You start with her makeup she wants a natural look but you know you’re giving her a smoky eye anyway once you put the finishing touches you turn her around she gasps “is that a good gasp or a bad one” she turns to you lips wobbling “I… I… I love it Jamie thank you her eyes well with tears you pull her in for a hug “you’re so lucky I used waterproof mascara don’t ruin my master piece” you giggle robin goes to finish up while you start on your own makeup. Smoky eye with earth tones & some shimmer to make it pop a movie star red lip & peach blush you pull out your dress add your ruby necklace and matching earrings & add your head piece now that it’s dry you & robin glued black and red stones on it & you slip on your favorite black heels & wait to put your mask on until after photos with everyone. You pull out your stash hiding a few prerolled joints for later & leaving one out for now “hey Buckley” you twist it in your fingers she smiles “don’t gotta tell me twice”.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Encouraging cheers and heels clacking the floor echoed throughout the dance studio. One might think it’s rehearsals for some upcoming events. Maybe. It’s more focused on the fun, actually. Surely, it can be a form of exercise to get the body moving, the art of some sort that involves getting creative with your movements.
It’s always the grace you bring no matter the genre of the dance. Something both you and Kalim shared. A passion and talent as people would say. No school to intervene nor priorities to think through. The Land of Hot Sands is home to those who want to have fun.
Kalim had his arms behind his back, leaning on them as he sat on the floor, laughing and talking to those he has become acquainted with. “y/n, it’s your turn!” came from someone within the studio. Red eyes came to look over at your crouched form, scanning over through the songs as you grin made its way to your face. “Got it!” you called back before calling over for your best friend.
Lips stretching in a blinding grin, Kalim cupped his palms around his mouth and screamed, “Don’t hold back, y/n!”
You smiled, winking at your boyfriend, and bounced on your feet before turning away from the others. Kalim was sat in front of the wide studio mirror, he can directly see you without any disturbances. You did say you were working on a certain choreography and how excited you were to show it to him. This was your chance to show off and for him to give his full support.
The studio slowly fell into hush whispers as the music began playing. No one had any idea besides you and your friend on what kind of dance you were dancing.
Lights out. Music blasting.
You confidently, effortlessly, and gracefully bent over, your hand tracing up your leg before facing everyone with a sultry walk. Swaying your hips to the beat as your hands would brush against your ass and hips. Kalim cheered along with the others, his eyes never left your form. Until you dropped to the floor in a smooth split, rolling over on your knees, and standing back up again.
Unbeknownst to him, he was slowly growing affected.
An acquaintance of Kalim began to give out some refreshments. Peach Sangria Popsicles. Poptails, to be exact. Fruits and alcohol in one dessert. Not often would someone get drunk over one popsicle. “Kalim, do you want one?”
“Sure!” agreed the called male as he was given a popsicle. Jamil, who was just a foot away from Kalim looked over. “Are you sure you can handle that?” he asked, not wanting to drag his drunk master back home or even risk getting in danger just because of him. Nodding, Kalim ate the dessert as he continued to watch you.
What he believes was already the chorus, he has grown silent. Eyes subconsciously going over your body as you crouched down, knees open before sliding to your sides, and laying on your chest. Your legs perching your ass up as you swayed it. Rolling over, your legs stretching towards your sides as you gracefully stood up.
“You better stop, oh you better stop..” came the lyrics.
Kalim shook his head and ate the whole popsicle with ease. Swallowing the hot alcohol that burned his throat. Has he forgotten he was a lightweight drinker? Just how much alcohol was in that popsicle? He shook his head, maybe it was just how strong the alcohol was. He’ll be fine.
He gazed at you once more. The song was nearly over yet everything seems so loud. Kalim blinked his eyes and gulped down his saliva. He feels warm. Only then was he snapped out of his senses when he heard clapping and compliments. He looked at you, you were panting and holding a big smile on your face. You really did enjoy your dance. He stood up, his own smile stretching towards his lips, and welcomed you in his arms.
“You did amazing!”
You laughed and kissed his cheek. “Thank you!”
Kalim completely ignored what he felt just a couple of seconds ago. Your friend has approached you with two poptails and spoke, “Here. To celebrate ourselves in completing that dance.” She winked as you rolled your eyes, giggling. You gave the other poptail to your boyfriend, he willingly took it, before eating it.
“You’re not against me dancing like that?” you suddenly asked as Kalim tilted his head. “Why would I be? It’s just dancing! Besides, I love it when everyone is cheering for you.” He smiled and pecked your lips. How lucky you are to have a supportive boyfriend.
Another poptail was consumed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Don’t worry, Jamil. I’ll look after him.”
You smiled at the younger male and closed the door once he left. You sighed and walked over to Kalim. “You’ve been quiet. Are you okay?” you asked, concerned, seeing him laying on his bed and an arm over his eyes. He didn’t respond. You noticed his adam’s apple bobbing up like he was continuously swallowing his saliva. He sucked on his bottom lip before releasing it from his teeth.
“Kalim...” you called and crawled over beside him. What has made your bubbly ray of sunshine turn quiet? Your hand reached to remove the arm from his eyes, repeating, “Kalim–”
In a blur, Kalim pushed your hand away from his arm and had you pinned under him. Both his knees beside your waist, his elbows beside your head, and his head buried on the crook of your neck. He was breathing heavily. You could feel his lips graze on your neck and how he would inhale your scent at every nuzzle.
You were speechless and unintentionally turned on.
“I took too much,” came his muffled grunt.
“Took too much of what?” you stuttered out and gulped. Your hand slowly going through his hair. “Those– y/n...” he cut himself off and lifted himself until his forehead was on yours. His eyes were closed and his eyebrows were scrunched down like he was trying to get rid of some tension.
“Kalim, tell me what’s wrong.” Tipsy? Headache?
Was it the poptails he ate?
“Your dance...” he began, momentarily pressing his lips on yours. He was being so bold, it surprised you as you felt butterflies in your stomach. “y/n, I feel hot.”
Fuck.
You bit your lower lip, your eyes moving to look at his pants. He was hard already. How sultry of your dance to seduce even the liveliest man in the land of hot sands. Your hand went up to his biceps, tracing through his shoulders before down to his chest and stomach. “I’ll help you...” you whispered.
His desperate lips slammed on yours, sloppily yet so hungry. The hand that was raked through his hair now gripped and tugged on his locks. Your other hand went up his shirt, gripping it from the inside, and pulled him closer. The sounds both your lips were producing, along with the heated pants, was making your pussy tingle.
