Pride Month Headcanons!
So its Pride Month! And as a proud member of the alphabet mafia I wanna give my opinion on all the Danganronpa characters' sexualities! So let's go, starting with THH!
Trigger Happy Havoc
Makoto Naegi- Pansexual. I'm under the belief all protags are Pan. Transgender(ftm). So I have this whole hc that the reason his door was jammed was that the lock was quickly removed when they found out SHE was actually a HE and I just like the hc lol.
Sayaka Maizono- Straight. I just think she has a big thing for Makoto, but other than that she cares for her career more than a relationship.
Leon Kuwata- Bisexual, heavy female leaning. I ship him with Hiro, but honestly this fucker would probably take forever to admit he likes guys.
Chihiro Fukisaki- Gay. Dont really have a reasoning. Just my opinion lol
Mondo Oowada- Bisexual. He mentions trying to confess to girls, but come on. This guy is fruity for Taka.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru- Gay. This dude meanwhile is just straight homo. He's probably closeted in fear it would bring shame to his family name again.
Hifumi Yamada- Straight. I honestly dont think about the guy enough to give this enough thought, but the way he simps over Celeste proves he likes girls at least. Plus he kept calling Alter Ego she, so...yeah.
Celestia Ludenberg- Straight. Honestly I think she'd be homophobic? Idk i really dislike Celeste, sorry 😅 She just gives me those vibes.
Sakura Oogami- Bisexual. I wanna label her as lesbian, but Kenshiro exists 😒 Women leaning possibly
Kyoko Kirigiri- Bisexual. Though i dont personally ship her with any girls, I can see her going both ways.
Byakuya Togami- Gay. And it's a problem with his family, so he's closeted.
Yasuhiro Hagakure- Pansexual. He just wants to love someone, man lmao.
Aoi Asahina- Bisexual. Again, wanna label her as lesbian, but the Bad End exists, showing she willingly got with three guys. And she does ask Makoto to pretend to be her bf. But she leans heavily towards females imo.
Toko Fukawa/Genocide Jill- Bisexual. It was straight until she met Komaru. Then she realized "Oh shit. I'm gay." But she still has a small thing for Byakuya ig 😒
Mukuro Ikusaba- Straight. We pretend the thing with her sister doesnt exist, alright?
Junko Enoshima- Straight. And definitely homophobic.
Wow a lot of bi peeps lol. Alright, onto the next game!
Goodbye Despair
Hajime Hinata- Pansexual. Again all protags are Pan. Fight me, prove me wrong you literally cant.
Ultimate Imposter- Panromantic, Nonbinary, Asexual. Though I call Imposter he a lot, I think it's almost canon they're nonbinary. I just have stupid brain and type he first without thinking. I also dont really have a reason for thinking they're asexual? I just think they are. But they're probably panromantic in order to fit their talent better.
Teruteru Hanamura- Pansexual. He's so painfully pan. He even says his options are, and I quote, "pretty open." Dis bitch gay.
Mahiru Koizumi- Lesbian. Dont think I gotta explain myself.
Peko Pekoyama- Bisexual. She's totally dating Fuyuhiko, but I can see her having small crushes on other girls.
Hiyoko Saionji- Lesbian. Also dont think I need to explain myself.
Ibuki Mioda- Bisexual. RAGING bisexual. Also I can honestly see her being Gender Fluid as well.
Mikan Tsumiki- Bisexual. She honestly needs therapy more than she needs a relationship, and she probably doesnt really understand her own labels completely, but I think shes bi.
Nekomaru Nidai- Bisexual. Homeboy was a little TOO eager to be rubbed down by Teruteru 😏 Just kidding, though I do think Nekomaru is bi. No real reason honestly
Gundham Tanaka- Bisexual. He obviously has a thing for Sonia, and in a perfect world(i.e. my perfect world) he would be holding hands with Kazuichi daily. Speaking of holding hands he basically breaks Hajime's in the FTEs. Gay 🥰
Nagito Komaeda- Gay. He's very obviously gay coded, mostly towards Hajime though I dont personally ship that.
Chiaki Nanami- Pansexual. She loves everyone equally. Honestly she probably doesnt put too much work on her labels and would probably go by any pronouns as well, so maybe Gender Fluid?
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu- Bisexual. Like Leon I think it would take him a while to accept he likes guys, and he probably leans towards girls more, but he's definitely fruity lol.
Sonia Nevermind- Pansexual. Our girl fucks. She dont care who, she just FUCKS. 🤣 But seriously, I think she just sees love as love. As she should.
Kazuichi Souda- Gay. Transgender, (ftm). He's so very closeted, so badly even he doesnt recognize it. He probably even has internalized homophobia, probably because of his father. Not sure why I hc him as trans, I just think it fits.
Akane Owari- Straight. She probably doesnt think about it much. All she knows is she likes fighting, meat, and Coach Nekomaru.
Alright and onto the last game!
Killing Harmony
Shuichi Saihara- Pansexual, Transgender(ftm). Its. THE RULE. I didnt make it. Sue me. Also fuck it I dunno I think it fits with his whole character if he were trans. Hard to explain lol
Rantaro Amami- Biromantic, Asexual. I admittedly dont know much about Rantaro, but from what I do know, I think he would fit well with just about anyone. I dont have much of a reason for him being Ace.
Kaede Akamatsu- Pansexual. She was the protagonist first, so the rule still applies lol. But even beyond that it just fits her. Hard to explain, it just seems like it works.
Ryoma Hoshi- Straight, Asexual. I know on my ship list I said I shipped him with Gonta, but theres a reason that ship was so low. I heavily think Ryoma is straight. It's just the vibe I get from him. Maybe hes bi curious, but idk. As for the ace bit, it's really dark. I hc it's because of the trauma he endured during prison.
Kirumi Tojo- Lesbian. Idk I look at her and I think "Lesbian power. Powerful wlw moments." Dont ask me my brain just does things.
Angie Yonaga- Pansexual. She always seemed like she was flirting with Himiko and lowkey Tenko, and in the FTEs she straight up wants to get married to Shuichi so like....I dunno what you want me to say.
Tenko Chabashira- Lesbian. Literally no explanation needed.
Korekiyo Shinguji- Pansexual. Putting aside the....obvious....he finds all of humanity beautiful, so he most likely doesnt have a preference when it comes to choosing a partner. Just like with Mukuro we pretend that entire plotline never happened.
Miu Iruma- Pansexual. I see her as pretty open to everyone....Yeah. That's all I got.
Gonta Gokuharu- Bi-curious. Honestly I dont think Gonta knows what he is himself. He probably hasnt given it too much thought, if hes given it any. The best I can think of is bi-curious, assuming hes currently exploring his sexuality.
Kokichi Ouma- Gay. I dont ship him with anyone cause I personally think he'd be a bad partner to anyone he got with based off of his personality, but yeah. He gay lmao.
Kaito Momota- Pansexual. THE LUMINARY OF THE STARS IS FOR EVERYBODY! Probably took a while for him to admit he wasnt straight, but then he admitted it with his whole heart, precious thing.
Tsumugi Shirogane- Straight. Fuck I dunno I dont think about her in a positive light enough to care. Sorry I really tried 😅
Kiibo- Panromantic, Genderfluid, Asexual. Like Imposter, I've called Kiibo he all the time, including every story I put them in, but technically they have no gender. So that does make them nonbinary, but at the same time it leaves the opportunity for them to go by any pronoun they want, so I hc they go by all of them lol. I also think they just love everyone, and for the ace bit, unfortunately, robots probably dont have dicks 😔 Even if they did, I dont think he would be very interested in sex.
