I dunno if anyone else has asked this already, but do you happen to have any headcanons you have for the Seven Mysteries? >:0

Heyaaaa! Thank you sm for the ask I am so happy to talk about them dhsjdhs TuT

Here are some of my headcanons :D (warning: it's long)

Disclaimer: lots of spoilers for the manga :D and lot of made up stuff too (that’s headcanons I mean)

Mitsuba (number 3) will be referred as Sousuke

Shijima-san (number 4) will be referred as Mei

and Shinigami (number 6) will be sometimes referred as Hakubo :D

Let's start with how they call each other because it says a lot about their relationships :D

They have a favorite Mokke named Bertie. Bertie is actually better than them for a lot of things. Cooking, games and such. They have a little chair in their shared boundary.

The mysteries have game nights during the week end (Akane’s parents are rarely here and he always find stupid excuses to come back to school on Saturday night)

Akane: I forgot my notebooks

Hanako: yes sure. so you went at 3am on a sunday to get them back of course number 1.

They adore games, every type is okay. Their favorite games to play are either the Werewolf or Detective (even if half of them are terrible at role playing). They also really love to play games like Tichu or Hanafuda when they are fewer to play.

Tsuchigomori always tries to find new board games to test every week now.

At first, Hanako tried to organize a ‘team building party’ each Friday. Only Tsuchigomori and Yako went on the first one because they were forced to. But now all mysteries come and it is an absolute mess every time.

Hanako actually loves to write stories which make no sense and often ask the Mokkes to make a play out of it. Sometimes it lasts more than 4 hours and the other mysteries want to set the school on fire to make it end. Sousuke discovered what bowling was one day and now they do one every month. They end up destroying the bowling alley Mei creates most of the time.

Once Akane learned that Hanako was a big fan of space he actually started to look a little bit through it and make him watch H2G2 (The hitchiker's guide to the galaxy), it became his favorite book and movie right away. Tsuchigomori gave him all tapes (lol boomer) of Star Wars and when he doesn’t know what to do he watches all the first movies. He also discovered the wonderful world of scifi and is a big fan. He reads a lot and Tsuchigomori gives him a lot of books. Talking about books is the only conversation he can have with Akane without having the two trying to strangle each other.

They have a contest to make Mei laugh. Nothing ever worked expect when Hanako got stuck in a bin for 1 hour while trying to get one of his socks back (don't ask how it got here probably Akane who just messed with him)

Kako is the prank and puns master of the mysteries, especially because at first nobody guessed he was the prankster type. His fav targets are Tsuchigomori and Sousuke because of how jumpy they are. He has a lot of absolutely ridiculous gadgets he got from they don’t know where.

Mei is really good at having a poker face and make people believe a lot of stupid shit. She managed to make the others kids believed she was a goddess for a solid week

Mei: I have the power of ubiquity, don’t you know it’s only for gods? No wonder you talked to me like that, when I am far superior than you.

Sousuke: Oh shit! I-I am so sorry, how do we have to call you then?

Hanako’s favorite thing to do is to possess objects so he can freak tf out of Sousuke (or Akane when he has his glasses) whenever he goes out of his boundary. At this point the pink haired boy has a box of salt just to throw it on everything that is moving around him. He always make a game everytime Akane has a test to see how much he can destroy his attention (stealing his glasses and sitting on his shoulders, dancing stupid stuff next to the teachers and all. If Akane turns into his supernatural form to chase him for 15 minutes it’s a win)

Akane will do everything to make Hanako remembers he is short af.

Shinigami doesn’t know what a joke is. And that makes the others tease him a lot. Kako tried to tell him that a good joke must come at the right time. He ended up ‘joking’ about the fact that Akane was one year closer to death on his 16th birthday (it’s in December in my head). The redhead ended up sulking during the whole evening.

Kako: That wasn’t what I meant when I was talking about timing Hakubo-kun.

