I'm kinda too old to be crying about both Kai and Sehun in the military, but I avoided tumblr because I didn't want to see that day 1 post, but now that I have it's a big relief to know it's almost over. Thanks for being there through it all. I got into EXO in 2020 and found this blog while looking for people to follow who post about them, and it was so helpful in getting me exposed to a lot of their content that I missed.

That is the exact reason I started this project, for myself. And I’m so glad others have embraced these countdowns as a way to get to know EXO’s extensive portfolios!

Also—there is no age limit to love and miss EXO!

Tho, it rly is so confusing. Like where was this energy when ppl were literally sitting outside SME protesting to have Jongdae removed from the group, simply because he was married? Or when Chanyeol had his scandal back in 2020? (Tbh that scandal was just ridiculous, the “evidence” was just laughable 😅.)

SM is just the worst when it comes to pr and management. Like rly they are. At a point, they just let the clout from their groups do all the work and just sit there and watch. I seriously believe that exo could’ve even more successful than they are now. Like doing the Olympic closing ceremony and then a possible invitation to perform at Coachella? That was the perfect recipe for a westward expansion! (Tho we would have fix the weird gaps b/w Countdown and DMUMT, and then obsession ofc)

Maybe it was because sm had tried with both BoA and SNSD (their two biggest acts at the time) to break into the western markets and both didn’t pan out like they wanted, so they gave up on the idea. But when they realized the time was right, exo was about to their military service, so they moved onto NCT 127 and then SuperM. Tho, I’m probably giving them way too much credit lmao. 🤣

If you’re interested, I may or may not made an alternative version of exos career if things went (nearly) perfectly for them, esp without military enlistments and political tensions in the way. Lmk, and I’ll send u the link!

i think sm really just didnt want exo in the west. theyre target was always asia, so theyve put more focus in china and japan with them. which is a shame bc, well, im in america!!!!! its true tho that if sm had nurtured it, they wouldve been huge in the west, they already had the demand and the clout. i remember them going toe-to-toe with one direction back in '13. ONE DIRECTION!!!! and it was neck and neck, like they really couldve been as big as b*s here. but honestly??? im glad that didnt happen. cause idk if i could handle this fandom if it were at that level lol. tho omggg if they had gone to coachella i wouldve acted a straight FOOL. again, a crisis averted for me 😇. tho ill never forgive them for never coming back to the states. esp bc they stopped coming when i told myself i was going to go no matter what hahahHA....😭

You were pretty much right with the EXO stuff. When EXO started out, there were 12 members with 6 in EXO-K and 6 in EXO-M. EXO-K sang songs in Korean while EXO-M sang the same songs in Mandarin. They came together as EXO for their first album. After 2 or 3 years, 3 members left, all in EXO-M. So, they started exclusively promoting as EXO, with 9 members after that. Sometimes you'll see 8, because one member has a lot of solo work and other entertainment projects in China, so he isn't as active tho still part of the group.

EXO-CBX and EXO-SC are official subunits with different members. In 2019, 2 members started their military services, so they did an album with 6 members. They seem to be putting out something when they have at least 6 members now. The youngest 2 are currently the last ones who haven't started theirs, by this time next year, 6 of 8 Korean members will have completed their military service. It will be 2024/2025, before all the members could possibly perform or be on an album together again.

THIS IS GLORIOUS THANK YOU! I am patiently waiting for my biases to return and all will be right in the world but when kai and sehun go T-T i will start the countdown ALL over again :(

Hi baby!!! I just wanna say if you’re struggling with Sungjin’s enlistment (especially the way he announced it which is just whensbfnf it’s so on brand for him it is PAINFUL), particularly because he’s the first enlistment for you since getting into Kpop, know that you’re not alone. I think anyone who follows/supports/biases Korean born male idols goes through a similar experience, especially when it’s your bias (or perhaps your ult). For me it was EXO’s Suho’s enlistment last year that, while I knew was coming because of his age, still hurt when it happened, because it was my first (I started following EXO after Xiumin and DO’s enlistments). And then more recently with Chanyeol’s announcement, it hurt my heart so very very deeply, because he is my ultimate bias, but I will say his enlistment announcement somehow stung less. And I know Baekhyun’s is soon too, and hopefully that one will sting less too.

