In your ask about how the nameless guy could be the nameless woman, you said that you thought the statute of secrecy is much younger than what is said in the series. Please elaborate how you know (not that I disagree with you. the wizards are s*** at keeping themselves a secret)
So, as I’ve discussed before, one has to take anything about history in the wizarding world with a large grain of salt. Specifically, I doubt the wizarding world approaches the discipline of history the way we do, history doesn’t seem to be much of an academic field (the wizarding world seems to only have two historians, one of which is dead), and there seems to be a strong incentive and tradition of propaganda.
So, that alone makes me suspicious of anything we learn relating to The Founders, Merlin, and even the Statute of Secrecy.
And now, JKR’s wiki.
JKR places the statute in the midst of the witch burnings (late 17th century) as basically an emergency action on the part of the wizarding community. Who had been steadily ostracized for about a century.
The children were particularly vulnerable and eventually they put their feet down, across the entire world (Tibet is somehow included in this), and agreed to make all the muggles forget about them.
I actually had thought JKR had made the statute earlier than that, which is my bad, so I would probably date it nearish the same time (and they do probably have records of when they put it into law) but I think the why and the how are a little different than wizards remember.
The Modern Wizarding World
To me, the Wizarding World we see in Harry Potter doesn’t reflect this story.
We see extreme anti-muggleborn sentiment in Salazar Slytheirn (who is supposed to be dated 500 years earlier). Granted, this is likely propaganda/popular legend dated to near when the statute went into effect, showing that “SEE THIS HAS ALWAYS PLAGUED OUR PEOPLE”, except he’s portrayed in a very negative light.
Salazar is a known dark wizard and when he doesn’t get what he wants, he puts a monster in the basement of the school. Even before Voldemort warped society’s perception of Slytherin, this is...
Well, it’s not the kind of legend you have about the other three founders.
That’s... not what your Cassandra should be doing.
Wizards treat the witch burnings as a joke. Oh, they don’t like the sentiment, but within the books Hermione notably reads historical accounts of witches and wizards who enjoyed getting caught by muggles because they liked being lit on fire and laughing in their faces.
Now, this is one account we get to see, but that this is something taught to the children just emphasizes that muggles aren’t viewed as a threat. They’re a nuisance or else a people to be pitied for their lack of magic.
While it has been 400 years, I think that the reasons for the founding of modern wizarding society would run deep. If it was truly because of the witch hunts alone, and fear of persecution, their narrative and attitudes would look very different.
This is not a society that went into hiding because of big bad muggles.
It’s a society that went into hiding because they were sick of this bullshit
The Bullshit Turmoil of 17th Century Europe
17th century Europe was a mess. Large parts of countries changed hands all the time, the continent was nearly always at war, and England might have been one of the biggest messes of all. Civil war, deposed kings, reform of the state religion multiple times, the witch burnings, etc.
I think the wizards just got tired of it and didn’t want to deal with it anymore. They already likely had Hogwarts, their own private, secret, educational institution, and already feel quite cut off from muggle society. Why should they pay taxes to muggle kings who change every week and whose religions constantly persecute them?
So, in the midst of all this chaos, they enact the statute. And I imagine it’s surprisingly simple. Most pack up and move, creating all wizarding neighborhoods, they have a council of their most important families meeting every so often which becomes the Wizengamot, and they become essentially a sovereign nation that just happens to leach off muggle infrastructure.
And as the years go on, and they like this not paying taxes or going to church thing, they slowly become more and more alienated from muggle society until they fail to understand it at all.
And so you have the modern wizard who literally has no clue why they separated off except that the witch burnings had something to do with it. The idea that muggles even have problems like these (politics, civil war, changing of state religion multiple times) is likely an anathema to them.
They’ve completely forgotten that they once had to deal with this too.
What About the Other Countries?
JKR doesn’t really cite when it became an international law but it’s presumably around the same time.
And you’re telling me that they were able to get people from every country, not just Western Europe, with starkly different cultures and attitudes towards magic, to agree to this? All at the same time?
To me, I think it was rapidly adopted in stages in Western Europe. Britain may have done it first then the French wizards went, “Hey, that looks like a great idea!” and went along for the ride.
I think it was imperialism/colonialism/westernization that spread the statue elsewhere. The British wizards get to China and India, sorry locals, you get to use wands, build magical academies, and have to go live separate from the muggles now. Doesn’t matter what you were doing before, our way is the right way!
With westernization, I imagine that the wizarding communities in those nations saw the changing times, and most decided to switch over to the more western model of disappearing as muggles seemed to appreciate them less and less. And even then we still have things like Rasputin happening.
The Statute Today
With increased technology, communication, and travel the Statute is untenable. It will fail. Eventually there will be something wizards can’t cover up with a gas leak. As it is, that’s very nearly Harry and Ron in 1992 when they fly a car over a populated city.
