I feel like people are focusing too much on Gwendolyn's connection to Bouchard and missing how much she feels like a clone of Jon.

Almost everything that comes out of her mouth can be voiced by Jonathon Sims and there wouldn't be a bat of the Eye (Get it? THE eye. Not an eye).

Like, they're both interested in the climbing the corporate ladder despite the sour reputation both presumably have (Ghosts are just unpopular ig). She's uptight, meticulous, and grumpy like Jon.

Like Jon, she was promoted despite being underqualified compared to another candidate. (Alice who has been working their longer, doesn't have a gigantic backlog behind her, and has more than zero (0) friends on the team)

The only difference I can spot as of right now is that she's a lot more ready for her new position than Jon ever was, and I think that's because of Jon who I am decently convinced sent her that email.

(Mostly because it's really funny to imagine that shriveled f*** of a man named Jonah Magnus write an email. Idc if he's been doing it in boucahrd's body since the 2010's and should be able to write one with no problem, He better not be talking to my bbg Gwen)

WIP WEDNESDAY?

I got tagged by @theviridianbunny! thank you for tagging me :D I actually have wips this round so haha

So after my brain decided to implode me for a good few months :') I'm trying to pick up from where I left off and clear my backlog of comms etc. I was paralyzed by the irrational fear of not being able to draw anymore after not touching the pen for the whole summer and I'm still screaming internally a bit but I got my bearings back I think! Atm I'm working on a couple of things for friends sooo have a BunchaLines!

exhibit a: oh man this is gonna be epic. This is how my paintings usually start - Currently cleaning up the thumbnail and setting the reference lines so I can start rendering, I'm SCARED cause there's gonna be so much going on including a mantis blade and I will have to reference a lot from 3d assets too (later tho, so now I can get away with rough placement and blobs for most small items). but oh if I don't LOVE action shit. And this is also my canon ending so ty Petra for just tossing the idea at me and telling me to go batshit insane haha

exhibit b: part of a bethesda crossover wip for zinkie. The one thing I actually lose muscle memory of after eve just a week of not doing it is lineart because it's a different feel compared to painting and my arm and shoulder muscles have to be in it or it just doesn't happen. This was an inking sess I needed to readjust, with lots of different types of line. Hardcore as a first effort after being parked for so long but well worth it :'D (I can say I survived drawing my first Starfield spacesuit, yea)

Yamazaki's Short Story from Hakuoki Manyo no Shou Limited Edition Booklet (Translation)

This story is sooo cute that I got to translate it. I often wondered if Yamazaki and Chizuru are of the same MBTI type. The two of them are just perfect together.

(As for the Chinese herbal medicine, it seems that there is no need to buy more for the time being… The problem is the tools and medicines used for treating wounds and Western medicine…) 

I am completely ignorant about the tools and medicines for medical arts and Western medicine. I have no choice but to consult with Yukimura-kun.

As I was thinking about these things, I looked for Yukimura-kun, but I couldn’t find her. 

When I went out to the courtyard, I saw Shimada, who was about to go somewhere, so I called out to him. 

“Shimada-kun, have you seen Yukimura-kun? I have something to ask her.” 

“Oh, Yamazaki-kun. I saw Yukimura-kun hanging kimonos in the courtyard.” 

“The courtyard, huh? Thanks.” 

I thanked Shimada-kun and hurried to the courtyard. 

As Shimada-kun said, Yukimura-kun was in the courtyard, hanging kimonos. 

“Yukimura-kun.” 

When I called out to her, she quietly turned around. 

“Ah, Yamazaki-san, hello.” 

“Are you hanging kimonos?” 

“Yes, it’s almost the season to change clothes. I want the other Shinsengumi members to wear them comfortably.” 

“…I see.”

It is said that women tend to notice the details more than men, and I strongly feel that when I look at Yukimura-kun.

 (I also pride myself on being attentive, and I often receive compliments from the Vice-Commander, but still I can’t match Yukimura-kun.) 

As I was thinking about that– 

“So, Yamazaki-san, do you have something for me?”

 I came to my senses when Yukimura-kun asked me. 

“Ah. Actually–” 

I asked Yukimura-kun for advice on buying medical tools and Western medicines. 

