My first time watching Glass Onion it was obvious that Miles' speeches were bullshit, but I still searched for any hidden meaning there might be.
The second time is a different experience though because every time my brain starts to search for meaning, I feel like Benoit Blanc discovering that no, there is absolutely no hidden meaning.
It's bullshit it's all nothing nothing nothing! It is just how you end up talking when everyone reacts to your self-aggrandizing word vomit like it is actually wisdom.
Also, legit, when Miles gave his stupid bullshit speech about what the word 'disruptor' means to him, I shit you not I was like holy shit am I back in business school right now?!
Miles must have given speeches like that at 100 business school graduations, goddamn.
Like, the motherfuckers really do sound like this. We didn't have any billionaires come, but we had a lot of millionaire guest speakers in my classes, and they fucking talk like that.
They all think they're rugged capitalists, but they're just glass onions!
#original#glass onion#it's just. business school prepared me really well to succeed in the business world as a straight white neurotypical#able-bodied cis man with a large network of very wealthy friends and family#I really would have killed it if I wasn't a queer autistic cripple!#even the best teachers seemed incredibly unaware of the enormous privilege that they were assuming in their students when they taught#but they basically presupposed you had infinite energy and savings and a disturbingly large number of my classes were just#lectures about pushing as hard as you can no matter what#they used Starbucks as an example of an admirable case of somebody who persisted in going to 150 investor pitches before being approved#and like. how many people do you know who have enough savings to schedule plan and attend 150 investor pitches?#how many people do you know who could set up even 12 through their connections?#where are those savings coming from? where are those investor pitch meetings coming from? those aren't easy to get!!#but none of this was ever mentioned it was just awesome that the guy kept trying I guess.#I have a sneaking suspicion that if I were to have dug deeper into some of the examples we were given that a lot of those#real life businesses probably started with a big big loan from somebody's parents#I was listening to the show you're wrong about which is a really good podcast and Michael Hobbs was like#anytime you see an article glorifying someone's financial success especially at a young age you should control F for 'parents'#because chances are you will probably see the word 'parents' somewhere next to the words 'million dollar loan'#anyway college is a scam. the community aspect was incredibly cool but I don't see why we as a culture need to only be able to access that#kind of community when we are paying a scam Institution a shitload of money for Educations that aren't helpful for the majority of us#if College was free then people could actually study things that are useful or fun for them#I took most of my courses just to fill out my major too. the point wasn't to learn it was to graduate.#and then it turned out that if you're disabled in the way i am it doesn't matter if you have a college degree!#but I'm sure miles would say I just need to pull myself up by my bootstraps. and that's why I'm glad his life got exploded 😌#andi kept him around for his money - why else would he be there when no one even liked him??#he was the bankroll#one time I swear to god we just had the guy from American Psycho just a real ass Patrick Bateman#it was wild watching that movie later and being like ???? I know this guy!#outside of the actual murder scenes everything in that movie is not exaggerated in the slightest those bitches really are like that#like my parents are not 1% level rich so there'd be no giant loans but they are rich. it'd be stupid to act like i didn't benefit from that

"Baby? Can you ask Lewis round for dinner!" you call and he comes trotting round the stairs your son in his arms.
“Mumma” your son cries opening his arms up for you to take him and you frown not being able to hold him anymore so you walk over to the sofa so he can lay down with you.
“Hello baby” you grin nuzzling his nose with yours making him burst out laughing and hold both sides of your cheeks.
“So, Lewis for dinner?” You grin.
“Yes let me message him darling” he says pulling you in for a kiss before tapping away at his phone.
iMessage:
Toto: Hello Lewis, Y/N wants you to come over for dinner. I suspect it’s to ask you about the Met Gala.
Lewis: Ah, yes when should I come over?
Toto: Anytime that pleases you!
“Lewis!” You squeal in excitement as he walks through the door to your home. You pull him in for a hug. You were currently very pregnant with yours and Totos second child, only a few weeks away from your due date. But you never stopped working as, to you it wasn’t really work, it was a hobby that you got payed very kindly to do.
“Hello beautiful” Lewis smiles kissing your cheek before looking you over.
“God look how big she’s getting!” He smiles looking at your stomach making you smile at hold it happily.
“She’s been kicking a lot, she’s ready to come out and meet her uncle” you grin elbowing him a little before your son comes running in.
“LEW LEW” he screams wrapping himself around his uncles leg. Lewis laughs before picking him up.
“So, will you let me style you for the met gala?” You ask, and he laughs a little.
“Mmm I’ve already had a few people reach out to me…” he says cheekily and you gasp in mock horror.
“WHO! Tell me now!” You demand and he laughs.
“Dolce and Gabana and Donatella Versace” he admits and you gasp even more.
“Oh Lord, I can’t fight for you when I’m pregnant” you sigh knowing it would be hard work considering that Lewis had a brand deal with Dolce and Gabana.
“Y/N, chill i was always going to go with you anyway. I trust no one more than i trust you” he grins and you pull him into a bigger hug, regardless of the struggle.
“I promise your going to look amazing!” You grin and he nods knowing you’d keep that up!

fan1: she’s tagged Lewis, does that mean he’s attending and she’s styling him?
-> fan2: I’m sure of it! She’s married to his team principle so she has those connections!
toto.wolff: I’m so proud of everything you’ve done this year!
-> y/user: thank you my love!
fan3: shes such an icon, everyone and their mum is wearing her right now
lewishamilton: I’m excited to work with you again!
You’d worked hard for the last few months, after you’d given birth you got straight to working on your new summer line of clothing which you decided on two different themes.
You’d been a little more stressed, trying to keep up with work while looking after both the kids. But it was getting too much with Toto often away. You’d asked him many times to come home and help but he was so busy with Mercedes and how rubbish their car was this year.
It took a whole breakdown of you sobbing to Lewis on the phone saying you were thinking you’d have to stop out of the Met Gala because of the stress to get Toto’s attention.
He came home straight away, pulling you into a hug and giving you the time off you needed. You spent time at a spa, relaxing and spending evenings with your husband which you felt like you hadn’t done for months now.
Of course you didn’t end up dropping out of the Gala, and you’d turned down all the rumours that you were. The rumours being that Versase and Dolce and Gabana were going to take on all your celebrity clients.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been here for you more” Toto sighs and he cuddles into you and kisses all over your face and down your jaw and onto your neck.
“It’s okay, I love you so much baby” you sigh into him and the feeling of him being present.

fan2: we gonna get loads of cool stuff this year, I can feel it!
“Can I have some design input” Toto says as he feeds your son while you feed your daughter.
“What do you mean design input?” You ask suspiciously.
Every time that he’d asked for this it had somehow been a ploy to incorpórate the Mercedes logo into something.
“Well I was thinking if you were styling Lewis you could …” he starts but you immediately shake your head and glare.
“No, no toto I - im not putting a Mercedes Logo on Lewis suit!” You cry with a laugh looking at him.
But Toto knew he had a few months to convince you.

Lewis: Is Mercedes plan a go?
Toto: I’m working in it, I’ll get her to cave in soon.

fan1: y/n slayed
zendaya: my beauty, it will never get old getting styled by you - a true legend 🫶🏼❤️
-> y/user: STOP! You rocked it! 🍒
You walked along the red carpet Toto on your arm as you smiled for the cameras.
“Y/N who are you wearing tonight?” One of the paps cheekily calls making you grin in their direction as they snap a picture.
“Myself of course!” You shot back with a massive smile on your face that had Toto’s heart soaring. It was a rare day in which you and Toto were free of the little monsters you guys called your children and you were both lapping up the time with one another.
“Looking fabulous Y/N” another shouts and you are walking down the carpet, greeting everyone who you had dressed before you meet up with Lewis.
“Hello” you smile and he pulls you into a hug.
“Looking radiant as ever” he says spinning you round making you chuckle. Lewis was quite literally a part of yours and Toto’s family at this point and so you always were acting like this.
“Now it’s time to face the crowd!” You smile before entering in for a night at the mets.

Royal Pain Part 26
Hello, and we have got to the end of the massive arc that culminated the last four chapters.
I also wrote this part before 24 and 25 because I couldn't figure out how to write Eddie having a hard time on tour, but the aftermath flowed from my fingers.
Also as a reminder this story is finished, I'm just posting on a regular schedule. This story is the longest fanfic I've ever written. Topping out at 58165 it's definitely longer than 50K fic I wrote for NaNoWriMo last year (Sandman, never finished or published.)

