Credit to @dimoregallery The Scultura extendable low table by iconic Milanese artist-designer Gabriella Crespi is one of the pieces that represent an important part of the designer's life and production from the 1970s till now. Protagonist of the February 2020 set-up (visible in the bottom left corner), this metamorphic piece of furniture, in brass, was designed in 1976 and re-edited in 2019 for #Dimoregallery with volumes that play with the evolutionary possibilities of a single form, and vary in space. Gabriella Crespi “Her style is definitely inspiring. She had extraordinary taste, and her work was deeply personal, stemming from her inner passions and lifestyle. She was modern and daring, almost radical in her propositions. From her innate allure to the furniture she designed, everything was sophisticated yet unconventional, with a warm, human, sensuous feel to it. She was genius.” - Emiliano Salci, ‘Dimorestudio’. Born in Milan in 1922 to a distinguished family she married the young scion of the aristocratic Crespi clan, owners of the ‘Corriere della Sera’ daily newspaper. With their sweeping organic shapes and hints of exoticism, Crespi’s furniture designs feel at times eerily futuristic; at others, they strike you more as the relics of some ancient civilisation. Light bounces off her angular brass, steel and lacquer tables, while her mushroom-shaped Plexiglas lamps suggest the more psychedelic side of the 1970s. Her daughter Elisabetta, who was head of production, now guards her legacy through the ‘Crespi Archive’. Crespi’s work is more relevant than ever.
