I find people who say they want Childe to be "just some guy" really funny. If you even took a second to look at his lore, you would now he's not "just some guy", he's anything but that.

From the lore we have, we know that Childe caught the eye of the abyss and was swallowed by it and taken to the deepest and darkest part of it where he saw the endless possibilities of another knigdom. His presence woke up a primordial beast from its slumber, and it left its traces on him. He was trained by a "sinner" (Skirk). He has an abyssal transformation (Foul Legacy). He knows how to weild every weapon (except the bow, which he is learning right now). He is the only person we know of who experienced a time dilation while in the abyss. He beat multiple fatui men who were far older than him at 14. He became the youngest harbinger. He killed dragons. He's also the only playable character who doesn't have a vision story.

All of the things I have listed expect the primordial beast lore, is lore which we have known since he was released. The funnier thing is this just the surface of his lore. We only have just recently in Fontaine have started diving deeper into his lore. There's still so much more we need to know about him, theres still so many unanswered questions regarding him.

It’s so alright to have differing opinions in the fandom. It’s bound to happen and that’s totally normal. There will be takes you see that piss you off. There will be takes you straight up hate and it bothers you. That’s fine it’s what happens when everyone views things differently. What’s not alright is to be upset to the point where you send extreme hate to those people you disagree with. I’ve never once sent a hateful message especially on anonymous to someone I’ve disagreed with. It’s alright to keep scrolling, unfollow, block people if that’ll make you happier. But please refrain from sending people hate messages. You don’t know what someone is going through. You don’t know what battles they’re facing day in and day out. We’re discussing fictional people and please consider that the people on here are actual human beings before you send something vile to them. It’s a show and I understand being compassionate but it’s not worth being a vile person and spewing hate to someone just because you disagree with them. Please be kind to others, you don’t know what they’re going through. Sending everyone so much love and patience 💜

You know what I like to do with my boyfriend? Stay in a romantic suite with his friend and his gf. One of the perks of dating incredibly successful, rich men is def the accompanying roomies! Bonus girl time when they are filming and editing their tiktoks. That is romance.

And yes, I am an incredibly famous man in a secret gay relationship with my equally famous best friend. We also work together! We've been spending time together for over a decade. But I wouldn't mention his name because that would be exposing ourselves. Silly me. When Tae breezed into Inkigayo and JK pouted "where were you?" what he really meant was "WHY ARE YOU HERE?!"

Sure. They spend a lot of time together. And sure JK loves to sing. And yes, for that song in particular. But it didn't really mean anything. He was just singing it *gestures* around the area of Tae who happened to overhear it and misrepresent it. Because you know, who would know better what's going down than a random nameless "fan".

Because really, the most googled K-pop star on the planet, who has global luxury brands fighting over him and critical and public acclaim for his debut album which is a departure from everything he's already famous for, he is mentioning his name because he *checks notes* lacks attention.

I bet JK is very upset by all this behavior. I bet every time they walk shoulder to shoulder, quietly performing their little skit, all the way to their shared car, it's really underscored with unspoken rage. I'm sure they had a very stern conversation when they were tits out on facetime.

Man, if only JK had some of these anons in his life defending him from all this bogus behavior. I'm sure one day, your tumblr advocacy will free him. Keep speaking truth anons!

OFMD Critique: Bad Faith, Fandom, and Respect

All right. You know what? Screw it. I saw one post I just cannot ignore anymore that encapsulated all of my problems with the fandom right now. Personal rant incoming.

I understand that there's a nuance to the discussion of season 2 of Our Flag Means Death, and that there are people going a little too far with both their critiques and their support of the show. But oh my God, I'm tired of being straw-manned and made fun of for legitimate critiques of the show.

I just used the block button on someone in this fandom for the first time. Some of you might think I'm overreacting for this, but I saw a post that I could not on any level stand. This person, who I will not name names of, because I'd rather just block them and never deal with their level of bad faith again, took their one legitimate criticism of those of us who critique the show, the back and forth on whether or not Izzy's death was homophobic or not, and used it as the first in a literal list of straw man critiques that no one I've read in the OFMD Critical tag has made (and I check it like once a day bc I like reading meta, sorry), proceeding to absolutely make fun of the legitimate critiques that people have of the show, parodying them in the worst possible ways. They took our legitimate critiques about everything from the sexist handling Zheng Yi Sao's character, the absolute ableism of the finale, the questionable optics of the handling of trauma, etc. and stretched them into things that they very much were not (two examples were that we were crying ableism bc of something to do with seagulls and that we thought the problem in the Stede&Zheng dynamic was the "emotional labor" involved).

Now I'm pretty sure this post was a joke. I *think* it was a joke. But how in the world am I supposed to feel comfortable in the main section of a fandom like this when the comments and replies to this post were full of people agreeing sincerely that this is what the critical section of the fandom is like? How am I supposed to feel when I just see people making fun of me for my analysis of the show? I love this show. I adore season 1 and I'm clearly still making fan related content (moodboards) for season 2 along with my critiques.

Sure, I vibe way more with fanfiction than the actual canon at this point, but I still genuinely engage with the show. And to have the critiques that I made in good faith, regarding issues that I sincerely care about such as ableism, sexism, homophobia, and the handling of trauma, made fun of and taken out of context and straw-manned to their extreme, makes me feel so absolutely unwelcome in this fandom.

