Arclight: Nathrezyri

Another species I am adding to Arclight from the fantasy side of things. So, I currently don't have any art of them in more sci-fi gear yet, but it's on my list to commission.

Nathrezyri are native to Nathrezyr, a cold mountainous world with active seismic and volcanic activity. Very little light reaches the surface because of the dim sun and volcanic dust in the atmosphere.

Physiology: Nathrezyri are bat/gargoyle like humanoids with tails, leathery wings, digitigrade legs, taloned hands and feet, horns, and eyes that glow in low light. They are naturally more agile, and their higher metabolism keeps them leaner on average. They have hollow bones which makes them more fragile to blunt force damage, but allows them to fly and glide more easily.

Their skin color ranges from pale creams and pinks to black. Their hair color tends to be white or black and silvers with age. Their horns grow from their forehead in a wide variety of styles. Their distinct ears differ depending on their heritage.

When living in colder climates, such as their homeworld, Nathrezyri grow a short coat of downy fur. They shed this coat during warm seasons. Due to the volcanic nature of their homeplanet, they are also able to filter atmospheric contaminants better, meaning they do not suffer side effects from breathing polluted air.

Nathrezyri have nictitating membranes, which are useful to protect their eyes from contaminants. They can see in low light, but not in full darkness. They can utilize echolocation when navigating in the dark. However, bright light causes severe headaches and temporary blindness. They are also able to hear sounds that are much higher pitch than humans can perceive.

Nathrezyri mature at roughly the same rate as humans but live slightly longer on average, and they tend to be a lot more active well into old age. They have an average lifespan of 85 standard years.

Society: Secrecy and subtlety are hallmarks of Nathrezyri society. They are well known as spies, information brokers, and slicers beyond their world. Their society is structured into seven core families with extended families and minor families pledging themselves to and serving the core families. They are governed by the Council of Seven, which oversee the formation of laws, resolve disputes, implement policies, and direct the military. Their military is comprised of house fleets that typically protect family interests except in times of war when family squabbles are set aside. Their fleets are small but they boast some of the most maneuverable ships and the best stealth technology in the region.

Language: Nathune is the primary language of the Nathrezyri, which utilizes high pitched sounds beyond what humans can hear. Though many Nathrezyri are able to learn Galactic Basic, most prefer Sy Bisti in their dealings beyond their homeworld.