“You’ve been sitting on that sofa for an entire week,” Wayne growled. “Steve has called three times, your bandmates at least a dozen times each. Hell, boy Miranda has been calling concerned. So want to tell me what’s fucking got you so twisted?”
“I was given a choice out there on the road,” Eddie said, twisting his rings around his fingers. “Stay in Indy and play small time gigs for the rest of my adult life or go to LA and get an album and the chance at super stardom.”
Wayne sat down next him. “Sounds like a big decision to make.”
Eddie leapt to his feet. “That’s the problem. That’s what makes me so angry how fucking easy the choice is.”
Wayne cocked his head to the side. “Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate again, boy. Start talking.”
Eddie started pacing back and forth. “As much as I loved playing for so many people, I didn’t like that I could only connect with a handful of them and not even the good kind.” He rubbed his chin angrily. “I didn’t like how tired we all were. It was set up, sound check, play, break down and move on to the next fucking town. And that wasn’t including all the parties, interviews, and all that other shit.”
“That does sound exhausting, Ed.”
“I didn’t like how easy it was for them to tell me to drop Gareth as drummer just because he had trouble adjusting to the increased volume. The price of fame they said. Like it was so simple to throw away almost two decades of friendship for the sake of adoring crowds and hearing our music on the radio.”
“Oh, darlin’,” Wayne said softly. “They didn’t...”
“Oh they absolutely did,” Eddie raged. “I didn’t like how they thought that because me and Steve’s relationship was new that I would be able to find someone better. Someone who liked metal, someone who would be down for the ride.”
Wayne furrowed his brow. “That doesn’t sound like good advice.”
Eddie grabbed his hair pulled at it frustration. “The last straw was when they offered to let their tattooist to finish my back tattoo, because while my artist was good, theirs was better.”
He stopped abruptly and turned to face Wayne. “I picked Steve to do my tattoo on my back because he was the only one I trusted to make it meaningful. To understand the symbolism of making something of yourself when everyone is rooting against you. I made the decision before I fell in love with him and now that we’re a couple– and for them to just dismiss him like that? It made me so angry.”
“So what’s the problem? What’s got you so twisted around the bend?”
Eddie took a deep breath and let it out slow. “I’m fucking furious because I always thought that when fame and fortune came knocking I would throw open that door and march right through it. But now? Given the choice? I’m slamming the door in its face and walking away.”
Hot tears ran down his face. “And I don’t know why.”
He dropped to his knees and began to sob.
Wayne stood up and put his arms around his nephew’s shoulders, gently pulling him to his chest.
“Did that band you were traveling with say that?” he whispered into Eddie’s curls. “Because if they did, I swear to god I will burn every record and CD you have of theirs. Don’t think I won’t. I’ll delete them off your phone too.”
Eddie chuckled weakly. “No, no. They were kind. It was everyone else we met. Agents, managers, roadies, groupies, the people around Metallica every day.”
Wayne nodded.
“I was just constantly bombarded with hateful messages and the constant running at one hundred percent...” he whimpered. “I don’t want to do it.”
“Have you told your band that?” Wayne asked.
Eddie shook his head. “I don’t dare to. I was the one that was gung ho about the touring and everything. How do I tell them I don’t want to leave the comfort of Indianapolis and home?”
“Kinda like that,” Jeff said from the doorway. His arms were crossed and he was leaning against the frame. Peaking around him was Miranda with a concerned look on her face.
Eddie scrambled to his feet and wrapped his arms around his waist. “I’m sorry I’ve been a brat.”
Jeff took three giant steps forward and hugged him fiercely. “You’re not being a brat. You’re scared and trying to figure it all out on your own, but you don’t have to, okay? We’ve all been worried sick about you. But Steve especially. I’ll call all the boys down for a chat and you call Steve, okay?”
Eddie nodded.
He dialed the number he knew by heart.
“Baby?” he asked, unsure of the reaction he was going to get. He deserved to be yelled at. Cursed at. Broken up with. He’d hurt Steve the most with this little temper tantrum he’d been having.
“Eds?” Steve breathed. “Sunshine, are you okay? Wayne said you hadn’t been eating well or sleeping much. Say the word and I’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
Eddie’s lip began to quiver and tears spilled out of his eyes. “I need you. More than anything.”
“I’m on my way,” Steve said fiercely.
Eddie looked over at Jeff.
“Tell Steve Brian will swing by and pick him up.”
Eddie nodded and relayed the message back to Steve.
“I’ll be at my apartment,” Steve said. “I’ll have Robin arrange my schedule, don’t you worry about thing, baby.”
“Mm’k.”
“I love you, Eds.”
Eddie closed his eyes and breathed in the warmth of that simple phrase. “Love you, too, pretty boy. Come quick.”
“I promise.”
*
Steve piled into Brian’s car. It was the newest, having bought it right before they got picked up by Metallica. He had finally saved up enough money to replace his beater.
Gareth and Gethin in the backseat. Gethin had come up to Indy to watch his twin’s apartment while he was gone and just ended up staying. He was currently looking for a job so that he could move in with Gareth full time.
At least that what they said on the trip down. The twins and Brian were intent on filling the air with talk and Steve let them. He let them fill him in on the tour and everything that had been going on since they’d left.
Steve couldn’t be for certain, but it sounded like that touring hadn’t been fun for anyone. Even after a week of rest, he could still make out the circles under their eyes and how hunched over they were with just sheer exhaustion.
A feeling Steve felt all too well.
Gethin was pressed against his twin’s side and was rubbing his neck soothingly.
Steve looked at Brian.
His face was set, hard and unflinching. He was going to make the drive to Hawkins as fast as he could and still avoid the cops.
Steve was grateful Brian was driving because he didn’t think he would have made the distinction to avoid breaking the law. He would have gunned it and flipped off any cop that tried to catch him.
After awhile, Steve was getting the oddest feeling that Brian was used to speeding down this stretch of highway because there were points where he would slow down for a few miles and then speed right back up.
Soon enough they were pulling up to Wayne’s trailer and piling out the car.
*
Eddie sat on the sofa with Jeff and Miranda on either side of him, just hugging him.
Wayne was busying himself in the kitchen, getting ready to feed the hoard that was about to descend on his home.
The door opened up and Brian, Gareth, and Gethin all stumbled through the entryway. Eddie was on his feet in an instant, Jeff and Miranda not far behind.
And then the trio at the door parted and there stood Steve. Looking just as tired and worn as Eddie felt.
“Stevie?” Eddie asked, taking a step toward him uncertainly.
Steve threw open his arms and Eddie ran straight into them. They wrapped their arms around each other and just sobbed.
“I’m here, Eds,” Steve murmured into Eddie’s neck. “I’m here. I love you so much.”
Eddie lifted his head and kissed him hard. “I love you, too. I regret leaving you behind, sweetheart. It nearly killed me. Every song I wrote was about you. About missing you. I don’t even want to leave you ever again, I can’t.”
The silence that followed that statement was deafening.
Steve led Eddie back over to couch and sat them both down. “Tell us everything, babe.”
And so Eddie did. He told them everything. Everything he had told Wayne, everything that had been weighing on his mind since they started touring. It all just came out in a flood.
They all listened patiently.
“Why didn’t you tell us you felt like that while we were on the road?” Gareth asked. “I knew what they were saying about me, but I also knew you guys wouldn’t drop me. If you had me about that I would have been able to reassure you that I’m not going anywhere, okay?”
Eddie flushed with embarrassment. “I didn’t know how to bring it up, it was so vile, man.”
Jeff gave his hand a squeeze. “Well, I think that you did a bang up job telling us now and that’s what really matters.”
“Someone offered to ship me out to LA and record an album,” Eddie finally admitted. “Not the band, just me. I told him that I wouldn’t go without you guys and he laughed in my face. Told me to cut the dead weight and be a star.” He dragged his hands over his face.
“But there were other offers. Good ones. Ones that included the band, well most of it, anyway. Always under the proviso that Gareth be replaced either on tour or all together. They didn’t want to make any accommodations for him even though there is a drummer with one god damn arm!”
“So the options are,” Brian said, “stay in Indy doing what we’ve been doing, only better because of the money we got for doing this tour. Go to LA without Gareth. Go to LA with Gareth but only as a studio musician and take some person we don’t know on tour with us. Does that sound about right?”
Just then Gareth’s phone went off. He looked at it with a frown. It wasn’t a number recognized so he let it go to voicemail. He pulled it up after the notification popped up.
He listened to message with wide eyes. “Hey guys, I think we have another option.” And he played the message so everyone could hear.
“Hey, Mr Hughes,” the tinny voice said through the speaker. “This is Murray Bauman, I’m music producer, we spoke in Las Vegas. I think I have the perfect deal for you boys. You were telling me that touring was really hard on you and that if there was an option you wouldn’t do that. I know you weren’t speaking for all your band, but I could tell that they would do anything for you, all four of you being such good friends.
“So the reason for this call is that I own a small music company in Bloomington and boy do I have a deal for you all. You would make a record through us, we would sell and distribute the record, keeping a portion of the sales, of course. But you wouldn’t have to tour. You have a steady gig as I understand it. If your fans want to see you play, they’ll know where to find you.
“But give me a call, we’ll hash out the details. My phone number is 555-555-2080...” and then message beeped, signaling the end of the voicemail.
Eddie looked down at the phone and then back up at Gareth. “Oh.”
Gareth grinned. “We don’t even have to take his offer, but I vote we listen to it. Brian can bring Cecil.”
Brian nodded. “He’s only got a semester left of law school, but I’ll have him brush up on his contract law to be on the safe side.”
Jeff raised his hand. “All in favor of hearing Mr Bauman out raise your hand?”
Eddie, Brian, and Gareth’s hands shot up.
“Sounds good,” Jeff said. “You call him back and set it up and if it doesn’t work out we can vote again.”
Brian shook his head. “Nah. I think if it doesn’t work, we stick to Nightmare Holes. We took a swing at it and if it’s a miss then we tried. I thought I wanted the touring and everything that came with stardom, but like Eddie I learned I wanted the romanticized version of it. I’ll be happy playing in front of our friends for the rest of our lives.”
The rest of the band nodded.
Soon everyone getting up to go back to Indy, but Steve stayed behind, he would go back up with Eddie in the morning. They had things to discuss that went deeper then the band.
****
Part 27 Part 28 Epilogue
I told you I would fix it.
Also a little BTS, the reason in my head for why things went wrong on tour but immediately righted itself when Eddie and Steve met up again? Steve still has Eddie's lucky pick. ;)

