnerable to share these details among a cyber community.
But here we are now. Lisa is dead. Priscilla’s heart is shattered. The family is devastated. The Elvis film family is floored. And the world is in shock. And I imagine that Austin is grieving in a strange and unique way, having come to love her as a “daughter” through his character work but also by feeling a maternal bond from her as well after they met. I acknowledge my thoughts about Austin are speculation on my part and I do not want to suggest I actually know what he is feeling. I don’t want to disrespect him with a formal assumption. Only to share that these thoughts and feelings have bubbled up for me by way of concern for his tender soul, whether or not they are accurate, and I’m sad for him, too.
Personally I must and do believe Lisa is in her father’s loving and long-awaited embrace and that she is also reunited with her beloved son. I know that I long for the day I will be with my daughter again on the same energetic plane — even though I connect to her constantly across the ethers. It was, in fact, that intense pull to be with her that made my life so precarious for so long after her death. And something I deeply understood about Lisa when she referred to how hard it was for her without Benjamin, including her intense feelings of guilt.
I decided to post this in case there are any others in the fandom who have survived a child and who need the extra support & understanding that a fellow bereaved parent shares. Also, after seeing Mel make a post about caring for ourselves and each other, and the many other anguished tributes that are showing up in my blog. Amongst the many posts I have spotted a few comments, tags, and reblogs that have the resonance of someone who knows a parent’s grief. So just in case someone else here is facing that, too, and in honor of Lisa, I decided to bare my soul.
Please feel free to comment, reblog, DM, or send me an ask. In between my own self care (which includes pacing myself on social media), I am also in ongoing recovery from a recent hospitalization, which is a factor in the amount of time I’m on tumblr right now. Otherwise I am available and at your service in compassion and solidarity.
I want to acknowledge a few of my fandom anchors @karamelcoveredolicity @ash-omalley @troubleinapinksuit @burninlovebutler @succsessions and everyone else who is posting, caring, sharing, and hurting. To any other bereaved parents, we know there are no words that adequately convey our experience. We only have the recognition and companionship of one another as fellow travelers on a journey we never, ever imagined we would be forced to take.
Love,
MJ

Black and White— WIP— venom x Eddie fic!
this is a fluffy lil tribute to my venom post about the v and e running away and eloping. hopefully more to come. enjoy!
Eddie was never one for receiving overly sentimental displays. So this plan had been perfect for him. For them.
The neon lights of Reno's own Little White Chapel drowned out the dark of the night, along with all the other lights of the strip. a CBD shop, a videostore, and some branded novelty storefront he'd barely seen out of the corner of their eyes. Seedy and campy as anything that the two lovers touched.
Venom had suggested Vegas, but Eddie was sure as hell not able to swing that on freelance wages, not to mention he hated Vegas. He could go on about his quiet disdain for the disposable everything of sin city, but with Venom wrapped around his fingers, he could only really think about the snap decision they'd made.
Let's get hitched.
It wasn't even clear which of them had pitched the idea. Suppose it'd come from somewhere deep within their bond.
They were passing through on business. Going from state to state, handing out justice as a lethal protector should.
But the mounting time together and the lights and the nightlife and the utter romance of running away through the states hadn't been lost on either of them. Especially in the months after Carnage.
That night, in the church.
They'd bonded, It was beautiful, sure, but tied inextricably to some great violent mess. Their only witnesses being Anne, Dan, and a pre-posthumous Cletus Kasady. It was perfectly them, but not quite what Eddie wanted to call their wedding day. Hell, they hadn't even fucked that night.
Venom smirked at the thought, adjusting Eddie's tie as they looked back to the chapel.
Here they were, signing into the little white guest book. Intimidating the shit out of the clerk as Venom stood fully on display beside Eddie. 7'6" and using their own mass to form a sleek black suit.
It was perfect in its own way.
"You got your vows ready?" Eddie teased, and the symbiote nodded, showing off a bar napkin covered in chicken scratch handwriting. That was his Venom. His partner. the two sat anxiously in a pew, waiting for their turn as an impulsive couple went ahead of them. Two college kids giggling and holding hands and talking about dropping the news on their friends.
It occurred to Eddie briefly that he might be a bit old for something like this, but the thought again dissipated when looking back at Venom. A perfect entity, cocking their head at the thought of an David Bowie impersonator officiating a wedding.