“…So, if there is anything missing, I thought I would buy it on the way.” 

“I understand. I will check our backlog as soon as I finish this.”

 Yukimura-kun said so and tried to resume her work.

 “I’ll help you. It will be faster if we do it together.” 

“But… are you sure? Yamazaki-san, don’t you have other work to do?” 

“It’s not that I don’t, but it’s not so urgent that I have to do it right now. Besides, it would be better if you come with me for shopping. And we might be able to find Koudou-san on the way.” 

“Yamazaki-san…” 

Yukimura-kun looked at me with a grateful expression… 

(When I’m looked at like this, I feel… uneasy. I know she doesn’t have any ulterior motives, but still…)

 She bowed her head, expressing her gratitude. 

“Thank you for your kindness. I’ll take your word and go with you.” 

“Don’t mention it. After all, we are the ones who are forcing you to live in inconvenience. Rather than that, let’s finish this quickly. You also would like a bit more time looking for Koudou-san, don’t you?” 

“Yes, I understand–”

The moment she finished speaking, a small yawn escaped from her mouth.

 “Ah… I’m sorry! I was up late last night.” 

She apologized, looking away in embarrassment.

 “Didn’t you sleep well?” 

“I was reading the book on Eastern medicine that you lent me the other day.” 

“…You don’t have to rush to read it. I told you that you can return it anytime when I lent it to you.” 

“That’s true, but…” 

“If you’re sleepy and tired–”

 I was about to suggest canceling today’s outing, but I stopped myself. 

For Yukimura-kun, who was allowed to go out alone, she couldn’t miss the opportunity to look for Koudou-san. 

“You should take a nap over there. I’ll take care of the clothes.”

 “That’s-- too much!” 

Yukimura-kun immediately refused my offer… 

“If you go out with me like this, it will be more troublesome if you collapse on the way. Just follow what I said.” 

She showed a sad expression on her face. 

“You’re right. I’m sorry.” 

“No, I didn’t mean to blame you… Sorry, I chose my words poorly.” 

“No, it’s not like that…” 

Seeing Yukimura-kun’s expression become more depressed, I regretted my earlier mistake. 

“I know very well that you’re working hard for the Shinsengumi. It won’t hurt to take a nap. I’ll call you when I’m done, so rest over there.”

 I secretly worried that she would take my words in a bad way again, and waited for her reply. 

A smile finally appeared on her lips.

 “I understand. Then I’ll take your word and rest for a while. Thank you always, Yamazaki-san.”

 She bowed her head slightly and sat down on a bench nearby. She closed her eyes and began to doze off. 

(I didn’t do anything worth thanking me for. What is it… How nice is she?)

 I thought so, but I felt relieved by talking to her. 

(She’s good at medicine, of course, but maybe she also has the power to heal broken hearts without knowing it.) 

I thought so as I started working on the clothes that I took over from Yukimura-kun (somewhat forcibly).

Before long– I was in trouble after I finished hanging all the kimonos.

The problem was when to call out to her and wake her up. 

Probably, if I call out to her now, it would be too short a time to be called a nap.

 But if I go and do other work and then wake her up, it might be too late. 

But more than that, I can’t leave Yukimura-kun sleeping here. 

(Well, what should I do…) 

I was thinking about these things as I stood next to her. 

When I am looking at Yukimura-kun sleeping defenselessly, I feel somewhat sorry to wake her up.

 Or rather, I feel like I want to keep looking at her like this——. 

As I dwelled on these thoughts, a gust of wind began to blow.

 “Hmm… Ah… Um, how long have I been sleeping? The kimonos?” 

Yukimura-kun woke up and asked me, looking around at me and the surroundings. 

“O-oh, I’m glad you’re awake. I finished hanging the kimonos and was about to wake you up.” 

“Is… is that so… I’m sorry. I really left it all to you.” 

“Don’t worry about it. Come on, get ready to go out.” 

“…Yes!”

 She left a cheerful reply and went away.

