Devildom Public Holidays

Summary: headcanons of a list of public holidays celebrated in the Devildom.

C/W. Suggestive in Asmo’s birthday part.

First, Devildom didn’t use the word “holiday” for their public celebrations and days off until very recently. The reason was because “holiday” came from the word “Holy Day”, which means Christian religious celebration days such as Christmas, Easter, Whitsun, etc.

However, the exchange program changed that. The Devildom now uses the term “holiday” but with much secularized meaning only. The same is applied to any holiday they adopted from the Human World.

Fixed holidays

January

January 1 - New Year Day

Two-day celebration: New Year Eve & New Year Day

The Devildom adopted this holiday from the Human World one year after the first year of the exchange program ended, per the request and desire of MC.

Celebrations are not different from the Human World. There are fireworks, parades, singing & greeting each other “Happy New Year”, etc.

February

Sadly, no day off, except weekend 😔

March

March 11 - Birthday of Lord Beelzebub, Avatar of Gluttony and Lord Belphegor, Avatar of Sloth

Three-day celebration: March 10 - March 12

Demons of Gluttony are allowed to eat more food while demons of Sloth don’t do any manual work during the celebration.

Demons usually hang the sign of Gemini ♊️ on the door(s) of their houses during the celebration.

Twin demons born during the past year are given a special demonic blessing by ministers of Three-Legged Crow god.

April

April 9 - Birthday of Lord Leviathan, Avatar of Envy

Three-day celebration: April 8 - April 10

Demons of Envy and otakus participate in demonic services in honor of Ruri-chan and other anime/manga girls.

A three-day game tournament is held in honor of Levi.

Navy parades on Devildom rivers and seas. Salutes by cannon are also performed on large ships during these occasions.

For the Navy, the celebration lasts until April 11, one more day than normal demons.

May

May 15 - Birthday of Lord Asmodeus, Avatar of Lust

Three-day celebration: May 14 - May 16

This day is dubbed by many demons of Lust as “Fuck Day” and they don’t just say, they do the deed. However, traditionally, this day is associated with freedom to express oneself and the positivity of carnal desires.

Beauty brands usually gives out discount and sale off during the celebration.

June

June 6- Devil’s Day and Birthday of Lord Lucifer, Avatar of Pride

Seven-day celebration: June 1 - June 7

Devil’s Day is considered one of the most important celebration in Devildom. It’s like a new year to its citizen.

Carnivals, fireworks, parades, cannon salutes are held many times during the celebration.

Devildom’s Classical Music Association holds a yearly musical performance and opera in honor of Lucifer on June 5, the day before his birthday.

Devildom’s Painter Association even has its members to paint a peacock and put the works in a contest to see who can paint the most beautiful peacock of the year.

Walking on the streets of Devildom, you may occasionally see demon children dressing up as chess pieces. Weird, huh.

July

August

August 22 - Butler’s Day. Birthday of Lord Barbatos, the Royal Steward

Three-day celebration: August 21 - August 23

It’s decreed that demon nobles and others with servants allow those who serve them to take three celebration days off. The reason is because butlers, maids and others have served their masters throughout the year, without taking a day off as servants still serve their masters on other holidays.

September

September 10 - Birthday of Lord Mammon, Avatar of Greed

Three-day celebration: September 9 - 11

On this day, demons of Greed usually choose to show their generosity by buying Grimm chocolate and candy and give them to demon children.

Money lenders reduce the money their debtors have to pay a little bit today.

Many demons of Greed have the habit of keeping the first Grimm coin they made as a keepsake to remember the first time they got their hands on hard-earned money. Many of them also have the “devotion” to kiss the gold coin once a year on Mammon’s birthday, believing the act would bring them more money in the future.

In honor of Mammon, demons also don’t shoo crows away and even feeding them.

October

October 20 - Birthday of Lord Satan, Avatar of Wrath

Three-day celebration: October 19 - 21

Book discounts and sale off are frequent during the celebration.

Devildom citizens feed and play with cat, believing they will help them avoid many annoying hassles.