Himiko Yumeno- Lesbian. Despite her treatment of Tenko, her reaction at the end of chapter 3 shows she cared for her, and Angie. She probably loved them both, so, lesbian for sure.
Maki Harukawa- Straight. Kaito was probably her first ever crush, so I doubt she ever had a chance to feel out if she was anything other than straight. Even disregarding that, I dont think she'd be anything else.
Alright and those are my headcanons for all the Danganronpa characters! As a bonus, I think Komaru Naegi is a Lesbian! No real reason other than Tokomaru is top tier lol.
Now remember these are my opinions! If you dont agree that's fine! Just be kind!
And HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE! 🥰🏳️‍🌈

I finally make a proper sheet for ma new Tokyo Revengers boi yay (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧
Tumblr media
❅Info dumps❅
Kaito is 178 cm tall
Has broad shoulders, lol
Despite being in middle class family, he steal food for his sister and mother since he knows his mother can't fend off to him and Kirie for a long time,
Victim of domestic abuse, Kaito's biological father died in car crash and his mother date with another man, but it didn't last long as he walked out on them eventually,
His late father, Kohaku Tsuwabuki was an author, a freelance one, Kaito had his love for storytelling and writing through him,
Before Takemichi can time leap, in 2017, Kaito became Toman's swindler and gambler
He carried around his father's copper pen as a good luck charm
✤How he gets along with some of Tomans member (mostly about who he interact the most)✤
Sano "Mikey" Manjiro: Unusually playful, Mikey often steal Kaito's wagashi and cheese croquettes in any chance he gets, when that happens, a chase between them would happen earning them nickname of Toman's "Tom and Jerry" (lol) but despite that, Kaito respected Mikey and applaud him for being a charismatic and cool leader,
Ryuuguji "Draken" Ken: In-between "okay with each other" and Draken mostly uncomfortable with Kaito occasionally making up a random scene out of the blue just to mess around, mostly about him and Emma, Kaito often mused out loud about many scenarios between them just to tease Draken, as he quoted "because it's fun"
Hanagaki Takemichi: He refer Takemichi as "soaked golden retriever" at first Kaito doesn't like Takemichi for being a crybaby, but the dislike was apparently from how Kaito envied Takemichi for being open about his emotions (e.g crying) eventually he came around and enjoyed Takemichi's company (or came to like him) even became somewhat protective of him,
Baji Keisuke: After saving him from being beaten to death, Kaito almost instantly respected Baji and even join Toman to repay him, it's said that his respect for Baji outweigh his respect for Mikey,
Shiba Hakkai: Kaito simply like Hakkai for his friendly and timid personality, but after learning about Hakkai's family and siblings, Kaito came to sympathize him for having a bloodlusted brother like Taiju, and applaud him for staying strong even if he could run away if he gets a chance
Mitsuya Takashi: They both bonded over having younger sister(s) and the fact they have mother who are working women just so her children could be fed, Kaito also pointed that Mitsuya have a "peerless sense of fashion"
Matsuno Chifuyu: They became friends through Baji introduction to each others, and eventually get along quite nicely, whenever Chifuyu is around there's also Kaito with him as well, out of all Toman members, Chifuyu is Kaito's closest friend after Baji and Mitsuya, during Valhalla arc, he stayed by his side and watch as Baji switch side, he's unconditionally close and loyal to Chifuyu that one might think that Kaito's affection for Chifuyu could be more than platonic... There's a hint that both of them might have a mutual pining

🔹 RELATIONSHIP STATUS🔹:
In a relationship with Ryuga
~~~💠~~~
🔹 BIOGRAPHY 🔹:
Originally known as Gingka Hagane when he was in Koma Village at the age of eight. He encountered Ryuga by accident and brought him back to his home to get the older boy's injuries treated by his father.
Ryuga stayed with them for nearly half the year. During the time, he and Gingka became great friends. Though, the older boy tended to stay indoors and preferred not to play with others even if Gingka is there. Regardless they still had fun together.
But it didn't remain happy when the two decided to go out exploring on their own. They soon strayed to far from the village and encountered Doji, who has been looking for Ryuga ever since he ran away.
The confrontation desolves into a chase through the more rocky areas. Things turn for the worse when Doji accidentally hit one of the rocks above, causing them to come crashing down on the two children.
Gingka lost both of his legs when he pushed his friend out of the way. Later, he was taken into the Dark Nebula HQ to be treated. When he woke up, it was revealed that he had also lost his memories from the crash.
Currently, he now lives in the Dark Nebula HQ and being trained in martial arts, hand-to-hand combat, fighting with a bladed staff, butler stuff (Like cooking and serving drinks, etc) and of course beyblade.
🔹 PERSONALITY 🔹:
He seems like a calm and relaxed individual. Friendly to those he meets and willing to help those in slight need like carrying their bags for them. Loves to beyblade and would jump at the chance to do it. Another thing he loves more than beyblade is to watch beyblade fights happen, especially Ryuga's fights.
However, due to the training he received and being in close proximity with Ryuga nearly all the time, Gingka can also be rather ruthless and vicious as well especially when it comes to beyblade fights. He is willing to use dirty tactics to win during actual physical fights that involve weapons to win, especially if it's for the mission.
Gingka also hates being locked up in the HQ during his leisure hours. He yearns for the day he can go outside and enjoy the world without the fear of repercussions for it.
During his 'Work' times, he'll wear a mask and act cold and mechanical towards people. The only ones who have seen his true self so far are Ryuga, Doji and other workers in Dark Nebula.
~~~💠~~~
🔹 APPEARANCE🔹:
Has light orange hair with red on the left side, brown-gold eyes and pale skin. Usually wears a black long sleeved shirt with gold cuffs and hems underneath a dark blue high collared vest with a golden colored zipper along with a head band. Also wears white & gold shorts and a pair of light blue and gray gloves. Mechanical attachments were placed where his legs got amputated and used to attach and detach his prosthetics.
For his "Work" Clothes, he would wear black and blue form fitting armour beneath dark blue clothes. Wears a metal mask that has infrared vision and disguises his voice. His prosthetics are gray and glowing purple circuits and wires in them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~~~💠~~~
🔹SKILLS/ABILITIES 🔹:
Hand-to-hand Combat/Martial Arts: Has well developed & strong muscles. He can take on opponents much bigger than himself and has some knowledge in pressure points and aiming for them.
Spear/Staff Combat: Is well versed with this type of weapons. While looking graceful in his movements, Gingka is also fast and unmerciful as he strikes his opponents. Preventing them from making a counter attack while he's at it.
Leg Prosthetics: His prosthetics are one of Dark Nebula's greatest creations. 5x stronger than an average human leg, capable of breaking through steel with a single kick, and gives him greater endurance and speed. Of course, he can adjust his legs so that he won't accidentally send any new recruits to the hospital
Acting: Gingka is a well talented actor most of the time. Having been able to make most of Dark Nebula's wokers to trust him and let their guard around him. With him being without legs, it only adds more to the act by making others feel sympathetic to him.
🔹BEYBLADE🔹:
🔹NAME OF BEYBLADE🔹:
Kelpie Oblitus
🔹TYPE🔹:
Destabilizer
🔹MOVESETS🔹:
.Chiming Streams: This moves will cause the bey to emit an incredibly loud chiming sound that can disrupts the opponent bey's balance along with causing pain to the actual opponent's ears and scramble their thoughts. Leaving them vulnerable to attacks. The sound become even louder if the opponent's beyblade hits it.