"Thought he was dead?" The symbiote asked, blunt as ever.
"He is. this is just a priest dressed as him."
"Why?"
"Cause we couldn't afford Elvis"
"Not funny."
Eddie laughed a bit at that.
"I dunno man, it's the novelty! Most people have their wedding officiated by some boring religious official. Even at places like this. Some people just want something spontaneous."
"Like us." Venom said, the word us uttered in a smile.
"Like us." Eddie repeats affectionately.

August 16
I am listening to Aloha From Hawaii as I sit down to write this tribute, my favorite of Elvis's live performances. I have read some other tributes and all of them have been so beautiful. This made me pretty emotional to write not gonna lie.
This date definitely carries more weight with me this year for so many reasons. As many already know, I was an Elvis fan before the movie last year but I wasn't as involved in the fandom as I am now. Back in 2002 when "Lilo and Stitch" came out, I took my then 7 year old niece to see it and she did enjoy it, but it was me the adult in her 20s who walked out obsessed with it. Since then, I've honestly felt like it was just me and my homegirl Lilo who appreciated Elvis and since she's a drawing I can't have a conversation with her. Elvis kind of fell to the wayside for me, in the background but still appreciated.
I admit I was skeptical about the movie last year when I first heard about it. I was like "Who the hell is this Austin dude who's playing Elvis? And Baz is directing it? Interesting. Ok, well I guess I'll give it a watch and see." And I'm so glad I did because they blew me away and re-sparked my interest in Elvis. I love how the movie introduced so many new people to Elvis and now there's all these new fans to talk to. I've made all kinds of new friends in this fandom. I hadn't really been using my Tumblr much but I went on it last year to see if I could find other fans to talk to and it turned out to be the best thing because I was invited to join the best Discord channel where I have met some truly wonderful Elvis fans of all ages from around the world. One of the things I love about the Elvis fandom is how supportive and inclusive it is. There's so much toxicity in so many fandoms these days but it seems to be an extremely rare thing in this fandom and that is so refreshing.
Elvis also helped me break through a long drought of writer's block. Prior to the movie last year, I hadn't been doing much writing, just some short one shots for my other fandoms and I was struggling, thinking I'd never write something long or substantial. I had little faith I could write a long story with an intricate plot. After the movie rekindled my interest in him he busted right through that block and I ran with the idea that popped into my head. It started as a one shot and quickly grew into a novel length story. I just posted chapter 35 the other day and it's still ongoing. I admit I was nervous about posting it at first, I often suffer from self doubt and imposter syndrome and I worry my writing is not good enough to share. But I'm so glad I shared it. I had no idea it was going to be as loved as it is now. I have so many devoted readers who have left me kudos and given me amazing feedback for which I am so grateful. And new readers continue to discover it all the time which brings me even more joy.
Little by little I am starting to get over my insecurities and self doubts about my writing. I am getting much better at battling imposter syndrome and letting my creativity flow. It feels SO good to be writing again, when you've gone through a long bout of creative block to finally be back at your craft is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. So thank you Elvis, thank you for helping me.
In December of this year, I will be visiting Memphis and Graceland for the very first time. I'm a runner who loves to look for destination races so I can plan a trip around a race so I am doing the Memphis St Jude half marathon on Dec 2 and I am going to cosplay as Aloha Elvis. I have an American Eagle jumpsuit onesie to wear for the race. I also plan on ordering a multi pack of leis which I will wear and hand to the volunteers at the aid stations when they hand me Gatorade and I will thank them for aiding my gator. It will be overwhelmingly emotional for me to run on the same streets Elvis once walked. Me and my significant other are staying the week after the race to do Graceland and other tourist things in Memphis. I am so excited.
I hope that wherever Elvis is in the afterlife that he knows how loved he still is and how he's still positively affecting people all these decades later after he passed.
This ended up being a pretty long piece and if you read the whole thing, thank you. I leave you with some pics of my favorite Elvis, Aloha E: my man of many leis. ❤🌺

After reading this post from @recentadultburnout I went and watched Dang Bireley's and Young Gangsters.
