I was thinking about the idea that homophobia doesn't exist in the world of Our Flag Means Death. I think it's clear that this is not the case, but it is a more complicated issue than what we think of when we discuss straightforward homophobia, and is closely aligned with how the different worlds represented in the show perceive sex, love, and desire.
(Before I get going, I want to be clear that I'm discussing the world of the show itself, not the world of the historical Caribbean in the 18th Century. Our Flag Means Death primarily uses history as a useful lens through which to filter our own time period and the things it wants to discuss, and so only uses history when it serves the show's purposes. These are all just my thoughts - I'm always happy to discuss them!)
Tumblr media
There are two major worlds at play in the show: the English gentry that Stede comes from, and the pirate world. In neither world is homosexuality explicitly treated as illicit or unacceptable, though it is never mentioned or shown in the English world. Most of the homophobia expressed by characters lies in the perceptions of the "right" and "wrong" ways of performing gender and sexual roles. I talked about this a bit here in regards to Izzy's homophobia.
In both the English and the pirate worlds, Stede's gender presentation is openly questioned. Stede is a fop - not necessarily a sexual marker one way or the other - but he's also, in the words of the show, soft. His father labels him a "weak-hearted, soft-handed, lily-livered little rich boy" who has never done a "man's work," blanches at the sight of blood, and is only inheriting his power from better, more masculine men.
Within the world of the show, Stede occupies a role typically reserved for female characters, in which he's sold in marriage to build his family's wealth. His romantic desire to marry for love is knocked down; it doesn't matter if he loves Mary or she loves him, or if there is even any desire on either side, because the whole point is to unite their wealth and produce heirs to carry on that wealth.
Tumblr media
In Stede's memories, the shift from getting married to having children is instantaneous. Sex is implied, but it barely exists for him - it was simply something that he had to do to fulfill his part. Again, this casts Stede in a role often reserved for female characters in fiction. The function of sex, in the English world, is procreation. Desire hardly enters into it, and love certainly doesn't. So it is likely that Stede's only sexual experiences are ones without desire and without love. They are simply to fulfill a function.
Pirate society is significantly more open when it comes to expression of sexuality, but it is still steeped in sexual roles and requirements. Stede's outward queerness marks him out, but it's his inward queerness and how that integrates his emotional core that makes him unacceptable within the masculine hierarchy represented by Izzy and Calico Jack.
I've gone into Izzy's toxic masculinity and hatred of Stede's gender presentation elsewhere, but to reiterate briefly - Izzy's biggest problem with Stede is that Stede does not occupy the correct gender role within the masculine hierarchy, nor does he occupy a properly defined sexual role. He is, in Izzy's view, supposed to be submissive to a dominant male, and he's anything but. He breaks the rules of piracy and he breaks the rules of masculinity, without seeming to be aware that there are rules to break (at least in the pirate world). Stede is "wrong" in Izzy's understanding of masculinity and homosexuality, just as he is wrong in the Badmintons'/his father's understanding.
Tumblr media
It is Stede's breaking of those rules that attract Ed to him in the first place. He doesn't act like a pirate should. He's strange. He's off-script. He's...queer. That queerness draws Ed in - far from being repelled by it, as Izzy thinks he should be, he's fascinated by it. Stede's softness and gentleness are things that Blackbeard should either reject or attempt to dominate, and he does neither.
What comes out in Stede and Ed's interactions is that Ed himself doesn't just desire softness, but is soft himself. Beneath the masculinity he puts on, he wants to be touched with kindness, he wants to be embraced. One of Stede's first questions is if he "fancies a fine fabric." When Ed says he does, Stede doesn't laugh at him or view this as un-masculine. He shows Ed as many fine fabrics as he can, excited to finally have another man with whom to exchange this love.
Ed also wants to be submissive without being hurt. He gets Stede to stab him in a performance of sex, but the act implies even more than that - that sex and pain are closely related in the pirate world, tied to sexual roles (men who penetrated and men who are penetrated). But Stede, once more, is a gentle man who penetrates. He doesn't see the stabbing as a sexual act, nor does he get a sexual thrill from causing Ed pain. Ed submits to a man who cares that he's being hurt, and it is this softness that Ed wants and is, as yet, unable to ask for.
(It is notable that, when Ed recalls the stabbing in "Fun and Games," his main memory is of Stede's look of concern.)
Tumblr media
The role of sex, love, and desire in the pirate world is made clearest with Calico Jack, far and away the most explicit representation of a pirate's toxic masculinity, who also highlights the reading of sex as about power and pain, not love. Calico Jack and Stede's conversation is the first time that sexual relationships between men is actually raised, in explicit and vulgar terms as Jack asks Stede if he and Ed are "buggering each other" and tells Stede "Blackie and I have had our dalliances."
Jack views Stede's response as being ashamed, but we see clearly that it's not shame but anger. Stede doesn't like who Ed is with Jack, and he doesn't like Jack's vulgarity, simplifying sex, and especially sex with Edward Teach, down to pure functions, not expressive of love or desire, just as they are in the English world. Jack's attitude that this is simply what men do to (not even with) other men when they are at sea, and he's proving his dominance by telling Stede that he's done it with Ed.
Tumblr media
Stede is not ashamed at the assumption that he and Ed are having sex, but angry at the implication that sex between them would be "buggery" and "dalliance," not love (and, what's more, that Ed would be treated as a thing instead of a person by another man).
Stede's queerness is part of his emotional core - it is not a whim. It is not something he can discard or mask, regardless of how he dresses or behaves. It is not something that just "goes at sea," or that can be reduced to functions. It is integral to himself, and so he's been completely unable to conceal it from being perceived in either the English or the pirate world, though he has tried very hard to conceal it from himself.
Ed has also tried to conceal the emotional reality of his queerness via his performance as Blackbeard, turning it outward as violent games between men, without softer emotions. It is with Stede that his own emotional core is revealed, and the big mean pirate is shown to be a man who wants to be held and touched, to be submissive without being shamed or harmed.
They allow each other to be vulnerable, to move beyond their worlds' insistence on sex as being purely a function and to unite it with love and desire. Their romance develops out of friendship and a powerful emotional understanding that claims softness as strength.
Tumblr media
Neither Stede nor Ed are acceptable in worlds dominated by toxic masculinity and controlled by rules of masculine hierarchy and power. But they are acceptable on the Revenge, filled with a crew of the "worst pirates in the world," all of whom openly, and increasingly, express fluid gender and sexual roles and identities that shift with relationships and feelings. Both are aligned with the queer liberation of the Revenge, itself shaped by Stede's ethos of kindness and breaking the "culture of violence" of piracy, but they have to break out of their worlds' underlying homophobia to find their way to each other.

GENDERBEND RAHHHHHH
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love drarry and i love women so put it together and you get this, i present to you: Harphine
Harry is consequently now named Harley; Draco is also now named Delphine (Full name Delphinus Lucius Malfoy, however asks to be referred to as Delphine because it's pretty). I decided to keep everyone else the same because the world centres around them. Delphine is the ultimate coquette girl, lana del rey wishes she could be as coquette as her. Mega popular girl and a trendsetter, one day she wears a headband to school, the next day, half the female students are as well. Extreme closet gay, internalised homophobia...
Harley on the other hand is a major tom-boy, as a toddler and young childhood she probably had a buzzcut or short hair because her hair was too much maintenance for the Dursley's. She also wore Dudley's old clothes so she was mistaken for a boy for most of her young life, she only began to grow it out when she started attending Hogwarts and got a major glow-up in third year. and now the multitude of headcanons: 1) Delphine resorts to flirting to get her way with male students, however it is only by accident does Harley discover Delphine is prudent when she flirts with her. Delphine immediately goes red, sputtering incoherently:
"MY FATHER WILL HEAR OF THIS!!!" "good, I'm glad he knows about me so it won’t be as awkward to meet him when I'm over for dinner"
Harley uses this to her advantage and begins to spread rumours about Delphine to finally get back at her for all these years 'Pure Blood Delphine Malfoy, sole heir, is a homosexual?!' It gets out of hand and Delphine's rep gets ruined or somethin
2) Harley is a bit of an artist, she likes drawing/doodling. One day she's sitting in potions class, not listening because fuck that, idly drawing on her parchment without much thought, only for her to realise that hey... this kind of looks like Delphine, and then realising she's just been drawing Delphine in various sitting poses for the past half an hour.
3) Even though Harley really hates Delphine, she has to admit, she's really fucking gorgeous, and in an odd way Harley kind of admires how put together she is. Harley does try to imitate her makeup one day because she wants to know how it feels to be pretty/put together, it turns out shite, Ron laughs at her, Harley beats him up; Delphine also laughs at her. But when they do become good friends, like fifth year or so, Delphine does do her makeup (imagine that one img of the girl on top of the other doing her eyeshadow, that's them).
3.5) Slight extension from the previous one, I mentioned this on my xwitter awhile back -- Harry purposely messes up his tie so Draco can fix it, because Draco's love language is to clean up people, i.e brushing lint off their shoulder, adjusting their collar, kind of like a cat. In this genderbent au, Harley messes up her lipstick everytime so Delphine can redo it.
4) Delphine is a massive closeted lesbian, and is pining for Harley in her own odd way. When they begin to get close, Delphine instictually reels back, because she's used to playing hard-to-get with other guys as a flirting method. She doesn't quite register that it doesn't work with girls, which leaves Harley wondering what she did wrong and why Delphine isn't as interested.
5) When they do finally get into a relationship, most likely like sixth/seventh year, it's very low-key and secretive because Delphine still has internalised homophobia/closeted. But Lucius ends up arranging her marriage because she's an only child and a female to the Malfoy name. What happens next is idk
6) Lucius either dotes on Delphine like a child who is in constant need of being helped and cannot be independent, or never speaks to her ever because he's disappointed he has a daughter.
OKAY THATS IT, I HAVE MORE HEADCANONS THAT I WILL POUR IF ENOUGH ASK FOR IT LOL... i wanna see if I can make Harphine their genderbend ship name, it's cute
also boobs bc im gay and so are they