“Are you sur– “
“Yes, Kalim. Yes,” you panted, feeling him drift his lips towards the sides of your neck. Your eyes closed and breathless moans left your lips. His teeth nipping on your skin and a hand pulling on the yoke of your shirt to reveal more of your shoulder and collarbone. He greedily sucked on the skin above your collarbone, sending shivers down your spine as you arched your neck more.
The Kalim Al Asim dominating you was something you never knew you needed.
Heaving, he sat up and swiftly remove his shirt with his headband falling off. You took this chance to remove yours, along with your sports bra. Lust and alcohol running up in both your veins. Both of you weren’t drunk, yet being intoxicated was gearing up your libido fast. He took the headband and both your wrists, quickly tying them together. You stared at your tied up wrists in surprise and back up at Kalim.
You have never felt so wet.
“Does it hurt? Too tight?” he asked as he got off you. Still speechless, you shook your head no. “Good,” he breathed out before pulling your shorts and underwear down. You squealed and looked away. “Kalim!” His fingers rubbed your throbbing clit, collecting your wetness as he slipped both fingers inside your tight walls.
No, it wasn’t your first time with Kalim. However, it was your first time seeing him this horny and dominant. He has never taken the lead this serious. You were absolutely down to submit to him either way.
Panting through gritted teeth, you arched your back as your head dug through the mattress. Your legs twitching and wanton moans fell through your lips like a waterfall. “Ngh–hah! Kalim...kal-ah!” you breathed and looked down. Watching his fingers easily slide in and out your walls. The sounds of your pussy squelching around his fingers as he pounded them into you.
“More...” you moaned and spread your legs wider. Kalim hummed and smiled, pulling his fingers out of you before looking at them. Strings of clear sticky liquid stretched in between his fingers as he licked them clean. “I can’t wait anymore.”
He hovered above you once more, pants down and your legs locking on the sides of his torso as he slipped his cock deep into you. Letting your pussy swallow him whole, tightening around him as he began to slam his hips on yours. Skin slapping immediately resonated around the room along with Kalim’s growing moans and your whines. So desperately wanting to touch him yet your hands stayed still on your stomach.
You arched your neck, capturing his lips into yours, messily letting his tongue wander in your mouth and muffling each other’s moans. “Mngh..” breathed Kalim, his thrusts speeding up as your moans grew louder. He pulled away, his eyebrows scrunched as he was consumed by pleasure. You lifted a leg up to his shoulder. “There!” you moaned loudly as his cock penetrated areas deeper in your cunt.
Heavy pants and moans growing higher in pitch, the bed squeaking under the both of you as his thrusts grew sloppy. “y/n–argh...” Kalim panted before biting his lower lip harshly. You gasped, looking down once more to see his cock pound into you so feverishly. You were growing close to cumming the more you watch your cunt suck his cock. “y/n..I’m cumming–” he breathed.
“Fuck!” you screamed, squirting out with your hips jolting in an uncontrollable spasm. Kalim’s breath halted as he pulled out of you, his cum littering your chest and stomach. Both of you silently panting before your beloved rolled over beside you, calming down from your high as your arousal slowly simmered down.
“I didn’t hurt you, did I?” Kalim suddenly mumbled worriedly as he looked at you. His hands reaching over to untie the cloth from around your wrists. You gave him a tired smile, responding, “You did the exact opposite, actually. You surprised me.”
Blinking, Kalim covered his face with the cloth and whined. “I shouldn’t eat those popsicles again!”
And he’s back to being the sunshine he is.

Mime, balloons, rodeo clown, flower, face paint, horn, Seltzer, tumbling
mime: what are your favorite colors?
balloons: do you like parties?
rodeo clown: do you have pets? (if so, talk about them! if not, do you want any?)
flower: what's one/some of your favorite scented products?
face paint: do you have any tattoos? (if yes, show/describe them! if no, do you want any?)
horn: what is your alarm in the morning?
seltzer: if you were a fruit flavor, what would you be?
tumbling: are you a clumsy person?
this is a relatively large post, so I'm gonna cut it to save people just scrolling lol
Cad Bane
surprisingly, this man has a lot of favorite colors. he loves warm tones the most. but his most favorite? a deep, deep wine red. sangria.
parties? absolutely not. way too many people and way too loud. unless the attention is on him, of course...
does todo count as a pet? because if so, yes he does. and no, he doesn't want any more little creatures crawling around his ship. (unless the creature is his s/o, of course.)
he doesn’t really have a favorite scent. but he does have a mint-scented candle in his ship’s bathroom. it’s never once been lit, though.
yes, he does have tattoos. or so it’s rumored...
cad bane does not need an alarm to wake up when he needs to. he wakes up at nearly the same time every morning. it is muscle memory by this point.
if this man was a flavor, i guarantee he would be lemon and kiwi. sour, but some people like that. and if you taste it long enough, it may even have some sweet undertones. <3
absolutely not. clumsiness in his field of work is detrimental.
Embo
deep, ocean blue. no real reason, he just finds the color to be calm. he likes blue eyes. if your eyes are this shade of blue, he will most certainly gaze very deeply into them.
he wouldn't go out of his way to attend parties, but if he's invited to one, he would be polite and visit for a bit. he isn't too fond of them, but enjoys being included.
of course! marrok is his most beloved companion. he isn't too loud, he's loyal, knows when embo needs him; he is easily embo's best friend. he even listens to his late night rambles when his thoughts become to much for him to bear on his own.
he really likes honey and coconut. he has a lot of coconut scented candles that he lights on special occasions.
he does have tattoos! though, i’m not sure what they would look like. any ideas?
marrok is his alarm. always wants to go to the bathroom and for a walk super early in the morning. but it’s alright, because embo is a morning person.
peach. do i have an explanation for this? no. <3
no. he was trained from a very young age to be adroit and graceful.
Bossk
he would have to think about this for quite some time. but once he makes up his mind, he will likely say that it is either brown or orange. he's indecisive.
who doesn't love a party? all the more reason to be loud and cause chaos! he's not exactly an extrovert, but he's not like embo and cad; he loves parties!
currently, he does not have a pet. but he has had a couple of hunting hounds in the past. though, his father didn't exactly allow him to care for them like they were pets. just another weapon in their arsenal for hunting. he did like them though, they were good boys.
subtle scents, anything too floral or strong just makes his head hurt. specifically he likes warm vanilla scents.
no he does not have any tattoos, but he'd like to. scales are difficult to tattoo, though. he’s not sure what kind of tattoo he would want, but he thinks he’d look cool with sleeves or a big back tattoo.
he doesn’t believe in alarms. he lets himself sleep as long as he needs. he’s partially nocturnal; and it’s not a trandoshan thing. it’s just a bossk thing.
bossk would for sure be citrus and spice.
not usually, he’s not a clumsy person. but sometimes...