Demons of Wrath even let cats put their paws on their heads, believing in its soothing effect. I mean, it works on their Avatar, right?

October 31 - Birthday of Lord Diavolo, Crown Prince and future King of all Demons

Four-day celebration: October 30 - November 2

Many public celebrations with parades, fireworks, gun & cannon salutes, etc.

Demon nobles and high officials hold small balls or parties at their residences to honor Diavolo. The reason why the balls or parties are small is because most demons can’t attend too many of them during the celebration period and they must be inferior compared to the main large ball held at the Demon Lord’s Castle on Diavolo’s birthday.

November

November 1 & 2 as a part of Diavolo’s birthday celebration period as said above.

December

December 9 - Cursed Day

One day celebration

The day Solomon was born. Most demons believe Solomon to be a wicked human and the ultimate villain and/or an agent of Celestial Realm. So they take this day off to curse and insult him. Diavolo never approves this day to begin with but monarchs have to let their people have their way.

Many revenues build Solomon’s statues for this day just so demon citizens can slap, hit, punch, kick, put a curse on or spat on them. The statues are fixed by the local government in early December every year to prepare for this day again.

Diavolo had prohibited this celebration before the exchange program started because it would be offensive to Solomon in particular and repulsive to other exchange students in general. But the decree only works in the capital and surrounding areas. Many demons persist in having their way in many places.

December 25 - Christmas Day

Nine-day celebration: December 24 - January 1

The day Christ was born. But Devildom adopted the holiday without its special religious meaning.

Christmas trees, presents, Santa Claus, etc.

The reason the celebration is so long is because it coincides with end-of-the-year break.

Movable holidays

Your birthday 🎉

Your own birthday

The Seven Lords and the Royals take the day off to celebrate with you. And since all the government officials don’t work on this day, I guess it’s as good as a day off. Yay.

Other days I guess are probably off in Devildom but I currently have no headcanon or info.

since we're on the subject what are your honest thoughts on eva. me personally i think its really great in a lot of ways but also completely full of shit and really falls apart when analyzed non-emotionally (in more ways than just it's *extremely* loose Christian theming)

I think it's fantastic, at least the original series and EoE. Many of the criticisms commonly levied against it are justified- this is a series that castigates its otaku audience for leering at its grossly sexualized portrayal of adolescents while at the same time constructing one of the most vociferous merchandising apparati ever conceived around exactly that purpose- but it's greater than the sum of its defects.

In the matter of broad aesthetics, direction, and composition, I would place Evangelion near the apex of the medium. The industry mechanism necessary to create something that looks like this simply no longer exists. The philistine reaction against the long takes, which would elsewhere be recognized as part of the basic grammar of any serious film, is a credit to Anno's sensibilities as director. There aren't any characters that I particularly dislike, and I think Shinji and Asuka are near to brilliant. And the first thirteen episodes are simply exceptional, even fairly undemanding genre fare. The fucking Israfel one is just an outstanding episode of television. The dramatic idiosyncracies that the series is known for don't manifest in greater quantity until the latter part, which is I imagine where less receptive audiences will start to check out, but I think they're both necessary complements to the whole.

I think about Eva-02 catching that missile to the face on a semi-regular basis. The entire MPE scene is one of the most compelling pieces of animation ever put to film. This and the Gouf battle from 08th MS Team around the same time are the acme of the thought that emphasized plausible heft and momentum in mechanical animation.

The extent to which the original series is celebrated as 'deconstructive', or as a radical departure from previous, less 'cerebral' works, is grossly exaggerated and I think dependent on a historical ignorance of the genre. That isn't to say that it's complete equivocation, but Amuro's first character arc in 0079 is going catatonic after being compelled to fight in the ambulatory war crimes machine, and Pen Pen is not some sort of embedded reflexive criticism- he is a fun penguin who basically loves to hang out. Much of the thematic material is indebted to Ideon-era Tomino, who was at least as catastrophically depressive as Anno during the period of his most prolific cultural output.