So I thought I would make a post about Noey's obsession with 50's style
In the very beginning we see Noey playing a record player like in the movie. I couldn't get the right angles but at some shots Noey's room is quite like Dang's room (I could be wrong)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a DVD of the movie also the poster of the movie hangs beside the mirror. A nice tribute to the movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From following Dang's hairstyle to having a gang. Noey seems a lot like Dang on the surface.
But how did this come about!
Tumblr media
This is Dang played by Tik Jesdaporn Pholdee a teenage gangster in the 50's. He didn't grow up with the best of circumstances. In the movie he followed the style of his idols like James dean, Elvis Presley. Though he did not meet a good ending, this movie was a major hit when it came out in the late 90's
Tumblr media
Which leads me here to these photos. You can see Noey's father is wearing everything Dang wore in the movie. Including the little locket around his neck. You can even see little Noey dressed like his dad. So originally it was always Noey's father who was the fan and Noey followed his father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fast forward to the present, the conversation between Noey and Tim makes it pretty obvious that Noey's father passed away. We don't know how he died and I don't think we will. And we don't need to.
If Noey's father was still alive Noey would probably have grown out of that style. But now this is Noey's way of remembering his dad. It's a nice nod to how parents have a profound effect on children's lives even when they are gone.

Glen Lockett, the in-house producer and engineer for legendary punk label SST Records who was better known as Spot, has died, former SST co-owner Joe Carducci announced. Spot had been on oxygen after his fibrosis impaired his lung function in late 2021, and, three months ago, he was placed in a hospital following a stroke, Carducci revealed in a Facebook post. Lockett died earlier today (March 4) at a healthcare facility in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He was 72.
As the longtime in-house producer for SST Records, Spot helmed the boards for essentially the crux of ’80s American punk rock. He produced more than 100 records, many of which are bonafide classics in the punk and hardcore world and have gone on to influence artists outside of the genre. Highlights from his body of work range from numerous Black Flag staples like Damaged, My War, and Jealous Again to Minutemen’s The Punch Line, What Makes a Man Start Fires?, and Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat. Spot also produced Descendents’ Milo Goes to College, Hüsker Dü’s Zen Arcade, Misfits’ Earth A.D. / Wolfs Blood, and Saint Vitus’ self-titled debut, along with additional records for those bands and others.
Born Glen Lockett in Los Angeles in 1951, Spot was raised by his Native American mother and African American father, the latter of whom was a Tuskegee Airman who flew British Spitfires. He grew up listening to post-bebop jazz, surf rock, Motown, and whatever music he could find on the AM radio. After learning to play guitar at age 12, Spot tried his hand at clarinet and even auditioned for Captain Beefheart. It wasn’t until years later, when he offered to help with a recording studio build, that he learned about the ins and outs of studio recording.
Before he became an integral part of the SST sound, Spot was a musician, not a producer. While waiting tables at a vegan restaurant, he met Greg Ginn, the future co-founder of Black Flag and SST Records, and the two started jamming together in his band. After witnessing a Black Flag show gone awry, Spot decided he wanted to work the board on their next record, a decision that would result in a lot of “head butting” and, eventually, 1980’s Jealous Again. The rest was history.
“[SPOT] spelled his name in all caps with a dot in the middle of the O,” Carducci wrote on Facebook. “He started in Hermosa Beach playing and recording jazz and he took the primacy of live jazz playing into recording bands against prevailing attempts to soften or industrialize a back-to-basics arts movement in sound. When approaching the mixing board SPOT would assume an Elvis-like stance and then gesturing toward all the knobs he would say in a Louis Armstrong-like voice, ‘This is going to be gelatinous!’”
In addition to his work as a producer and engineer, Spot was also a published photographer and freelance writer. He wrote record reviews for the Los Angeles weekly newspaper Easy Reader. During shows, Spot would carry his camera around to document punk bands, fans, and the burgeoning counterculture scene, and he began photographing Los Angeles skateboarding circles as well. In 2014, he released Sounds of Two Eyes Opening, a collection of his photography work from that era.
“First and foremost, I’m a musician and everything else I’ve ever done has been based on that,” Spot told Vice in 2014. “It’s really the basis of all language and if you’re serious about the experience of music, you learn to keep both sides of your brain open and rely upon instinct rather than premeditation. Y’know, using improvisation and gut feelings as frameworks for rhythm and composition. In photography, the viewfinder should not be a limitation—it’s merely one part of a larger vision.”
