I'm watching Taskmaster backwards (GF got me to watch S14 live and I just ended up watching it reverse chronologically) and this is my tier list so far

Going over the izzy/lucius/shark exchange is so interesting in the context of this being an episode about apologies. About making concessions and trying to fix things.

(In this ep there's a lot about ed making amends/accommodating the crew's triggers and trauma. It's also about stede having to fix things when he upsets the superstitious crew by not treating their feelings as valid.)

At the start we have Ed's (probably well intentioned) but evasive, non-apology. He does an 'I'm sorry you feel that way' sort of apology about 'whatever that bad stuff was'. It's a wish to do better, but it doesn't really cover what went before. A lot of people interject here, but Izzy remains completely still and silent, off to one side.

Lucius says he never used the word 'sorry' and rightly calls this out. Roach however, says he's never heard an apology before - and liked it - so this seems like as much as it's a first for Ed to take even some accountability, it's probably the first time some of the crew have seen a captain (or anyone else) do this too.

Archie says 'They just get away with it and we move on'.

Lucius rounds on Izzy, because obviously Izzy should have the biggest grievance here. But Izzy responds to the question about Ed's apology as if it was about piracy in general - clearly showing that the cycle of abuse is a feature, not a bug. This is part of his life and identity as a pirate. This is, actually, things going back to normal. You get whipped (and we see these scars on him later) no one apologises, and you just reset to how it was before, pretending nothing has been altered until it all bubbles over again.

Ed then tells stede that he's never apologised for anything. Confirming that most of the crew's responses are in line with their past experiences.

Then Ed goes to fix the door and tells it that it's not its fault that it's broken, it was just doing it's job. This directly parallels Izzy's rant to the figurehead about it failing to do it's job. Ed could be talking about himself here, as Izzy was talking about himself - but to me it doesn't fit that well, because what 'job' was Ed trying to do? He could instead be acknowledging, indirectly, that he is aware that Izzy was doing his job - trying to make sure they all survived and functioned as a crew. Ed probably broke that door, and he broke Izzy. But he has yet to talk to him about it.

Immediately following this, is when he scares the BEJESUS out of Lucius and tells him 'it would be faster to get all this out in one go'. It sounds like a reasonable suggestion, but we know that it doesn't actually work. Lucius pushes him off the boat and it doesn't help. Because 'I hurt you, so now you hurt me' doesn't benefit the abused, it's still about making the abuser feel better - making them feel punished and therefore redeemed, even when their victim isn't healed. I don't think Ed is trying to manipulate Lucius here - both of them think it might help to 'fix things' but fixing things takes emotional intelligence that's not really developed yet.

ENTER, THE SHARK

Izzy starts working on the shark, after the non-apology. He doesn't have it in the 'candle fighting' scene obvs - but he does receive an apology in that scene, when stede says 'feet' and then corrects himself to foot. It's a simple straightforward apology, even if he does sort of laugh awkwardly. Izzy also at least attempted to apologise to Stede in ep. 3 - so he clearly sees the use in apologies - AND right after the apology, Izzy agrees to help stede. Their relationship changes. It gets better and they're no longer stuck in those old patterns. Izzy is full-on gentle parenting stede - even when he shoots down a fucking sail.

He also, notably, states that the crew's feelings on the curse are important. Meaning, how the crew feels is important to him, period.

After this, we're back to Lucius throwing Ed overboard. But it doesn't work because Ed doesn't remember the talent show thing, he doesn't really know why Lucius was so blindsided by that betrayal of trust. It's not about who goes overboard. It's about the dynamics underneath that and those can't be fixed by just trading places for a moment.

FINALLY. We see Izzy finishing the shark, and he's completely unsurprised that Lucius pushing Ed into the water didn't fix things. Izzy's done this 'tit for tat' thing - betraying Ed to the English over being banished - and it ended terribly for both of them. It escalated things. He knows it's not as simply as getting even with someone.

The solution Izzy has chosen to the cycle of his relationship with Ed is to pretend that Ed hasn't done anything to him. A shark did it. Like with the non-apology, blame is being shifted to a third party 'the bad things' the 'bad times'. Lucius (rightly) points out that this is not healthy, but Izzy's response, that's better than not moving on, clearly resonates.

Izzy's response to being hurt was to 1. Get even and 2. (when that proved deeply unsatisfying and made things worse) to put the unresolved conflict behind him. Because he doesn't think Ed is ever going to apologise or change, and wanting those things just hurt more.

Anyone who has parents/a partner/friend who's NEVER apologised for anything, knows how he's feeling. You stop trying to have it out and fix the relationship, and it starts to wither, even though the other person thinks it's healthy.

'Not moving on is worse' is a warning, and it's one that Lucius takes to heart, immediately trying to centre positive things instead of resentment and anger. He shares his feelings with Pete, and their relationship thrives.

The issue here, is that denial doesn't work. Lucius might be able to move on from what happened to him without a proper apology from Ed, but that's because he's not in a relationship with him. Izzy's the one who's really in it with Ed - he's had DECADES of this shit. That can't be willed away.

Stede's resolution to the curse conflict models a healthier method and one that I'm hoping we see in a future episode between Ed/Izzy. He validates the crew's feelings, make a sacrifice (the suit) and TOGETHER they collaborate on a solution to the issue that is mutually satisfactory - he even gets to keep the shirt, as a sort of compromise. It isn't about just making stede or the crew feel better, it's about moving on together.

