*GOOFY AHHH TUTUORIAL*

lesson 2: getting started on psds!!

hit "read more" if interested!

** NOT ALL PSDS ARE FILTERS, PSDS ARE USUALLY BASES THAT YOU CAN OPEN UP. PSDS ARE PHOTOSHOP FILES THAT YOU CAN OPEN UP AND EDIT WITH ALL OF THE LAYERS. THIS IS A TUTORIAL FOR A FILTER PSD (aka, making your OWN filters) **

hey there!! welcome to lesson 2. you don't need to tune in on lesson 1 to understand this, because it was just about finding editing programs and finding tutorials and motivation, so if you already know about all of that, you are basically prepared for this lesson.

this is a tutorial for PHOTOPEA, idk if this works anywhere else. also, this is INTENDED FOR A COMPUTER. (ex: dragging and dropping files and all of that stuff)

STEP 1: the first thing you may* see when going into photopea is this screen:

drag any image into the box that says "drop any files here" if you are a noob and don't know how to drag and drop files you can find a tutorial here. anyways, like i was saying drag and drop any image.

now it should look something like this (but instead of the hatsune miku image its the image that you prefer):

STEP 2*****: now that you have your image, look at the symbols at the bottom right corner. you should see this folder image (folder is circled in red)

you should click the folder button. now you have created a folder. this is going to be the filter.

now that you have the folder down, before proceeding further make sure that its HIGHLIGHTED

go a little bit above the corner, and you folder should be highlighted like this

if its not, just click on it.

now that its highlighted go back to that right corner and click this half circle button that i circled in red

once you click it, this should pop up

i usually hit the "selective color button" first

it usually presents you with this:

at the top of the image, you should see the "colors" button, thats the color you are editing. click it and choose the color you want to edit. you can edit how much a certain color is in a color lol. if yk what i mean.

now i spent a little bit of time editing the selective color, and you can see that the image looks a little different. scroll up to the original image on stop one to see what im talking about! you can add many selective colors until your satisfied!

as you can see, i've added another selective color!

now, right below selective color, (back in the half circle menu) you can see "replace color" this is what it looks like (i've already edited it but you get the idea)

you can choose a color to make FUZZY** and after you do that, you can change the hue, saturation, and lightness to your liking.

here is what my miku image looks like after FUZZINESS**, not a big difference but u can still kinda see it.

STEP 3*****: after you've done that, go back to the half circle menu and close to the top but not all the way, you can see "curves". they look like this:

now you can bend them and destroy them to your liking.

(the higher UP you make your curve go, the lighter it gets, the more LOW you make your curve go, the darker it gets. it also does some other stuff too***. just keep on breaking and bending it to your liking.)

now this is what my filter looks like

STEP 4*****: after your done with abusing and breaking lines now go back to half circle menu and find "color balance". it should look like this

its already edited but whatever (everyone thing should start at zero) but just move the circle more towards the color that you want there to be more of. also hit the range thing to effect more then just the shadows.

now heres what it looks like:

the difference is VERY small****, but you can see that theres more green and cyan + blue when you look closer.

Step 5*****: near the curves thing, you should see "brightness/contrast" you should probably hit that. and it should look like this

adjust it to your liking! its already been adjusted in the image as you can see but still.

Step 6*****: now if you hit the half circle button and look a little bit BELOW curves you should see "vibrance" it also has a saturation button but just drag the circle to your liking.

Step 7*****: next is "photofilter" its in the half circle button in the middle. if you want more of a certain color, click on the orange box to change it. here is what it should look like btw:

also the "density" is how much the color effects the image.

step 8: also, near the "photofilter" in that middle row a little bit above it, there is hue/saturation. its pretty explainable what it does, but just adjust the circles to your liking.

.. * i HOPE your photopea looks like that, it SHOULD. if it doesn't look like that your PROBABLY not on photopea.. your probably on some alien website or something. ** I honestly don't know what "fuzziness" means yet so i'm just as confused as you are. *** other stuff being: change of colors, making the image more red (making it look like it took place in hell!) interverting the image, making the colors more gray. **** honestly a lot of the options make the difference very small ***** you don't need to use ALL of these options if you don't WANT TO. i honestly don't use photo filter for most of my edits.