As I watched her back, I wish I could have seen her sleeping face a little longer…

sooo it's been a week and I'm still not doing good 😬 I think it's the flu because I had pretty much all symptoms, the fever is reduced with the meds but I'm still sweating so much (I feel disgusting), I'm coughing my lungs out since 3 days, I've lost my appetite and I have zero energy. And the cherry on top is that I'm on my period! I don't think I've ever been this sick before as an adult - but heey, first time for everything 🕺

I'm sure it'll start to feel better sometime next week but I'm already picturing in my head my backlog at work and I hate it. at least I'm lucky to have my bf at home, he's been helping a lot with everything :')

I’ve been fiercely loyal to Viravos for three-two years- that’s why I had a huge backlog of fan art when I started to post here this year. But I’m also totally prepared for the ship to sink to the deep and be forever forgotten as a weird quirk of the fandom. It’s a high-risk, high-reward situation when both of the characters are aggressive, manipulative, warmongering bastards and Aaravos is basically the Elf Satan anyway sooo-

I love edgy dark ships --though I do have certain conditions that make me consider things going too far for “fun” shipping shenanigans. As we all do. but usually it’s more about how the story handles certain themes than the themes themselves--

I think Viren is the most interesting part of the story so this is not just my  shipper’s lizard brain speaking. He has so much potential, both bad and (some) good, ‘cause you all know Viren lol.

Anyway it’s always a little rough when a show comes back after a long hiatus. Everyone take care and lets be kind to the creators and to each other!

Oughhh this is such a sweet ask 😭😭😭 There hasn't been anything "wrong" necessarily - I've been struggling to get through this part of the planned story as I am... way more comfortable writing angst/hurt/comfort/more plot nonsense rather than fluff. I love drawing fluffy stuff! Struggle to write 😅

Between that and just general ~adult life~ fun times (job has been stupid, but now I've committed to finding a new one so that's given a lot of relief, after a couple other med changes for the Mental Illness I'm finally finally feeling better) I haven't been able to progress

However! I do have.......... a lot of other stuff written (both for james/Leon and me falling down the rabbit hole of wesker/Birkin and intertwining everyone between SH and RE) that hopefully once I get through this slump I'll have a little bit of backlog (tbh getting this ask has kinda motivated me to wanting to try and work on this :) )

I also literally have an entire sketchbook full of drawings and have been drawing Entire Group Nonsense that I can hopefully post? I won't promise because it's annoying to scan stuff lol so maybe I'll take some pictures if that's something you'd want to see too (I do have some stuff on here already that went to the drawings on ao3)

It also has passed the one year of drowning into this nonsense where I accidentally drug myself and @fly-rye into this. Seeing these awful unpracticed drawings is so funny and scary 🤣 with me drawing Leon with SUPER emo hair

Alright, you didn't hear this from me, and I CERTAINLY didn't hear this from a top ranger. Okay?

Word is Wendy got in trouble with the Union because of some marketing deal she had going on. She appeared in some ad in uniform, Union didn't sign off on it, whole big stink.

As 'punishment', they sent Wendy around to the lower performing chapters for inspection and assessment. Lacunosa's chapter is the lowest ranking in Unova. Their leaders a piece of work and the rangers aren't much better. Lac's chapter is basically the dumping ground for rangers that can't really be fired for whatever reason (except for Dianne and Daryl ilu).

Wendy gets here and finds a bunch of missions still unresolved. I'm talking MONTHS of backlog. It's everything from "there's a durant here" to "my kids missing." So instead of doing any leadership-stuff, or remove their jackass leader, or something, she decides they're "too overwhelmed" and should take on less missions. Nevermind the fact that most of them never FINISH any missions, but whatever. So now the chapter is refusing missions and is "working through the backlog."

It's been two months and no mission's even been cleared yet. Now Wendy's back in the Union's good graces.

speaking of Hades’ flower ring I am actually COMICALLY bad at remembering accessories AND little details for the whole Elysium cast - rearchiving the whole backlog made me realize that lmao. I’ve only just recently within the past few years made a concentrated effort in actually drawing Tory’s forearm tattoos, and even more recently than that remembered that Ty and Bel respectively wear earrings - but like, the compilation of other little things that I just. :( forget to draw??? its????? I REALLY should get better with this???? EXAMPLES-

