sorry to disappoint you, anon, but i think natsume is the first manga i've read? graphical modes of storytelling are generally difficult for me to follow, so i don't read a lot of comic books, graphic novels, or the like. it takes so much effort generally for me to figure out a) who's speaking, b) what order i'm supposed to read the bubbles/panels in (even in western forms that are generally left to right), c) what exact action is happening, etc., etc., that often it's just not worth it to me. the only reason i'm reading the natsume manga is because i've already seen the show and thus can use my preexisting knowledge of the premise, characters, and plotlines as cheat codes to follow along with the manga.

the only other anime i've seen that's coming to mind is cowboy bebop, which i watched long enough ago that i don't really remember much specific about it except that i thought it was really good lol. that one would be fun to do a rewatch of.

so yeah i can't really help you here haha. but i'd love some recommendations from others, especially on anime series! not so much on manga because as stated before it's not my preferred medium.

Sooo, you can totally blame @kinky-asexual for this, if he didn’t tell me about a HC he had and I wasn’t craving an excuse to make a new au then it wouldnt have been born. Im excited to sketch more of this.

I’ve never been good at layout/structure and I’m still getting used to drawing fully bodies cos I avoid that as much as I can, so some of it might look stiff but I had no structure for this layout at all. It was pretty much a winging it moment. So some gonna look a little off.

Not 100% struck on how I’ve done it but too late to change 🤷‍♀️

Pokemon Z-A's Lumiose looks familiar

Veryyy similar layout to the finished transmutation circle from FMA its pretty spot on. The main tower looks very similar to an energy weapon. It's even the electric type gym in the future. Games linked to AZ who was pokemon's first war criminal. Do you understand what I am saying here

As a few people have mentioned your art has a lot of dynamic style and expression. But I also think there's something very- comic, about it.

Like, it's difficult to describe, but I kinda look at your work and go "Now this person knows what a good layout is", "They know their way around a comic page". You definitely have all the skills for it.

It's a very specific vibe that I can't quite name off the top of my head, but your style feels very inspired by the kind of comics I read when I was younger, even though it also feels completely new.

Tha's so cool, aaah man, thank you so much that's so awesome to hear! I grew up reading and watching a bunch of shounen manga and anime's, and I especially loved (and still love) One Piece and FullMetal Alchemist. I remember when I was like 13, as soon as I got my pay-check for delivering newspapers, I went to my local bookstore and bought one new One Piece volume from Carlsen Manga. Then I'd buy a coke and something from the baker and sit at home and just read it through, over and over again, until I could buy the next volume the following month haha.

Both One Piece and FMA were (and still are) huge sources of inspiration once I finally decided to give Bellum Pulchrum a go, in particular how Oda very sparingly uses screentones to separate foregrounds from backgrounds etc. Every time I get stuck, I'll read a few chapters to get into that very specific nostalgic feeling they convey, and start thumbnailing again.

Also, finally starting my comic certainly improved my illustrative work as well, it made me more confident and faster with my line-work, and I dared to actually make illustrations with more silly faces and extreme poses, rather than keeping everything "pretty" - which was a constraint I had put on myself in the past.

Any tips for drawing armour Alphonse and just the FMA style in general? (I'm working on an idea, and I want to get the characters to feels like belong in Amestris.)

Hi, I don't have a specific tip, except maybe that you find some of the character design lineart that was made for the anime - it shows all the lines and layout of the armour very clearly. Those images circulate around the internet, I'm sure you can find them. And if you want to study the armour in motion, best to do so looking at manga depictions rather than anime, because for the animation purposes they often cut corners and stretch / modify some details from shot to shot. I hope it's helpful in some way.

I know I say it a hundred times, but I'll say it a hundred more.... LOVE this character~ Such a dork, especially with Envy~ ewe And, it was nice to be able to make a more official-mimic art of her based on the FMAB anime Concept art, especially with her newly updated design~! (she's got the little FMA-ahoge~ ewe) Now, granted, it's not an exact mimicry of the official art. Compared to the Profile/Reference cards for '03 (which are much more stylistic), the reference cards for Brotherhood are more simplistic--typical studio concept arts where it's just a blank, off-white background with different poses and expressions of the character. So, for the Brotherhood style of Reference/Concept Art Cards, I took a bit more artistic liberty with designing the layout--namely the corner frames, which are based off of the Brotherhood Title Cards.

well, that was the first episode of saki.

in a way, it was slightly different from my impression while reading the manga, even when you don't count the fact that they ramped up the yuri subtext quite indulgently. still, because it's clear there is love put into this adaptation, i was able to enjoy it freshly even though this is the third version of these events i've experienced (i read saki:re, the genderbend version, after i read saki). i appreciated the small details added here and there, even the super subtle ones. i'm always saying this, but manga->anime adaptations these days are quite frankly largely lacking in substance, only aiming to completely mimic an entirely different medium 1:1. i'm getting pissed off that i'm praising saki for this, but it's true. i think there are ways to put love into an adaptation other than forced sakuga (30 fps abominations) and copying manga layouts to the letter. i'm not saying all adaptations these days are bad, but go watch any pre-2010 adaptation of anything you are familiar with and get back to me. you will feel the difference. (i blame this phenomena on FMA brotherhood and hxh 2011, but the real killer was dumbasses on twitter... anyway, this is my 50th time having this rant so sorry. by the way i like hxh 2011. but the early arcs are fucking rough.)

it was pretty fun offering my thoughts as i went, but i forgot how time consuming this was compared to just watching it normally. still, i think i'll continue this liveblog for sure. not to mention, this format on tumblr is way more flexible and i can blab on as much as i want, so look forward to more way too confident word salad from me.