What I’m trying to say is— the first one is the hardest. But oh, the gifts they leave us with— the music, the content, the memories, there’s so much to hold on to to pass the time! It’s almost been a year since Junmyeon’s enlistment already and it feels like it was yesterday that he left. Think of it this way too, the sooner they go, the sooner they come back. I can empathize with Sungjin’s announcement specifically because it comes after a long hiatus from him, because Chanyeol’s was slightly similar— we got one day of him back and then not 24 hours later the press release went out. The consensus among exo-I’s I see is that while being in the military certainly isn’t a vacation, to be a civilian and out of the public eye is... well, we (myself and a good number of others) all feel very complexly that this will be good for him, to be not Chanyeol the rapper but Park Chan Yeol, the 28 year old Korean man. I can’t help but think a little similarly for Sungjin. And I know that he will do well and come back to us safely.

What I’m trying to say is if you’re feeling a lot— anguish, fear, sadness, if it makes you cry, worry about the future, and creates and empty pit inside you, it’s normal, the sadness aches, it’s okay to feel them. Let yourself feel them but don’t let them consume you. Be gentle with yourself. Find solace and comfort in other MyDay who’ll being waiting patiently alongside you, it makes the time pass by more quickly for sure. I follow an EXO military countdown blog, Holding for EXO, and it genuinely makes my heart so happy to see the posts and memories every day as the gap between time served and time remaining wanes smaller and smaller and smaller.

I’m so dumb I had written a whole response to this and then accidentally closed the tab before hitting post and totally lost it LOL. I’ll try to remember what I had posted. But anon, thank you so much for taking the time to send this message. 

The first thing I wanted to say was that I realized that I totally forgot that J.Seph is in the military too, and he’s actually the first idol I stan who has enlisted. But they had said that they had postponed his enlistment, and he did it at a time where he’ll be back for live shows, and he’s the only one who has to enlist from KARD cuz Matt doesn’t have to. Plus, he’s still active on Instagram, so I don’t feel like I miss him too much.

But I’m also just very confused about the enlistments to begin with, because we have J.Seph (born June ‘92) who’s enlisted already, and then we have someone like Shownu (also born June ‘92) who hasn’t yet. WHICH TO BE CLEAR IM NOT SAYING I WANT SHOWNU IN THE MILITARY! I’m just saying with idols that I stan from the ‘92 line (Jin, Shownu, Baekhyun) not having enlisted yet, I didn’t even realize that idols from ‘93 like Sungjin were at their enlistment point already. And the way he said it made it sound like he’s starting the chain of enlistments in Day6, which also means the chain of idols I stan enlisting cuz I stan a lot that are around that age and UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I also will never forgive corona for coming and preventing me from living out my goal of seeing Day6 live before they enlisted. 

I’ll definitely be ok, and I think I might’ve lost the point a couple times here, but I’m just sad. I was really looking forward to the new Day6 album and finally having ot5 back after nearly a year, but if they promote this album on music shows it’s just not gonna be the same. Also, if anyone has bothered to read this and you stan Day6, please hmu cuz I have zero MyDay friends that I know of lol and would love to make some. But once again thank you so so much for this message. It means a lot. I’m gonna go listen to Feeling Good and cry now lol (not seriously cry, but cry inside lol)

Firstly, I want to wish you a very Happy Birthday. Its 30 sexy indeed.

Although it's a happy occasion, today has approached extremely quickly for my liking. I'm still finding it difficult to wrap my head around not being able to see you for the next two years.

I am never happy when I sit to pen down these enlistment letters, but I am having an increasingly difficult time while I'm addressing yours. I've repeatedly written and erased so many words because I can't find the right words to express my heart.

When I first got to know about EXO in 2014, I remember falling hard for the charms of Byun Baekhyun. People know you today as a Genius Idol, but for me, I remember the BaekHyun in his twentys who practiced with EXO from morning to dawn right from pre-debut and continues to do so till today. Baekhyun who is always shining bright on stage, who is the most kind and humble person who always tries to bring a smile on everyone's face be it on stage or offstage even now.