!!!!!?!?!?! HELLO i'm madly in love with how your message makes me want to draw forever, thank you oh my god! i'm so touched because i feel like you listed my weaknesses, especially with how i put panels together lol i'm a serial stacker, whenever i think of a comic it plays out in my mind in motion, like a short cartoon, so it's hard for me to visualise it on a page rather than just a series of events... I probably should get more creative with my panelling but hey, you've made me feel incredibly valid with what i'm doing, thank youuu <3

Honestly, i've been struggling a lot with drawing this year. im hoarding an ungodly amount of WIPs/ideas that date back to 2020 but i started to feel like there was nothing to them (less than that, like, just an obnoxiously boring eyesore), and that extended to the things i've already drawn & shared, and i'm still self-conscious that when i post this, anyone who reads it might wonder why im even getting a message like this :''D as if people are gonna be that judgemental! but I do really feel like i'm getting back on track with drawing again! i want to work on some old comic ideas and i'm excited about it!

there's just one obstacle: i can't draw connor's fucking eyes,,, i just can't get the endearing googlyness of them and never have and im determined to learn. but I swear i'm so close to just photoshopping his actual eyes over the drawings or drawing them in a different animation style for every panel.

but anyway, thank you so much for this and im so sorry for going off on a tangent, i commit such bad ask response etiquette because i cant shut up about my emo tions. .. i'm just excited about being excited to draw again! and you've really helped me find that giddiness today!! thank you again!

Day 1

Today is the first day of my blog :), today was pretty good, but i couldn’t find my student ID and i was freaking the fuck out! I texted my mom and she said not to worry about it and that i can just ask for a new one. I was nervous to but i went along. Then i got to on the bus with my friend rayna and i asked her if she could get my new ID with me since i was nervous, she said yes and we finally got to the school where we saw some older women standing in a hall. “Hey she forgot her ID” rayna said “First period.” the lady said we were confused but didn’t care that much, if anyone asked about my ID i would just tell them what was going on. Then we headed straight for the gym like we were told we sat there and waited to be allowed to walk to class, i forgot what my first class was called but we basically learn how to photoshop, animate, and code a little. My teacher (let’s call her Mrs.Tech) gave us our new schedule because the decided to change it i guess? Mrs.Tech asked us some weird questions though, like no relation to the class questions? “Is Cardi B better than Niki Minaj?” weird af but go off i guess. Then i went to my second class which was math, due to our schedule change my other friend Jaida was in my math block :D my teacher (lets say Mrs.Math) kept on talking about shrek and other stuff, then we heard the school speakers go on “if you do not have your ID badge then please come down to the library.” The women on the speaker repeated what she said once more as i made eye contact with Mrs.Math and pointed to my neck where my ID badge should’ve been. She sent me down to the library where i got my picture taken and the printed out my ID. IT LOOKED LIKE A MUGSHOT PHOTO. It was so embarrassing but it’s better than what the original picture was lol. fast forward a couple classes because i’m tired and my fingers hurt, i made a friend named Carter and he’s really nice to me! he kinda looks like that gay kid from south park (the pic should be down there) but we hung out a lot and then i went to lunch where i found my other friends and we joked around about my ID and my squished nutella sandwich i had made that same morning (note to self, get a container next time instead just a ziplock baggie) time skip again and it’s dismissal, i get on my bus and go home. ANOTHER TIME SKIP IM SORRY ITS GETTING LATE 4 ME!! i’m eating dinner with my mom and we’re talking about me moving in with her in maybe a month because we both think i’ll be happier with her than my dad. I can talk more about that soon if you guys want. then we go take a walk and just talk about stuff from when my parents were together. then i’m back home where my dad is being a bit of a bitch but i’m sure he was just tired <:). now i’m here :D! also there are a lot of pretty alt girls that go to my school! I made sure they knew that. now i’m in bed about to head to sleep while listening to spotify in a dark super hot room. Stay safe sweethearts!

hey, bet you've got a whole bunch of asks just floating in out of your inbox like this already, buuut do you think you'll ever finish everlasting party? or even just do writing for the fandom again? your writing pieces were all so captivating and so beautifully characterized and JUST INCREDIBLE. even if you decide not to get back into writing it mind maybe giving some hints on how you planned for the story to go BECAUSE IM LITERALLY DYING TO KNOW. binge read the whole thing in one night and can't get over it!

