A large part of the public and the fandom affirm that Flapjack was Evelyn's palisman or was carved by her as a gift to Caleb, but really, those deductions are not solidly based or well argued. Dana's latest statements do NOT confirm that Flapjack belonged to Evelyn, she just states that Evelyn's spirit was NOT in Flapjack but Belos saw it as the culmination of his brother's corruption.

In Hollow Mind, inside Philip's mind we can appreciate paintings that frame his most important memories, and Caleb is present in all of them. There is one in particular in which Caleb is carving the characteristic mask that Philip would later adopt when changing his identity to Belos. But so what? Well, both the writers and animators don't put random details, rather they put them because they are important to a great extent, and they are worth noting, so the fact that they put Caleb carving the mask was not by chance, but because the painting itself is confirming that Caleb, from an early age, was a woodcarver. It can easily be deduced that Caleb was in fact likely to have started the Clawthorne tradition of palisman carving, rather than the other way around.

Caleb is depicted as a carver from a young age.

Hunter's wish was to carve out his own future, a wish that prompts Flapjack to join immediately. I highly doubt that a young witch who was able to travel between two realms would have so many conflicts for her future.

Now let's think about Caleb's future as an orphan who had to abandon his childhood to raise his younger brother, in a puritanical society in which absolute perfection was demanded of man. The ultimate goal of the Puritan community was to maintain moral purity in all areas of life. The Puritans held that God was the highest authority on any subject of the human being. Only divine grace had the ability to change people, who had to live according to God's precepts as thanks to his mercy. In this way, they thought that they fulfilled what God wanted from the human being and, therefore, they would access Paradise, since God had great plans for those who followed him. Doesn't look familiar? Flapjack's connection to Hunter must have antecedents regarding the desire that brought them together: Hunter wanted to have enough freedom to be able to choose his future for himself without any higher entity, family or society telling him what to do. And that surely was Caleb's wish; freedom, choice and criteria.

In some illustrations of the brothers, already as adults, Flapjack is present on Caleb's shoulder. If he were Evelyn's palisman, despite how close he could be to his owner's partner, it wouldn't make sense for him to be in the human world, it's as if they represented Luz and Ghost together, much less, that he was was so familiar with the house that it belonged to Caleb and Philip.

Many began to theorize that Flapjack belonged to Evelyn or that she had carved it as a gift for Caleb due to the Wagon Ride in Thanks To Them, in which in the intro, a bird that is obviously Flapjack appears surrounded by fire in the hand of Evelyn attracting Caleb. Such an act could be perceived as symbolic, since the Hollow Mind paintings show that Flapjack was not present at the meeting between the brothers and the witch, and we all know that Philip would not have overlooked such a detail important like that. What is a symbolism? The different forms of expression that use symbols to represent ideas and facts are known as symbolism. Symbolism is the idea that some things represent others. What we mean by that is that we can think of something, say, the color red, and conclude that it does not represent the color red itself, but something beyond it: say, passion, love, or devotion. Flapjack is a red cardinal and represents all of those symbolism for Hunter.

But it can also be associated with anger, aggressiveness, revenge and blood. The series usually handles a lot of color symbolism.

I could give an example of the symbolism of the forbidden fruit and the serpent presented in the story of Adam and Eve. The serpent tricks Eve so that she and Adam eat the forbidden fruit which, according to tradition, is an apple. This act is universally known as "original sin." As a result of their disobedience, the first human beings are expelled by God from Paradise. The supposed apple represents the "knowledge of good and evil". Specifically, having their own ideas about what is “good” and what is “bad” instead of relying on God's wisdom and moral law. The snake represents the human desire to investigate and understand the unknown; our curious nature tempted Eve to seek the forbidden fruit to find her own answers.

Dana is well known for putting, or wanting to put, religion-related references, and was apparently inspired by the fables of Adam and Eve for the story between Caleb and Evelyn, and Cain and Abel for Philip and Caleb. Evelyn fills the role of the apple, magic the snake and Flapjack the result of Caleb giving in to temptation. In the story of Cain and Abel; Cain kills his brother because he did not know how to control his jealousy when he saw that God appreciated Abel's offerings over his own. This can be understood, adapting to the mythology of the Islands, that Caleb pleased the Titan by learning and adapting to magic, and Philip kills him out of jealousy when he sees his brother being happy with magic, with Evelyn, with flapjack.

If Flapjack were Evelyn's palisman; he wouldn't have left after Caleb's death. Palismans seem to be passed down from generation to generation, and the only way they stand alone is because either their owners died, or they were abandoned. If Flapjack was Evelyn's palisman, and she only lived with Caleb, she wouldn't have gone off with the Bat Queen. We could explore and get to Dell's palisman, which is a yellow cardinal, similar to Flapjack, and which is surely Evelyn's real palisman, which was inherited until it was left with Dell. I don't think it was carved after Flapjack's disappearance and Caleb's death, because he also has a scar, and that may mean he was and participated in the conflict.

Flapjack is not attached to Eda, despite the fact that the series has made clear his similarities with Evelyn. Flapjack had seen her before Hunter, and even so, it didn't occur to him to go with her, nor with Luz, who was her companion. But he did seem to know the Clawthorne family and trust them enough, therefore, Eda. I gather that because she had no problem pushing Hunter out of the way at Eclipse Lake and calling on her when Hunter disappeared. He knew Evelyn, surely he loved her, but his behavior with Eda shows that he did not own her.

Caleb represents change and the desire for freedom, reasons why he was killed, certainly. Birds may be the symbol of the Clawthorne family thanks to Caleb, and it would be poetic symbolism. A bird is a universal symbol of freedom because it represents the ability of birds to fly through the skies whenever necessary, to escape and be free. In the same way, a bird in a cage is a symbol of the freedom that has been taken from it. The Gold Guard's mask may have been carved by Caleb like Philip's to play with, and said mask represents an owl. The shield of the Golden Guard, Gravesfield and even the Emperor; they are birds, and we know for a fact that they reference Caleb, who may very well have been fond of birds, and combining it with woodcarving, results in the Clawthorne lore and Flapjack, and if we go further, reintroducing from the palismans to the Boiling Islands, then I detail that theory. Quote: "Freedom is a bird with wings; you can fly. Birds have all the freedom. They don't have to stay in one place all their lives." It's very close to what we know of Caleb.

There are other reasons that may undermine the popular theory that Evelyn was the owner or carver of Flapjack, and I personally think those theories detract from Caleb's weight in the story. As I listed the reasons, I was asked questions as I wrote them down: If the Flapjack was Evelyn's and she had carved it before the events presented in the story, why would it have the name human food?

All of the birds that the Clawthorne family is inspired to make for their palismans and their family logo are human birds, including Flapjack himself, who doesn't have any whimsical island elements.

Caleb was a woodcarver, and surely that was his job in the human world. Is it not logical to think that it started the tradition of palisman carving?

They're throwing all that data in our faces for God's sake.

Belos, in his fit of rage, called out Caleb's name when he saw Flapjack, before Evelyn's. As Philip fatally wounds Flapjack, he says "Bye, Evelyn" mockingly, but before that he declares, "You wouldn't want me to hurt a precious palisman, would you? On second thought, I don't care what you want." And he proceeds to name Evelyn and impale Flapjack, with many taking those lines at face value. We don't know who he is addressing, when seconds later Hunter regains control of his body, which alludes that his control over his body was weakening, and it is likely that those words were directed at Hunter himself, who seconds later declares his desire to carve palismans. She could also say it to Luz, who she was looking at in the act and showed genuine concern for Flapjack, or Evelyn herself, but she never refers to HER palisman, she refers to ONE palisman. He could also be talking to Caleb, and it would make sense if we analyze that, later, he would enter a mild dissociative state in which he would refer to Hunter as such and after precisely killing Flapjack, he sees his ghost or his hallucination. His enthusiastic "Goodbye, Evelyn" is due to the fact that he ended the symbol of love, freedom and union that marked a before and after in Caleb and in his relationship with Philip, and could also be part of his teasing in his internal conversation with Caleb.

