all these talk about reboots of already successful book-to-screen adaptations, when you can craft highly entertaining spin-offs from 19th-century classic novels. concoct what-ifs from the canon material and turn them into reality. put that one minor character you thought was kinda cool into all sorts of Situations. make them be uncomfortable and struggle in their new role as the protagonist. make that social commentary cheekier while keeping it accurate. Dickensian with a....twist, as one would say

I was watching Avatar the last airbander and suddenly my mind just went " I HAVE AN IDEA!"

What about avatar x assassin's creed?

Desmond and his ancentors pretty please😅

My initial thought was “What benders would Desmond and his ancestor be?” and then brain went “Hey, you know that the Bleeding Effect is a lot like the Avatar’s ability to connect with past Avatars and the Avatar State, right?” and making them the consecutive Avatars seemed to be the logical conclusion. XD

So this would mean that Desmond is the next in the line of Avatars and the past Avatars were Altaïr, Ezio, and Ratonhnhaké:ton. We'll make the timeline a suggestion so they could all be consecutive Avatars and have Edward in that list too.

This does mean that they would have to have different elements and if we wish to keep the Avatar cycle from canon (air → water → earth → fire) with Edward being our ‘Water Avatar’, we’d be forced to put the characters as such:

Altaïr (Fire)

↓

Ezio (Air)

↓

Edward (Water)

↓

Ratonhnhaké:ton (Earth)

↓

Desmond (Fire)

Which… honestly? Kinda works?

The Fire Nation being more of a military juggernaut (especially during Last Airbender’s setting) works for Altaïr who was raised in Masyaf (which has a lot of private military vibe to it) and Desmond (who can be argued to have run away from involuntary Boot Camp). And really, if any Assassin can unlock Lightningbending, it would be Altaïr. Firebending has also been given a bad rep with the whole ‘it’s fueled by anger and hate’ but Iroh did tell Zuko that Firebending is a power controlled by the desire to accomplish one’s goals which fits Altaïr and his mastery over the Apple quite a bit. Also, also, firebending is connected to the sun so it would be ironic for Desmond to be a Firebender. (And because Desmond is our special boi, he can get Energybending too in the end… as a treat…)

Ezio being an Airbender sorta suits him? Airbenders are known for their love for freedom and trying to find peace which is technically what Ezio wished for once he let go of his thirst for vengeance, especially in Revelations where he’s trying to find meaning to his life (and if all these sacrifices meant anything at all in the grand scheme of things) which is more or less the Assassins’ equivalent to a spiritual journey.

I wanted Ratonhnhaké:ton to be an Earthbender anyway so this works well because Earthbenders are usually seen as resilient and enduring which fits Ratonhnhaké:ton more than the usual ‘meme’ of him being an angry “Where’s Lee!?” dude. Also... Ratonhnhaké:ton metalbending? God, yes!

But you know what would be such a fun AU idea?

If they’re Pro-Benders.

Like Altaïr, Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton are members of one of the most popular Pro-Bender teams.

While Desmond is some unknown dude who had just got to Republic City and was looking for a job. By a stroke of weird luck, he gets a job as maybe a PA or an assistant to the manager in charge of the guys’ team (maybe their manager is Edward who is a retired pro-bender). And Desmond isn’t a bender…

Or at least, that’s what they all believe.

And maybe there’s this whole mystery about how there hasn’t been an Avatar since the death of the last Avatar and the Fire Nation has been in a… strange state of panic and defensive for the last 25 years now. Maybe Altaïr left his hometown after so many people keep saying “if only you’ve been born as the Avatar” and became a pro-bender to show everyone that he didn’t need to be the Avatar to be the best Firebender that Fire Nation ever had.

Maybe… just maybe… Desmond gives enough hints for others to realize his hometown was in Fire Nation, somewhere quite isolated…

And he really didn’t like to talk about his past.

I had that ask the other day asking me to make the case for Scum Villain, which I didn’t feel qualified to do, but here is a show I will make a case for

you should all watch sleuth of the ming dynasty

it tells the tale of

the world’s most annoying clever twink

as well as

the soldier whose PTSD can only be cured by feeding said twink delicious-looking meals

plus

the shady imperial eunuch who keeps inviting himself over for brunch

everyone has incredible hats and it walks a perfect ine between being inoffensively pro law and order and being like wait what if this emperor’s bland incompetence is in fact incredibly threatening. also the plausible deniability hetero romance is.... very funny in its half-assedness

Had not heard of the Imperfects before today but randomly decided to watch it. Binged the entire season today. Abbi Singh is my best friend and I love her and exactly the kind of queer representation we need more of. The show isn’t perfect and there’s things I wish they’d done differently but the whole show is worth it for giving us her. I hope people watch this show but fuck these days I don’t believe that Netflix will renew anything that’s got queer POC leads. Not even having a huge number of people watch a program and talk about it online and push for it is enough (yeah I’m talking about First Kill), they just decide whether or not a show gets another season based on bullshit. I hope it gets renewed my heart cannot take every good new show getting cancelled and there were some great plot hooks for the next season.