Dengar
pink and purple! specifically, the pink that is verging on orange, just as the sun is setting. and royal purple, but kind of muted.
if he is invited to a party, you bet your ass he's gonna be there! even if you didn't invite him, expect him to be there. he's the life of the party, to him at least, and wants to talk to everyone there. he claims it's for "networking".
if plants count as pets, he has two. you’d have to ask him to show you, he has named them both.
dengar looooves the smell of dewy leaves and wood. it makes him feel inspired. whether that’s poetic inspiration or inspiration to cause havoc, it depends on his mood for the day.
nope, no tattoos on this guy. but he would be the most likely to get a really dumb one on a drunken whim.
he sleeps in, but he also goes to sleep early-ish. so he either wakes up at seven in the morning or two in the afternoon. there’s no in between.
dragonfruit. you can take from that what you will.
yes. yes, he is clumsy. but usually, it’s on purpose. he likes making people laugh. but he does know when he can’t be clumsy.
Sugi
green; she prefers vibrant shades like sap green over the darker sage green. however, she says that bossk's green looks like vomit.
she likes going to parties on occasion. they're like a little treat, she'll go after big jobs to celebrate. but if she knows the birthday of someone she cares about, fully expect her to go all out on it. latts will help her.
not any pets of her own, but she likes to think that marrok loves her about as much as he loves embo. close enough.
favorite scent? lavender and jasmine always calms her, and smells nice. but nothing quite like the scent of smoldering flames. she loves bonfires. maybe she’s an arsonist, but that’s a story for another day.
yep! they’re traditional iridonian zabrak tattoos.
she’s the one with a loud, obnoxious alarm clock.
if sugi were a fruit flavor, she would be warm, caramel apple.
she’s really only ever clumsy on off days. like, if she hasn’t slept much or is overly emotional.
Latts Razzi
orange!! she's super happy her hair is her favorite color, it just looks so nice with her skin and it goes great with so many outfits. blessed.
parties are okay, but she prefers higher class parties that are more like masquerades. she likes how easily she can sneak in and blend with the crowd.
she has a sizable aquarium with a bunch of beautiful, colorful fish. they all have names and she assures everyone that has seen them that the fishies have distinct personalities. they do, but it’s hard to see when you’d only known them for a few seconds.
extravagant perfumes that make her feel like the baddest bitch on the block. rose oil is also one of her favorites.
she’s never had any permanent tattoos but she loves painting her body and using body glitter. she always has a new look she wants to try out, so getting anything permanently tattooed would be something she would almost instantly regret.
her alarm clock is an elaborate, hand made carousel clock. it sings a pretty song.
mango is her fruit. sweet and juicy, full of flavor. and vibrant! who doesn’t like mango?
no, she’s nimble and moves like water.
Jango Fett
hm, he would say he doesn't have a favorite color but obviously, it's silver. just classy and he likes the way he looks in it.
it all depends on the party in question. does he know the person that invited him? is there a good reason he was invited to this party? why is there a party?  he would rather throw his own party, with people he trusts.
he has had a couple of pets, all strays he took in as a young boy. he loved them all fiercely.
his ship and his place smell like an ocean. like a beach.
yes! he has ta moko on his shoulders and back.
similar to cad; he wakes up just from muscle memory. but he also sets a standard alarm, nothing special. sometimes boba wakes up before him and pesters him awake. lovingly, of course.
this man is pomelo and you know it. maybe strawberry, too.
he’s not particularly clumsy, no.

“I’m Mayor Novak and I’d like to welcome you to the 32nd annual Spring Fling! Today we have twenty-one very charitable suitors who have willingly offered up their day for a wonderful cause. The Displaced Children’s Fund, to support supernatural children displaced by the cruelties of our world is a cause close to so many of us. All proceeds from today’s event will go to the fund. Now settle in and will begin the bidding momentarily….”
Below the cut you will find the 21 baskets that were submitted for the event. Bidding will take place until SUNDAY MAY 26th, at which point the bidding will close and then I will pair up the bids with basket. We will do my best to ensure everyone gets matched up with someone. If you would like a certain pairing based on plot reasons let me know and we can see what can be done to make it happen. If you have multiple characters I will do my best to ensure at least one of your characters gets paired for a basket.
How to bid: Comment on this post with your characters name and their three bids. If you bid you must place three bids to ensure we can make proper pairings. ex: Sophia Greyson bids on basket 1, 4, and 15. If you do not follow the bidding rules ie: you bid once or you send an ask, your bid will not be considered.
When will the picnics take place: Picnic dates, can take place any time after bidding concludes on Saturday (in game), this includes during the event or post event. These threads can carry on after the event ends but we encourage you to reach out to your pairing and plot.

Won’t Go Slowly // 20
One // Two  // Three // Four // Five // Six // Seven // Eight // Nine // Ten // Eleven // Twelve // Thirteen // Fourteen // Fifteen // Sixteen // Seventeen // Eighteen // Nineteen
One thing that you'd discovered about your pregnant self, was that your body really, really liked water.  Whether it was dipping your toes in the lake or relaxing in your tub, you were usually pretty content when part of your body was touching water.
Your phone vibrated, and you reached over to look at it.
Tyler: Whatcha doing?
You: Taking a bath.
You set your phone back down, grabbing your book, and getting comfortable once again.  You'd read about 5 more pages when you jumped at the sound of your front door opened, but you relaxed when you hear the unmistakable noise of dog's nails clicking along hardwood floor.
You tensed again, however, when the bathroom door opened, and Tyler and all three of his dogs just waltzed right in.
" What are you doing?" You exclaimed. You had a bath bomb in, not bubbles, so it wasn't even like there was anything covering you at all.
"Coming to hang out with you," he said.
" I'm in the bath," you said tersley.
"I know," he said, "We were out for a walk and they said they wanted to come see you, so I texted you to see if you were home."
"The dogs said they wanted to come see me?"
"Mhmm," Tyler crossed his arms, leaning back against your bathroom counter.  " And there's three of them and only one of me, who am I to argue?"
He was looking at you, and you slid down a little further into the tub, even as the dogs kept stocking their noses over the sides, "I'm not dressed."
"So? I've seen you naked before ," he said easily, an eyebrow raised like he didn't know what the big deal was.  And then he gasped dramatically, bending over to try and shield all the dogs' eyes with his hands.
"Yeah, they saw me naked way before you did," you said with a laugh.
"Unfair," Tyler said with a pout, "Also, they're way too young to see boobs."
You rolled your eyes, pointing to counter behind him, "Can you hand me that towel?"
