Tristan's scratched eye improved, but his eye still didn't look right, though I couldn't put my finger on why.

At his followup, my vet thinks he is developing glaucoma. She's about 95% certain, but still wants him to go through diagnostics before starting meds. We have an appointment Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Tristan is hesitating before going outside, and sometimes refusing entirely. I think it's the bright Florida summer sun, poor kid, so we're trying dark doggles to see if it helps. (Interesting issue: fogging. Can't explain lens fogging to a dog. Brainstorming...)

We keep glancing at him and thinking he has shucked the doggles, but no, they just blend really well 😄 He's mostly tolerating them well; hat practice is doing its job! (accustoming the dogs to irritants strapped to their heads)

Major spoilers

So shady sands got nuked by a random vault dweller because his wife took their kids, and he wanted his kids, and he was mad his wife found a settlement when vault tec was supposed to be the ones settling the surface…he was mad the ncr “did vault Tec’s job before they could” so he blew…the fucking ncr’s main settlement up

I wonder if it’s like “oh yeah he was a protag of his own mind pretty much” kind of jab but even then it leaves a bad taste in my mouth? Because it is insane video game writing and it’s definitely insane bethesda video game writing, but it fucks up a very integral part of two major games

And I hate how much like…yeah the BoS is back to being technocratic and more cult like in the show but it’s also still praised kind of? And the random, and I mean RANDOM, nonbinary BoS member that’s there for like, 20 minutes was just…a waste. A nonbinary person that really does nothing but just be there and hurt themselves to forward the narrative of the cis het protag. Honestly they’re there to piss of the conservative gamers but I’m not conservative and I’m pissed shady sands and the ncr got did dirty like that so in the end every fallout fan is mad

Like…the ncr went from a huge mega power that is basically a country, to being blown up by a dude? And they don’t mention the hoover dam and how maybe they were weakened from the legion/ncr conflict…which would’ve made it believable. Nada. They just say it this guy blew up shady sands so I guess it happened. It’s canon.

They just made the ncr seem so small after fnv made it feel so big and menacing in its own way with hundreds of named npcs with stories and it was so gooooood and they made it feel like a shitty dinky settlement comparable to fucking…like…diamond city

Idk it’s like 5am and the final episode just pissed me off. They should’ve just set it in New York or Florida and made up new factions instead of establishing canon endings to the most favored game in the series. Or they could’ve done a prequel to fo4 if they wanted it to tie in the games so bad.

The ghoul also has the best scenes and story but I’m…idk the drugs suppressing the “feral” disease is also a weird thing. It’s new to the tv series and what only in la? What’s it made of that no one else makes? And why the fuck did he have to eat someone. I liked the scene because it was kinda just neat to watch in a way… but it’s like “oh he’s a ghoul so he eats people whoOoOo” They never really…explain…if he like…needs meat or something and idk. I dunno. And cold fusion? Like what. Wha…uh. I fucking hate the idea of power being harnessed from tiny object. It’s just a lame McGuffin they can pass around. I would rather it be like…they’re fighting over a wind farm to harness power and they need like a scientist/engineer to fix it. Something that feels big and really.

Anyway, I’m fine with watching it until I think about it, and then I don’t like the plot. So it feels like fo4 all over again but I’m more mad because I feel like it ruined fnv’s ending. Which sucks. So personally I do not see the show as canon but as like, fan fiction to like…maybe a independent/house/legion ending for fnv when the ncr is super week and some guy just bombs it…because he’s mad at his wife.

Big ooof, a 8/10 until episode 8 and then it’s a fat 2/10…one star for goggins making another badass ghoul in the series and one for the dog

I think Santi just loves music! He flies a lot so he spends time listening to full albums.

He doesn't have a lot of free time

Despite everyones teasing, he's not here to fuck pretty women. He's here to work.

Still, despite onl a few personal items he does have his guitar. Plays it a lot.

It does help with women

When he was a kid he thought he'd become a singer, he loves Vicente Ferdanez and Juan Gabriel

Alas, for a poor immigrant family Santi couldn't abandon them to persu wishy-washy dreams, he needed to work. Hence the military.

Still, it makes him happy when he sit and play guitar, watching people smile.

William Miller

Will hates modern country.

Growing up in the yee haw south I think he hates what it's become

Was not upset when Tobey Keith died at all, think he ruined the genre in the post-9/11 nationalism

He enjoys thegrassroots rock movement (springsteen, melloncamp, petty) and the blues.

Him and Santiago both love Fleetwood Mac. It combines Santi's love of rock and Will's love of the blues.

Enjoys jazz but also classical music. He has more interest in the instruments than the lyrics of music anyway.

Him and Frankie both love love love Johnny Cash (who doesn't?)

Will loves suduko

He loves things that calm his mind.

Will likes sports, it was how him and Ben spent a lot of time on the farm.

To this day he likes going out to play ball with Ben. It helps Benny with his ADHD.

Benjamin Miller

Benny does not find tossing a ball around or playing basketball helps his ADHD at all

What he does find is that is helps Will's obbsessive obsessive worrying about him.

So, in that sense, Ben likes it because 1. it's fun and 2. it's a rare chance where he can help Will. Will doesn't let people help him much

Benny looooooves trash TV

The Bachelor, Love after Lockup, Love is Blind

He likes shows he doesn'thave to pay a whole lot of attentionto.

Not that Benny isn't smart bc I haaaaate when people act like he isn't.

But with his ADHD (which I hc he has) he tends to have a lot of things going at once. He's not going to be able to sit down and fully commit to something like The Handmaid's Tale.

Will go head to head on country music with Will and Frankie

Hates Paw Patrol but his daughter likes Skye becuase she's a hellicopter/pilot dog so he allows it.

