Carry on Countdown Day 4 - Cake
Look at me being literal. And wrestling with fondant. Is that a hippo or a dragon? Who knows? Haven't done that in years, but I had fun and the cake was delicious, so that's a win !
And anyway, who doesn't want chocolate cake ?

Book Review : Fake It Till You Bake It - Jamie Wesley
Love as sweet as cupcakes !
Okay so this isn't my usual type of reads, because I don't tend much towards romance book. But I wanted to try a new genre for once, and something a bit light to lift my spirits. And so I gave it a go.
This story has everything you would expect from a romance book : strong pining at first, fake dating, and then cute stuff all around. The guy is a hot football player who also happens to bake and be a businessman (what's not to like ?) and the girl is a new adult trying to find her place in the world and unlearn her terrible education.
Tumblr media
It was sweet and quite an easy read. Though I have to say a bit "cliché" and not much suspens, but again, isn't that what we're looking for when reading romance ? Some repetitions here and there but overall a fluid, nice writing style.
The characters develop as we expect them to, and find - not just love - but also themselves. Cheesy and cute. Reminded me of christmas movies, except it's set in California.
What about you ? What have you been reading lately ?

~Thanks to Netgalley for providing a digital ARC of Fake It Till You Bake It in exchange for an honest review. ~
Okay, so this was a good month for fake dating books because I also liked how this book handled the trope! That being said though, this wasn’t as great as I was hoping.
I love a good cooking setting romance, but the pacing of this was all over the place and the plot was... weird.
This started off strong, with a meet-ugly between Jada and Donovan. Initially, I really was thinking Donovan would be my preferred POV, but Jada ended up growing on me. She felt very personable and I could certainly relate to her speaking before you think issue as well as her fear of failure and disappointing her loved ones. The message about how women are portrayed in media was well done and the handling of her dyslexia was as well. I think overall, Jada had a strong character arc and was probably the most well-written character in the book. On the other hand, Donovan was charming in the beginning but I felt as though his personality slowly waned as the book progressed. And god, the possessiveness that comes out of nowhere and was so unwarranted! On top of that, his side plot felt very low stakes given that he could lose his company.
The attraction between these two was instant, but I didn’t feel like there was enough chemistry to back it up. They bickered a lot (sometimes sounding more like teenagers than adults) and only had a few serious conversations where I felt that a relationship was actually blossoming. Two chili peppers for the smut scene.
Side characters should have been more built up by the end, especially if there is going to be a sequel, and the last-minute conflict was so unnecessary. It lasted a single chapter. And then, of course, the required couple drama that also lasted a chapter. Why can’t we, as a book community, move past this? Instead of making them break up for a single chapter (that apparently was a three-month period?), the last-minute conflict could have been stretched out and the couple could have worked together to find a solution! In the process, they could see how committed they are and what they truly mean to one another! That would have been much more interesting.
I think this was an easy, quick romance read, but unfortunately, didn’t stand out.
3 / 5 stars