"You're getting out?" He asked, "Why? You look comfy."
"Because you said you wanted to hang out."
"We can hang out in here," Tyler shrugged.
"You want to hang out in my bathroom while I'm taking a bath?"
"If you're comfy, sure," he said, taking in the way your legs were crossed and your body was curved in on itself.  "You know, I can get naked too if it makes you more comfortable."  He started miming like he was going to take his shirt off.
" No!" You said in alarm.  You were already feeling sick enough that your own naked body was disgusting you.  You didn't need anymore nudity.
Tyler laughed, sitting down on the bathmat you had under the sink and crossing his legs at the ankles, resting back on his hands, Marshall and Cash flopping down beside him.
"Can you close the door at least?" you asked, "You're letting all the steam out."
Tyler laid on his back so he could push the door shut with his hand, and then sat back up.  Gerry, however, still had his head leaning over the side of the tub, and began lapping at the water.
"Out," you said firmly, pushing at his chest, mainly because you weren't entirely sure what was in the bath bomb, and didn't really want him consuming that.
"Gerry, don't drink that," Tyler said, pulling at his collar.
"You should get them water."
"They're not thirsty," Tyler said, sitting back, "Why do you have stuff floating in the water?"
"It's seaweed," you said, laying back and letting your eyes close halfway.
"Seaweed?" Tyler questioned, and you didn't even have to look at him to know he was frowning in confusion.
"It was in this bath bomb with lavender and lemon that's supposed to be good for headaches."
"Oh," Tyler said, and then in a softer voice, "You have a headache?  Sorry, are we bugging you?"
You shook your head, "No, it's better now."  Even though having Tyler and three large dogs shoved in your bathroom with you was a bit much.
"Have you been drinking lots?" he asked, "Of water, not alcohol."
"Uh...I had lots of lemonade," you said, "But my sister sent me all these herbal iced teas that are flavoured like mojito and sangria, and there's a peach one too.  Actually, a pink lemonade one and there's something with pineapple that's really good, too.  And no caffeine or anything, so it's just like drinking water.  I really like them."
"Yeah, because I couldn't tell from the way you just went on about them," Tyler said sarcastically.
"Well, plain water makes me sick, and I have to drink something, so I was excited."
Tyler gave you an amused smile, "Did you eat anything today?"
"Potato chips."
"Real food," he huffed.
"Well, I made an acai bowl this morning that looked really good," you said, and Tyler looked hopeful, "and then I started eating it and I threw up."  His expression dropped.
"Do you want me to make you a grilled cheese?" he asked.
"Would you?" you asked hopefully.   It was kind of the only thing substantial that you could keep down.
"Yes," he said with a bit of a laugh, pushing himself up off the floor, opening the door and shutting it behind him, leaving you in the bath with three dogs staring at you.
"Tyler?" you called, and the door popped back open, and he stuck his head on, looking at you questioningly.  "Can you leave the door open a bit in case they want to get out?"
"Yeah, they're not going anywhere if you're here," he said, shutting the door behind him.
You fixed your hair, setting your head back and relaxing once more, and ignoring the crashing sounds that seemed to be coming from your kitchen.  After only a few minutes, Tyler stepped in carrying a bowl of water, setting it down in the corner.  Gerry sniffed it, but seemed unimpressed when he realized it wasn't food.  "Told you they weren't thirsty," he said, flashing you a smile.
"Don't burn my sandwich," you warned, taking a sip of your lemonade.
"Don't worry, I got it covered," he said, leaving the room again, even though you were pretty sure you heard him mumble a 'shit' from the other room.
"You're so lucky your dad doesn't have to cook your food," you said to the dogs.
"What was that?" Tyler said as the door swung open again, and he handed you a plate.
"Mmmnothing.   Thanks," you said, taking the plate, looking down at it, and laughing.  He'd cut the sandwich into four pieces, drawing smiley faces on each with mustard, and it looked like he tried to make ears or something with potato chips.  Well, except for one, "Why does this one have a sad face?"
"Because it makes me sad that you're putting mustard on grilled cheese," Tyler replied.
You laughed, picking up a piece and looking at the thick layer of cheese, "Oh my god, how much cheese did you put on this?"
"It's got calcium, it's good for you and baby," he said, adding firmly "Eat it."
You did as he said, enjoying it, and you saw him take his phone of his pocket out of the corner of your eye, but you thought nothing of it until he pointed in your direction, squinting.  "Did you just take a picture of me?!"
"Yeah," he said noncommittally, still looking at his phone.
"What the hell, Tyler!" you exclaimed.
"What?" He asked, "It's cute.  Don't you want this for memories?"
"What?" you barked.
"You, eating a grilled cheese sandwich with mustard, which is your number one pregnancy craving. You could put it in a baby book, or whatever. I'm sure your kid would love to see that one day."
"But I'm naked!" You said, "I really don't think my kid is going to want to see their mother naked after a certain point."
"Well," Tyler squinted, looking at the picture on his phone, "I bet you could put stickers over your nipples or something."
"Tyler," you said through pursed lips, "get rid of it."
"Uh..no," he said, stepping back and taking in your glare, leaning against the counter.  "You're just bitch and pregnant right now.  Once your mood swings the other way you'll see how adorable this is."
"Tyler..."
"Eat your grilled cheese."
You rolled your eyes but took a bite anyways, and then a deep breath.  "I don't really want a naked picture of me on your phone," you said, and he raised an eyebrow in question.  "I know you, and I do not want you to accidentally post a naked picture of me to your social media."
"Well, I'll have you know I have a whole folder of naked pictures on my phone and not once have I ever accidentally posted them," he said, fumbling with his phone, "But I wasn't gonna keep it anyways, I'm just gonna e-mail it to you."
He tapped at his phone a couple of times and then held it up to you to prove that it was, in fact, deleted.  But then your phone pinged  a familiar tone.  " You sent it to my work email?!" You had sudden visions of being called down to HR and having to explain why there was a picture of you eating grilled cheese naked in the tub in your inbox.
"Ooh!" Tyler said, "I should get one with the dogs in it."
"Tyler..." you warned, just imagining him laying on your bathroom floor and trying to get all the dogs and you arranged in a photo.  And you really just wanted to enjoy your snack.
" I'm sure there will be other opportunities..." he said, trailing off and looking down at the middle of the tub, right below where you were holding the plate.
You glanced upwards, shooting daggers into the side of his head.  "Can you...not stare?"
His head shot back towards yours like he just remembered you were attached to the body   "I was looking at your belly, you perv," he said, going back to sit down on the bath mat.
" Why? There's nothing there."
"Yeah, there is," he replied confidentially, laying down and rubbing Cash behind the ears.