You know, you’ve given me a great excuse to finally write a post about this anon, ‘cause I have a surprising amount to say on the topic ^^ But first, thank you so much for your kind words! I do look back fondly at the things I wrote for the Mystic Messenger fandom and I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed reading them as well.

So, here’s a Q&A-style answer to things I get asked about Everlasting Party and what I’m doing in the MysMe fandom nowadays (after the cut):

Why did you stop writing Everlasting Party?

At the time I believe I’d gotten rather overwhelmed with school work and decided to put off writing the next chapter until I felt like I had things better under control. Weeks turned into months, and because I hadn’t played Mystic Messenger in a while I started to doubt my ability to even finish the story I’d intended to tell. It became easier to just leave it “until I felt like coming back”.

But don’t worry too much about me - I’m doing pretty great nowadays, and I’ve even done a bunch of writing again in the last couple years (just not for MysMe, sadly).

Are you still in the MysMe fandom?

Yes, I am! I don’t post on here so much, but if you’ve been following my Mysterious Messenger posts at all (see the pinned post on this blog) you’ll know that I’ve been working on a Mystic Messenger-style engine since 2018. I tended to work on it in bursts throughout 2018 and early 2019 but for most of 2020 and all of 2021 I’ve been making daily updates to it adding new features, fixing bugs, and maintaining the code. It’s even got a novel-length wiki to go with it lol. I’m also collaborating with a group of people working on a free fangame that will use the engine.

Are you going to come back to Everlasting Party?

All right so this is actually a couple of questions in one. First, do I want to come back to EP? The answer is yes. It haunts me that I’ve left it unfinished and I sometimes get messages or comments about it and I want very dearly to have it finished so I don’t have this loose thread dangling about ^^;;

Will I come back to finish EP? I don’t have a concrete answer for this one because I hate making promises I can’t keep, but I’ll give you some information on my process for this:

I keep telling myself if I remake all the chatrooms for EP with my program (mentioned above), I have to finish writing EP.

I feel like I need to replay the games to re-familiarize myself with canon to properly write the characters again, but don’t really have the same drive to go through all the chats

It’s been a while and my writing style has actually evolved quite a bit (but for the better, I hope!). If I finish EP, there are earlier chapters I’d like to expand upon and potentially modify to flow better. I do worry though that earlier readers might not like the way I change it, but also, I have no idea how many of those people would come back to read the ending, really, anyway.

The good news, though:

I actually wrote 25k on EP during Camp NaNo in July 2020

This is EP’s current word count in my drafts (unedited):

EP is also no longer constrained by my ability (and patience) to make chatrooms at all anymore since I can generate them in mere minutes with my program rather than painstakingly editing them frame-by-frame in Photoshop

I would really like the satisfaction of finishing this story :P

So in summary anon: I am cautiously optimistic about the fate of Everlasting Party. And I actually adore messages like this that let me know people have enjoyed it and would be willing to come back if it was completed! ♥ The odds of me finishing it do, in fact, increase with each person who tells me this, ‘cause part of my worry is that it would be pointless anyway since it’s been several years and what if it doesn’t live up to what people imagined it would be...

Basically, even though I’ve written several additional unposted chapters of EP, I really want to have the whole story complete before uploading again so I don’t get anyone’s hopes up. That said, it’s also pointless to sit on another 25k+ of words if I don’t finish it, so... well, how’s this: if I don’t finish EP by 2022, then I’ll upload what I have written and write a note on my plans so people like you can have some closure.

hey anon! sorry for getting back a little late working sucks anyways i am 100% the worst at explaining things but there are like two tutorials that i use when it comes to the basics + blending so i'll link them for you!

i personally use paint tool sai to color but i know a lot of people use photoshop so if you don't have sai but have ps you should still be able to do the same things! these tutorials do a really good job of explaining but if you have any more questions for clarification you can always ask me!