This happens with Ed and Fang! Ed actually apologises once he realises what, specifically he did wrong. Fang says they're 'sweet' because he beat Ed to death (oof) which outwardly seems like retaliation working - but there has also been an actual apology and Fang wasn't retaliating against Ed, he was standing up for himself - a physical version of saying 'that wasn't OK - you need to change'.

This method of resolution is echoed in the final scene, with stede and ed. They reach an understanding about the pace of their relationship and find a happy medium (holding hands) - mutually satisfied and moving forwards.

Bottom line? I hope we see 1. Ed actually apologise to Izzy and 2. the pair of them outline what it is they want to change in their relationship moving forward, ending the cycle for good.

yeah so my brother was over tonight and after we'd had a heart-to-heart and a gossip i stuck TEEN WOLF on—which he is aware of and knows it's one of my shows, but has never actually watched himself—just for a bit of background bc it was there in my 'continue watching' as i'm never really not watching it lol.

ANYWAYS we continued chattering through it for a while (the majority of eps 1&2) but then he started sporadically paying it more and more attention, till he was eventually commenting and asking me questions etc.

why is this episode ten minutes shorter than the others?

right off the bat i'm sorry but i'm not sold on the necessity of the opening scene. i get it's trying to inject sally into the story more, but it's not as if they're not constantly talking about her. and why would he be scared of swimming?

annabeth saying her home life was great until her stepmother... i checked the book to make sure i wasn't misremembering her dad being awful and yeah she's pretty venomous towards him. what's the motivation for this revision? was frederick in the writer's room

i really like echidna finding them on the train and them escaping to the arch, it makes more sense than "the train's stopped let's go sightseeing"

continuing the themes from the last episode by referring to the trio as monsters from the "monster's" perspective..... that's good stuff ngl

percy and annabeth's banter was top tier this episode

i wasn't sure about it at first but on rewatch i really like the whole "athena got pissed about medusa's head so she let echidna and the chimera into the arch" thing. it's a good follow up to annabeth's blind loyalty to her mother in ep 3. like yesssss it's time for disillusionment it's time to join the side of fuck the gods they don't actually care about us

making the water come up and grab him is a good way to 1. show poseidon helping percy and 2. correct rick's mistake about the location of the mississippi river in relation to the arch. two birds one stone. also the way that part was shot and edited was sick

i know i praised the show's writing but that was about line level stuff. the pacing feels... off. it's slow in some scenes, and then some scenes fly by so quickly. please tell me i'm not the only one who's felt this?

The room was dark and it was full of you and Joel’s heavy breathing. 

“Fuck Joel, that feels so good.” 

You reached Joel’s hand on your hip while he was thrusting fast and deep inside you from behind. He hissed and you could feel his moves were getting messy. (Yes, I’m writing this imagining that scene from Narcos S2 ep 3 lol)

“Fuck baby, I’m gonna cum. Where do you want me to cum?”. 

“Inside, please.” You were on birth control so you didn’t care.

You let out a sigh and said, “Joel, we’ve been keeping our relationship as a secret. We only see each other when Sarah isn’t around. Mostly Friday nights in your bedroom. I feel like you’re only using me as a fuck buddy not your girlfriend. I want a serious relationship. I’m not a prostitute. I know you love Sarah so much and you don’t want to hurt her feelings. I understand, I do. But I love you, Joel. Do you?”

It was late at night, you were on your way home from a girl’s night out and suddenly your car broke down.

“No, no, no , no!” You yelled and went out of your car to see what was happening to your car. Not knowing anything about cars, you tried to open the hood. You only stood there, stared at your car, and put your hands on your hip. You tried calling your dad.

“Of course, he’s probably asleep.” You scoffed.

Not long after that, there was a truck stopped behind your car. You were scared someone might kidnap you but you were also hoping that someone might come and help you.

A man getting off the truck and walking towards you. He was handsome, average height, muscly, brown hair and facial hair. He was masculine and you couldn’t deny that he was your type.

“Need help with that?”  The man asked.

“Uhm.. yes. I don’t really know about cars so I have no idea what to do.” You scratched your head.

“Let me see..” The man held your car hood and looked at your car’s machine. You stood there beside him, watching whatever he did, and a few minutes later he fixed your car.

“Can you try startin’ your car for me?” He faced you and asked.

“Yeah, sure.” You went to the driver’s seat and started your car.

“It works!” You tapped the steering wheel and smiled happily. You walked out of your car and walked to the man. 

“Thank you for helping me. I’m (y/n). I, uh, I haven’t got your name.” You reached out your hand to give him a handshake.

He shook your hand, “Joel.”

“Uhm..What can I do to repay your kindness?” You asked shyly.

“Uhm..Coffee?” He chuckled.

You laughed, “Coffee it is. But it’s late. I doubt there’s a coffee shop that still opens. Can I get your number and buy you a coffee when you’re free?”

“Sure.” He took out his phone and you exchanged numbers.

The two of you have been hanging out since and fell in love.

“But what? Are you embarrassed of me? If you don’t see our relationship further, then maybe this is it. I’m done. I can’t keep doing this when I know there isn’t a future for both of us.” You started tearing up and walked out the house.

As you were holding the handle of the front door, you heard Joel running down the stairs.

“Baby, wait.” Joel grabbed your wrist to stop you from leaving. 

Tears streamed down your face as you faced him. You can see from his face that he was angry at himself for making you cry. 

He cupped your cheeks and said, “I’m sorry. I was wrong. I’m just scared.”

“Scared of what?” You held his wrist and looked him through his eyes.

“I have never been in a relationship after Sarah’s mom left. I just don’t know how Sarah would think if I tell her I have a girlfriend. I’m scared she might hate you.” 