" It's just because you know I'm pregnant," you said.
"Do you pants fit?" He challenged.
"Well, I mean, I haven't really been wearing pants lately..." You said, you'd been sticking mostly to dresses.  But all your other clothes seemed to fit the same.
"See?" Tyler said.
"No, it's probably just because I'm eating, or the water" you said, " I'm barely even eight weeks pregnant."
He shook his head adamantly.  "It's different.  Trust me," he said, putting an end to he conversation, "when do you think you got pregnant, anyways?"
"Uh...about eight weeks ago?"
Tyler rolled his eyes at you.  "I meant what time."
"I don't know."
"Do you think it was that time at Top Golf?" he asked.
"I don't know, Tyler," you said, "There were a lot of times."
"Yeah there were," he said cockily, looking at you like he wanted you to give him a high five, which was just not going to happen, "I was just thinking, how cool would it be if it happened at Top Golf and your kid became an amazing golfer."
You laughed, partly in disbelief and partly in amusement.  "I don't think it works like that."
"You don't know that," he said, glancing at you like he was a little bit annoyed that you would even think that,  "They have those little plastic golf clubs for kids, right?"
He was pulling out his phone, and you could only assume that he was now online shopping.
"Tyler," you laughed, "the baby is the size of a blob, remember? The child's not even going to be able to walk right away, either."
"I know," he responded, "But you could sit the baby somewhere and he or she could look at them and get inspired."
"Tyler," you laughed.
"What?" he asked, "I'm not saying force the kid.  Just...it'd be so cute."
"And here I thought it'd be hockey sticks you buy first."
"Damnit," Tyler mumbled, and you looked at him in question.  "We should have tried to conceive the kid in an ice rink.  Why didn't I think of that?"
You looked at him in disbelief.
"I'm kidding, babe, your kid's gonna be awesome no matter what," he said, "But it would be super cute.  Admit it."
**
"Tyler, we have to leave in five minutes," you yelled.  It was actually 10 minutes, but you were giving him a little wiggle room.  You were supposed to be driving him to the airport, and you expected him to actually be ready to go by the time you arrived, but apparently he still had a few 'last minute things' to do.  The plan was to take his car, only because there was no way the three dogs and all of his stuff would fit in yours.  Actually, you should probably check to make sure that you had enough room to fit a car seat and a stroller sometime over the next 7 months or so.  Especially if it was during the summer and you were trying to take the baby and the dogs somewhere.
"I just have to throw a few more things in the car," Tyler said, looking at where you were laying on his bed, curled up around the dogs.
"What do you need me to get?" you asked, starting to sit up, but Tyler held up his hand.
"Stay there, you're not carrying anything.  Other than that baby inside you,"  he laughed at his own joke, leaving the room, and you laid back down, setting aside your phone because you didn't feel like watching the clock anymore.  Your hands ran over the warm, furry bodies that were surrounding you, gentle caring eyes glancing at you.
Tears sprung to your eyes, because that's what it was like now that you were pregnant.  Your emotions were always right there, on the surface, threatening to spill over at any moment.  "I'm gonna miss you guys," you said, your voice wavering, burying your wet face in fur.
"Oh, babe, don't cry," Tyler said, and you looked up to see that he was standing in the doorway.
"I'm not crying," you said with a sniff.
"No?" Tyler quirked his lips, coming over to lay down beside you, running a finger over your cheek, "What's this then?"
"Tyler..."
"It's gonna be okay, babes," Tyler said in a light voice, and then patted the dogs, "C'mon, guys, get her.  Give her kisses. Give her love."
And then, of course, you were swarmed by three dogs, standing above you all trying to lick the salty tears of your face.  You were laughing, the mattress dipping as the dogs walked around you, until Tyler's hand hovered above your belly as if to protect it from being stepped on by an errant paw.  And then you were crying all over again.
He looked at you, his expression softening, placing a kiss on the swell of your cheek, right were you supposed your tears were collecting.  "We've gotta go," he said, but he didn't make any attempt to move, his hand coming up to swipe his thumb gently across your cheek.  "You want one of them to stay with you?"
"Tyler, you can't do that..."
"Yeah, I can," he said, "Which one do you want?"
"No, you can't separate them from each other," you said, sniffling because that idea was suddenly so sad to you, "They're brothers."
"Well, I'm not leaving them all with you," he said with a bit of a laugh, "Sorry. But you can choose what one you want. And we can trade at Christmas, or whatever."
"No, you can't separate them," you cried, "And they need to be with their Dad."
"Okay, okay," Tyler said, gently, like he overly cautious of saying the wrong thing.  "I'll take them all.  But we gotta go.  I'm sorry."
You pushed yourself up off the bed, and Tyler disappeared into the bathroom, coming back with a box of Kleenex, pressing it into your hands.  "You better take this with you," he said, and you laughed.  You always got a little misty eyed when he had to leave at the end of the summer, but it had never been this bad.  And you hadn't even left the house yet.
"I tried to look up ways to get pregnant women to stop crying," he said, as you walked out to the car, "But all it did was list all the different things that made pregnant women cry.  There was a lot.  Like hundreds.  Probably thousands.  I'm kind of scared."
"Tyler," you scolded.
"What?" he asked, "I don't like it when you cry."
You got into the passenger seat while he loaded the dogs into the car, but he opened your door a moment later.  "He wants to ride with you," Tyler said, and Gerry jumped in, sitting down on the floor and settling his head in your lap while Tyler walked around to the driver's side.
"You ready, mama?"  he asked, as he put his seatbelt on and started the car.
"Don't call me 'mama'," you said, taking a tissue from the box you had sitting in your lap and wiping at your eyes.
"You don't like it?" he asked, with a frown, backing out of the driveway.
"No, it's gonna make me cry more," you said, and he laughed, settling his hand on your knee.
"I'll see you in a few weeks, you know, Y/N," Tyler said.  They had a game in Toronto in October, so it really wouldn't be that long, "And I'm still going to talk to you all the time."
"I know," you said, running your hands over Gerry's ears.
"Are you even gonna miss me or are you just upset the dogs are leaving?" he asked with a laugh, "'Cause I was planning missing the hell out of you, but if you're only gonna miss the dogs, I'm not going to miss  you."
You looked at him, your cheeks twitching with emotion, fresh tears running down your face, "Of course I'm going to miss you."
"Awe, babes," Tyler said softly, rubbing his thumb where it laid over your knee.  "It's going to be okay.  You know what you can do anytime you miss me?"
"Hmm?"
"Just watch me on T.V.  Or, if I'm not on T.V., there's always YouTube," he laughed loudly and so did you, through your tears.