Hey, newbie to the Sims 2 here. I’ve been following your works for so long and I’ve always wanted to try the whole screenshot/storytelling thing with my sims but I don’t really know where to start, it’s all pretty over whelming

hi anon! i feel u but dont be overwhelmed, u seriously just need 4 things to start taking pics/shooting for a story:a) a good screenshot program (fraps or greenshot are the top choices)b) photoshop and some ts2 editing actions (good starter are the ones by eversims until u figure ur ~personal style~) or gimp c) poseboxes and omsps (also mentioned in my tutorial which i link later)d) a willingness to accept that ur first couple pics are probably gonna suck and improvement will take timethat’s legit it, get urself items a-c and internalize the fact ur first attempts are gonna be bad and not up to par with what u see and like on simblr. dont let it discourage u, i guarantee u will eventually get there and it will happen faster than u think

since uve been following me for a while heres an example from my own pics. this is the first sim pic i posted on tumblr on august 2016. take a good look at it and note how bad it is in every aspect. all of my pics from that time are like that, they’re bland, lighting is weird, the posing is lol, the zoom is off, the editing is literally why etc etc. the pics in the first couple chpts of nll produce enough cringe in me to power a small country. by october i could do this, which at the time was my favorite pic id ever taken. by january i could do this which was a logistical nightmare, by may this, and by july i could write a tutorial

im not saying this to pat my own back like ‘oh look how far i came blabla’, my point is i clearly had no natural talent for this stuff so if i can do it anyone can. i came into this exactly like u, knowing literal shit about ts2 pics, and there were times were i was like ‘ffs is this shit ever gonna look the way i want it to?!’ and short answer is yes it will if u keep practicing!

i used to hate hate HATE posing. i cant stress it enough, i prob have a few text posts from bitd where i rant about it, like it literally gave me migraines. now posing is my fav thing in the game bc the better u get at smth the more u enjoy it. get the required programs, start shooting, dont be neurotic about it looking like crap bc it will for a while, dont be content with mediocre pics, and if u end up posting dont get all emo about comparing urself to other ppl and not getting a lot of notes at first bc these things take time. watch urself drastically improve and always keep in mind it’s just a hobby and it’s supposed to be fun. if u find urself not enjoying it and feeling the annoyance of screenshots is not worth the fun u get out of them then tell screenshots to fuck off. hope ive helped a little, hmu if u need anything else! 🐹

i also have a list of shit my history teacher (this year) has said and done so I will share it with you:

another military story of the goat he bought from an old man with his buddies. unfortunately they had to kill the goat to eat, but the FACT that my teacher said this “a cute little goat--you know, baaa?” as if we didn’t know what a goat was

He was the golf/hockey coach!! so not only would he talk about beating up the kids in the golf club

he would also do random golf swings all the goddamn time! with no gold club or ball, it was just air.

THE TURTLE SOUP STORY. when my teacher was still a kid, he found a turtle in the wild, and brought it to his grandparents house (they owned a farm). he took care of the turtle for a while, even after his grandfather found out. until one day he came home and saw blood everywhere, went to find the turtle to see it was gone. then found his grandfather chopping up the fucking turtle so they could have it for soup for dinner. his grandfather literally made him fatten up the turtle so they could eat it

basically everyone in the class had to answer a question as a review. there was a stool in front of the smartboard, perfectly placed so that the projector light would LITERALLy be in your eyes. i actually got the question right on some miracle.

How do you make your editing so pretty???

Hey there!! First off, kjfdgbjfdbgjhdfjh thank you so much. I know this is crazy late, I’ve been working hh. I’ve put a general tutorial(??) under the cut so it’s not too long on dash!! ♥

First off, what I currently use:

Photoshop CC

@intramoon ‘s Patchouli Rose (primarily)

@magicbats ‘s Happy Pills PSD set (turned to 20% on both folders)

CANVAS SIZE: 1920 x 1080 (but screen size might vary?)

