Alonzo's highest level of praise comes from his respect - if he respects you, you're good in his books. Even if he doesn't *like* you, persay, he will tolerate your presence and maybe even hold his tongue if you're lucky.

If he likes you *and* respects you, you basically have a cat in your corner for life. It's hard to meet his level of loyalty then.

thick, rough fingers curled around the neck of the bottle on the shelf before him, the stink of liquor still on his breath, intoxication barely influencing his coordination or judgement —- or so he thought. alonzo wasn’t particularly familiar with japan, his japanese bare bones enough to hold a conversation, pronunciation muddled by a thick, unforgiving italian accent; the remnants of his former marriage driving him further into despair, eagerness to learn interrupted by the need for revenge. it was then he noticed the presence of another beside him, a much more formal appearing japanese man, one whose struggles didn’t seep into his appearance. a brief narrowing of the eyes illustrated alonzo’s frustration, his hatred of other men not one of rightful anti-patriarchal criticism, but instead of a belief that he was superior to all of them. including @quirofiliac. swiftly, his expression recovered into a “neutral” one, obscuring sincere resentment. perhaps … a facade was necessary, a kind one.

“ are you looking for something specific? ” low, gravelly voice betrayed little of his true nature, dark hues remaining fixated on the blond beside him. “ i can grab it if you want. ” mockery in disguise. how pathetic. i have the upper hand. —- all while incapable of obscuring his repugnant liquor-induced scent. “ or do you want recommendations? ”

Miguel wasn't a violent man, but lately the subject before him was tearing his calm strings almost on purpose. You remained curt and polite towards him, avoiding as much small talk as possible with him, even made sure to show him that no man could actually compete against Miguel.

"Just ignore him" You had said to an apparently calm and serene Miguel that kept giving cold and warning glances at him.

The kids were away, doing a small routine and pre-work out before actually starting the game. Some of the parents took a turn into bringing the kids foods and snacks for later. It was your turn. You were unpacking the beverages in the cooler as Miguel was setting up the table with some lunchables and other baked goods you had prepared. Benjamin was spending a day with Peter and Mayday.

"I'll get the ice." The Parking lot was a few meters away from the field, away from the parents. You took the car's keys and walked over the trunk to get a few packages of ice.

"You need help?" The too familiar and raspy voice made you flinch in uncomfortableness.

"No, Thanks." Your voice was firm, the man, your allegedly fan, was a relative of Victor's dad. A cousin of the sorts. Despite having the previous clash, you somehow had worked it out just for the sake of Gabriela and the team. Still, you all kept your distance from each other to avoid any unnecessary interaction. Until, Alonzo, your fan approached.

"Ah, c'mon preciosa, those bags look heavy."

"Not your business anyways. Kindly, go away, you're making me uncomfortable."

Alonzo held his hands in defense, but your anger made one of the bags to slip and fall from your hands. Alonzo took the bag and touched your shoulder firmly

"Don't you fucking touch me! " You seethed loud enough as you flinched.

"Ay, corazón. You should be grateful that I'm helping you here. Look at the mess you're-"

A loud smack connected to his jaw, doubling him in pain as he stumbled on his feet. Alonzo struggled to keep on his feet as he fell on the floor.

"Como vuelvas a tocar a mi esposa, te rompo más que la puta cara, cabrón!" (If you ever touch my wife again, I'll not only fuck up your fucking face, dipshit.)

He growled as your eyes widened in shock. Some parents had witnessed the whole thing, some approached, Victor's dad included.

The kids were still in their practice, oblivious to the small fight that had broke out.

Alonzo was taken out of the field as Victor's dsd apologized, shame in his face. Alonzo still had the guts to actually threaten Miguel between broken mumbles.

The once familiar ambience dissipated, leaving a tense and awkward energy to linger. It had also been a shock to you, it was the first time in actually seeing Miguel so angry that he went physical on someone.

You remained quiet as you patched his swollen knuckles.

"You ok?" Despite him being the injured one, he asked for your well-being.

"Yeah. just... Let's forget it." your tone meek, as you gently applied ice on his hand.

Cruella De Vil x Reader || Drabble

Plot: Saying it. Admitting i like you more than I thought. Meaning the stronger word.

Cruella De Vil

You hold your spoon inside the tub of yoghurt you were hoeing into post-coition with Cruella, sat up on her bench which you know she doesn't like you doing; only socks, clean underwear and a big shirt on that she also despises, and look over at her.

She's not dressed up, either, for once. Her hair is a fluffy spiky mess looking only slightly different to how she actually styles it (You could say that you styled it this time, with your fingers, but she would huff at you and roll her eyes), a silky black slip on which is contrasting with her pale skin, and a simple matching dressing gown. She almost looks normal, ordinary, perusing her fancy refrigerator and getting out a jug of milk. You know, not evil.

You feel enamoured with her, and so lucky that she let's you see her like this. That she allows it.

If she doesn't scare you,

No evil thing will.

She looks so tired, having thoroughly gotten her work out from you just then in her room, almost like the cranky middle aged woman she is and not the insane monster she... well also is. But she shows off that side of her a lot more and you don't often get to see this one!- so it's more significant.