"Seriously though," he said, glancing at you, "I'm always just a phone call away.  You know that."
You nodded, scrunching the used tissue in your hands.  It was going to be completely disintegrated by the time you opened your fist.  Tyler kept glancing at you as he drove.
"Are you actually this sad, or is this hormones?"
"I think it's a bad combination," you sniffed.
"Like grilled cheese and mustard," he quipped.
You laughed, staying quiet until you arrived at the airport, and Tyler parked, looking over at you.  "I'm going to go check my bags.  You say goodbye to the dogs, okay?"
You nodded, climbing into the backseat, Gerry following you, and let yourself be surrounding by them, making sure to place a kiss on the top of each of their heads.  You were thankful that it took Tyler awhile, eventually putting them on their leashes and taking them to the grass next to the parking lot so they could sniff around a little bit.  Tyler was smiling when he came back, walking towards you with hands stuck in his pockets.  "Did you guys tell Y/N you love her?" he asked.
"They did," you said, laughing under your breath, handing the leashes over, because it occurred to you that it was probably time for them to get going.  "Ty-" you started, taking a step towards him, but he held up his hand.
"Let me take them in, and then I'll come back to say goodbye to you, 'k?"
"Okay," you said, petting them all once more, trying to keep it together as Tyler walked away with them, which was incredibly difficult, especially because they all kept looking back at you, like they didn't understand why you weren't coming.
You paced, walking around and rubbing your hands up and down your thighs, but your eyes were misty when Tyler started walking back towards you.
"C'mere," he said, opening his arms wide, and enveloping you in a hug.  Neither of you said anything, and he just held you, one hand rubbing up and down your back soothingly, the other braced around the back of his head, holding you to his chest.  "I love you lots, 'k?" he said against your hair after what felt like a couple of minutes."
"I love you, too," you mumbled against his chest.
He pulled back slowly, looking you in the eyes.  "You take good care of that baby.  And yourself, alright?"
You nodded, "I'll take good care of the blob."
Tyler smiled, "You're never going to let me live that down, are you?"
"Never," you said, even through your tears.
He laughed under his breath, his hands running up and down your sides.  "You gonna be alright?"
"Yeah," you confirmed.
"I want you to go home and make yourself a grilled cheese sandwich.  You'll feel better," you laughed, even as he leaned forward, pressing a kiss to your forehead, "I'll text you when we get there, okay?"
You nodded, his hand settled on your hips as you looked at each other, both of you full well knowing that the inevitable had to happen.  "I'll see you soon," he said, kissing you on your forehead once both, and then pressing the keys into your palm, his fingertips slowly pulling away. He gave you one last smile, and then he was gone.
You went around to the driver's side, not daring to watch him walk away, but you glanced in the direction of the door once you buckled your seatbelt, and he was standing there, exaggeratedly blowing you a kiss and then making a symbol of a heart with his hands, and you laughed, waving goodbye to him and then shooing him inside before he missed his flight.

i’ve compiled some fun summer recipes for you guys. summer is a great time to experiment with cooking and baking and stuff so here you go. some of these are my own recipes that i’ve developed, others were found online and i just really like them. **sorry the image in the graphic is deceptively healthy... i couldn’t find anything else on canva**
drinks:
1. hibiscus tea: super fun and tropical! i make mine with these ingredients, the ratios are all to taste. the tea is great both iced and hot, tho this is generally better iced
- hibiscus tea (you should be able to find teabags at your local grocery)
- sugar (just a touch)
- lemon juice (i love sour things)
- tropical juice blend (just a little tiny bit for extra tropical flair)
2. fake sangria: so i’m not quite legal yet here in the states (got 6 months left) but i love sangria so... i’ve just basically subbed wine with hibiscus tea. i also think it’s fun to add a little carbonation! (again i just play the ratios by ear)
- hibiscus tea
- juice of choice (or multiple)
- sliced/diced fruit (i wouldn’t recommend leaving them in there too, too long. especially ripe citrus...)
- seltzer water
3. peach - jasmine tea: i really like tea ok. best served iced
- jasmine tea
- a baby splash of peach juice for sweetness and a touch of flavor. obviously use more if you’re so inclined.
4. milk tea: boba is super popular now and the “standard” stuff is just made with a milk tea base which is easy to make at home. you could also make your own boba but i’m lazy. can be served hot or iced
- tea of choice. i generally use english breakfast.
- milk.
- sugar. (you could use honey, but i personally prefer the taste of sugar in this context)
**** a note on tea: don’t let it steep too long! i’d say 5 min max. i used to let my tea steep literally forever, but that can introduce bitterness. especially in hibiscus and jasmine teas ****
food: predominantly sweet, baked things bc i don’t really actually cook too often...
snickerdoodles: recipe adapted from here. i cut the butter and sugar a little and thought they were still delicious. i’ll list the changes i made below. for everything else i just followed the recipe linked.
- about 2/3 cups butter, softened (i had just over 1 stick)
- a little over 1 cup sugar
pancakes: a little back story on this. i did science olympiad for many, many years and once in middle school, the food science event was on pancakes. i probably made hundreds of pancakes to perfect this recipe. literally we were judged on how round our pancakes were and if they had a density of 0.7 g/cm3.
here’s the recipe.
double chocolate cookies + marshmallows: amazing straight out of the oven. you might want to give a quick toast before eating.  recipe. (scroll down)
chocolate cake: spent like 5 hours making this cake for my brother’s birthday (it shouldn’t take you that long, i was kinda extra). it was worth it.  recipe. (scroll down)
hope you like these! xoxo,m (lmk if you want some healthy food ideas next time lol)

How to make Sangria for the Summer Heat
Tumblr media
Red wine sangria is one of the most famous Spanish drinks. Spaniards don’t drink it all the time, though: it’s a summer drink only. Although not regularly ordered at restaurants, Sangrias are infamous at house parties. Today we are sharing with you how to make sangria the way Spaniards do.
1. Choose your wine
Did you know the word “sangria” comes from “sangre” (blood)? That’s because of the red color of the drink, and that’s why the authentic sangria recipe is made with red wine. You don’t need to spend a lot of money in an expensive aged wine either (after all, you are going to mix it with sugar and fruit…), just choose a decent young red wine that you like (one bottle serves 4-5 people). For a more chic sangria, you can substitute the red wine for champagne and make a white sangria – the same quality rules apply.