- Hazel and Nico often shared a bed on the argo ii
- Bianca was goth first
- All of them have freaky good vision in the dark
-Hazel forgets to blink or breathe sometimes, and often creeps people out. Either her body is used to being dead or she got a new one on being resurrected but her mind hasn't caught up yet. Both creepy options. Scary Hazel Rights.
- she also needs a heavy weight on top of her her be able to sleep. She doesn't like this about herself.
- Nico has ringbinders full of mythomagic cards which he reorganises by a new theme every morning. He also has metaphorical binders full of autism.
- I was gonna put a Maria one here but I could go on about Maria di Angelo for a decade and not be done
- Hazel like my little pony and strawberry shortcake
- Hazel draws a lot of fanart
- Nico has his own special set of black scrubs for helping in the infirmary
- Nico knits (mostly socks), Will crochets (mostly blankets). They both learnt from their mothers.

- Nico styles his hair deliberately in a bats nest. Hazel doesn't know that this is deliberate and thinks he is just scruffy.
- Hazel plucks Nico's monobrow realtrue canon feature as an experiment. Will cried seeing his boyfriend with 2 (two!!) Eyebrows.
- the only person will has acted jealous around is pranjal. Nico isn't sure if it's the boyfriend kind of jealousy or some weird healer envy (it's both)