The greater innovation in Eva is its radical orientation towards psychodrama, which I think does finally reach a deconstructive apogee in EoE. Still, the basic theme of the series, the communicative impediments to human intimacy, is also the overriding concern of the first several incarnations of Gundam- but only Evangelion will have a character literally describe the hedgehog's dilemma aloud. So a lot of the perceived deconstruction is a maximal treatment of what was marginally less explicit in earlier works, and I think Anno's direction does produce striking and beautifully affective turns on that material. But the old joke that this mecha anime is about the characters is still descriptive of the entire genre. This isn't meant to be a criticism- I think it's infinitely more engaging to consider Eva as the ultimate Lost Decade continuation of earlier forms than some sort of iconoclastic rupture from tradition.

The Judeo-Christian imagery is another point of radical continuity with hyper-influential genre fare, in this case Ultraman. Anno's recent directorial output is enough to evince the tremendous debt owed to the series, but whereas the religious iconography was a genuine article of faith for Tsuburaya, in Eva the material is valued more for its aestheticizing effect. It was only when transplanted to a Western audience that the desacralized treatment of religion assumed a transgressive quality that happened to be a perfect 'in' for adolescents nationwide. Shinji is a Midwest emo icon and I can make an AMV of the series set to Chop Suey by System of a Down? This phenomenon is, to me, more interesting than the actual thematic connections the series draws from myth, which is certainly not what the thing is 'about' in any case.

Also, I am an episode 25-26 truther. EoE is great but the television finale is its obvious complement. If you're out here telling people to watch EoE immediately after episode 24... grow the fuck up! bitch!!!*

Oyasumi Punpun: a Rant

Oyasumi Punpun is like the Elliot Rodger manifesto for weeaboos. Boy that thinks he's the only person that's had anything bad happen to him gets raped and beaten, goes around raping and beating and murdering women. And it's all justified because of the horrible life he led. If you read any of Inio Asano's other mangas you can tell this is not a flaw or an oversight in Punpun's writing- Asano is a bitter misogynist and it shows in everything he writes. Bullies, abusive mothers, are all bitchy, unlovable hags. The only good women in the world of his manga are underage prepubescent girls.

Throughout Downfall, Goodnight Punpun, Dead Dead Demon's DEDEDEDEstruction (yes i read all of those. i wanted to give him a chance so bad.) women are always positioned as mindless foils to the protagonist. women that crave sex are disgusting whores. prostitutes are ugly, but the protagonist still sleeps with them. Fat women are disgusting. Mean women are ugly caricatured beasts, and kind women are perfectly molded, underage girls. Characters that proudly self-identify as pedophiles (Punpun's uncle, the otaku in DEDEDEDEstruction) are positioned as the rationalists, the Reddit Atheists, the ones too smart for the idiocy of the normies. The breath of "reason" in an insane world. The most obvious example of this isn't even in Oyasumi Punpun with the pedo uncle;

it's in DOWNFALL, which is about an 'intellectual' manga artist that hates the braindead 'normies' that like his manga. he only makes it for bottom feeders like them. he's above those human scum. The self insert protagonist rapes a woman too because she pissed him off. That's life! C'est la Vie! Men just do that kind of thing sometimes!

I am fucking sick of indie scenes treating punpun like the most deep, meaningful manga ever and jacking off about how smart they are for "understanding" it. what is there to understand? asano themself said punpun isn't supposed to have a coherent plot or meaning, that it's just supposed to be nonsense because real life murders are nonsense. it's just an excuse to write a sloppy, disheveled story, with little care put into the world that the protagonist inhabits.

this isnt very organized. im just full of hate for inio asano, and i cannot believe this bilge is touted as some of the most 'intellectual' manga of our time.