2. Get your fruit ready
There are many opinions on what fruit to use in your sangria, but if there is one fruit that everyone agrees that should be part of any authentic Spanish sangria recipe this is peach (fresh, not canned!). Some people like it diced, while others prefer it in slices: it doesn’t really matter much: it’s all about choosing between aesthetics or practicality. The next important fruits you need are oranges and lemon (one of each: again, while some prefer to cut it in sections, I prefer it in round slices because it’s more pretty. Just don’t add it to the mix yet: wait until it’s time to serve, otherwise, the white part of the grind might release a bitter taste into the wine and you don’t want that. The rest of the fruit is a personal choice: some will add one apple, other some pineapple (again, it should be fresh, not canned), a couple of bananas (not too ripe – I think this is quite a bold choice for a sangria, though), some strawberries for a fancier touch the sweeter the better… Spaniards usually choose summer fruit that isn’t too watery (a juicy pear, for instance, might water your sangria so rule it out). Festive Holiday Sangria
Festive and robust, this rum infused holiday sangria recipe speaks to our holiday cheer.
What is Sangria?
Sangria is a mixed alcoholic drink from Spain and Portugal. Red sangria is made with red wine, and white sangria with white wine.
What goes into a Sangria?
Red or white wine depending on which type you are making
Fruit juice, typically an orange juice
Sweeteners such as simple syrup or sugar (I used cinnamon simple sugar. See recipe below)
Fruit, such as sliced oranges, limes, or lemons. Sliced pears, peaches, nectarines, or apples. I also put cherries, blueberries, strawberries, and grapes.
Flavored liqueurs, rum, brandy, or cognac.
What type of wine should I use in a Sangria?
The wine you use when making a Sangria will make or break the overall taste no matter what you put in it afterwards. If you choose a bitter cheap wine, you will spend all day trying to fix the overall flavor.
A wine from the Rioja region of Spain is known for its structure and tannins, similar to Cabernet Sauvignon, but it also has a fruity character. Rioja is blended primarily from the Tempranillo grape. A light, fruity Rioja such as a Crinanza Rioja is a great choice for sangria recipes. This type of wine makes it perfect for drinkers who love Cabernet but are also looking for the dominant cherry flavor that’s often present in wines made from Pinot Noir.
Whether you are making a white or red sangria, a good Spanish wine is preferable.
"sangria is my favorite fruit"  -- Anonymous
Sangria’s use fragrant spices such as cinnamon, allspice, anise, cloves, and citrus are an easy prep and goes a long way in welcoming guests into your home. The visuals for a beautiful sangria for the holidays are festive.
Party Tip:
When serving sangria for a crowd, i prefer a beautiful punch bowl. It makes for a great presentation with lovely fruit and cranberries floating on top of the sangria. Best of all, guests can serve themselves. Place a laddle into the sangra with cups near by so that they can just serve themselves as much as they want.
*** Big tip: If you have children at your party, be sure the punch is labeled as an alcohol beverage and be sure to tell the parents of the children as well as the children themselves that the punch is not for children’s consumption.
I also serve a delicious alternative non-alcoholic punch for the children that is located elsewhere and far away from the alcoholic punch, just for the children. By placing the non-alcoholic punch far away from the alcohol, your risk of the child consuming alcohol is much less.
**** I’ve seen children mistakenly consume spiked punch at other people’s homes when parents were not paying attention to what children are doing. Open houses and holiday parties are so much fun, but it is our responsibility to keep everyone safe.
Basic Recipe for Festive Holiday Sangria:
Ingredients
1 bottle (750ml) red wine - Prefer a good Spanish red wine
1 cup (237ml) orange juice
1/2 cup (118ml) rum, you can use either light or dark rum
3 oz (89ml) simple syrup
2 whole sticks cinnamon
1 orange, cut in rounds
1 lime, cut in rounds
1 lemon, cut in rounds
1 pear, seeded and thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups either sparkling soda or flavored lemon-lime soda
1/2 cup of whole cranberries - washed
**I used a homemade cinnamon simple sugar recipe by The Spruce Eats and added some 2 cloves and 1 star anise to the recipe. You don’t have to, but it does make for a deeper richer flavorful sangria.
Link to the cinnamon simple sugar recipe
How to prepare Sangria:
Mix together all ingredients in a pitcher or punch bowl. Taste to see if it is sweet enough for you. If not, just add a bit more simple syrup or real maple syrup. At times I do like to add just a little maple syrup since it gives the sangria a bit more depth of flavor.
Let the sangria stand from 1 hour to overnight for all the favors to incorporate. I let stand overnight most of the time. Remove whole cinnamon sticks. Add ice 1/2 hour before serving.
If serving in individual glasses, garnish with whole cranberries and sprigs of rosemary for a more festive look and feel.
The thing is…when it comes to festive drinks, sangria is a delicious addition to any gathering. The flavors and aromas such as wonderful cinnamon and other earthy spices make for the perfect flavorful beverage for the holidays.

We Asked 11 Beer Pros: What’s the Best New Beer You’ve Had This Summer?
Tumblr media
In case you missed it, summer 2020 came in the middle of a global pandemic. In a period that has required following safety measures, including mask wearing and social distancing, many of the season’s pastimes that so often accompany beer — barbecues, beach days, ballgames — have looked different or been abandoned altogether.
The custom of beating the summer heat with a refreshing drink, too, has taken on unconventional forms amid the coronavirus pandemic, as most states have temporarily loosened laws around takeout and delivery alcohol, a small lifeline for a handicapped food-and-beverage industry struggling to survive.
Craft brewers, for instance, have been battered by evaporated on-premises sales at taprooms, bars, and restaurants. In a survey of its members conducted by the Brewers Association in April, the majority did not believe they could stay in business for three months if current conditions continued. And, as a cost-cutting measure, data shows innovation has slowed: Almost half as many new beer releases, themselves an earmark of small, independent American breweries, are being registered compared to the same period last year due to Covid-19.
Still, producers are pushing through the crisis — for one, they’re adopting creative ways of packaging and selling in a constantly changing regulatory landscape. And, as we share below, many brewers are still releasing new offerings, helping beer lovers salvage the sublime joy of summer imbibing.
So, with this far-from-normal summer nearing its end, we asked brewers across the country to tell us about the beers that impressed them the most so far.
