Rambles about new 'type :D

Ok so lionblaze is very alterhuman for me right now :3 (I'm still reading the warrior cats books though so idk his full plot agsjs)

He's really silly and kind of relatable, pluuuus he leaves a lot of space for me to project onto him >:3 (compared to like ivypool for example who's emotions on a similar plot thing are shown more in depth)

I've just decided to try using constellic terms, but also he in particular feels more identify-with than identify-as to me, and I'm too lazy to research how that would fit in with him being a constel (and the term is even more niche than otherlink TT^TT)

If i did some linking (actually putting in effort to make myself identify as him) with him i could easily identify AS him I'm pretty sure, buuut I'm enjoying the identify-with identity with him :3

A while back i REALLY hyperfocused on him, and while that's now gone, (ughh christmas break is over can't watch the same 3 pmvs over and over while copy and pasting every one of his scenes into my notepad), i still feel the connection.

I could call him a hearttype, but also likeee i want to keep it more casual. Same with calling him a heartlink, plus the fact that I didn't do any conscious linking, and that's important for me personally when calling something a linktype.

I am also aware that this is something normal (/neu) humans could experience with characters buuut i think viewing him through an alterhuman lens is just better

Oh and also another possible term would be copinglink, because of the nature of my projection. Lol "copingheartlink" would be accurate XDD

But yeahh I'll be sticking with trying out calling him a constel :D and if i decide another term suits better, I'll makea post about in anyways XD

My other Old Big Interest that I never talk about is Super Paper Mario. When I was some small age before I even integrated Ice into my brain I was coming up with a lot of fakemons and a whole story for me my sibling and our best friend to larp out, only I basically copy pasted the SPM Chaos Heart into it, and made up a fakemon linked to it specifically. I don't remember much else about it. SPM is still heavily ingrained in my subconscious though. (Listening to its OST)

FIRE EMBLEM FYI: Specifically for 3Houses/3Hopes because I need a separate one for this franchise specificially given how many crazy things I got due to being involved in this fanbase via my fanworks:

DO NOT try to convince me to like or tolerate Byleth/student ships, ESPECIALLY the ones with the lords (aka CIaude, Dimitri, EdeIgard). I already summarized why I don’t like FE3H Byleth ships with student chars here. While the spinoff game FEW3H has now removed that teacher/student problematic situation, the fandom keeps putting the FE3H elements into the FEW3H fanworks (i.e. remembering Byleth from “another life” trope)...so no thanks!! DO NOT SHOW ME IT!!!

As for the Byleth ships with faculty members, my response is here so don’t try to bait me about that topic either thanks.

I do not care whom you ingame S-support. 3Houses limits the dating-sim part of the game to that character, so I cannot care less about how you play the game. The main issue I have is when people treat Byleth the “character” as a legit ship material when I personally think they are a cool character ruined by fans who are too obsessed with badly executed self insert otome tropes bc they self-project super hard onto them. Just to be clear, any FE3H or FEW3H OC/Canon >>>>>>Byleth ships personally. Even Byleth-sonas that remove the teacher/student aspects are better than canon FE3H!Byleth

Having a devastating stand isn’t always what it’s cut out to be. Y/N had a very powerful stand but whenever they overexerted themselves they would get very sick and weak for a few days. Their power was radiation. Y/N has a high tolerance for radiation, for up to 3 times the lethal dosage, but they start feeling the illness from the 2 times mark. Y/N is used to this, this is a burden they must bear in order to serve the boss, and to protect Trish, the daughter of the boss.

Fighting off the La Squadra with the rest of the gang is wearing down Y/N. But Y/N has the Zeppeli blood inside them and knows it’s their duty to fight and protect till their very last breath. Y/N is determined to stay strong for Bucciarati and the others even when they are literally staring down their executioner at this very moment.

“Don’t assume I’m afraid to die. I’m willing to take you down with me.” Y/N glared up at their captor. They were intimidated by his black sclera and blood red irises but they weren’t going to give him the satisfaction of showing any fear.

“ Nice try. I know you can’t right now. Your body is still mending and you’re too weak to even try.” Risotto calmly answered.

“Now I’m going to ask you once before I decide to torture the answers out of you … where are you and bucciarati hiding the boss’s daughter?” He gave a fair warning before interrogating them.

“Eat shit. I’ll never tell you! Just go ahead and kill me because you’re just wasting your time!”