. Depth's Embrace: Kelpie would start to spin at the edge of the arena and starts to manipulate the moisture in the air into creating streams of water that could nearly engulf the entire arena. Kelpie would then emerge in the water then fade back into it, leaving the bey nearly invisible and making it difficult for their opponent to find them. It would start to attack in all sorts of directions and fading back into the water until it can deal with the finishing blow, which could smash the opponent's bey into pieces.
. Alluring Depth: This move will result with the bey going into the center and create a powerful illusion to entrap the opponent in. There are two types, one that would show the opponent's greatest desire to entice them and one that shows the opponent's worst fear to freeze them with fright.
(Will add more later on)
Is considered one of Dark Nebula's best beyblade fighters. Being able to go toe to toe with Ryuga up until he received L-Drago. However, he is not given the title as being the second best since he doesn't fight beyblade battles often with other Dark Nebula bladers and is most often training with Ryuga instead.
~~~💠~~~
🔹 RELATIONSHIPS🔹:
♠️~~~DOJI~~~♠️
Gingka absolutely DESPISES the man. To him, Doji is the one taking his freedom away from him. However, Gingka is also terrified of Doji since he can electrocute him through the mechanical attachments on his legs and has done so when he goes "out of line" or didn't give satisfactory results. He doesn't show this and acts friendly and respectful towards Doji. But in certain days, he Really wants to strangle to man.
💜~~~RYUGA~~~💜
Ryuga and him are very close with one another. With Gingka being the only one that Ryuga actually cares about and treats him as another human being while Ryuga is the one that stuck by him always. He is deeply loyal to the older teen, willing to even endanger the lives of others or his own for him. They shared many things and are nearly inseparable.
Gingka likes to tease Ryuga often since he finds the other's reactions to be funny, while Ryuga mellows slightly with the younger teen and shows his softer side to him only. They even treated each others injuries that they got from their training.
Eventually, their friendship turned into romance. They started dating when Gingka was 12 and Ryuga was 14. So far, they have only hugged, held hands and kissed each other on the cheeks, they decided to take things slowly and keep it a tight locked secret from Doji.
Though, Ryuga is rather possessive of Gingka and dislikes it when people get too friendly with him or if he is training with somebody else, especially in beyblade battles. Often keeps a close distance with him (like keeping a hand on his shoulder) and glares at people too close even. Gingka doesn't mind this too much and kind be rather submissive towards the other and his wishes.
♦️~~~OTHERS~~~♦️
He treats his fellow workers and beybladers that work under Dark Nebula like a friend and helps them out in small problems. This attitude had led him to have a positive reputation in the HQ.
~~~💠~~~
🔹Quotes🔹:
"Hey there! The names Kaito, you're the new recruit right?"
"Just so you know, I'm not gonna hold back. So be prepared to fight and break bones."
"I wish I can just get out there...Explore places with my own two legs and see things, experience things that others wouldn't believe. To be anywhere, anywhere but here...But I can't, not as long as Doji has me on a leash. It's not all that bad though, as long as you're here, Ryuga."
"....Who the hell is "Gingka" ?"
💬 x 5 👏👏
For every 💬 I get in my inbox, I’ll post a quote from my own writing that I’m proud of!
do i even have any writing that i like –
ask // all might asked: i know it may not seem like it, but i know your father loves you very much. // big mcfreakin’ yikes for this whole drabble.
( is it love that drove him when he took his mother and USED and USED her until she broke ? is it love that drives him to push shōto until he throwsupburnsfreezescrieswantsitalltoend ? for what twisted value could love hold in endeavour’s heart – no, it could not be love. a tool he’s cultivated, an extension of himself that he cannot find weakness in – that is how endeavour thinks of shōto. there is no room in him for love. )
thread // thread with catsarefoolish where mutsuki asks yuki for advice. // mutsuki finally realising that despite him thinking he has everyone’s best interests in heart, his decisions and manipulations can still hurt people.
( desperate tears but silent ones. the kind you learn when you know no one around will care because what’s the point of crying loudly if you’re not going to get comfort from anyone else. all that had left her lips was “sorry, sorry, i’m sorry” over and over and over again, and mutsuki could do nothing but stand there and watch. )
fic // gravity ( we’re being pulled together without knowing. ) // sagukai sequel to a fanfic from three years ago, and, in this one, aoko notices something weird between the two of them and is determined to get to the bottom of this.
As Aoko’s declaration is laid out in the air in-between them, there’s only the noises of Aoko eating her bentō until Hakuba-kun blurts out in a rush, “KurobaandImadeout.”
Aoko can’t help but choke on the sweet potato tempura she made, and she coughs for a bit until Hakuba-kun gives her his thermos of tea to drink from. Nodding gratefully at him while drinking, Aoko manages to calm down her coughs enough to stare at Hakuba-kun with wide eyes belaying her shock. “You made out with Kaito?! What, how, when, why?!”
fic // what do you see when you close your eyes { death, pain, misery, and most of it of your creation. } // drabble about alex’s nightmares.
But… sometimes it’s drowning, it’s Joe Byrne didn’t come in on time or didn’t come at all, and he’s just drowning on land, screaming, begging, hoping that the CIA agents would believe him. Sometimes, it’s fire, a building he can’t escape from this time, his parents’ plane, and the smoke chokes his lungs as the ashes curl around his head. Sometimes, it’s Jack, accusing him, asking him why her, why did he have to come into her life, as she bleeds to death in his arms. Sometimes, it’s Yassen, cold and neutral with a bullet wound in his heart, and he doesn’t say a word as he slowly chokes Alex ( but it’s a dream, and so he never dies ). Sometimes, it’s Ian, and Alex has had enough, and Alex just screams and rages about how he made him this way, and Ian just topples over dead after all is said and finished ( or, maybe, he’s always been dead ).
Once, it was John and Helen Rider, seeing Alex, seeing who he became, and turning away from his, disgusted by the actions he took.
drabble // a response to a dgm chapter. // kanda’s thoughts upon being called “fragile” by allen.
what use is a monster that is no longer a monster ?
he’s just a doll, taped together, and one push away from falling a p a r t.
For the ask meme, 35 to 40!
Thank you SO much!!! Sorry for the delay, I never could find the time to write all these out. I appreciate it so much.
35. Tell some backstory details about one of your characters in your story
I’m going to choose Takamitsu Patrick from TLWA because of all the OCs, he got the most intricately fleshed out backstory. He’s American-Japanese. His mother was a restaurant owner in San Francisco, CA and his father a Japanese travelling businessman. They met up and had a brief fling which produced Patrick. They never married as they realized they didn’t really love each other and were too involved in their jobs. Patrick stayed with his mother in America, his dad was not in his life at all, only getting a few phone calls/presents a year. Still, Pat and his mom were very happy.
His mom died very suddenly of undiagnosed ovarian cancer when Patrick was about 10/11. With no other family, he was shipped off to Japan, a country he’s never known, to be with his dad. It was super awkward at first since they hardly know each other. Patrick slowly adjusted to living in Japan and slowly came to enjoy it. He only went to Yuuei because it was his father’s school and he insisted Patrick go and get the best education possible. They’re slowly working on improving their relationship but his dad is very scatterbrained and basically married to his work. Random aside that was initially in the text but got cut: Patrick has very bad eyesight and requires contacts though he carries spare glasses with him everywhere. Also he gets his quirk from his dad who almost never uses it. Patrick, on the other hand, loves to light up like a glowstick.