Shinigami:ah, I thought it was a really great joke.

They are all terrible cooks except for Akane and Tsuchi who were dragged to be a judge for ‘the seven mysteries cooking show’ (Hanako loves to name absolutely everything). Fortunately they did it in one of Mei’s fake worlds otherwise the school would have been burned down around 5 times.

Akane tried to teach the other kids to cook one time, and he dropped the idea after seeing that Bertie was the only one who managed to make a decent looking cake.

They also all realize that Mei could create snacks and things to eat but could only replicate the flavors if she already ate one. The boys went through an absolute businessmen phase to see how to make money out of this (creating tons of fake food) but Tsuchi ended up scolding all three of them by making them write ‘No I don’t sell things to the other students to earn money’ during 2 hours.

Sousuke often asks Akane to buy him snacks/sweets from the outside world (None of the kids can go out, Shinigami can, Kako and Yako too. Only Tsuchi and Akane can be visible to humans though)

And Akane does the most tsundere shit ever most of the time

Akane: Uh? Buying you snacks? Did you think I was a fcking cart or something?

*takes his phone out of his pocket*

So what do you want?

Once Tsuchigomori realized the kids asked Akane a lot of stuff to buy. Books (because hey collections are important Mei can only create fakes anyways), food, games etc.. He started giving Akane money telling it was his allowance. Hanako sulked for a whole week out of jealousy.

Tsuchi ended up giving all kids allowances, which they gave to Akane after so he could buy them stuff. (but at least they have the impression they got moneys yep)

Mirai looooves stories. She always asks people to read her stuff even if Akane taught her how to read when he was 12 (he still doesn’t understand why she goes back to level 0 at each new lesson. He didn’t know he was that bad at teaching, rip his ego).

Her fav persons to read stories are Akane, Tsuchi (he is just naturally good at this being a teacher and all) and Mei since she creates some stuff from the stories with her powers.

She also loves to ask Yako to read her stories because she gets mad at the characters for being stupid. Hanako read her a story once, and decided to create a play with all the others in it who wanted to die. Mirai absolutely adored it but everyone agreed that Hanako was banished from reading her story so they wouldn’t have to go through this again. (Whenever Mirai comes to him someone literally jumps in front of her and reads the story for her, no matter who it is.)

Hakubo can’t fucking read and Mirai actually taught him.

Akane discovered this and went . __ . After learning he was reading her stories for 4 years when she actually knew how to do it alone (she just pretended she didn’t know how to do it because, hey it’s way better when people read it for her) .

Mirai’s fav story is the Der Rattenfänger von Hameln, because it reminds her of number 6. Even if Shinigami is really confused as to why a man kidnapping children reminds her of him (he is hurt but doesn’t know how to say it. Mirai is mostly thinking of the ‘really cool flute’ but hey supernaturals don’t know how to communicate)

She also likes the original stories written by the Grims and all thing related to mythology

Akane absolutely refuses to explain mythologies to her because she is like 4 in his head, it’s too violent for her.

He is careful with the stories he chooses even though Mirai doesn’t mind blood and violence, he is just an overprotective big bro. (and don’t worry that the others tease him about it even if they are all super sweet with the youngest )

(my headcanon for 12yo supernatural Akane's appareance btw yay)

Sousuke asked to do a fake test one day (he tries to follow Kou’s classes with a mirror in the back of the classroom). Akane ended up sleeping during the whole test ‘I do this all year gimme a fucking break’ Hanako suddenly disappeared with the excuse of ‘Oops sorry I don’t know how to read’ and Mei created origamis with her test. Sousuke complained that there weren't that many people in the classroom so it didn’t feel real and Mei created a whole class full of Meis. They dropped the whole idea after 30 minutes because Sousuke couldn’t take it anymore.