Fake It Till You Bake It
Fake It Till You Bake It by Jamie Wesley satisfies your sweet tooth with a reality tv star/ cupcake shop owner relationship that leaves you wanting more. Jada is fresh out of a reality dating show that left her with legions of fans who blame her for rejecting the bachelor’s proposal. She has never found something she wants to do with her life, so when her grandmother offers her a deal to gain control of her inheritance early if she works at one place for six months, she says yes. Even though she recently insulted the owner of the cupcake shop she is set to work at. As a professional football player, Donovan knows he needs his passion for baking to turn into a successful business if he wants to have something to build on when he leaves the field. He is analytical, even-tempered, and risk-averse, but opening Sugar Blitz with two fellow teammates and friends is a risk he was willing to make. Donovan has also agreed to hire Jeda as a favor to her grandmother and the owner of his team, but he never expected to find himself in a fake dating scenario with her. Reporters love Jeda a lot more now that she is in a new relationship, and the struggling cupcake shop is finally getting the steady traffic it needs to stay afloat. Adding love to the recipe threatens to change both their lives, but they cannot say no to something so sweet.
Cupcakes, reality tv show dating drama, football players, and fun event planning all come together in a near-perfect culinary romance. I think Sugar Blitz is a perfect store. I cared about what flavors they had on their menu, their employees, their regulars, and even the development of the decorations. Sometimes the businesses or shops in romances serve as a functional, but bland backdrop to the romance at the center of the novel. I never felt that way about this cupcake shop and let me tell you I am already invested in who the other owners fall for.
I completely bought into Jamie and Donovan’s whirlwind relationship. They fall for each other the moment she steps in the door. The romance is more animosity-to-lovers than enemies-to-lovers, but I was still here for it. Jamie and Donovan quickly move past the light arguing to mutual respect to a fake dating scenario to real dating. Jamie supports Donovan’s efforts at the shop and is there for him when he explains his struggle to feel financially stable in adulthood after a childhood with a parent who has a gambling addiction. Donovan also works to help Jamie feel confident that her work is enough and she is enough after growing up with parents who saw her dyslexia as a problem. I will always root for a relationship that feels like a partnership and their chemistry was just icing on the cupcake.
Fake It Till You Bake It by Jamie Wesley fills a lot of different needs so if you are looking for a celebrity romance, a sports romance, a culinary romance, or a black romance book this could be the book for you.

Fake It Till You Bake It
Title: Fake It Till You Bake It Author: Jamie Wesley Date Finished: June 19, 2022 Book Publication Date: June 20, 2022 Goodreads Links: [Book] [Review]
Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
[Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for providing this ARC to me in exchange for an honest review.]
Review:
Fake dating is one of those tropes that never feels old to me. It's intriguing to see a pair/group of people land up on faking a date as the best viable solution to their problem, especially when it's because the characters panic.
In the case of this book, fake anything can lead to a storm that obliterates everything in its path.
Jada Townsend-Matthews is a social media pariah. Everyone hates her for rejecting the fan favourite bachelor publicly, on a reality TV show, and she can't turn two steps without being recognized for it. San Diego seems like a good bet to lie low for a while, but as usual, she has no idea how wrong she is.
Baking and football are the two things Donovan Dell invests his energy in. He's no-nonsense, likes to have a plan for everything, and has a ten step idea of what his future is going to look like. Unfortunately, that future is put into jeopardy when his cupcake business starts to decline in sales and popularity, and further so when Jada crashes into his life.
She comes into Sugar Blitz as a critic of his cupcakes, but stays as the newest employee...and later, his very public, very fake girlfriend.
Jada's desperate to give some backing to the story she spun with the showrunners about why she, who was top contender for marrying the most sought-after bachelor, rejected him - she told them that she had someone at home.
When faced with her lies, she's more than a little desperate, and one impulsive move on her part sends her and Donovan on a whirlwind of fake dating that ends up benefitting both of them, but also ends up balancing each other out.
That was one of the things I loved most about these protagonists - they were very clearly opposites, but instead of feeling that they're out of each other's leagues, or that they don't even belong in the same circles, you end up seeing a balance struck between them. Jada draws Donovan out of his shell without shoving him alone into the unknown, and Donovan patiently centers her without suffocating her. And I love that you don't end up seeing them leaving the other in the dust - even when they're not obliged to be there, they are!
With the way the whole conflict and antagonist were hyped, I expected the resolution to give us a little more excitement. All the strings were wrapped up, but it felt a little rushed to me. Maybe it's the drama-chasing personality in me, but the ending felt flat to me.
Still, this was a very cute read, and I do think that the author has left just enough strings for another book...perhaps starring a certain stoic side character...?