36. A spoiler for your story
I debated long and hard over which spoiler to give. So here’s one to entice you, Izuku will have a confrontation with the LOV at some point in the story.
37. Most inspirational quote you’ve ever read or heard that’s still important to you.
Honestly when it comes to writing, the words I keep very close to my heart is write what you want to read. It’s simple but it’s such an inspiration and helped direct my writing.
38. Have you shared your outline of your story with someone? If so, what did they think of it?
Most stories I don’t outline but the big long ones end up getting a half-hazard one just to keep characters and plots straight. My outlines usually don’t get shared because they’re messy. I think the only one I did share was for my unwritten Detective Conan/Magic Kaito manga ending fic. The outline itself was 39 pages *cries* I’m still really proud of that story but holy fuck it was a lot and I’m not skilled enough to write like that. My beta thought I was crazy as normal. I really should clean up and post the outline cause I had some great fake-outs and twists and plotlines (even if my prediction for the Boss failed)
I will divert and say the outline for TLWA is intriguing. Before I started writing, I laid out the timeline of events into a fairly solid outline. However, as I got further into the story, I stopped looking at my original plan. When I came back to it, I was pretty amazed at how many things ended up changing from my original vision. As I developed my OCs and got more comfortable writing canon characters, I ended up altering the plot based on what I thought the characters would do vice what I wanted them to do. Once the story is done, I might share some of these changes if anyone is interested.
39. Do you base your characters of real people or not? If so, tell us about one.
Um I would say no, not completely. Most of my characters are very much composites, some of them I know where the inspiration came from (the twins in TLWA started from Dipper and Mabel) where others surprise me (Patrick ended up very similar to Tamaki from Ouran without me noticing). I pick and choose traits and names and backstories from other characters and maybe some irl people but by the end, they’re not based on one person.
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why?
To write, fanfiction. I’ve had vague idea for original stuff but nothing concrete enough to make me want to develop it. I’m not opposed I just haven’t found an idea I can get excited about.
*inserts clever Melanie Martinez quote from that song* Lol, ignore me, and proceed to the awkwardness please. Also I’m gonna assume this is a kid who is in their youth…a little older than toddler but too young to attend school…so like…4…lol
Rantaro Amami * He knew this day was coming. Just never thought it would be this soon. * He’s cool and collected as he attempts to pry out of his child the extent that they want this answer to be answer. * Turns out they wanna know everything…as in everything… * No problem…he’s got 12 younger sisters…he’s done this before…they weren’t mentally scarred by what he had to teach them… * So why was he so nervous now… * He can’t remember any of his sisters being this young…b-but he… * What is life? * He settles for a subtle lie to bide time, avoiding the subject hopefully for another year…or three…
Korekiyo Shinguuji * Korekiyo is probably the most ready out of all the bois. * He even prepared a special tea set for this moment, because this was going to be a loooong talk… * He doesn’t care what age they are, he was just ready to tell the tale of how glorious the miracle of birth was, how splendid the process was for the child to even be conceived, the endless interactions a human can have that lead to the child’s very existence! * He’s practically in tears as he leads his child to a comfortable spot in the living room, arranging everything on the coffee table for the perfect scenery. * Your child is primarily confused as to why their father was doing all this, when they just wanted to confirm to his friend that a it was impossible for “rainbows and love” to make children. Everyone knows the mighty stork does all the deliveries. * Poor kid didn’t know what they were in for for literally the next two hours…and that was the short lecture…
Kaito Momota * Kaito is the reigning king of telling exaggerated stories of just about anything. * So when his kid asks him the fated question, he has an answer on spot. * He giddily space rockets his kid up and into a comfortable spot on the couch next to him. * “Alright kiddo, listen up, because your dad has got a lesson to teach. It all starts out with a brave astronaut…a tall handsome guy, like me, and a glorious space majesty like s/o~ It's a romantic story of how they fall in love, right? Well when that love becomes too much to handle they have to let it all come out of their bodies somehow and this is where the story gets interesting! They’ve gotta take a rocket up to the moon so that when they’re love is released the entire world will see how beautiful and bright their love is. As some as the rocket touches base with the moon, the two have to hug real tight so their hearts can rest, releasing a big light! That light is bright enough to cover the whole moon and shine back to Earth. And when that light goes all away after nine months, the two loving parents are left with their baby! Did ya get all that?” * Your kid nods excitedly and runs off to find you, shouting a thanks to a proud Kaito. * He’s even more excited to hear your kid shout from the other room to you that “Dad said I come from the moon!”
Kokichi Ouma * Dis boi a clown. * Which in most cases when it comes to your child isn’t necessarily a bad thing, heck it even saved you most of the time during the dreaded terrible twos. * Anyway, his child comes at him at the best time to ask questions like this…1 am (that’s right the hour of creativity). * He’s half sleep, and incoherent when his child asks a first time, but when they repeat the question he’s wide awake. * He was hoping that he could avoid this question, but they got him when he was most vulnerable, half asleep, and by the looks of your tired form, alone on this one. * Yep, definitely his kid. * Kokichi hastily, but silently leads the kid out of your room, and into the hall, shutting the door behind himself. * He immediately knew why the kid asked the question by the glow of the tv on the other end of the hall. * So they snuck out of bed huh? Nothing he can do about it now. * He knows if he doesn’t answer this question now, his kid maymostlikedefinitely will throw a tantrum (they learned from the best). * So in the spur of the moment, Kokichi makes up a silly tale of how children are born into existence as gifts from the Panta Overlords. * The story is semi-believable and enough to wear the kid out as Ouma tucks them into bed.
Shuuichi Saihara * It was the first thing in the morning when your child approaches Shuuichi with this question. * Yikes. * Um…*awkward Shuuichi intensifies* * He opens his mouth to answer before deciding on another method. * This cycle repeats itself ten times before you walk in on the two curious as to why your darling had gone completely red in the face. * Maybe he could tag team on this one…
Kiibo * Y I K E S * Kiibo had studied parenting 101 for the entire nine months your child was “in the oven,” but he hadn’t considered this question. * Maybe research– No! He remembers from one of the parenting guides that instinctive parenting is just as crucial as research, and right now was a very intimate moment that required instincts…right? * So how should Kiibo explain that to his child? Let alone how they came to be when he was a robot??? * Um… * Um… * Um… * Error…error… * Wuh-oh…malfunctioning robot on aisle s/o help!!!
Gonta Gokuhara * Yike. * Just one yike, because Gonta is shocked and embarrassed af, but he’s willing to take this first step… * Um… * R-right… Gonta should just tell the truth… * Lying to Gonta’s child would be immoral and break Gonta’s good relationship with his child. * 💡 * That’s when an idea hits him. * The best way Gonta can explain is through the way Gonta knows best! * Bugs :D * The greatest example is with bees~
Ryoma Hoshi * Ryoma was grooming his cat, like any other afternoon, when your child comes up to him with the question. * “Hey, Dad where do babies come from?” * And without a missing a heartbeat he provides the single honest word. * Your child is completely confused. “What’s that?” * “You’ll learn more about that when you’re older. Now how about we take your cat outside to finish brushing it, hm?” * 😎 Smooth transition, Ryoma.
Mikunology File #4: Fanmade/Derivative Characters in Vocal Android
Forget those dumb character lists I made in the first two files, I don’t have the time to make icons/portraits for everybody.