Spanish is a heavily gendered language, it also doesn’t have many neutral words, and when I watched The Sandman dubbed, I was genuinely surprised that all the characters only talked about Lucifer using male nouns and adjectives.

In Latin American dubs, when a character is non binary or their gender is ambigous, 90% of the time you can expect them to use words that “fit” their appearance in the traditionl sense.

So I was thrilled to hear that they didn't do the same to Gwendoline Christie. It’s like, hell yeah! A person can have breasts and wide hips and a feminine voice and still not be a woman. 🏳️‍⚧️

Did you know that between 1939 and 1941 the NYC Tax Administration and the Works Progress Administration collaborated to take photographs of nearly every building in all 5 boroughs of New York City? And that you can see these photos today thanks to NYC Municipal archiving? This is, obviously, amazing for hundreds of reasons. For the purposes of this post, it's fantastic because this is a very real address:

And when I put that address into the photo locator map, I get this:

Going from there, we can walk around the surrounding blocks via photographs. And if we assume that Steve and Bucky's pre-war apartment was fairly close to the Barnes', then these photos from 1939 to 1941 are a historically accurate trip to their neighborhood.

So, let's explore some pre-war Brooklyn. For your fic inspiration needs, your feelings, the general Stucky vibes, or just because:

160 State Street, bigger and without the map.

(If you ever feel like making the details of a fic incredibly historically accurate, there are so many real businesses to choose from in these photos.)

Like I said, there are pictures of nearly every building. This is just a small collection of the images I grabbed from the immediate blocks around 160 State. You can walk around the neighborhood in more detail, or anywhere else in 1939-1941 New York you want on the map I used.

forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

#or just the moral dilemmas #rewatching amc interview is kind of making me insane #that moment in episode two when louis is looking for a sort of assurance in the fact that lestat may actually have some good in him #look at how he cares about music look at the simple wondrous things that can bring him joy #and then the immediate dread when the opera performance turns out to be imperfect because he knows how lestat will react to *that*#I think there’s also something really interesting in the highlighting of lestat upbraids the less skilled singer before killing him #(slowly)#but also I will wait to watch more before I articulate my thoughts #vampires #interview with the vampire #amc interview with the vampire #i ramble sometimes #I do still find the lestat and claudia film and novel dynamic by far the most compelling for how she tries to usurp him but almost to be him #but I’m enjoying this #I’m very curious if I will like show claudia more on rewatch #the movie always resonated most with me (sue me lol) because there seemed to be more simultaneous fondness and attachment even at the end

Sooo I made Crowley's and Aziraphale's South Downs cottage in The Sims 4. Also made our two supernatual boys.

Here is Aziraphale Fell: bookworm, foodie and good. He wants to read ALL the books. Also Michael Sheen's face is so fucking hard to replicate

And here is Crowley, with and without glasses. I even found a mod for the tattoo! He is loyal, lazy and hot-headed. His aspiration is "soulmate" because he's a pathetic son of a bitch

And then their cottage! With a Bentley that's not really a Bentley but let's pretend it is.

Inside: ground floor floorplan and the entrance room.

Crowley has a greenhouse, obviously. There's a bench so Aziraphale can read there while Crowely takes care of the plants (*cough* shouts at them *cough*)

Their downstairs bathroom only has a bathtub because they don't use anything else.

And here is the living room! I tried to mix their styles a bit. It's mostly in the old fashioned, cozy vibe Aziraphale likes, but with a sprinkle of modern stuff more aligned with Crowley's taste. Lots of alcohol everywhere ofc

The kitchen has more of a modern vibe because I headcanon that it's Crowley that cooks most of the time. He says that it's because Aziraphale can't cook but it's because he likes to watch him eat the food he makes

Then we go upstairs! The bathroom here is the saddest and blandest bathroom because Crowley miracled it into existence when Maggie and Nina came over and were like "there's no toilet in your bathroom...?"

And the bedroom, more in a modern style because Crowley loves to sleep. There's also a vanity where Aziraphale puts on his creams and his things so he can be soft and pretty

And finally the last floor: Aziraphale's library!