The Updated Tedependent Masterpost
Disclaimer: Same as last time! I have no problem with people who ship other things, don't ship anything, or ship Tedependent but don't want/expect it to be canon! This is just a theory... (a TED LASSO theory 😎)
Quick notes:
original post here!
Some of this stuff is new, some of it is old, some of it is my observations, and some of it is from other people... I was just getting annoyed at the old post missing stuff and wanted to have all the Tedependent evidence in one place
I’ll be updating this post if new evidence comes along 😊
PART 1 - The Evidence
Car park/similarities with Michelle
In 1x05 when Ted tells Michelle he’s ready to get divorced, he talks about how their relationship began —at school, in a parking lot. Not only did Ted and Trent visit a school on the day they began to get to know each other, but their last scene of season 2 takes place in the Richmond parking lot, which draws even more parallels between their relationship and that of Ted and Michelle. This post also illustrates some connections between the scene between Michelle and Ted and the one between Ted and Trent at the end of 3x02.
Ted’s focus on Trent
From the very first time he calls on Trent in the press room, we see Ted act differently towards Trent than the other reporters. He makes jokes with him, and Trent responds in turn. Ted also makes Trent’s daughter biscuits, which we never see him do for any other reporter and which also implies that not only has he interacted with Trent outside of work but he’s also met his daughter too, something that he doesn’t appear to do with other journalists.
Parallels between Roy/Keely and Ted/Trent
This is a list within a list! The parallels are: - Roy and Keeley have their first big romantic moment in the Richmond parking lot, which is also where Ted and Trent's last scene of season 2 is set (and connects to the Michelle parking lot speech too). - When Roy first invites Keeley on a date, they do a sort of press room roleplay thing. Not only are they just generally mirroring Ted and Trent, but Keeley literally introduces herself as "Keeley Jones, The Independent Woman", announcing herself in the exact same way that Trent usually does, even down to her joking newspaper name, which is literally.... The Independent Woman... It couldn't really be any more on the nose. - The first scene where we see Roy and Keeley begin to fall for each other is at the end of 1x03, after Roy headbutts Colin in the club and threatens everyone to stop bullying Nate, and we get Keeley and Roy nodding at each other in acknowledgement. As this is happening, Trent is reading out his article about Ted, which could be considered the first time we see Trent beginning to fall for Ted. - Roy and Keeley also have Phoebe, who's almost their pseudo-daughter in some scenes, similar to how Trent has a daughter.
Twelfth Night
In 2x07, at around 31 mins in, we get a scene with Trent going up to Ted in the pub to ask for a quote. At the beginning of this scene, right before Trent shows up, Mae says to Ted "If music be the food of love, play on, give me excess of it", which is the opening line to Shakespeare's romantic comedy Twelfth Night. In Twelfth Night, this line is said by Orsino, who is lamenting about a woman named Olivia, whom he loves but who doesn't love him back (I take this to be Ted and Michelle). Orsino then moves on and falls in love with Caesario, a man who is actually a woman called Viola disguised as a man. To cut a long story short, the relationship between Orsino and Viola/Caesario is considered to be a homosexual love story. Bear in mind that lines in this show are rarely said for no reason, and that this line serves no other purpose (and frankly seems a little out of place) than to hint at a romance between Ted and Trent.
Casablanca
At the beginning of the same scene, when Trent sees Ted, he says "Of all the pub joints!". This is a reference to the line "Of all the gin joints in the world, she walks into mine" from Casablanca. As well as this, episode 8 of season 3 is titled “We’ll Never Have Paris”, another reference to Casablanca (although so far some of the suspected titles have been slightly different from the actual title). Casablanca is, of course, an incredibly famous (perhaps the most famous?) romance movie, and it’s interesting to me that not only does it get referenced in a scene between Ted and Trent but it comes up again in season 3.
Also to note: Raja Casablanca is the name of the football club Edwin Akufo invites Sam to join in season 2. Because of this, some people have speculated that the episode title’s reference to Casablanca is actually meant to link back to Sam. I find this unlikely though, as the episode preceding it is titled “Ola’s”, which is the name of Sam’s restaurant, so it would be unlikely to have two Sam-centric episodes in a row.
Trent’s Date
On the same scene of season 2 (we got a LOT from that scene...), we see Trent leaving someone at the door. Many people have speculated that this is his partner or someone he’s dating, which is very likely when you consider Trent’s not-very-platonic tone and way of touching the man. An interesting detail about the man Trent was dating is that he has a moustache, much like someone else we know… 🤨🤨
Higgins
In 2x05 Higgins describes to Rebecca how the first time he met his wife, he embarrassed himself by spilling beer all over himself, and the first time Ted and Trent interact, Ted also embarrasses himself by spitting water everywhere.
Similarities between Trent and Rebecca
There are quite a few similarities between Trent and Rebecca- they’re both very icy to Ted in the beginning, are won over through food (Rebecca through the biscuits, Trent over spicy Indian food), are almost the exact same age according to the pilot script, have strangely similar hair, and the only people Ted makes biscuits for on the show are Rebecca and Trent’s daughter. As well as this, in 1x03 Ted says to Trent “Watch your back, Gay Talese there’s a new iconic profile about to be typed up by one Trent Crimm” then in 1x09 Ted says to Rebecca “Watch your back, Kate Moss there’s a new bad girl on the British modelling scene”.  I believe this is a way of twisting the expectation that Rebecca and Ted are going to end up together to have Ted end up with someone similar, but not who people expect.
Final scene of season 2
Ted’s final scene in the whole of season 2 is him with Trent, which is especially interesting as this scene is sandwiched between scenes about the other major romances on the show (the scenes go Rebecca and Sam, then Ted and Trent, then Roy and Keeley). The significance of Ted’s last scene of the whole of season 2 being with Trent can’t really be overstated. Ted Lasso is a show that loves its parallels, and it would’ve been satisfying to have both season 1 and 2 end with Ted and Rebecca having a debrief about the season in her office, but season 2 instead breaks this expectation by having the scene between Ted and Trent after this.
Trailer/last episode release dates
The trailer for season 3 was released on Valentine’s Day, which was likely a deliberate choice hinting that this season will include more romance. As well as this, the last episode airs the day before pride month, which, although less likely to be deliberate, is also an… interesting coincidence.
The Trent trailer
In the run-up to season 3, Apple TV released a sort of trailer/teaser thing on their website featuring Trent narrating the events of early season 1. This is a very strange video- it was released shortly before season 3 but doesn’t contain any new footage apart from Trent’s voiceover and a couple of shots of Trent’s desk, so it’s not really a trailer. It’s also not a summary- it doesn’t contain any information about season 2, or even the events of season 1. It’s also not spoiler-free though- it includes many shots from late season 2 that give away the plot and even has Trent sign off as “Trent Crimm, independent”. So what on earth was this video made for? And why is it displayed on the website with this photo, of all things, as the icon?
Tumblr media
I don’t have the answers to those questions. But what I can say is that this video gives off very rom-com journalist falls for main character vibes. And seems to exist for no other reason than to have Trent wax lyrical about Ted for 3 minutes.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
In their last scene of season 2, Trent tells Ted that he doesn't know how to ride a bike, which seems to me to be a very deliberate hint that at some point in the series we’ll get him learning to ride. We know episode 6 is set in Amsterdam, aka the bike capital of the world, and during this episode the song Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head plays, which also plays during a bicycle riding scene in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. As well as this, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, who play the titular characters of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, are referenced in 3x03 and 3x04, respectively, so it would make a lot of sense for episode 6 to have a romantic bike riding scene referencing the film, definitely with Trent in and most likely with Ted there too. On top of this, the film has a lot of queer subtext, which makes it all the more interesting that it’s referenced in season 3 and most likely referenced in a scene between Ted and Trent. Thanks to @crimmcast for bringing this connection to my attention!
11:11 wishes
At the beginning of 3x02, Ted states that 11:11 is his wishing time, and then at exactly 11:11 in the episode, Ted says "Trent Crimm is writing a book about us". While I don't think Ted wished for Trent to write a book about the club since he already knew that was happening, I think that between this and Trent being in the scene where Ted first talks about his 11:11 wishing tradition, Ted’s wishes and Trent are somehow connected. Thanks to this post for pointing this out!
"Goodnight Sport"
Ted says this to Trent at the end of 3x02, and it's significant for a few reasons. Firstly, Ted gives other members of the Diamond Dogs nicknames such as "sweetheart", so this cements Trent's place as part of the group. Secondly, in the scene preceding this, they talk about how sport is an excellent metaphor, after Roy uses it as a metaphor for his relationship with Keeley. This means that, having just used sport as a metaphor for relationships and love, Ted then chooses to apply this word to Trent. Thirdly is the connection to The Great Gatsby, in which Gatsby frequently refers to Nick as “old sport”, with the relationship between Gatsby and Nick often considered to be queer coded.
La Cage aux Folles
Shortly after the first episode of season 3 aired, Apple Music released the playlist, which included all the songs in order in season 3. The final song on the playlist was I am what I am, which is the last song of Act 1 of La Cage aux Folles. La Cage is a musical about a gay couple who run a nightclub, and this song is about Albin refusing to hide his sexuality and go back into the closet. It’s the final song of the show, so if this season follows the precedent set by the previous two and closes with the same character it started with, this song will play over a scene with Ted in it. Apple has recently removed all the songs from the Ted Lasso Season 3 playlist from episodes we have yet to see, which indicates that the playlist probably includes spoilers, which this song, if it’s used as expected, definitely counts as. I’ve seen some people express worries that I am what I am will be misused and that the writers/showrunners may not understand the significance of the song to the queer community and end up using it to express Ted’s acceptance of his mental health or something similar. I severely doubt this- I don’t think a show like Ted Lasso, which so carefully puts in lines that hint at things that happen several seasons later (think the way Roy’s anger at Trent was laid out from the start of season 1), would be so blind as to overlook the cultural significance of the final song used in probably the entire show.
The songs get more romantic after Amsterdam
The songs get considerably more romantic after the Amsterdam episode, and although this could technically be for other couples on the show, it’s a CONSIDERABLE increase—over half the songs post-Amsterdam are romantic, which leads me to believe that Ted either gets into a relationship or things ramp up romantically during/after Amsterdam. Technically, this piece of evidence isn't specifically for Tedependent, but more for Ted having some sort of relationship in S3.
The infamous James Lance interview
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are some quotes from an interview James Lance did after season 2 had just finished airing. I try not to read too much into what actors say in interviews as it can easily be misinterpreted, but his insistence that there’s “something there” in the way Trent looks at Ted as well as that there is something about Trent, to do with Ted, that is yet to be revealed in season 3 is certainly intriguing. He also refuses to answer whether Trent is gay or not. I feel like this is most likely because if viewers knew about Trent’s sexuality, the Colin outing storyline would not be as compelling, as knowing for sure that Trent is gay would essentially rule out him outing Colin.
Season 3 is far more queer than the previous seasons
Season 3 is considerably more queer than the seasons before it, and not just because of the Colin storyline. Concepts like changing your name being integrated into episodes (although I hate Zava and have a lot of opinions about the Zoreaux/Van Damme storyline), Zava’s line about gender being a construct, and even Ted correcting Rebecca about West Ham in the first episode (which, although Ted is technically correcting her on using they/them as a plural pronoun and not singular, is still very queer coded) all make this season have a lot more queer undertones. As well as this, Ted has had multiple… suspicious lines this season. His comment in episode one about the “muscular thighs” of rugby players, telling Beard/Roy to “just KISS”- Ted this season so far has been far more overtly queer coded than in previous seasons.
Height as a metaphor for masculinity
This point isn’t entirely about Ted and Trent themselves, but rather an interesting thought I had about the season’s portrayal of height so far. We’ve had both Ted and Trent comment on other men’s heights—"He’s tall" and "You’re tall" respectively—as well as Nate, whose masculinity was constantly undermined throughout his time at Richmond seen struggling to reach the believe poster. Both Beard and Roy laugh at Nate’s struggles, two men who are confident in their own masculinity, but Ted and Trent do not, as men who, in Ted’s words, have had “guys underestimating me my entire life”. Neither Ted nor Trent are particularly short, and their comments about other men’s heights seem a little out of place, but they are both unconventionally masculine, and the men they direct these comments to are the opposite—Zava in particular, as a successful football player, is masculine in the most typical sense. Taking these lines as nods to Ted and Trent’s unconventional masculinity also makes them queer coded, with non-typical presentations of masculinity often synonymous with queer men.
Unconventional families
A big theme in the whole show is family, particularly found family, but this season doubles down on that with the idea of unconventional families coming up a few times in the first few episodes. Ted tells Michelle that "I love our family, no matter what it looks like", and there's also Higgins' joke about the boy and his father, which elicits a few responses about different unconventional families (gay, sperm donor). As well as this, in this interview, Jason talks about Ted finding “another way to go about living this life” and the idea of moving away from the nuclear family structure, which is all very interesting. 🤔🤔
The House in the Cerulean Sea
As I said earlier, I try not to reference things the actors/creators of the show say or do on social media too much because there’s often a big scope for misinterpreting or reading too much into things. That being said, when Jason Sudeikis likes a tweet comparing Ted Lasso to my favourite book ever, I can’t not say something about it! Because wow was that a moment. Embarrassingly, I somehow never noticed the connections between two of my favourite pieces of media until I thought more about it after seeing this tweet, but WOW, are there connections. I’ll try to give as spoiler-free a synopsis as I can… Linus Baker, the main character, is trapped in a morally dubious job that he tells himself is important and something he enjoys, until he gets sent to observe and report on an orphanage run by Arthur Parnassus, who’s very Ted-coded and shows Linus kindness that he’s never encountered before, making him think more about who he is and what he’s doing with his life. If the Trent connections aren’t already blaringly obvious, consider the way Linus starts the story as an observer and over time slowly becomes a part of the narrative. I’ll stop there because I don’t want to get carried away and give spoilers, but the whole book is SO Ted Lasso coded! (Not just in the relationship between Linus and Arthur, but literally the whole book) I really encourage everyone to read it. Also, um… did I mention? It’s basically a slow-burn queer love story between Linus and Arthur.
The Kinks
In 3x02, we get Trent entering the clubhouse to the tune of A Well Respected Man by The Kinks. Later in the show, around episode 11, Strangers plays, which is another Kinks song. This is a romantic song, and considering the Kinks are already connected to Trent through his entrance in episode 2, this song could be used for a moment between Ted and Trent.
Robert Redford
After Trent shows the coaches the security footage of Nate ripping the believe sign, Ted says to him “May a young Robert Redford portray you in a film someday”, and Trent responds, “Probably Dustin Hoffman”. This is in reference to All the President’s Men, a film about journalists uncovering the Watergate scandal, where Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman play the main two journalists of the film. The strange thing about this line is that Ted decides to compare Trent to Robert Redford, pictured here on the right, despite him clearly looking much more like Dustin Hoffman, especially with the hair. By comparing Trent to Robert Redford, Ted is essentially saying “Hey, I think this incredibly attractive man should play you in a movie!”. And if that isn’t a gay thing to say, I don’t know what is.
Tumblr media
PART 2 - Conclusion
I’ve talked almost exclusively so far in this post about connections between specific lines and other character’s arcs/pop culture references and mostly avoided analysing the chemistry and compatibility between Ted and Trent themselves. This is because I wanted to present as solid evidence as I could, and things like romantic glances are far more subjective and up for interpretation. Something that can seem romantic to one person can be seen as completely platonic by someone else. That being said, I do think the two of them have a lot of chemistry, and their arcs fit together so well: Ted as someone who often hides his feelings and puts on a mask of positivity, and Trent as someone who can see through people’s masks and get to what they really mean. They have had a few romantic moments as well: their last scene of season 2, as well as at the end of 3x02, which both contain lingering looks, and the latter is literally overlaid with a romantic song. As well as this, they just get each other; Trent understands and responds accordingly to every single reference Ted throws at him, and he even enjoys his puns (in contrast to Sassy’s denial of Ted in which she cites his “dreadful puns”). The two of them work so well together, and it would be so beautiful to see a queer middle-aged love story, especially if it tells the story of discovering your sexuality later in life.
The idea of Nate’s downfall was hinted at in season 1 with a few lines and subtle moments, not enough for a casual viewer to notice the first time around but just enough to see it clearly laid out on a retrospective rewatch. We have a lot of season 3 left to go, and a lot of reveals are still yet to be… revealed, likely ones that will be just as surprising as Nate’s downfall was but will, like Nate’s arc, have had just as much subtle set up. Set up like referencing Shakespearian romantic comedies, or building up the idea of wishes at 11:11, or references to unconventional families, or drawing parallels between one relationship and another, or slowly introducing more queer concepts into the show, or referencing one of the most famous romantic drama movies of all time, or—you get the gist. No one can say for sure whether Tedependent will become canon, but it’s undoubtable that the setup is there. Whether the show will actually have the balls to go for it... only time will tell.
Thank you for reading :)
Before I go... In no particular order a huge thank you to @thedanceronthestreets, @crenttrimm, @garaksrod, @firefam, @mandiffe, @wrong-energy, @ishouldbedoingalright and @strawberryswords (as well as others I've probably missed!!) tysm for listening to my delusions and sharing all of your own <3