You watch her wander her kitchen and find a glass, pouring herself the milk and then leaning back on the bench to drink it; looking focused and thoughtful out the dark windows. Probably thinking about work she has to do tomorrow, or whatever she was talking to Skinner on the phone about earlier. Whatever poor defenseless animal she's having removed from its skin so she can wear it. Her eyes are so pretty, even with day-old mascara speckled underneath them and old-lady wrinkles- dark, and striking. Scary to look into but you kinda like that. She's your dragon lady.

To see her is to take a sudden chill,

With a pleasant, all-done feeling brewing still in the pit of your belly from a couple minutes ago and a yoghurt you know very well she bought for you and you alone (Cruella doesn't like snacks, she's told you before. She has meals or nothing at all which you find to be an interesting her-thing) in your hand you have the sudden overwhelming urge to tell her how wonderful you find her.

Cruella, Cruella De Vil

In order to put it off, you scoop a spoonful of the creamy treat into your mouth and take your time savouring it; also looking out the windows into the night. It's the Greek kind and without sugar, the only way Cruella could justify it to herself buying it you're sure, but you like it. It's delicious, and she thought of you while ordering Alonzo to fetch her groceries.

After a few moments your eyes slip back over to her. She hasn't moved, other than to run a hand through her hair adjusting the crazy mane ever so slightly (it whooshes right now instead of whooshing left), and your feet start to swing a little watching her. The happiness you get from just being near to her spreading from the tip of your nose to your toes in comfy socks dangling off the side of her kitchen bench.

She notices you, of course, looking like a pleased puppy dog at her but doesn't react much except to flick her eyes pointedly away from you- acknowledging your silliness but not bothered by it, and takes another sip of milk. Not a bit ends up on her top lip. Cruella's classy like that.

The curl in her lips,

The ice in her stare.

As you continue to look her way in the quiet middle of the night, the usually cold apartment covered in floor to ceiling windows and a water feature in the livingroom seeming to almost feel comfortable and intimate for once, you feel the urge build. You're kind of curious what cruel words she would choose to use to rebuff you telling her. After all no matter what she said, your feelings wouldn't change at all. She couldn't hurt you if she wanted to. You expect her meanness, you don't mind it. You even crave it.

It's bad, it's terrible, it's toxic, you're aware; you just... don't care?

Or you do. Or you think that you should-...

It's complicated.

All innocent children had better beware.

Looking back towards the windows, so dark outside and so light in here that all you can see is the rooms reflection on the glass, you wonder to yourself how would you say it, if you did voice it- right now? Would you tell her she looks beautiful undone? Untogether? Taken apart? Or would that sound too horny?

You do like to fuck her, it's one of your favourite things - making her break her nails on the furniture, - , but it's damn well more then that by now, you're in deep.

How about you're psychotic but I'm into it ?

Polishing off the little tub of yoghurt, you lick the spoon perfectly spotless and take a deep breath. Your legs are cold and your hands are cold and your toes are cold despite the fluffy socks- you feel like you have to say something or you'll never warm up.

Sighing and sticking the spoon into your mouth once more, holding it there you hop off the bench and wander to the bin; stepping carefully with the tip of your toes on the opening mechanism so the lid flies open. You drop the tub and the lid in and then let go of the mechanism- letting it slam shut again. Then you potter over to the sink and wash your spoon.

Cruella is watching you the whole time, you notice, so you're careful to not make a mistake. Put on a good show, be cute in your too-big shirt that she hates.

At first you think Cruella is a devil,

You wonder what she thinks while she watches you? Probably 'ugly shirt'- but what else??

But after time has worn away the shock

You come to realise you've seen her kind of eyes

Watching you

From underneath

A rock.

After you dry the spoon, you turn around with it and, taking a deep breath, you steer yourself towards the drawer it lives in- putting it away right where you found it, just like all other utensils here, just like Cruella will clean and put her glass back when she's done, like no one lives in this apartment; Soulless, as it is. "Cruella... "

"Hmm?"

"... " Twiddling your thumbs, looking everywhere but at her, you search for the right words. Words that'll convey what you mean, but won't kill her - the emotionally unstable crazy person, - to hear. Come on come on, you think, or you'll never be not-cold again. "I used to like you a... certain amount- and it's doubled, now."

Finally you look at her again, searching her face for however she's going to respond leaning back on the bench there with a glass of milk in her hands. Yes, she still looks ordinary- beautiful ordinary- but you know underneath all that pretty middle aged woman there's a creature.

This vampire bat,

This inhuman beast.

Her eyes, tired from a night of your fingers buried in her drawing out her orgasms, are sharp and on you; appraising you. For a moment you think she's going to snap at you, surely,..

But then an amused almost gassed smirk flashes across her face. "... you what?" The quiet spell in the room is broken immediately and your jaw drops open.

She ought to be locked up, and never released.

"Uh- " Is she laughing at you? Really? How do you explain what you've just said. Why did you say it in a riddle?- "It's more- more then before... but l-less then it could be."

She looks deadpanned at you, at that part. "Really?"