“Joel, I’ll be fine. If she hates me then I’ll go. But we don’t know. There might be chances that she’ll like me. You don’t know that.”

“You’re right, baby. Well, do you want to meet her tomorrow? I’m picking her up at 10 so maybe we can have lunch together, here? I’ll cook.” Joel smiled.

“Sure, I’ll be here by 12.” You gave him a peck on the cheek and he pulled you closer and hugged you.

“I’m sorry and I love you, baby. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

The next morning, you woke up, took a shower, and put on some makeup. After a long time of dilemma choosing which sundress to wear, you decided to wear a white sundress with a yellow floral pattern so that you look nice and friendly. You grabbed your purse and were ready to meet Sarah.

You rang the Miller’s house doorbell. Joel opened the door.

“Hey, you look amazing.”  He gave you a light kiss.

“Thank you.”

You walked in the house and you could smell the delicious meal that Joel had cooked for lunch.

“Sarah! I have someone I want you to meet.” Joel shouted.

“Coming!” Sarah ran down the stairs as her dad called her.

“Hi! (y/n), it’s great to finally meet you. My dad told me a lot about you.” Sarah greeted you with a smile.

“Hi Sarah! Nice to meet you too. Your dad bragged a lot about you. I heard you’re really smart.” You gave Joel a smirk and side eye. 

“Oh, really dad? But yes, I am smart.” Sarah joked. You and Joel laughed.

“Okay, I’m starving. Let’s eat!” Joel invited you to the dining room.

The three of you ate, talked, joked, laughed and enjoyed each other’s company. 

“I didn’t know you’re a great cook Miller.” You said as you shoved another bite to your mouth.

“Well, I got help from Sarah.” Joel looked and smiled at Sarah and she chuckled.

“So, has he proposed?” Sarah asked and looked at you.

You looked at Joel, confused, not expecting this question from Sarah.

“Uhmm..” Joel didn’t know what to say.

“I know you guys have been dating for some months now. I’m not that stupid, dad. I know you’ve been asking me to have a sleepover at Becca’s because you want to go on a date.” 

“Oh!” You were amused and made eye contact with Joel.

“You knew about us the whole time?” Joel was shocked about Sarah knowing.

“Yeah, dad. I was waiting for you to introduce (y/n) to me. I’m glad I’m meeting her now. I think you’re cool, (y/n).”

“Wow, thank you, Sarah. I’ll take that as a compliment.” You smirked at Joel.

“So, are you going to be my mom soon?” Sarah asked.

You and Joel were speechless. 

“Soon.” Joel held your hand and smiled shyly as he couldn’t hide his happiness.

You knew he was joking since you have been together for a short time but you couldn’t hide the feelings of butterflies in your stomach.

After lunch, Sarah went to her room. Joel washed the dishes and you hugged him from behind. 

“See? She likes me. Mission success.” You whispered to Joel’s ear.

“I’m sorry I doubted you, baby.” Joel faced you as he turned off the faucet.

“Uh-huh, I’m gonna make her like me more than she likes you, Miller.” You teased Joel as you went closer to his face. 

“I love you so much, Mrs. Miller.” Joel teased you back and boop your nose with his index finger.

“That’s wet.” You scrunched and wiped your nose. Joel threw his head back and laughed as he wiped his hands on his jeans. 

“Do you like the name?” Joel asked and cupped your cheeks.

“Of course. It sounds cute. Mrs. Miller. I like that.” You looked through his puppy eyes and kissed him deeply.

It has been 3 months since the break up, will you say you're over him? no. You haven't met that guy since that day, you wanted to show him your gratitude.

"Oh my God, we met finally, I was waiting for you to call me, I'm hurt that you didn't" that voice. You turned around to see it was your ex. You wanted to run away. He grabbed your wrist "let's go yeah?" You grabbed his hand which was holding your hand "you're inflicting me pain".

months passed by ever since you came back and you and heeseung didn’t waste anymore time. he finally asked the long overdue question of being his girlfriend, you immediately said yes, not even letting him finish the sentence. he asked you if you wanted to move in with him, you said yes, of course and now his horrible flower arrangement that you still take care of very dearly is now on the dining table. 

you two caught up with each other, of course. with the deal of catching up right after the wedding, you and heeseung—still in your long dress and him in his tux—went around town. heeseung finally got to take you in that field full of flowers he always went to when he misses you too much. now, it’s where you two always go to. you even watched the sunrise and sunset there. you also had the idea of going back to your university, to wear your togas because you two never had a picture together when your batch graduated.

and just like back then, heeseung would drop you off to work as he would go to the hospital and when the day ends, he picks you up and you two would laze around. every day off was spent together, sometimes sunoo and jungwon would drop off, saying you two owe them a lot for doing their best of getting the two of you back together.

eight months later, heeseung’s eyes flutter open as the sun rays have no trouble getting in the room. he sighs, closing his eyes as he turns around, arm extending to your spot. which is empty. heeseung opens his eyes to see the big space of the bed. he sits up, looking around, only seeing the two cats that he impulsively adopted three years ago. “y/n, flower?” heeseung calls, but no answer. no, no, no, no. 

heeseung jumps off the bed, opening the door as he looks around the apartment. you’re not in the living room, not in the kitchen. nowhere. he goes back in the room, opening the closet to see your clothes. where the fuck are you?

“hey,” 

he turns around, seeing you in your pajamas, with his white bathrobe on. you were standing right outside the bathroom. heeseung sighs in relief, running his fingers through his hair. you knew it right away.

