i realize this is something of an obvious sentiment to express in a certain light but the more times one rewatches the show the more it becomes glaringly clear that there are very few individuals who actually ever express a philosophical commitment to flint's war to overthrow england. charles does. billy does, although he has his own motivations as well. madi does. jack and anne don't though! not ever! blackbeard doesn't! max, certainly not. and silver? even before he decides to betray flint he never ever says anything even a little bit committed to any sort of animosity towards england. you hit that 3x10 battle and you realize just how few people are actually in it for the same reasons as flint. and you realize that just like flint, just like the crew, just like madi, john silver has also fooled YOU into believing that everyone is on the same page.

obsessed with the idea of the doctor and the master standing together in opposition to gallifrey post-end of time. less in it being the reality of the situation, and more in it being what the master perceives it to be in the immediate aftermath of being. well. told he was going to be disposed of. the combination of that rejection with the doctor choosing him, the way that sets them up with a common enemy. but where that enemy for the master becomes gallifrey in the abstract with the council as the face of it, the doctor never sees it that way, never thinks of it as the two of them against their own world. the doctor, crucially, kept count of the children. when he saves gallifrey, it isn’t about the master at all, not to anyone but the master themself. because how are they supposed to take the doctor choosing gallifrey over them as anything other than a betrayal.

I was just rereading the Paris pages, and like. I’m losing my mind at the way that these two characters view death. Andronicus’s absolute refusal to die, the way he STATES that he is not Done, his refusal to accept that death is beyond his control, is so indicative of his character and ruling style. You can see the shadow of what he was before whatever happened to him, his once-present charisma, the way he is used to being obeyed, and his absolute refusal to be anything less than In Charge in his declaration.

Directly contrasting that is Voltaire’s line “May I last until my work is done.” Voltaire accepts that he can’t control everything and he is willing to admit he isn’t all powerful. This admittance seems to be the main difference between Voltaire and Andronicus- Voltaire was successful as a ruler because he was willing to delegate and create secondary systems capable of running his city, while Andronicus was too obsessed with absolute control to the point that he destroyed himself.

i was looking up the comic pages of the titans tower attack where jason rips off his shirt to reveal the robin costime underneath, and i didnt manage to read it in full but something i found interesting is that tim says, "you're the red hood. you've been cleaning up gotham the easy way."

i dont have the full context for it, but i love that at least standing alone, there's an implication there that tim thinks killing criminals is effective, and he just doesnt find it challenging enough haha. like, there's a lot of other moral judgements you can make about jason's choice to murder, but instead of any of that, tim just decides to point out it's the easy way. 😂

(okay maybe tim said it in an effort to goad by saying jason's taking the easy way out, but i think it's funnier if tim said it 'cuz he doesnt actually disagree with killing and just doesnt do it cuz he follows the bat lol.)

There's blood on the floor, staining the wood and Techno's favorite carpet in deep crimson.

Slowly, Techno trails his eyes further until they land on the trembling body hidden away at the very corner of the room.

"What are you doing here, Dream?"

The other man doesn't say a word, either unwilling to answer or too far out of it to hear Techno's question.

Techno studied him from afar, noting the way Dream was crouched on the floor, his bandaged arms protectively covering his face and head. He kept trembling and if Techno stepped a little closer, he could hear Dream's laboured panting, almost as if the other man couldn't breathe.

"Dream," Techno says again to catch Dream's attention, "I'm going to come over there."

When Dream made no indication to stop him, Techno began to step closer, deliberately making his footsteps a bit louder so he doesn't end up surprising the other man.

Once he was finally in front of Dream, Techno crouches down to inspect him once again. This close he's able to see the multitudes of scars and open wounds that littered the other man's face and what was exposed of his skin. There's a nasty purpling bruise right below Dream's collarbone that extended behind his torn prison garb and Techno fought the sudden urge to grab his trident and kill whoever did this to him.

The voices are angry, rightfully so. They demand for blood to be spilled and as their chant grew, the more Techno felt his anger rise at the image before him.