A list of Dan's supernatural visitors
... for future reference, featuring some of my thoughts
The Shadow
Tumblr media
visible to: Dan, Nai
following Dan since the death of his mother
appeared malevolent at first, but has also become a source of comfort for Dan
To be answered: what was the shadow's intention when it trid to drown Dan?
✨monsterfucking✨
Trin
Tumblr media
appears to: Dan, Nai, Anan (,Master Joe?)
his hauntings clearly have a purpose; he only haunts people who he has some sort of connection to... what is his goal?
like Dan, he had a closer relationship with Brother Anurak
seems to have the ability to influence the physical world: He gives Dan back the ring he lost. And his pig's mask was missing for a year before Dan found it, so that might have been his doing.
Two boys in the fun house
appear only to Dan, on either side of the mirror & start screaming
do they know Trin? It seemed as though he lead Dan to them deliberately...
Three dead girls
Tumblr media
visible only to Dan
laying around a broken plaster cast of Laocoon*
drawings on the classroom wall are painted over with red
same white shirts but different bottoms; maybe St. Mary's students?
One-armed prisoner
Tumblr media
former boxer, lost his arm during his time in the navy
"sold himself to homosexual millionaires" who overdosed on drugs -> he went to prison
got lots of letters while in prison
was executed
are the drawings in the vision done by him?
the only ghost that doesn't seem to be linked to the school (so far)
honorable mention: Dan's father
Tumblr media
mostly part of Dan's dreams
visits Dan in the waking world once, also visible to Nai in that moment
will he continue haunting Dan now that he's dead? We'll see...
I will probably update this list once new episodes air.
*not sure if the Laocoon is supposed to mean something (the statue is very well known, so probably not), but it wouldn't be the first time greek mythology is referenced in the show

Hey. You mentioned once, in one of your answers that you would be lying if you didn’t mention that you think a relationship between a female and a male has a certain special energy about it and i wonder if you’d mind to elaborate on that a bit? I want to follow up on your thinking
love to you, only love
hey angel. sorry it took me so long to reply to this but honestly i was scared to touch on the topic out of the fear that what id say would get misconstrued/become ammo for damaging arguments. i think before i answer i have to put the nature of the response i gave in context. the individual whose question i was replying to was basically asking me if i thought there was a basis for homosexuality being a mental illness/defect, rather than a valid form of relationship/interaction, due to the fact that humans are wired to procreate and preserve life, thus not doing so = being defective.
as someone queer, whos been raised in an african & catholic household, ive had my fair share of grappling with my own sexuality. my point was less about hetero relationships having a 'special' energy, and more to do with fleshing out my own struggles with my sexuality, how i came to grips with it, and as a consequence how i now think about relationships and the role that sexuality / romantic union plays in the role of our larger human purpose.
now this is super reductive because it uses gender and prescribed societal roles to explain a situation where honestly, i dont think gender matters. imo people are just people, and love is just love. but for the sake of presenting the point i was trying to make metaphorically : lets say a man is represented by a line, a woman is represented by a circle, & a non binary person is represented by a square. a man (line) and woman (circle) come together and create a triangle (the symbol for the conjoining of two opposites and creation of a child). in creating this triangle they may have created something two circles cant create, two lines cant create or two squares/a square and *insert either* can or cant create. that capacity for creation is specific and unique particularly in its ability to draw in and anchor life into this world. spiritually speaking, the conjoining of those forces creates a specific energetic blueprint, that cant be replicated, and that has great value. it literally opens a portal that creates life and anchors it on earth. when i say it cant be replicated what i mean is — e.g, when i was with my ex it broke my heart that id never be able to carry a child that was genetically both hers and mine. —NEVERTHELESS! children are not the only things that human beings birth!!! whilst a line and circle can create a triangle, two lines together can create a cross! two circles create a toroidal field! two squares a rectangle or even (diagonally placed) a star! each has a spiritual signature/blueprint, and thus its own value and ability to create something unique.
— the central and most important point i was trying to make being: not everyone has the same desires, the same role to play, or the same purpose. we're not here to learn/enact the same lessons. nor are we here to teach the same lessons to others as the next person can teach. so whilst one person may find value in exploring the path of creating a triangle, there is equal value that can come from creating a star. love, tolerance, empathy, compassion, peace, joy, harmony. these are also things human beings can give birth to and cultivate. without those qualities, what kind of world would those children be born into? if there is a god (the notion original anon was grappling with) i can imagine it would find value in challenging us to be more tolerant and more loving. not simply for the sake of making mini extensions of ourselves, as beautiful as that must be, but in order for us to love and truly see the nature of all things in creation around us. how can someone be loving of the earth & whats in it or tolerant of the difference they find once they explore it, when they cant expand their mind to conceive of a man loving another man.
do you get where im going with this? idk. i hope it makes sense. its 5:32am -_- lol. gonna sleep. love u too <3

my tagging systems (??)
Ok I felt as if I should explain how I tag my posts here and how I'll tag them from now on.
For trigger warnings, I simply tag #tw [trigger] and sometimes #[trigger] and/or #[trigger] tw. For example: #tw slur, #slur, #slur tw
For fandom posts, when reblogging, I simply tag the acronyms (EXAMPLE: for Sonic The Hedgehog I tag #STH), there may be exceptions then and there (for Jackson's diary for example, I just tag #jacksons diary, and #jd). I tag all webcomics with #webtoon, even if they're not from or on webtoon,
Anything related to neurodivegence is tagged as #nd.
Any post I make related to music, is tagged with #music.
For Sonic, I'll just tag the characters by their single names (like for knuckles the echidna I'll just tag #knuckles). For any duos (platonic, familial, romantic, doesn't matter), I'll tag "Character A & Character B "(example: #sonic & shadow), character a will be the character that was released before character b. sometimes I might tag character a & character b & character c. For teams I'll try and tag them too with "team [__]". EXAMPLE: #team chaotix. For ships in a specific romantic context, I'll tag "character a x character b" (example: #espio x silver), the same rules apply for the other duo tag system. If the characters in question came out at the same time, I'll tag either with both "character a &/x character b" and "character b &/x character a", or whoever's name comes first in alphabetical order, I'll put them first. (Example: #shadow & maria AND #maria & shadow, OR ONLY #maria & shadow) . This is all very new though so I'll have to go back and edit quite a few tags
general tags I use are #ehlp (for posts that invoke a sense of laughter in me), #mecoded (for posts I can relate to), #others art (by art it can be any form of artistic expression, it'll mostly be digital drawings though), #my art and #toki drawz (Ii haven't implemented the latter tag to all my art posts as of yet, though ), #toki rambles (I often forget to tag that though), #gay screenshot collection (for "evidence" of fictional homosexuality or general queerness, doesn't even have to be in screenshots), #asks (might make a new ask tag in the future ..? Y'know. A cooler one??), #writing advice & #drawing advice (self-explanatory), #intro post for anything related to introducing myself, and probably more I forgot.
Any of my posts that made it to be absolute top are tagged as #my top posts .
#into the rosyverse, #tmf religious lore, #freakblr color/colour war, #🐀🥚 or just general #freakblr (it's chaotic as it is and I love it) are all full of incoherent shit related to freakblr I love.
#ultra chaos knuckles is a tag for a super form I made up that is created by the use of the master emerald OR uncontrolled chaos emeralds/chaos energy (haven't decided yet). I don't think knuckles would like to use this form at all but I already explained all of that in that tag.
#ghost!Sunny AU is full of incoherent rambles about an OMORI au similiar to OMARI, but the focus is still on SUNNY and how he experiences his perspective of the story. (I intentionally made the description vague cuz I don't want to reveal any spoilers)
#carla and silvia involves occasional posts about my OCS, Carla and Silvia that I barely every talked about on the internet, but trust me there's so much to say about them.
#serbposting for, well, serbposting!
#animalsss, is for guess fucking what. and #>:] is a tag for evil purposes only. mhm.
When I talk about a social media or it's userbase, I usually tag the social media in question.
#house design inspo also exists though I never use it. or was it #home design inspo
I think that's all for now, I might've forgotten some shit

