To Grieve and Breathe (and what remains)

The Temple of the Ancients always felt so empty, a sense of life is just void from the entire temple. Goldenmoon had no idea how the previous stewards and caretakers could stand it, especially those who were there before, when Juno was more than a statue, and was instead a life. To see one’s leader, someone they knew, a friend, be brought to nothing but a casing of marble. it’s unimaginable, but somehow Goldenmoon would get glimpses of it, soft whispers of what once was echoing in their mind. But they never lasted long. What a sense of relief, there was just such a wrongness to them.

Goldenmoon was never meant to be here, never supposed to care for the temple and Juno. The temple was a haven and place of worship for the direwolves and sabertooth tigers, but they have been gone for as long as and longer than Goldenmoon knows. And thus, there was no one left to act as steward among them. It only fell to them because the temple was meant for the tigers and wolves. Greely and his wolves were more focused on finding the direwolf Heartstone, and being Sir Gilbert’s chancellor meant they were the proper animal to be the temple's guardian. They were told it was an honor to serve and care for the Temple of the Ancients, but what honor is there in fulfilling a role never meant for you in the first place? What honor is there in guarding a corpse and its massive tomb? In protecting the dead to the point of abuse by not letting them rest? Where grief and despair is displayed on every wall?

Goldenmoon started making small changes to the temple in hopes of making it more inviting. It was a place of life and community, and it should become that again. Grief of what was lost was important and they wanted to celebrate the sacrifices made, so they opened the temple as a museum for Jamaans to learn of the animals before them.

The entrance to the temple was now filled with information on how animals of the past were preserved. Fossils embedded in the ground, amber keeping insects preserved, much like Juno. Maybe that way the new Jamaans are less on-edge by what remains of Juno; a sculpture staring down at all who enters then becomes another form of the past lasting into the present. Something no longer meant to be feared.

Sir Gilbert barged into the temple in the middle of one day in such a rush, unlike any other time Goldenmoon had ever had with him. Something must have happened.

“Goldenmoon, come down here quick, tell me what you know of why Juno sacrificed themself. I fear the enemy Juno faced is one we are facing now.” Sir Gilbert spoke.

“I’m sorry, but in spite of being the keeper of this temple, I know very little about it. The archives detailing the specifics of attacks were lost in the drowning of Balloosh.” Goldenmoon replied in a solemn tone. “I have heard nothing of any enemy attacks, what has happened?”

“These bizarre toxic creatures with six appendages have started attacking the citizens on the outskirts of Jamaa, and we have no solution to stopping them except on an individual level, and they have only just been realized and created. It’s not a feasible solution to actually be able to do anything. I hoped there were some notes left by the priests and scholars of this temple from when it was attacked. It would have given us ideas for answers to these foul things.”

"Oh, great Mira, that’s awful, I can take another look into what few records remain, what options do we have now?”

“We have boomseeds and chomper plants, both created by Cosmo, and can be used on land. In the water, there’s only whirlpearls, however, no one, not even Graham, knows how they are made, or even where to get more. Please, if you find anything, let me know.” He said, turning to leave the temple. “You know how to reach me.”

Goldenmoon wished he would have stayed longer, there was still so much they didn’t know about the situation at hand. Since when did Jamaa have to deal with such a disgusting six-legged infestation? But, Goldenmoon had no place to demand anything of their Alpha, especially given his position as a warrior and commander. He had more important issues at hand then to deal with their worries.

They left the entrance of the hall and hurried down the stairs leading to the record room, with the stench of paper and musk suffocating their nose. The cramped space was such a contrast to the rest of the temple; in the beginning, Goldenmoon would spend most of their time in this room, but they knew better now. The life that was so absent in the atrium of the temple was all too present down below. A welcomed relief of belonging and community swiftly became a heavy weight of grief and despair that clung to every word and page in every inch of the room.

As quick as Goldenmoon could while not being negligent, they glanced through what few books had not succumbed to the life of mold, mulch or water. It was for naught. There was nothing left mentioning anything of the threat faced before, except for the final note Juno left for those who survived. It provided no additional information, a simple letter that had already been analyzed and annotated from the moment it was first read, the scholars’ notes making the initial message almost incomprehensible. It said that Balloosh was sunk and Juno with the help of the direwolf Heartstone sealed it away. But, that didn’t destroy the enemy, just got rid of the target of their corruption. There was nothing, no information, nothing to be done about the monsters creeping up Jamaa’s land, tearing it down. Maybe the Temple of Zios would provide answers or, at least some insight. Goldenmoon could only hope.

Little dragon art thingy.

I told you all they were ugly, so I'm drawing them. I've gotten to the guidelines and examples colorings of Goldenmoon. Yes, I know when Rainwings are sad they are a dark grayish blue. Well, Goldenmoon kind of already IS that, but I am going to make some splotches. At the end, Goldenmoon will be in the back, and Leaftwister and Sunrise will be fighting infront of her. Since the drawing is focusing on her disappointment and sadness that the two friends are fighting, the "camera" is focused on her, leaving Sunrise and Leaftwister with a little blur on them.

I'm trying to keep the colors pleasing for the eye, am I succeeding?