Y/N tried to move their arm to try and punch him but they couldn’t budge a damn inch. A clinking noise echoed in the basement reminding them how dire their situation was. Y/N was being held up by their wrists with metal cuffs. They couldn’t really tell at first because their whole body was sore and still groggy. Looking down their clothing was gone too except for their underwear. This just made them feel more small and exposed. Y/N wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of their embarrassment, they were going to stay strong. This wasn’t the first time they were nude in front of a stranger.

He chuckled quietly. “You’re just asking for it. Stay stubborn for all I care. I got all the time in the world.”

Y/N felt a sharp pain in their left breast and then something lukewarm started dripping down their chest. Y/N looked down in horror and saw a bloody sewing needle sticking out their breast. They wanted to wince but fought it back.

“I told you I would only give you one warning. I’m starting off easy on you since you’re AFAB but that’s not going to stop me from doing worse things to you.” He warned again.

“You’ll have to try harder than that. I’m used to being in pain.” They said shuddering.

“Really now? What should I do then… you used to be a cheap whore before Bucciarati took you off the streets. Maybe I should get my men in here and thoroughly use you. Or are you used to being a cumdump too?” He chuckled sadistically.

This struck a chord in them. Y/N is usually calm and confident but bringing up their past is just a huge kick to the gut. They don’t like their pride being shit on.

He quickly caught their leg before they could make contact and then they felt an unbearable sharp white hot pain coming from their Achilles heel.

“Augh! No! Oh God!” They screamed in agony. They trembled and held back themselves from vomiting from the pain and peeked down at their right foot. There was a massive razor blade sliced open their Achilles heel. Their tendon was completely severed. Blood started to pool on the concrete floor making sickening dripping noises.

“The left one will be next…” he growled. “Now tell me, where’s the damn girl?”

“I said I will never tell you. Augh… She’s just a child. She didn’t ask to be the Boss’s daughter! If you want to find out the boss’s identity then be my guest. But I won't go against bucciaratis orders!” They defied him once more.

They could feel the same horrific pain coming from the left heel this time and they viscerally screamed at the top of their lungs. With both heels severed there’s no way for them to walk.

The pain and the gruesome imagery was too much, they felt the intense wave of nausea hit and threw their head to the side and heaved. Feeling the burn from the bile of an empty stomach and the taste of blood from the radiation sickness still lingering, made them shudder and moan. Tears pricked their eyes from the horrible wave of events.

Risotto was unbothered by the display of disgust. “Weak stomach huh? Poor thing. I’d bet you’d like some water to get that taste out of your mouth.” He low key teased.

“Yeah… I would like some water. But I know you are not a very accommodating host.” Y/N said while spitting in hopes of getting more of the taste out.

“You’re really loyal to bucciarati aren’t you? So much you’re willing to go through physical torture and still stand strong… hmm. I could just kill you since you’re refusing to cooperate but...” He said looking at Y/N very intently. He looked like a predator staring down its meal.

“I think I have a contingency plan in place. I’m going to use you as bait. Bucciarati is real soft on you isn’t he? Don’t act like you two aren’t intimate. I’m going to have him get you in exchange for the boss’s daughter.” He said smugly.

“He won’t do it! I won’t allow it! We are sworn to the boss’s orders to protect her!” Y/Ns cool was starting to crack a little. Bucciarati did love Y/N very much, but enough to screw the boss’s orders? No, of course not! Y/N had to put faith into Bucciarati and the rest of the guys that they will get them out of this situation.

“Oh we’ll see.”he chuckled darkly as he walked away for a minute messing with some kind of tripod camera. He had it aimed at a dirty old mattress. Y/Ns heart sunk into their stomach. They knew exactly what Risotto was up to.

“No… you can’t do that! Anything but that!” Y/N started to panic. They tried budging their restraints on their wrists out of desperation but it was just a waste of energy.

“It’s either me or all of my men at once. If you’re able to get knocked up you aren’t gonna know who the father is, and be humiliated by having several men’s cum all over you.” He warned giving Y/N their only 2 options. “So which option do you prefer?”

“I choose… you…” they said dejectedly.

In the end, backlash to innocuous comments about fandom are most often a form of self-consciousness on display.

People come to fandom for validation. When they think they're about to get validation, and then they don't, it makes them feel insecure about their preferences. They take innocuous comments personally because they perceive them as a value judgment, even if they are not intended to be so.

When people mock OCs in front of me, I just mute or block and move on with my life. I don't engage. I see it all the time, but I don't let it impact me. I don't let it drive me away from a fandom. (And I do not reach out to blogs who haven't expressed interest in OCs for recommendations or validation, either.)