What do you think gay men are attracted to in men that they can’t be attracted to in women?
It can’t be anything about femininity or masculinity obviously. That’s both sexist, and cultural so can’t be what drives men-only attraction.
It can’t be anything about stated identity because someone could lie just as easily as they could tell the truth in such a statement, and it makes no sense because homosexuality and heterosexuality exists in other species with no stated identities. It’s not like other animals without gender are all pan.
Saying idk it’s the vibes or some indescribable trait men have that women can’t but “I can’t explain” is a nonanswer.
Soooooooo what is it? Or do you think any sexuality but bi/pan is just cultural performance or an identity rather than an inborn orientation?
- [ ]
Oh this one's easy, you're confusing the concept of a category as a useful way to separate out semi-differentiated blobs when communicating with other humans with categories that are fundamental to reality. Continents are categories of the first kind ("We call this blob of land Europe, and this blob of Asia, but that one the Americas because they're connected" "But they're not disconnected! Why not call them Eurasia?" "Because that's what everyone else calls them.") and Particle Physics has categories of the second kind ("This one is a proton because it has these properties, this one is called a neutron because it has these properties", and no proton has neutron-like properties)
Sexuality is a category of the first kind. When a woman asks a man on a date, and he says "Sorry, I'm gay." this isn't meant to say that he can strictly define what is and isn't a man, and then is attracted to all men and no women; It's to say "I'm not a potential partner for romance." (It also functions as a way to soften a rejection; "You're just not attractive to me." is harsher to hear than "I'm just not attracted to the category of person you are.", even if for practical purposes they have the same effect in the moment.)
Like, it's not like you can open up a person's metaphorical object instance and see the "ATTRACTION" parameter inside set to either "gay", "straight", "bi", or "ace"; its more that a wide variety of things that make up a person can be attractive or unnattractive. Alice likes Red Hair and short height and this angle of cheekbones and this kind of voice, and that kind of humor, thousands of facts about a person, all of which influence whether or not she's attracted to them. And if you looked at all the idioscynratic ways every individual on earth has attraction, if you could see that 10-dimensional vector space, you would not find clear sharp delinations. Just big blobs that you can sorta cut around.
I do think you could see semi-obvious places to draw your categories, if you wanted to, the same way you can look down from space and see the isthmus of Panama and go "Oh, we should call those two seperate continents, that's a good place for one to end and another to start". I suspect a big category of traits you could call "masculine" and a big category of traits you could call "feminine", but you're not going to get easy categories like "Men who only like masculine traits" or "Men who only like people who define as men" without any overlap or weird edges. There are going to be people who like mostly feminine traits that also like beards, or wide shoulders, or being able to gut a fish or whatever.

I see you reblogging Johan stuff so what about you do that character ask game you did days ago but this time with Johan if not too late. ✌🏾
OMGGG YES! First of all, thank you so much for the ask, of course it's not too late and of course I'd love to share my thoughts on Johan ❤️
Sexuality headcanon: Homosexual/gay, I've tried seeing him as pan or bi but for some reason I can't see Johan with any girl at all, so homosexy it is.
OTP: LIGHT YAGAMI X JOHAN ❤️
Tumblr media
Source
I mainly ship them because their dynamics would be so interesting. If they team up, no one would be able to stop them, not even Near and they would definitely defeat whoever comes after them. I also like the idea of Johan subtly manipulating Light to guide him the way he sees fit, but very subtly so that Light doesn't notice. Meanwhile Light would think he has the upper hand and that he's manipulating Johan instead but we all know it's the other way round. Of course manipulating Light would be difficult because the guy is brilliant and a very skilled manipulator himself but Johan knows how to do it without the other noticing 🤷‍♀️ also Light has a big ego, and many flaws that Johan can exploit for manipulative purposes. (Shout out to my probably only fellow Light x Johan shipper @captainhysunstuff, go check her Light x Johan drawing!!)
But if you're asking about Monsterverse then Johan x Christof. I love those 2 devils together, the devil and the devil's apprentice, delicious ❤️ But I also ship them because:
They were both the only ones who survived Kinderheim 511 so they can trauma bond about that and they are somehow alike in their manipulative and sneaky techniques.
Johan killed the people who were posing a threat to Christof and Christof possibly funded Johan's plan too.
In the wiki, it was mentioned that Chirstof may have put himself in that powerful position so that someday he can meet Johan again (I bet Christof must have been dreaming of his reunion with Johan all those 10 years they were apart, he has a massive crush on him, I smell it 😂)
When Christof came home he called out for Johan, this makes me think he's used to having Johan around, he even said "Where were you Johan?" in a very casual manner, which makes me think they are familiar with each other. I bet they may have lived together for at least short periods of time after their reunion and you can't tell me nothing happened between them meanwhile 🤷‍♀️
They both possibly killed that man known as The Baby, so they have potential for murder husbands 😂 Do you need more reasons to ship them?
BROTP: Johan and Anna/Nina, the twins ❤️ and I completely subscribe to the idea that Johan did everything for her! (For a better explanation of it read @xprincessgarnetxvi's interpretation and watch @leovoid's video)
NOTP: Johan x Roberto I suppose 🤷‍♀️
First headcanon that pops into my head: Johan and Christof did the nasty when they met in that hotel room, I imagine Christof was like "Hey Johan, you won't believe what I did! I just manipulated that man exactly like you taught me!" And Johan would feel so proud of having that very good apprentice that he'd decide to reward him 😂 (if you know what I mean)
Favorite line from this character:
"Hatred is created when people gather. I just poured a little oil on it."
"Tell me what do you think is the ultimate fear? I really though that I'd already reached the darkest of the dark, but then, ahead of me, I beheld a darkness even greater still."
One way in which I relate to this character: Oh boy, this is about to get serious yet again. I suppose I relate to his feeling of void and to the frustrating sensation of wanting to feel more in certain situations but something blocks it. It's a very uncomfortable sensation. Johan became like that due to severe trauma and abuse (of course in my case the trauma is not as bad as his but I can see why he became like that: the brain creates a block, a disconnect as a defence mechanism). As for me, I'm just usually numb in my day to day and the only things that break that numbness are my S.O. and my fictional favorites. In Johan's case what breaks his numbness is his twin sister ❤️ This makes me feel empathy for him and at the same time it makes me feel conflicted for feeling empathy for someone who committed all those atrocities. But I can't help it, when I see him, I see the child who was broken down to believe he was unwanted and unloved crying for help. He wasn't born like that, he was broken down intentionally by some monsters. I could see he realised he wasn't born that way when he told Capek: "The monster inside of me wasn't inside of me, it was outside". No child should be broken down and no child deserves to go through that. But of course this doesn't mean I justify what he did, nothing can justify him. And I also feel for his victims, specially the children, please Johan leave the children alone. Moral of the story: provide children with love and safety when growing up, otherwise they will become broken adults or monsters in the worst cases.
Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: His complete disregard for his own life.
Cinnamon roll or problematic fave? Problematic fave all the way, he even gets compared to the devil 😂
And last but not least, a couple of Johan songs because I can:

thoughts I’ve had about the moonshine mob because I need some place to hold and drop them at the same time . i am posting this as a means of intense distraction purposes after spending a few nights putting stuff in here so bear with me
- I keep imagining the lot of them to the old “Mad Tea Party” videos by Brandon Rogers. I can’t tell you why this started everything else just falling to pieces in my head but this is what started it . Namely one image in my head that I absolutely have to draw of “YOU’RE HOMOSEXUAL, STOP IT” @ snail announcer and anteater
- same vein as that ^ “i’m making copies-- move, I’m gay” is how I’ve been characterizing the snail.i nmy head. so do with that what you will
- Is anyone going to make a comparison between Lightbug and Jessica Rabbit or am I going to do it . Because I keep imagining her to be just like Jessica Rabbit and the thought WILL NOT leave me. Want so badly to see lightbug to “Why Don’t You Do Right?” it would be so good it kills me
- In all the thoughts I’ve had thus far there’s been at least three (3) of the fly goons . I like to think they are brothers. Why? Reasons
- OH And the recurring thought that I’ve been obsessed with all morning. So whenever I see a spider/tarantula character I always end up sitting here like “oh my god the peets” because tarantulas have such good peets. bitches have paws. So what I’m getting at is that Spider Mobster
Tumblr media
Peets. He’s got em. And not only does he got peets, but I see them as an inside joke in the mob . he came in one day missing a shoe and the peets were spotted, so from that day forward should he ever lose a shoe ever again everyone has to point out the fuzzy wittle paws on the big scary spider and he gets so mad
-  caterpillar is the straight man to these bunch of losers . only man around here with logical thinking going on but in the sense that he’s part of a bootlegging group and stills responds to threats of crime with “what! but that’s illegal”
- this image but everybody does this to snail . regularly

