you leave gojo in a room with a baby and trust, he will play with that baby until they fall asleep. even better if they're old enough to walk — it'll be a nonstop playtime.

if the baby waddles over to gojo and hands him a fake phone, he's gonna start questioning the ‘person’ on the phone like a police officer.

"yes? hello? who are you? for what reason are you talking to my baby?" he'll repeat questions on top of questions, pausing after the last one to make it seem as though someone's talking.

after a minute, he'll begin again, standing up with a hand on his hip and the fake phone to his ear like, "uh-huh, that's right! don't you ever call my baby's phone again."

dramatically hanging up, he'll bend over to return the phone, cooing at the doe-eyed infant and ruffling their hair.

Astarion's eyes are big and empty when he looks at you. They shine red in the light of the setting sun, and something in your heart tears with a painful sting.

You ache and you ache and you ache.

"I should have taken what I was given," he says, and he sounds so broken that your mouth can't form words anymore. "I should have taken the power that Cazador's death bestowed upon me, and I should have left. I should never have stayed for you."

Tears come without you realising, dripping down your face in a steady stream.

"It would have broken you," you whisper. You reach out for his hand, but he pulls away.

"Broken me?" The laugh that escapes from his lips is bitter and tastes stale in the air. "It could have saved me. I gave up everything- everything- because you asked me to. All my life, I never looked out for anyone but myself, and then you came along, and you changed the rules."

His fingers clench. He won't look at you, he just stares at the last sliver of red as the sun sinks down into the far horizon.

"Astarion-"

"Don't say my name like you care about me," he interrupts you, his lower lip trembling. "If you did, you would have let me be happy. But now, here we are. If I could take it all back, I would, and then I would take what is rightfully mine- all that power, the city; the whole world. And you, even if you thought I was broken. I could have taken what was rightfully mine, everything I ever wanted. And I should have. You are not worth the sacrifice I made, not here, not now. This is all. your. fault."

It feels like he hit you in the face, your cheeks growing hot from the pain of his words. He scares you, a cold hand squeezing in your chest as you look at him. He does not look like the man you love anymore.

The scars he has left on you in his ecstasy and his hunger begin to pulse.

Astarion looks at you, and the expression in his eyes that was one of love and adoration only yesterday has turned to burning hatred and cold regret. His voice rips your heart into tiny pieces until you can't breathe anymore.

"I could have had everything and I gave it up because of you. And now, this is the last of the sun I will ever see again."

he survives, but barely. the fall breaks both of his legs and gives an extremely severe concussion with lasting brain damage

as such, his recovery is slow and painful. he is eventually able to walk on his own again, but he needs the assistance of a cane, although some days are harder than others and he needs a wheelchair instead. because of this, he never fights in the army again, but thats fine bc as the emperor he wants to focus his efforts inward than on expansion

the concussion does have some long term effects. his short term memory isnt great and he suffers from migraines for a long time afterwards.

as said, he focuses on improving the empire from within. theres a lot to do now that they dont have the powers of the crystals, and hed rather start from the bottom up. one of the first things he does is help joshua (bc yes he lived too duh) restore rosaria to its former glory so they can be allies again