Several artists have shared tributes in Spot’s honor after learning of his death. “good people, we just lost my old buddy spotski, a terrible blow,” tweeted Mike Watt. “he recorded the minutemen’s first stuff, I go way back w/this man. brother matt took this shot six years ago when spotski came to visit our pedro town... man, this is a terrible blow. I love you spotski forever.”
“SPOT always encouraged free expression and experimentation, even as those recordings were made as expeditiously as possible,” Hüsker Dü’s Bob Mould wrote on Twitter. Mould added that the producer “was a wonderful soul who loved making music, documenting the scene, and unconditionally supporting all the projects that bear his name.”

Fic authors self-rec! ✨ When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers
Battie, my darling! Thank you for sending this to me. Since I have a large collection, I figured I would take some time to think about which fics are truly my favorite.
No Longer The Housewife: Honestly, I know some people don't care much about infidelity (including myself), but this fic was definitely a ride for me because I would think about how Elvis would rescue our little damsel in distress and get her out of her marriage. This was also written as a little tribute to Pink Scarf by @missmaywemeetagain because there's nothing better than a little tribute to one of my favorite fics in the Elvis fandom.
Sweet Inspiration: This one is hands down one of my favorites because I'm an avid supporter of having women of color representation. I'm also a huge fan of the Sweets so this was a no-brainer in my eyes.
Hard Headed Woman: It's Danny Fisher for crying out loud!! Anybody who knows me and my Elvis journey would know that King Creole will always be my favorite Elvis film, so to write a little fic for him was in the cards as soon as the idea popped into my head. Also, I wanted to rewrite how Maxie was killed and the events that led up to it so that the reader would be seen as the hero at the end.
Pledging My Love: The beloved football!elvis fic. Honestly, I didn't think this would do as well as it has been because I've seen a couple of AU fics that didn't do well so I was a little weary when I posted it, but it has instantly became one of my favorite AUs that I've ever written. Especially because Elvis is willing to fight for his love with the black!reader during the time of segregation.
Menage A Trois: Who can go wrong with a little Elvis and Scotty lovin'? I would have to admit that I didn't ever think that a threesome with Elvis Presley and Scotty Moore would have me chugging water like a dehydrated horse, but here we are with a follow-up, a head cannon, and another follow-up that will be posted soon. You guys never fail to make me feel loved with my work and I really appreciate that you all love the pieces that end up being my favorite.

How To Save A Life
Clint immediately flops to the ground as soon as he's shot. He can feel bullet hit him right between the ribs. As much as he tries to get up and save Vance, he could feel the pain and the bleeding.
"Clint stay down you're hurt!"
He can hear his wife, Cathy yelling and a bunch of gunshots. All he can think about is Vance and how he shot him. He just wants to know his brother's ok.
"It's alright, Clint. I'm here."
He can feel Cathy move him into her arms. He's not aware of all the blood coming out of both entrance and exit wounds. He keeps trying to sit up despite Cathy's protests.
"Cathy where's Vance? Ah gotta talk ta 'em."
Despite the obvious gunshot wound it's like he can't even process that. Vance is all that matters. He only settles down when he sees Vance in front of him. He can see the blood dripping down Vance's arm but it wasn't as bad as he originally thought.
"Ah'm right here, Clint. Ah'm right here."
That's when the waterworks start. Even though Vance would most likely survive, Clint just feels nothing but guilt. He's practically hysterical.
"Vance! Vance, Ah didn't mean it! Ah didn't mean it!"
Vance puts a hand on Clint's wound trying to stop the bleeding. He understands the severity of the situation and that Clint needs to calm down. He knows that if he doesn't, Clint could die.
"Ah know ya didn't, Clint. Ya don't have ta tell me. Everythang's gonna be alright."
He wipes Clint's tears away and almost like magic Clint calms down. No one knows if it's because of the blood loss or because of pure exhaustion, but Clint seems to run out of steam. He smiles weakly at Vance.
"Everythang's gonna be alright."
He passes out right in Cathy's lap. She kisses his forehead while Vance looks around for a horse. He takes his shirt off in the process.
"We gotta plug the wound, Cathy. Does he got a wound on his back?"
He opens up Clint's shirt and uses his own to plug Clint's abdominal wound. Cathy finds the wound on his back and tears pieces of her own clothes to make bandages.