Exploring the missed potential of Anders' character
Anders was an interesting character with a backstory and a set of characteristics that would have been amazing if explored further, but I believe his character's potential was tragically squandered by bad narrative choices and poor writing.
Here's a list of how I think his narrative potential hadn't been fully explored:
His name really isn't "Anders" -- it was a name given to him when he arrived at the circle at age 12 and was so traumatized he refused to speak, not even to say his name. BioWare has never revealed Anders' birth name. We also know that he has Anderfels heritage on his father's side, who migrated to Ferelden as a boy. It could have been revealed, through his birth name, that he has some connection to an Anderfels-related plotline: he could be related to the First Warden, or his family could have prominence or influence in the Grey Wardens of Weisshaupt.
Anders is a mage, a Grey Warden, and a host to a Spirit of Justice. This combination of spirit healing (already a rare branch of magic), Blight magic, and a connection to a Spirit of the Fade has never occurred before in known canon. Anders being connected to the mages, the Circle, the Grey Wardens, the darkspawn, and Fade Spirits means that there is a whole world of possibilities to explore with that combination, so many things you could do with his character.
Leveraging off Anders' connection with Justice, a potential key to finding the cure for the Calling could have involved possession by a Fade Spirit. (We already know Fade Spirits are essential to curing Tranquility -- perhaps there's more we could do with that.)
Anders could potentially be a companion to both the Hero of Ferelden and the Champion of Kirkwall, depending on your World State. If your HoF didn't die during the Archdemon battle and continued to Amaranthine, Anders (together with Justice) is the only NPC companion who has traveled with both the HoF and Hawke, and is also a potential love interest to Hawke. (Zevran and Isabela also are NPCs acquainted with both the HoF and Hawke, but only Anders has been a party companion for both.)
Anders could potentially be the only known Grey Warden to have met both the Architect and Corypheus.
Anders could have potentially have battled demons in the Fade three times: his Harrrowing, the Blackmarsh sequence in DA Awakening, and the "Night Terrors" Feynriel rescue mission in DA2. Considering these experiences, plus the fact he has his own in-built Spirit GPS in the form of Justice to help him navigate the Fade, Anders has the highest potential to be the one to rescue Hawke/Stroud/Loghain/Alistair from the Fade (if left there in DAI and has the potential to be rescued).
Anders may have political connections to the throne of Ferelden, if Alistair was made King, and was present at and endorsed Anders' conscription into the Wardens.
If your Warden was Mahariel, Anders would have a common connection with Merrill. If your Warden was Amell, Anders could have an extra connection to Hawke, having known their relative. A Warden Amell or Surana could also have an added layer of their relationship with Anders, having grown up in the same Circle together. (Anders just has a lot of connections to famous people and an extensive network that would have made everyone on LinkedIn jealous, is what I'm sayin 😆)
Anders being a prominent figure in the mage rebellion could also have been explored further -- especially in relations to Fiona, who was coincidentally another mage advocating for mage freedom and with a connection to the Grey Wardens and Alistair.
I just think it's tragic that Anders had so much potential -- arguably one of the characters with the most potential in the overall plot -- and yet BioWare squandered all that potential to push their brand of "grey morality".
The narrative and writing could have framed Anders as a heroic character -- it would have been so easy, the chances were right there -- which would have opened up the chance to explore the potential of his character further in subsequent works, but instead in DAI, BioWare doubled down on slandering his character to drive the point home that he was a villain, and closing off further exploration of his character post DA2.

Katniss, Oh Katniss.
Katniss Everdeen is such an iconic heroine. She sparked so many young girls to pick up archery as a sport. However, there are two different Katniss that exist - the book Katniss and the Movie Katniss. In this post, we will be talking about Book Katniss today.
Katniss is our narrator in the books. It is the first point of view, we get her thoughts and everything through her eyes. Katniss is an incredibly blunt narrator - she tells things exactly how she views them with her opinions mixed in. She definitely suffers from C-PTSD (Complex PTSD) from growing up in Panem.
Names are important in "The Hunger Games". Most of the characters have Roman names, like Plutarch and Cinna, and others have plants. Katniss reveals that she is named after the water plant Sagittaria, otherwise known as "Katniss" or "Arrowheads". The plants grow these potato-like tubers that are edible. Her father taught her that "As long as you can find yourself, you'll never starve" (Collins, 52). From what we get from her name, Katniss is a born survivor and has a connection with her main weapon - arrows.
Second, we can look at her at Katniss' appearance. This is established on page 8 as Katniss describes her friend, Gale. "He could be my brother. Straight black hair, olive skin, we even have the same gray eyes. But we're not related, at least not closely. Most of the families who work the mines remember one another this way." (Collins, 8). Katniss reveals in the same breath that her mother and Prim do not look like her with their light hair and blue eyes. This is because Katniss's mother is from the merchant class.
While there are no official maps of Panama, Katniss ensures we know exactly where District Twelve is. She said, "District 12 was in a place called Appalachia. Even hundreds of years ago, they mined coal here, which is why our miners have to dig so deep.” (Collins, pg 41). Appalachia is a region of the USA that is set in the Appalachian mountains, it makes up "423 counties across 13 states and spans 206,000 square miles" (Appalachian Regional Commission). Most people argue that District Twelve is either in West Virginia or eastern Kentucky on details about the weather and fauna and flora but Collins left the details muddled.
While this is complete headcanon ("ideas held by fans of series that are not explicitly supported by sanctioned text or other media" Merriam-Webster Dictionary), a lot of readers take the location of District 12 and Katniss's description to believe that she is indigenous or a part of the Melungeon people, a marginalized mixed-race Appalachian community. Regardless of whether you believe in this headcanon or not, Katniss's olive skin and grey eyes are an important distinction in her community that she is from the Seam, the poorest part of District 12.
Katniss in the first book is a rough and traumatized young girl. I feel like a lot of people focus on her bitterness at the world. Katniss doesn't trust anything at face value even if she's not in a stressful situation. She wants her family to be safe and well-fed, no matter what it costs her personally. Poaching is a high offense in District 12 after all and she has been going in the woods since she was 11 to feed her family. What most people forget about Katniss is that she is King. She loves her sister, Prim, more than life itself and she tries again and again to make sure she can have some semblance of a childhood then when she meets Rue in the arena, she cannot help but ally her - mostly because she reminds her of Prim.
"I can almost hear Haymitch groaning as I team up with this wispy child. But I want her. Because she's a survivor, and I trust her, and why not admit it? She reminds me of Prim." (Collins,
In later books, Katniss allows the circle of people she cares about to grow. In "Catching Fire", she comes across two women named Bonnie and Twill, on the run from District Eight to the supposed District Thirteen. Despite the fact it might get her in deep trouble because of the Capitol watching her, Katniss helps them.
"First I give them all the food in my pack, grain and dried beans mostly, but there's enough to hold them for a while if they're careful. Then I take Twill out in the woods and try to explain the basics of hunting. She's got a weapon that if necessary can convert solar energy into deadly rays of power, so that could last indefinitely. When she manages to kill her first squirrel, the poor thing is mostly a charred mess because it took a direct hit to the body. But I show her how to skin and clean it. With some practice, she'll figure it out. I cut a new crutch for Bonnie. Back at the house, I peel off an extra layer of socks for the girl, telling her to stuff them in the toes of her boots to walk, then wear them on her feet at night. Finally I teach them how to build a proper fire." (Collins, pg 68).
Katniss is a fascinating character to study because of her complexities. This is barely scratching the surface of her character. In the next post, I'll be examining the Movie Version of Katniss and how she differs from the Book Katniss. See you then.