Hakubo loves plants. But he is terrible at taking care of them (they die once he touches them most of the time). They have a little plant in their shared boundary (the one they go to, to have a meeting) which is called Georges and have a little hat. (It’s also in a frog shaped pot). Hakubo pretends he doesn’t see its date of death reset everyday (Kako keeps it alive for him)

Sousuke is able to see people’s emotions (when he wants to, and mostly negative emotions) and admitted that wehenevr he looks at Hakubo he is uneasy because the dude is just a big void. Once he got his first plant Sousuke finally saw SOMETHING and went :o. He understood the guy is just dense and lost af. Akane is always less stressed when he is with them but that’s something Sousuke will keep as a secret for him.

Hakubo has a magic orb to see everything across the earth and Akane once joked about the fact it looked like internet. Hakubo said he was the one who invented it. They still don’t know if he was talking about the orb or internet.

Yako loves to spend time with the kids and to teach them the stuff she knows

Yako: And now this is how you caught a frog with your mouth.

Akane: Wow that’s definitely something I will write on my resume thanks

She likes to go on a bench with Sousuke and trashtalk about absolutely everyone with 0 reasons and saying the most stupid shit ever just for the sake of trashtalking.

They spare a lot with her too. She likes and knows how to fight. She usually trains Sousuke because he is a scaredy cat. Akane and Mei often spar together and it is violent af (the others see explosions in the background, they are too scared to ask wtf is happening). Hanako always says he doesn’t need to train but Yako tells him that he is pretty bad at fighting, he always ends up coming because his ego is hurt oops. (he is okay at fighting but it is not really natural. Supernaturals can learn but it takes them some times (and Amane definitely didn’t know how to fight because of how frail he was) Akane learns way quicker than the others (since he is part human) and Mei was partly created like this (human Mei thought it was really cool to know how to fight with absolutely every type of weapons))

Tsuchi doesn’t fight, Mirai is too young and Kako is too old (he just doesn't want to mostly)

Kako: once you will be 10 you will be able to

Mirai: Yayyyy

Akane: she.. she knows she will never be 10 right,Kako? Kako?

Kako: *smiles*

And Shinigami was absolutely banned from the sparring room. (the dude is a killing machine. He sulked for an entier week when he learned that, but forgave everyone when he received a new plant named Gertrude)

Mei and Sousuke often go to take photos and draw together.

They like to watch movies together and if they don't chose a movie in less than 10minutes, Bertie will automatically put Alvin and the Chipmunks. (and they will be forced to watch by the Mokke)

I'm sorry this took me a hot minute to get to, life has been crazy nutso bonkers. Okay okay so good!durge, henceforth called Thenure.... (Questions from this ask game!)

20. How did you deal with The Artist - Oskar Fevras? Did you even encounter him?

Yes, unfortunately, Thenure did encounter Oskar. She intimidated the shit out of the Zhent who was holding him so he could be free to return to his fiancee. She did NOT give him any money, because he's an ass, and she thinks he's also a moron. She cannot stand this man. But she's trying to be better, you know? So she can't just... let people participate in whatever was happening there (slavery? human trafficking? she's not sure. it wasn't murder, that's the best she's got). But she definitely wanted to (at the very least) punch Oskar in the face for being a prat.

26. What was your favorite enemy? Did your Character have any memorable fights or moments in combat that were ripe for headcanons and interpretations?

Okay so since this is an act 1 ask game... probably Thenure's favorite enemy would have been the "Paladins of Tyr" because, well, she got to protect her new friend (maybe they're friends, she doesn't really know how friends work tbh). And also, these idiots don't even have the guts to be proud of the work they do. I mean really, if you're going to murder and hunt people for a living, at least have the confidence to be proud of it. (she is rolling her eyes at the audacity) (she's also a big fan of the Ethel fight, but that's just because it's the first time Astarion called her his 'sweet bloodthirsty friend' and she's never been called sweet before and he sounded so distraught when he thought she was gonna die and no she's not crying she just got KNOCKED OUT she got HIT IN THE FACE SHUT UP! she... needed a moment to get herself together after that)

