sorry to be posting about high school musical 2 in the year 2023 but ryan really repaired gabriella and troy's relationship by manipulating and humiliating his sister, lying to troy, and sacrificing his own chance at the talent show award he's been coveting since the start of the movie just because gabriella was nice to him when he was sad

Peter’s wet bug-eyed expression when Miguel is trying to slash open the Go Home Machine web is very funny and maybe I’m just inventing things to feel sad about. But I get the feeling this is the first time Peter has seen someone he reintroduced to Miles as a friend - someone he trusts with the safety of his daughter - lose himself so badly to the agonies, to the point where nothing they say is really reaching him.

#I love what you can read into about just how unspoken their friendship is #Miguel deflated back into just comical stressedannoyance when Peter and Mayday were around #Peter was THERE trying to help Miguel save a dimension they ALL think he inadvertently doomed #he was THERE when Gabriella died and then went on to have his own daughter #he trusts Miguel with her safety and doesn’t even feel the need to hover at all #also the comment about how he didn’t think they made the day passes for non babies shdhfjfjf the possibility that the day passes were #invented in the first place for mayday #like. they’re friends. and I think a big part of why he’s so shocked by Miguel going ham trying to open the web is that he hadn’t ever seen #miguel lose it this badly #the guy had his daughter disintegrate in his arms but he’s at work every day and seems soothed by mayday and then it’s like oh fuck #he was internally imploding the entire time and all that rage and fear and grief just explodes #tunes talks spiderverse

finally watching hsmtmts s4 lol, and these kids are so alien to me it’s so funny how I do not relate to the world these teenagers live in any more with their… tik toks and whatnot… like they’re sweet kids but honestly we’re miss jenn stans first and everything else second

This idea actually was a suggestion by someone who follows me on my DeviantArt who asked if there was a possibility of me doing an edit of Ariel and Gabriella having a reunion, since in my version of Return to the Sea, Melody's love interest is Gabriella's son, Alex. I thought it was a fun idea and I just had to do it. Since it's Mermay, this was the perfect time to do it. I had a lot of fun doing this and tried to have it look like the animation from Ariel's Beginning (HORRIBLE movie but it had the best animation). Gabriella is also a very underrated character. I hope you guys like it and comment letting me know what you think.

well ya see im here im queer and i had a Thought about high school musicals and now you're getting a s1 hsmtmts post

in season 1, seb gets cast as sharpay which is great and he gets to be flamboyant as it juxtaposes with his shyer real life personality and his massive farm family is super supportive and it's all sweet which i adore

however, i went on a rant about noel gruber and kurt hummel the other day bc look i had a crush on a girl who presumably wasn't into girls and my brain won't shut up about it and the fear of making her uncomfortable and being a predatory queer. this is fun when you're any flavour of fruit, but i have seen that it tends to be a particularly prevalent stereotype facing gay men (i'll put an addendum here that i'm not part of this community and i cannot speak to it, but i have seen several gay guys not liking this stereotype. wonder why /sarcasm)

so here's the Thought with hsmtmts. a decent part of sharpay's character (particularly in the second movie but it's still there in the original and i will not be getting into potential subtext here) is that she's into troy and he Does Not Like these advances. so, with gender bending, that makes sharpay explicitly gay (as opposed to the implicitly gay ryan evans) and, if troy is straight, predatory gay character. and sure, this would not be acknowledged as acceptable within the show (the high school's performance), but doesn't that seem a little off? honestly, even if seb were to suck it up and be grateful for the opportunity, carlos would not stand for this. and i doubt miss jenn would see it at first, but once it's pointed out to her/she figures out the issue (probably the first one lowkey) she would totally change the script for her students.

what's my theory? what's this idea that maintains the story of the characters but doesn't fall into harmful stereotypes?

in the east high production of high school musical troy bolton is canonically bisexual thank you for coming to my ted talk.

also it allows for a line like "i'm good with you being bisexual but NOT in theatre" from chad. and isn't that the dream?

#also why didn't they put seb sharpay in a skirt/dress? WEAK #ik sharpay did wear mostly pants in the canon original but shhhhhh #'i'm into men i'm just not into you' troy -> sharpay #this isn't perfectly 1-1 with the themes. bc hsm is very much a 'troy and gabriella realising they're bi' movie. straightest bisexual movie #and THEN there's a clearly fruity protagonist who is aligned with good throughout #AND IF RICKY BOWEN IS QUEER (friends? enemies? ...lovers?) THEN THERE'S MORE DEPTH TO THE STAGE ANXIETY MOMENT #i dont know if this is good. but *i* like it #hsmtmts #high school musical: the musical: the series #or however many colons there are #sharpay is a queer icon tho #this is just my take #i just think it'd be great if everyone were accepting of troy liking boys but to HELL if he liked *theatre*