me rambling under the cut
one of the least bad/most annoying side effects of atsv is how much it fucks over my thinking process when i’m trying to write a more realistic way of miles meeting up with people and friends from other worlds while being a student + spider-man + having a family that likes to spend time together, esp since i like to throw some comic characters into the mix. like it seems easy right? open a portal and go say hi. except you have to still plan ahead, because i have the times set different (for example peter is 30 minutes ahead and pavitr is an entire 12 hours), everyone has lives outside of being a vigilante (though gwen and margo give me the most freedom with this), and sometimes people just don’t wanna hang! don’t get me started on the portal itself, which you need to find a hidden spot to open and then take a few seconds to go through, to another side that you aren’t sure of the exact location. did you see the way the portal to pavitr’s world had Miles? and the way the go-home-machine sent gwen flying? of course, those are two diff types of portals, & there’s a workaround to everything, but it’s still a lot to consider and it just results in me taking forever to actually get shit down on paper. oh my god and the subtle tells of shit being resolved after btsv (bc i am not dealing with that) making the characters seem too ooc when they technically aren’t. bc it could happen. i’m always losing the idgaf war i love details i love hypotheticals and i love hidden meanings
another thing that isn’t canon and is just me making it harder for myself is me adding in anxiety and autism and a weird learned social behavior into the mix for miles. sure, guys and girls hang out. sure, they can be just friends. but he’s a guy who LIKED gwen and his parents don’t have the best first impression but are generally okay with her, and he’s at the age where all his girl friends will be teased as possible girlfriends by damn near everyone he knows. so it’s reasonable for him to not be around her while also around other people who don’t know the two of them like that, because dealing with that shit is exhausting AND embarrassing, stuff we both know Miles doesn’t like even if he can move on pretty quickly. so i expect him to sorta be like “nahhh… my cousins are here and… look let’s just hang out next time pleaseeee” and here’s where the anxiety and autism come in. miles (atsv) is not the type to care about how people view him based on his friends, and autism will result in him missing a lot of social cues but it’s kinda obvious to me that he doesnt miss the more romantic ones when it comes to gwen and how people view them together. this doesn’t help though because he doesn’t know what the do about it! he KNOWS the right thing: don’t let others get to you and work your shit out with gwen the way you know is right. but the anxiety makes him overthink about how gwen views all this (which i don’t actually go into detail that much about bc this is miles’s POV) because she means so much to him. and of course the whole “do i actually like her or is this just really deep connection or” from autism sometimes making it hard to define your feelings and a relationship, and anxiety making it a scary minefield to traverse if you wanna bring it up with said person. and don’t forget the awareness that the anxiety is making everything seem way worse than what it is, which Miles has and is so fed up by.
It all comes off as Miles eventually getting annoyed and tired of Gwen, which you know she did not take well. anyways…. throw all of this in with being a highschool student with a busy schedule and you’ve got miles’s main source of problems . too many friends and too many mental disorders and not enough time . i’m rereading this post and realizing none of it makes sense and kind of meandered .

WE ARE RIGHTEOUS IN HIM
"..therefore be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus." - 2 Timothy 2:1
God's grace is undeserved, this means that God's goodness is not expressed to each of us because we are good; it is given to us because He is good! Sometimes it's hard to even wrap our minds around this fact. This is because most of us have, in reality, believed that grace is based upon performance and our religious works. However, receiving grace from God has absolutely nothing to do with our performance at all; it is completely based upon undeserved favor.
If God's favor were based upon our ability to do right and perform well, then we would not need His grace.
We would then believe that because of our own abilities we have been blessed. This is such a deceptive lie of the enemy. He does not desire that we embrace the revelation of God's grace.
BONDAGE IN FEELING PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED
"And if by grace, then it is no longer of works: otherwise grace is not longer grace." - Romans 11:6a
There is bondage in feeling as if you are continually "missing the mark." Performance-oriented people experience difficulty resting in God, which is linked to God's grace. We can spend many years believing that God is disappointed in us if we didn't quite measure up to His standards.
We can also be deceived into believing that God's blessings are linked to how well we perform – as if His blessings were dependent upon our "good behavior" or "religious performance." This false belief sets us up for even more failure and disappointment. It becomes cyclical.
If we are ashamed, there is no confidence to boldly run to Him for grace and empowerment to transform. Shame and guilt robs us of our confidence to run boldly into God's arms – in fact, it causes us to run away from Him!
God knows we will never be perfect. He does not desire perfection due to our own strength for that would be "deserved favor." Grace is undeserved favor. The Lord desires for us to know that He is daily perfecting us through His divine grace. To believe that "it is up to us and our own ability to become transformed" is to believe that "the finished work at the Cross was not effective". Jesus Himself was perfect and, therefore, we are blessed and empowered to live holy through Him.
"through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." - Romans 5:2
Many of us have been blinded concerning how to receive God's blessings. The Accuser of the Brethren has lied to us and said that God's blessings are based upon "works" rather than simply because God loves us. Remember God IS love! You cannot separate God from love. He blesses us simply because He loves us.
WALKING IN THE SUPERNATURAL AND DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE
"Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably..." - Hebrews 12:28
Many might ask what the connection is between grace and the supernatural. We can't walk in the supernatural without His grace!
Our faith needs to rest upon Jesus and the price He paid for the sick to be healed, the poor to be blessed, people to be set free, etc. If we focus on Jesus and His ability to heal the sick many of us would experience more miracles. Because we haven't seen the miracles for which we cry out, many times we feel that we didn't "perform" well and, as a result, we will shrink back from stepping out and praying for the sick or for demons to flee, etc.
When Jesus came to earth, He brought Heaven with Him. He came so that He could live in us – we became the Tabernacle for the Spirit of God. It is His ability in us that will empower us to experience more of the supernatural.
"To them God has chose to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." - Colossians 1:27
RIGHTEOUSNESS
"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." - 2 Corinthians 5:21
Paul said in Galatians 2:20-21 (KJV), "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain."
HOW DO WE WALK IN GOD'S FAITH?
In order to walk by this kind of faith you need to understand your Christ identity. You must understand that all your sins have been forgiven -- past, present, and future -- you are never out of right standing with God. There is never any guilt, shame, or condemnation (Romans 8:1,2) to keep you from moving forward in bearing fruit that remains for God's advancing Kingdom through your Christ calling.
You are one with Christ (John 17:21) -- lay hands on the sick and expect them to recover -- believe for your miracle NOW!
When the word "righteousness is mentioned," many people immediately think that it involves more performance and perfect behavior – a list of "do's and don'ts" from God.  Righteousness under the New Covenant is OUR RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD and is a gift from God and cannot be earned! (See Romans 5:17). Be assured that you are living through Jesus’ righteousness  -- not your own. His Spirit lives in you and, therefore, you are qualified to walk in the supernatural! We need to step out and do it!
ACHIEVE YOUR FUTURE
The Accuser of the Brethren came against many in the Bible who God used mightily. The Bible is full of stories about people who were living in ordinary circumstances and empowered to do the impossible.
God sees much in you! He desires for you to boldly run to His throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16) right now to receive a fresh empowerment to achieve His PURPOSE for your life (your DESTINY in Christ). Don't allow past shame or guilt to hold you back any longer. The Lord desires to release His blessings to you today. Receive it; believe it and it is yours!