37. Did your Character find the Necromancy of Thay? How are they handling it/planning to handle it?

Thenure and co. did in fact find the Necromancy of Thay. She was not confident in her ability to read and or comprehend it, plus she got bored, so she handed it to Astarion to deal with. He was struggling to make the voices shut up (really, how hard is it to just ignore the voices in your head, that's genuinely something she deals with constantly just tune them out) so she told him to drop it for now and they'd figure it out later. (SPOILER: she definitely just handed him the means to translate it appropriately and he's a little miffed that he had to ask Shadowheart to dispel his curse but at least now he can read the blasted thing and she can stop listening to his complaining about it)

the calamity trio for the character bingo?

I did a one for Marcy earlier so I'll do Sasha and Anne together here

Sasha is so funny as a character, she's just this funky little cheerleader who's so normal about her feelings toward Anne, and Marcy to some degree, that the moment they're separated she starts dual wielding swords ("How did you know I wanted to dual wield?" OKAY BISEXUAL) and trying to form a coup against the monarchy all in a poor attempt to get them back. What a loser. I love her.

Honestly though I really like her arc a lot throughout the show, it's simple, learning to be a better friend and that you can't control every aspect of your life, least of all other peoples lives, but it's nice and I think they nailed it. And while I've never needed canon confirmation of anything to enjoy subtext, the fact that she is bi really does paint so much of her interactions with Anne in a different light. I'm glad s3 finally bought fans around to her as well because man, people were brutal about her in s2 lol. Not that she didn't do bad stuff but y'know, there was a lot of trying to prop Marcy up as the True Friend to Anne, before it turned out Marcy and Sasha both share a tendency of hiding things that will have a major effects on their group's future.

As for Anne, she's a great protag! I love that she doesn't actually super love coming to Amphibia at first, that she thinks the food sucks, that the frogs are weird and rude, that farming is a huge core. She has to really spend time with the Plantar's and Wartwood before the place starts to grow on her, as well as slowly unlearn some of not great expectations she has about friendship thanks to Sasha and Marcy. And all this is a neat subtle difference between her and Marcy actually! How they view Amphibia, as an opportunity to grow vs. an escape, makes True Colours hit all the harder. It's cool! Anne is great, she's also kind of dorky which I love too. The only thing I wish was a little different was the early s3 stuff but yeah, I get it, it's a kids show and they didn't want to have an episode like "tell us how you feel about your friends possibly being dead" but still! That's the main wasted potential issue I have. That and maybe that she's told 2 minutes before the final battle about the magic spell that will save everyone at the cost of her life. Might have been cool to have to sit on that for a few episodes, considering it. oh well!

Anyway, I love the calamity trio! They make me insane!!

Well the gates have been open, so might as well ramble.

So hear me out, i don't know why but in my brain Johnny is really To someone from a warm climate (uiscefhuaraithe) coded. There’s something about him.

I think it’s knowing where his callsign comes from, the fact that “Soap” is a silly af name but also was given to him because and i quote (i don’t, sorry if it’s not an actual quote of the actual lore) “he’s the most efficient cleaning up a building”.

Like, he’s just as messed up as the others. Obviously everyone in their own ways and on different levels (im looking at you Ghost). But then he’s also like the golden retriever in the group, the one to keep the energy up.

So, it’s giving “In summer's heat, I learned to dread, the comin' of the night” and “And I wish I could say the cold lake water of my heart / Christ, it's boilin' over” you know??

So yeah, that’s what I'm thinking. I’m trying to properly portray how that translates to a scenario with the reader because it’s been in my mind pretty much since I first listened to it. But I'm struggling to properly put it in words, idk my brain is dumb like that sometimes. It just works with vibes, I guess.

I just have really specific moments and sentences but not like a proper structure i guess. I’ll get there soon though (i hope).