THE STEPS (”right-click > open image in new tab” if its too small!)

^ 1) slap your image on your canvas with all the bs listed above (or whatever you use as your editing psd!)

^ 2) since my current scene outside in the realm was kinda bright (for early early morning/late night of 3am in-game if i remember correctly lmfao), i had to tone down the brightness as well crank up the contrast for some Nice Touch of depth or whatever idk words. it makes a difference fam.

^ 3) this is what the brightness/contrast editing did btw. now, i stayed on the picture layer and used the flood select tool and grabbed morgyn; while keeping them selected, i made a new layer with that button on the side mhm. it’s time for some light editing hahah

^ 4) disregard the pun, im dumb lol. anyways, i took some peachy-orange and drew on some points where the light (from the opposite doorway in which they had exited in post 3) hits them. it’s not accurate but it is what it is. I set this layer to “overlay” and the opacity to roughly 50-40%. Make a new layer!

^ 5) new layer: do the same exact thing but with finer brush lines but in white (or off-white). This is more of the highlights on the sim (or subject, whatever you’re editing). Set this layer to EITHER “overlay” or “soft light”, then play around the opacity until it looks natural. you CAN take a soft-edged eraser (set opacity to about 20%) and kinda soften up the brushing so its not too sharp and harsh. CTRL+D to deselect the subject.

^ 6) this is the outcome :3 see the shadowing and lighting? it looks like the warm lights from the hall to Morgyn’s left is hitting them ~ Now, that things look okay, click off the brightness/contrast layer (you’ll wanna save this) and everything else EXCEPT for your picture layer and the layers you just did (lighting and such). Now you want to right-click on a visible layer and click “Merge Visible;” this merges the visible layers into one (I do this so that things dont get messy and disorganized in my layers bc i mass-open 4385873246 pictures and my post-edit psd has so many layers as it is lol) (but this is also a key thing to do for later steps~)

^ 7) Now with your merged layer of the edited pic, you want to duplicate the image layer so that you have 2. On the top layer, flood-select your main focus—this can be a sim, or a few, and the front-and-center focus area of the image. Once the stuff is selected (make sure you zoom in and get all the little details ie hair, etc), you want to hit your “delete” button on the keyboard (or use the cut tool, whichever is easiest) and watch the stuff poof, as shown above.

^ 8) grab your blur tool and set it to this setting. Then what i do is i just click on the (still top layer, the one with the erased focus!) layer and go HAM with the mouse. PS does this thing where the more i waggle the mouse the more it blurs. i just blur the background for 10 seconds and release. tada all blurred tf out. then, i go to the bottom (untouched!) layer and use a smaller size of the blur tool and lightly edge around the subject, just to casually blend the subject and background so that things look smooth. when done, merge visible again!!

^ 9) I then go into Topaz Clean 3 and smooth out the image!! here are my settings ^-^

^ 10) now my morgyn is a sunkissed-freckled bby. but topaz washes them out almost all the way :c so i take my splatter brush and zOOm in on their cute face and use an eyedropper to grab the color of one of their kinda visible fweckles. then i just splash that brush aLL over their face/skin in general. then i set that layer to multiply, then opacity like 20%?? Then i take a soft edged eraser, opacity to 20%, and kinda spam click all over to not make the “freckles” so consistent but also to blend them in a bit.

^ 11) this just shows the settings and outcome of the sunshine bby ♥

^ 12) these are just what i have set on the Happy Pills PSD Set! I have both folders set to 20% because at 100% + my reshade, shit’s bright as fuck [swEAts] lol. so I turned them down a bit and adjusted as so ~

^ 13) and finally, with all visible layers merged into one, the brightness/contrast layer turned back on, the Happy Pills PSD folders turned on, and my cinematic black bars on, we get the final image :3 here’s the pic after i finished some additional editing for my story post part 4