"Do you think he'll live, Vance?"
Vance sighs as he looks at the damage. He sees a teenaged farm boy on his horse passing by. He quickly rushes up to him.
"Hey mah brother's dyin! Can we take yer horse?"
He sees Clint's condition and dismounts.
"Yessir."
He helps Vance as they quickly get Clint's unconscious body up on the horse. Vance mounts it as Cathy manages to find their own horses.
"Here we can follow Vance with these."
They mount and follow Vance as he races back home.
Time Skip
Clint's now resting in his bed comfortably. Vance looks at the local doctor who helped them.
"Ah made sure ta give Clint some laudanum. From the looks a it he'll pull through if he makes it through the night. So long's he don't keep bleedin' he'll live."
Vance and the family sighs as the doctor leaves the room. Vance turns to the boy who gave up his horse.
"Ah oughta pay ya fer yer troubles, boy. Wha's yer name?"
The boy comes forward looking a little shaken.
"Mah name's Pacer. Thank ya sir."
Vance gives the boy some money.
"Now why was ya out there in that valley? Ah ain't ever seen anybody out there 'cept fer mah brothers."
Pacer looks very nervous.
"Um. Ah... Ah'm half-blooded Kiowa. Somethin deep down in mah gut tol me that Ah needed ta go out an help someone. Ah guess it was a good thang Ah did. Yer brother looked real pale when Ah saw 'em."
Vance pats his shoulder.
"Ya did a good thang then. If ya want ta, ya can stay the night here."
Pacer nods.
"Thank ya, sir. Ah hope yer brother makes it."
He leaves the room. Ma ushers the family out too so she can watch over her son.
"Mah poor baby."
She frets over him despite Clint being unconscious. She just wants to do everything she can to make sure Clint's comfortable while he sleeps.
Time Skip
It was a very restless night. No one knew whether or not Clint would live. All they could is use prayer circles and hope that God wouldn't take the baby of the family.
"Ma, Clint sounds like he's whimperin'."
She looks over to see Clint weakly fidgeting in his sleep. She takes the eye dropper of laudanum and sits down on the bed.
"Va-Vance!"
It's clear Clint's having a nightmare about shooting Vance. Ma tries to soothe him by rubbing his hair. She puts the eye dropper under his tongue.
"He jus needs ta be still 'gin."
Once the laudanum kicks in, Clint settles back down. Everyone tends to him throughout the night. They know it's all they can do just so they have peace. Even if Clint dies, they want to at least say they were there and made him feel comfortable.

"Ma?"
Ma sees Clint wearily open his eyes.
"Yeah baby?"
Clint is very out of it but still tries to speak.
"'M Ah dead? Don't feel no pain."
She smiles knowing that her baby's on cloud nine and isn't suffering. She rubs his hair and speaks gently.
"You ain't dead baby. Yer just on laudanum. Go back ta sleep now."
He tries to ask for Vance but she shushes him.
"Vance?"
“We’re all ok baby. It’s alright.”
Unable to fight the soothing feeling of his momma’s hand Clint’s eyes droop. Even though he’s now a grown man, Clint yawns like a little kid and falls asleep again. Ma kisses his forehead.
“Ya just sleep well baby.”
Clint softly snores as she leaves the room. Vance immediately stands up.
“Ma?”
She smiles gently at him.
“We best be thankin the Lord today, Vance. Mah baby’s still alive. He woke up.”
Vance is about to say something when she holds her hand up.
“Ah knew by his eyes he was still under the laudanum’s spell so Ah told ‘em ta go back ta sleep.”
Vance hugs her.
“Thank the Lord indeed, Ma. Ah thank him fer sendin that Pacer boy ta us. Because a them mah baby brother’s still alive.”
Everyone in the Reno household all sit around each other basking in the feeling of hope. They all hope that one day Clint would make a full recovery. At the same time they know to be relieved that the greatest danger had passed. Everyone was able to sleep peacefully for the first time in a long while. And Clint Reno was the most peaceful sleeper of all.
An: Framed as a what if story, I wondered how everyone would act immediately after Clint was shot. Today is Elvis’s birthday and for the past couple of days my discord besties were talking about what would happen if Elvis somehow did survive so I took inspiration from that. What better way to pay tribute than to write a story about hope in spite of tragedy. In a way that was who Clint was and that’s who Elvis was. If you want this to have a part two leave a comment below.