“i’m here, i’m sorry.” you say, walking towards him as you pull him in a hug. heeseung wraps his arms around your waist, resting his cheek on your head. “i’m sorry. i’m not going anywhere, okay? never doing that again.”

“i’m sorry.” heeseung softly says. “i trust you, i just really get paranoid.”

“no, no, no. i get you.” you softly say, looking up at him as he looks at you. you press a kiss on his chin and he smiles. “what do you want for breakfast?”

“anything.” he answers.

“anything,” you repeat and he hums. “sunoo’s mint choco—”

“anything, but that.” heeseung cuts you off, making you laugh. “come on, let’s find whatever we can.” he says, holding your hand as he pulls you with him to the kitchen.

“not ramen, okay?” you say and heeseung whines. “we already had ramen yesterday.”

after hours of lazing around, you two went down to the field of flowers to watch the sunset, sitting on the ground where heeseung laid a blanket for you two. you noticed your boyfriend acting weird as he keeps touching the left side of his blazer on the chest area. “seungie,” you call and he hums, subtly touching his chest on the left side. “you okay?”

“yeah, why?” he asks, touching the same spot again and you look at it, then back to him.

“are you sure?” you ask and he nods, kissing your cheek as he pulls you closer to him as you two watch the sun set with the moon on the opposite side. it was getting dark, the skies turning pink. it was always beautiful here around this time, but you couldn’t focus because of your boyfriend being weird.

“yes,” he nervously chuckles. “you? you okay?”

“mhm,” you softly hum. “actually, i’m a bit cold.” you lie through your teeth and heeseung frowns. “can i borrow?” you ask, softly tugging on his blazer to which he removes, but he stops when his hand brushes on the spot that he’s been patting over and over again for the past hour that you’ve been here.

“no,” he says, fixing it back and you look at him weirdly. “can i hug you instead?”

you chuckle, shaking your head as you turn back to the sun. “it’s really beautiful, isn’t it?” you say and heeseung nods, but his eyes weren’t on the sun. they were on you. always on you.

“the best view.” he says and you look at him to see he didn’t even look at the sunset. “i lo-view.” he says, wiggling his eyebrows as he laughs and you try to scowl at him, but the corners of your mouth are lifting up. he touches the left side of his chest again and you look at him. he only smiles at you and you chuckle.

“come here,” you mumble, holding your hands out to which he comes forward, fitting his face in between your hands as he presses his lips against yours. your hands slide up to his hair, softly running through his locks until it decides to rest on heeseung’s nape. heeseung tilts his head to avoid bumping his nose against yours as he rests an arm around your waist and the other hand on your arm.

slowly, your hand comes down to his sternum as you keep kissing him. then, your slowly slide your hand under the blazer to which heeseung immediately grabs your hand before you can even touch what it was he’s been patting.

you giggle against his lips as he keeps kissing you. “no.” was the only thing heeseung said with a chuckle as he kept kissing your lips.

you laugh, but heeseung didn’t stop kissing your lips nor did you pull away and open your eyes. “seungie,” you softly say, giggling. “please?” you sweetly ask and he hums.

“five more minutes,” he says against your lips, moving impossibly closer as he clips your hand in between his knees which makes you laugh louder, but still, he doesn’t stop kissing you. “don’t judge me. you never kissed you.” he mumbles, tilting his head on the other side as he keeps kissing you. “if you did, you would understand.”

as you kiss him back, your free hand attempts to go to his blazer again, but heeseung grabs it right away, intertwining his fingers with yours. “seungie,” you softly giggle, but he still kept kissing you. “honey,” you say and even though you didn’t want to, you pulled away. “come on.” 

“one more?” he says and you shake your head causing him to sigh. “okay, i should just get over it.” he says more to himself, turning to you. “do you think we’re insane for not taking our relationship slow?”

you chuckle. “seungie, we weren’t together for six years. when we said taking things slow, we literally took it to another level.” you say and heeseung chuckles. “we’re doing good right now, right?”

he nods, pressing his lips into a thin line. you look at him to see him keeping his eyes down. you softly sigh, hand reaching out to his blazer. this time, he doesn’t stop you. you reach the inner pocket, feeling the velvet fabric of the small box. you grab it, pulling it out of his blazer as you look at it, then to heeseung who was just avoiding your eyes.

“talked to anyone about this?” you ask.

“jay,” he answers. “and… felix.”

you nod. “what did they say?” you ask.

“we waited for each other for six years, they don’t see a problem with it.” heeseung says and you nod. “but… we never talked about it before and maybe i’m jumping way ahead of you or… maybe we’re moving too fast? i don’t know.”

“what do you think?” you ask.

“i don’t want to do anything if you’re—”

“don’t think about me, heeseung.” you say, shaking your head as you point your finger to him. “what do you think about our relationship? are we moving too fast? slow? what?”

heeseung looks at you, sighing. “i think we’re fine,” he says. “we’re great. we love each other, we fixed everything. you’re my soulmate, you’re my best friend, you’re my missing piece. i… i just feel so great when i’m with you and there’s nothing to wait for, right? you said back then, time doesn’t really matter. what we feel for each other doesn’t increase because of time. it increases because of how safe we feel with each other and how we keep on getting to know each other everyday.” heeseung chuckles nervously, looking at you. “on the practical side, we’re both happy with our jobs, our positions. we’re both financially stable. we’re good, i know that. i know you said not to think about you, but that’s the only missing thing. how do you feel about this?”

you press your lips into a thin line, looking at him. heeseung feels the difficulty in deciphering what you think, but he knows, if you’re not ready, you’ll let him down easy and talk to him properly. because that’s what made you two great, proper communication.

you move, facing him as you get on your knees, sitting on the back of your feet. you take his hand, looking at him as you place the box on his hand. “do it.” you softly say and heeseung looks at you, processing what you just said. you lightly raise your brows and he immediately gets in the same position as you, facing you. 

