He does not get along with Haru and Yuki at first because he doesn't think they are taking fishing seriously, but after seeing Yuki's drive to improve and growing appreciation for his interest, he warms up to them and develops, what seems to be, the first close friendships he 's had. As the boys learn to fish, he is the source of most of the very specific fishing knowledge in the series, and after the show is finished we see that he has moved overseas to continue pursuing his special interest."

It is heavily implied that the things she wants removed is autism and Hikaru is more upset about this than most other things in the series but seems to understand that acceptance for people like him and the kid is few and far between. He also says things that could be considered rude when it comes to situations where people ask him to alter who they are as people, such as when a friend asks him to change her sexuality so that she's straight and doesn't have to suffer heartbreak anymore."

1. Your top 5 however many reads of 2023

This is really difficult to answer so I'll cheat just like you and ramble on a bit hehe

Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku by Hiro is the one I started the year with, finally, after watching the anime the year before. I love how it depicts the joy and beauty in everyday life, the art is stunning, the girls are super cute, and I'm here for the lesbian undertones that's become its own serious storyline by now!!!

I have a very soft spot for River's Edge by Kyoko Okazaki. This year I delved into josei manga for a good bit, and River's Edge is the first one I read (this year, purposefully). I love the sketchy art, the imperfect people, and the realness of the story. I don't know if I'll like it as much on a second read, but I was very impressed and inspired by my first time reading it. Other impactful josei works I read this year were Shibou to Iu Na no Fuku wo Kite and Bikachou Shinshi Kaikoroku by Moyoco Anno. I love reading about women and women's struggles :') Her art is gorgeous too! Oh and speaking of gorgeous art, a third josei highlight from this year was Kaoru Fujiwara. I did not consume her works, I let Sono Saki no Fuukei consume me. I love how it forces the reader to think and how it doesn't really open up until a second or third read-through. It was very dreamlike, and tragic with some uncomfortable themes, just the way I like it heh.

Out of all the yuri I read, Yume no Hashibashi by Yumi Sudou is the one that still lingers in my mind. I loved the construction of the story with each chapter going backwards in time, to finally reveal the tragic past of the sorrowful lives we've been following all along. The story is extra hurtful, because there are countless of stories like theirs in real life, of women who can't be with the women they love because of social, cultural and legislative reasons. I cried by the time I finished reading it!

Another manga that left a big impression on me was Hiraeth wa Tabiji no Hate by Yuhki Kamatani. The art and imagery were amazing, and I'm weak to stories about death and grief. The conclusion made me cry - to have such small and seemingly simple things in life be the reason you decide to keep on living!

Lastly, this has also been the year where I began reading Shuuzou Oshimi's manga. The first one I picked up was Okaeri Alice, and the latest I read was Chi no Wadachi, and they're both my favourites from his works. I love how deep they delve into the characters mindsets, I love the themes, and of course the art is pleasing to look at. I especially love how much of the stories are conveyed through images alone. They hit deeper when you have to read an expression rather than words.

6. Your favorite one-shot

I only read a couple of one-shots this year (that I've tracked anyway) so it's easy to give this one to Koufuku no Hato by Keiko Takemiya, a short sequel to Kaze to Ki no Uta (as if that series hasn't given me brain damage and it couldn't be my favorite otherwise).

7. The manga you reread the most

Probably Sono Saki no Fuukei, I read it, then I instantly read it again, and then I read it a third time the next day, just to experience the story again while trying to make more sense of it. I really, really loved that one!

Otherwise I haven't been rereading anything that much. Maybe Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu by Mokumokuren, since I read each chapter in Japanese, then a quick English translation and then a proper English translation later on. ...Now that I think about it, I have actually reread everything that's been published so far a few times last year, and I would've loved to reread it even more, but for some reason it takes suuuuuper long for the chapters/pages to load and I can't bother waiting half the time? It's a crime, honestly.

I've also reread the last few chapters of Double by Ayako Noda a few times, whenever I check if there are any new ones out. Same for Happy Shitty Life by Harada, although it's been so long I've gotten tired of them by now haha. Besides that, I have been rereading Harada a good amount, but it's usually bits and pieces here and there, not full works so it's difficult to estimate how much I've reread them.