Anyway, there’ll either be another post about this soon OR one saying how much I, carrion (Icarian) coded Ghost is. Or Gaz 100% giving All Things End vibes. Not sure about Price, he’s a mix of a few and i haven’t fully decided yet.

who is your favorite bob's burgers character? what's your favorite aspect about them?? what's your LEAST FAVORITE??

Thank you so much @br1ghtestlight for giving me this ask!! 😭❣️ Just for the future, though, if anyone wants to give me an ask, it’ll have to be through this account, because any ask given through my main account disappears because I’m still Shadowbanned and Tumblr is mean 😒

But onto the actual question!! Well, Light, you already know my absolute favorite is 1,000% our precious baby boy, Gene. I think my favorite aspect about him is that he has some of the best lines in the show humor-wise, but he has a great deal of depth hidden underneath the surface. He’s genuinely an incredibly talented musician (even though he and show claims he only knows a few chords, come on, he’s actually super talented) and he’s such a sweet person. He doesn’t enjoy pranking people simply because it makes them confused and uncomfortable. He just wants people to be happy!! 🥺

He also has a bigger body type which is rarely commented on and he has a love of food which is super relatable to me (I just love food, pffffft). And the headcanons of him being Genderfluid gives me an insane amount of Serotonin. It just makes me insanely happy. As a Genderfluid person, it makes me feel seen and represented, even though he’s not canonically Genderfluid. Just seeing him be unapologetically himself is incredibly lovely.

Now, because there are just so many characters I love, I must list a second favorite. And that would be Bob!! Previously, I’ve said Linda, and don’t get me wrong, I still love her. She’s hilarious and amazing and truly the best wife (🎶 Best of Wives and Best of Women 🎶) but there’s just something about Bob that’s so relatable to me. He’s always tired but always tries his best. Not to mention that his passion for cooking and feeding people is just so sweet 🥹 He loves making food for people and having food bring people together!! It’s so lovely.

Bob is also super Introverted which I relate to very hard. He has a hard time making connections with other people, and has a tight-knit circle (AKA his family) that he prefers spending his time with. And he sometimes has difficulty talking to people without coming across as weird, which I also relate to. Plus, his little quirks are so endearing, like talking to inanimate objects and pretending they’re alive. And getting so hilariously excited about Thanksgiving 🤣

And Bob and Gene together brings one of the most underrated and sweetest relationships in the Belcher family. Their Father/Son relationship is always so adorable to see. The Laser-Inth will forever be my favorite Bob and Gene episode, and probably solidified these two as my favorites.

As for my least favorite, at first I was going to say that’s difficult, because I love almost every character in the show for one reason or another. But then I realized what the obvious choices are: Gloria and Al. They are the absolute worst. Linda deserves good, doting parents, and these two are the complete opposite of that in every way. Sure, maybe they were slightly better when Linda and Gayle were younger, but definitely not now. The Terminilator II: Terminals of Endearment really solidified just how awful they truly are.

Linda dropped everything to help them at the airport, even forcing Bob to close the restaurant for the rest of the day. Then the entire family went on a wild goose chase trying to track down both Gloria and Al, who somehow kept escaping from their line of sight. Only to find out that these two could’ve bought Al’s cream at the airport themselves the whole time. Not to mention the fact that they found out that Gloria just stole Bob’s charger and refuses to admit it. Plus, Gloria once told Linda that they aren’t the type of people who build things?? Who says that to their daughter?? These two frustrate me to no end. Definitely the worst characters in the show, no contest.