“i’ve practically said my speech,” heeseung starts and you softly laugh. “but most of the times, i feel scared with every move that i make, in fear of doing something wrong. but with you, i just have to talk to you and i’m just not scared anymore. there are things we know are wrong, but sometimes, we just have to make mistakes to get where we want. and i don’t know where the hell my speech is leading because i don’t feel like i’ve done any mistakes when i’m with you—oh, well, except when i denied my feelings for you.”

you smile at him which made his smile bigger.

“but the moment i admitted my feelings for you, everything fell into place. shit happened and i’m willing to go through them again as long as the other end leads to you.” heeseung says, opening the box and turning the ring to you. “so, would you like to spend the rest of your life with me? you can have this ring as a freebie.”

you and heeseung laugh at his line. “you know ‘will you marry me’? they’re still okay!” you laugh and heeseung joins along, shrugging. “of course, seungie. i would love to spend the rest of my life with you.” you smile and heeseung takes the ring off the box, holding your hand as he slides it with ease on your ring finger. “it fits perfectly.”

“yeah, i secretly measured your finger when you were sleeping.” heeseung says and you giggle. you cup his jaw, pressing your lips against his and heeseung kisses back right away. “you wanna get married now? town hall is just near.” he says against your lips and you laugh, causing him to smile wide.

“you’re crazy.”

🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (127) Oh NO Mrs Wicker get your children away from that Church!!!! I love to hear the J-sibs starting to push back against her, long may it continue! I'm also still obsessed with the Raven-Writing Desk dynamic and it's only going to get juicier when Mr Writing Desk actually wants to follow Penny’s demands… And Danielle!! I love that she still gets to be an active help in the mission to the North in a way that doesn’t feel like deus ex machina because it’s just her. 

🎞 Tiny Terrors (022) this episode had me yelling ‘what’s the catch?!?!?’ internally and I’ve just seen that the wait is over to listen to the other side of the tape!! Angela, what are you??

🌍 @lastechoespod (7) As some of you may know. . . I am a huge fan of Drs in Space. This episode had me gripped, those poor people 😭 What a cruel scare tactic from the Collected for that to be played to the people trying to decide whether to join. I’m so tense to hear what the final archival selection is going to be! 

🧛‍♂️ @re-dracula Things are TENSE aboard the Demeter. Even in <60s of audio, the creeping dread is so palpable. And Mina, sweet Mina! So thrilled to have her back! Listening rather than reading has makes it so much easier to parse the long, chunky sections describing Whitby!! I have high hopes that I'm going to stick with it to the very end this time.

 💫 Wolf 359 (24-32) Oh fuck. I am so glad I have all the episodes to listen to at once. I could NOT have dealt with the wait between seasons. Ep 30, Mayday, is possibly one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. I love that feeling of rooting for a character so hard that you forget that they don’t really exist and that you know they make it because there are another 30 eps of the show left. And the new characters - Kepler, Jacobi, Maxwell - wow, I LOVE to hate them. They’re fantastic in the worst way. 

🎩 @ethicstownpod (5) Things got a little creepy on the emergency broadcast this week. Memory is created as it is recalled?? What?? My mind is boggled. I’m very excited to hear how this, and what seems to be a growing discomfort between January and Artemis, plays out in the next episodes! 

🥾@doyoucopypod (3) Now. Hear me out. I know that being stuck up in a radio tower all day has got to be boring but I do think there might be a better time to flirt with your colleague than when 3 people are missing in a place called the ‘Dead Zone’ where strange ecological events are occurring . . . Just me?? Have I got the braincell here??? I’m so excited for these shenanigans to get even spookier. 

🏴‍☠️ Yeah. I listened to @levianpod again. What are you going to do? Support their crowdfunder? Good. Do it.

🎧 Such an interesting episode of The First Episode Of with @wirelandranch! The wireland vibes have always been immaculate and it’s so interesting to learn about where it came from and why it’s an amalgamation rather than a straight-up audio drama. 

🐬 Described as a weird mystery, @patterspod is exactly that. It’s batshit in the best possible way. Perhaps I hang out with strange people, but the main character is so normal in his weirdness, I feel like most people know a guy like Ryan even though Ryan is a liar ghostwriter trying to hunt down his thieving EX-boss with ?paranormal connections. It’s great stuff. 

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! My goal is to have season two of the show written by the start of August . . . So I should stop writing this and get to writing that . . . Right? Okay.