@xanatenshi Is this what the type of story you like regarding Clint and Pacer’s friendship? Please leave a comment.

Pop world mourns loss of Queen singer
FREDDIE MERCURY DIES OF AIDS
[Photo caption: Mercury pictured in September]
[Photo caption: SHOWMAN: Mercury’s unique stage style that made him a rock legend]
FANS and friends of pop star Freddie Mercury were today mourning his deah from Aids.
The 45-year-old singer of rock group Queen died peacefully during the night at his luxury London mansion, just hours after telling the world he had the disease.
Mercury's publicist Roxy Meade said: "His death was the result of broncho-pneumonia brought on by Aids."
The flamboyant star had lived like a recluse for the past two years, the illness leaving him frail and gaunt.
Tributes soon poured in for the singer who had helped make Queen one of the most successful acts in the world.
Ultimate
DJ and comedian Kenny Everett, a close friend of the singer, said: "He burnt the candle at both ends — and in the middle."
Rock critic Paul Gambaccini told TV-am: “What a star. They don’t make them like him anymore. He really gave life and showmanship to (…).
“He could command an audience, hold an audience in the palm of his hand. The climate was when he and the group absolutely stole Live Aid.”
Queen rose to force in the early 70s with a series of epic albums and singles culminating in the Number One smash hit Bohemian Rhapsody.
That was the song which began the video revolution in pop music. and the band stayed ahead of the pack with a run of spectacular and sometimes outrageous promotional films for their hits.
Mercury will be cremated in a private ceremony later this week.
He confirmed only on Saturday that he suffering from Aids. He issued a statement saying he wanted to end speculation about his health.
His statement to The […]
Mercury dies
[…] Press Association said: “Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have Aids.
“I felt it correct to keep this information private to date in order to protect the privacy of those around me.
“However, the time has now come for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease.”
Musician turned politician Screaming Lord Sutch, who played on the same bills as Queen in the early 1970s, said: “We have lost a most original and entertaining singer who inspired many, many people.”
He said Mercury deserved to ranked alongside Mick Jagger and Elvis Presley.
DEATH OF A SHOWMAN
Front door exit for a legend
THE BIG FINISH
By JAMES BELSEY
FREDDIE MERCURY died as he lived last night… in a worldwide blaze of publicity.
It was only on Saturday that the over-the-top rock singer confirmed what we’d all suspected for months — that he was suffering from Aids.
Rare sightings of Mercury this year had shown a shockingly different picture of the man.
The chin-forward, grinning arrogance and that amused, boyish look had vanished.
Fortune
In its place was a spectral shadow of the Mercury who had catapulted Queen to worldwide fame and kept them there for almost two decades.
His kamikaze lifestyle of sex and drugs and rock'n'roll had finally taken its toll.
Rock music’s long list of stars who thought they were immortal and could live by a different set of rules to the rest of us had found its latest casualty.
Freddie had enormous talent and a stage presence that magnetised an audience at the swivel of a hip or the raising of an arm in his characteristic pose of defiance.
He amassed a huge fortune, lived in a £5 million mansion home in Kensington, showered gifts on friends and lovers but remained, at heart, a lonely, increasingly bitter man.
He once said: and "You can have everything and still be the loneliest man and that is the bitter tupe of loneliness.
Success has brought me world idolisation and milions of pounds, but it has prevented me from having the one thing we all need… a loving, on-going relationship.
I can't win Love is a Russian roulette for me. I try to hold back when I’m attracted to someone, but I just can’t control love. It runs riot. All my one night stands are just me playing my part.”
Freddie made no secret of his bisexuality. “I’ve had a lot of lovers. I’ve tried relationships on either side — male and female. But all of them have gone wrong.”
His longest love affair was with blonde Mary Austin which ended after seven years. They remained close friends and she worked for him as part of his staff.
He even became godfather to her son Richard two years ago and spoke of a new sense of responsibility.
His lavish generosity and party-living was outrageous and legendary.
Banquet
After Wembley in 1987 he hired a body painter from Germany and guests were amazed to find the “uniformed" bell boys were, in fact, naked. And at a banquet in New Orleans he hid a nude model in a huge tray of raw liver, making it quiver.