We have to curate our own experiences. If people don't like ocs, they are free to curate a fandom space that does not have them in it. It's no skin off my nose, and it should be no skin off their noses if I decide to curate a fandom space that does not include shipping canon characters.

I don't know that anyone's noticed this, but I intentionally left off the shipping tag when I made that post. I did not want to put my opinions into that specific space within the fandom. I have a right to express myself on my blog, but I wasn't about to inject my opinion directly into the tag when I knew I wasn't validating the emotions of the people within it. That's why it's very odd to me that people are interpreting what I said as negative, because I took multiple active measures to make sure I was honoring people who do like that ship, and I avoided talking about the ship itself very much on purpose. But if people want to interpret what I was saying in a really negative way, or as a targeted value judgement of their preferences, that's on them. If they want to commit themselves to anger, that is their right.

There is an ongoing debate in the fandom where some people wish TWST was an otome while others are firmly against it. For me? I'm somewhere in the middle. Because, to be honest, I don't think TWST would work well as a traditional otome game as some might think.

For one, that would automatically mean giving Yuu a defined gender, appearance and personality. While I'm all for giving Yuu more personality, since they have the presence of a bottle cap, that would strip away the self insert nature of their character. Part of the fun of being in this fandom is imagining how you or your OC would handle being in that world. It allows marginalized groups to imagine themselves in that world, especially black and brown people, men and genderqueer people. Let's face it. Most otome protagonists are shit with a few exceptions. In all likelihood TWST would be no different if it was an otome. Frankly, I have little faith in Yana's ability as a writer to create a compelling female otome lead.

There are way too many characters in the game for that to work. Most otomes have 3-7 love interests. TWST has 20 main characters, excluding Ortho and Lilia for obvious reasons. The game has a hard enough time juggling all of the boy's arcs and development without adding romance into the mix.

I think turning it into an otome would also affect the characterization of these guys as well. Unless something is a dark otome like Diabolik Lovers, which—let's face it—Disney would never allow or extremely well written, otomes tend to sanitize the love interests to some extent in order to make them seem more desirable to the player. With main appeal of the game being that most of the boys are complex and grey, that would go the drain if it was an otome.

Plus, it wouldn't focus as much on the boy's platonic relationships. The main appeal of an otome is them romancing the player. A lot of the time they neglect all of the other kinds of bonds to only focus on that. While there are exceptions, again, this is Yana we're talking about, so I doubt she can pull that off. That would be another appeal of the game down the drain as well.

What I think would work a lot better is the Persona/Fate route. Have only a select few characters be romanceable and the rest stay strictly platonic, being able to bond with characters in both regards of your own choosing. That way we can have the best of both worlds. People who aren't into romance can play the game strictly platonically while picking who they want to spend time with. Those who do want romance can seek that out as well. Plus, the main boys would stay pretty close to how they are now. Yuu would also have more of a presence and impact on the plot.

There's a catch. For that to work, there can only be a few possible characters to romance. If I was in charge of that decision, I would make it the overblot boys. They have the most development and care put into their backstory, so I think they would work the best as potential love interests.

So I was trying to find some random Sonic OCs off Google to draw today because, man, art block killing me. I would like to prefece that I, myself, have Sonic OCs.

(This is all old art, except for my sonic.exe oc, but alas)

I think they're fun and a good way to express your creativity, whether that's writing them to date a character that you like or to be the most popular/powerfulest person EVER.

But with my not very deep dive into the 3 page of Google, I realized that even the really well draw or intriguing OCs are "cringe" and "Mary Sues".

With this, the notion comes that OCs are inherently cringe and not worth making unless you make them the most boring and unspecial person ever. Like: "This is my Sonic oc, Joe the cat. He works at a desk job, and he likes coffee." Making just your average Joe can be fun, but the thought that ALL OCs have to be fucking boring is dumb.

This thought is everywhere. You scroll through Google for 30 seconds, and you see articles about sonic OCs being a sickness, like this article from the medium. Like the drawing that a 10 y/o posted on deviant art about their green sonic will irreparably damage art.

This mindset actually hurts art in the long run. If you get told over and over again that the self insert you make is cringe and you should never draw again then, inevitably, you're going to stop drawing.

I was someone actually who thought for a very long time that my OCs shouldn't be special, or have super cool powers, or even have heterocromia. A good lot of my original characters were boring because I was worried about making a Mary Sue (Thanks CyberSans). It's actually a very deliberate choice that my self-insert/persona, Mephy, cringe.