Caleb's first true connection to magic, which would define his decision to remain in the Demon World and become a witch, would be Flapjack. When a warlock carves a palisman, their souls are bound for life, and Caleb carved Flapjack. The series presents many parallels between situations, relationships and characters, and from the current events we can deduce how some previous events were; Luz carved her own palisman, with the help of Eda, who was the one who gave her the wood for the palistrom. And why would it be any different with Caleb? Eda gave her the wooden palistrom because Luz really wanted to be a witch, and maybe Evelyn saw that her good human friend, open-minded and non-extremist, is a carver, and well, it would be nice if she gave him a piece of wood and BOOM! Caleb carves Flapjack, and it would make more sense based on narrative and lore for Caleb to be the one to carve Flapjack, and not be a gift or palisman from Evelyn, since, in addition to detracting from Caleb's own actions and decisions about what he wanted in doing so removes the symbolism of his character and even the relationship between the bird and the Hunter. Going back to the subject of palismans, the fact of sharing souls and that, while Caleb was in the human world; Flapjack linked it to the Boiling Isles. Flapjack was the anchor, which ended up uniting the islands completely. Flapjack represents the link with witchcraft, and at the same time with Evelyn, the culprit that Caleb has known that world. Belos sees in Flapjack the magic that ended up anchoring Caleb to the Isles, and the magic was what separated him from him.

The parallels between characters is one of the best-treated topics in The owl house. Eda, Willow, and Amity can be compared to Evelyn from the point you see it, while Hunter, Luz, and again Eda to Caleb. And I think these scenes are an indirect response to what happened between Caleb and Evelyn.

It is thinking like: I want Maduro to suffer because I am destroying everything he ever wanted, which is everything related to Chavismo. Having already given these examples that are not personal at all and that obviously do not represent the national sentiment of an entire nation; having injured Flapjack, and about to kill him, is Philip destroying everything Caleb ever wanted, everything related to magic. That's why Hunter responds seconds later saying everything he wanted to do, even though Philip didn't care. They were words directed at a man he murdered 400 years ago, from whom he has taken and continues to fight to take everything from him, and that everything is what "pushed" them away in the first place. Obviously it wasn't you stabbing him in the back and chest that destroyed his family, of course not, it was a bird that your brother carved because he wanted to do magic and fly. Yes, Philip, you would make a very interesting case study for psychiatrists. And again, yes Philip, you deserved to be puddled and stomped to death.

So, I have a theory that at the end of Thanks to Them when Hunter absorbed Flapjack (that’s the best word I can think of but you get it) he also gained Flapjack’s powers and to use them he turns into a similar form to Harpy Eda I thought that would be cool but what’s your opinion?

yeahhh, it's a popular theory and i'm 👁👁 !

tbh i feel like what is CERTAIN is that flapjack is a part of hunter now and we're definitely... gonna see more of him, in some form. i can imagine that he's a part of hunter's mindscape (similarly to how palismen consumed by belos were a part of his mindscape, except in this case flapjack willingly sacrificed himself; so i imagine his experience would be pleasant: being able to exist in his favorite boy's mind knowing this sacrifice saved his life, as opposed to being tormented by having your soul trapped in your killer's head... oof), especially when we take this crew member's ig post into consideration:

"For Flapjack... See you in our memories." AND IT'S?????? a mystical-looking forest, flapjack's (empty) staff stick, and (hunter's?) hooty mask? okay...... OKAY. i see what you're doing....

flapjack being a part of hunter's mindscape is also a way for us to get an actual look into the past, cuz we still haven't seen what happened between caleb, philip and evelyn directly (we have an idea thanks to, for example, all the hollow mind paintings, but what they showed us in the last episode and how they showed it to us makes me think they're definitely setting it up to fully reveal what happened sometime in the next episodes). so i think hunter is going to get a look into flapjack's memories, since they're literally connected now, and he's gonna see what exactly happened with caleb, philip and evelyn (that's how he's gonna find out clawthornes are descendants of caleb as well), from flapjack's pov. (hoping that if we enter his mindscape, then we also get some more direct look into hunter's past and some of his pre-canon memories 🕯🕯🕯 but like, we're definitely seeing some of flapjack's imo, that's for sure)

so.. tbh what i wonder is..... what's next.

we do know that grief is one of the main themes of season 3 (or, even the owl house as a whole). we're shown different ways grief can manifest and diff ways it can be approached.... luz, camila, darius, flapjack, even belos in a way..... hm. and now hunter.

luz and camila lost manny and we see it's affected them a LOT. we see this grief throughout luz's character journey, throughout camila's too. we see how painful this loss was... but they've also dealt with it in a rather healthy way. they carried on and got better, and even though they're forever going to miss him, they went on with their lives and adapted to that loss. and luz got azura from her dad and read it thanks to him, and now part of this big special interest of her also comes from and reminds her of her dad's love. and it's sooo so 🤲

we see that darius cared abt and respected his mentor a lot, to the point where he thought hunter wasn't worthy to be the next golden guard and was taking that feeling out on him, thinking he didn't deserve to inherit such title after his mentor had died. (hoping we see them talk abt the mentor and other golden guards in the next eps tbh cuz.... come on, they have a lot to talk abt still.)

belos.......... it's hard to call it a typical grief but it IS in some way, maybe has even been since the moment he saw caleb with that witch, cuz that's when he died in his eyes. this grief manifested into almost an obsession, where he keeps re-making caleb over and over, obsessed with the idea of them being witch hunters together, wanting to make a version of his brother that wouldn't "betray" him even though that's sth that is always always ALWAYS going to happen, it's inevitable. refusing to let it go and spiraling more and more... HM.

and now there's.......... hunter. hunter who already went through so so much, and who just lost his best friend, someone he loved the most. hunter who definitely feels guilty, but he also knows it was BELOS' doing, and he wants belos to pay for what he's done. hunter who.. was finally FINALLY happy, yet had all of his happiness taken away just like that. hunter who knows flapjack sacrificed his own life so that HE can live, and that he's forever going to be with him; his palisman soul.. but also the memories they made together. hunter who's clearly so so shattered, but trying not to focus on that pain he's feeling, cuz then he'd completely break. hunter who's angry at belos, who isn't going to rest until he gets some justice for flap. hunter who's going to have to go through this grief and loss... just.

there are so many ways his grief can be approached. especially comparing it to other characters' ways of dealing with grief, especially belos'..... showing how unhealthy holding on to sth we've lost might be.. showing acceptance of loss, a healthy way of letting go... showing that even if someone is gone, they're still going to be with us forever.... showing the anger and the feeling of unfairness that often accompany the feeling of grief.......... hm.

so i feel..... there are a few things that can happen.

the probably saddest but realistic scenario is that... hunter gets to have a final goodbye with flapjack. he gets to talk to him, gets to find out what he's been hiding from him, he gets to experience flapjack's love again and build a happy last memory for the future. and then.. flapjack is gone. and it's sad as HELL.. but promising for the future, cuz then hunter can healthily move on with his life. he can keep on, feeling less guilty, less heart-broken, with a happy last flapjack memory to accompany him. it's.... extremely sad, but when it comes to losing someone..... having that chance, to say goodbye, to have your last memory with a person you love be a happy, full-filling one, it can do wonders for grief. it doesn't make the loss hurt any less ofc but..... it makes you feel like you can go on, like there's no "unfinished business" weighing down on your heart.

the other still rather sad scenario is that yes, they do talk, etc. etc. but flapjack DOES stay with hunter forever, as a part of him. i'd say it's bittersweet, cuz then flapjack IS alive, in a way, he's not gone, he's forever able to communicate with hunter, he remains by his side til the very end.