Tina gets an honorable mention simply because of how relatable she is and how sweet she is. She just has such a kind heart like Gene (except when it comes to Tammy ☠️). But that’s okay, because Jimmy Jr. loves it when she’s mean 😌

Hi hello, here have an excuse to talk about murdoc harfoot-brandybuck of the easterly inn <3

jaz i love you so much you KNOW i have been waiting for someone to send me this EXACT ask. how the FUCK do i explain the character i have been playing for three years now.

so murdoc harfoot brandybuck of the easterly inn is my player character from my friend group's adventures in middle earth campaign (loving referred to as the mirkwood campaign), gmed by the absolutely wonderful @potatoobsessed999. he's very much still evolving, even as we get closer to the campaign's conclusion, as he absolutely has been over the last three years, but i will attempt to describe him, is he is my absolute favorite of my (like two) tolkien ocs, and may very well be my favorite oc of mine of all time at this point.

murdoc, as his name makes apparent, is a hobbit. he has been raised by his uncles and aunt, a family of upper-class inkeepers, as the heir apparent of the family inn. before i knew anything else about who i wanted him to be, or who he was going to become, murdoc was meant to embody the idea of home. he's creature-comfort, he's hospitality in its purest form, he's the maker of stews and the finder of comfortable places to sleep and the brewer of teas. this is the absolute core of who murdoc is: where he is is his home, and who he's with are his people, and he will do absolutely anything and everything to keep it all safe.

when murdoc was about the hobbit equivalent of a teenager, his more adventurous uncle got it into his head that he too should have a great big adventure just like his drinking buddy and idol bilbo baggins, and up and moved the family inn out of the shire and to a northern corner of mirkwood.

when murdoc was about the hobbit equivalent of, say, a human eighteen-year-old, he began to have extremely disturbing prophetic dreams.

so what do you do when you're a foresighted hobbit in the middle of a famously dangerous forest whose aforementioned foresight has every last bit of you screaming that it is now your responsibility to keep this place and everyone in it safe? you join an adventuring party, serve as an emissary of radagast the brown, have a sort of falling out with radagast the brown over realizing that his boss is evil and nobody believes you yet, adopt the ghost of actual maedhros feanorion (who is possessing your best friend's sword, as one does) as your new dad, and do a bunch of arson and protective rage murder as you develop greater and greater paranoia about whether you will be able to see coming the threats you will need to see in order to keep the people you care about alive!!!!!!

some more fun things about murdoc, in no particular order:

yes the fact that his name is Like That is on purpose. he's a pretentious piece of shit who named himself. his name is extremely reflective of the fact that he is just Like That. (also his partner is a huge nerd who got way into hobbit history around the time murdoc was picking his name and it is just as cute as it is stupid)

languages that murdoc speaks, in the order in which he learned them, include: westron, fucking spider, quenya, and sindarin. he has the most perfect most annoying feanorian accent when speaking in quenya. yes, i rolled to determine this.

(in murdoc's defense, he learned quenya because he wanted maedhros to be able to speak his first language with someone, and it was something to bond over.)

maedhros helped a very afraid and traumatized murdoc begin to interface with his foresight by acting as an anchor point for him while dreaming, to help him develop greater control over what he sees in them and to use his foresight on purpose.

murdoc did use the realization that this meant that he can see maedhros in his dreams as an immediate opportunity to hug him ;w;

murdoc's foresight cannot see nazgûl. anna, my beloved gm, has used this for effect emotional and horrific.

murdoc harfoot brandybuck of the easterly inn does in fact introduce himself to everyone he meets as "murdoc harfoot brandybuck of the easterly inn"

this resulted in murdoc being put on the entire-ass council of mirkwood because everyone assumed that this was an important title and the easterly inn must be a small fiefdom

murdoc did not correct anyone about the fact that the easterly inn is very much not a small fiefdom

murdoc has a +13 intimidation, making it his highest stat. i'm not sure what stats our gm gave to @jaz-the-bard for maedhros, but we have talked about it at some point and murdoc's is apparently higher

murdoc has a feat that lets him vanish into thin air. it's not magic or anything. he's extremely not a ringbearer. he's just That sneaky.

has a rivalry with one of The Eagles^tm. over hospitality.

his primary weapon is an enchanted dwarven bow. he shoots flaming arrows.