If they kill Will off, I think that would literally be the worst narrative decision ever. It would be so so bad.
If they’re really intending to give us a happy ending to the show at the end of S5, Will dying is really just not going to great move on their behalf for that happy ending (most of the main characters dying isn’t doing that to be honest).
From what they’ve been saying, Will is really going to be a key part of S5 and his connection to Vecna/UD will be explored a lot more seeming to answer some of the unanswered questions about his disappearance and possession.
And if S5 is meant to come full circle back to S1 then the core of S1 was pretty much saving Will so if Will is the focus this season then I can see us returning back to the roots of S1 a little in S5.
I know Max was the focus of this season and things didn’t really end well for her but S4 was meant to have a dark ending anyhow. It was supposed to be a loss and they were prepping us up for a dark season to come beforehand too.
S5 is the final season and with the dark ending of this season; we’re supposed to except S5 ending on a much better note and wrapping up things as a whole in terms of plot lines and character arcs.
David Harbour has already mentioned that the ending of the show is going to be beautiful. And I think the Duffers compared it to Schitt’s Creek.
Besides, Will, as a character, has been suffering throughout the entire show. Killing him off is the worst ending they could give him.
His character is written with themes such as overcoming trauma and being empowered by the ones he loves (similar to how El and Max are written; they’re also characters we except happy endings for).
I also think the parallels between him and Vecna are more Voldemort/Harry Potter in nature rather than alluding to Will being a villain or dying (HP nearly died but then he didn’t). Something that sets Will apart from Vecna is the fact that he has a support system filled with people who love him for who he is and that’s what made us as an audience believe in S1 and 2 that he’ll be fine.
I don’t know about you but going back and watching S1/2 if they kill off Will in S5 would put a really odd taste in my mouth since those seasons clearly focused on saving Will. It would render so many of the characters’ efforts as pointless (Joyce, Jonathan, Hopper, the entire party).
The idea that all of those characters growing, changing and getting happy endings whilst having Will die just sounds so icky because he’s been through so much and him dying is just tragic.
He’s been kidnapped. He got stuck in another scary realm at 12. He’s been possessed. He’s had this chilling and odd connection with this evil demon who’s trying to use him/kill him and what not.
Then, coming to his emotional arc, it isn’t great either.
He’s struggles with fitting in. He’s been abused by his dad. He’s been bullied throughout his entire life for being different.
Now, it’s like he’s struggling even more, his friends are growing up and changing, becoming people he doesn’t recognise. He has been neglected and left behind too many times.
He also is different and he’s gay and in love with his best friend and sometimes it makes him feel like a mistake but then again it doesn’t because loving his best friend comes so naturally to him.
And he’s had to sacrifice his own feelings time and time again to satisfy his best friend and his sister. He helped them mend their relationship even if he was suffering on the inside. It feels so icky for him to go through all of that and then get killed at the end of the show whilst his best friend and sister get their happy ending or what not.
He has such a good heart and the suffering is painful. He has done no wrong and is always there for everyone in this entire show even at the expense of his own wellbeing. Why make this perfectly good character suffer so much and do him no justice towards the end of the show?
Not to mention, how problematic it is to make a character queer then make them suffer for it and then kill them off later on with no payoff? It would be bury the gay trope at its finest and that queer people are expendable in terms of the storyline?!
In conclusion, I’m sorry for the rant but I just want to say fuck all those stupid theories, Will Byers is living through this and living through this as a fucking hero and savior and he’s going to get the happiest ending possible because he deserves it.
I agree with you. After all of the trauma our characters have endured, they deserve an ending that is triumphant. It's the only thing that would make sense narratively the whole overarching story of the show has been about saving Will and saving Hawkins. Killing Will off would be about the least triumphant thing they could do, and it would make so much of that storytelling feel moot.

Hey, Henry. A question relating to academic settings which might overlap with yours, so I hope you can help me with this:
Does the "prestige" of an academic institution (for an undergrad degree level) hold major/significant importance when one moves out internationally to pursue higher studies for research in scientific discipline (masters or PhD abroad)? Or does it depend on the grades simply?
The uni's that I've been looking into have the stats to be pretty much uniform across the board but this one uni alone holds a higher (in fact, the highest) status in terms of "prestige" or status in my country, senior in age, funding etc., but at the ug level, nothing distinguishable against the others except for the above factors. In fact, it's more commonly preferred for masters and PhD than UG and there aren't much scope for exchange student programs and such, so maybe not great international relations.
my question: is a country wide "eminence" (which, I've known from the alumini of this specific uni, is slightly waned, more or less) of an academic institution carry weight across the globe in academia? or can the CGPA and skills of the student suffice to make it up to top programs for higher studies?
on an unrelated note, I enjoy your occasional philosophical musings and it is food for many long ponderings of my own; but I'm curious to know how you approach the different fields of philosophy? I often find myself to be floundering through it (I have specific values for myself; a certain philosophy that to me is absolute, and yet). I think I find its understanding essential but limit myself so as to be not overwhelmed. How do you handle it? I find it to be a kind of... enigmatic subject and I'm naturally curious and drawn towards it but, like I said, some kind of vertigo effect.
sorry for so many questions, and thank you! for your time! Wish you a good day/night, Henry!
Dear Anon,
I admit, as a lowly undergrad myself I might not be the best to answer this question but based on the wide variety of people I know the key to academia, whether this is fair I leave up to you, is networking.
I think the eminence of an institution when viewed globally can vary from country to the country with the exception of a few very well known institutions, so it can be difficult to make a general statement. I would suggest perusing around linkedin, seeing where alumni went and studied abroad, specifically alumni in your field of study to help indicate how well represented your institution is abroad.
Academic achievement should definitely not be overlooked, whether it can compensate for I'm not entirely sure. A PHD is obviously rather different from undergrad, and as many say people who do well in undergrad don't necessarily do well in research, so if you are specifically interested in that I would suggest seeking out professors and cold-mailing them if you could assist with their research or at least make contact with them about their research.
To put it shortly, a well-known institution can help but it isn't necessary. Academic achievement can also help, but it depends on the achievement (is it purely grades for classes or also independent work) but above all try and get to know as much people in your field as you can because they will likely be the most helpful in the end. (This also depends on how competitive your field is obviously, for some fields in some places I know there is barely any competition for a Masters' programme for example).
As to your second question, I'm afraid I don't have a neat solution in the form of a 12 step programme. I tend to, rather diffusely, read whatever I am interested in. I have reached a point in my knowledge where I naturally draw connections between the many disciplines and that has been rewarding in a way I cannot adequately put into words.
As a concrete suggestion, I would primarily suggest reading works you are interested in. Many philosophers, even in a work which is supposed to be about a specific discipline, tend to fall into a broad range of disciplines within philosophy. Once you've finished a work, look up secondary literature exploring the specific, or all, disciplines you are interested in and that are covered in the book.
Classification in philosophy is fluid, almost wholly dependent on understanding of the terms we use. This doesn't mean all classification is arbitrary (Existentialism is a humanism, you can safely categorise as existentialist literature) but I wouldn't worry about it too much when reading and studying philosophy on your own. Enjoy the works, savour the experience of reading and record your thoughts on it. As you read more, your knowledge will expand and a map with the different disciplines will slowly appear to you.

15th March 2023
15th March 2023 Day 2
That lack of sleep from the 4:30am cramps meant, I forgoed my want to be there when sir enters. I slept an extra 15 minutes and reached 8minutes before call time. Other than 2 of the boys everyone was already there warming up and I felt a bit shit. That extra 20 minutes early everyone comes, feels like a sign of community, setting up the room, warming up together, I told myself, unless I’m super sleep deprived, I won’t do it anymore.
By the way I haven’t mentioned yet. We are prepping a play to perform end May. we will be rehearsing morning till afternoon 6 days a week till the performance (with 5 days off for Eid,)  which will be 25 performances over 10-12 days! It seems a lot but trust me 2 months is Nothing, especially since we have miles to go. The day was super cloudy and so was Sir’s mood. I can feel the urgency to get the group synced but we are not. Not yet. One of the boys didn’t come, the shadow one, but nothing was said. First half we could sense sir’s frustration today that we all barely know each other and aren’t syncing. Today’s break I actually got. Sat on the roof (you saw my insta story with the transgender lady doing what my sister says is probably a tiktok (egula buzi na.)) I love Shilpakala, at any given time there are people singing, dancing, acting, there’s a jute fair downstairs, multiple events, in the evenings it is soo happening. However in the morning, there is this lovely inner circle calm around the scare people in the building. Only those who are the core team, or building their deep dedications are there at times like 8am. I feel amazing to be part of that. I started my career with western music and later did bangla music, I never really did the Dhaka route, of Shishu Academy, Chayanaot, Shilpokala. I’m the English medium girl who opened for Nemesis in Russian Cultural Centre, and later it was only through my choir Ghaashphoring and when I joined Mita Huqs Suurteertho that I got to do more traditional venues and events. I love it. My perspective of life is different, always has been. It’s not that my family isn’t Bengali enough, if you know them, you know that’s the opposite of true. But it’s that I was always different, I’ve always lived in my own world. A friend of mine, when told that im doing a play about 1971, instantly said, oh isn’t 1971 done to death already? And I felt like, not for me! I’ve never worked with it! I’ve never had that exposure to films/songs/events. Not because they don’t happen, it’s because I”ve never had my own connection to it. And so no, it’s not done to death! There are people like me, of my generation and younger who just know the basics from our class 4 textbooks, we’ve slept through 16 December and 26th March holidays. The English medium schooling system has  always had us not be as Bangali and aspire to be more Western, more “international” and sure that has helped me in some places, but be it Berklee or in my career, it is my connection to my roots that has gotten me places, and I am on a journey in Dhaka for the past 8 years to know all the things I missed. And I know for a fact there are many many like me, some who will never know, and some who are frustrated that they don’t. And yes there are aspects we get stuck on about 1971.. But the women’s side of the war, is the least talked about, least films, books, songs, museums, memorials. On top of that, it could be that this particular artist has not worked on a topic others have, just because others have I don’t feel like we should be limited exploring it. Anyway, Day 2 I still drooped during text reading, (diet coke didnt help, shall i try caffeine?), my left leg was slightly sprained from the fall; but we read M2, now we know all the 3 M stories. We were given some time to think about all 3 Ms and demonstrate some things about how we interpret all 3 M stories. I imagined one to be very forlorn and look out the window and as I did so to channel her, I saw something that I had been hunting for, just on the street of Segunbagicha (I’ll write later as certain peeps read the blog and I don’t want to give it away yet.) Despite the cloudiness of the morning vibes, overall day 2 in class went well, and we were assigned one each to work on for the actual “audition” and character development process.
If you are on my insta, you know I did a long walk through Ramna Park and DCL. Those are things I hope to have in my routine and write about as I explore more. I’m still struggling with time and sleep, this day too I could not get to my homework before it was 11pm, my remainder of the musical admin work is piling up too. I am trying to schedule my life, so I have less work hours outside this play, and still can afford my life. I will make it happen, some plans in the works. (Just need to wrap up some cocacola stuff :P ASAP)