sth abt flapjack having been alive for hundreds of years, all alone, but then finally finding a new person to love, and deciding to sacrifice his own life in order to save that person, deciding to stay with that person forever. it's so— OUHHGHHGGG. there's this bittersweetness here cuz then hunter doesn't lose flapjack, not completely. but he's still..... gone in a form that hunter would prefer. flapjack's with him but they can no longer fly together. he's never gonna tuck hunter in after he falls asleep reading a book in the middle of the night anymore. he's not going to tug on his hairstrand or annoy him (cutely). he's never going to race with other birds or catch an early rattle-worm anymore, he's never gonna sing in the morning. and it's SAD, it's extremely sad and tragic and.. sad. but he's with him, so it's also sweet. and it works as (a bit more literal but..) a metaphor of "even when you lose someone, they can live on in your heart, and in your memories". but... ouch.

there's also the theory that hunter may find a way to carve flapjack back, since he has his soul inside of him (and maybe it's "extractable" somehow??), has expressed the want to learn how to carve palismen, and eda does have that palistrom seed, and he might have to talk with clawthornes anyway (since he is gonna find out they're.. kinda sorta related, and i feel like the clawthornes would like to know abt that too so jxjsk).

one of the big enigmas of that scenario, though, is the question: "how would he go around doing it?" would he carve him out identical? would he give him a new shape, a completely new form? or would it be a completely “new” palisman but with a bit of flapjack’s loving soul inside? would hunter form “flapjack” with a new "goal"/"intention" in mind? since they previously bonded by hunter's shared-with-flapjack desire to be free and able to make his own choices, so... . AND, if flapjack could just be carved back out like that, wouldn't his sacrifice feel.... more weak/kinda worthless in the end? this just feels a bit too easy but... HM. i can’t imagine it would be easy, though. there’s always sth that’d make it a challenge, and tbh.. even if it wasn’t, at this point hunter DESERVES to have sth good happen to him, even if unrealistic or “too easy”, but yeah. that’s what makes me wonder if they’d go for this writing choice.

.....there’s also the fact that “re-making”/”bringing back” someone you’d lost is exactly what belos has been doing, albeit in a very different way and with very different intentions, but with a similar end goal, so i could see them going for a contrasty parallel here; never moving on from someone’s death vs acceptance of loss. however, on the other hand, belos also never cared abt any of the golden guards, he wasn’t bringing “caleb” back out of love. so i COULD also see the contrasting scenario in which hunter would be able to bring back flapjack, but because he’d do it out of love for him, it’d be a genuine second chance in life, a successful happy ending. sth belos could never even realistically achieve, because he’d only cared abt himself and his own forced vision of what he and “caleb” (the idealised version of his brother that he had in his head) would do together, not abt what the actual caleb (or hunter, or any of the previous grimwalkers) actually wanted or who they actually were; he couldn’t care less abt that. so yEAH, this specific idea has so many “what if”s and “what about”s, narratively it could either work or not, depending on what direction they decide to go with hunter’s grief but...... HM. yeah.

i’ve also seen ppl propose that flapjack sacrificing himself for hunter and “merging with him” gave him some actual magic and made him like a “full witch”, spell circles and all; and.. that'd be awful actually, sure hope the crew didn't go there. i’ve talked abt it before but, in general, hunter's arc as a powerless "witch" works as a strong disability metaphor. and it's just...... it's about acceptance, it's about finding self-worth, it's about accommodating your needs, it’s about becoming proud and comfortable in your identity, NOT.... about whatever the hell him actually permanently getting witch magic would be; it’d be a “fixing disability” trope, which is just..... bad. awful. so, so wrong for so many reasons. sure hope they didn’t go there cuz that'd be so pointless and take away so much importance from his arc.... but also i don’t think they’d do sth like this?? because eda’s arc (which serves as another disability metaphor) is written well and with care; they didn’t cure her curse or give her her magic back, so.. i doubt they’d give hunter magic, either. but, y’know, just to be safe and clear. (also, even symbolism aside, i don’t think hunter (who’s already made of palistrom wood) absorbing a palisman’s soul/magic/energy would result in... him becoming a “real witch” and being able to create spell circles, like? 😭😭 i doubt it’d work that way)

NOW, him getting some grimwalker-specific features/abilities unlocked, though? OR even being able to just do flapjack’s teleporty thing? that could work. him getting at least something nice out of this whole situation, still having flapjack with him, without having the metaphor behind his character erased, would be soooo nice.

now, as for harpy hunter!

it honestly makes a lot of sense too. belos, having consumed palismen, gained his whole..... y’know, goo form, which is a clear indication that absorbing palisman magic/having palismen as a part of your mindscape may change you physically. the way he’d gone about it, though, is he consumed many, MANY different palismen, and he literally..... sucked magic out of each one of them, after killing them. so i imagine that if hunter were to gain his own palisman-based form, it’d be more similar to eda’s harpy form rather than belos’ goo form, because it’d be based on flapjack only (rather than an amalgamation of all these different creatures) AND it wouldn’t have come from, y’know, sucking literal life out of poor little creatures, but from a loving friend’s willing sacrifice. à propos harpy eda, too, her harpy form obviously came from her facing her curse, bonding with the owl beast and accepting it as a part of her; so it feels like if hunter were to get a harpy form, obviously he wouldn’t have to “accept” flapjack (like that’s his little darling baby, that’s his bestie, that’s his sweet little bird), but he would probably have to deal with something in order for that to happen. the mechanics is different but.. in both instances, the “creature” (the owl beast and flapjack) inside of them is a part of them, exists in their mind (most likely/somewhat), and they’re able to somehow communicate with them and feel their presence (in hunter’s case it’s not confirmed but we may speculate that’s the case, based on what we saw in the last episode post-flapjack’s-death), so the mechanics also is sort of similar. different, yet... not.

so, in all technicality, it seems like harpy/red cardinal form hunter WOULD make sense, from the magical pov. it goes along with the logic of how some other characters’ different “monster” forms originate. although, the rules aren’t very set in stone, each of these situations is its own unique thing, so in the end it all just depends on (again) what direction the crew decides to go in.

however, the thing that makes me hmmmm about it is, i’m not sure if they'd.. implement the same metaphor as they did with eda, y'know? like, her curse and harpy form function as this whole symbolism of living with a chronic illness/disability, so hmmm would they go for the exact same conclusion/endgame with hunter? especially with the grief motif of season 3? not sure, not sure. they MIGHT though, who knows.

........there’s another thing that makes me think it MAY happen, though, and it’s like. hunter has this cursed tendency to say things that'll later come to haunt him in the MOST ironic way, like this boy literally projects on people in the most random ways and manifests every single unfortunate thing left and right, and i just 😭😭

"ew why are you touching it with your hands?" *touches a suspicious-looking substance with his finger with a FRESH OPEN WOUND on it and gets possessed* “because none of you can use real magic" *is magicless* “you don't tend to think things through, do you, human?" *never thinks things through* *is also technically partially human* "hello criminals" *becomes a criminal* "these things are made of wild magic, it’s dangerous" *is literally a grimwalker made of the same wild magic, like literally the same type of wood as palismen* LIKE..... BOY. STOP SAYING THINGS. IT NEVER ENDS WELL.

so i just.

that damn “at least i'm not delusional enough to think i can turn into a harpy" line is absolutely hysterical to me, cuz if he DOES end up being able to turn into a harpy, then......... 😭😭😭😭😭 look. a throwback to this line, a callback to this line.. it’d be so funny.

but yEAH.

there’s one more thing that makes me wonder abt where this all is going and it’s, like. flapjack basically counted as hunter’s support animal/disability aid. for someone powerless, having palisman while living in a world based around magic is... EXTREMELY helpful. hunter can’t fly without flapjack, he can’t play flyer derby without him (something he expressed he’d like to continue doing), he can’t teleport..

so, does he get a new palisman? because... there’s very little time for us to get attached to it and to kinda.. get to know it, if that’s the case. and also flapjack is still a part of hunter, so. hm. (unless that changes too, but. GAH) i feel like he loves flapjack so much, it’d be hard for hunter to replace him. he’d definitely feel so so happy being able to create palismen for others, or just for the sake of creating life, but creating a new one for himself.. that might be hard. or does he get another artificial staff? because that is a thing that represents hunter’s time at the coven, time before he bonded to flapjack, before he realized wild magic is not, in fact, dangerous at all. so hm..... OR does he indeed get flapjack’s teleporting ability?? or the ability to turn into a harpy, and that replaces the use of a palisman? (+ starts using glyph magic) could he play flyer derby like that? i suppose he could..... i hope so. or does he not replace flapjack with anything, because he spends most of his time in the human realm?