12. A manga that made you look forward to every update

Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu is legitimately what keeps me going from one week to the next ;___; I love that manga so much!!!!

I also always make sure to savour each new chapter of Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku. I haven't figured out if that series has a release schedule, and if it does the releases are far and few, so it's always a treat to get one. And now with the aforementioned lesbian storyline I'm even more eager to see what the next chapter will bring!!!

First Impression: The Gene of AI

At first it was fire. Then it was steel. Then it was the steam engine. Soon enough we had nuclear power and artificial intelligence. And now, in a not-so-distant future, we have Humanoids: AI robots that function almost identically to humans. Almost 1% of the population is Humanoid, and with that many walking around, you’d be surprised if there weren’t a few bugs. Thankfully, Humanoids have doctors just like humans do, and Sudou Hikaru is one of them. By day, he does your routine outpatient check-ups. But by night, under the moniker Moggadeet (which sounds like a meme, but I assure you it’s not), he treats Humanoids whose ailments are a little less above board. You see, artificially creating personalities raises some questions. Like “What happens when computer viruses infect a Humanoid? How do you cure a digital illness?” Or “What happens when someone duplicates an AI personality? Or makes a backup to prolong their lifespan? Or to produce mass soldiers for a war effort?” How do we cherish human life when technology threatens to transform it into a commodity?

I'm Getting Conquered by a Beautiful Male Cosplayer (Manga)

Plot Synopsis: Sudou, a university student who loves games, has a difficult job-hunting experience. Thanks to a former student who he's friends with, he gets to meet Nagi, a crossdresser he admires. Sudou drinks a bit too much when Nagi shows up looking like his favorite character and listens kindly to his complaints… so he ends up bringing him home and stealing a kiss. Nagi resists at first, but gradually becomes more and more assertive!? The sound of the godly cosplayer's moans keeps fueling Sudou's wild excitement…!

The story is good. At first, I thought the cosplayer, Nagi is the top based on the cover and title. Though, I'm not disappointed because it is cute and hot nonetheless. Also, I like the angst part in Chapter 6. The build-up with the foreshadowing and misunderstanding made my heart clenched. I felt the pain and sadness on both sides. That's why it is one of my favorite chapters. I look forward to the updates. I think there is still a side story since it's still ongoing.

Aside from the main couple, Kishida is also a great character. He's a loyal, supportive, and caring friend. He even helped Nagi to get close to Sudou, and Sudou to get to meet up with his idol cosplayer, Nagi. Also, he is very supportive of Nagi being a cosplayer. He is a great friend.

The manga keeps reiterating that Shinobu is lonely -- but she does have people who care about her! Chihaya, Arata, Suou, her mother, Ise-san (in his own way -- I personally think he regrets isolating her). I want them to roll her up in a blanket and hug her (metaphorically, but literally is okay too).

I would also be interested for her to meet Kana. I think they might have things to talk about.

Again, I know Sudou's not in the tagset, but I'd love to see a day in his life. Other characters can come too.

I think Sudou interacting with Kana would be particularly fun; she’s unwilling to take bullshit, but can be flustered. Which buttons will Sadistic Sudou hit? (As a sidenote to this prompt and the previous one, I am pretty neutral towards Kana/Tsutomu and would be fine with Kana paired with other characters.)

We know playing Wataya Hajime affected Harada-sensei for the rest of his life, but what about Wataya-sensei? Harada has inspired a lot of people; did he leave a lasting impression on the Eternal Meijin? I don't necessarily mean this as a shippy prompt, although if that's how you're inspired, go for it.

Arata/Taichi, maybe with underlying OT3. I would be happy with any story featuring this pair, but I think a lot about the implicit pressure Taichi’s under to just not be gay, to marry a woman and be a respectable doctor and have perfect offspring, just -- ugh. I want Taichi to be able to go buckwild. Preferably for Arata.

Crack: The T-shirts in this canon are top-notch. Where does the cast get their shirts from? Is there a specific shop that sells clothing with pithy and absurd English on them? What is their process for deciding what gets printed on what? IS NIKUMAN’S SISTER INVOLVED???

More crack: I would love to know more about the Snowmaru and Daddy Bear franchises.