My youth is spent with EXO, and naturally there have been moments in my life so far when I was at my lowest, I was feeling down, gloomy or just angsty in particular, in these times I always sought comfort from your voices. I will never have good enough words to express my sincerest gratitude towards you.

It was not until recently I realized I have been so selfish. You've always shined so bright Baekhyunnie that your light blinded all your struggles and long time sufferings. Although I do realize I couldn't have done anything even if I had known, it pains me immensely to think about how hard this journey must have been for you. All I can do, is say "Thank You for Singing for me BaekHyun-ah. You always do well."

The Baekhyun I know is a very open person, very carefree and enthusiastic; Someone who is an introvert by nature, who doesn't like to go out and strip himself of his energy by socializing, but instead he loves to stay indoors and play computer games for hours on end. The Baekhyun I know has a lot to tell us and so he does on his Vlives, he isn't particularly concerned about his image when he plops down on his couch and acts like he's alone when a million people are watching, be it short stories about his new air fryer or pictures of his favourite Mc Donald's meal. He isn't cheesy but will always send heart fluttering messages on bubble, especially when he drinks alcohol. The Baekhyun I know loves his family, friends and fans equally and will not shy away from defending them, especially from Mosquitoes.

The Baekhyun I know has never backed down from educating us, may it be calling out Sasaengs or encouraging us to fill petitions to help a cause. I admire Baekhyun as a person beyond comprehension.

Baekhyun-ah you're truly the light of our lives.

When I grew up looking at Baekhyun I learnt a lot. BaekHyun-ah, your words have always touched my too-vulnerable heart. The most important lesson I learnt is that not every day has to be a good day, but I must live anyway. We must live life at the fullest but also at our own pace and with our own terms. So until you come back from the military, I will try my best to live my life diligently. I hope to go to college and take the first steps towards my dreams, even if that means I will be getting further away from home. I wonder if we're equally scared about new adventures?

You've always been so chatty with us, how are we all going to survive without your impromptu messages and lives? I know you're just as affected by this as we are but from the way you've been talking recently, so I will diligently give you updates about my days on twitter with #백현아오늘은 in hopes that you will not keep on worrying about losing us now because we have already come so far together. I won't even be able to count the number of memories we have lived together in the past and I cant wait to make hundreds more so I can promise you I'm not going anywhere. So far you have been our light, but now allow us to be your light.

Bakekhyun-ah, take care of yourself please. I know you will be quick to make friends and acquaintances in the military because you're a literal ball of sunshine but I'm extra worried because of your health condition.

Believe in our bond and when we say Saranghaja, we truly want to be with you forever. ‘vibe’ by 1TEAM. so remember when i said i was done with boy groups...well have you heard of 1TEAM. these boys are seriously the cutest, just look at them! and i love the vibe of this title track (pun intended). seriously it’s a jam and i would 10 out of 10 recommend listening to the b-side tracks as well! i appreciate that all the tracks have their own unique style, ‘countdown’ goes hard and is a great juxtaposition to the title track. i will definitely be keeping a eye out for these boys. (also they are very active on instagram and i appreciate that!)

take off - the 1st mini album by wayV. finally the comeback we all deserve. this shall have it’s own post because seriously it deserves its own post. i am still processing the music video. like seriously as a winwin stan i have a lot to process. all the tracks are perfection! ‘let me love u’ makes me weep with all their sweet vocals. ‘say it’ honestly terrified me with the first 5 seconds reminding me of some slytherin ring tone. it’s such a great track! its dynamic and that build of the track, it’s great and that ‘oh na na na’. 11 out of 10 would recommend the album and the mv!

WE ARE SUPERHUMAN - the 4th mini album by NCT127. so NCT has been ruling my time and energy ever since i had the opportunity to see them live (let’s be real they ruled my time prior hahaha). ‘highway to heaven’ is my jam and ill be that person to say it can rule as a title track. i loved the music video it’s simple, classic, and a vibe. i love these boys and every single song on the EP is a bop! i love these talented men, and seriously they never disappoint. i just have one question, do they have time to sleep?!?! like seriously, they’ve released the EP, have completed comeback stages, concerts, traveled north america. like what the even?! they deserve some sleep after all they have served us over the past two months!

i’m the one by MXM. i have no idea where i first heard this song! but it is seriously a bop and i am obsessed with this track. it is light, fresh, and everything you need in a summer jam.