LIKE, IT’S JUST. GAHHHH. hunter... :(

i’m sure there’s gonna be lots of grief-related themes, some anger, some acceptance, some sadness, some justice, and finally some happiness in the end, something hunter deserves and needs just... so, so much. he deserves to heal, he deserves to be HAPPY. but it’s still just..... gonna hurt a lot first.

there’s honestly so many ways this can go and so many things that can happen, so........ yeah. hm. thinking.

Ok ok insufferable hunlow headcanons... you know there are some couples who are quite private. If they're in public they'll maybe hold hands at most. If they're fighting u won't even know about it until after they've broken up or it's resolved. Well, with their close friends, Hunlow are the OPPOSITE. even in their situationship when they're trying to be subtle. Their friends know so much about their relationship against their will because they're too obsessed with each other to shut up. (1/2)

YES EXACTLY!!! I remember seeing a headcanon once that Hunter and Willow would be way more low-key about their relationship and prefer to keep their love relatively private, as opposed to Luz and Amity who are very open about it. Everybody has their own interpretation, but I personally cannot picture that at all.

I think they are as LOUD and OBNOXIOUS as any teenagers who are experiencing their first romance. I think they are so mushy even while out in public that it makes other people nauseous.

(Never forget Dana's art with Hunter happily melting in Willow's hand. I am getting heavy implications that they are not in a private setting. They are doing that gay shit in front of people. Unbelievable.)

I think it's a sweet idea that provides a sense of catharsis for both characters.

Willow is stated by Dana to be a person who tries not to brag about things. It's the reason why not a lot of people knew that she regularly worked out. Because she barely talked about it. I personally see it as a form of corrective behaviour where she irons out characteristics that she views as unlikeable, in her efforts to be more palatable to the people around her. Because, as shown in HMH, Willow does possess a boastful streak and has the petty urge to show off every now and again. I think it would be nice for her to express a bit more teenage immaturity in circumstances where its harmless for her to do so. Like at school, where she is so childishly giddy to have a special boy all to herself. I love the idea of Hunter's presence being something that influences Willow to act her age in an easy, lighthearted way.

Who cares if it's annoying? Who cares if it's untastefully braggy? Who cares if she looks blushy and sappy and ridiculous? She's calling her boyfriend a gigglebug in the middle of the goddamn hexside hallway and teasing about how she could sweep him up Princess style and he's eating it up. She's never felt so alive.

MEANWHILE! Hunter is a person who feels love so intensely and passionately while also being a hopeless chatterbox who's incapable of keeping things to himself. AND ALSO he's never gotten the opportunity to really express how deeply he loves. Belos starved him of affection and isolated him from other people. He had to hide Flapjack's existence during the stage where Flapjack was becoming the most ardently adored creature in his life. Hunter has all this love constantly pouring out of him at all times and he can barely handle it. He's bottled it up for far too long. He died and came back to life with a vengeance for living ferociously. He's not going to subdue himself anymore. He wants to be held!! He wants hugs!!! And kisses!!!! He wants someone to caress his face and stroke his hair!!!! He wants to squeeze the people he loves so tight that they leave an imprint on his flesh. Let him be loudly and annoyingly in love with Willow with no idea how to be normal about it. Let him gleefully announce "Willow brought me a bouquet of flowers!! 🥰" In the hexsquad group chat every damn day. And let nobody tell him to shut up. Please, he needs this.

Spoilers for The Owl House season 3 episode 1 ahead:

I'm so mad. I'm so, incredibly mad.

There is only one episode out right now, and I'm already pissed. You can see where they were going to build up to the Belos thing, you can see so much of what they wanted to do in the beginning but had to cut because Disney wants Dana Terrace to suffer and the fans suffer. I'm so pissed because this show is so good, but Disney snuffed the light and had to make them cut the beautiful story into shreds because they wouldn't allow them a full season. Because they hate representation that much, that they would risk money on a series so popular, so loved by fans that I have no doubt they could wring the series for all the money in the world and we wouldn't care (much) because it's such a good series. No, they can't do that, something they've been known to do and have done multiple times. They can't see the monopoly they could possibly make through this series. Why? Because two girls are in a relationship. Because there is LGBT representation. I'm so mad that we couldn't see the months pass by, see Willow and Hunter maybe flirt, see the scene where Luz comes out to her mom with Amity, I want to see Gus gush more about human stuff. I wanted flapjack and Hunter to hang out more, gosh I wanted flapjacks death to hurt more. I cried, I was so upset but everything happened so fast, I immediately stopped thinking of Flapjack. I don't know if that's the needed effect, showing how much more happens in this show if it starts with the death of a beloved character, but I wished things were slower. I wish we were able to see the full breakdown and lead up to Hunters hair with willow. I wish we were able to see a scene with them talking about things, I wish I was able to see more of Luz's school and those kids that apparently admired her.

I want to make this clear that I'm not blaming Dana or any of the people creating this show. They are doing such a good job, and I give them my love and support that they managed to have such Major representation in a Disney show. I'm blaming Disney for not giving them enough time for everything. And I hope that inspite of that, their ideas live In fanfiction and fan comics. I want to see hunter struggle with the fact that Belos is inside him. I want to see lumity hanging out. I want to see Camila being the best mom she is. I want to see Vee being the best friend to everyone, specifically Hunter because they both have nothing in the demon world. I love this show, I want more and more of these characters. This is the first episode. I'm both excited and mortified for the 2 more "44-minute specials" that Disney carelessly threw at us. Gosh, that was only 46 minutes? Only about an hour 30 min for the whole season? Screw you, Disney. Stop making marvel movies and shows.

Flapjacks death is horribly tragic but like. Imagine his narrative. Like from his perspective. Flapjack was- well, we don't know for sure if he was Caleb's or Evelyn's, but I feel strongly that he was elevyns.

So he's got a witch. Probably one who carved him herself. She visits the human realm and brings home a human she falls in love with. He's wonderful and joyous and loves wild magic and the beauty of this new world. It changes everything he knows and believes. She's pregnant! She's going to have a baby!

And then this awful jealous human bastard shows up and kills him. And now flapjacks witch has a fatherless child and a broken heart. And maybe she's got a sadness about her for the rest of her life that never goes away. And then at some point, maybe when Caleb dies, maybe when Evelyn dies, flapjack flies away and lives with the bat queen... For four huuuundreddddd yearssss. He doesn't take another witch... Until he meets hunter. And LOOK at hunter. He's the spitting image of the human his witch loved. Only he's a little boy. He's sixteen and in a cult and a soldiers uniform. He's a martlet in a cage. He's completely alone in the world. Nobody loves him. Everybody wants to hurt him including himself. And despite the fact this boy worships his evil cult emperor, that he helps him murder palismen en masse, that he doesn't want to escape, that he met flapjack while trying to deliver him to his death- he wants him. He wants to save hunter before anyone even knows he needs saving. He loves him. And he DOES save him.

He couldn't save Caleb from Philip four hundred years ago but he can save hunter from him now. He's had four hundred years to grieve and mourn and regret. When he does to save hunter he knows exactly what he's doing. He's had so much time to think about this exact scenario. What would he do if he could do it again. And he knows what he would do and he does it. Because it's worth it. He is four HUNDRED years old. He HAD his witch. Hes already had his life. He wants hunters.