holy. fuckin'. DAMN. I was pretty good at predicting the plot so far, but this episode proved that stampede is going in a whole new direction for real. spoilers for ep 9!!! (and manga a bit)

first of all, we still haven't got a full story of the great fall, but I think it's something they'll reveal in this season, probably during confrontation with knives. and still no scar reveal!! I'm angy but it's something that could be relevant to the standoff with knives, hope we'll get it

the piano scene... oh we're eating GOOD, it's just so wholesome but goes to confirm my theory that twins weren't completely fine on the ship. vash feeling useless because he can't do cool plant shit, knives envying vash for being good at human shit.... oh it's great

so glad knives is getting proper characterization and not just "he evil because he evil"! the fear, the hurt, the genuine care for vash, but then frustration with him – it's right there and I'm eating it up so yummy

the way they recontextualized vash's arm loss is GORGEOUS! I've seen ppl reading this scene differently, but to me it was an act of care from naï. he looks really scared for a reason: we see that the gate consumed all matter, including the hand. vash couldn't control it, so it would only grow bigger and destroy him. NAÏ REALIZED THIS AND SAVED VASH THE ONLY WAY HE COULD

he didn't want to fight him, this was not an act of anger, like in previous versions. all he cared about in that moment was saving his twin..... and what did he get in return? a gun pointed to his face. a gun he gave vash to kill human scum. oh, the DRAMA

ahem, now to the less intense stuff

I'm quite curious on how they're gonna characterize him in the next season. concidering that we're taking off earlier than previous versions, he might end up with the same unhinged vibe 98' vash had, as a coping mechanism (if depression didn't work, try dissociation and silliness). but then it would be even more interesting to see meryl's and wolfwood's reactions: they knew him before the accident and saw the big sad

vash has sense in the prosthetic arm, so it must've hurt when he damaged it... probably it hurts less than the real one, and it's clearly painless to take off. but the hand seems to be rather sensitive and fic writers are gonna go crazy for this

age reveal! also brad and luida being in cryosleep makes sense, I was racking my brain on how they're still alive. seems like they're using much more plant power tho... both for cryo and the vegetation, while in manga they tried to keep it as low as possible and send signals to earth

saw someone say that they're probably not doing that here because the earth is destroyed... could be that they decided to go the hard way. but in the manga the earth was still fucked, and it wasn't clear if they communicated with the ppl left on the planet or the fleet that was in some new place. what I'm saying is, there is a possibility that they are looking for help in stampede, we just don't know it yet

My weekly roundup CW 20

I try to write down my thoughts after watching stuff to create a little weekly ranking in relation to the previous week on my, most of the times, quiet sundays (and because I love lists!). These are just my personal opinions and preferences.

And yes, this will contain spoilers!

The Promise is on hiatus this week. I guess it is because they wanted to end the series on WeTV and their Youtube channel on the same day.

→ 1. Love Mate (Ep 5+6)

Most adorable scene this week:

Ahhh, yes, I am obsessed with the series. I love them and don't want to miss them! Sunshine guy and Grumpy Guy are so precious. And grumpy guy is slowly becoming sunshine guy No 2. I love how happy he looks when he is with sunshine guy. I still didn't quite get the pool date and we were robbed of an underwater kiss! It was the perfect opportunity!!!! And they don't need to fool us. They are not date mates. They are a couple. I think it's cute how sunshine guy plays along, even though he actually knows full well that grumpy guy and him are a couple, but so as not to scare him away, he just plays along. The second thing I didn't understand, why don't they sleep together in the same bed? The solution to the problem was of course very adorable and I almost exploded because of the concentrated cuteness of the scene. I would have liked it even more if grumpy guy had climbed down to sunshine guy of his own accord and hugged him from behind. But I don't want to complain. The scene is burned into my memory forever now. And yes, the end of episode 6 fucked me up. Sunshine Guy! Go to him. Take him in your arms! Don't run away! But maybe he just knows grumpy guy well enough to know that he might have closed himself off in that moment. That fucked up ex-boyfriend. It was obvious that he would still play a role. You better not fuck this up in the finale!

↑ 2. La Pluie (Ep 4)

Most surprising kiss this week:

I'm squealing! I was really afraid that there would be a huge problem when Patts found out that Saengtai knew they were soulmates. But with that I am not mad. The kiss on the other hand…Yes, Saengtai initiated it, but Patts was willing to go quite a few steps further. Boy, Saengtai was drunk off his ass! No thought of getting into his pants there. But well, who hasn't made out with someone while drunk? I'll let it slide. Oh man, my critical eyes are really going blind when I like a scene. Not saying it was a good choice of writing the first kiss! Second point…Patts. Talk to your ex, please. Silence has never helped anyone. Especially not in front of love contaminated people. So tell her, hey, I found my soulmate and now I will start a new happy life with him. Other than that, Saengtai and Patts are both like sugar to me. I find their interactions so cute and want to permanently pinch their cheeks. The series definitely manages to pick up from week to week. I'm a little scared when it comes to the drama. I'm not going to like it, but honestly, we're on episode 4 of 12. There's a whole bunch more drama to come…And I'm not ready for it!

→ 3. Happy Merry Ending (Ep 7+8 Final)

The most smitten guy of the week:

Episode 7 I will simply banish from my memory again. But that was exactly what I feared last week. Namely that JaeHyun reminds SeungJun way too much of his ex with his manner. He couldn't offer him any protection at that moment. And I understand SeungJun so much that he sends JaeHyun away, that he wants to be alone, that he wants to protect himself. It's all been so new for him, he was too overwhelmed with the new relationship, because he himself wasn't ready yet from the head. Yes, JaeHyun gave him peace when they were together, but when he was alone, he was vulnerable again. He himself needs to learn to stop being vulnerable and attackable to his ex in order to be a good partner in the future and address and overcome his trauma because: Love cannot heal everything. But even though JeungJun sent JaeHyun away, it was his love that made JeungJun finally take control of his life. He had to make that decision himself to become stronger. And when he is ready, he just hopes that JaeHyun will forgive him…If we were to dive into reality at this point, we would realize that this is wishful thinking. How often does it happen that one person waits so long for another and that other person actually gives a sign at some point, like "Hey, I still like you"? The story would have actually ended at the point when JeungJun asks JaeHyun to leave and compares him to his disgusting ex. That would have been my breaking point, anyway. But, we are not in reality, but in the beautiful world of BL. And here, with the last episode, we get our happy ending, as we hoped for. And may I say at this point that I now wish we had heard more songs from JaeHyun? What a beautiful voice! Makes him even more handsome. I liked the story. I liked that JeungJun managed to turn his life around on his own. I liked the look on JaeHyun's face when he looks at JeungJun. I liked their absolutely cozy looking togetherness. I liked their romance.