Dream never cowers. He shouldn't have to, especially not in front of him. This version of Dream who refuses to meet Techno's gaze, who hasn't stopped shaking like a leaf and has made himself look impossibly small– this Dream was all wrong.

"Dream." Techno says, carefully prying the other man's hands out of his face to finally get Dream to meet his gaze. "Look at me."

Clicking his tongue in annoyance when Dream still refused to do so, Techno grabs him by the cheek to force their eyes to meet.

"Tell me what happened." There's urgency and underlying anger in his words that surprised even himself.

"Techno?" Dream's voice sounded far too small and that does something to his chest.

The green of Dream's eyes are glassy, but he seems to finally be aware of his surroundings and slowly, he lifts one bandaged hand to hold onto the hand Techno has on his face.

"I'm right here." Techno reassured him.

"I don't remember how I got here, I just know I had to get out of there." Dream spoke, looking distressed. "They were planning to kill me again, and I don't think I can handle another slash to the neck."

Techno doesn't miss the way Dream's other hand instinctively came to hold his neck as if he was trying to make sure it was still attached to his body and from his movement, Techno got a short glimpse of a scar that covered the entirety of Dream's neck.

"Tell me who did this to you." The voices are shouting at this point and Techno winces from how loud they are, all of them were shouting one thing in unison.

BLOOD! BLOOD! BLOOD!

All of them demanded for retribution. They wanted whoever it was that dared to hurt what was their's a fate worse than death. And for once, Techno wanted the same thing.

"Why do you want to know?"

"Because I'll find whoever they are and make sure they'll never touch you again." Techno promises, wiping the tear tracks on Dream's cheeks with his thumb, trying his best to keep his own voice from shaking.

He can deal with his own anger and the voices later, right now, Dream was injured and scared. Taking care of Dream was far more important because Dream needed him now, and Techno would do anything to make sure Dream never has to be scared of anything ever again.

"Let me clean your wounds," Techno ends up saying despite the voices demanding him to start taking names. "Do you think you can stand on your own?"

Dream nods his head slowly but makes no move to stand up and Techno wastes no time in picking him up.

It should worry him just how easy it was to carry Dream in his hands.

They've been starving him.

The realization only fueled his earlier anger, but Techno pushes the thought at the back of his mind. For now, he focuses on taking the other man to his bathroom to get him clean.

Dream was surprisingly quiet the entire walk, but before Techno could say anything to put some semblance of normalcy in their situation, Dream spoke up.

"Thanks, Techno." He says, voice still soft, but his hold on Techno's neck tightened for a moment to emphasize his gratitude. "I didn't know where else to go."

The admittance alone should have worried him, because Dream rarely showed any form of weakness to anyone, but then Techno started to feel Dream trembling in his hold once again and the soft sobbing that followed suit had Techno holding onto the other man even tighter.

"Always come to me." Techno tells him once he placed Dream on the empty bathroom stool, forcing Dream to meet his eyes to make sure the other man understood the seriousness of his statement. "Whatever happens, no matter what you did or whatever anyone says, you come to me, okay?"

Dream looks at him like he doesn't quite believe what Techno just said. For a long time, the other man just stared, searching Techno's face for something.

When it looked like he's finally found it, the small, grateful smile Dream gave him was enough to put Techno's raging mind at ease.

"Okay." Dream agreed, looking far too beautiful despite the current state he was in. "I trust you."

Three words and Techno's entire word stops for a single moment, processing the weight of Dream's statement. How much has he wanted to hear those three words? How long has he wanted to hear that from Dream's own lips?

"I'll keep you safe." Techno says, as he wrapped Dream in his arms, holding him close. "I promise."

I'll keep him safe. Techno repeated in his head. They're all afraid of me. No one would hurt him again, or I'd kill them. The voices cheered their agreement all the while.

