The character, Herobrine, is also confirmed to not be real by Notch (the creator of Minecraft) himself, he doesn't have a dead brother but he does have a half-brother he doesn't know yet (i got shit memory so don't trust me, make your own research ALWAYS)

The whole "Removed Herobrine" thing is a joke, and the one time that didn't appear in a Minecraft update log, people went catshit bananas thinking he does exist.