Loves being out in nature. He's trying ot instill a love of the outdoors in his daughter, but also loves pending time with the guy, or even by himself

When he's overwhelmed, Frankie likes to go for a walks in the woods.

Oddly enjoys mowing the lawn

#I've heard multiple stories in which a home gardener offered veggies to someone

#Like yeah. That's how plants grow. In the dirt. Including your precious perfectly clean Whole Foods potatoes

#And there's the human and environmental aspect too

#Like a person had to plant and harvest your vegetables and a person had to slaughter and pack your meat

#And there are nasty chemicals involved and there's the carbon emissions of shipping stuff from Florida to Maine etc

#That these people just. Don't think about. Because it's completely out of their worldview.

We'd be veering into some weird tangents on that OP, so I copied @palominocorn's tags here to comment on them further.

Because it's true. US Americans are, by and large, disconnected from food production in a way that I honestly was not equipped to understand based on where I grew up. Due to a combination of location and poverty, my family and community during childhood were heavily built around hunting for meat, farming for vegetables, and managing food waste through small animals (chickens, dogs, maybe a pig if you're rich/clever/weird enough to pen it, etc).

I didn't realize until the pandemic when "backyard chickens" became a "trend" just how separate my experience was from the norm.

I always perceived grocery stores as something for.... well. People with money to travel to them, growing up. We bought food there monthly in the winter, and saved our money on vegetable farming and hunting in the summer to afford it.

And I think what I've just described sounds like an unfathomable, impossible dreamscape from one of my solarpunk fantasies or whatever.

Or else sounds like a hellish monstrosity, if you're more familiar with rural poverty and food deserts.

But like... it's neither of those really. It's just... a food system that isn't as tied to the industrial complex as most in the US.

And that modest disconnect still sounds like a made up imagination world to most people in this country. That's how bad the disconnect between food, ALL food, and the average US American is.

And that's without even touching on the way foods native to various parts of the US are considered broadly inferior/filthy compared to colonial imports, including and especially with regards to meats.

Should you desire to answer: I think you had posted about herding dogs v. herd guarding dogs. Do people ever have both? Is there some reason someone -would- have both? Would the guard dog need to be shuffled off somewhere else while the herding dog was herding? Thank you for having an open askbox. And, if you do feel like providing any response, thank you for that as well.

Oh yeah lots of people have both! Especially big operations, like the big goat and sheep farms, totally. I think most places the LGD and herding dog kinda understand each other as coworkers but I'm sure there's ones where the LGD needs to be put up somewhere or tethered for the herding dog to work. Just depends on the setup and dogs. Like all the big operations I've visited have had multiple LGDs (usially pyr or anatolian) for each large pasture area, and they stay with the stock 24/7 to protect them. and then one or two border collies that they send in at various times to move the stock where they need them (e.g. in for milking and then back out to pasture, or from pasture to pasture, or into a squeeze chute for medication)

Disclaimer this is the places I've been to which have all been in Georgia Florida and South Carolina etc. Setups vary a lot! But long story short yeah plenty of folks have both bc they do very different but important jobs.

Nebraska is violent, not like Florida, and not like Maine. He is merciless, unforgiving, a dog meant to fight. Epsilon is a balance, he brings out the side of him that wasn’t trained to fight.

Epsilon knows Nebraska, knows him more than anyone will ever know him. They are so close, and then, after the Meta attacks The Mother of Invention, they are separated.

Nebraska—now Donut—tries his best to be what Epsilon brought out in him when he goes to Blood Gulch. He misses Epsilon when he is left by himself, now unsure of what to do.

Then, he meets Church, he knows all that Church is, but he knows he doesn’t remember. He sticks around at Blue Base, annoying Tucker and Sarge but he is close to Epsilon and that is all that matters.

Then Wyoming comes and fucks everything up. Wyoming knows him, calls him Nebraska, and Donut punches him, beats him into the ground. Nebraska has always been stronger than Wyoming.

There’s tension with Red Team now. Simmons is scared of him, Grif is cautious, Sarge wants him to attack the Blues. Donut doesn’t spend time at Red Base anymore, not when Epsilon feels more like home anyways.

When Donut talks about his family back at the farm, Church sits beside him and tries to understand why he already knows these stories.

Several days ago. Was coming inside from Feeding the Big Doggies. Couldn't see Tristan anywhere. Blew whistle, that's what I keep it on my treat pouch for. Tristan materializes somewhere around the cars and comes trotting.

At my feet, he deposits... um. A glittery, golden, shiny, moist... slug...?

HOLY CATS that's a fishing lure!

Oh *gasp*phew* thank goodness it's got no hook and it doesn't look like one was chewed out of it.

It was the crows, I guess. Probably picked up a shiny thing, and dropped it when they got bored--or outright gave it to him, they do that sometimes.

Guys, I apologize for not having a masterlist, everybody keeps asking me when I’m gonna do one and I’ve gotten a little disheartened about the writing as a result. I really, really wanna write again and I miss my inbox having alot of asks in them. If you think that's cool and you've never heard of body farms, look them up. They're places people donate their bodies to so we can study decomposition. I don't think there's any in the UK nor do i know of any in Europe either. The usa has a few, and there's some wild stories. My favourite is how a deer was caught on camera with a human rib bone in its mouth. I believe from then on they allow for anaml scavenging to some extent, so they can study it for forensic. There's also an underwater one in florida I think.

I've heard of them but ive never really looked into them! my husband said he might be able to get a placement and a sort of body farm thats used to train cadaver dogs on penmaenmawr mountain. there's this huge site where donated bodies are placed to train the dogs to sniff them out. im not sure if its officially a body farm but its interesting nonetheless. ive been reading all that remains by dame doctor sue black and she works with bodies donated to science and its so interesting