Mimi and Daisuke
Send me two names among the following 12 and I’ll write a short analysis post about them:
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji
Tumblr media
Whether canon provides input on them or not:
Interestingly enough, this is one of the few older/younger Chosen Children relationships they do put some kind of emphasis on besides the usual set ups (Daisuke with Taichi/Yamato, Miyako with Sora/Mimi and Iori with Koushirou/Jyou) and even the World Tour Arc in 02! During their very first meeting, they're already on very good, very casual terms - which you could definitely relate back to both of them being very open personalities who may or may not say what's on their mind very directly, sometimes before thinking beforehand. So besides them being paired up in the World Tour Arc in America, there are a few things that additionally set them up as being rather likely to interact with each other - one of them is the fact that they're both somewhat linked to America, with Mimi temporarily living there, both of them knowing American Chosen Children in Michael and Wallace and both of them being implied to be(come) good at English (in the future). So it's no surprise they even got their own audio drama together with Wallace! Another thing they have in common is their passion for food, as both of their future careers are linked to it, with Mimi becoming a TV chef and Daisuke starting his ramen cart career in, you guessed it, America. Unfortunately, while those things are not directly connected in the series, just like many others, I was delighted to see them being directly mirrored as enthusiastic goofballs in one of the Kizuna artworks, implying that they're having quite similar energy levels. So yes - while you may have to squint a little harder to see it, there are definitely things to work with here!
Whether I think why and how they’d work:
Regarding everything I have just pointed out before - they're more similar to each other than what meets the eye and I really believe that we're dealing with a (potentially) great relationship here. Both their arcs in the series are somewhat linked to becoming less "selfish" so to speak, in order to "unlock" their greatest strengths: Bringing out the best in others by being their most honest, supportive selves. It's baffling how easily you could mirror Daisuke trying to get through to Ken with how Mimi tries to get through to Sora in later iterations - because both of them are quite the "odd ones out" who are trying to be(come) true to their selves, their passions, the things and people they love, even if it means having people look at them funnily, make fun of them (or even gossip about them in the background). Whereas characters like Ken and Sora are struggling with their identity finding processes.
Daisuke and Mimi teaming up with each other could be a force to be reckoned with - and they could also be quite the power couple because of it. Even if one might argue that these two are having more of an "opposites attract" thing going on (if you take people like Ken for Daisuke or Sora/Koushirou for Mimi as potential partners), I think they could really enable and be good for each other on a romantic level as well, being all mutually supportive. And - if they opened up to each other about their doubts, the mutual healing opportunities could be great too, because we've seen both of them becoming soft (and insecure) as well, despite being headstrong. And they both need someone where they can just relax with and who could understand why they're insecure. I absolutely believe that they could be capable of that, because not everybody could actually deal with their intense energy levels.
I'd love for them to practice English together, they'd definitely text with each other in English and, by God, they would take great pride at being BETTER at it than others (namely Takeru and Koushirou, who can be assumed to become good at it too as time goes on, but Daisuke and Mimi would still thrive at correcting them). Plus - Daisuke trying out the most outlandish ramen dishes would be exactly what Mimi would love, adore and encourage, they would try stuff out together, they would travel to collect ingredients and recipes and... While I'm writing this, I may actually just have discovered one of my favourite unusual friendships/relationships in the Digimon Adventure universe, wow.
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship:
Whether they thrive as BFFs in all the aspects I have mentioned above or actually end up in a romantic relationship - I can see them be good for each other. I would really like for someone to write them as romantic partners, but I would generally enjoy both versions and hope the 02 movie might give us more implications of them still being in touch!

I did get tickets in Australia (not to the city I even tried for), but I'm posting about the fact that the majority of my mutuals did not - and those that did either got them from physically standing in line, or got them because some people were able to get through the queue multiple times and got tickets for them, meanwhile others - most I know, tbh - never got through at all.
Their ticket sales also absolutely did NOT go better than the US one, it was about 300x worse, and I think it's really important that everyone understands this! In the US, while we all know the fan presale was a fucking DISASTER, in the end, TN made it so that everyone who was deserving of fan presale on paper (although obviously, this is not the end-all be-all of who deserves to go) got ONE ticket. Think what you want about that sale, but they really did rally and do their absolute best, and I cannot name one person I know here in the US who is an active part of the fandom, had the financial means to attend a show in the first place, and did not go to a single one. While the situation sucked, due to how bad it sucked, the cancelling of the general sale was a great thing in the end, because it let them manually set fans up with tickets. Which is a huge win! The Australian sale was a disaster due to how the ticketing site is set up - if you didn't know, the way it worked was that there was no queue. The page refreshed every 10 seconds, and the first however many people to have the page refresh got to select tickets. Meaning if you signed on at 12:30 for a 12pm presale, you could get through literally 10 times (this happened. a lot.) while someone who had been waiting since 11:45 and had a slower internet connection could not get them once. That plus the fact that there was no actual fan pre-sale at all, made this experience completely unfair and god-awful, but the thing that makes it so fucking horrible is it went perfectly "according to plan" and there's not a ticket left in the stadium. So no one is stepping in to help - there will be no TN facilitating sales to real fans, there will be no verified sales happening the week of, there will be no last-minute drops. The only chance anyone in Aus has to get to a show is getting lucky and refreshing the resale page when one goes up in a few months, but imo resales will be pretty few and far between and will be snatched up INSTANTLY due to demand and how you can't mark up the ticket prices there (which is good, they'll all be face value, but they'll be gobbled up within 4 seconds of being made available meaning money can't EVEN buy your way in; it's once again just luck and insanely fast internet, which, spoiler alert, the people who couldn't get tix don't have and that's why they don't have them).

