just watched Elephant 6 documentary and wow. my first thought is to watch it again. And then again, to screenshot half of it
but seriously, it's so nicely chaotic yet tells the story so well. I'm not sure if people who know nothing about it will be able to keep up, mostly through how it is edited but also there are lots and lots of people appearing with little to no explanation (and out of infinite number of E6 bands that are mentioned/shown only 4-5 are introduced, rest just is there?) and there is a story and it's very well told but almost in the subtext, at places you can start wondering ok, but why and what are they trying to tell? yet it leaves you with that bit of a history of the collective and most importantly, with so, so many anchorage points for further consideration. it's not finishing the story, it only tells it and leaves you with any take you want to get from it - inspires to create art, to build communities, explains why it could happen then and couldn't now, whatever else or nothing at all.
It kinda looks like a very long music video and it's a bit tiring but at the same time, it is so good - visuals and the way it's put together show and underline what is happening in the music and the story so well. it really enhances the chaos and creativity and similarities and differences between the bands and their music. for someone like me, who's kind of colorblind for the sound, this was a great visual aid that explained some things.
It's also either me (which is very much possible, yk that i'm monothematic) or they wanted to show Julian Koster as much as possible and in a very flattering way, even tho it's not that fitting or relevant to the story they're trying to tell? like they wanted to show him but weren't really sure how to fit it in the narrative so they just sprinkled him in places and rolled with it? he's one of the artists that appear in the movie a few times in various contexts, in lots of footage or to just tell those few almost self-contained stories or comments, yet is never explained in any other way. which is kind of fitting. whoever made those decisions (and chose all those brilliant photos and footage), thank you
and they treated Bill Doss' passing so well (not like some articles or 'Endless Endless' which is an absolute disgrace in this regard), without being indelicate or sensationalizing it or forcing viewer to be sad. Here it's as unexpected in the story as it was in reality, beautifully moving but in a tactful way that sympathizes with loss, personal and artistic, showing how important it was and how it's not the end. thank you.

Saw Devotion and absolutely loved it. I had no previous knowledge of the story until I saw the first trailer and looked it up on Wikipedia, so I knew how it was going to end. But even knowing how it was going to end, it was still an incredible movie and I could tell how much passion Glen put into it. And all of the other actors were just as amazing. Especially the guy playing the squadron commander!

A KARMALAND ANIMATIC? WITH QUACKITY? YES!
This is not based on canon lore, the creator says "I just like Villain Quackity" so just enjoy, and this is not mine either I am just sharing.
I put the link to the animatic in the "Yes", so you go to YouTube and give the creator views, leave a like, a comment and maybe watch other animatics!
Down is some spoilers and a bit of context but read after seeing. :]
If you want context, k!Luzu is the one with the hoodie on, and last season had an evil arc. First he introduces k!Vegetta that is the closer thing to an admin or a leader so maybe he wants to k!Q to get rid of him? Idk also he is implying to k!Quackity to don't trust the other members that appear in each side since the 0:19 and neither k!rubius that is with his hood down and bear ears even if he invited him.
So yeah, just give love to the animatic even if the comments are in english just give love.

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.
like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

Of the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept 11 attacks:
15 were from Saudi Arabia (a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)
2 were from the United Arab Emirates (also a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)
1 was from Egypt, 1 from Lebanon.
None of the hijackers were from Iraq.
None of the Sept 11 hijackers were Iraqi.
None of the 9/11 hijackers were from Iraq.
