Over your years at Alpha Tauri, you developed a habit with your driver; a sweet treat left behind as a peace offering when something went wrong. This time, Yuki was the one leaving the sweet treat.

It had been a long week, three weeks actually.

You had been on a triple header and everyone was getting sick of seeing each other. It's the last long stint before the holiday break, everyone was jet lagged and tired and agitated.

The holidays couldn't come sooner.

Being a press officer meant you were with your driver almost all the time. Yuki seemed to be the most on edge. There was a mishap during free practice, Yuki taking out his anger on you and his driver's room.

"Your yelling isn't going to do anything." You tell him, leaning on the wall. "I didn't do anything wrong! Carlos turned into me!"

"But you yelling at me is going to do.. what exactly?"

Yuki rolls his eyes, pushing past you and storming out of his driver's room, leaving you in there. You walk out behind him, leaning in the doorway as you yell at him.

"I didn't do anything wrong either! You don't get to walk away!" You shout at him, slamming the driver's room door shut as you storm off in the other direction.

This was usual for the two of you. You and Yuki tended to bicker and fight all the time but you always made up. One of you would leave a sweet treat for the other, a peace offering of sorts.

This time, it wouldn't be you.

You two went into the holiday break on bad terms, the two of you barely spoke the entire weekend you had left together.

Now that you were home, you didn't want to think about racing until it was time to go back in March. You were going to use the winter break to unwind and relax, starting now; you were on the couch relaxing, trying to pick out a Christmas movie to watch.

There's a knock on your door, it takes you a second to untangle yourself from your blanket and make it to the door. Peeking out of the peephole, you didn't see anyone but you opened the door just to make sure.

A giant gift basket sat on your welcome mat, you picked it up and carried it inside.

Carefully wrapped in cellophane, you undo it to find a bottle of wine, an assortment of Christmas cookies in all different shapes. There's a note shoved into the corner of the basket, beside the bottle of wine.

Pulling it out, you unfold it to read what it says.

I'm sorry, forgive me

Yuki.

You set the note now, looking for your phone to call the man. He picks up after 2 rings. "Hello?"

"Hey," you say, "I got your basket."

"Do you like it?" He asks quietly.

"Yeah, and I forgive you. Even though you're annoying."

Yuki laughs, you can sense the relief. You were both too stubborn to apologize, hence why you left things the way you did but it was nice that you've fixed it.

"Since you forgave me, I'm coming up." He says and your brows furrow. "What do you mean you're coming up?"

"I dropped it off and ran away," he chuckled, you can hear his car room shut in the background.

"Okay," you laughed. "The door's open, just come in."

You hung up, setting your phone down as you put some of the cookies on a plate. The front door opens and closes, you can see Yuki make his way to the kitchen. "Can I stay?" He asks and you shout back a yes after you hear the clinking of the wine glasses.

Yuki meets you on the couch, the glasses now being filled with the wine from the basket as you see the plate of cookies down, tossing the blanket over your lap.

"We're okay?" He passes a glass to you.

You nod, tapping your glass to his gently. "Perfect."

basic post for if you want to get into superformula

superformula is the top flight of motorsport in japan, home to the fastest single seaters after f1. it's been around since 1973, which is quite a while!

4 races of the season may have passed but it is not too late and since there is increased interest this year i thought people might want to know, so...

the format

there are 22 cars and 2 groups of qualifying, Q1A and Q1B. the top 6 of each group then go on to fight for pole in Q2. each session is 7 min long.

the polesitter gets 3 points, starting p2 gets you 2 points, starting p3 gets you 1 point. this makes qualifying more important than other series imo

the races are typically 40ish laps; over 250km. you are given 2 sets of tyre compounds and you need to use both during the race, which means everyone must pit at some point. expect strategies like an f2 feature race.

the race winner gets 20 points. p2 gets 15, p3 gets 11, p4 gets 8, p5 gets 6. p6 down to p10 gets 5 to 1 point.

the drivers

they are mostly japanese, clearly. the radio and bulk of the onsite interviews are in japanese, but english comms will translate so i think it's not a problem. also the interviewer switches languages at the drop of a hat she's insane (in a good way).

i'm going to introduce the names you might have heard of in other series. but shoutout to tomoki nojiri, the current reigning champion.

ok. if you're reading this chances are you've heard of liam lawson (#15) and his exploits in this series thus far. one of marko's twinks-in-waiting and arguably the most promising one rn. has had a decent amount of lore in his career for his age thanks to dtm. and twitch 💀 bffs with yuki tsunoda and appeared on dts bc of it

ryo hirakawa (#20), the beloved little brother in the toyota gazoo racing #8, won le mans and the wec wdc as a rookie. youngest ever super formula driver. has come close, but has never won the championship. which he should bc he's won super gt and japan f3 already and if he wins this it's the japanese triple crown. bffs with nick cassidy of fe championship leader fame (sorry i had to mention it somehow)

kamui kobayashi (#7), who is somehow driving and being his own team principal in wec (where he coincidentally also drives a toyota #7). was in f1, has multiple wec titles to his name. but no super formula title either. in fairness i doubt it was ever his main focus. still fun to have him around.

if you've followed f2 since like 2018? you'll recognise some names such as nirei fukuzumi #12 (cousin nirei if you follow albon_pets, also has been sf vice-champion), nobuharu matsushita #50 (the embodiment of that tomato girl aesthetic on tiktok), giuliano alesi #36 (son of the jean alesi), and cem bolukbasi #55 (most recent f2 to sf grad alongside liam)

Cooking is what struck me first and you bet that it will be the number one activity where you two spend the most time together. You watch cooking shows together and then you prepare the meals from said shows yourself. You experiment with tastes and share cooking knowledge with each other. No gatekeeping. Also I see Yuki preparing your favourite food for you on anniversaries and special occasions. He pays extra attention to what you like and what isn’t really your cup of tea.

