When Adan-aran travels, he likes to do so through things that will keep him hidden and safe. Especially when he’s carrying Witchash. Hollow logs are perfect for this sort of thing.

anyway my most spiciest political take right now is so many people are showing how easy it is to lash out when they are feeling helpless, or to believe in a villain they can defeat on a smaller scale than the way the bigger wheels of the world are grinding beyond our reach, because they want to be able to do something, anything, even though that can be propaganda in and of itself, and it makes you lose track of the power of kindness and aid and support in our hands that we can do.
I think the biggest thing people can do is log off, not offline entirely, but log off the platforms where people are screaming at each other just because things feel so fraught that they have to scream and having a target lulls you into feeling like it is productive, and reach out to whoever it is you DO want to help, and ask them what you can do. financially, volunteering, labor, prayer, therapy, buying phone cards, whatever.
it's not as emotionally cathartic as feeding into your own self righteous indignation by fighting strangers on the internet, it won't lie to you and tell you that you're singlehandedly making somebody across the world bulletproof or neutralizing somebody's weapon, but it is better, because it will be the truth that you need to hear, and agency over not the smallness of your limitations, but the actual span of your reach and your capability to help beyond wishing to be superhuman and hating yourself for not being that.

Hollow Water:
An Aqueous Tincture of the Wild
I would like to briefly discuss a form of natural water which, if located and collected, can be used to great effect in a variety of different magical operations. Namely, I want to talk about Hollow Water.
Hollow Water is a naturally occurring liquid, which is closely related to Stump Water, but which can specifically be found within the hollows of living trees. It is amassed over time through precipitation and ambient humidity, and becomes slowly saturated by an array of natural adulterants, such as soil, plant matter, and the putrefied remains of small animals. Such hollows—scientifically referred to as dendrotelmata—also serve as rich microhabitats that ecologically support multiple creatures, from insects, to mollusks, to amphibians.
Over time, I have come to recognize that this water can be used in a number of ways, but it is most powerfully suited to any forms of Wild Magic, including things like charming animals, shifting the weather, or locating needed plants. It also makes an irresistible libation to many sylvan spirits.
As I understand it, however, one must follow certain protocols in order to harness the power of Hollow Water:
One must seek the tree they plan to harvest from in silence—both there and back—and it must be done privately.
The tree in question should be circled thrice, towards the sun, upon meeting.
The water must be gathered by hand. For most people, myself included, the thought of reaching into a damp, dark, cavity is atavistically repellent, but for this very reason, the act of facing down that biological impulse is a very simple, but highly important, way to prove one’s resolve.
No animals present should be harmed or displaced.
And finally, the contents of the gathered water mustn't be strained.
Additionally, Hollow Water is at its most potent during the time of the Full Moon. In order to gather this particularly charged form of the water and maintain those special virtues, it should be gathered with a tin or tin-alloy vessel and then transferred to a clean glass container.

heart hollow writing updates from this week:
seriously drafted chapter 10. I've been stuck on it, but I think I've finally got the structure of it down. thank god bc this chapters been killing me for months.
redid the master arc list (now labelled 03/22/2024) to accommodate for three books. nice and even pacing for all my big events. it feels right.
I'm considering adding a 13th chapter to book one. something to tie it off with a pretty bow; add some excitement for the remainder of the series without leaving it off on a total cliffhanger.
broke down the thematic north stars and underlying narratives for each book. this will help me to fill in the gaps later.
jotted down some ideas for possible book names. I think book one will be called "Heart Hollow." just that. nothing more to indicate there's a beginning or an end.
wrote a drabble for chapter 10. I remember now just how much I love writing romance.
that's about it for this week. nothing added to the actual document....... I am planning to work on chapter 10 this upcoming week, much more free time! yippee!!