*Throws all of the 50 Qs into your ask box and twirls away*
50 Q’s For The Mun
1.) describe yourself through the eyes of a stranger? The perpetual foreigner. Or, if they do happen to be from another country, a like-minded friend. (People say I have an accent .  .  . Spoiler, I don’t think I do.) People have said that I look interesting, am quiet, awkward, scary, and that i know a lot. 2.) what is a quality you’d like to change about yourself? I feel like I’m very flighty and have a hard time following through with what I say- if I can at all. I’d like to change that someday. 3.) what is your worst potential fear for the future? I think .  .  . That I’ll be caught between mildly depressing comfort and the chance to actually grasp everything I want in life for a little risk and I’ll make the wrong choice. 4.) which television series do you use as a form of escapism? I use YouTube for that primarily. Um .  .  . Maybe The Addam’s Family. 5.) share a secret about yourself? I think in some ways, I actually live a double-life. So that’s a thing. 6.) if you could choose any place in the world to visit, where would it be? why? Oh, I’d like to go to Germany someday and visit some of the sites associated with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He was an interesting person. 7.) what advice would you give your childhood self? Um .  .  . honestly? Be more of a jerk. It more has to do with having a hard time setting boundaries and saying no to things. Or calling people out when they’re acting inappropriately. Not great life advice though? 8.) describe how you envision your ideal life partner? I suppose someone I can connect with on an intellectual and emotional level. Someone understanding and compassionate enough to help me pull through my own problems and a team player when we have joint problems we need to solve in life. 9.) what is your favorite environmental season? why? I like when it snows in winter, but otherwise probably fall xD I do not love being out in the super freezing temperatures with no snow. 10.) what’s one book you’d suggest every person should read? Mathematics for the Million - Lancelot Hogben (That’s the one that talks about how when America reached the trillion dollar debt, that if you lined it all up in twenty dollar bills, it’d basically stretch for sixty miles .  .  . Honesty there’s a lot of books on this list. It’s not just one.) 11.) what is one song that’s able to bring you to tears? 1,000 Light Years Away - Slime Rancher 12.) describe your best friend? Kind, compassionate, smart, doing no harm but taking no shit from people, and just... incredibly driven, even in hard times. 13.) what was the premise of your last dream? Well .  .  . I was at my old job, and for some reason we were running pads (for furniture), but for some reason, instead of pads it was coming out as pants and shirts, long and wide ways. And who do I see but an old coworker / friend? So he was stacking, and it’s supposed to be twenty-one to a bag and they’re coming off three at a time pretty fast. So, since he’s never done that before I was like, out of my way, I’ll handle this. Of course the line starts moving really fast, and with the way it’s coming, you can’t just push it back and throw it in a nice stack. So we’re bagging stuff anyway, just trying to keep it off the floor and he’s like, “Hey, how many is it supposed to be in a bag?” And I told him, “Twenty-one.” “Some of these bags don’t have twenty one in them.” We were doing shit like putting five things in a bag, forty in a bag, whatever! And I just told him like, “I don’t give a shit. We’re sending it anyway.” So quality control is out and we’re both basically like, cool. We’re talking and all, and he mentions that some other coworkers came back and are working in other departments now. One went to maintenance, the other somewhere else, and it kind of swung around to the fact that they were all wearing matching shirts that said, “I’m a thief.” on a nice, tattoo style gothic font on the back and that no one else was getting the joke! I was the only one that brought it up.  .  .  . 14.) what’s your favorite warm beverage? Crappy (very important) black tea with honey and milk. 15.) name one musical album that greatly impacted your life? why? Sandcastle Kingdoms by NateWantsToBattle / It summarizes some of my fears in life and like, pulling through for that one person. Because you don’t see it, but they believe in you, and sometimes that’s enough. 16.) what’s your favorite form of flattery? I enjoy flirting for the sake of it, does that count? Flattery tends to make me uncomfortable, so I’m not sure there’s such a thing as a “favorite.” 17.) what’s your favorite painting? and describe how it makes you feel? It’s a painting I got at the antique store. It’s a moon in a red forest background with silver mixed in. It makes me feel like there’s a sense of adventure and comfort just over there. The forest is in your own backyard. 18.) describe your personal style? Want to be a lot more alt leaning, but currently you’ll catch me in a lot of gray and layers. Kind of a grunge, t-shirt video game nerd, and alt mashup. 19.) what was the last concept that inspired you? @heartxshaped-bruises Casper. 20.) who was your very first artistic inspiration? My very first one? I liked rainbows and architectural drawings. Drew a lot of houses as a kid. 21.) how long have you used tumblr for? how has your style changed over the years? About seven years now. I guess I use the queue a lot more, prioritize life a little more, and tag a lot less on my main blog! xD 22.) what was your first cell phone? Um .  .  . Basically the same model I have now, only it let me use Google Music instead of YouTube music. Android piece of crap. I never wanted a phone. It was thrown at me one day and I couldn’t take it back -_- 23.) what is your favorite fruit flavor? Kind of want to say rambutan right now. 24.) whom would you resurrect from the afterlife? which 3 questions would you ask them? Storyboard artist Harold Michelson .  .  . I’m not sure what three questions I would ask specifically. Probably things like where how he learned to do the stuff, how you learn it, important tools, all that. 25.) if you could choose only one meal to eat for the remainder of your life, which would you choose? Lentils and rice. Because it’s yummy and you can add a lot of stuff with it! 26.) which of the 7 deadly sins do you struggle with the most? and which the least? Wrath and .  .  . I think envy. 27.) your latest obsession? and why? @heartxshaped-bruises Casper. He’s such an interesting character- Tragic, strong, kind with a bit of bite to him. I’m so totally in love! 28.) if you could domesticate any animal as your pet, which would you choose? Sharks. They’re nice. 29.) what’s your least favorite smell? Crack. Had a hard time thinking of it, but it’s crack. Gives me an instant headache that won’t go away for hours. 30.) favorite “mythological” creature? and why? Dragons. Any form of dragons, they’re strong and have good ideals. 31.) name a scene from a movie that makes you cringe? No one specific scene comes to mind, but in general, poor survival skills in movies! I can climb like a mountain goat real good! 34.) favorite concert/show you’ve attended? I went to an All Time Low concert in my hometown. Oh my god that thing was a riot! They almost got booed over nice-y small-talk XD 35.) what’s one thing you would tell to the last person who betrayed you? Honestly, I have no idea. There’s more to say, but at the same time, everything that needed to be said was said. 36.) your favorite mantra to live by? I’m not sure I live by it the way I want, but I like, “Don’t tread on me.” 37.) do you have any strange habits? Not sure if it’s really strange, but I always make sure people aren’t following me when I go anywhere. 38.) what’s your favorite white-noise to fall asleep to? Just random YouTube lets-plays. 39.) what is your favorite gemstone? why? This answer is sure to change, but I like tourmaline. 40.) how do you choose to cope when you’re upset? I like being alone in my room. No one to talk to on the phone or on social medias, maybe watch some YouTube or just sit in silence for awhile. 41.) what are you currently trying to accomplish? Trying to center who I am with who I want to be. 42.) what’s your favorite item you’ve purchased secondhand? A Franklin chair! It was half off at an estate sale! 43.) describe your personality is only 3 words? Stubborn, sarcastic, awkward 44.) how is your relationship with your parents? Fine. Maybe a little distant. 45.) an instrument you aspire to learn how to play? The bagpipes! Growing up, there was always this one neighbor that played Amazing Grace at certain times of the year. Sounded pretty good! Never-mind that bagpipes are loud and I live in an apartment.  .  .  . 46.) relate yourself to one movie character? 47.) least favorite music genre? why? Not exactly a singular genre- but pretentious music in general. Pop and Christian music in general come to mind here. I don’t mind the actual music per say, but people act all weird about some of it. 48.) which animal would you be the most terrified to encounter? Probably a bear. 49.) name a public figure you find to be overrated? why? Jim Carrey. God, fuck that man. A: Canadian (not a plus.) B: Everyone goes on and on about how nice he is and it’s just not believable! I don’t care what they say, I think he’s an asshole, and the only things he’s in that’s any good are when he’s playing assholes! 50.) what purpose do you get out of using tumblr? Ideal social media. Instagram is bullshit, more features than Discord, always hated Facebook and Twitter. Tik Tok is just propaganda .  .  . Ugh. Let’s end this here.

So this Island has now been without running water for over 24 hours on the hottest days so far this year.
Under the cut will be a rant about this, so scroll past or read if you want, but I’m just ranting about the above.
So, yeah, no water. You turn on the tap and nothing.
On days they’re telling people to keep hydrated the water company fucks up our water supply to the whole Island. And all they can say is ‘sorry, we’ll get some water stations set up’.
These water stations? They set up two yesterday. Two.
On an Island that has about 40,000 permanent residents, and the gods only know how many thousands of holiday makers and caravan owners.
And they set up two stations at the end of the Island that has a public transport connection consisting of a very hit and miss bus service which is in the process of having its service reduced?
They didn’t even bother setting one up in the main town until today.
And getting to those places is practically impossible now even if you do drive because the queues have caused the general gridlocks we’ve come to expect when one thing goes wrong on any of the main roads here. And then, with the price of fuel, you have to decide if it’s even worth it. Either way you’re fucked.
I know the government doesn’t give a shit about this Island, but this is taking the piss.
Apparently the police have even had to get involved because of fighting breaking out at some of the stations, which, to be fair with this Island, was always a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’.
Oh and you know what else they’ve done to really fuck over some of the people of this Island? They’ve cut the power to about half of the main town. So now those areas, which include a shit ton of houses containing vulnerable elderly and people and families on or below the poverty line, have the double fuck you of ‘oh, no water? shame, best stay in and try to keep cool, perhaps a fan could help? Oh, wait, no, can’t do that either I’m afraid, terribly sorry. Have you thought of going to the beach in the mid-day sun...wiith no drinking water to take...and you’ll have to take something for shade. A dip in the sea will be good for you! And don’t worry all that sewage we pumped in it a few months back has totally gone by now!’
This place is a fucking joke, and they’re still planning on building about 2,000 more houses, that I know of, and there’ll be more in the years to come.
People are struggling and government and private companies just shrug their shoulders.
At least my household is lucky enough to have a load of waterbutts in the garden mostly filled with rainwater for us to give the animals, and a friend off the Island who doesn’t have a water meter so is happy for us to fill up bottles at their place to bring home for us and vulnerable neighbours.
Oh yeah and that’s another thing. The vulnerable? Yeah, the water company will apparently deliver water to their homes. But you’ve got to ring the helpline first to be put on the list. A helpline that they clearly haven’t staffed sufficiently because you can’t get through to it. A cancer patient wouldn’t have had water if we hadn’t dropped some round, and they still can’t get through on the helpline. It’s been 12 hours.
It’s fucking ridiculous and we pay for this shit. We have to have water meters so they can charge you for what you use, and they go and do shit like this?
Everything is affected by this - health, hygiene, food and drink.
There are no cooling showers to try and escape the heat.
No damp compresses.
Flushing the toilet is out unless, like us, you’ve got a bucket of rainwater to spare, and even then you limit the flushes.
Handwashing is rationed, a wonderful thing in an area where Covid cases are rising again.
Food means trying to find things that don’t involve needing water.
And drinking? Well, that’s the delicate balance of drinking enough to not get heat stoke or dehydrated, but not so much that you’ll run out too soon.
Fuck the government.
Fuck the water companies.
Fuck end stage capitalism.