After hours, I finally finished some Pride Headcanon Drawings for Pride Month! It was also good practice to figure out a good portion of the studio’s color palettes, despite some Technical Difficulties I had-
(headcanons under cut)
Technically, a good portion of these terms would not be used in the 30s-60s, a lot of them being particularly more modern terminology, but it was fun regardless to figure out, potential historical inaccuracy aside.
-Allison is a transwoman with an interest in men, while Thomas isn’t sure what he’d consider his sexuality. It doesn’t matter much to him in the end because he loves Allison, and that’s all he cares about. (Broadly Queer, because he had feelings for her prior to her coming out)
Linda is Aro-Ace, and is married to Henry for Visa Purposes. They also co-parent, since they do genuinely like kids. In more modern terms, Linda is Henry’s Queer Platonic Partner.
Joey is homosexual-aromantic. I look at him and think he doesn’t really Want nor was interested in romance per-say.
Wally is Pansexual, Shawn is Gay and Grant is currently Questioning his entire life with these bozos. Polycule, though Grant isn’t sure where he stands in it (and like he has time to ponder the details of his sexuality and relationship status)
Norman, Aro-Ace King. He’s more then content kicking back and not involving himself in that way.
Sammy is a transman, as well as being biromantic and demi-sexual (he really needs to warm up to and trust someone before he even Considers that)
Lastly but not least, Henry is Bisexual! He’s fairly 50/50, but does have a bit more preference for guys. His gaydar is busted, so Linda, as his friend, acts as a substitute Gaydar (she never told Henry Joey had a crush on him despite seeing it Miles away)
I didn’t have any real headcanons for Susie, Jack or Bertrum, these are the only concrete headcanons I have, so they aren’t here unfortunately. Maybe in the future though.
Also I do ship Senry so that doodle was entirely self indulgent pff

tell me your pip headcanons and/or clyde :3333
Why not both?
For Pip:
Sexuality Headcanon: Gay, no doubt about it. Idk where else to put this but an interesting tidbit is that in the 19th century left-handedness was a sign of homosexuality, and Pip uses his left hand as his dominant hand a lot in the show, so make of it what you will.
Gender Headcanon: Cis, never really thought about it tbh.
A ship I have with said character: Bip, my soon-to-be 9 year old OTP, aka Butters x Pip. I have a lot to say about this ship but I'll make it brief. This ship, while seemingly saccharine on the outside, is extremely bittersweet not only in a meta context(Butters indirectly killed him not only in a meta sense, but also in being the first one to draw attention to Tom Cruise in 200), but in-universe as well, in the sense that even if they get beat up,insulted or abused, they still have each other, but how long until Butters realizes he wouldn't be getting so much mistreatment if he wasn't dating Pip in the first place? How long until Pip lets Butters take his repressed anger out on him because "there's no other way", or maybe he'd let him do anything because he's that desperate for attention, any kind of it?There's just a lot of things you can do with it and you could nurture it into a good ending against all odds or a gritty grimdark ending. Also it'd be funny to see Butters' parents react to seeing him date a more passive version of him.
Besides Bip though,Cartip aka Cartman x Pip is just a very entertaining ship for me, purely because their scenes together have a lot of dom/sub tension to them and also for its comedic value.
A BROTP I have with said character: Pip and Dougie are a good pair and it'd be fun to see what interests they could have in common, but it's super weird that they didn't interact once in Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub, though that's probably because Dougie's kind of a third wheel in that episode. Pip and Stan might be very unlikely and Stan wouldn't want it for the life of him but I can see it as a one-sided thing.
A NOTP I have with said character: I really don't have one I think?
A random headcanon: His parents were killed in a home invasion by a frenchman, which is why anything french related is a trigger and why he hates french people so much, to him they took away his one chance at having a decent life, though he doesn't remember that his own parents hated him too. Also it'd be super funny if he was a Barbra Streisand fan so yeah.
General Opinion over said character: Pip's tied with Butters(my opinion on him is pretty complicated though) and Dogpoo as my favorite characters, so there's a lot to unpack here. He's a repressed Victiorian orphan child put into an uninhibited 90s setting, someone whose purpose is to be really cringe and annoying, but on the other hand the cringiness is what makes the gimmick with him funny, how deep can the cringe go and how much will his abuse escalate, and what does he truly think about it?(tbh this entire gimmick with him would most likely culminate in death so that was pretty obvious in hindsight)At the same time there's a sense of pity or worriedness about him as well, and it's really nice when he actually has friends who like him back in Butters and Dougie. In terms of his death it's so inconsequential and blink and you'll miss it that I normally don't think about it much when analyzing him, but ig it's interesting to think about where he'd go after dying?(the obvious fanon answer would be Hell, but Heaven was recruiting more people in season 9, but also his death was unnatural so maybe Limbo?)
Now onto Clyde:
Sexuality Headcanon: I'd say Bi but knowing Clyde he'd label himself as Questioning or Heteroflexible for a very long time.
Gender Headcanon: I view him as cis though maybe he'd question his gender identity too?I could see that but can't pinpoint exactly what he'd question himself as, maybe agender idk.
A ship I have with said character: Cryde, I'm really a sucker for "doppleganger" ships so this one fits the bill, but also if you look deeper into it you'd see that amidst the superficial similarities they have a lot of differences too. Also I really just love the bro vibe they'd give even after they'd start dating, they seem like they'd just be super chill together and wouldn't have many worries about big arguments. I think both of them could also benefit from one another?Clyde would let his insecurities go after he sees that Craig has no problem with how he actually is, and Craig'd probably like being with someone who doesn't mind being mundane.
A BROTP I have with said character: Cryde again, for the bro energy that I mentioned above, but also Twyde, they can be conspiracy bros together and talk about how the government wants to control everyone, though Tweek would be on the more supernatural side(like the Underpants Gnomes) while Clyde would go for the more sci-fi side(he didn't believe in supernatural zombies existing but had no problems believing Covid and QAnon conspiracies).
A NOTP I have with said character: Nobody really, at this point idk if I have NOTPs anymore lol, but Tyde when used just for the "Pair the Spades" trope maybe? But that's just how I feel about people doing Pair the Spades in fics in general.
A random headcanon: Even though Clyde is a naturally emotional person, his mom's strictness over rules made him supress said emotions and indirectly made him ashamed of being emotional and not the Cool Popular Guy he wanted to be(that and probably toxic masculinity in general). Because of this, he idolizes Craig, especially his attitude and coolness, and he's his ideal on what the Cool Popular Guy should be, so even though he had his own brand of deadpan and snark before, he started to imitate Craig's mannerisms more in an effort to seem cooler.
General Opinion over said character: Even though he's kinda inconsistent in the show, Clyde's a pretty interesting character to talk about and analyse on, I like him a lot though my interpretation of him is probably more of an Outsider Artist's view on things. For me, he's someone who is more middle of the road academically and socially, not that smart but not that dumb either, and even though he can be easily misled into a fall from grace and said downfalls might cloud his judgement until someone knocks him out of it, he's normally not ill-intentioned. However, he often lets his insecurities and self consciousness get the best of him, so he's at his best when dealing with said issues(Lice Capades is definitely my favorite Clyde episode).

Hey !
I just saw a Patrick Hockstetter in church clothes, and, I thought it was good, but I was a little annoyed with what the person wrote around the drawing. (It doesn't fit the Patrick I imagine)
Do you have any headcanons about Patrick forced to go to church with his parents?
I love how you write him, and I think you're the person who got Patrick the best 👌
This is so sweet, I'm so flattered and happy you think I write Patrick best! I do my best. I love seeing fanart and seeing different ways people view Patrick is pretty cool.
So HC's of Patrick being forced to go to church every Sunday:
*there is a bit of dubcon sprinkled in*
Patrick grew up with his parents dragging him to church every single Sunday morning. It was aggravating at even a young age, he hated it.
He felt like everyone who went to church willingly were incredibly stupid.
His mom always made him wear uncomfortable dress clothes that he would literally strip off his body the moment they got into the car to drive home. Even when his mom yelled at him to wait for 5 minutes since they lived close to the church.
The kids who went to Sunday school with him were terrified of him. He would hurt the other kids and threaten them to never say a word.
He hated the singing, his mom would sing in the choir and he could always hear his mom over everyone else. (That is me projecting here, my mom sang in the choir and I could always hear my mom's voice over everyone else's)
After Avery was killed, the Hockstetters skipped church for a month which Patrick was quite pleased with. He was so sure he never had to go again but when the pastor made a visit to their home, he convinced them to start going again much to Patrick's distain.
Once he was old enough to pick out his own clothes he would wear black ripped skinny jeans with chains, black tshirts with some form of Satanic prints, and a flannel shirt. His parents could never get him to change, every Sunday was a fight about his outfit of choice.
When Patrick became a teenager and was forced to go to youth group he started vandalizing, any bible he found, he'd rip all the pages out or write vulgar blasphemous things inside for someone to find.
He began harassing the other boys as he started feeling curious and having sexual urges. Especially one Richie Tozier. He was always Patrick's favorite to harass.
He managed to get his first blowjob while the church service was going, the day the lesson was on sexual impurity and homosexuality. He wanted to give God the finger and when he cornered a guy a year younger than him that he had convinced to fool around with, he got to fuck someone's mouth for the first time and he came when he heard the pastor yell that homosexuals were condemned to hell.
Patrick tried to burn the church down multiple times, even injured the pastor one time but he managed to escape the fire with only a few burns.
When overnight trips in the youth group would happen, he would always pick Richie as his buddy to stick with and sit with on the bus. He loved watching the trashmouth squirm and a few times when the bus ride was long, he would share one of his earbuds with Richie and they would listen to music. They never spoke of it.
Patrick would swear and take God's name in vain on purpose every Sunday, he loved seeing the women clutch their pearls and the men look at him in disgust.
He got the youth pastor sent to jail for having sex with him. He seduced the man for months, knowing the guy liked teenage boys even though he was married with a wife and kids. He finally pushed enough to make the man cave and Patrick filmed the entire thing and then played the video for the entire congregation to watch in horror.

