The liberal culture of perpetually walking on eggshells, fearing that whatever you say might offend somebody, or (alternatively) feeling like you are always a victim to everybody's microaggressions is extremely unhealthy.
The conservative culture of perpetually being rude under the guise of "just saying it like it is", completely disregarding that what you say might offend somebody, or entering into conversations always on the defense is extremely unhealthy.
People in both left and right political groups who fit within these behavioral patterns seem to operate off of getting high from feeling righteousness.
These behavioral trends in both groups breed authoritarianism, paranoia, ignorance, aggression, ideological purity, and black and white thinking.

"I don't care about shipcourse, I touch grass hurr durr"
But you do realize that antis are part of a far right push towards wider censorship policies in actual real life. Of actual real art. Right? Right??????
You touch grass but do you ever want to touch a piece of non-corporate-approved not cookie cutter white christian media again? You ever read a book that has been banned and think "well jeez it would suck if I lived in a time when I would get arrested for this."
THE TIME IS HERE. THE PUSH IS NOW. ARTISTS OF ALL SORTS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FANFICTION OR SHIPPING HAVE BEEN SPEAKING OUT AND WARNING YOU ABOUT THIS FOR AGES. IT IS NOT A "CHRONICALLY ONLINE" STANCE TO THINK CENSORSHIP IS BAD AND ACTIVELY DANGEROUS TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO CANNOT BUY THEIR WAY OUT OF JAIL. THE NAZIS HAD A WHOLE THING ABOUT "GOOD MORALLY PURE ART" AND "BAD MORALLY DEGENERATE ART" TOO. THEY BURNED RECORDS OF QUEER CLINICS. THEY CENSORED ANY NEWS THAT WASN'T WITH THEIR AGENDA. DOES THAT REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING DOES IT.

friendly reminder that Sharia is just the word for canonical law in Islam (similar to how Halakha is canonical law in Judaism); there is nothing inherently sinister about it, and misusing it to mean “forcing non-Muslims to live under Muslim rule” makes you look incredibly ignorant

The Faith of the Seven is truly the most unserious religion in asoiaf because (1) the Seven do fuck all, to the extent I doubt that they exist and aren’t just an Andal psy-op originating from Old Town
and (2) because on several occasions holier-than-thou septons had to rock up to House Targaryen and be all “look, fine, you can fuck one of your sisters - but only one. We are apparently willing to overlook one of humanity’s greatest instinctual taboos but we are compelled to draw the line at polygamy…apparently”

I’m sorry about my angry posts, I’m just so sick of the dehumanization that is happening regarding the hostages, some of whom aren’t even Israeli or Jewish (not that Israelis or Jewish people should be dehumanized either), but have been decided to be “guilty by association.” I’m sorry but that’s disgusting.

Israel ignoring Egypt's warnings, Israel's chaotic "recovery" (a.k.a. their explicit non-recovery and bombing of hostages), and the IOF's chaotic engagement with Hamas fighters on Oct. 7th and 8th that caught hostages and civilians in crossfire should be proof enough that Israel cannot and will consistently fail to provide for the security and welfare of Jewish people. It should also be proof enough that Netanyahu's government doesn't give a shit about Israeli lives unless they can be weaponized to serve his political and regional goals.
The argument that the only way for Jewish people to have safety and comfort is through a Jewish ethnostate ignores how the violence necessary to establish an ethnostate breeds extremism and a cycle of violence. It ignores how Israel consistently fails to protect and provide for its citizens, how vulnerable the Israeli state would be without US support, and how politically and numerically insecure settler-colonial populations are without ethnic and genocidal violence to reproduce their position in the social hierarchy. This argument also allows countries in the Global North to wipe their hands of their own country's antisemitism. For them, Israel is the solution to their country's "Jewish Question."
Some of Zionism's basic assumptions about Jewish people and the need for a Jewish state come from antisemitic assumptions. Advocates for a Jewish state frequently invoke antisemitic stereotypes to make their case. Like... literal fucking fascists in the US support Zionism because they want to empty their country of Jewish people and then watch them die in Israel.
The largest group of Zionists in the US are Evangelical Christians. Not just in sheer numbers, but as a percentage of their population. And you know what they believe? They believe that all Jews need to return to the Holy Land to be massacred and raptured so Jesus can return. The majority of Zionists in the US are Zonists because they're antisemitic. Their antisemitism informs their support for Zionism, and their belief in Zionism informs their antisemitism.
It boggles me how the US government, literal fascists, and Evangelicals have so many of you legitimately believing that critiquing a man and a government that throws their lot in with Holocaust deniers is antisemitic.
There are experts out there who attest that Zionism encourages and spreads antisemitism around the globe and that it is a contributing factor to increases in antisemitism in the Global North. Some have gone so far as to say it is a literal threat to the well-being of Jews worldwide and a roadblock in the fight against antisemitism.

