I guess it's my turn to contribute something to the @starwars-arttrade-2023
A lesson on meditation for @stealingpotatoes because world needs more of Luke's New Jedi Academy, it's a pleasant night, the burning wood crackles nicely and the Force fills them with good vibes (✿◡‿◡)
So yea I've decided to do the 'Make them comfy' prompt a liiiiitttleeee differently and, well, that's what came out!

Comparing your work to other people's is a great way to kill your joy for a thing so let me be clear and say this is not that, I am just a human person with human emotions and sometimes that means needing to be the tiniest bit petty and then moving on. You know. For your health or something.
There is a very popular cosplayer who coincidentally keeps doing the same costumes as me, and I am just the tiniest bit annoyed about it, because as is the case with many (...most) very popular cosplayers, they have a very specific, airbrushed, conventionally attractive, perfect makeup, etc aesthetic to all their photos that is. Not what I personally value in cosplay, at least. Which is fine! Different people having different approaches to costumes is part of what makes cosplay such an interesting hobby!
But it does bother me a tiny bit that the work I put into my costumes is not necessarily the kind of work that gets attention, and it does make it a little glaringly obvious when it's The Same Characters.
(Also you all know the kinds of characters I cosplay. I gravitate towards them in part because they have weird energy, not super put together attractive energy. But that's only part of my point.)
Anyways. I do not follow them on Instagram because why would I do that, but nonetheless I saw that they're apparently also doing a Laois cosplay now, which I guarantee will get lots more attention than mine. And for the most part that's fine, I love cosplay and I love doing my weird little thing and I especially love that I do in fact know other people that value the same things as me & that we have fun together. I will have a great time in my fun little costume, dressing up with my friends in their fun little costumes and I am looking forward to it. And I do not actually need likes to validate that I am becoming a pretty damn good cosplayer (whose stuff is better quality than many popular cosplayers' because I care more about craftsmanship than I do getting attention). I am even thinking pretty seriously about having Laois be my first ever competition costume if the armor turns out alright, because I think I'm genuinely getting to that level.
But it would just be kind of neat if being a weird little guy with weird little ideas who is into the hobby because I like sourcing historical patterns and materials and thinking about the worldbuilding that goes into costumes and creating neat little "in-universe" ephemera to hand out to people and all the things I like didn't always mean getting overshadowed by Instagram Perfect Attractive People.
Alas. Okay glad that's out of my system I'm normal again. I'm going to make some more chain mail.

Okay guys, hear me out:
Sea Serpent Hobie!!!
Sea Serpent Hobie who sinks any superyachts he comes across!
Sea Serpent Hobie who uses harpoon spears meant to kill him as piercings! And old anchor chains as jewelry!
Sea Serpent Hobie who attacks big commercial fishing boats that are destroying the ecosystem by overfishing
But also benign Sea Serpent Hobie, who aids those lost at sea!
Who helps smaller local fishing buisnesses with sustainable fishing
Who looks out for this small fishing community and in return they warn him whenever hunters show up in the area!
Sea Serpent Hobie who is huge but still manages to hide perfectly in the kelp forests!
Who has bioluminescence and uses it both to terrify enemies and as a way to calm down people in distress, as a way for him to signal goodwill - and to show off when he feels like it!
Who can change his pigmentation similarly to octopi to communicate his mood and feelings! Or just to blend in with his surroundings (also as a nod to the way he changes filters in the movie!)
Sea Serpent Hobie who's frequently seen swimming with whale pods- Orcas being his favourites to hang out with (they sometimes go on yacht sinking trips together)
Sea Serpent Hobie who likes to give people a show and will show off by breaching right next to unsuspecting boats
DO YOU SEE MY VISION?!??
SEA SERPENT HOBIE!!!!!!💙💙💙

ok i'm bursting at the seams to talk about this with literally anyone soooooo. here are some little things from the dragon rider au (mostly world building, some are plot points but nothing too big!). putting them under the cut so you don't have to scroll past a long post!
also, for anyone interested, this is the playlist i made for this au! pls ignore my deadname on the account
lot of this is inspired by how to train your dragon, so there are slike. some viking-esque elements included, they're not actually vikings & this is set ambiguously in fantasy-japan
Nanami's family runs a bakery. he also has a sister for no other reason than i wanted to give him one haha
won't go into what happens to bring any of this about, but: Nanami adopts & raises Yuji, Geto adopts & raises Nanako & Mimiko, and Gojo adopts & raises Megumi and Tsumiki. found family my beloved.
in my head most of the dragons look like (or at least similar to) the dragons in httyd. except satosugu's dragons, who look much more like traditional japanese folklore/mythology dragons. reader's is somewhat similar, but theirs has wings
i spent an UNGODLY amount of time researching & deciding on names for some of these dragons but i am so proud of them. i will discuss those more in detail if y'all want but i'm not gonna do it here bc it could technically be considered spoilers for anyone not caught up on the show
i played around with ages in this fic a little, so Nanami/Geto/Gojo are all in their early/mid 20s when they adopt their respective kids
there will be some background/implied ships in here besides the main one (satosugu/reader) but i doubt it'll be very much
ok gonna stop there for now before i just word vomit everything into this post lol. if you guys wanna know more just lmk!!! this has completely taken over my brain and i am so excited about it. please be excited with me i think it's gonna be really good 🥺
@peachdues thought you might be interested in seeing this but if not you can ignore it 🙈

STAR WARS without the force just feels like WAR WARS to me but in this series im here for it bc of the ripe-for-picking political exploration of the universe which has been overdue bc the prequels were over 20 years ago! and little subtle nods to the Force like "The Eye" of aldhani... beautiful!!
a star wars story without a force presence truly is muted in darkness and andor does a great great job at displaying that both narratively and visually with its somber colors, mist, shadow, pallid light and stretches of silence...
all those spaces? that dullness? that's the absense of the force and the light. no color, no sound, no happiness, no life.
& moral ambiguity for all (as the sith/empire is at peak power) and suppressing the light. so well done and not outright stated or obvious.
i think when ppl watch this show and cheer that there's "no lightsabers" they are missing the point of that decision. that the down-to-earthness, the War Wars of it, feels that way because the magic is, literally, gone. the force is gone.
which also reflects our own world.

for eden, who is still struggling with her own identity, her meaning of existence, her fate and purpose, and the everchanging role she played in the script, her saying " you are my constant. " to someone has such a deep, gratifying weight to it. this means that person is the only person so deeply rooted to her very core that no matter what had happened, what will happen after, or no matter who she was, who she is, who she might be in the future, you are the only one whose existence would not change in her eyes. to her, that statement is like a fact. so immovable and unchanging. and that makes me emotional every time i think about it.
