Les Arctic Monkeys rêvent encore d'être les Strokes et reprennent "Is This It"

"J’ai toujours voulu être l’un des Strokes", lance Alex Turner, en guise de retrouvailles sur le premier titre du sixième album des Arctic Monkeys, paru en mai dernier. Le 24 juillet au soir, ce rêve est devenu réalité pour le leader du quartet de Sheffield, à peu de choses près. Alors qu’ils se produisaient sur la scène du Forest Hills Stadium, dans le Queens, les Arctic Monkeys ont repris Is This It, le titre d’ouverture du premier album éponyme des New-yorkais, sorti en 2001.

Ce n’est pas la première fois qu’Alex Turner témoigne de son admiration pour le groupe de Julian Casablancas. En 2011, il expliquait au NME avoir écouté en boucle le premier album des Strokes lorsqu’il était au collège. "Beaucoup de gens était fans et beaucoup de groupes émergeant sonnaient comme eux. Je me rappelle avoir essayer consciemment de ne pas ressemblé aux Strokes, en supprimant délibérément de mes chansons des passages qui leur ressemblaient trop", assurait-il.

Depuis leurs débuts, les Arctic Monkeys ont multiplié les reprises des New-yorkais. Plusieurs vidéos circulent sur la toile notamment cette reprise de Reptilia, single phare du deuxième album des Strokes. Invités sur le plateau de Taratata en 2007, les Anglais s’étaient également attaqué au titre Take It Or Leave it. Il faudra encore être patient pour les voir reprendre l'excellent Trying Your Luck, le soit-disant "morceau préféré des Strokes" d'Alex Turner.

So excited to show you this outfit with an overblouse I sewn and embroider myself ! For the overblouse I created the pattern, and the embroidery pattern is based on a traditional ukrainian one. I'm really happy about this piece, it took me around 30 hours to embroider. It turned out exactly how I wanted and I'm grateful for that ! And it goes perfectly with this dirndl vintage skirt I found on Etsy 🖤❤️
