I unintentionally made this a lot softer than planned but that's just the kind of effect he has on me...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Mongrel."
The king addressed you directly, his usual grin plastered across his face as he lazily sat on his throne, the very silhouette of it casting a long and dark shadow across the throne room, a shadow you'd often find yourself hiding in. Gilgamesh knew this and he would never allow you to stay in it for too long.
"Step out into the light."
Ah there it was, the inevitable request that always forced you out of your comfort zone. Why couldn't your king leave you be? The war council had finished ages ago and it was the time to rest - why was he denying you this? Just as you were about to voice your opinion out loud Gilgamesh stopped you before you could even utter a single word.
"That was not a request, cease this ludicrous behavior and stop hiding from me."
He was ordering you now? Well shit, you really must have pissed him off but you could not figure out how for the life of you. With your shoulders slumped you kept your head low, a sign that you were listening as you approached him and kneeled. Instead of him reprimanding you he started to laugh in amusement as he looked down at you, his red eyes positivity gleaming like the rarest of rubies. The sun shined high above him, making him look more like a god if anything else.
"I do not understand what his highness finds so entertaining but I do wonder if you've caught a heat stroke of sorts." you chided as you desperately tried to hide the confusion in your voice.
"It's your attitude, my little mongrel. Is a King not allowed to look at his subject without question?"
"With all do respect Your Highness but you never do anything without a reason."
Another chuckle from him, another sigh from you.
"The sun burns high up in the sky and it's more humid than usual. Please do not exert yourself too much, my King."
My heart burns brighter than the sun itself, Gilgamesh thought to himself.
He liked it when you called him that, your King. Hearing those words come out of your mouth felt like a breeze on a hot summer day, something that soothed him immensely. The man was displeased with how often you hid yourself, anger bubbling in his chest at the thought that he couldn't see you as much as he wanted you. The end of the world was near, it's natural that he wishes to see the things he loves for one last time.
You didn't need to know that, of course. If you knew just how much he favored you there was a strong possibility that it would go to your head. Therefore, King Gilgamesh did whatever he could, and however he could, to keep you by his side as much as humanly possible.
Even as the world burns and the stars from the sky threaten to fall, his affections would follow until the bitter end of time.

It’s a bit dishonest to claim the ‘ban’ is discriminatory; the guidelines do not ban transgender women from all sporting events, as it’s been reported on in some countries, but only from sporting events in the female category. Transgender women are not female, so why should they be permitted to compete in the female category?
I think one of the major problems around the ‘debate’ is the infantilisation of female athletes. We’re not seen as talented or capable as our male athletic counterparts, so our athletes and achieved can be framed as being about ‘inclusion’ and ‘fun’ and ‘artistic’ (rather than ‘competitive’ or ‘serious’ or ‘thrilling’).
I think one of the other major problems around the ‘debate’ is the willingness of well-minded people to ignore how sex differences practically play out in patriarchy (or, in other words, people are just too ‘sex-blind’). Of course female and male athletes have different sporting capacities - our sports aren’t ‘gender-neutral’/’body-neutral’ - they’re designed to show-case male bodies!

"Even though South Africa legalized gay marriage in 2006 and was the first country in the world to guarantee gay rights on it's constitution I cannot believe a homophobic remote village would allow this intersex butch lesbian to exist unless she's secretly a man"
Fuck off you racist ass, gay people from the USA manage to survive their homophobic remote villages, I'm sure a World Champion Athlete like Ms Caster Semenya can make do (I don't even know if her hometown was homophobic, I don't know anything about it, and I don't think you do if you think growing up a tomboy constitute "male socialization")

I know I've done like, a general caster chronicles polin au but I feel like they would absolutely fuck as Lena and Ethan.
Like Penelope being so scared of herself? Having these powers that other people can seemingly sense, that immediately get her othered everywhere she goes? That she has little to no control over, wanting to be normal but being utterly incapable of it? Knowing during her birthday shes going dark or light and she doesn't get a say, feeling like shes already dark?
Colin who just wants to leave, who can't stand to be here but has to finish school. With a map full of places he wants to go and a shoe box full of college brochures because anyway away from here where it feels like hes drowning sounds amazing.
The shadow songs? The locket visions? The ancestors that were in love but didn't get a happy ending?? Them being able to kelt[which as a mortal he shouldn't be able to]? Them not really being able to touch???
Ughjhjjoghz if my writers block wasn't kicking my ass-

Drow Lore 🕷️ Gender Roles
Tumblr media
About gender roles in a Lolth-sworn drow society, based mainly on Drow of the Underdark:
🕷️ Gender Stereotypes - drow females are seen as "stronger, smarter, and more emotionally controlled than males"; males are viewed as "spiritually, intellectually, and physically inferior, useful mainly for physical and skilled labor, and for breeding". A male drow may be seen as superior to a member of any other race, but he is inferior even to a female drow of lower status.
🕷️ Way Of Lolth - Queen of Spiders has, "over the course of drow mythology and history, taken multiple consorts, all of whom have been eventually discarded". It is unclear if this is the cause of Lolth’s opinion of males or a symptom of it, but according to Way of Lolth, female drow are seen as holier and more devoted to the Goddess, and much more worthy to be her servants.
🕷️ Parenting - in a Lolth-sworn drow society, mother has the sole right to decide the fate of her child, including the right to kill it if she deems it weak or incompetent. Drow mothers, especially in noble houses, typically have little to no affection for their children and they rarely raise them (especially their sons) themselves. They usually assign this task to their older daughters or to other females with lower social status.
Male drow generally do not participate in raising children and they are not even permitted to perceive the child they sired as "theirs". Some "weak-minded males might enjoy playing with their spawn," but they are allowed to do it only in presence of female nurses or servants who "keep a watchful eye on them" (Dragon Magazine #298) - most likely to make sure that the male and the child will not get attached to each other too much, and that the child will not be influenced by him in any significant way.
When a male child becomes old enough to start his training as a wizard or a warrior, his mother may appoint his sire as his mentor. Female children are not obliged to treat their sires with respect and they are usually mentored by other females.
🕷️ Career - typically, female drow are trained to be clerics of Lolth and to hold positions of power, especially if they are highborn. Priestesses "interpret and disseminate the will of Lolth, conduct rites and rituals to honor the dark goddess, and technically have the authority to demand anything in her name."
Male drow often hold little power, but not all of them are mere property (even if many females see them as such). Some of the most skilled crafters, warriors, and arcane casters among the drow are male. Since males are constantly at risk of being discarded by their female leaders, only those with skills and abilities that are not easily replaceable can be relatively confident of their positions. This inspires, or maybe rather forces many of them to excel.
Among non-nobles, male and female drow can hold similar roles: they can be household servants, shopkeepers, warriors or artisans, regardless of their gender. "The males tend more toward physical labor and the females toward skilled crafts - not because females are weaker, but because they often have more opportunities to choose their own path than males do - but this is only a tendency, not a societal constant."