“Let’s be honest: Summers in Phoenix are BRUTALLY hot. Like, working the deep fryer inside of a food truck parked at the gates of Hell hot. It’s a type of heat that’s so intense, only those who experience it know how truly awful it is — and why liquid solace is needed. For me this summer it came from Humble Seas’ West Coast-leaning pilsner, Beverly Krills 90210. Dry-hopped with a nice blend of American and noble varieties, it’s a great example of what a contemporary American pilsner can be: Dry, sessionable, with subtle fruity hop aromatics, and the perfect amount of balanced maltiness. The head retention absolutely begs for a slow pour so you can build those nice frothy, aromatic peaks, almost like Arizona’s mountainous landscape.” — Kyle Kreig, Taproom Manager, Wren House Brewing Co., Phoenix
“With everything that’s been going on, it’s been incredibly important to find joy in the little things. I definitely found a bit of joy this summer in Tripping Animals’ joint can release, Am I A Cat? and Am I A Dog? It’s ‘90s cartoon nostalgia meets experimental beer cuvée, where both are designed to stand alone and also be mixed. Both titles had the same sour base and coconut additions. But the Cat was conditioned on blueberry and pomegranate, and the Dog pineapple and key lime. Once you combined them, it was like a perfectly tart key lime pie with a berry reduction on top! Changing the ratios of the cuvée made each drink exciting, playful, and unique. I had a lot of fun drinking something so interactive and flavorful!” — Susie Bennett, Quality Assurance Analyst, Motorworks Brewing, Bradenton, Fla.
“To support the Black Lives Matter movement, several brewers have stepped up and launched initiatives to speak about and work toward combating the racial injustice we face. Weathered Souls’ Black Is Beautiful ignited this large-scale industry support and it has been astronomical, while more recent efforts such as the ongoing, open-source project BREATHING : CONVERSATIONS from Finback in New York will go deeper into the route of problems, and further push necessary change. Knowing the people at Finback, it isn’t a brewery to make a beer to appease BIPOC and not seem racist, or to follow ‘woke’ trends, but to effectively bring forward conversations and ideas that aren’t comfortable, but need to be had.” — James Higgs, Brand Ambassador, Forager Brewery, Rochester, Minn.
“Saaz Off Shotgun, a Czech-style pilsner from Radicle Effect Brewerks, was my go-to summer beer. Radicle is a nanobrewery, so it doesn’t put out too many lagers. But luckily for some small brewers, Covid-19 allowed them to have extra time to lager. Saaz Off was released right when patios started to open back up here, and it was the perfect way to bring some normalcy back. Crispy, and all of the character from the Saaz hops shine.” — Glenn Cole, Brand Ambassador, Midwest Ale Works, East Moline, Ill.
“Weathered Souls’ Black Is Beautiful initiative unified over 1,000 breweries this summer to take a stance and bring awareness to the systemic issues that challenge communities of color. This led to an incredible lineup of varying stout recipes, like ours, in tandem with Trillium Brewing, aged on a bed of Papua New Guinea vanilla beans. Aside from our deliciousness, one Black Is Beautiful stout that really stood out was from two other Massachusetts beer makers, Vitamin Sea and Brockton. They put an extra twist on their version and went with a blackberry sour that had a complex yet subtle layering of marshmallow and chocolate whirled into a deep dark color bursting with blackberry flavor. Well balanced and absolutely a memorable beer.” — Ray Berry, Founder and President, White Lion Brewing, Springfield, Mass.
“Key Brewing’s Semi Charmed takes me back to the time when pale ales and Northwest hops ruled the beer land. Light amber in color, with distinct maltiness and assertive bitterness presented harmoniously. The Baltimore tie-in to ‘Charm City’ also tells a great story.” — Rob Day, Senior Director of Marketing, Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers and Springdale Beer Co., Framingham, Mass.
“At the start of summer, my girlfriend and I drove up from Texas to a cabin nestled on a lake in the Adirondacks. On the way, we spent the night at my old stomping grounds, in northern Virginia, to stay with a friend. To my delight, she had a case of Aslin beers waiting for me. Aslin’s That’s Facts, a pilsner dry-hopped with Waimea and Motueka hops, became my go-to adventure beer. Though everything we drank during that time tasted better thanks to the setting and company, That’s Facts was the one I kept reaching for when hiking or kayaking, or when sunset was involved. And just like our time quarantining on the lake, my 4-pack of this crispy pilsner was thoroughly enjoyed, finished way too soon, and left me craving more. And that’s facts.” — Eli Traks, Photography and Social Media Manager, Turning Point Beer, Bedford, Tex.
“My pick is the Big Ditch and Ommegang collaboration, Superior Helles. Of course, any well-crafted helles is a sublime summer crusher, but these two Upstate New York brewers took it to the next level with the deft addition of Hallertau Blanc and Bavaria Mandarina hops, which together layer a delicate aroma of noble hops and tropical fruit atop a sound, cracker-y malt base which adds a soft sweetness. The beer is a perfect accompaniment to a sweltering day, yet also holds its own in a food-pairing situation with lighter summer fare such as a salad or pasta primavera. Prost!” — Ethan Cox, Founder, Community Beer Works, Buffalo, N.Y.
“As a brewer who likes to spend their spare time hiking and camping, I like to reach for beers that I can pack easily and are the ones I’ll wanna drink when I get to a lake or summit. That beer for me this summer is Kolsch 4.5, by Logsdon Farmhouse Ales. I’ve had an admiration for Logsdon since getting into craft beer, with its ability to produce beautiful saisons and mixed-culture beers. The Washington [State] brewery moved facilities and has expanded to brewing styles like IPAs and lagers. Kolsch 4.5 is a perfect example of the team’s rounded ability to make a delicate, crisp, and refreshing German-style ale that can be taken with you on any adventure. And yes, it’s really 4.5 percent ABV. And no, it doesn’t come with Zig-Zags.” — Anne Aviles, Brewer, Breakside Brewery, Portland, Ore.
“My pick is from Nashville’s one-man operation, Barrique Brewing and Blending. Joel Stickrod’s BBA [bourbon-barrel aged] Freeman Red is a traditional Flanders red initially aged on red muscadine grapes, then finished for an additional six months in a Wild Turkey barrel. The extended bourbon-barrel-aging adds some wonderful vanilla, char, and whiskey character to a style that is oft overstated and can tiptoe the line of aggression.” — Dylan Field, Operations, Southern Grist Brewing Company, Nashville
“White Sangria Hut, from Half Acre’s Wyld program. This open-fermented, oak-aged saison was racked onto Michigan peaches and Pinot Gris must, and then introduced to Cara Cara orange peels. It offers tons of bright, exotic, tropical flavors — kiwi, peach, coconut, citrus — and truly makes you feel like you are sitting beachside somewhere on the coast of Spain. It has definitely provided the greatest degree of escape from the confines of summer quarantine in Chicago. It’s hard to tell while sipping, but this beer also packs a hefty 10 percent ABV. And though that is typically a bit higher alcohol than I like in my day-to-day beer, it’s exactly what I want when I‘m pretending to lounge around on a faraway beach.” — Averie Swanson, Founder and Brewer, Keeping Together, Chicago