But, I figured I might as well talk about the fanmade and deriative characters that will be featured in this series/comic/story/whatever, so here we go. And remember, some portrayals of characters are made up purely for storytelling’s sake--if there wasn’t a story to any of this, I’d probably portray some of these characters differently.
Info under the cut! (WARNING: A CRAPTON OF READING.)
Truthfully, unlike the Cryptons, who have a clear-cut role in the story (which is, duh, the main characters), a lot of the fanmade characters are sort of scattered throughout the story. Some are important, most are just little background characters that help populate this wacky, futuristic world the Vocaloids live in. But I have to say, I have the Friendship is Magic approach to background characters: despite being backgrounds, they probably have their own story to tell.
So what of them?
Akita Neru & Yowane Haku: Oh, these guys. As stated on a post I made on Incorrect Vocal Android Quotes, these two start out as low-tier villains, so low-tier I actually wouldn’t categorize them as such considering other characters fill the title of “villain” so much better. Why? Story-wise, these two do little more than make halfhearted attempts at antagonizing Miku and the Cryptons, and even then, it’s mostly Neru’s personal envy. That’s why I don’t consider it a spoiler that Neru and Haku end up joining the heroes--though Haku’s role gets expanded later on as we learn more about her creators.
Calne Ca/Calcium: Calcium, surprisingly enough, would have counted as a oneshot villain if it weren’t for the fact she’s just terribly lonely. Calcium, in reference to Deino’s concept, is supposed to be a robotic exoskeleton--and in this story, a robotic exoskeleton developed by a miscellaneous company for some shady reasons. She gains a Miku skin (thus becoming Calne Ca) after coming to idolize Miku’s music and deeds, and later on gets the more humanlike skin from Bacterial Contamination after Miku befriends her.
Zatsune Miku: As mentioned on Incorrect Vocal Android as well, Zatsune is definitely one of the more textbook supervillains in Sapporo. Created by a mysterious underground company, Zatsune’s mission is basically Kill & Replace--assassinate Miku, get all her glory and fame, maybe cause a robot uprising in the process, who knows. Thing is, curiously enough Zatsune’s specific function is more of an attack droid, not a singing one, and while at first she’s a bit more quirky and hammy she gets MUCH more serious when you see her...other design (aka her original one, if you’ve been to the Fanloid Wiki).
Dell Honne: Last I checked, I mentioned Dell quite a few times on Incorrect Vocal Android as well, and well...he’s not at all a nice guy, and arguably a worse villain than Zatsune depending on your perspective. While in retrospect I realize Dell was supposed to be a “Yowane Len”, so to speak, he’s actually a human character who is supposed to be Haku’s creator. He runs the large technology company Honne Corporation (a corporation I’ll go into more detail about later since I plan on making a post about companies in this story), and initially created Haku based on Miku’s success, and subsequently junked her when Haku failed to perform. But he’s not just a backstory character--he gets up to some evil plans later.
Hagane Miku: OK, OK. I’ll be honest that my portrayal of Hagane is a bit confusing, but I’ll do my best to be straight about it. (The problem with Miku’s derivatives is that I had to explain why she has so many lookalikes.) To start, I will say that I didn’t initially intend Hagane to be her own person in this verse--in one of the old drafts of this plotline, Hagane was simply a death metal alter ego Miku took on when people wanted her to be edgier. But in this current plotline, there are two Haganes, based on the H-side and M-side versions the Haganeloids were supposed to have.
Hagane Type-H: The Type H Haganes are a line of attack droids sent to destroy Sapporo while simultaneously wrecking Miku’s reputation, supposedly created by a faction of Honne Corp. (though it’s unconfirmed). The thing is about the H-Haganes is that unlike the Cryptons, or heck, unlike Zatsune, they are mindless--they simply follow the commands whoever made them gives them. Which, to Miku and crew, makes them that much more dangerous.
Hagane Type-M: This is where the more confusing part comes. See, as more stuff happens, the Vocaloids end up inspiring a LOT of people, and not only do more singers pop up because of them, more heroes do, too! That said, it’s not uncommon for some of said new heroes to base their image on the Vocaloids themselves--and thus, M-Type Hagane Miku is a vigilante fighting bad guys on the lower deck in a punk-rock Miku image. Who she really is, no one knows, but she definitely helps the group when the H-Types show up.
Sakine Meiko: OK, this one is purely technical but I felt I should clear up some things in case someone tries to point it out--Sakine Meiko and the Meiko that features as a main character (MEIKO) are one and the same. Sakine as the derivative she’s known as was Meiko’s persona when she used to be a teen idol, being a one-hit wonder before retiring so Meiko could study science. Hence, that’s why I give Meiko the surname of “Sakine” even as an adult.
Shion Family: Yes, they exist here, too. The Shion Family is, as expected, Kaito’s crazy family of brothers (and one sister) that he occasionally goes to visit, or that occasionally visit him and cause havoc. I won’t go into detail about each one, but the family is pretty much made up of (in order of birth): Akaito (red), Kikaito (yellow), Kaito himself (blue), Mokaito (brown), Taito (purple), Nigaito (green), Kaiko, and finally Kageito (who I’ll go more into next). All this plus their unnamed foster father who I need to make. Zeito, as much as I wanted to include him, isn’t here simply because I haven’t figured out a role for him yet (as Kageito kind of has the role people would expect Zeito to have, knowing Zatsune).
Kageito Shion: You know how above I say that not all portrayals in Vocal Android are reflective of my image of the character, and that if this were ust a story-less random thing characters would be portrayed differently? This is definitely one of those times. Kageito, in this story, is Zatsune’s right-hand man and most loyal lackey, being a calm and sweet boy that was transformed into a devious and crazed monster after being possessed by a mysterious shadow being. He directly antagonizes Miku and the Kagamines numerous times but is routinely defeated, and goes into hiding with Zatsune sometime later (whom he’s infatuated with, by the way). Whether Miku actually brings him back to his original self is up in the air.
Hatsune Mikuo, Kagamine Rinto, and Kagamine Lenka: I was slightly iffy about adding genderbends in simply because it’d be hard to explain how they exist (because, like I said before, I’m trying to explain why there’s so many Mikus running around), but I gave in eventually. Kind of along the lines of how Haku was developed, the genderbends were made as knockoffs--created by a couple of random scientists who wanted a piece of the action. Mikuo, Rinto, and Lenka don’t have the powers that Miku and crew have, though, but they befriend them just the same. S’all good.
Kagami Kawaiine: Now we’re getting to the silly ones. Kagami, unlike most of the characters above, is simply a silly background character that pops up now and again to annoy absolutely everyone around her. She’s a human girl that tries to imitate Miku and interrupts random events by being a weeb.
Sasayaki Nerune: Another background character, and actually my OWN character--she’s a narcoleptic android that works random odd jobs and appears from time to time doing something weird. I just think it’s fun to have her cameo occasionally.
Hachune Miku, Tako Luka, Shiteyanyo and Larval Rin: The weird little mascots are characters that simply pop in now and again to do whatever, with Tako Luka officially being Luka’s pet in this story. Hachune shows up very randomly as a sort of a visual joke, but also offers Miku rather assertive advice (thus leading Miku to believe Hachune is simply a figment of her imagination). Shiteyanyo and Larval Rin I haven’t decided on yet, but maybe they’ll show up somewhere.