lover of a good molotov cocktail to solve all his problems very fast

special interests include teas, cooking, and linguistics!! likes to research all the local plants and come up with tea brews that remind him of people or places, or pair well with certain things. came up with a brew for himself that he only shares with people he trusts and cares deeply for. i do in fact have little snippets for points at which he has shared it with each member of the party.

i did once storyboard an edgy animatic for him to the killers' jenny was a friend of mine. i am still very proud of it, and lament that i cannot animate. or do art at all.

i have been playing this character through a literal global pandemic, the completion of two entire degrees, my first adult job, and literally so much other life stuff. sometimes i think about how long i've had him for and how much he's changed, very organically, in that time, and get entirely too emotional about him tbh.

murdoc operates, i would say, from a very genuine sense of care for others, eclipsed by a rather marked lack of estel. for about the whole three years i've had him, i would say i've felt genuinely none from him, and i did not think it was there.

the last time i played him however, i did.

anyhow!!!!! this post would not be complete without this lovely art of our party - i don't know that the artist we commissioned is on tumblr, but "hey can i share this?" was met with an enthusiastic "go for it!" so!! on top is my boy, and left to right down are the bearer (@thymo-leonta), déorwyn (@shadowkat2000), ríros (@jaz-the-bard, who also plays maedhros), and ioreth (not canon ioreth jdjdndn, whose player is definitely not on tumblr).

Hi~ I binge-read orv webtoon today and I have just finished. I came to Tumblr to know more about the fandom and I realised that people ship Dokja with Joonghyuk. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting that. I thought their "flirty"(? interactions were just some sort of fan service or silly jokes. Is there anything in the novel that implies a relationship between them? Or maybe something that I missed in the webtoon? (I struggle with picking up social cues, especially romantic cues)

I hope this ask doesn't upset you, you were one of the top orv blogs that Tumblr showed me

Wait I'm one of the top orv blogs??? 💀💀💀 But for sure, I don't mind at all, anon! I love having an excuse to rant about orv <3

To preface this: yes, most of the heavier joongdok content comes until later in the novel, but there ARE some highlights in the webtoon as well so far.

I think most of the appeal of early joongdok interactions in the webtoon comes from the enemies to lovers vibe they have going on. Picture KDJ hyperfixating on his single favorite character for 10+ years, through every up and down of his life. In his narration during their FIRST meeting he explicitly says:

I liked you, hated you, resented you, and cheered for you. I was with you throughout your three-thousand episode journey. (webtoon ch. 12)

AND THEN. He finds out his favorite blorbo comes to life and proceeds to annoy him until he starts choking him over a bridge with a sunset backdrop like something out of a romance drama. It's all about the tension and subversion of expectations 🤌

Their relationship is very much a slowburn. YJH very reasonably distrusts KDJ at first (due to some past trauma) but we do see him gradually start to warm up to KDJ as the story progresses.

One of the main highlights is during ch. ~100 in the Disaster of Floods scenario. When KDJ sacrifices himself for YJH, he proceeds to freak out, tries to save him even when he knows it's futile, and refuses to kill him for coins even when YJH is often largely pragmatic in his interactions with others. We're told that YJH pretty much never uses the word "companion" because it holds too much meaning for him and he's never acknowledged KDJ as such, even though KDJ insists they're "life and death companions" (which is already pretty damn poetic if not romantic imo). But when Shin Yoosung asks who KDJ is to him, YJH says:

"That guy. He is my companion." (ch. 102)

(This got translated as "a companion of mine" in the webtoon but the novel is where it's at.) And keep in mind this is also an actual quote from the novel btw:

The weight of this word, 'companion', was too great for Yoo Joonghyuk. (ch. 12)

However, as I mentioned, their relationship only really starts to develop until later in the novel. To be clear, there's no explicit romance in orv–which I personally really appreciate because it opens up the floor instead to flesh out all the platonic relationships all of the characters have with one another that are JUST as deep and profound.