1. Everyone should be wearing wedding rings lmfao. hello. hello. HELLO. okay I have been making an effort to draw ChalBel & Tybby engagement rings and that’s all the more reason to like aCTUALLY DRAW EVERYONE ELSE’S??? Laphi’s is a claddagh since Jesse is a mortal import 🥺 the only canon exception is Eury, whose divine occupation involves rooting through corpses and so if he wore a ring it would be. uhh lost. I do choose to believe he has one and keeps it in the mouth of the vulture shawl lol

2. Chal and Libby are CONSTANTLY giving Bel and Ty jewelry for every holiday and anniversary, I DO at least draw Bel’s black stud earrings and Ty’s white stud earrings (also gifts from respective partners!) but I only remembered that a few months ago AHHH. Bel has a necklace with one of Chal’s feathers on it - one of the old gray ones 🥺🥺 - I DID draw this many times and uhh. have forgotten since. Missing is several other bracelets including evil eye motifs. Tory makes all this for them by request :)

3. ….Also Bel’s supposed to have visible discolored scarring on his forearms??? From That Time Maci accidentally set him on fire???? yknow???🤪Somehow I’ve never ONCE drawn this and if anything else I really need to sTART dOING THIS ONE AAHH—

4. 5. BUT BEYOND THAT THOUGH Maci does have another necklace that she’s usually wearing, she actually has a divine crest emblem as a goddess it’s a narcissus on fire. Tory made a little pendant of it as a necklace and she’s SUPPOSED to be wearing that,,?? Well all necklaces fall into her cleavage so just the chain at least but hh still

Epi has a bracelet he’s supposed to be wearing that’s magically infused to help him control his uncontrollable shapeshifting in times of Extreme Emotion,…….. particularly one specific extreme emotion. or activity, rather. Prior to having this bracelet custom made, EVERY single time Epi had sex he’d shapeshift into his feral daemon form which isn’t necessarily that bad if you are into fucking daemons (and everyone is!) except daemon Epi IS prone to spontaneous mauling so it’s not even a cosmetic thing it’s just a safety thing. Eury has never cared for the record and he’s the only one safe from that anyway lmfao that uhhh. was just for the purpose of sleeping around with the rest of the palace

7. charon has full tattoo sleeves all moths and lanterns and I have never andprobably WILL never draw it it’s sooo OoOo much aaAAHHG//

8. Alena has a little snake ring that allows her to shapeshift and disguise her snake tail if she twists it! This is primarily used for the purpose of shifting topside when hunting for mortals to eat 😌

The Author of Exiles Rereads All Of Exiles Published So Far

That's right, I did it. In preparation for Book 4, I started rereading something I started writing...like...ten years ago or something. And you know what? It's pretty good! Turns out I like my stuff!

Behind the cut are a lot of rambling thoughts on each book, along with anything I might have done differently. Mild spoilers, but mostly just authorial navel-gazing.

Book One thoughts: Hey, did you know that if you're making any kind of longform work you should consider taking notes on things like character hair/eye color and background details? And also, it's good to have a beta reader? Because I don't know if I had either at the time of book one! And there are sooo many little continuity errors I noticed! They aren't things you're likely to catch unless you're looking for them, but it makes me think I want to go back at some point and not rewrite book one entirely, but just edit it a little. Fix some errors. It's still solid, and I'm pretty sure me being the author is the only reason it kind of felt like that "Spot the Errors" episode of Garfield and Friends. (Side note: If you can find it on the web, please watch the Garfield and Friends episode "Mistakes Will Happen." It's one of the funniest things ever, with far too many jokes to catch in one viewing for something that predates the internet.)

Also, it turns out that if you try to read something by downloading it in PDF form off of AO3 and putting it on your phone via Kindle, it does unholy things to the formatting. So I do not recommend reading Exiles (or anything else) like that.

Errors aside, god, this was nostalgic. One reason I started this reread was to get back into the heads of the characters, and it all started coming back to me right away. I can go oh, there's where I figured out how this would end. That's when this first comes up. Neat! Also there are some genuine accidental foreshadowing bits that lead into book three, of all things.

Book Two thoughts: Wow, this is long. It's easily the longest of the three, and I'm not sure how well the pacing holds up in retrospect. I was very much writing as a "weekly serial" rather than a novel at this point, and it shows for better or worse. There are chapters where I can tell I was just trying to get something up. Did you know if you write something with regular updates, it's a good idea to have a backlog instead of just writing week to week?