Mikudayo: Mikudayo, in all essence, is just a little running gag that exists solely to spook the hell out of the other characters. While I imagine it originated at a convention/concert kind of place (mirroring how it came to be in real life), it just stalks Miku relentlessly for some reason. Miku isn’t too sure it’s even just a human in a suit, either.
OK so that was a LOT of writing I just did. But yep, those are the plans for those characters, at least. And just so everyone knows, I’m totally open to suggestions on other derivatives as characters (I am NOT taking ocs, but if there’s a more notable fanmade I haven’t heard of then I’d love to include them). If you got to the end of this post, then I wholly appreciate your endurance of my weird ideas and your interest.
Sai, I just went and watched Yugioh Everything's video on Yusaku and Aoi having Autism and Depresson, respectively. While he makes some solids points and I agree with them having mental problems, he basically said Vrains is the first yugioh to talk about 'such dark topics.' If your up to it could you bring up some characters in previous ygo series (Arc-V or all your choice) that implied to have mental problems cause Vrains is not the first by a long shot lmao.
Lmao sorry this answer is kinda late since the past few days have been busy for me and ironically enough you sent this right when I just got back from a grad school info session (regarding psych programs ofc) which made me realize I kinda wanna pursue a career more along research in the field of abnormal psychology which is one of my stronger areas of knowledge in psychology already anyway. I just really like it that much.
So yeah I did see this ask like almost right when you sent it but it was late and I had just gotten home after a nice day and YE’s videos haven’t been making me too happy lately so ofc sorry I kinda avoided watching it that night cuz I didn’t wanna ruin my nice day (just in case). But now that I watched it, well as far as I can remember he didn’t outright say that this is the first time a Yugioh’s dealt with these issues before (but I can see how you got that he perhaps implied it).
That all being said, I still have just a, I’d say, general yet above-average knowledge in these subjects (hey I have a degree in Psych, yes, but that doesn’t make me an expert by any means and I’m not afraid to say that, hell I love learning new things about psych all the time) so please keep that in mind (also please keep in mind too that I cannot professionally diagnose anyone, but for the sake of discussion about the psychology in fiction, I can definitely give my thoughts on what would be the most probably diagnosis for certain characters). Besides that though, if YE does actually believe that this is the first time these kinds of issues have ever been dealt with in Yugioh, well wow idk how much he’s been paying attention before this...
(Long read with further examples + explanations from characters in each series under the cut)
Regarding his statements on the Vrains characters and the disorders he mentioned, I’ll give it to him. In fact, I too am pretty sure by now that all of Yusaku’s “quirks” point to Autism, though, and YE didn’t mention this so idk how knowledgeable he is regarding other personality disorders, he also seems to show symptoms of OCPD (obsessive-compulsive); these include being obsessed or preoccupied with making lists and keeping track of small details, over preoccupation with work or meeting goals to the point of neglecting your social life or forming close relations, unwillingness to see ethics or values in someone else’ light, being stubborn, etc. Wouldn’t surprise me if he has both since there’s a high co-morbidity between ASD and OCPD.
In regards to Aoi, again yes I agree. Girl has depression. It’s very obvious (this I can say with confidence as someone who has suffered previously from it [note: I sought help and let’s just say I’m very glad I did]. The Paranoid Personality Disorder... (I’m gonna be honest.... I didn’t pay enough attention to Aoi’s character enough to determine a firmer answer and I don’t really feel like rewatching the ep). According to him, it’s a possible thing. He did mention that she could just be acting that way because her whole entire life she’s been kinda used so she has a general distrust of people, but that’s just the thing. If in fact he’s correct about her symptoms matching up, it doesn’t necessarily matter if she’s acting this way due to her childhood trauma, in fact, that’s even more reason to validate her suffering from PPD (another area I feel more confident about in psych is child/adolescent development and hey guess what, lots of personality disorder symptoms start showing up during childhood or are even a direct cause of childhood trauma).
Speaking of childhood trauma, you wanted to know characters from other series that have mental illnesses/suffer from personality disorders? Well... (*cough cough* as a psychologist, why do you think I enjoyed Arc V so much?)...Here’s a quick list of just a few select characters I can think of:Arc V:-Yuya (remember, the childhood trauma I mentioned): Oh my poor boy suffers from dysthymia. Again, I’m pretty confident here because I can relate (because I suffer from it too ahaha). While we don’t know exactly for how long, it’s been at least three years with it (ugh) since his father’s disappearance and all the bullying. He shows so many signs of it throughout the show (it would be pointless to get screencaps because the signs are literally everywhere): dysthymia (sometimes called “persistent depressive disorder”) is noted by sadness, anger, irritability, mood swings, loss of appetite, insomnia (did you notice in Synchro when we was feeling depressed in his room he didn’t eat at all and stayed up all night despite being noticeably tired), indecisiveness, low self-esteem, among others. I’m sure people might argue against me, trying to say “oh well he’s energetic for the most part and still smiles a lot” well guess what, there’s lots of entertainers, comedians, performers, and just overall really sociable people who do a terrifyingly good job hiding it.I saw someone once mention that they headcanoned Yuya also has Histrionic Personality Disorder and well... he actually does show signs of it but not so much that he actually meets criteria. Even for being an entertainer tho, he shows this more than the others (either Dennis, Yuzu, or even Yusho), but again, can’t be diagnosed with it.Lastly, and this is more of a post-canon thought regarding the prognosis of his mental health... he’s definitely gonna deal with some dissociative symptoms for the rest of his life (or until somehow, some way they find a way to separate him and the other Yuus, and even then still...). There is just no way in hell you can convince me that he’s not gonna experience dissociation on a regular basis with 3 other people living inside him. Same goes for Yuzu. (Side note: RIP my heart.)
-Shun: He suffers from PTSD. Oh man he’s kind of textbook PTSD: irritableness, mistrust, social issolation, flashbacks, hostility, fear, anxiety, paranoia, agitation, hyper-vigilance, etc. (I’d also say Yuto and Kaito suffer this too).
-Reria: Also suffers from PTSD, but since Reira is much younger, coping with childhood PTSD is a lot harder and leads to more frequent panic attacks, flashbacks, intrusive or unwanted thoughts, nightmares, avoidant behavior, etc.
-Yuri: Conduct Disorder, aka the precursor to Antisocial Personality Disorder. He’s 14 so he can’t really be diagnosed as the second. Anyways, what really tipped me off about him having this is his blatant disregard for any remorse towards harming others. He just doesn’t feel it. On the contrary, he straight up says he enjoys it, says he needs it “just like breathing”, he’s an overall really violent kid and starts fights with literally anyone that gets in his way (like... it’s even his catchphrase “You’re in my way!”), has no knows long term close relationships with anyone (reeaaally wish they had given us more of him and Dennis together tho...), and he’s known to deceive, trick, or lie to others with no guilt at all. (He’s also seen as similar to past villains of Yugioh, outright disproving the implication that Vrains is the first Yugioh to deal with personality or mental disorder issues).
-Zarc: Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Again, another textbook example. And yes, similar to Aoi’s possible Paranoid Personality Disorder, this is canonically induced into his personality as a result of the society he lived in praising his violent duel style and eventual lust for power due in part to the same reason. But just because it was induced due to circumstance doesn’t make it any less valid. It’s another form of trauma, just like Aoi’s whole “being used all her life” led her to develop PDD.
And well there’s more examples in Arc V (you can also argue that Shingo also suffers from NPD to some extent, etc.) but I think those are the biggest ones I can think of right now.