Like... Flapjacks death was horrible. It's so tragic and unfair. And hunter deserved better. But I think flapjack like... He is four centuries old. He has had his life. He has lost a witch or two of you count Caleb. And he saw the aftermath and he knows exactly what saving Hunter is worth and it's worth it. "Thank you for finding me" is a perfect epitaph because it's not in grief. It's grateful but not grieving. Flapjacks death got to mean something... It's the perfect ending for him, in a way, getting to redo the worst day of his life and do it differently this time.

Lore answers & info from the Post Hoot, which I’m organizing by the unanswered questions I had from my previous post. This may not be entirely comprehensive of all the info from the post hoot, could definitely be missing some things!

What’s the history of Hooty? Was he always a part of the the Owl House or did he move in at some point? Why was a mini-Hooty in the Titan’s eye socket??

Confirmed that an offhand comment by the YouTuber thethirdbill about Hooty in Papa Titan’s eye socket was right. Couldn’t find the clip of exactly what he said, but I think it’s something about Hooty being a tapeworm? Hooty hole?

What’s the history of the Portal Door & Key?

Mentioned that the eye in the Portal Door is the Titan’s missing eye.

What exactly is the Tower Glyph (the one that King carved on his collar) and where does its magic come from?

The origins of King’s Tower is related to a character we all know, who now has amnesia about it. Likely the Bat Queen considering she’s the only character who explicitly has amnesia (but I personally like to think it’s Tibbles).

What are the nitty gritty details of the Wittebanes & Evelyn's story?

Caleb and Evelyn had a super loving relationship... until it was ruined lol. Not much more info on that.

Is Evelyn a Clawthorne?

YES!!! The Clawthornes are all descended from Caleb and Evelyn! Hunter and Eda are not aware of this fact.

What are the details of Flapjack’s origin? Whose Palisman was he exactly?

As was depicted in the trailer ride in Thanks to Them, Flapjack was gifted to Caleb by Evelyn (as she found him more reasonable and less violent than everyone else in Gravesfield), and was essentially his first true introduction to magic.

To Belos, Flapjack is a representation of the corrupting force that magic, the Demon Realm, and Evelyn all had on his brother, hence the line “Goodbye, Evelyn” when he killed Flapjack. That line was never meant to be literal (as I have been saying this whole time lol).

What's the history of the shack in the woods? Does it have any direct relationship to the Owl House? Who used to live there? The Wittebanes? Evelyn?

Dana’s thoughts on the matter seemed to not be 100% final (so if it was actually incorporated into the show, we could have got something different), but she said maybe it was the Wittebanes’ house a long long time ago. And when Eda first entered the Human Realm through the Portal Door, she came out at the shack, which was even more dilapidated than we see it now. She then spent years fixing up the shack alongside fixing up The Owl House, one being her home in the Human Realm and the other her home in The Demon Realm.

Other things off the top of my head said in the post hoot that I didn’t mention in my last post:

There’s another ending for the show that Dana has wanted to do since the beginning, but it didn’t work within the time constraints. Too much would need to be set up. If we ever do get a sequel show, she would use that finale to cap it off.

I don’t know how it would happen but I would love for Darius and Eber to somehow accidentally get stuck in Hunter’s mindscape

I feel like it has been done before, but forgive me, because I have the memory of an amnesiac goldfish, so I can't pinpoint an specific thing and therefore I'm just going to babble to my heart's content.

It's probably rare for people to even be making a potion to get into someone's mindscape, and even rarer for them to be able to make a spell to do that, since it seemed like a wild magic thing and despite Belos' reign being over, it's still probably fairly difficult to do. So what are the circumstances? Leaning toward a very convoluted scenario of someone shouldn't have been there and every single person here had no idea someone even had a potion for this and uh, oh, somehow this happened. Thinking about it being at the Night Market, because where else would you find something like that, really?

Circumstances aside, oh, that would be so rough for everyone involved.

Especially if we're assuming there hasn't happened too long since Hunter has been living with Darius and Eberwolf, which means that he would be taking probably the very first baby steps toward recovery, but mostly he would be doing very badly.

How could this reflect in the mindscape? It's fascinating to think about, if we take the theme of life in general being a thing across all of the mindscapes, independently on the state it might present itself it depending on the person, how would that show for Hunter? Trees are well and good, but I'm thinking he could have something very significant to him, perhaps. I'm thinking about the climate at the Knee, not gonna lie. It sounds dreary when we take the association of cold and snow with death, but I was thinking the Knee would be a very particular place for him, since he did one of his trials to become a scout there, so it used to be a motive of pride, and then there's Eclipse Lake, which is objectively not that great, but that's also where he accepted his bond with Flapjack, so somehow it also has positive associations.

Maybe the kind of trees that grow around there?

As for what Darius and Eber would see there, I gotta imagine there have to be quite the amount of memories that might be blocked because Hunter's mind kinda did that because those were some very traumatic experiences he had growing up, and others that might not be blocked in such a literal way, but perhaps muted? Recent things like the possession and Flapjack's death, there's a lot going on there for him, unfortunately.

Is that how it works? Who knows, I'm not the mindscapes expert, that's Hunter /j.

Ultimately I think Darius and Eber wouldn't want to poke around too much, and just try to find a way out or wait until someone gets them out. Although...

If Hunter wanted them to see some things he's been wanting to bring up but doesn't know how, I could see them just following along. Aided, of course, by inner Hunter, which I'm also not too sure of how he would be, but I'm kinda going for a very normal version of Hunter, just perhaps more sincere and with less filters than regular Hunter is, because he's not fearing all the consequences normal Hunter has learned while growing up.

I do wonder if Flapjack's essence could somehow manifest in there as well, since he gave his life for Hunter's. Maybe not Flapjack exactly, but some kind of tribute to him in Hunter's mind, that could be sweet.

In any case, I feel like the conclusion Darius and Eber would get from this would be "oh, Titan, we knew he was traumatized but there's so much more going on than we suspected, we gotta get him some help asap" 😭

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

He loves reading with you, whether it’s in the library in the castle or his bedroom! He’d never admit it but he really likes it when you read to him, he finds your voice very soothing to the point that he’s fallen asleep before.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

How gentle you are with him, he is severely touch starved and very sensitive to it. Belos never treated him well throughout his life and he was used to pretty much everyone in the Boiling Isles hating or fearing him. When he felt how you cradled his face like he would shatter and your thumb softly stroking his scarred cheek, the flood gates opened.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

He’d panic a bit himself first before remembering the breathing exercises Gus taught him. The little whistle that the gap in his teeth cause always helps calm you down and cheer you up a bit, just seeing him trying to do his best is very endearing.

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

Warm, he wants to live in a comfy cottage in the woods with you, far away from the busyness of the Boiling Isles, just you two and your palisman. Sitting in front of a fire bundled up in blankets enjoying each other’s company, finally safe from Belos and all the expectations that he was burdened by.

E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

In the beginning he was the dominant one in the relationship, his Golden Guard act taking over. As your relationship progressed he became more passive due to him trusting you much more than he did before.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

It depends on what you’re arguing about and what you said. If it was just a teasing comment you two would have a more playful “fight” but, if it’s something that is serious to him, he will full on argue with you. If you say something that does genuinely hurt him, it’ll take awhile for him to forgive you.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

In the beginning he’d probably say something along the lines of “You should be honored after all you are dating THE Golden Guard.” After awhile though he will start to notice and acknowledge all the things you do for him like, sending him little notes via Flapjack, carrying him to his bed whenever he falls asleep at his desk, making themed bookmarks, genuinely listening to him when he rants about something that interests him. He can go on all day listing the things you do for him.