Other than keeping up with the couple of fan series that I'm currently still reading, I don't know if I can stay in this fandom any longer. I can't say that I'm excited for the new season if this is the kind of response that any good faith critique of the show is going to get. I can't say that I feel safe or comfortable when there are this many people ready to dog pile on me for a critique I made with ACTUAL TEXTUAL EVIDENCE to back it up.

I would like to thank all the people who have been making excellent critiques of the show. Their meta-analysis is what got me into making my own critiques, which I was nervous about making in any other fandom. I don't think I've in any way tagged them all, but just a few I can remember off the top of my head. Go read their critiques/meta- it's really good!

And from the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has engaged with my mood boards or my critiques or anything else that I've made, as well as the amazing writers and artists in this fandom (such as @ruecrown, @aletterinthenameofsanity, @fool-for-luv, and @possumsmushroom). You guys have kept me going with my love for the show and engaging with it for a while now. Despite the stuff that is making me take a step back now, I really did love this while it lasted! I'm still planning on making a few more mood boards, but other than that, I'm going to take a step back from engaging.

Hope this post can spread enough support/joy your way to counteract the ache I'm currently feeling!

Todays thinky thought: the Soldier first class fan clubs

I've got to be honest I need more fan fics where the fan clubs are hard at work with fan art, fics and edits. And look I know Crisis Core is set in the very early 2000 and thus the internet (if we are super imposing actual historical timelines over FFVII timelines) would be in its very early infancy at this point come on man.

Give me Cloud being aware of, and participating in, the fandom;

give me Genesis moogling himself out of morbid curiosity and getting weirdly misha collins level invested in the fan fictions written about him.

Give me Angeal being shown mildly explicit fan art of himself on a talk show and going so red the host is worried he'll pass out.

Give me zack having secret social media accounts to lurk in his own fandom and to collect black mail content for the other firsts.

Give me Sephiroth being blissfully unaware of how unhinged the silver elite are about him until he meets cloud who is all like "oh you sweet summer child"

Give me Genesis and Zack live tweeting Clouds dramatic reading of a fandom wide notorious Y/N x Sephiroth fic that had both Sephiroth and Angeal curled up in agonising embarresment while Gen is pissing himself laughing and Zack has fallen off the chair after snorting beer through his nose.

Give me Clouds social Media then blowing up and him becoming internet famous as the "normal guy that hangs around with the trinity elite and Zack fair". He gets so many questions and while he respects the boys privacy he does get them to answer some of the less prying ones.

Give me Hojo trying to sue a really popular fanfiction site for copy right infringment on the Sephiroth trademark and Sephiroth himself shutting Hojo down.

Give me Genesis being asked to talk at a convention and him getting so much fan art and gifts they have to hire a van to pack it into.

Give me Zack doing a running commentary on some of the footage edits on youtube that he has seen and likes. "dude that one with sick beat behind it was so well editted I'm gunna have to do more acrobatic stunts for you guys!"

Just give me all of it!

Hyperfixating on Star Wars is such a broad thing… like, when you say that, you could be obsessed with the blonde guy that kissed his sister, or of a bounty hunter that ends up adopting one of his bounties and becomes a father, or it could be copy and pasted men with tattoos, or copy and pasted men that were changed just enough to avoid plagiarism, or it could be one specific guy that doesn’t even get screentime and was only ever in the books, or one of those copy and pasted men that died two minutes after their first line, or maybe a group of rebels that just wanted to fuck with the empire but ended up liberating an entire planet! Oh, and if you guess it wrong, you could risk the wrath of an angry fan, or a very confused fan that’s never heard of the character/era/show. I mean honestly everyone show/movie for Star Wars could have its own fandom that barely notices the others.

Anyways I don’t think I’ve ever reblogged more posts in a fandom than I have for The Bad Batch. I’m really glad to actually be watching Star Wars when I’m old enough to really understand it and the quality of shows :)

korea is such an insanely homophobic country and if idols were found out to be gay that would be the end of their career in half a second. i feel like if tae and jk were actually together they’d be trying to hide it MUCH more bc of how dangerous it is. the dream premier? the matching kappa tshirts? taehyung telling everyone how jk sings a romantic song for him? those things are so incriminating i don’t think they would put themselves at such a risk of exposure if they rlly were in a relationship. like yes they have done things that would cover up their relationship like the taennie pr stunt and jk’s straightification through his solo projects but idk i feel like if they were rlly together they would be trying to hide it so desperately, not doing anything at all that could be deemed as suspicious.

Well.. they have hidden it a great deal more than they do now.. so much so that a huge part of army thinks they have been distant and awkward and some even think they aren’t friends even now. It’s only since a couple of years that they have moved on from that.. and to me that is mostly a sign of them having matured and settled and Hybe/Bh feeling more at ease with it because of that.

Heteronormativity is a thing. Especially in a country like SK, people are still so set in seeing heterosexuality as the default, for some it doesn’t even cross their minds that anyone can be queer. I know our fandom screams about them being obvious at times, but they’re really not. Not everyone keeps track of them as intensely as out fandom does, and a lot of times the things that do get noticed get the stamp ‘fanservice’ or ‘skinship’ or ‘bro’s’.

For a lot of people Taennie was certainly enough to settle into straight Tae and Jk.