And of course, though I’ve seen them all, I know Arc V the best + it’s just the one that’s in my most recent memory so it’s easier to talk about them, but some other quick examples from the series that I can think of:
DM:-Kaiba: Again, Narcissistic Personality Disorder.-Marik: I think he’s a strong candidate for being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (at least the way his villainous arc portrayed him as).-Bakura: Actually an adult so actual Antisocial Personality Disorder.
GX:-Judai: Depression & Dissociation. Yep.-Ryo Marufuji/Hell Kaiser: Definitely could argue that he displays signs of Sadisitic Personality Disorder, just keep in mind that it is no longer included in the DSM-V so it is not something someone would be typically diagnosed with professionally.-Manjoume: Another Narcissist.
5D’s:-Jack Atlas: Okay so he’s more of an accurate example of Histrionic Personality Disorder, minus the sexual criteria (which, if the Yugioh anime genre/audience allowed, I’m sure would be plausible since he also displays signs of NPD, implying that he might actually want that kind of physical/superficial attention).-Aki: Also like Aoi, displayed symptoms of PPD, though I’d argue she definitely has it and just learns to cope over time after befriending Yusei & co.-Sherry: Shows signs of high functioning ASD (being perfectionist and being obsessed with finding out about her parents murder), but ASD isn’t something I’m too confident talking about yet so maybe don’t quote me on this.-Divine: I’d say you can argue he’s has Antisocial Personality Disorder.
Zexal:-Vector: Another one with.... I mean... he’s not really 13 or 14, he’s actually, what, like 100s of years old? So instead of Conduct Disorder, he actually has Antisocial... technically...-Fuya: OOOOOHHHH You thought I wouldn’t remember a character like him??? (Again, as a psychologist, these are the characters I like the most). He’s memorable to me, despite being a minor character, cuz I’d say he definitely displays signs of having Avoidant Personality Disorder, especially with regards to using his Esper Robin personality to avoid all those intrusive, self-conscious thoughts he doesn’t find pleasant.-Shark/Ryoga/Nasch: Also has PTSD.-IV: He’s borderline Antisocial. Not quite. But almost there.
OOOKAYY Well anyways, those were just a bunch of examples. There’s way more, I’m sure that I missed A TON. But yes it’s as you said, Vrains is definitely NOT the first time in Yugioh history where characters have had to struggle with mental health / personality disorder issues. Far from it.
And wow actually thank you for the ask! This was really fun to think about and I welcome the discussion any time! Anyone, don’t be afraid to let me know if there’s stuff I might have left out or if there’s anything wrong with this or any arguments for or against any of this.
I know that The Broke and The Bookish are taking a break from their Top Ten Tuesday prompts, so I'll go ahead and wing it until they return! Top Ten Tuesday is a feature originated by TBATB that features a list of whatever fits the prompt for that week. Since it's start, so many bloggers have taken part and shared their own lists. So if you have your own Top Ten feature, we would love to read it. For this week, we'll be doing Top Ten OTPs.
In no particular order:
Elias Veturius/Laia of Serra from Sabaa Tahir's Ember Quartet Even as I write out their names, my heart is in so much pain because I love them too much. I have not shipped this hard since SHADOW AND BONE and that is saying something. There is just something about Elias and Laia's relationship that just hits all the good parts of my emotional psyche. Or maybe it's because the writing for these books are so flippin' superb that the romance is automatically amazing. Obviously, their relationship is not at the forefront of these books, but there is enough to tease me to curling up into a ball after I've finished a new book. I love that they come from different places, but have so much in common. And I appreciate that they have endured so much on their own and do not rely on each other, but they do strengthen one another. Now that their paths have become so different at the end of A TORCH AGAINST THE NIGHT, I know that I will be destroyed by any moments that they sure in subsequent books.
Malyen Oretsev/Alina Starkov from Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone Talk about original OTPs...I know that this will be controversial for some people because of course, the other side of things is Alina and the Darkling and who doesn't love being seduced by the Darkling? -swoons- I will admit that I enjoy Alina/The Darkling as much as everyone else but at the end of the day, I think my heart lies with Mal and Alina because they get a bittersweet ending and it just made my heart ache at how melancholy things became for both of them and yet, they always had one another. I know that Mal has had his flaws and probably doesn't deserve Alina, but good gosh, their chemistry was lovely for me. I know that some other people didn't see it - they saw more steam from Alina and the Darkling, but there was an innocence and a tenderness to Mal and Alina's friendship and relationship that made me fall in love with them as a couple. Man, when RUIN AND RISING came out and I read it, I was just so freaking happy. I am glad that they got a semblance of a happy ending.
Cress Darnell/Carswell Throne from Marissa Meyer's The Lunar Chronicles CRESSWELL gives me life. I seriously love the dynamic of Cress/Thorne because they make each other better without all the drama. Plus they're so cute together with all of Thorne's quippy lines and Cress just doing what she does best, which is be a badass computer wizard.
Kate Harker/August Flynn from Victoria Schwab's Monsters of Verity Kate and August were a surprise for me. Their relationship was very much in the backdrop of the Monsters of Verity plot and for very good cause. There was just so much that needed to be told about their worlds and I really appreciated the little moments of intimacy and tenderness they shared with one another. I'm sure there are people who have said they have no chemistry or are nothing more than friends, but when two characters are pitted in a conflict that these two are, it's so very hard for me not to ship them. I think they were both poetically and tragically written and to show their vulnerabilities to one another just leaves me wanting. How can I not ship a couple that is like that? Kestrel Trajan/Arin from Marie Rutkoski's The Winner's Trilogy Do you know that when someone is playing a stringed instrument in some classical piece and then there's that epic crescendo and then the single bouncing pluck of the bow against the string that echos? I feel like that perfectly describes Kestrel and Arin for me. I think they have such a theatrical and dramatic way about them, but yet their romance is so subtle and lovely as it developed throughout the trilogy. Both of them came from very similar beginnings but Arin did not remain in the same place that Kestrel was born into and despite a war breaking between them, they were still able to come together by the end. And oh my gosh, how can you not love a couple that giggles about playing piano and singing together? It's just such a wonderful thought.
Kaz Brekker/Inej Ghafa from Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows Duology I remember a brief time when Kaz and Inej suffocated me with the turmoil of their angsty relationship, especially after what happened in Six of Crows. I just wanted them to be together, these tough little children, and squish them against my chest. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK FOR? I just wanted them to have their happy endings with a butt ton of kruge and the Barrel at their beckoning AS KING AND QUEEN. Plus, like all couples, they had some amazing dialogue exchanges that ripped me to pieces.
Feyre Acheron/Rhysand from Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses Series They were my first ever steam couple and damn, they got me going. -fans self- I feel like Maas is really known for being able to write intimate scenes with her characters (see THRONE OF GLASS) and when Rhysand and Feyre had their first meeting, I remember all the steam and sparks that rose from their interaction. And it just built from there. And I think it can be safely said how much people loved A COURT OF MIST AND FURY, considering how central their relationship was in the story. They were just so memorable to me and it didn't hurt that he oozed the sex appeal. -heart eyes-
Lara Jean Song/Peter Kavinsky from Jenny Han's To All The Boys I've Loved Before Trilogy Talk about the epitome of a contemporary romance. I remember how much I fell in love with TATBILB and how there was Asian representation in the MC and obviously, Peter Kavinsky. I don't know what it was about him besides the fact that he was a big ol' geeky teddy bear underneath his air of popularity. I feel like he just represented that typical popular boy that all the girls, ALLLL THE GIRLS, had a crush on when they were in high school. I love how he was with Kitty and their father. And I love how they both helped each other grow into the better parts of themselves.