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

He tried to keep everything about what he learned in Belos’s mind secret from you, he didn’t want to lose you because he’s a actually a Grimwalker and not a real witch. Eventually you had sat him down and asked him about what happened inside his “uncle’s” mind (Luz told you about what happened with her but avoided everything that had to do with Hunter), the concern that was all over your face ended up braking him. “I-I completely understand if you...if you no longer want to be in a relationship with me...” You didn’t care about what he was, you fell in love with Hunter not because he was a witch but for him as an individual, “It’s gonna take a lot more than being a Grimwalker to get rid of me.”

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

He has severe touch starvation to the point that contact initially made him uncomfortable but, after awhile of being exposed and “training” himself, it ended up revealing how much he really needed the affection you were giving him. He adores waking up with your arms wrapped around him like he’s your favorite stuffed animal.

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

He gets jealous when he sees you with somebody he thinks is better for you than him, like a stable witch who has a good relationship with their family and isn’t tragically full of traumatic experiences. His lowest moment was when he got jealous of how much time you spent and how close you were becoming with Luz despite him knowing that she is dating Amity.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

Well you were his first kiss ever so he wasn’t very good at it, he was stiff and was freaking out internally about where to put his hand. It didn’t help that in his eyes the date you two went on was a complete disaster. So when you intertwined one of your hands with his, the other coming up to gently cup his cheek with a soft smile he was confused. “Hunter, maybe the date didn’t go exactly according to plan but that’s the beauty of life y’know? I really liked spending time with you and personally I had a lot of fun with you today even if it wasn’t perfect.” He could feel his face heat up in your hand as you very slowly leaned in stopping before your lips touched, your eyes flicked up to his looking for any sign of discomfort to find none you saw a small nod from him “Please.” It was barely a whisper but you could feel it on your lips, so you closed the gap between you. It was only a few seconds long but when you pulled away Hunter was completely red from the base of his neck to the tips of his pointed ears.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

You walked in on him practing his confession to Flapjack, funnily enough it was Flapjack who chirped at you to go to Hunters room. So you follow the birds request and make your way over to his room, gently opening the door. Hunter’s back was facing towards you as he gently held Flapjack in his hands. “So uh I’m sure you’re probably wondering why I asked you to come out here...I...I really like you, I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. You make me feel like heart is gonna come bursting out of my chest whenever you look at me for too long and how it feels like my body is gonna melt or give out whenever you hug me! You always manage to make me laugh and include me in whatever you’re doing…you make me feel like I’m actually important…” he paused staring at Flapjack “That…that was way too much.” “ Really? Cause I thought it was perfect.” He turned around so fast he almost fell over, Flapjack flew over to you and landed on your shoulder. “So this is why you asked me to come here.” Hunter’s face, neck and ears turned the brightest red you’ve ever seen. He glared at the little bird and huffed out an almost silent “Traitor…”

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

He does want to marry you eventually but, if you don’t want to get married he is perfectly content with just being able to spend the entire day with you at home, uninterrupted. He proposes to you at the same spot you shared your first kiss together, he has his moments of being very cliche and sappy when it comes to these kinds of things later on in your relationship. Pure domestic bliss, he craves a stable and simple life with you, a quiet cottage with just you two and your palisman relaxing together near a warm fire.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

In the beginning he refused to use a nickname/term of endearment for you and would be annoyed whenever you called him one. As the relationship progressed he ended up enjoying it whenever you called him “Handsome” or “Darling”. For you he sticks with the traditional “Dear” and occasionally uses “Sweetheart” when referring to you.

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

He is so confused about his feeling but also really happy, he just wants to be with you all the time. If you’re doing anything expect him to tag along and he will use a myriad of excuses of why he is there with you (Eg: “Somebody needs to make sure you don’t get into trouble” and “I was ordered to go with you” are the most used) although you never minded and encouraged him to come with you. Its obvious to everyone but him, he thinks he’s so sneaky with how he feels but everyone can see how his face flushes when you just look at him with a smile. He pulls a surprised pikachu face and sputters when the others ask him about his crush on you.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

He lets all your mutual friends know and who ever asks he will happily tell them that you two are together. When you’re around he won’t gush or brag about you but when you’re gone oh boy does he just start going off about everything he likes about you. Him and Amity have small arguments about who has the better partner, one time you and Luz walked in during one and just stood at the doorway watching. They were both very red when they finally realized y’all were there. Physical affection is new to him so he prefers to keep all of it private but if you hold his hand or give him a kiss on the cheek he’ll let out a squeak/wheeze before the blush overtakes his face.

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that's beneficial in a relationship.

Well due to him being a Grimwalker his natural body temperature is lower than normal so when cuddling the temperature is perfect not too hot and not too cold. If you’re searching for warmth all you need to do is compliment him or give him a kiss and he’ll heat up in no time.

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

He has absolutely no idea what he’s doing but you can tell he’s trying, he’ll end up doing very cheesy/cliche things in an attempt to show you how he feels. Sappy love letters, huge bouquets, candle lit picnics, it’s rather endearing to watch him try so hard to impress you. You let him know he doesn’t need to do any of the things he’s doing because you like him for him. He dropped all the cliches but every now and then you’ll find a little note or flower on your desk.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

He will help you no matter what your goal is, and if you dont want his help he will gladly cheer you on. He wants to see you suceed in life and he wants to be right there with you to celebrate.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

He craves a normal routine, his time as the golden guard was full of constant chaos and when he was with Belos he was constantly on his toes afraid of accidentally angering him. Just to live a simple and domestic life with you is exactly what he dreamed of.

U nderstanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

He likes to think he knows you very well and he does but there are somethings you keep to yourself more for his sake than your own. At the beginning he struggled with showing empathy, he may have felt it but he never explicitly said/showed it. Now however if he’s ever concerned for you or feels bad about something you went through or thought he will let you know.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

You mean everything to him, he’d risk life and limb if it means that you’d be safe and happy. He would choose you over Belos any day, even when you two were just friends he wanted to make sure that you wouldn’t be subjected to Belos’s wrath.

W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.

Hunter is the little spoon. He desperately wants and needs somebody to take care of him, he is so used to being the one who takes care of everyone else. The first time you made him be little spoon was after a rather harsh conversation with Belos he was super stiff in the beginning but, after awhile of being curled up with his back against your chest he melted into you. That was the best sleep of his life, so understandably he takes almost every opportunity to be the little spoon as much as he can.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

In the beginning he was rather adverse to touch but after awhile he started to crave your touch. He now initiates most of the physical affection, mostly by dropping hints, but he has his moments of boldness like when he kisses you or drags you down onto the couch for an impromptu cuddle session. He’s only like this in private though, around others hand holding and maybe a peck on the cheek is all that he can handle.

Y earning - How will they cope when they're missing their partner?

He will internalize and lightly beat himself up about missing you, “Ugh why do I miss them? I saw them just a few hours ago, it makes no sense!” However if somebody else mentions that they miss you he will jump aboard that train right next to whoever he’s talking to. It makes him feel like he’s being totally normal for missing you.

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

Like what I mentioned above, you mean everything to him, he would give up all that he has if it means that you’ll be safe and happy. He’d leave his life as the Golden Guard behind for you, if that doesn’t show how far he’d go I don’t know what will.

Hunter's Room (Fan Design)

It is about time I finally did this, now I can make so many drawing ideas come true with a room for Hunter designed. Also, for those who read my "Timeskip Watching and Dreaming AU" series of fanfics on A03, this is what Hunter's room looks like. This room is a room in Darius' house, so yippie Dadrius.

Alright, I know the doors can be confusing to let me break this down.

The door on the south wall with the small cuckoo clock like doors is the door to exit the room. I put cuckoo doors on the door because it's for Waffles.

The door that's on the wall that's jetting out is the door to the walk-in closet

And the the door on the west wall is the door to Hunter's private bathroom.