A Week of Romance
A Week of Romance
Dear Fellow Reader, Sigh…. It has been a while again. I swear that I will keep this up and then life gets in the way. Since I wrote last, we have moved into Spring and almost Summer. But since I am sitting here in a sweatshirt and slippers, it certainly isn’t Summer today. I still need to get the hang of audiobooks. I have listened to a couple but so far I haven’t been sold on them. I…

From Goodreads:
A reality star and a cupcake-baking football player pretend to be a couple in order to save his bakery in this sweet and sexy romance from Jamie Wesley, Fake It Till You Bake It. Jada Townsend-Matthews is the most reviled woman in America after turning down a proposal on a reality dating show. When she comes home to lick her wounds, Jada finds herself working at San Diego's newest cupcake bakery, Sugar Blitz, alongside the uptight owner and professional football player Donovan Dell. When a reporter mistakenly believes Jada and Donovan are an item, they realize they can use the misunderstanding to their advantage to help the struggling bakery and rehabilitate Jada's image. Faking a relationship should be simple, but sometimes love is the most unexpected ingredient. Fake it Till You Bake It is a sweet confection of a novel, the perfect story to curl up with and enjoy with a cupcake on the side.

me after attempting to get back into sims and realizing i had a lot more to do than play the game
#hi everyone#I’m going around hugging you all#okay now that we are gathered here today#i will simply acknowledge that i have been gone for a very long time and then also acknowledge that maybe it was for the best#i relied on sims to be my only creative activity even if i tried to write a book at the same time#and also. i prioritized sims over real life responsibilities. that’s just a deadly combination lol#but I recently noticed I just replaced sims with Netflix. with YouTube. with anything that gave me quick dopamine#literally became addicted in a sense. still am but I’ve been cut cold turkey from most everything#I get off work and go. okay I’ve done the dishes and the laundry……..I could read or write or bake….#I try to write and sometimes i get a good hour#then I read for a few hours and then get tired of it#and I made cookies Tuesday so I’m waiting for those to be gone before baking again#I’m just so pitiful that I feel BORED and don’t know what to do#so I said….. okay what if I do sims for an hour.#I downloaded some new cc Tuesday and tried to play yesterday#y’all ……………….. I can’t find the energy anymore to set up elaborate scenes and pose my sims and plan posts#I said wow… this is boring without my intervention and fake story#I said wow…….. all this for what? for tumblr? yes I created cool things and provided joy. but is that inherintly important compared to my#own joy? my own everyday activities I should be doing?#y’all I do not leave the house unless we got out to eat or shop or travel to our parents#.. I have little desire to. I’m trying to find that desire#but my husband is busy with grad school and work and I don’t want to do anything by myself#I’ve found myself in one heck of a slump#I didn’t want to be human for awhile. just had no desires no interests no ambitions#I was slacking off SO HARD at work. I just had no drive to do well#I’m still working on it. I’m still trying to get caught up. I’m still trying to force myself to move every day.#but I am struggling y’all. and I can tell you that sims… sims isn’t helping rn but I want it to so bad. I want to get back into it#I didn’t mean to disappear on everyone. I got married and then life got busy and then I fell into this hole of nothing#I didn’t even WANT to crawl my way out. but my husband has helped a lot. I feel like such a child!!!!#I reached max tags. 🙃 bye love you all. till next time

“Looking for loaves, loves, and laughter? Do I have the books for you! Culinary romances feed the stomach and soul with their delicious mix of hot food and even hotter relationships. You come to them to read about the trials and tribulations of the restaurant industry. From opening bakeries and restaurants to maintaining them, making money and food is objectively hard. Add in the complications of celebrity chefs, reality baking competitions, and other famous employees and you have a blend of messy but delectable romances. After all, food is the gateway to the soul.
Now, culinary romances are not a new invention. I have, however, noticed an uptick in the number of culinary romances published, and I am not alone. Bettina Makalintal’s Eater article even noted, “Move over, bodice rippers. It’s all about apron tuggers now.” I cannot argue with her point that there are more and more culinary romances hitting the shelves, and many of them are queer or racially diverse.
Culinary romances give authors the ability to showcase food culture and the ways food is sold to the public. From celebrity chefs, to cooking contestants, to chefs that run businesses, part of a character’s success relies on the way they market themselves and their food to their intended customers or audience. Then throw cultural identities and work-love life balance into the mix and you have yourself a compelling romance. Given the size of the sub-genre, I only included a selection that are sure to leave you hungry for more.”