Linh Cinder and Emperor Kaito from Marissa Meyer's The Lunar Chronicles Well, I feel like a Cinderella retelling is self explanatory if we're talking about Cinder and Kai. Marissa Meyer could have made their relationship full of stinky cheese and cliche, but she definitely did justice to her original characters. I loved watching Cinder kick butt with her brain and Kai with his diplomacy when dealing with the enemy. Their relationship was not something that I would call topsy-turvy or dramatic, but it did just have an ease about it that made me rather happy. Plus, how could you say no to Cinderella and her prince? Geez.
Lara Jean Song/Peter Kavinsky from Jenny Han's To All The Boys I've Loved Before Trilogy Talk about the epitome of a contemporary romance. I remember how much I fell in love with TATBILB and how there was Asian representation in the MC and obviously, Peter Kavinsky. I don't know what it was about him besides the fact that he was a big ol' geeky teddy bear underneath his air of popularity. I feel like he just represented that typical popular boy that all the girls, ALLLL THE GIRLS, had a crush on when they were in high school. I love how he was with Kitty and their father. And I love how they both helped each other grow into the better parts of themselves.
Lila Bard/Kell Maresh from V.E. Schwab's Shades of Magic OH THIS IS THE EPITOME OF SLOW BURNS. I find it incredibly astonishing and awing when an author can completely immerse her readers in the story enough that when romance happens that it is just a sweet treat of a surprise. I found that in Schwab's writing pattern and I seriously applaud her for it - if I were to ever aspire to write like someone, it would be her. I loved the development that she put into both Lila and Kell and how they seem to be the complete opposite of one another. They exist as such strong characters and together, they're just as good, but at the same time, I could feel that they were one another's weaknesses as well but not in the way that's traditional. If an enemy were to use one of them against the other, I think it would just drive them harder, but around each other specifically...it's like that quote from Richelle Mead - "Ah, those two. In a fight, they're lethal. Around each other, they melt.' I don't think any words were ever truer than these when talking about Kell and Lila.
30 Day Challenge: Day #6
Like yesterday, I wanted to elaborate more on an earlier post. This time on Day #4, which was my Talentswap AU. Obviously some of these will be much more fleshed out than others. And there might be a spoiler or two about a character’s backstory but nothing too severe.
Inventor!Kiibo:
He was a sickly baby boy left on the doorstep of a kind old man named Prof. Iidabashi. Having no family of his own, Iidabashi took the baby in and gave him the name Tetsuya Iidabashi.
Using his connections in the scientific community and his vast wealth, Tetsuya grew up as a relatively normal boy, although he was still on the sickly side and had some prosthetics and implants.
Prof. Iidabashi truly lacked any hope for the future or the generation of today’s children, but Tetsuya gave him that by being such a kind-hearted and polite, albeit a little snarky, young man. He lovingly gave him the nickname Kiibo as a sort of subtle way of saying thanks.
Tetsuya’s expertise in inventions is of course robotics, just like his adopted father. He takes great pride in all of his creations, and has somewhat of an ego when it comes to his work.
Robot!Kaede:
She would be a mix of Kaede’s confidence and the obliviousness of a sheltered robot, leading to an overly forward and insanely stubborn and gullible person.
When she makes up her mind, it will be near impossible to change it. Only those that are close to her have any real chance of doing so.
Kiibo and Kaede met each other first before coming across the other members of the group, when Kaede had a minor malfunction and Kiibo came along on fixed it. Kaede took it upon herself to decide that they were dating shortly after that. She will sometimes randomly pick Kiibo up in the middle of a conversation and carry them away to her room, where luckily for Kiibo she doesn’t really know what to do next.
She was built by Kiibo’s father, Prof. Iidabashi but the two had never met until now. Kaede doesn’t mind that fact at all but Kiibo is very embarrassed over it.
“Kiibo, I don’t see what’s wrong.” “Of course the robot-nerd had to have his dad build him a girlfriend...just kill me...” “Kiibo I could never kill you! But if I don’t fulfill what my lover desires, he might hate me forever. What to do? *begins to wail*” “Kaede please...”
Butler!Kokichi:
He is the stereotypical sassy butler who gossips in the kitchen at a fancy dinner party about his master and all the guests at the party.
He’s so good at keeping secret and learning about gossip, he can learn two people are dating an hour before they begin to date.
“Did you hear that inventor-nerd and the robot getting together? Pretty wild huh? I bet he’s gonna build a bunch of accessories for her, don’t you think?”
He doesn’t like his job that much, he’s just an absolute expert at every single imaginable task that comes with it.
He’ll do whatever he is asked, but not without cracking a joke under his breath about whoever asked him to do it.
Detective!Himiko:
She dresses like Sherlock Holmes. Pipe and all. It blows bubbles.
“Momma wouldn’t want me smoking yet.”
She could probably have found the way out for all of them by now, but she is just so sleepy.
Artist!Kirumi:
People clamor over her art which has such a unique style that can only be described as “Clean.”
Tennis Player!Gonta:
Gonta in a pure white tennis outfit and short shorts. Imagine that stomping across a tennis court.
Supreme Leader!Maki:
A cult kind of just...formed around her.
She could care less about it. But it has its perks.
Magician!Kaito:
He wears a tux with a golden star, sun, and moon design all over it. His top hat is just on the top of his hair, so it’s crooked too.
He first got into magic because he was scared of it, thinking it was real as a kid. But then he learnt it was just illusions he began to love it.
Anthropologist!Angie:
“Angie knows about all of the gods and prays to them all.”
She practices some of the beliefs of most religions. She can quote any religious text from memory.
Caregiver!Ryoma:
He loves cats.
He tolerates kids.
He’s great with both.
Cosplayer!Korekiyo:
His cosplays are praised for being so well-made, they make the real characters’ designs look like the imitation.
He loves anime, manga, and video games more than anything. His favorites are ones with stories involving personal growth of a character, or ones that show the beauty of the human spirit,
His favorite characters to cosplay are the admirable ones.
He loves to write thesis-length character analyses and post them on his cosplay blog.
???!Miu:
“I’m nobody special. Just your average chronic masturbator girl.”
She might be confident and foul-mouthed on the outside, but she shrinks in fear at someone raising merely their voice at her.
She seems to know a bit more than the rest of them do, and however she learnt it seems to have made her jaded to some degree.
But not jaded enough to have porn on her person that she looks at when she thinks no one is around.
Someone is almost always around.
Astronaut!Shuichi:
His uncle got him into the program early. He also managed to ace his exams.
He doesn’t think he earned the right to be a part of the space program nor having the talent of SHSL Astronaut.
He was just lucky enough to have an astronaut for uncle and a pretty strong stomach.
Entomologist!Tenko:
Tenko the Amazonian.
She’s dressed like Jane at the end of Tarzan.
She still has her same hairstyle somehow...
Pianist!Tsumugi:
She can easily get lost in the music in her head.
She is a fan of all genres and always has one melody or another playing in her mind with her fingers moving along the imaginary piano in front of her.
She lives for her music. The fame and fortune that come with being a musician doesn’t matter to her at all.
Akido Master!Rantarou:
He learned to fight defending his sisters from bullies.
Then he began to train under his master in the ways of Neo-Akido.
He is very protective of those around him.