↑ 4. Our Skyy 2 (Ep 9+10)

Okay, I was so afraid Our Skyy would ruin my favorites, but shit, was it fun! Would I have liked to see Tinn and Gun navigate their lives with each other after school with new challenges? Absolutely. Do I think the role reversal idea is bad? Not really. It's very amusing to see Gemini and Fourth play each other's roles and give them their own character traits. And they came up with some really good jokes. I was on the floor laughing. The dance scene was so over the top. The whole scene after the exam when they were in each other's arms…I couldn't take it anymore! And to add TiwsonPor as an already existing couple - chef's kiss. They know exactly what they are doing. This is fanservice at its finest. I love it when a show is aware of its fans and what they want, and when they don't just throw it out there, but incorporate in well into the plot. This is so fanfiction!!! It's like the writers and everyone involved really paid attention and saw where the mistakes or inconsistencies were with the original series and now they're making fun of them in an excellent way. Best scene: the guys are all in a room together and Gun and Tinn are flirting with each other and the guys are nagging them not to be so loud. That's realistic for a change. All in all, I liked the episodes of Our Skyy so much more than the previous ones.

↓ 5. My Story (Ep 6)

I don't care about this week! Please don't let Zeke be late for that stupid school event next week and what's with Drake and him? The drama belongs with Sky and Win. Not in our little sanctuary Zeke x Fifth heaven. I resent that! This week was soooo cute again! Fifth is just still very unsure if he can be enough and satisfy Zeke, and Zeke may give him something to doubt there when he agrees to Kim's event even though he promised to be at the school event. And I can already somewhat imagine next week that drama can arise through that. Although I can also understand Zeke wanting to fuel his career as a photographer a bit with the assignment from Kim. These two are going to break my heart before they painstakingly patch it back together. And just between us, I probably wouldn't mind to see their reconciliation in the end.

↓ 6. Our Dining Table (Ep 7)

A kiss? Really now? Not that I think there was really a kiss with the camera shot like that, but still! Brave Minoru! Aside from the kiss, it was another nice, stable episode. Yutaka is opening up to Minoru and Tane is such an empathetic boy, it's heartbreaking. And the dad is my absolute favorite! I think among all of us, he's the biggest shipper of the two!

↑ 7. Step by Step (Ep 5)

Jeng and Pat are so side tracked in my mind right now. Yes, there is progress, they slept in a bed together and you can tell they both already know they like the other. And at the end there was this totally romantic scene with fireworks in the background that screamed for a kiss and then the cut came…okay…but, what really stuck in my mind? My ambivalent feelings about Jaab and Jane. But I did some soul-searching. One of my favorite series is Love Mechanics…so who am I to judge? Yes, Jane fucked up, but shit happens in this world. That doesn't excuse anything, but I'm selfish and I want these two to get together. They both like each other. And of course Jaab doesn't hide it, but he never makes the first move. So it's absolutely clear that Jane is equally attracted to Jaab. So much that he crosses lines he shouldn't. The affair, or even a fling, has a certain tingle, the whiff of something forbidden. It's morally reprehensible and yet the subject matter is always found in the media and people are drawn to it. Why? Because it shows emotions very raw and pure. Because desire for a person is depicted, which otherwise can hardly be transported through the medium. Because it means that the desire for this person, be it purely sexual or even romantic, is so great that one accepts the moral contempt. Because in some moments you have no control over your thoughts and your body. Because it is a temptation that people would like to give in to, at least in their thoughts. It means giving up control to your heart and even if you have never had the thought of cheating, you can still understand what can happen in your body and head. So yeah, I'm not mad about it at the end of this week. I'm excited to see what happens next and I'm eager to see when they get to their happy ending and what other obstacles are put in their way.

↑ 8. A Boss and a Babe (Ep 12 Final)

Most ridiculous dialogue of the week:

The finale surprised once again. How pissed I was at first when it turned out to be just a dream…I hate that. That is one of the shittiest placeholder…fucking dream sequences. And then also at the end of the last episode, so it can't be resolved until the next episode either. That hit home. After that, it was a sugar fest. So much sweetness and romance. Was a little too much for my stunted heart. But it was the conclusion I think we all thought and hoped for. The friends group is and remains my favorite of the series and especially the fact that they have accepted Gun into their group like that and he visibly feels at home there. The roof terrace at the end was a bit much for me. If my partner did that, I'd probably be throwing up rainbows and cotton candy. But anyway. I'm excited to see what happens next week with Our Skyy 2…The preview looked…exhausting, to put it nicely.

↓ 9. Naked Dining (Ep 6)

Oh, Futa… What are you doing? You're dreaming about Mahiro kissing you. Do you want me to interpret it for you? Your subconscious has already figured out that you like him. Your subconscious is trying to tell you what you want, you just have to listen and let it happen. Instead, you're talking about getting married and starting a family. And the look on Mahori's face spoke volumes. He's so hurt and disappointed. He really thought you guys were making progress after Futa's talk of fate, that you found each other again. Oh man. This is so frustrating. All the better that Mahiro told him the truth in the end and leaves Futa alone with his thoughts now. I'm excited to see what happens next.