Me: I don't know what to do with Veronica's character in post s8 au, I don't want her to be Just Lance's sister and Kuron's friend with Pidge's storyline slapped on her, but also I'm not really sure about her character. Sure there's the whole lying to her family thing but I don't think that's enough?
Brain: ok so what if Veronica started out as trying to look for what was Lance upto but she ends up being so obsessed with finding the truth that not only she repeatedly puts herself in harms way but also the original goal falls on wayside.
This could be her way of dealing with trauma which is getting engrossed in the Mission and a problem to fix while suppressing her grief and refusing to actually acknowledge her problems and her own emotions a foil to Kuron's arc that is him being literally driven by emotions. She's angry at Lance for leaving without a word and angry at her family for their clinginess, however she keeps it to herself and just avoid them pretending everything is fine and normal
Also a foil to Lance who started as trying to figure out what was going on but as soon as he realized that 1) Allura and Kuron are still sorta alive 2) he can bring them back, he got obsessed with it consequences by damned.
Plus through her we can actually explore how quintessence actually effects and changes humans rather than become aware of the end result
Also there's something a character who is obsessed with truth but is also such a frequent liar
#There's a lot more but it involves changing a lot of elements of this au and explaining half assed elements and scenes in my head#post s8 au#post s8 posting#Just realizing she's having a jon sims arc. Good for her! Atleast she won't accidentally cause an apocalypse#It is still very draft and beta and I keep changing things in it as soon as I think of something cool#I kinda want Lance to be like at first seeing him living a 'normal' life but also there's something clearly Wrong#Veronica seems to be always busy and gone and never there. Shadows and crows being weird#and a voice asking him 'Did you make right choice?' And 'Remember' and 'wake up'#only to reveal that he has been living in a fake reality and a lot of his family is dead#yk that one scene in dunmeshi where Laois digs up and stares at Falin's skull. Lance digging up a grave and be like 'Mom?'#it's representational in his own head. And Lance created this fake reality as a form of denialism#Veronica at first being standoffish not being completely honest with Kuron#Lying to Kuron and her superiors about where she had been making her sus#Kuron not knowing that Lance was the one who brought him back until much later#only that *Someone*was reaching out to him in Shiro's mind and made his body#The family is dead and Lance was living in fake reality reveal happens just as Veronica starts being honest with Kuron#Few of the family members are killed due to retaliation from an extremist galra group#A hot topic in coalition meetings which is a way for connecting Hunk!!!! To the plot!!!!!#I love you my brain!!!#Sorry this is so fucking incoherent

^ Bearer of the curse (Had to be the one to tell my therapist that some southern christians say "Daddy god" unironically)
#We've realized why I've been feeling so weird about my family being pentecostal#essentially I always joked about my family being a cult/part of a cult#it's my fun fact about myself! I escaped a cult!#makes people curious cause holy shit a cult but also wow! ur so cool! you escaped!#but it's a lot easier to make that joke when it's 'haha my family is quirky'#versus 'my family openly identifies with a group considered an extremist cult by mainstream standards'#its not a bit anymore#it's not a fun fact its like#A Real Recognized Cult#that preys on vulnerable people like my family and makes them think they're nothing without it#they get that high during the praise breaks and give a bunch of their already limited income#then go back to being miserable but saying they're joyful because the lord loves a cheerful giver#its fucked up#and it's not a bit anymore#I make it a bit with jokes like that but it's just Not#My therapist said he never met someone who grew up in that#but had seen it a couple times and thought it was Weird#So I make the same old joke about speaking in tongues sounding like gibberish#and it hits different because he doesn't get it#I made that joke with other family members who experienced it#but it's different sitting in a therapist's office walking back and forth back and forth#doing the little [ba dum ba dum badum HA] rhythm they all speak with#before the piano kicks up and people are crying screaming falling on the floor#stomping and shouting and singing#the emotional tension suffocated you and you don't know why you're crying but you are#and here I am#in my therapist's office#as he stares at me in horror and it all falls together#ex christian#religious trauma

Just rewatched Lawrence of Arabia (1962). It's rather dated now, since only one of the Arab characters is played by an actual Arab, and the portrayal of Bedouin culture is quite stereotyped. (Many Arab countries found it offensive.) But it was progressive for its time, with nuanced portrayals of individual Arabs, a critique of European imperialism, a massive subversion of the "white savior" trope, sympathetic depictions of trauma and mental illness, and a positive interracial gay relationship(!). And the writing, music, acting and cinematography are excellent.
Of course, it got me thinking about Romans again.
Or, more precisely, what I find interesting about the Romans. It's not the size or power of the empire; it's not the gleaming marble temples; it certainly isn't the violence, slavery or oppression. It's the struggle of ordinary people trying to hold onto their humanity, and making difficult moral choices, in a brutal and unfair world.
In Lawrence of Arabia we see a brave, kind and idealistic man get broken by social forces much bigger than himself. The trauma he endures, the brutal necessities of war, political maneuvering, and his loneliness and alienation as a gay man in 1916 - not only does he fail, but he does much worse things than he ever expected, losing the "moral battle" as well. Ultimately, he begs to be removed from his mission in Arabia out of horror at his own actions.
I can't help but wonder how many people in the ancient Mediterranean were in a similar position. The Roman republic, for instance, was at war almost every year of its existence, and its neighbors were similarly brutal.
I suspect judging others is a natural human instinct. But it isn't always the most informative response. I don't want merely to judge people, I want to understand why they do good or bad things. You cannot fight evil without understanding it. You can't understand someone without treating them as human. What social forces and circumstances pushed this person in this direction? What choices and opportunities were open to them? How could we make the world a little better, so this is less likely to happen again?
My interest, as a history geek, is not to excuse the Romans (or war criminals) for what they did wrong, but to understand them as people like ourselves. It's only by understanding the past that we'll be able to learn from it.

My thoughts on Anarchism
Idk if this already has a name (I looked into the terms and definitions but it's all too confusing)
I am autistic and I don't know too much about other anarchist ideologies, please be polite ^^
I wish there could be a democracy, but nobody is in charge, like everyone meets together, vote, and then make a mutual agreement to not fuck around. Just trade and get your own shit, and if some little shithead happens to be roaming, project karma onto them.
Like not laws, but everyone just makes their own rules and defends what they do. No power or leaders, just people being equal humans and doing what they do.
What do you guys think about this?