More, the alienation of the wizarding world doesn’t help. They now have no understanding of muggle culture. The only real understanding they have is through muggleborns and they’re disconnected from muggles as well as they’re essentially taken out of that society at the age of eleven.
The way wizards talk, the statute will always hold. Doesn’t matter that the obliviation department seems busier than ever, the idea that this didn’t always exist, that it can crumble, doesn’t even occur to them.
But yes, those are my general thoughts on the statute.

Hi, this is not about ASC sorry! Can you recommend some good contemporary romance novels and mystery (with romance) novels to read? Coz that's my favourite; if you've read any in the above genres. What's your favourite genre and books??
I have so many favourite books!  Please check out my brie_reads instagram -- I just recommend books on it when i finish a great one!  As to mystery, I recently read two pretty good ones (psychological thriller mysteries).
1) The Perfect Girlfriend - Karen Hamilton (woman changes her life to be what she thinks her ex-boyfriend wants and lures him back into a frightening world)
2) Dear Wife - Kimberly Belle (woman is on the run, another woman is missing, Beth’s worried her husband will find her and kill her as Jeffrey learns more secrets about his wife’s life)
As to romance novels, I like ones that usually have a bit of a supernatural element to it or a fun rom/com feel.  Most recently, I have read
3) The Bromance Book Club - Lyssa Kay Adams (group of high roller men in the community like professional athletes and club owners read romance novels in a book club to help each other save their love lives)
4) Red, White, and Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston (First son meets the royal prince and they have to learn to get along, only problem is they hate each other but they can deal with it for the public’s sake, right)
Those were both adorably fun.  Supernatural romance novels with a bit of mystery and more smut, I love these series:
5) Dark Hunter Series - Sherrilyn Kenyon (mixes steamy romance with Greek mythology and the supernatural)
6) Wings in the Night Series - Maggie Shayne (vampires are a rare breed where only those with a special blood type can be turned, until the government starts hunting them down and doing experiments)
7) Sign of Seven Trilogy - Nora Roberts (3 best friends are forced to come together every 7 years and deal with an unspeakable evil that comes into their town, but this time, it’s ready to destroy everything and they need to stop it with the help of 3 badass women)
8) In Death Series - JD Robb (pen name for Nora Roberts) (follows life of Eve Dallas NYC police officer in year 2050, mystery and romance)
I also really love historical conspiracy and action books such as
9) Cotton Malone Series - Steve Berry (Cotton is an ex-spy and ex-Navy man who finds himself amidst treasure hunts and discovers some of the world’s greatest mysteries)
10) Strike Series - Robert Galibrath (pen name for JKR) (detective series)
Then just some of my favourite books of all time that I have read over and over and over again and never tire of:
11) Outlander Series - Diana Gabaldon (historical romance, time-travel, mystery, horror, sex, medicine, violence, it has it all)
12) Three Sisters Island Trilogy - Nora Roberts (3 witches descended from the Salem witches have to find love and come together to save the island before it gets thrown into the sea)
13) The Princess Bride - William Goldman (romance, fairy-tale, comedy, satire, what more could you want)
14) The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas (mystery, intrigue, revenge)
15) Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen (classic romance)
16) The Witch of Blackbird Pond - Elizabeth George Speare (girl who grows up wild and free in Barbados is thrust into the life of the Puritans in 17th c. Mass. but she befriends a Quaker and a handsome sailor)
17) The Bronze Horseman Trilogy - Paulina Simmons (history, romance, intrigue, war, violence, sex, death)
18) The Circle Series - Ted Dekker (supernatural, action-thriller, biblical, romance)
19) All Souls Trilogy - Deborah Harkness (historical, supernatural, romance, time-travel)
20) The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova (historical, romance, mystery)
21) Candide - Voltaire (pure incredible satire)
22) Maus - Art Spiegelman (history, true story, told in comic form)
This is just an example.  As to genres, I think I like supernatural/mythologica romances the best, but I honestly read a good mix of everything! Hope it helps!

False criticism of cog
Something that already existed for years in fandom is the flawed idea of comparing death eaters to nazis and blood supremacy to racism. Comparing blood supremacy to any real life -isms is flawed by default. The similarities are there because of the inspiration the author had from history but that doesn't mean that it's supposed to be a 1 to 1 correlation. The comparisons always fall apart because blood supremacy is an imaginary -ism that was designed specifically for this imaginary society and does not apply to real people or resembles closely any real world issue. You could as well try to compare blood supremacy to sexism or ableism (this one would probably be the better comparison of blood supremacy to a real life issue rather than racism).