INDIE 5:0 - 5Q's WITH SHANE HEILMAN
Christian singer-songwriter Shane Heilman went from leading a high school to now leading The Psalms Project.
Tumblr media
Leaving his full time role to fully embrace music and coaching shows an unwavering dedication and love for music and the arts.
His recent recognition as the Gold Artist of the Year, achieved through the Modern Musician Gold Artist Program, highlights Shane's exceptional talent and tireless effort.
Over the span of 12 years, The Psalms Project has evolved from a modest church initiative to a global sensation, engaging over 85 musicians and earning acclaim for its innovative approach.
Shane's vision of letting the Word of God speak through music has struck a chord with audiences worldwide, offering them emotional, spiritual, and intellectual depth. Collaborating with renowned artists like Phil Keaggy and Jeff Deyo has further enriched the project's creative landscape.
With the release of "Volume 6: Psalms 47-55," The Psalms Project enters a new era, embracing a modern pop sound under the guidance of external producers.
We caught up with Shane to find out more about The Psalms Project, his passion for setting the entire Psalms to music, and what fans can look forward to next:
As an artist who infuses spiritual themes into your music, how do you navigate the balance between artistic expression and faith-based content?
I'm not sure a balance is necessary. I believe all art is "faith-based" in that we as artists express what we believe in. As R.C. Sproul once said, "Everyone is a theologian - the only question is whether you're a good one or a bad one." As someone who sings about the triune God of the Bible, who I believe is the one true God and eternal life itself, I believe I'm singing about the deepest and truest things in the universe, which should lead to better and more impactful art, not the other way around. I know that a lot of "faith-based" art focuses so heavily on the message that the art gets lost, and that is a mistake and a tragedy when it happens.
But that is not the way it should be, and is not the way it has been throughout history. Most of the most moving and epic art ever created was created by Christians as a response to the transcendent beauty and truth of Christianity, from the music of Bach to the painting of the Sistine Chapel.
Could you speak to the reception of The Psalms Project within the worship music community and its impact on listeners worldwide?
Even though a lot of our songs aren't conducive to congregational singing, many churches around the world use them for that purpose, and many others use our lyric videos in their worship services.
The impact of our music on listeners has been immense - I receive probably about a dozen or more new testimonials every day from listeners as to how the music has impacted them spiritually. People share stories of re-connecting with God, being delivered from anxiety and depression, and understanding the Bible better as a result of our songs. I've compiled hundreds of testimonials from all over the world from people profusely thanking us for making the music that we do!
How has your personal journey with faith and music influenced the direction of The Psalms Project over the years?
As I've studied the Psalms and put them to music, I've found my theology going in a more conservative/Reformed direction, with a deeper appreciation for how Christians have viewed the Psalms historically. This has led me to be more straightforward and literal with the wording of the Psalms I've put to music, with less commentary or summary. It's also led me to a deeper love for God's sovereignty, justice, and grace.
Tumblr media
What lessons have you learned from your experience of setting the Psalms to music, both artistically and spiritually?
I've learned that joy does not depend on circumstance - it depends on our trust in God and our obedience to Him. Over and over, we see the Psalmists in a horrible situation, but after processing it and praying through it, they are rejoicing in worship and filled with joy, even when their circumstance hasn't changed!
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for The Psalms Project, and how do you envision its future trajectory in the realm of worship music?
Overall, I see The Psalms Project going in a more congregational direction in the future, with a greater variety of song versions released that have an even greater impact on the trajectory of modern worship music, which I think will move in a more congregational and theologically-rich direction in the years to come.

What’s your favorite amusement park? Do waterparks count? If so, then the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
Do you know your social security number (or equivalent) off by heart? Yeah.
What would you take to a potluck dinner? So funny story: when I was a kid, we used to have “pot luck” day in elementary school as a way to encourage kids to bring their lunches to share or some crap, but they also had to have a hot lunch prepared for kids who couldn’t bring lunch from home. They would always serve these rib sandwiches during those days, so for the longest time, I thought that’s what “pot luck” was. One day my mom took me to this thing at the community center and she called it “pot luck” and when I got there I asked her where the rib sandwiches were and she was like, what the heck are you talking about? Hahahah.
Do you have any sisters? How is your relationship with them? I have an older sister. We have a decent relationship but it’s been kinda strained since she’s had children. I feel more like a babysitter or just an extra set of hands to her now. I’m never a priority. I’m not asking to always be one; I know her kids come first, but like, I am a part of her family and she just never makes me feel important to her, even when I do SO much for her and her kids.
When was the last time you changed your hair and what did you do to it? I had it dyed pink and got a layer look back in....February, I wanna say? I need to get it done again but I might hold out until right before Lollapalooza.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done? Uhhhhhh I don’t know, ask my husband what he considers romantic.
Do you listen to audiobooks? If so, what was the last one you listened to and did you like it? No. I’ve really thought about it, honestly, especially since I’ve been going to the gym more and more.
Describe yourself in five words. Funny, loyal, emotional, compassionate, clever.
What was your favorite class in high school? Social Sciences or Art classes.
When was the last time you did laundry? Yesterday.
Do you own a leather jacket? Do you wear it often? No.
Can you get Chinese food from a drive-thru in your town? Uhhhh not that I know of. There might be a Panda Express somewhere with a drive through, but I wouldn’t know because I rarely eat there.
If you could choose your middle name, what would you pick? I’ve always liked my middle name. I think it suites me well and I like the reason behind my parents choosing it. I’m named after the Czech tennis player Martina Navratilova. She was in the Wimbledon championship the year I was born and my dad thought it was so cool that a Czech player was so popular. His family is Czech and he wanted my name to have a connection to that. It was originally supposed to be my first name, but my mom liked Hannah better, so it became my middle name.
Would you rather see a sunrise or sunset? Sunset. Though growing up on an East-facing body of water as made me appreciate sunrises sometimes too.
Do you have any plans to buy any furniture in the near future? Yes. We need a new mattress so bad.
When you go to bed, do you go to sleep straight away? For the most part.
What do you do for a living? Provide electronic access to doors for people on a college campus.
Do you own a suitcase? When was the last time you used it? Where did you go? Yes. I took it to Boston this past February when I went to see Sarah. I actually got it in 2011 when I first flew out to see her, lol. I’ve been really wanting a new one because it’s such an ugly color and my cats scratched it up.
How many pets have you had in your life? 12, if I am remembering correctly.
Is there any soda in your fridge right now? There’s sparkling water, which is Mark’s.
Do you call it soda, pop, fizzy drink or something else entirely? Pop.
Do you need to get any groceries right now? What do you need? Uhhhhhhh I can’t think of anything right now. We will need stuff this weekend though.
If I was visiting your town, what would you take me to see and do? BRO there’s so much to do in Chicago but I really like architecture boat tours on the river and going up to the John Hancock. It such a great way to see the city from two different angles. Also, food. Lots and lots of food.
What was the last thing you spent money on? Gas.
What subscription services do you have? Pretty much all of them in one way or another.
Do you like olives? Most of them. I’m not a huge fan of Kalamata olives, though.
Would you rather be too warm or too cold? I mean, when you’re cold, you can always put layers on.
What’s your favorite name for a girl? I love Josephine/Josie. And Cecelia. And Alex. And Stella.
How do you make your coffee? With our fancy coffee maker, and then I add cream.
Do you know anyone who has a matching tattoo with someone? (including yourself)? I have four matching tattoos with people; a Bojack and a Brendon from Home Movies with my friend Sarah, birds in a tree with my sister, and heart-shaped sunglasses with my friend Ellen.