Yes, I took things from jjba and Sonic to make this weird combo of Mephiles, Diego, jouta, and myself. I did this to push myself to make something "cringe," and anytime I think about removing his tail, I remember why I gave him one.

After I disregarded being seen as cringe, did I start to like designing characters. Just the want to make something I like without being worried if it's cringe or not. I think the freedom to make things like this is very important for young artists (or just artists in general). It's very liberating.

I took the making things purposefully cringe into my TF2 OCs. I gave them on the noise names, and I gave them back stories that were edgy. I enjoyed it. It made me happy.

With the acceptance of being seen as weird, I almost forgot what things were "cringe." I've just been seeing so many people happily making sonadow fan kids that I forgot people think that's cringe. I forgot that edgy OCs is cringe. I forgot that just being into something odd is cringe, and that makes me sad. I honestly thought that we got past thinking that darkspine the evil hedgehog (original character, do not steal) is cringe.

It's just sad. These OCs are cool. And yes, there are sonic OCs that aren't seen as cringe, like Ian Jr, S.N.T., or Trevor the hedgehog, but those are the exceptions. When was the last time you heard something say that Rosechu was their favorite OC? That's right, you haven't because sonichu is very much "cringe" (and don't bring up that Chris-chan did some fucked up shit, y'all didn't like she before she went to jail or did any of that fucked up stuff.) Why can't someone just make someone weird?

Concussion: Stop seeing things as cringe, and cringe culture is NOT dead until we kill it ourselves.

Anyway, I think I have written enough, and my English teacher would say that this is an emotional rant and that I need to rewrite like half of this. I think one of her exact words on a paper I wrote was "zack, this sentence makes me want to smear poop in my hair."

5. Is there any significance behind their hair color? 

not really lol. john's hair is brown because it's the most common hair colour, nico [pascal's object of obsession from 2017 inver] has black hair because i wanted to further visually distinguish him from bowman. both have visible grey streaks because it's an easy way to help define the shape of the hair when drawing it

6. Is there any significance behind their eye color? 

yes but only in that they (and all my characters) have brown eyes because i got tired of ppl seemingly on purpose avoiding brown eyes for their interesting characters. so i only make brown-eyed characters on purpose. the only exception is cuinn (harpy) because he has albinism but typical members of his species have dark brown eyes.

7. Is there any significance behind their height? 

yes, john is my height on purpose (5'4") and nico is 5'3" because i'd unintentionally made my previous trans man characters pretty tall so i thought well let's make one who is short hashtag representation

8. What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story? 

i relate to john because i'm also a beautiful brunette who sucks so much. nico is unrelatable to me because he's a cop (he's not really but the plot does follow a buddy cop format)

9. Are they based off of you, in some way? 

john from long long ago (2011, my first major setting) was a direct self insert thus the similarities in appearance. he has some parts of me in him because he's my main dnd character and it's hard not to project when doing 5 hour improv sessions once a week but he has never been less like me tbh. nico ehhh not really, we don't align personality-wise because i would not tolerate pascal for more than 5 seconds without wanting to hit him with my car

10. If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person? 

for john yeah 100%, they were made for each other. the angle i'm going with for their arc is a "perfectly synchronous" relationship being no protection for some bad shit going down between them, showing that if two people are SOO perfectly made for one another, it can often lead to one person taking the other for granted, assuming they can predict how the other person will react in any given situation, and ultimately it all results in a messy breakdown of communication.

for nico i meannnnnnnn he is a horse trainer and pascal is a horse so there is that, but in terms of personality they are intentionally very opposed and clash frequently, get on each other's nerves, fight, and not always smooth over those incidences. they are not very compatible.

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)? 

I'm going to be real with u I could draw and write John in my sleep. Nico i find difficult to write, I have a hard time finding his voice. The ranger uniform also annoys me.

13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all? 

john as a dnd character has no future whatsoever aside from a planned multiclass, he could fall off a cliff next session and die idk. Nico is one of the few characters i haven't thought much about post-canon, i don't feel like it's relevant.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? 

john: 1. literally just say the first thing that comes to mind, always. 2. keep em guessing

nico: 1. hes scared of boats and this is surprisingly relevant, i keep forgetting it lol. 2. i try to keep in mind my studies of horse trainers & their work, how they interact with their animals and what subtle body language they might use; these are people who frequently have to convince giant frightened animals that they are in charge here, this translates into how they hold themselves, how they speak, how they approach conflict etc.

15. What is something about your OC can make you laugh?