That said, this is where I started to shake off the constraints of "everything must be rooted in some preexisting fairy tale" and I think that's for the best. I started pulling inspiration from 50s pulp sci fi, Little Shop of Horrors, what people in the 90s thought VR was going to be like, and buddy cop flicks. I was figuring out my gender at the time I introduced Rem Tera, and wanted a nonbinary character whose issues were not centered around what were Nonbinary Character Tropes at the time, i.e. 'figuring out nonbinary was a thing, explaining it to others, which bathroom to use, etc.'

I also like playing with scale in unusual ways, and one thing I wanted to lean into was how to create a threatening antagonist who was a few inches tall in a world where people came in giant size. It turns out the answer is 'give him some big monsters to command and scary levels of manipulative charisma.' Lord Germain, you are the worst but I am so proud of you.

Still also very happy with the final arc, even if the story does a bit of narrative water treading to get there. This book has the most 'quiet time' with the characters, and I think in the long run it helped me flesh out the relationships established in book one and the new ones forming in book two. Especially since book three is pretty story-heavy. Speaking of! Book Three thoughts: Wow, this is like post-timeskip One Piece where one thing just leads right into another. It's unsurprising, since a lot of the plot threads laid in books one and two really activate here. Libra and Valerian have a been a presence from the beginning and Blue was hinted at as far as the Moonflower Market. So yes, I was sitting on those for a while and happy to set them off here.

No Reflection is probably the most difficult original fic work I've written so far. To give you an example, I started it too soon after finishing Of Rot and Bloom and was stalled out for years afterwards. The good news is that like any creative project that isn't made of expiring materials, you can pick a story up at any time. One day I finally decided to ditch the chapter I was stuck on, write something else and start the ball rolling again.

And it worked! I finished it. More or less. There's something of a Nona the Ninth/Alecto the Ninth "book 3 and 4 are part of a piece" feeling to the end of Book Three, but I do try to end on at least a climactic element. There are just a lot more cliffhangers this time around.

Man, I'm mean to Basil in this book and this isn't even his book! Poor guy is gonna have it rough in Book Four.

ALSO, there are at least two missing chapters, and they're important ones that reveal major plot elements. In fact, one is right in the climax. I need to fix that ASAP. Presumably AO3 lets you insert chapters? I'll figure out how.

So, what does this mean for Book Four? It means it's definitely happening, though I don't want to say it's happening immediately. Maybe after the New Year. I have some chapters prewritten for Book Four I want to revise, and this time I'm making sure I have a healthy backlog and a plot outline worked out.

For everyone who's read any part of Exiles, thanks so much for supporting me thus far! I really appreciate it. Wouldn't be able to keep up this much enthusiasm without you. And if you're thinking of writing (or drawing, or animating) your own original thing, my advice is just to do it! Just jump in. Yeah, it won't be perfect, but you'll learn by doing, and an imperfect story that exists is always better than the idealized one trapped in your head.

do u have any video games on the backlog

sooo many, I haven't been gaming at all this year. I feel like work really sapped me of my desire to game for whatever reason. I just started playing Darkest Dungeon last week but at about Week 20 I'm like "oh yeah, I remember why I always drop off this game." hen you're making progress it's awesome, but when you have a rough mission it's sooo demoralizing. I am replaying the Mass Effect trilogy with my long-distance gf in the driver's seat for the dialogue/choices while I do the shooting, which is a hoot.

BG3 and Armored Core 6 both seem worth trying, but also like they'd demand a lot of time that I'd currently rather spend on other stuff.

I never finished Psychonauts 2 even though it was really fun, I'd like to revisit it. I really wanna play through the new Hitman trilogy, they're super fun but just have so much content that I find it overwhelming. Sitting on my shelf or in my Steam library are the Insomniac Spider-Man games, God of War Ragnarok, Deathloop, Outer Worlds, the RE4 and Dead Space remakes, some adventure games and roguelikes and Metroidvanias...but aside from those remakes it's mostly games that have been out for a while that I just never got around to. I feel like there haven't been a ton of games this year that I've been super jazzed to check out despite all the big titles.