When you are alone, he daydreams of his restaurant and tells you how everything would look, that you would be there too and he would live a happy life somewhere with you by his side.

Sports are his thing, not training though. His motivation for him to go to a gym would be your promise of playing something with him afterwards. Either playing tennis or kicking a football around. Whatever the weather lets you to do. Here is where your competitiveness and his clash and you play until both of you fall down on the floor drenched in sweat.

He would totally take you out on a date when he’s racing in Japan. He would show you his favourite spots, buy you his favourite snacks and totally make you meet his parents. Even if you don’t want to he will trick you into coming to his childhood home. Because he knows his parents will love you.

You two would share a playlist where you recommend songs to each other. To broaden your horizons in music. Music would be playing in your shared home any chance it can. Watching Netflix would happen after a tough race, just to let some steam of and enjoy something else for a while.

You wanted nice hair? You GOT it. His beautiful raven hair would scream at you to play with it! His hair is so soft and he never has a bad hair day. You don’t know how but you don’t even want to. You just want his soft head in your lap.

You two are a Capricorn/Taurus duo which means you trust each other immensely. You find comfort in each other and there would hardly ever be an argument. You would take each others insights on stuff and implement it together so that both sides are happy, even if it takes time, but you always get there.

When you first met, you both were kinda introverted, but he did notice you. Not sure if you felt the same way he did, he would wait a bit and then approach you. I think warming up to each other wouldn’t take THAT long, since you both would be shy at first but eventually work your way into a relationship finding out you share interests.

But his long-suffering press officer isn't going to let him go down without a fight, and what better way to quell the rampant accusations of homophobia than telling the world that Devon and Aiden are dating? Sure, there's the pressing issue that they've been vicious enemies on and off track since F3, and Aiden is convinced Devon is straight, and Devon is secretly hopelessly in love with Aiden, and their prying teammates know a little more about this kind of situation than they're letting on. But they've only got to keep this up until the summer break. It should be easy. And after all, as the saying goes: keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...

DATA DEEP DIVE: Did the double-stack cost Russell a top-5 finish in Japan?

Mercedes’ George Russell finished outside the top five for only the second time this season after a disappointing Japanese Grand Prix – but was he compromised by Mercedes’ strategy at Suzuka? Russell has had an impressive debut season with Mercedes, beginning 2022 with nine consecutive top-five finishes before retirement at Silverstone, which was then followed by another six-straight top fives – of which four were podiums. In Singapore, he finished 14th, and in Japan he took P8 – but could he have had a better result with a different strategy? Qualifying woes Russell qualified eighth in Japan as he said that his Mercedes W13 was not “slippery” on the straights – drag costing the Silver Arrows as Russell fell behind the Alpine drivers and Lewis Hamilton qualified between them in sixth. READ MORE: Mercedes drivers say their ‘weakness was truly exposed’ in Suzuka qualifying after taking P6 and P8 Our ‘ideal lap’ analysis (graph below) implies that, if every driver strung together their fastest three sectors in Q3, Hamilton and Fernando Alonso may have been able to out-qualify Esteban Ocon, but Russell might actually have fallen to P9 on the grid behind Lando Norris. Pit lane loss Russell ended up finishing eighth on Sunday, behind the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel and the Alpine of Alonso, and the Briton said Mercedes needed to “review” what they could have done better in Japan. He said it had been a “difficult double-header” as he left Singapore and Japan with just four points to his name. Indeed, the Lap 7 double-stack pit stop, in which Russell was pitted for intermediate tyres behind team mate Hamilton, did cost the #63 driver considerable time. He spent 28.7 seconds in the pit lane compared to Hamilton, who spent 25 seconds in the pit lane. Russell therefore lost nearly four seconds in the pit lane and it's estimated that he lost another six seconds as others who had pitted earlier made gains on intermediates. Without that delay of 10 seconds, Russell might have only lost two positions to Lando Norris and Nicholas Latifi, instead of three as Yuki Tsunoda also jumped ahead of him. WATCH: Verstappen's joy, Russell's frustration and confusion over tyres - it's the best team radio from Japan With a fresh tyre advantage, Russell could have passed Norris and Latifi, and, according to our race trace, passed Alonso for P7 when (and if, in this case) the two-time champion pitted a second time on Lap 22. Russell could have passed Vettel by Lap 25 and opened a three-second gap to Vettel and Alonso with, by our estimations, a maximum of P6 on Sunday.