For another he hired Concorde and flew friends over the Atlantic at vast expense.
In one of his final interviews a few weeks ago, the by now painfully thin Mercury said: “I don’t really think about when I’m dead or how they are going to remember me.
“When I'm dead, who cares? I don’t”.
How Mercury became the first video star
FREDDIE MERCURY was born Frederick Bulsara in Zanzibar on September 5, 1946, son of a government accountant. He was educated first at a boarding school in Bombay.
When the family returned to England he became a student at Ealing College of Art. For a decade Britain’s art schools had been the breeding ground for a string of the world’s top groups.
Freddie longed to be a star and in 1971 teamed up with like-minded students Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor.
Their aim: to shock and amuse their way to the top. A new, young generation of glam rockers were pressing hard on the heels of the now mature Sixties superstars.
What was the most outrageous title for a band? They chose Queen, with its clear double meaning and, just in case anyone had missed the point, dolled themselves up with make-up.
Within a year they were the talk of the college circuit. Within two years they’d been signed up by EMI and their debut album Queen was released in July 1973, followed up with two gigantically successful national tours in 1974 and 1975.
Queen came to the Colston Hall in Bristol on November 12, 1974 and November 17, 1975. After the second gig Freddie changed out of his stage gear, a slashed to-the-waist catsuit and threw a party for pals and the road crew.
They returned to Bristol Hippodrome on December 9, 1979, as one of the world’s top attractions.
Mercury knew how to sell himself and the band better than anyone. It’s no coincidence that Queen single-handedly changed the rock industry overnight.
They knew they had s huge hit with their dynamic single Bohemian Rhapsody. But how to sell it?
In came the innovative answer. At the cost of a few thousand pounds they recorded a video film to promote single. Within months the rock video had ceased to be a novelty — and became an essential part of the business.
Typically, it was Freddie who’d been the first rock video star.
Avon Aids campaign launched
FREDDIE Mercury's death comes as health experts in Avon launch a new campaign to highlight Aids.
A series of events began today as part of a week-long Avons Aids Week designed to bring the disease into the public eye.
Experts are keen to dispel any complacency — particulary among heterosexuals — about the HIV virus.
anyope had missed the point,
And Health Secretary and Bristol West MP William Waldegrave has backed the campaign.
Increase
*We have done slightly better than was initally predicted but there is a slow-ticking time bomb of the disease moving across to the heterosexual community,” he said.
“Unless we act now we can predict that in five or ten years’ time we will see a big increase again of the disease in the straight community.
“We have got to get everybody as sensitive to this issue as they gay community is now.”

Was Elvis friends with Old Hollywood stars? I know he briefly dated Natalie Wood. Cary Grant visited him at one of his Vegas shows and they looked friendly. He worked with Barbara Stanwyck in Roustabout. And I know he met Sophia Loren because of those great photos taken of them. I can’t think of other examples.
he was definitely friendly with people of that era, as with the musicians he befriended and respected, i think levels of closeness naturally varied, but he seemed to establish a good rapport with so many contemporaries. (cary grant had tears in his eyes after that vegas show, never over it!) here's a little list of photos with some other celebrities - along with those you mentioned, i'd certainly count frank sinatra, for example, and then of course nancy, though she was in that category of lifelong friend as well as costar. i'm always moved by this quote of frank's: "There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis' talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly. I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate and generous man."
it's good timing you'd ask this because the walking in memphis insta posted this lovely tribute to his friendship with sammy davis jr. yesterday (and sammy suggesting e sing in the ghetto, understanding why he'd connect with it):
instagram
they seemed to really love one another in such a gracious and appreciative way.