I originally wanted to do the entire Deamonne household at once, but, no way that would take forever. Maybe I'll do parts of it in the future but for right now, NO. If I did, I'd probably do Darius' room next and the living room after that.

This took such a long time to design, and it was my first time ever designing a background completely on my own. I needed to take off the training wheels and design my own background for once, and for my first attempt, I think I did a decent job.

The only thing that I couldn't add is a ceiling fan, but that was only because of the angles I had. I'm sure I could've if I had a different angle. Im going to have to design that separately.

This took since October 20th to finish, I probably could've got it done faster, but uni kept me busy and such. Either way, now that I've finished this, I can't wait to make drawings with this room. Yay!

I'm gonna go on an infodump to why I decided to put almost everything here in Hunter's room.

North Wall:

Bed: I decided to make the headboard and footboard a cherry colored wood because Hunter would definitely like cherry wood because it's reddish. Referencing Willow's headboard that has a flower, I changed that into a bird for Hunter. I gave him a blue blanket in reference to Waffles. I headcannon that Hunter LOVES plushies, so I gave him some plushies I'd think he'd like. He'd definitely like squishmallows, so I gave him a blue-jay, cardinal, and wolf squishmellow. I also gave him a small wolf plush, as well as a small parrot plush and a peacock plush. The Sprig plushie is special, as it's not the same one as he had in the castle. It's a life-sized one Willow won him at a carnvial. (Reference to one of my fics).

Nightable: Nothing much to say here outside of the fact that I felt like Hunter would need one. I gave him a crystal ball because I felt like he'd like one.

Desk: This is where Hunter does work, from designing clothes to sew to studying for school. He has a log of regluar wood to practice carving on. (This room is set when Hunter is still a kid early during the WAD timeskip) He also has a punch a pencils, a desk lamp, and some books on there.

Corkboard: Hunter keeps notes for his school studies, and personal projects here. Sometimes he doodles things and puts them up there, such as the wolf and birds doodles.

Wall: Hunter would 100% be that person to have a trillion posters. I gave him a Flyer Derby poster, and a hummingbird poster. The Ruler's Reach poster is actually signed by King himself. Here's also a wolf calender, since I'd figured he'd like that, and a cuckoo clock that I headcannon Hunter and Dell carved together.

Bookshelf: On the bottom shelf, Hunter keeps a bunch of random books he likes.

On the second shelf, he has a photo of Flapjack, textbooks for his abominations and potions classes, and a photo of Willow

On the third shelf, he has textbooks for his illusions, construction, wild magic, plants, beastkeeping, and runes classes.

On the forth shelf, he has a photo of Darius, textbooks for his bard, oracle, and healing classes, and a photo of Waffles.

On the top shelf, he has his two favorite books of all time, Cosmic Frontier and Ruler's Reach, specially displayed with them propped up.

Jesus, that was by far the longest description we'll have.

East Wall:

Window: Hunter has a basic window with blue curtains. I originally wanted to make the curtains space themed for Cosmic Frontier, but then realized that would be a pain to draw over and over again, so I kept it blue. Maybe I can make Hunter's shower curtain space themed instead.

Other then that, there is nothing new on this wall that I'd like to cover. (I'd rather cover things that appear on other walls in their sections)

South Wall:

Wall: Hunter has two more posters on this wall. A Cosmic Frontier Poster. This is a reference in itself, where in Star Trek, the equivalent of O'Bailey has an asian wife that is a Bontonist, and that is sorta a parrel to Huntlow. So I decided to make a headcannon design for both O'Bailey, and the Bontonist I decided to rename to Aiko. So boom. Huntlow reference. The other poster is simply a wolf poster.

Box: This is pretty self explanatory. Its a box with sewing supplies.

Mannequin: Since Hunter sews, I'd imagine he'd like to have a mannequin to help make the clothing design process easier.

Table: This is the same sewing Machine from Thanks to Them, as Camila gave it to Hunter as a gift.

West Wall:

Outside of the door of the bathroom, there is nothing new on the west wall that I haven't already covered.

Bonus:

Here is the original blueprint for the entire Deamonne household. I could go from here and design every last aspect of the house, but that would take ages. I'd definitely like to, but its just so much work. Like I said, the next two rooms I'd design are Darius' room and the living room. Plus, Hunter's room was by definition going to he the hardest, since he has the most stuff and therefore detail in his room.

For when I wanted to focus solely on Hunter's room, I referenced the upstairs blueprint snd made a more detailed blueprint just for his room. As you can see, A LOT ended up changing from this to the final version.

The Owl House: Charis!AU

Context: the Wittebane brothers get tragically separated in their youth. One is thrown abruptly in the future, while the other remains stuck in the past, how will this change their story?

Two posts in two days in a row? I really am in Hyperfixation-

ANYWAY

here we are with Caleb Wittebane, or at least, his design at the beginning in of my (and @magpieddd ) AU, the Charis!AU.

Let’s now talk about the design.

- Contrary to Hunter and Philip, I do not have too much to say about the clothing department, as this is heavily inspired by the absolutely amazing and inimitable art of @bananadramaaa . I think the art style and design this artist uses for the wittebro is absolutely unmatched, and the small comics they have blessed us with are one of the main reasons that pushed me not only into my wittebane hyperfixation, but also gave me the inspiration needed to start this whole AU (something I really needed as I was struggling a bit from a creative point of view before this). So thank you sosososo much and love your art dearly!

- In a similar fashion as Philip, I tried to make the clothing look old and worn out

- I also decided to add some red touches, because I find it very interesting how all the most important people to Caleb tend to be associated with the color red (Philip when he was a child, Evelyn and Flapjack)

- I placed Hunter and Caleb side by side, specifically to remark their similarities as well as their differences. This because, for how similar they may appear at a first glance, the more you look, the more they truly appear for whom they truly are, different and unique individuals!

- for the similarities: due being of similar age and one the grimwalker of the other, they share many traits! Their height and body structure are lowkey identical, they share extremely similar facial features, and also their hair is of similar color and tends to grow in a similar manner. They look, at least, closely related.

- For the differences (my favorite part): we can easily pinpoint of course the scar, the different eye color and the ears’ shape, but there is more to it! Caleb, although partially hidden by the baggy clothes, is noticeably slimmer than Hunter due to living in more precarious situation, where scarcity of food was not uncommon. I also used a warmer color palette for Caleb than for Hunter. This because I wanted to make Caleb look less threatening and more- well, human! Warm colors tend to be associated with comfort and familiarity, making Caleb appear more welcoming regardless of his expression. Hunter, on the other side, has a cooler color palette. This is meant to represent his role as a merciless soldier, and give him a more outwardly and witchy appearance. He is not welcoming and is not someone to mess up with, he is threatening and being in his presence should make you feel uneasy at least on some level.

This should be all for now, I hope I can come up with a new design or illustration soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How did Caleb live so long? How can he still be here after 400 years?

A: Belos wanted him to stick around and so he made it happen. As for specifics: *shrugs* your guess is as good as mine! This is something I've preferred to leave up to the readers. I will simply confirm that he isn't hiding any goop powers or OP palisman-given magical abilities. He is, for all intents and purposes, a regular human who is somehow really, really old.

Q: If Caleb is still alive, where did Hunter come from?

A: The full story here hasn't been told yet, but you may notice Caleb is missing quite a few bones...

Q: Caleb's ears are pointed! Did Belos cut them??

A: Correct

Q: Does Caleb know about the Collector/the basilisks/Belos' plans?

A: Probably! He's been Belos' sounding board for 400 years. Access to things that could "further corrupt him" or provide him a tool for escape, however, are off limits, so there are many things, like the Collector, that he's heard about but never seen for himself.

Q: Where's Flapjack/Amity/Darius/etc?

A: This is basically a canon divergence. If you haven't seen a particular character, it's safe to assume for now that they're up to whatever they were doing in canon.

Q: I don't get it. Why is Caleb insane?