her private life OSTs. seriously these tracks have been on repeat. thanks to this drama i was introduced to IN2IT again, and i have had ‘it’s u’ on repeat. also introduced to ONE, and ‘heyahe’ is a vibe. it was so unexpected to see that he was a rapper, to be honest i would have pegged him for a vocalist with his sweet face. ‘smile again’ by RUNY. like dang this is a bop and jam, i love listening to it just chilling at home cleaning. it’s great! ‘maybe’ by lee hae ri makes me weep, but in a good way. it’s just iconic and her vocals are beautiful. 

dramas & movies. *spoilers alert*

a werewolf boy. this was a rewatch with my friends. we were struggling to pick a movie to watch and we decided upon this classic. everyone really enjoyed it, and i am glad they were able to see park bo-young as a young actress, because they just finished watching ‘strong woman do bong soon’.

swing kids. this one i watched while on a plane ride! it is seriously not what i expected, it was a historical film that took place in a pow camp. it was a lot to process, and probably wasn't a great idea to watch on a plane with hundred other people, because i ended up weeping like a baby. but all is well and the film was incredible. i wanted a happy ending but about five minutes in i realized whatever was coming my way was probably going to be at best bittersweet. i would recommend watching this one, it was a spectacular film that touched upon various issues, and hardships that many people faced at the end of the war. kyungsoo is the reason i have been keeping an out for this film, but it was an incredible film in it’s own right, and i’m not just saying that because my bias of EXO was a part of the film. the cast as a whole did a wonderful job conveying the struggles and emotions felt. i would 10 out of 10 recommend.

side note: i just heard word that our boy kyungsoo will be off for military enlistment in july. what a great way to end the month, thank you to sm for the super last minute notification. it’s fine no emotional breakdowns were had here TT. i just hope that he stays healthy and does his best. i will be patiently awaiting his return. 

her private life. this one. y’all this drama. seriously insert *slow clap and standing ovation*. i loved everything about this drama our main leads stayed my existance with their story. our boy ONE burst out a new bias and someone who needs to release more music, like please and thank you (still waiting for a random OST to appear). i love me a classic drama with flashbacks to childhood, and friendships that are unexpected. i loved how he found her fan-girl side endearing, and i desperately need that in my life. and hello, ryan gold is extremely dreamy and we all need a ‘lion’ in our life, am i right?! i would recommend it 9.5 out of 10!

my only complaint is that i wish that shi-an found out that deok-mi was his fansite. that would have been the most precious moment of the whole show i can guarantee that!

he is psychometric. of course i had to watch this one, our jin-young made his official male lead debut. it was really good, and kinda dark, lots of mystery. i appreciate a good drama that ties in long lost childhood memories, that reconnect our otp. it was pretty great, and i did not expect his hyung to have committed the horrible act that he did. very unexpected and wrecked my heart because *heart eyes* and i wanted him to be a good guy. i would recommend it 8 out of 10. 

radio romance. this was a super cute one, and a kind of ‘oh i have no other dramas to watch since i am watching all live dramas’ kind of pick. but oh how thankful i am to have stumbled upon this gem. the main actor was also in ‘splash splash’ love and i am falling more in love with him like seriously. i appreciated the flash backs as always a classic, they knew each other as children story. i love how she really became an oasis for him to get to know himself and grow as an individual to find his own voice. it was a good one, i would recommend it for a cute drama! and all the pretty bows are at the end, even the second female leads gets her boo! i would give it an 8 out of 10.

i hate you juliet. watched this one on a whim because it was on the viki discover page, but i actually don’t recall much from it sadly. the episodes were short, and if it had been longer i don’t know if i would have finished it. super predictable but i don’t know how the main leads ended up together i was totally team joon mo.

love o2o. another chinese drama, who am i? this is seriously a great drama, and i loved the concept of her being a gamer, and how they met in that avenue before ever meeting in real life. they were super cute, and he is super attractive. of course they encounter all the hardships that a major-rich-hot-senior in college-entrepreneur  would encounter when in a relationship with the cute-poorish-girl from a small city. but it was great, a lot predictable, but everything you want for a cute summer rom-com drama. i would 8 out of 10 recommend.