i'm sure there are many other lovely stories and friendships to be found too, but that was a sweet one right at my fingertips for you ❤
and somewhat adjacent, this is a cute post:

Meet Dana MacKay. He played 35-year-old Elvis in “This is Elvis”, 1981, directed by Solt and Leo. He also was the first Elvis Tribute Artist to ever exist. Famous for being his double. Him and his girlfriend - former Miss Nevada, were murdered on October 2, 1993, in his Las Vegas home, leaving two daughters. May you rest in peace, Dana. 🕊️ Reason of this sudden and tragic post: I was taking a break from my studies and I decided to write down some notes for my next IGTV, and seeing his pictures (uncanny Elvis resemblance) + reading the tragic story… I couldn’t keep it to myself. 😔 * #elvispresley #presley #theking #graceland #elvis #smile #love #idol #music #iconic #vintage #style #classy #vintagefashion #kingofmusic #rockandroll #sideburns #blessedsoul #rip #elvisthepelvis #memphis #tupelo #soldier #elvislegacy #epe https://www.instagram.com/p/ClyIvlhripn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Clipper Kings: A Tribute to Iconic Men’s Haircuts
In the ever-evolving realm of men's grooming, one aspect remains timeless and iconic the art of the haircut. Men's haircuts have transcended mere grooming rituals to become a statement of style, identity, and personality.
In this tribute to the Clipper Kings, we delve into the world of iconic men's haircuts that have shaped trends and defined eras. From classic crew cuts to contemporary fades, each style tells a unique story, reflecting the cultural and fashion shifts of its time.
Join us on a journey through the ages as we celebrate the enduring legacy of men's haircuts and the Clipper Kings who have left an indelible mark on the landscape of male grooming.
The Evolution of Men's Haircuts: A Historical Perspective
The history of men's haircuts is a fascinating narrative that mirrors the societal changes and fashion revolutions of different eras. From the clean-cut styles of the 1950s to the rebellious looks of the 1980s, each decade brought forth its own iconic haircuts.
The crew cut, popularized by military personnel in the post-war era, symbolized discipline and uniformity. Moving into the '60s, the mod cut and the mop-top made waves, reflecting the spirit of rebellion and experimentation.
As the counterculture movement gained momentum in the '70s, long and flowing locks became a symbol of anti-establishment sentiments. The '80s ushered in a flamboyant era with mullets and pompadours dominating the scene.
Fast forward to the present day, and the variety of men's haircuts available is a testament to the diverse influences that shape contemporary grooming trends.
Clipper Kings Through the Decades: Icons of Style
1. The Timeless Crew Cut: The crew cut, with its short sides and slightly longer top, has stood the test of time as a symbol of classic masculinity. Originating from military roots, this haircut became a staple in civilian life during the 1950s. Icons like James Dean and Elvis Presley popularized the crew cut, giving it an effortlessly cool and rebellious edge that resonated with the youth of the era.
2. The Rebel Mop-Top of the '60s: The '60s witnessed a rebellion against traditional norms, and nothing epitomized this spirit more than the mop-top haircut. The Beatles, with their shaggy and unkempt locks, became the poster boys for this anti-establishment style. The mop-top transcended the boundaries of music and fashion, making a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of the decade.
3. The Rocking Pompadours of the '80s: As the '80s dawned, men's haircuts took a turn towards the extravagant and bold. The pompadour, characterized by voluminous hair on top and shorter sides, became synonymous with rock and roll.
Iconic figures like Billy Idol and Elvis Costello sported gravity-defying pompadours, adding a rockstar flair to the mainstream fashion scene.
Contemporary Trends: The Modern Man's Dilemma
In the 21st century, men's haircuts have evolved into a nuanced and diverse arena, catering to a wide range of preferences and personalities.
The fade, characterized by a seamless transition from short to long hair, has become a go-to choice for those seeking a contemporary and polished look. The undercut, with its bold contrast between shaved sides and longer top, has also gained popularity among the fashion-forward crowd.
With the resurgence of classic styles like the side part and the return of facial hair trends like beards and moustaches, the modern man faces a plethora of choices when it comes to defining his signature look.
The era of Clipper Kings continues as barbers and stylists adapt traditional techniques to meet the demands of a discerning clientele, blending the best of old and new to create timeless yet modern masterpieces.
Conclusion: Celebrating Diversity in Men's Grooming
In the world of men's haircuts, diversity reigns supreme. From the disciplined crew cuts of yesteryear to the eclectic fades of today, each style reflects a unique facet of personal expression. The Clipper Kings, past and present, have played a pivotal role in shaping these iconic looks that stand the test of time.
As we celebrate the rich history and evolving trends of men's haircuts, let's embrace the diversity that defines modern grooming and pay homage to the timeless allure of the Clipper Kings. After all, a man's haircut is not just a style choice – it's a statement of individuality and a tribute to the ever-changing tapestry of fashion and culture.