Now with cog those issues surfaced again. So now people try to use the same flawed approach to assess Grindelwald's movement. Grindelwald is similar to Napoleon ("In the political realm, historians debate whether Napoleon was "an enlightened despot who laid the foundations of modern Europe or, instead, a megalomaniac who wrought greater misery than any man before the coming of Hitler"" similarly to Grindelwald raging a war to drastically change society in a way that he views as fair) or Alexander the great (heterochromia; personality, like "violent temper and rash, impulsive nature"; ambitions of ruling the world; beliefs in destiny, like believing he was descended from Achilles; and his sexuality) way more than Hitler but people compare him to Hitler because??? What is actually written makes Grindelwald resemble more those other leaders, however the movie visually makes him similar to Hitler, but those are very superficial things like Grindelwald's mustache, haircut, nationality, time period, his and his followers clothing, the speech, what looks like mindless cruelty that is often associated with nazis like killing children or animals. But then there's the matter of his ideology which bears similarities to nazis if you squint, but it also bears similarities to other things and is also its own thing.
What surprises me is how big deal it is for some people, like the methods and goals and details are different but how is Grindelwald and his movement worse than Voldemort and death eaters. Admittedly the books weren't really about wizards relation to muggles, they were about inner struggles within the wizarding society, they were about blood purists vs muggleborns, so we were never told what intentions did Voldemort had for muggles but in the first chapter of DH he talks about murdering half bloods to "prune their family trees to keep them healthy", this and his speech suggest an intention of completely getting rid of people who are not pureblood enough.
The muggleborn registration commission is a clear allegory for Jewish oppression during the II WW. Having the population be closely monitored, treated differently/worse than the rest, for example irl Jews were forced to wear David's star on a band on their arm so that they can be easily distinguished in the crowd, before the ghettos and later death camps. But while the death eaters are often compared to nazis next to no one compares Voldemort to Hitler despite that this is possibly the thing that closest resembles this real life oppression of a group, way more than having the same haircut as Hitler's youth.
Lastly Grindelwald knows that a lot of muggles will die in fighting when he wages a war against them, he clearly thinks of them as worse calling them beasts of burden, but he also makes it clear that he intends on having wizards and muggles live alongside each other, corrects Vinda for talking about mass murder of all muggles and in a deleted scene even corrected someone in the crowd during his speech to not call muggles scum, not once mentions muggleborns or acts like they are different than purebloods. How is this worse or more similar to Hitler than Voldemort already was.
Then there's the controversy surrounding Queenie and the narrative that "a jewish person joined a nazi" which is as stupid as trying to compare blood supremacy and racism and then immediately tripping on your own words by applying this to snape vs james, aka for them, a mixed race vs white guy, where the mixed race guy is a white supremacist and the white guy is the hero.
First of all Queenie is not canonically Jewish, this is a headcanon that came from jkr saying her and the jewish person from Hogwarts that she talked about are related without saying that Queenie is Jewish herself. You can be related to a Jewish person without being a Jew yourself. On top of that there are no hints in the movie, no menorah in the background or anything. This is yet another example of fans maliciously switching the narrative. Nothing in cog is enough to make Dumbledore canonically gay, which makes jkr evil, and simultaneously with 0 proof whatsoever outside of an offhand comment by the author, Queenie is a Jew who joined a nazi, which makes jkr evil, everyone suddenly forgot about their beloved death of the author.
But even if Queenie was Jewish, Grindelwald is still not a nazi. In universe he isn't even a character that is the closest to being a wizard Hitler. Grindelwald's ideology doesn't oppress Queenie, the way his system works, Queenie would be the one privileged even if she was a Jew. Grindelwald's ideology isn't anti-semitic, it's a bullshit made up conflict of how much magic you've got. Either way, it does not oppress Queenie, in this allegory she is the 'white person' regardless of her race or religion which wasn't even specified anyway.
Even if Queenie was a Jew/muggle and Grindelwald was a nazi/wizard, this is something that absolutely happened irl, nazis recruiting Jews in ghettos to better police other Jews, giving them small benefits in return (before sending them all to their deaths anyway). This wasn't a case of jkr writing something offensive or inappropriate, and trying to say that she is wrong for writing about such things just because it makes someone uncomfortable is just plain censorship.
But like I already said, the comparisons to Hitler and nazis are superficial anyway, it's your basic film language. It's just like in Star Wars there is plenty of nazi imagery as a shorthand to convey that this is a powerful, autocratic, highly organized empire, because those qualities are associated with nazis thanks to Triumph of the Will. George Lucas even used the imagery of glorifying Hitler to glorify his heroes at the end of ANH, not because rebellion are nazis, but because the shot, just like the rest of this propaganda that was specifically designed for this, achieved in making the subject look powerful and triumphant.