I’ve had many young people over the years claim that if I really believed the Bible, I would be obeying all the Old Testament laws!
Though there are more Bibles, study aids, churches, Christian bookstores, television and radio programs, and schools than any other era in history, our young people are incredibly biblically illiterate. Many don’t know what the Bible teaches or that the Bible is the grand narrative pointing to the person and work of Jesus Christ.
As I’ve spoken across America and other parts of the Western world, read research and atheist writings, and answered questions, I’ve noticed a common stumbling block that comes up continually. Most of the younger generations of biblically illiterate young people do not understand the purpose and place of the Old Testament. They’ve never been taught how to properly understand and apply the first thirty-nine books of the Bible, especially the ones dealing with the Mosaic covenant and law.
Because they lack a proper understanding, many in the younger generations will accuse the church of being hypocritical for what they perceive as following some laws and not others.
We hear accusations such as, “So you think homosexuality is wrong, but does that mean we should kill gay people? (Leviticus 20:13)” and “Why do you wear clothes made from two different kinds of fabric since Leviticus 19:19 says not to?” These young people don’t understand the role of the OT because, to them, Christians seem to pick and choose which laws they want to obey. When pastors use Old Testament terminology such as “come to the altar,” “anointing with oil,” or even “the Ten Commandments,” they reinforce in these young minds that Old Testament laws should still apply but that Christians can simply ignore the ones they don’t like.
Now there’s nothing wrong with using Old Testament terminology to communicate truth. After all, the Old Testament is a foreshadowing of what was to come in Jesus Christ and is a vital part of and foundation for our theology. Indeed, New Testament authors not only quoted from the Old Testament and referenced its history, but also frequently pointed their Jewish readers back to Old Testament themes by using words and motifs from the former writings:
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present yourself as living sacrifices." (Romans 12:1; see Psalm 50:13–14)
"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God." (Hebrews 4:14; see Leviticus 21:10–15)
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." (James 4:8; see Psalm 24:4)
What the New Testament writers understood was the importance of knowing your audience. If a writer was penning a letter or a gospel to a largely Gentile audience that didn’t have much knowledge of Jewish customs or the Old Testament, he would avoid using Old Testament terms and motifs or would explain them carefully. If he was writing to a largely Jewish audience, he could easily use references to the temple, sacrifices, priests, or Jewish customs and feasts because his audience would have the foundational knowledge to understand what the writer was communicating.
In a sense, the West used to be a “Jewish” audience. In days gone by, even many unbelievers knew biblical history, believed in a Creator God, and largely believed the Bible had at least some authority. If a pastor referenced something from the Old Testament or used a clichéd phrase with Old Testament connotations, the audience understood what was meant. This is not so anymore. Even many of the younger generations who have grown up in the church do not know the Old Testament except perhaps a few scattered accounts such as “Daniel in the lion’s den” or “David and Goliath.” Essentially the audience is no longer “Jewish” but is “Gentile” in their knowledge and thinking.
So how do we effectively minister to a Gentile audience? Well, first we need to help our audience understand the purpose and place of the Old Testament, particularly the Old Testament law. The Old Testament provides the history that the New Testament is based on. It points out our sinfulness, hopelessness, and desperate need for a Savior.
In Genesis we learn that God created a perfect world, but Adam and Eve chose not to obey God’s command and marred the world by their sin. Their children likewise chose disobedience, as did their children after them. Eventually the world became so wicked that God judged it with a global flood. Only righteous Noah and his family survived. But, just a few generations later, mankind rebelled against God again. Eventually God chose a covenant people, Israel, for himself and gave them his law. They failed to live by it time and time again. This pattern of failing to keep God’s law repeats itself throughout the whole Old Testament. The history of mankind and the nation of Israel clearly show that we cannot keep God’s commands and laws on our own.
With this backdrop, the New Testament teaching of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ makes sense. Salvation is by faith alone (Ephesians 2:8), in Christ alone (Acts 4:12), because sinful human beings have fallen short of God’s law (Romans 3:23) and can never keep it. So Christ kept it for us (Matthew 5:17). What we could never do on our own, Christ did for us because it’s impossible for us to earn our own salvation (Ephesians 2:9). Throughout the Bible we see the unfolding of God’s plan of salvation that culminates in the person and work of Christ. It’s about Jesus from beginning to end!
The Mosaic Law—the law that was given to the Israelites under the Old Covenant—does the same thing as the history of the Old Testament. It highlights our inability to keep God’s commands. The law served as a “tutor” to lead us to Christ (Galatians 3:24) by showcasing our sinfulness (Romans 3:19) and showing us what sin was (7:7). The Law was also designed to keep Israel completely separate and distinct from her pagan neighbors (Leviticus 20:26). Some laws which seem strange to us—such as not mixing fabrics or types of crops—were designed to emphasize the holiness of God (Leviticus 19:2) and the need for Israel to keep herself separate from her neighbors (something she consistently did not do).
The sacrifice of animals and the priesthood, which were so integral to the Old Covenant, were types and shadows of Christ who was to come (the author of Hebrews lays this out beautifully in his letter). Now that Jesus has come, these types have been completely and utterly fulfilled. We are no longer under this Old Covenant (Romans 6:14). Jesus, through his death, burial, and resurrection, has made the first covenant obsolete (Hebrews 8:13) and has brought us into the New Covenant (Luke 22:20) foretold by the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 31:31). We are no longer bound by the Old Covenant—it has been utterly fulfilled and nailed to the cross. So why don’t Christians advocate stoning homosexuals and ban clothing with more than one fiber? Simply because we aren’t under the Mosaic Law, the Old Covenant, anymore. This doesn’t mean the Mosaic Law holds no value for us. The principles of the Law still offer guidance for believers and many have been carried over (Romans 13:9) and are now part of “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” (8:2). The Mosaic Law certainly has great value for New Covenant believers (15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11) but it is no longer binding to us because we are under a different covenant (Hebrews 8:6–7).
Now some people have argued that if God’s laws can change throughout history, then the Bible cannot be relied upon as an absolute foundation for morality. After all, if putting homosexuals to death was the right thing to do in Old Testament times, but isn’t now, doesn’t that show morality changes with time?
The point is that we don’t get to decide what is moral—God does, and we must submit to him and his law. His revelation to us is the only way we can know what is moral. You see, morality is grounded in the character of God, and God does not change (Hebrews 13:8). But this doesn’t mean rules or punishments can’t change.
The Old Testament, especially the Mosaic Law, seems to be a big stumbling block to younger generations because they aren’t receiving the instruction fundamental to understanding the redemptive history of the Old Testament and how it undergirds the person and work of Jesus. Therefore Christian leaders, pastors, teachers, and parents need to be careful that they’re teaching others how they should view the Old Testament and the Law as Christians under the New Covenant. Don’t avoid using the Old Testament—it forms the basis for our theology—but make sure your audience properly understands how to view it so they can grow in the knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 3:18) and in godliness.