→ 10. House of Stars (Ep 3)

I found the episode so boring and uninteresting and I don't understand the dynamic going on. I don't get what the relationship is supposed to be between Gun and Pitch. Pitch is obsessed with Gun and Gun doesn't like him, but tolerates him and sometimes looks at him like he's in love with him and is nice to him. And on the other hand, we have So, who is clearly into Pitch and Pitch kind of likes him, but by the portrayal of his character, I really can't see any feelings from Pitch. And yeah, the choice of how he conveys the character is really not working for me. I don't like it. And Pitch is such an unlikable character. He knows he's going to screw up, again and again and again and doesn't learn from it and again and again others have to bail him out while is standing there grinning...Yes, I'm dropping it at this point.

(the Widely Established Fanlore of it all XD) although that's also been also been folding in the face of. all the colin posts (like Specifically colin too past even colin+raphaniel or colin+deli). like they fell for the cr bait so hard- group of fans starved for mlm content based on their typical cr diet, see a guy (Just Some Guy) looking the way he was, see his mysterious past and divorce and arc and glowup and post-divorce talks and. yknow. whaddya gonna do. that's all they're gonna talk about when the EXPLICITLY mlm radish priest who's been grooming that VERY SAME cheese guy for five years is right there.

anyways i'm going to write all that off anon and pretend i'm not deathly scared of invoking the wrath of cr fans after that thing on twitter

IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY FUNNY YEAH. gonna address the colin part first then talk about my problems with the season under a spoiler. listen I think deli & colin are very real in that deli wants him SO bad but it's crazy that people are dancing around colin's whole thing with raphaniel. like what do you guys think was going on there 😭 'he's his babysitter' SAY IT OUT LOUD! he was fucking that radish

now for my thoughts about the plot and pacing of ravening war

I do not like that this season (that was supposed to be about a war covering 7+ years of intense political conflict and full-scale warfare involving every country in the continent) got boiled down to 2 massive timeskips & 3 battle episodes of five guys fucking around in a cave because the entire war was actually started by a secret cult. there were no battles involving the actual war + 1 skill check for entire 5 years at a time + almost nothing politics wise + they missed the ENTIRE climatic final push for the end of the war because they were underground. it's so poorly paced, I really don't know what to say. am I the crazy one here for wanting a season about the ravening war to be about the war? it just doesn't feel like the characters had any impact on the plot past episode 3 and they ONLY because they kill the queen of candia because a cult told them to. because we get alliances forged and broken and conflicts ended and rulers crowned within the span of a single sentence from the DM before we chug back off to the mycelium hivemind main plot. hot take but every season does not in fact need a plot twist big bad to fight

all of the characters in the season are genuinely the most interesting characters I've seen in YEARS. it's a goddamn shame we didn't get to spend more time with them. it sucks that each of them brought so much intrigue and backstory to the war, but every single one of them ended up contributing not much at all to the scale of the campaign because, again, the final boss turned out to be a cult within the top secret cult of mushrooms that was ALREADY a secret but there is also ANOTHER, more powerful deity to fight in the very last episode. we needed more episodes, or less time spent on battles. we needed to not bring on a DM known for having all the time in the world to wrap up years-long campaigns in 5 hour chunks at a time, for a 6 ep miniseason. we did not need two more powerscaled deities for no reason to a war that should have been about the people and not... random alien eldritch forces. we needed closure on amangeaux's child, we needed to know WHY raphaniel was poisoning the king and starting a war in the first place. aabria wrote a whole essay about karna's backstory that I would've loved to see in the show itself, but... we didn't get to see it! there were almost no politics. we did get 4 separate secret underground mushroom fights though. in a campaign about a war.

"real life is messy! not everything gets wrapped up neatly! it reflects real wars!" this is a dnd show sir and when you spend 20 minutes out of 12 hours of content actually talking politics and the rest of the time fucking around with mushrooms in a cave, it starts to look less like a deliberate artistic choice and more like poorly paced plot threads that didn't get a chance to finish.

Dangerous Romance Ep 3 Stray Thoughts

Last week, Kanghan took his bullying to maximum levels, but got dunked on by his own grandmother when she called out his bullshit in front of the principal and then hired Sailom as his tutor. Kanghan continued to lose to Sailom, so fucked with his money by accusing him of being a sex offender in the parents’ chat. Kanghan took a gun to Sailom’s house to try and intimidate him only to find him being beaten by debt collectors. Kanghan scared them off, and we left at Sailom still in shock as his brother arrived late.

Oh, good we’re picking up with the gun. Let’s not forget that he took a fucking gun to Sailom’s house. Perth’s characters waving guns around dangerously is the GMMTV theme of the year.

Compensation for losing your job? Look, I read a bunch of negative takes on Sailom of Wedding Plan for fucking with Nuea’s money when it wasn’t actually a big deal there. It is a big deal here! Kanghan was actively fucking with his money! Kanghan called Sailom a pedo and cut off his tutoring gig!

Kanghan went to the library smelling like soccer? I don’t know about that.

I love them putting a PS5 on a coffee table so we can see that Kanghan has money as he talks about how he’s not going to study. It’s not even plugged into anything!

Kanghan seems really nervous around his dad. It feels a bit out of sync with the way his dad seems to have no expectations of him.

I don’t know how I feel about the implications that Sailom has had feelings for Kanghan already with the way he’s nervous about holding onto him, and then smiling about it. I really hate stories of gay boys having crushes on their bullies.