But even so, joongdok is very much canon to me. I don't want to give too much away because I'd be spoiling the rest of the novel for you, but they really are cosmic soulmates meant for one another in a way that is so narratively profound and completely goes full circle. The lengths they go to for one another are actually insane and there's no doubt in my mind the love and devotion they feel for one another is real and simultaneously indescribable by mere labels.

I really hope you're planning on continuing to read the novel now that you finished the webtoon! I truly cannot recommend it enough. It is literally and unironically the single greatest piece of literature I've ever read and the journey is 100% worth it. Plus, the webtoon will take a long time to complete at the current rate so the only way to find out what happens next is by reading the novel 😉

Anyway, I hope this was somewhat helpful to you! I think it's really admirable that you're trying to search for a different interpretation from your own. There's a saying in orv by one of the characters: "Read it again", and the intention there is that by rereading (or looking at things again in a new light) you will always find new meaning even within the exact same text, as long as you're willing to look for it. So the fact that you're asking this question is very much in the spirit of orv itself <3

And this goes without saying but you're also completely free to interpret them in your own way as well!

(By the way, I highly advise you to blacklist the "orv spoilers" tag and try to tread with caution if you're searching for content! There are spoilers literally EVERYWHERE and while orv is still very much enjoyable even with spoilers, all the reveals won't hit as hard–trust me. There really is so much that can be spoiled.)

okay hear me out modern au where Tommy and Maria first meet in a club in their 20s and they bump into each other while dancing and just start dancing together and they just hit it off but in the end they both forget to give each other their numbers so both of them go back to the same club the next week to hopefully meet each other again (also Tess and Maria definitely go clubbing together because I love them as best friends)

cowboy!!!! yes yes YES i LOVE this. and u could extend this meet-cute into like a whole thing where tommy and maria keep trying to meet at the club and exchange information, but something gets in the way everytime!!!! kid emergency!!! bar fight!!! cocaine bear on the loose!!! zombie apocalypse—who knows????

im thinking the first time, tess drags maria to a bar she likes because she’s been trying to get the attention of this hot dilfy guy at the bar, but he’s always tailing along with his friend. by tess’s design, maria and tommy meet and and hit it off and dance (to maria maria by santana) the night away. they fall in love and decide they want to go home together, so maria goes to the bathroom—but joel randomly comes up and is like “tommy, hey sorry selena’s mom called, sarah had a nightmare and she wants us both to pick her up, we gotta go” and in true miller dad-uncle panic they BOLT. by the time maria comes back, tess is like “idk dude, mine got a call so they had to go. seemed like an emergency. bummer” and they assume thats that

on the flip side: everythings okay with sarah, but after tommy and joel tuck her in tommy’s suddenly just like “fuck—fuck!!!!!” and joels like “what? what???” and he’s like “i didn’t get her number :(:(:(:( fuck” and so joel’s like “it’s okay, i see her friend there all the time” and so tommy’s like “omg :D do you have her friends number?” “well… no” “joel… what the fuck man.” so they make a plan to go back next week with the hopes of at least seeing tess and getting maria’s number from there—tommy also wants to get tess’s number for joel, but he doesn’t need to know that

little do THEY know, tess and maria are already plotting for next weekend. they show up to that bar looking fine as FUCK—they quite literally turn heads walking through the door. of course the miller brothers are there, sitting in a booth all the way in the back and waiting, making eyes. tess and maria are not shy, so they start making their way over. unfortunately, some drunk asshole decides to try to get handsy with tess on her way there—which results in her punching him in the face, which results in him trying to punch her in the face. she dodges, of course, but it starts a full-on bar brawl that the miller boys jump into without hesitation (joel manages to tackle and land a few good ones on og drunk asshole too so. slay.). none of them get arrested or anything, but they definitely don’t get eachother numbers on account of joel and tommy having to duck the cops

so i guess they gotta keep trying ;)