When they lost her
Tumblr media
2023 formula one grid & female!driver!reader
Warnings - Death, crying, car crash
Summary - After a horrible accident on track, the other drivers have to learn to cope with the death of someone very dear to all
Part 2
-
Y/n was always a joy to be around, always had a smile on her face, curious about how you are and would never fail to make someone laugh. Aside from her warm hearted attitude, she was also well known for being a incredible driver.
That morning, Y/n had brought in a selection of homemade baked goods to share amongst the drivers and the staff. Everyone extremely thankful for the goodies.
Only a few hours before, the driver was seen doing a wholesome interview with the fellow sky sport commentator, Martin Brundle.
“Martin! Hey do you want some cookies?” The women ran over to Martin who was flabbergasted by the girls upbeat attitude even though she had an intense race later that day.
“Oh thank you so much, now Y/n tell me how can you be this happy even though you have a fierce race today?” It was something many fans and viewers were keen to know, jealous of her calmness.
“Well in all honesty Martin, I am absolutely terrified. However, one quote that stuck with me in my 20 years of life is fake it till you make it! So that’s what I do” Y/n’s voice was sincere. “Well I got to deliver the rest of these before all the boring serious stuff begins so bye bye Martin and bye bye my loyal viewers!”
Waving goodbye to the camera, the girl ran off to find more people to share her delightful treats with.
-
“Radio check please” Y/n’s race engineers voice came through her ear piece, awaiting her reply.
“I’m a Barbie girl in world! Life in plastic, it’s fantastic” Her singing could be heard from the radio, alerting the engineer of her connection.
She sat snug in the sport car, eager to start the race. To left was one of her favourite British man, Lando, racing for McLaren. She raised her hand up waving in his direction, which he happily replicated.
It was long until the five red lights flashed off and the cars started down the track.
-
After about 20 laps of the track, it had started to heavily pouring rain. This was something that started to worry the female.
Soon enough the track had grown incredibly slippery, yet they were told to carry on with the race.
Only then did Y/n’s anxiety grew massive. Try to calm herself down, she had lost some focus on the race in general. This had caused her lose control over her car.
Spinning off track, the car had flipped over. The racing car landed on the ground completely flipped over. This had crushed Y/n inside with no way of escaping.
This also knocking the women unconscious.
-
Immediately the other drivers were instructed to return to their garages until they were given the all clear.
Upon hearing about the accident everyone had grown increasingly concerned with the lack of contact on the females part.
It wasn’t long before medics were sent out to Y/n. A curtain was pulled across the car, providing privacy.
“It seem that Y/n’s car as been covered with a curtain, whilst the rest of the drivers have been told to return to their pits” Martins voice was somber, he had his worries for the girl who never failed to brighten up his grid walks.
-
“Lewis, we have a red flag please return”
“Lando, red flag. You need to return to pit”
“Carlos, please return to pit. It’s a red flag”
All the remaining drivers had gotten the news off their engineers. Compliant, everyone made their individual ways to the pits.
“What is going on?! Where’s Y/n?!” Charles had anxiety pumping through his veins, making his way to her pit.
It was fair to say that all the drivers shared the same concerns for the young wholesome driver. She was their little sister, most had seen Y/n grow into the grown women she is today.
-
The medical team had made their way over to the flipped car, starting immediately to try and get the driver to safety.
They had pulled her unconscious body from the car. Laying her down on the ground, rushing to check her pulse.
Checking her neck. Nothing
Checking her wrists. Nothing
They had checked three times and each time receiving no pulse.
“No pulse…she’s gone” The solemn voice of a medic could be heard in the garage. By then, all the drivers and engineers were gathered around the main radio, everything fell silent at the short announcement.
Charles felt tears fall down his cheeks, his chéri was gone. To his left, you could see Lando’s face of surprise and sorrow, he had just lost his bestfriend.
That day all the teams joined together to grieve the death of the paddocks little sister. Fans paid their respects to Y/n’s family on social media.
Since that day, the paddock no longer felt the same warmth that she brought even on her harder days, it was something that was lost when they lost her.