Qihun (Hikaru no Go)

There must be so much mischief you can get up to with an invisible friend, besides learning Go and cheating on tests. You can impress and confound your friends with your "mind reading" skills and apparent eyes in the back of your head. You could "pay attention" to two movies at once. You'd be invincible at hide-and-seek (at least once, before your invisble friend refuses to help you cheat again). Maybe Mom praises you for noticing things that you didn't notice before, thanks to Friend pointing them out. I'm curious about ways Shi Guang and Chu Ying could have leveraged their situation to do some interesting things. Bonus: Yu Liang watching from the sidelines, growing increasingly bamboozled.

It frustrates me SO MUCH that Chu Ying just disappeared. Was he able to go back home and live out his life? Did he become starstuff? What happennnnnnnned.

If you’re wondering what this somewhat obscure series is, it’s two short novels; The first, Enchantress from the Stars, is a YA book that asks the question, “what if we had knights and dragons and sorceresses, but the magic is just technology, and the sorceress is from a far-advanced civilization?” -- and tells it from the advanced civilization’s point of view. It’s great fun. 

The second book, The Far Side of Evil, features the same main character all grown up, and is considerably more adult, and grapples with themes of morality and human nature. Fandom-specific likes: I really like explorations of character and identity in this fandom. I adore the Jiangzuo crew and their interactions with MCS. I am ALSO weak for the tension between Jingyan and Mei Changsu (his best friend! In more ways than one!). Prefer gen, but really could roll with any ship.

The invasions of Ep 54 don’t happen, but MCS is still dying. Without the springboard of the invasions to let him reassume Lin Shu’s identity, how does he cope? Does he reconcile with Jingyan instead of keeping himself apart? Does he tell Nihuang the truth? Does he just run away to the jianghu after all? Does he stay in the capital and angst? How does he deal with the question of Fei Liu? Does he con the Bingxu pill out of Lin Chen in the end? You can surprise-save him at the end if you like, but I would like to see him resolve his self-deceptions and hurt he’s caused other people without the crutch of knowing he’s going to live after all. It’s been six years since Lin Chen and his father rescued that foolish ingrate Mei Changsu, who also happens to be Lin Chen’s best friend. And the way Changsu is going, he won’t see another six years. Lin Chen devises a plan to stop Changsu from working away his depleted health: “That person you keep talking about? The emperor’s seventh son? Write to him.” Can be canon-compliant or canon-divergent. Also prompted in the Nirvana in Fire Exchange 2019.

I know he's not part of the tagset, but I find Gao Zhan fascinating. What was the Chiyan massacre through his eyes? How did he feel about MCS's plotting? How much did he know at various points? What tipped him off that there was scheming going on in Prince Jing's name?

Lin Shu, oh Lin Shu. The shadow he casts is so interesting. Anything about who Lin Shu was before Meiling. What aspects of Mei Changsu’s current brattiness/trollishness were present in his past life, what aspects of it came from... later influences (*cough* Lin Chen *cough*)? How much are Jingyan and Nihuang editorializing when they characterize Lin Shu as the best and brightest and most loyal and...?

I’d also like to see the problematic sides of Lin Shu (and by extension, possibly Lin Xie and Prince Qi too). I think the present hero-worship is very much a product of don’t-speak-ill-of-the-dead, but they must have had faults. The Hua genocide was too easily swept under the rug, for instance.

I would love character introspection/missing moments/more backstory for one of the more minor characters: Yan Que, Gong Yu, Banruo, Mu Qing, Liyang.

Hi, I just wanted to quickly clear up that Tomonori Sudou, HF director did not direct Tsuki:Re OP but Masashi Takeuchi (directed Illya Emiya Gohan ep) as per TM Ace. But character designs is most definitely Sudou who did latter KnK, Fate Zero, FSN PS Vita, and HF. Still, love the ufotable peeps. (I'd like to link to credible twitter source but I cant put link)

Takeuchi: Ufotable has been putting so much care into animating Type-Moon's works for so long, we thought they were the only ones who could make Tsukihime's opening. The moment we asked their CEO, Mr. (Hikaru) Kondou, he was overjoyed to accept. Mr. Tomonori Sudou, director of the Fate/stay Night Heaven's Feel movies, personally requested to direct the animation and character designs. After the third movie was complete, he immediately started working on the opening.
