Day 11: Breakup That Should've Stayed Broken Up
Yeon Seok and Jeong Ha Yeon from First Love Again. I know they were soulmates but for like 75% of the series Writer Yeon Seok treated my sweet Ha Yeon like garbage. He acted like it was Ha Yeon's fault that he was born a boy instead of a woman this lifetime. I know Yeon Seok was coming to terms with everything, but Ha Yeon was still the Ha Yeon he knew (proven throughout the series) and he didn't deserve to be yelled at and ignored and bullied. AND THEN YEON SEOK HAD THE NERVE TO BE JEALOUS when another man came along. Also don't even get me started on Yeon Seok chasing down an already crying Ha Yeon, kissing him, and then saying it was a mistake. It seemed like being soulmates wasn't enough for Yeon Seok for the first 6 eps of an 8 ep series. Not to mention it was his last chance at getting Ha Yeon back and he was fumbling left and right. AND HA YEON WAS JUST THE CUTEST AND SWEETEST FUCKING NUGGET AND YEON SEOK DIDN'T DESERVE HIM!
That being said...I still enjoyed this series a lot, but it couldn't have been me. Ha Yeon better than me, I would've told Yeon Seok to kick rocks. Had that sweet boy crying through most of the series.
Honorable mentions to the step brothers in History 4 and also the main couple from Love Syndrome. No I don't know their names.

#31: First Love Again
✨Spoilers!✨
Oh, this was wonderful. The story was so interesting, the idea of realizing that the woman you fell in love with twice in your past lives already was a man this time. In my opinion, Yeon Seok's "gay panic" was fantastically played and written - and also understandable. After all, in this life, his last life, he worked towards one goal: finding Ha Yeon and making sure he spent his life with her. So, to find out that SHE was actually a HE this time... Understandable panic.
Though I do admit that I wished that both Yeon Seok's & Ha Yeon's background was a little more fleshed out. Especially Ha Yeon's because his issues - especially the thing with his apparently rather controlling father - were only hinted at. I wished the last part was a bit longer, that the drama was 8 episodes instead of 6 and that we were given more about Ha Yeon.
And since we weren't, I couldn't help but side with Yeon Seok after the Big Reveal(TM). Because I didn't understand what was so terrible about his actions. And the fact that Ha Yeon ran and refused to listen to Yeon Seok and yet, he expected Yeon Seok to KEEP running after him and to KEEP trying to explain... That irked me. Because Ha Yeon accepted that no meant no, that Ha Yeon didn't want to be with him and didn't want to ever see him again. He accepted and respected it because he blamed himself for Ha Yeon's pain, so...
Overall, a really good and for its genre original story that deserved more time and space.
Rating: 8/10

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)
So, I did not like this drama. I can not find a single thing that I actually enjoyed - had it been longer than it was, I would have stopped watching.
The story itself... I have no words. I get that it is a shorter drama and all, but it is so rushed. We barely get to see the main couple spend any meaningful time together, and are just expected to accept that they go from nothing to love without ever showing them developing feelings for each other.
I don't like any of the characters - they feel hollow, shallow, and just generally unlikable. The actors fought with everything they had, but even they couldn't save the writing in this drama.
Why is it so hard to make a good story about two cute boys falling in love without making it overly complicated and gimmicky?
Yeah, that's about all I have to say.

revisiting crassus, clodius, and the bona dea scandal! but this time with a new composition and a limited color palette
originally when I drew the first version of this idea, it was back when I thought that crassus would be a week long fixation at most (lmao), and instead he just. took up permanent residence in my mind. it seemed like a fun thing to go back to an earlier idea and see what changed now that I've spent a lot more time with everyone involved in this era!
also the way these two interlocked politically. I am. biting into it.
The Defeat of Rome: Crassus, Carrhae and the Invasion of the East, Gareth C. Sampson
Crassus: the First Tycoon, Peter Stothard

2022 BL ROUNDUP PART 2
Hey y'all, I've seen everyone doing their top 22, 20, 15, 10, and 5 BLs of the year and I didn't want to do a ranking! I just want to do a quick rundown of everything I watched and how I feel about it now! This is gonna be multiple posts! But I'll post them all at the same time.
BL Series I've watched from South Korea in 2022
Kissable Lips. I loved the series. Yea it had a sad ending, but it was the only Vampire BL I've ever seen. I think it suffered from the curse of S. Korea's standard BL runtime. If it were longer I think it would've been better and more fleshed out. Jiwoong and Seobin had excellent chemistry and even though the ending was sad, I enjoyed the overall tone of the series. True love turned out to be very selfless and partially self destructing.
Semantic Error. Came out at the beginning of the year and still one of the highest ranking Korean BLs of 2022. It was the standard opposites-attract-enemies-to-lovers trope main pairing but it didn't feel cliche. The digital components added to the aesthetics made it feel almost interactive and I loved all the characters. Male kpop idols play both leads and their chemistry was INSANE! They've been winning awards for the series all year.
First Love Again. It was an interesting take on soulmates and reincarnation. 300 years of waiting for your girl to return only for her to be born male and also let's throw in a sister that has the same face of the woman from the past. I think overall I enjoyed the series, the mains did have great chemistry, but one of them was ridiculously mean to the other while he figured out his crisis of suddenly being in love with a man.
Blueming. 10/10. The best Korean BL I've watched all year. It was a coming of age type of story. It was one of the few series I've seen that actually highlights the major the kids were studying in uni. The mains had superb chemistry and the communication between them felt refreshing. It wasn't over the top, it was just a very lowkey and laid back romance.
Cherry Blossoms After Winter. It was really interesting. The bullying in the series was insane and made me feel very violent towards high school kids. There was also the hint of a step-brother sort of vibe but it was clear that the mains never felt like "brothers" even though they were raised together in the same household. It was just a very interesting take on how childhood trauma can manifest into adulthood and also how bad bullying can get for people and also how to approach being in love with someone you've known your entire life.
Ocean Likes Me. It was cute. Not the best and not the worst. Holland made his debut with the series and I really loved his snappy and flamboyant character. I think he and Gi Chan had great chemistry, but the plot was a little 'meh'. I think if the series were longer it would've been better and more memorable.
To My Star 2. The reviews have been mixed for this series and I get it, but I personally enjoyed it. The angst was very angsty. They had me crying. It was a great depiction of how people act after they breakup but are still very much in love with each other. One likes to put distance between them and the other refuses to go away without a real explanation. I think people thought Ji Woo's character was ruined, but I think the way he acted was very much in character. I think people were expecting honeymoon but we got heartbreak lol. I heard a s3 has been discussed.
Roommates of Poongduck 304. Jiwoong and Seobin's 2nd chance at main leads together. It was completely different from their first series. The chemistry was still amazing, but this series was more comedy and conflict than anything else. Highkey didn't even care about the plot (it was a good plot though), I was vibing on chemistry alone with this series. Jiwoong and Seobin are just magical together.

I love how Tubbo decided it would be funny to be a pot stirrer and wanted to cause drama and not only completely failed but his friends took it as an opportunity to show how much they care about him and love him. They weren't upset; they took a pause from everything to make sure he was okay and try to help him. Fit and Pac didn't mind pausing their first date for Tubbo even when he was trying to sabotage it. Bagi was used to get in the way of the date, and instead of getting angry, she tried to push him to talk about Fred. They all love Tubbo so much, and he was so scared of losing that love that he couldn't even see it.