Noone would argue christianity itself caused the murders.) , I think it's interesting to note Punpun's influence on the killer. ***I AM NOT SAYING PUNPUN WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MURDER. the person involved in the killing was already suicidal and mentally ill, thus they probably gravitated towards manga with those themes.

but if the manga influenced his actions that much, I think it's interesting to look into the ideology of the manga itself and what ideals it promotes. ***I AM NOT FUCKING SAYING PUNPUN CAUSED THE MURDER BEFORE I GET ANY COMMENTS ALONG THOSE LINES

Church grim is a guardian spirit in English and Scandinavian folklore that oversees the welfare of a particular Christian church, and protects the churchyard from those who would profane and commit sacrilege against it. It often appears as a black dog but So, taking inspiration from Ruth (from Mahoutsukai no Yome) and would make Lysander capable of taking the form of a dog. Since is a Faelienne, Lysander and Leigh were born in the human world, and when they reached the age, Lysander decided to "go back" to Eldarya, while Leigh chose to stay in the human world.

First, I need confirmation, but all the feng people are phoenix? I understood that only the one that has the title would be the phoenix; but then, the rest of the people are like humans? Anyways, I imagine these two not being phoenixes, but able to partially take the forms of birds (like harpies).

Incubus are demons in male form that seeks to have sexual intercourse with sleeping women; I imagine Jade as an incubus who doesn't really like to have sex but actually seeks an emotional bond with someone. Race: Benandati Werewolf

The Benandati were members of an agrarian Christian cult that fought against witches and any satanic forces between s.XVI and s.XVII, but the legends says that they were actually benevolent werewolves, and were associated as "Lord's Hounds", characterized by their honor, chivalrous and modesty. Imagine Castiel having Lysander as hunting pet/companion lmao

Mythological bird from Pondo, Zulu, and Xhosa folklore that can summon lightning and storms and can masquerade as a human, but usually it's a huge black and white bird of prey, and it’s widely feared as a witch's familiar. It will sound really otaku but hear me out: What if his fighting style when he’s in his human form, is just like Minato’s :D

I was planning on following up on my post from last night, examining how Edelgard's end card combines the Devil tarot, Baphomet and Napoleon to fully display what her character is after: namely rather than people coming to her of their own free will and becoming more like her as the devil tarot depicts, instead it's pointing to her using violence to force people to be like her. The fact there's an angel while Edelgard is holding a reversed version of the Hand of Justice, a symbol of God's blessing instwad imitating Baphomet while the angel has a different coloration than the one in Silver Snow's ending, makes it out that while Edelgard might be demonically themed she's making herself out to be divine. The fact Napoleon's pose was based on a lost statue of Zeus only furthers the idea of her having a god complex. It all screams the route was a path of conquest, from her stomping on the flags to the twin-headed eagle in the background.

And I don't think that Eagle is meant to be a jianjian. A jian is a bird where the males have one wing and eye on one side, the females on the other. It's supposed to be them being a pair, incomplete without their true love and with them able to fly. The problem is that we see that the Eagles have their wing on one side and a visible eye on the other. That's not a jianjian, that's just an ancient symbol for Empire. If that were a jianjian, it would only be able to see what was right in front of it, missing everything that goes on around it…which would be fitting for Flower, I admit. But it doesn't work as a symbol of love, which fits considering the route's intended name, Safflower, merely means attraction which was built upon in Hopes with Edelgard being instinctively drawn to Byleth being chalked up to their Crests (plus it also says you're trying to ensnare either a partner or good luck, calling to mind the devs wanting to "trick" players somehow and how they made Flower easier to access when test players couldn't). Plus the Devil Tarot would suggest going down the path would be Byleth giving into not just their attachment to Edelgard, but linking it with lust as well (as commentary on horny otaku perhaps?).

The combination of demonic imagery and an empire does suggest she's an AntiChrist figure, especially considering she's bearing a weapon marked with a Crest known as "The Beast" and persecutes the faithful of Fodlan. This lines up with Nemesis, having been said to persecute the people which pushed them to follow his example by killing and stealing in order to acquire power for themselves. The fact the antichrist was originally an emperor who persecuted early Christians, believed to be Nero, and the title was been used to describe Napoleon at the time works as well. The fact that the word nemesis can mean adversary, and Satan means The Adversary, could be at play here to. Not to mention the Agarthans and their war against the Goddess. It gives the impression that Edelgard is returning to the ways of Nemesis, who she believes is a champion of humanity but was also used by the Agarthans (with the evidence pointing to them presenting themselves as gods or at least holy). Combine this with the different colored angel in the picture, it could symbolize the Agarthans making Edelgard into the ruler of Fodlan in contrast to the more blueish angel championing Byleth.