I've been reading Jingliu's character stories and oh... OH... dear God am I in pain

First off, I'm not entirely sure who Jingliu's line of "I should kill you first... but you will have your own torment to bear for all of eternity." It could very well be directed at Yingxing like the structure of the paragraph seems to want to imply, HOWEVER countpoint

Yingxing falling into the mud almost gives the image that he is unconscious to me in some way, additionally, there is no actual dialogue/response that he gives to Jingliu which could support the idea that him falling into the mud is meant to describe him unconscious or unresponsive in some way. Which in that case, it could be seen that Jingliu's line was actually directed at Dan Feng who she right after saying that then points her sword at him. After all, her saying that line to someone unconscious (if we interpret the line as him falling unconscious etc etc. as I explained) wouldn't make the most sense to me?

If it was directed at Dan Feng there are two things, both of her lines would connect which I could see, she's saying that she really should kill Dan Feng first, that if his death could return everything to how it was she would do it, but since it won't he will have his own torment to bear for eternity. Additionally, we don't know? The actual exact timing of things yet, who's to say Yingxing had yet been turned into Blade at this point which would make the whole eternity , it's kind of unclear and all.

However, that interpretation could be wrong and it could in fact be directed at Yingxing, I dunno yet, we'll see.

Also goddamn the way The Preceptors absolutely set Dan Feng up is fucking cruel 😭 that man was set up!! And now for eternity his name is smeared and even his current incarnation hates him because of them and what he's been taught to the point of refusing to acknowledge how Dan Feng is an inseparable part of himself.

Also ALSO MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE CHARACTER STORIES, THE TRAGIC YURI OF JINGLIU AND BAIHENG IM IN SO MUCH PAIN! The way she speaks about her so personally, the way she can still even remember small details of happy memories they shared together, likely the happiest memories Jingliu experienced in her life, though parts of it may all be fuzzy. Like that's so... that hurts so much, Baiheng was taken too soon, Hyv was cruel to kill a character as kind as she 😭

And I saw Jingliu's animations and just the fact that her ultimate starts with her on the bow of a starskiff like truly hurts me deeply inside. AND THE FOX ON HER CASE TO REPRESENT BAIHENG WITH THE MOON BEING HERSELF

I hope we get more Baiheng lore, I'm so invested in her especially??? After learning from Jingliu's character stories that she was apparently a Nameless?? I hope we are able to hear about her time at some point even if it's just through like written archives or something. I just love Baiheng so much, she was such a clearly kind character evident from her travelogues and from what we have of Jingliu's character stories and voicelines

#Also WOW Yingxing and Dan Feng's motives in their plans are still such a mystery to me #But the fact that they were trying to create a new high elder??? #Like were they literally creating a child together or #Because if so then #Goddamn #If it was as a way to free Dan Feng since the whole loss of identity of being the High Elder #Then I'm gonna cry #THINKING ABOUT THE HIGH CLOUD QUINTET HELPING DAN FENG LEARN TO BE MORE SELFISH #AND HELPING CULTIVATE THAT “HUMAN HEART” #AND YX GOING TO THE POINT OF HELPING DF WITH THAT PLAN TO FREE HIM #God that hurts so bad #Especially if the way things are supposed to go is that #Dan Feng by carrying out that plan with Yingxing may have sentenced his lover to death without knowing #Like how crushing is that #Imagining YX helping DF try to free himself and in the end that attempt to seek freedom and be a bit more selfish like he deserves results #In him losing the man he loves most? #DAN FENG GOT SO SET UP #I need Dan Heng to clear his name... like pls free Dan Feng from that smear campaign #Also also #Still don't think the beloved was Baiheng like #I doubt it's baiheng bc even if their plan is meant to be bringing her back or making her into Vidyadhara looking at the bail theory #The actual description of killing the beloved and turning them into a monstrosity gives the impression that #The actions of doing such are simultaneous or at least occur in short succession if they aren't concurrent #And at least my understanding is that Baiheng's death did not in fact happen so suddenly as when their plan occurred? #Of course I may be wrong #There could be info I'm not seeing and there's obviously info we still don't have yet #Anyways another reason she's not the beloved is bc that mentioned beloved is Dan Feng's and we all know she's literally Jingliu's wifey #Jingliu will not STAND for her wife being considered Dan Feng's beloved /j #Anywahs #I'm so tired