heartless classpect continued >:)
Classpect definitions are based on both the mspa wiki page, and the homestuckexamination blog's definitions :) ;;
Gonne add a read-more thing because this is a LONG post lmao
Heartless Crew
;;
Heartless ;; Thief of Life
Thief of Life: The classpect I view as the most fitting for Heartless, tbh Not only is it confirmed by THE ABD-illustrates that Heartless steals life from the plants and creatures around him to fuel his own magic, it is ALSO confirmed that his little ghost buddies can temporarily steal the magic of their target for themselves,, pretty thief-like to me tbh
Alchemy ;; Thief // Rogue of Light/Knight of Heart
Thief // Rogue of Light: Very clear classpect(s?) for Mx. Alchemy. They know their worth, he's very open and confident about themselves, both when it comes to their magic and their identity, and their job of a performer means they draw a lot of attention to themselves, which is pretty typical of a stealer of light. I cant decide whether theyd be a rogue or thief, though
Knight of Heart: I think one of my personal favourites out of these classpects so far, a knight of Heart means ''one who serves Heart, one who serves others with/through Heart''. Alchemy is not only knowledgable of their own identity, both as a witch AND a genderfluid person, they're confident in themselves, and are very open about both aspects of their identity. Thus, its not too much of a stretch to think theyd do the same thing for others (this is also emphasised by the dubiously-canon fact that Alchemy prompted River to name her magic after herself ((and the added fact that Alchemy named his own magic after herself)).
Flint ;; Knight of Hope
Knight of Hope: A knight of Hope means ''one who serves Hope, one who serves others through/with Hope''. Flint holds his family's (tradition?? i guess???) as his core Belief, and serves his friends through what he's learned from his family. He is also seen casting doubt on certain things he disagrees with (being the dubiously-canon fighter he magic-duels when he meets Alchemy and Heartless,, who uses magic to cheat a competition) ((though that is more a Rage-bound thing,, though honestly Hope and Rage are fairly similar in the belief-related aspects of their,,,, aspects lmao)). This particular classpect is also kiiinda backed up by the fact that Flint has been described as the, (not verbatim), 'most level-headed, calm member of the group''. Rage is the aspect of negative emotions, so it makes sense that hope would be the inverse of that, being that a hopebound wouldnt let their negative emotions dictate them. So, Flint serves his friends with his levelheadedness, being the only fucking voice of reason in the group of silly little gay fictional dudes,, thus, he serves his friends through Hope :)
Eira ;; Page of Heart/Page of Breath
Page of Heart: The Page of Heart is 'one who is served heart' or 'one who serves through Heart for themselves'. It is also pretty clear that pages have a deficit in their aspect at the start of their adventure, which VERY clearly matches up with Eira in my opinion. Eira refuses to accept his magical abilities, and also doesn't know his sexuality. Throughout the adventure, he begins to not only accept and hone his magic, he also slowwwly realises that he is, in fact, a homosexual. It is also explained that Eira gained his position as a knight from his friend, the prince, that gives him a purpose, and a source of income (note: Heart is also the aspect of romance, which could tie in to his sexuality in some way)
Page of Breath: A page of Breath is 'one who is served Breath' and ''one who serves through Breath for themselves''. Breath is the aspect of freedom and flexability. Eira is given freedom from his friends, who are (obviously) accepting his magical ability, which gives him freedom in that particular aspect of his life, giving him not only a way to defend himself and his friends, but allow him to express himself in a way. This also allows him to be more flexable, as he can do more damage with his magic, or defend his friends better with an icy shield. The prince also TECHNICALLY provides him with freedom, via giving him a job that not only gets him off of the street of the kingdom he lived in, but eventually leads to him meeting the Heartless crew, which grants him more freedom.
Dopple and Glass ;; Thief of Breath
Thieves of Breath: Breath is the aspect of freedom and flexability. A thief of Breath is one who steals through Breath, or steals Breath itself for themselves. Dopple and Glass stole freedom for themselves (mainly Dopple, tbh), via,,, literally stealing things. Their flexibility allows them to accept their situation and lay low until they escape. They also steal through freedom, being able to steal and escape with (probable) ease.
River: Heir of Space
Heir of Space: Space is the aspect of creation, and the physical world, and things relating to it. An heir is ''one who manipulates their aspect for others''. River's magic is said to (not verbatim) 'affect the unseen elements in the world' (example: gravity, velocity, etc). The added fact this class is passive (group/other-oriented) ties in perfectly to the fact that River can't affect herself directly with her abilities
;;
The Jury
;;
Alastor: Muse of Hope/Lord of Doom/Rage
Muse of Hope: (Note: I am completely disregarding the gender-exclusivity of certain classes,, Sorry if thats like an issue but its just easier for me) A muse is ''one who commands through their aspect for others''. Alastor is the leader of the Jury, their main symbol of their belief(s?). He commands them to destroy things that are against their beliefs. He is not technically menipulating them with false beliefs, as it is seemingly something he genuinely believes in, and inspired the same belief in others.
Lord of Doom/Rage: A lord commands their aspect for themselves. Doom is the aspect of,,, well,,, doom, commisoration (commiseration?), empathy and suffering. A lord of Doom commands suffering and doom for their own gain. Alastor commands doom to destroy witches, who he seemingly has no empathy for, despite the fact he is a Wonder himself, being technically magical. (The Doom aspect also ties in to the fact that Alastor is a sickly victorian child lmao) The lord of Rage is one who commands rage for themselves. Rage is the aspect of,, yk rage,, negative emotions, contempt for lies and disdain towards beliefs they disagree with. A lord of Rage is one who commands these emotions for their own gain (in this case being the destruction of witches, who oppose their beliefs). (Note: I wanted to make this sickly little weirdo ragdoll wet kitten of a man one of the master classes being 1) I'm tired and wanted to make this easy for myself and 2) to emphasise how much he sould really be feared seeing as he can cancel out magical abilities)
Dock: Prince of Life
Prince of Life: The prince is the aspect of pure destruction of their aspect. They destroy their aspect, and destroy through it for themsleves. Dock's wonder works as, essentially, damage-transfer. He hurts himself and then places the harm done to himself onto his enemies. The Prince of Life destroys life both for others, and themselves. This alligns with Dock's wonder-ability, as he must hurt himself (decrease his own Life, in a sense), which he then sets upon others, decreasing THEIR life (technically). One of my favourite Heartless-classpect :),, (note: ''destroying theough Life'' could also relate to plantlife, which can be used to make poison )
Loreli: Thief of Light/Witch of Mind
Theif of Light: Similar to Alchemy, I view a possible classpect for Loreli as 'Thief of Light'. She ALSO works as a performer (iirc), being one to command attention towards herself. She steals peoples attention.
Witch of Mind: This is the classpect I view as more fitting for Loreli. A witch is one who ''changes their aspect for themselves'' or ''one who manipulates their aspect''. A witch of Mind can manipulate the minds of others, which ties into Loreli's siren-esque abilities (specifically the memory-erasure). A witch of mind can manipulate other's minds, changing or removing their memories, or influencing what they think, and manipulate Mind for their own purposes, being able to keep up a facade easily. This, I feel, suits Loreli to a tee.
Bandy: Witch of Space/Mage of Hope
Witch of Space: The active equivilent of the Heir of Space, the witch of Space manipulates Space for themselves. However, we will have to take Space more literally, this time referring to the positions of things in space. Bandy's ability of swapping objects freely for his own gain is practically perfect for this interpretation of Witch of Space
Mage of Hope: A mage is one who 'knows their aspect, or knows through their aspect for themselves' or ''one who benifits themselves with knowledge pertaining to their aspect''. A bit less obvious for Bandy, but I can kind of explain. Bandy is a morally-grey character, who joins whichever group will benifit him the most. Bandy understands what the Jury is about, he knows their whole thing and knows it will benifit him to be powerful in a group that will most likely win the favour of most people. I like this classpect :)
Diana: Mage of Breath (note: gonna be honest I fucking struggled even thinking of a TITLE for Diana lol)
Mage of Breath: A mage of breath is 'one who understands breath, freedom and flexability for their own benifit'. They understand their own freedom, and what they need to obtain it. They also understand flexability, which could be interpreted as understanding what a foe will do (which kind of ties in to her tracking ability).
Lance: Prince of Hope
Prince of Hope: A prince of Hope is one who destroys through hope for themselves, or destroys hope itself, for themselves. Lance, being the evil bastard man he is, destroys through Hope, using his belief in the Jury both as fuel for his anger and/or ''fighting spirit'', but as a crutch, using it to explain his own longing to fight (though, honestly, the latter part is kind of headcanon-y) He may also destroy other peoples Hope, making them feel Hopeless. His ability to change weapons completely in the middle of a battle makes him very unpredictable, and unable to really counter very easily, destroying the foe's Hope in winning. (Note: a Prince tends to ghost/mimic the aspect oppositve of their own. A prince of Hope might mirror a Ragebound player, for example)
and, thank FUCK, that's done good god my hyperfixations know no bounds, it seems lol feel free to add on to this, by the way! :) thanks for uh, reading this far as well /gen

Complementing the discussion on Byler, Stranger Things and Sex/Sexuality.
I'm reading this post by @icedmo , this post by @lupon , and this post by @magentamee (who hit the nail on the head); and I LOVE that there's finally a call to talk about sex and sexuality re: Byler in a natural, open manner. First of all, because queer sex and sexuality (even in teenagers) should be treated with the same openness and light-heartedness as heterosexual sex and sexuality. Teenagers have sexual desires and have sex. I should know, two classmates of mine got pregnant in the eighth grade from their same-age boyfriends.
Second, because it's not only a natural part of Byler's relationship and feelings for each other, it's also relevant to their whole story and colors every other aspect of it. Sex is not the only ingredient in their arc and probably not even the most important one, but it's the one that's largely missing from analyses, theories, speculation, etc. it's the missing piece from the puzzle.
For example, the airport scene. People come up with lots of reasons and theories about why Mike didn't hug Will, all based on emotional reasons and they're correct, but the physical reasons are basically ignored. We were all wondering why was Mike able to hug Dustin, Lucas, Hopper, etc. and I was getting all purple in the face from having to bite my tongue so I wouldn't yell that THAT'S BECAUSE MIKE DOESN'T GET AN ERECTION FROM HUGGING THEM. But he's afraid that he might have one if he hugs Will.
Considering Mike's and Will's processes re: coming to terms with their homosexuality and their feelings for each other thinking they just really really want to watch Star Wars together is not the same as knowing that, since Will is 14/15 and Mike is 15/16, there's a 100% chance that they have masturbated thinking of each other and have had sexual fantasies and/or wet dreams about each other. We have seen them check each other out a couple of times. And in Mike's case, those things happened while he was supposed to be thinking about El. Of course it brings them joy, but it also helps comprehend better why Mike feels the need to put up artificial boundaries to separate his relationship with El from his friendship with Will, and why Will hangs so much onto his childhood. When Mike says "That's because she's my girlfriend", "we're friends. We're friends" and "it's not my fault you don't like girls", he's trying to convince himself even more than he's trying to convince Will, it's him trying to rationalize and make the bad thoughts go away.
It even influences the non-sexual aspects of those processes, for example, Mike possibly (I'm not sure) keeping Will's binder under his bed in the same way that Lucas keeps whatever he keeps under his bed that Erica thinks is super gross. It's the same binder as in season 1, used for the exact same purposes. But if it's truly there, then it's safe to say that now staying up looking at Will's drawings feels shameful or guilty to Mike for some reason.
Not to mention that sex is the main aspect that plays a part in society's reaction to those feelings and a potential relationship. It's not about them playing too much DnD or dressing in too many colors. Remember when the world clowned Harry Styles for it?