A: I suggest you reread the first few story posts, my friend! You have fallen for Belos' lies.

Q: Do you have a posting schedule? When will the next part come out?

A: There is no posting schedule. I draw (mostly but not always) traditionally in my free time, for the fun of telling a cool story, and some posts are longer than others. That means the timing of the next post depends on how long it is, how much time I have, and whether or not I'm at home with access to my scanner. Sometimes this means I post quickly. Sometimes it means you'll see me next month. Sorry about that.

Just know that if I know there's going to be an extended wait, especially one where I'm not actively working on the next drawing, I will make an announcement about it. If you haven't seen an update in a while but I also haven't said anything, it's almost definitely because I'm actively chipping away at a part of the story that's taking me longer.

Q: Why do some of the story posts have a letter after the number? Are these less important than the regular story posts? Can I skip them?

A: No, I Do Not Recommend skipping them! They are just as important as the others. They have a letter on the end because they were added later and I use letters as a way to avoid renumbering everything. If you see story posts labeled something like "3, 3A, 4", they are meant to be read the same as you would if they were "3, 4, 5".

Q: Can I make art/fic/cosplay of this au?

A: Knock yourself out! If you post it somewhere, please include credit, but otherwise I don't mind, and actually love seeing what you do with it! If it's NSFW though, please keep it in appropriate spaces with proper warnings.

Q: Wait there's fic/fanart?? Can I see?

A: If you look through the tag on my blog "BK fridge gallery" you can browse any content shared with me that I've reblogged. :) People are free not to share it with me too though, and there are some I don't reblog, especially if its gorey or suggestive, so you might be able to find a bit more elsewhere under the Brother's Keeper AU name if you look for it.

A: Probably, yes. Sometimes it takes me a few days to get to it. However, if it was theorizing about future plot points, I may actually be holding onto it with plans to answer at a more appropriate time. I like to keep many of my plans for the story close to the chest, so don't be surprised if your theory ask disappears only to show up many months later when the story has progressed to a point where I can give you a more in depth answer.

Samara “Sam” Lindwyrm is a young witch attending Hexside with possibly the longest standing truancy record in all Hexside history. She’s almost been expelled on multiple occasions as a result of this.

She’s very temperamental and has a naturally sour attitude. Only thing she never counted on was a certain human bumbling into her life and cracking open her shell (while also forcing her to come to class)

-Sam is a witch-gorgon hybrid. Her father was a witch and her mother was half-gorgon. She can shift into a gorgon-like form (she only has two snakes in this form, their names are Salt & Pepper!), her gaze isn’t actually able to turn anyone to stone, but it can temporarily stun her target!

-She was initially enrolled into the Oracle track due to coming from a long family or oracles, but switched to the beast keeping track half way through her enrollment at Hexside. (She much preferred beasts to fortunes)

-She was raised by her grandmother Natalie, as her parents had been arrested and petrified. Her mother Ophia was a wild witch who kept her wild status hidden by tattooing an fake oracle sigil on her arm. She was caught using healing magic by one of her neighbors when healing a young Sam. She was later arrested, her husband Ernest being taken in for housing a wild witch. Sam was four at the time. She despises Belos as a result of this..

-She’s rather rude and spiteful towards her classmates, she mainly does this to cope with her fears of letting others get to close to her, out of fear she’ll have to deal with the pain of losing someone again. However, after being taken in as a member of the Hexsquad, her softer, protective side begins to shine through.

-Met Luz after Bump had sent Luz out to find Sam, as she was of course skipping, (he’d planned to finally hand in her expulsion forms, he just needed her in person). They met in Sam’s typical hiding spot, and through a series of definitely illegal shenanigans involving some poor Coven Scouts, they became friends. After they returned to school, Luz convinced Bump to allow Sam to remain a student. Bump eventually conceded, provided Luz make sure Sam actually shows up to class. (And Sam ended up becoming yet another member of the Hexsquad-)

-Her palisman is a capybara named Kibitzer. He’s as the entire Hexsquad would put it “a lil bastard”, and is also the light of Sam’s life. He’s rather deadpan constantly and is very protective of Sam.

-Met Hunter when her and Luz were doing illegal shit (of course on Eda’s order-), and their relationship started essentially as petty banter. But through a time of Hunter getting dragged around after her, and they actually began to talk, both began to realize that their lives are relatively shitty thanks to the Emperor’s Coven. They both also open up about feeling smothered at their respective homes. And while getting Hunter (with the help of Flapjack and Kibitzer) to open up about his suppressed interests (and gushing about her own), Sam began to realize how much she loved his dorky personality, and set out to try and reach out more to him afterwards.

-The two of them grew even closer during their time in the Human Realm, exploring human customs together, Sam beginning to dabble into researching the realm’s animals and trying out wild witch practices from the Savage Ages, while Hunter dwelled more into who he wanted to be, supporting each other’s endeavors the whole time. The two of them started to officially date after the Owl Fam saved The Boiling Isles.

-She was enraged by Hunter’s “death” during thanks to them. She lunged at Belos’s with all she had, not even calling Kibitzer to her, simply attacking with the largest spell she could conjure. Belos of course escaped, but she did show a side to her that hadn’t been seen until that point. She was completely worn down throughout all of For the Future, having to regain her magic as so much had been drained from that spell.

-Luz, Gus, and Willow are literally only able to get her to come to class if they put any creature in front of her. A dangerous dragon, a trash slug, pixies, ratworms, anything works, the girl goes doe-eyed at creatures. Otherwise she’ll be dragged into Hexside kicking and screaming.

-She’s a cheerleader for the Emerald Entrails! She did it as a favor for Willow. And also to get back at Bump for not allowing her to be cheer for the Banshees. It’s because of her that snakes are not permitted to be used at cheer tryouts..

-Her eyeball earrings she wears from s1-s2 originally belonged to her mom. They’re rather uncomfortable and rather worn from age, but she always wore them as a memento to her mom. Her eventually deciding to stop wearing them happened after learning to let herself move on from her parents’s passing.

-She got her cardinal earrings while in the Human Realm! It’s while the squad was out shopping for new clothes and Kibitzer and Flapjack directed her towards the pair. She felt guilty for a while as she wasn’t wearing her mom’s, but through some talks with Camila, she realized she didn’t need pieces of jewelry to keep her parents memories alive. She may have also gotten the earrings as a not-so-subtle hint to Hunter about her crush (girl ain’t slick-)

-Her blue jay earrings were a gift from Hunter! I love the headcanon that gifting jewelry in the Boiling Isles is the human equivalent to proposals, so that’s what I went for with it. Masha helped him pick them out from a shop in the Human Realm as he wanted to mix the next step of their relationship from both realms (jewelry from the Human Realm, and the practice of the Demon Realm)

-She views Bump, Bat Queen, and Eberwolf as parental figures to her. And despite the strain they initially had in their relationship, post Day of Unity, her and her grandmother worked to mend their relationship, attending family therapy together.

-As an adult she works as a palisman carver with Hunter and the Clawthornes! Since she’s not great at carving, she manages Palisman Adoption Day at all Boiling Isles schools with the Bat Queen!

-She also has a mentorship under Eberwolf, in which both of them worked to help rescue and relocate beasts who had their habitat destroyed by the raising of the Left Arm during Belos’s possession of the Titan.

-Is very close to the Clawthorne family, Eda, Camila, and Raine all welcoming her in as one of their own (she’s always admired Eda as a wild witch) and Luz, Vee, King, and Collector all happy their brother has an awesome girlfriend who can make him happy (and bonus to Luz since she’s already one her best friends!)

-She’s Waffles’s self declared mom now. Hunter still has yet to earn Kibitzer’s complete approval on their relationship, but he’s getting close! (He just wishes the damn capybara would stop bopping him with those tiny paws of fury-)

And this is Kibitzer and Sam in her gorgon form! (With Salt and Pepper!) (gorgon design is outdated though- I just need a new ref-)
