In fact, they were a leader among their peers and made sure everyone was healthy and well. When they started developing magic, they kept it hidden in fear they weren't going to be looked at the same way. Eventually, around 14 years old, Navy was adopted by two sorcerers, two dads that love them very much. The two parents were supportive through every struggle, getting help for their difficulty hearing and expressing themselves. Unfortunately, they were labelled the "weird kid" growing up in middle school and high school, but tried not to let it bother them too much. Navy's magic started becoming an annoyance when looking for a stable career as a mechanic, so they became a part-time apprentice under one of their two dads. During this apprenticeship, the other dad gave them Hazel. And then, they were dropped into the Devildom, but were by no means happy with it.

The day finally arrived for Kodi to leave home for university. She'd be living on campus at Foxbury while she studied computer science. She promised to call often and begged them to come visit her once she was settled in (which made Isaac very happy). Emilee and Isaac were so sad to see her go, but incredibly proud of her accomplishments. She'd already mailed her belongings to her dorm, so all that was left was to catch a plane.

(Also -obviously- Emilee and Isaac aged into elders and I had some lovely shots of their birthdays and then my computer crashed. Sadness.)

kodi woke up to the feeling of a blanket being put over her shoulders, it was still dark outside and she still felt the effects of the weed meaning she hadn't slept for long. the sound of the music stopped, leaving the sound of the trees and wind by itself.

she looked up to see eren, putting a blanket that was rested on the couch on top of her. eren chuckled awkwardly. "I didn't wanna wake you up" he said scratching the back of his neck. kodi nodded, not realizing she had even fell asleep. she sat up slowly and patted the seat next to her, gesturing for eren to sit down. he did as instructed, taking a good look at her face as he did. the light from the back door lit up the porch poorly, but it was well enough to see her swollen eyes. though eren didn't have sisters, he'd been around enough women to understand why her eyes were that way.

"what's wrong?" he asked softly. kodi took the blanket, wrapping it around herself as she shook her head. "nothing, why?" she responded, not bothering to look eren in the eye. "you're lying"

"why do you care" she said, still staring into nothing, listening to the leaves rustle as the wind blew. they remained silent for a while, listening to how the city sounded at 3am. "because I like you" he responded. kodi shook her head again. "no you don't.. you liked fucking me" she said, trying to pull herself into a reality. she wanted to believe eren liked her, she wanted to believe he wanted to get to know her as much and she wanted to get to know him. "you sat there with your girlfriend the entire time, you hugged her, laughed with her, kissed her... how could you do that then come here and say you like me eren?" her eyes began to water again, she didn't know how she felt about eren, or jean at that. all she knew was that they both claimed to like her, then sat in front of her holding other women.

she was the second option, again. she was second after her brother, after her sister, after mariah, after kendoll. what did they do that she couldn't? why were they special and she wasn't? "mariah doesn't deserve this" she said, letting the tear escape her eye. she wiped it quickly, hoping eren wouldn't catch it.

"if I leave her will you give me a chance?" eren asked, he turned to her face, watching as she looked at the leaves. she shook her head again. "no.. you lose em how you get em" she said. "I wouldn't cheat on you" he looked up at the trees with her.

"you probably told mariah the same thing" she rested her head on his shoulder. eren looked up into the stars. he wanted to know so much more about kodi, he could tell she put up a shell around almost everyone. he'd spent he entire day with her, yet didn't learn anything about her, other than the fact that she likes peanut butter & jelly and doesn't smoke. he'd planned to leave mariah, even though he didn't know if he had a chance with kodi, it was a risk he would take. "why were you crying"

"did your parents tell you happy birthday this year?" she answered his question with another. "mine didn't. they didn't forget, couldn't have. they don't care enough." she said, feeling her eyes water again. eren stayed silent. before he could respond the back door opened again. "fuck yall doing out here?" kayden walked out the door.

"you look like shit" he said looked at his sister, who's eyes were almost swollen shut. "why you on him like that" he said, just now noticing her head was on his shoulder. kodi lifted her head, not bothering to respond to her brother. she stood up, walking past him to go into the house. she was surprised to find everyone still awake. she looked around, getting a look of everyone that was supposedly sleeping over. "hey kodi" kendoll said, too energetically for the time of day it was. kodi ignored her, walking straight to her room where nalani was. "hey lani" she said. nalani sat on kodi's bed, she was watching the tv. "hey bookie" she said looking at her friend. "you coming to sleep?" she asked as she grabbed the remote turning the volume down. "no" she said shortly. kodi climbed into her bed next to nalani, who's eyes were glued to the tv. she laid down, listening to the background noise of vampire diaries as she scrolled through her phone. "he said he would leave her for me"

nalani sighed. "kodi"

"I know but maybe he'll act right for me" kodi sat up straight. trying to convince herself more than anything. "we gotta try at least." she said. nalani didn't bother, when kodi had her mind on something she wouldn't stop until she was physically proven wrong. "fuck it" nalani said. her eyes stayed focused on the tv. she thought about when she first met kodi, how she'd never imagine they'd become this close. she thought about how she knew everything about kodi, how she comforted her when her sister died, how she forced her parents to take her to every soccer game, how she tried to bake her a cake for her 16th birthday and almost set her house on fire. she thought about how much she loved kodi, how it hurt seeing her deal with less than she deserved. "what about jean?" she asked, kodi didn't answer which was an answer in itself.

nalani was lost in thought until the door was knocked on. "yes?" kodi answered. jean opened the door, shirtless and sleepy. "they got food" he said, barley opening his eyes.

nalani and kodi both looked at each other, nalani shrugged. "I am lowkey hungry" she said. that was all kodi needed to get off her bed and eat whatever they had. nalani walked out first, kodi followed as if she was a scared child in a grocery store. the smell of pizza found both of them quickly. kodi looked around the room briefly before going to grab a plate.

"see it's chill" kayden said to kodi as she grabbed a slice of cheese pizza. kodi looked at him, rolling her eyes shortly after. she wasn't necessarily mad at her brother, she was upset he didn't consider asking her to use her space, she was upset that her opinion didn't matter, she was upset because it never did. kodi began walking back to her room with the plate in her hands, not wanting to be around anyone in the house at the moment. "kodi, where you going?" kendoll called out to her. kodi turned around, looking back at everyone looking at her. she didn't say anything because she knew if she did it wouldn't be anything nice. "you don't like us or something?" she joked

"not really no.." she said as her eyes scanned the room. nalani pinched her temple at her response. kodi lacked any social skills that permitted her to be nice, ever. kendolls face changed from an amused expression to a confused one. "huh?"

"huh?" she mocked her confusion. kodi didn't know kendoll, she did know she didn't like her. nalani attempted to chuckle silently, failing miserably as the room was dead silent. "good night" kodi said, walking into her bedroom and closing the door behind her.

"fuck wrong with her?" kayden asked eren. eren shrugged in response, avoiding eye contact with him. "what was yall talking about out there?" he asked again curious as to why his long time friend was now being to secretive. eren shrugged again, this time not wanting to tell her business. kayden side eyed him, looking at connie next. kayden and connie shared one brain, when something clicked for connie it clicked for kayden and vice versa. "I thought she'd be more chill like kayden" kendoll mumbled, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear, but not for the person behind the door to.

"can we just eat" jean said, still half asleep but tired of hearing about kodi.

Even though she'd never cooked before, Kodi was determined to bake a birthday cake for her Dad (She's a total Daddy's girl, they're best friends). It came out great for her first try! Happy birthday, Isaac! Emilee and Kodi got him a brand new electric guitar. (Emilee had her birthday the next day and Isaac and Kodi got her a new tablet)