So…yeah. Lot's of symbolism going on in that picture and all of it ties together to paint a darker image. I was planning on going over this in more depth, but it's been a hell of a day and I'm tired. I was also planning on talking about Martian Successor Nadesico and how it uses death of the author, but I'll leave that for tomorrow.

Conversely, I noticed on the Silver Snow ending the wheels of the cart Byleth is on have eight spokes, a symbol of the noble eightfold path that leads to enlightenment (which Byleth maintains in Snow).

komm susser todd is the breakup song! and the waifu wars are why the show took off in japan compared to other mecha of the time (and therefore ended up popular enough to get over here, too)- rei, asuka, and to a lesser extent misato being shipped with the main protagonist (who was written intentionally to be otaku-like for easy self-inserting) or just direct waifuing with the fan themselves. the almost thirty years of Best Girl fights are the direct result of how NGE was marketed and received, not a side effect of the existence of a show with novel writing choices that happened to have cute girls.

evangelion, otherwise, is an exceedingly flashy barely-a-mecha that does nothing but retread old ground in more aesthetically pleasing ways. human instrumentality, even, was an idea that had been done multiple ways across multiple shows and franchises. but where it shines is the character drama; not a lot of mecha at the time had “childhood trauma that was NOT directly related to war” as the main plot beat (though it was present in many, it wasn’t the throughline like it is in eva.) it’s not done well ultimately (whether it ends in omedetou or LCL) but that is a new thing it does i guess

it’s an all style no substance show that is self-aware about it (just see what anno had to say about the christian imagery) while its fans generally are Not, but the style is great. and it’s short enough that even if it’s bad there isn’t too much of a time investment.

Otaku (And why you're wrong about them)

Everybody has a form of entertainment or hobby they enjoy in their free time.

Nerds, Geeks, Fans, Otaku, whatever... Are commonly derided by society for doing things that are "not productive". They have been framed as obsessed losers, among many other things; just for deciding to enjoy things.

They're often caricaturized as having poor social skills, poor hygiene, being creepy rapists, obsessive fans that would do many things to the creators of their favorite media, and many many other things.

But the other day a tik Tok went viral over a dependent performing a flying body pressing on a district judge over her bench. Why that's relevant in a moment;

There's plenty of *acceptable* forms of hobbies and entertainment. In this same context we talk about "Otaku" for knowing how animation and computers work; gentlemen's clubs (That is; strip clubs) are often considered one of those "acceptable" forms of entertainment. Despite one of the core arguments against "liking Anime" as the depiction of women in "lewd" situations.

Or you know; One of the Actors in the Avengers on a good day. (As long as they're not *actually* in their costumes it's fine. I promise)

Despite being criticized for their "lack of productive behavior" Otaku and Fans often do work like writing fan-fiction, starting shows like "Game Theory", being Jordan Peterson, cataloguing works of fiction, costuming, acting, modeling, and all sorts of other creationary efforts based on their favorite content.

And while the mainstream knows this, they still look down on Otaku for their [Game of Thrones] and [50 shades of gray] obsessions.

Just cuz you can't find "real paying work" doing the things you enjoy doing; doesn't mean you should stop doing it entirely. If you enjoy it; it behooves you practice it. And many called geeks and Otaku have found careers simply because they put their works of fandom out there.

Don't get me wrong; there are crazy people out there. Like the man who decided the judge was too lenient on him. But being a fan of something; doesn't make you crazy.

Nor does it make you any sort of Anti-Social creature.

As all Nerds and Geeks; it's usually a symptom of already not being accepted by society that ensure you put your self into something productive.

The Christians have a phrase; "Idle hands are the devil's playground." Meaning; being idle is *worse* than doing something that is considered "non-productive".

And you know; not taking your frustrations out on district court judges.