"No- well, its actually definitely more rather then less but I just don't want to startle you." You're talking fast now, mincing your words, but the ridiculous gist- you think- is coming through, as Cruella's smirk only broadens; Taking a long and leisurely sip of milk and laughing at you with her eyes while you struggle in front of her.

... its the longest sip in the history of sips and you're about to continue t a l k i n g, which would have been an abominable, atrocious mistake, when finally she speaks again. "That's quite a way to tell someone you're in love with them, darling."

Your lips part, hearing the word come out of Cruellas mouth. How does she even know that word!?-

The world was such

A wholesome place until

"... I guess I feel quite- warmly, towards you too." You're in shock, you're frozen- did Cruella De Vil just say she loves you in her way?? She spoke quickly but you definitely heard i- When you dont reply in a split second, when you're not as fast as she is (Which no one is. Maybe Barry Allen, but even he may struggle to keep up), she rolls her eyes and thrusts her finished glass into your hands. "Oh, don't let it get to your head! Now- clean this, I'm going to bed." Her silk robe brushes coolly against you as she flies off to the bedroom again.

Cruella, Cruella De Vil.

You're left alone piecing together the last few moments of your life with a glass clutched to your chest and a new pleasant, all-done feeling tucked away in the pit of your stomach.

And you're so cozy and warm suddenly.

Since I can never get enough of them, would you happen to have any more spare Demeter/Alonzo thoughts? Anything really - angst or fluff or anything in between ^_^

Fluff:

For Alonzo, Demeter is like a siren in the Jellicle Choir; he can hear her singing voice so clearly in each melody and note without having to listen out for it. Her voice was distinctive; it was honeyed, silky, and soothing to the ears. He feels content whenever he hears it; it fills him with so many emotions: comfort, nostalgia, and a longing to bring her closer, hold her tighter, and treasure her. 

A particular moment of significance for him was hearing her sing lullabies to Jemima. Her voice was softer and quieter. As if she herself was still afraid, afraid Macavity might hear, like he was still there, but she remained so focused and dedicated that he couldn't help but admire her more. 

Despite that, he never requested for her to sing. He thought that would ruin the authenticity of it all. It felt stupid to ask; remembering titles was out of the question, and the lyrics seemed to blur together for him. He did remember the melodies; however, Demeter seemed to never sing the same song twice. He did wonder how she knew so many, or if she would make them all up on the spot. 

The one-time Alonzo did remember the lyrics clearly was the morning after the ball. They were alone again in the emptiness of their den while Demeter examined him for any serious damages after his fight with Macavity. He was still indignant but was just trying to force himself to sleep. It wouldn't have worked; he would've stared at the cloth that made up their roof all day and thought of what more he could've done, and Demeter knew that. Funnily enough, when she laid by his side and sang, it was the first time he'd ever heard a lullaby directed towards him.

Angst:

Alonzo told Demeter his third name, only her, and generally that’s seen as extremely  taboo in the tribe. Not in an ostracized way, but more cursing yourself for misfortunes; that’s why it needs to remain secret between a jellicle and the everlasting cat. By telling it to another, you placed them above the everlasting cat in your heart and mind.

But Demeter made the same mistake before; she told Macavity and lived to regret it. To be fair to her, she was pushed to show her commitment to him and to him alone. Macavity was possessive like that; he needed to be the one she held above all else; it was the only way he felt secure that she wouldn’t ever leave or love another. 

She told him hers, but he couldn’t bring himself to share his own. He just held her, and that was enough in the moment. Looking back, she wished she had confronted him or said anything about it. She figured he would, in time, but he never did. It felt as if she were beneath him.

It was a pain and a choice she’s only ever confessed to having done with Alonzo; she didn’t want to relive that moment or that awful memory beyond that. But when Alonzo told her his own after, she informed him he shouldn’t have—it felt wrong to know, she didn’t want to know—he upset her when that was far from his intention and he hated himself for it. 

His love for Demeter was his strength and his undoing in that way- he was always so reckless when it came to her.

Demeter did tell him hers after she calmed down again: she wanted them to be equals; she didn’t want to be above someone she had learned to love again for.

shorter one:

Demeter is quite literally an ice cube when it comes to weather reacting with her fur; she doesn’t get cold easily, but when she does, Alonzo is typically the first to notice. With him being a longhair cat, he’s almost always warm, so when winter comes, Demeter is more often cuddled up with Alonzo. She doesn’t say anything, though; she doesn’t need to. She normally just leans into him; Alonzo won’t admit it, but the chill does shock him sometimes, but it’s also so soothing

Honestly ever since I saw your post of sillabub being their kitten that has been my canon for them, so I do have some head canons based on that: (All Baby!bub btw)

Alonzo’s never been around newborn kittens often enough before joining the junkyard to be aware of their habits, so whenever Sillabub would waddle around and suddenly fall on her back, he’d panic and sometimes scoop her up to make sure she wasn’t hurt, only to discover she was completely fine. He saw her as almost “too fragile,” which wasn’t completely irrational; she was born earlier than expected and needed additional attention compared to the average kit. But to Alonzo, it was like she was made of glass.

So much so that while she was still small, he preferred holding her by the scruff or in his arms rather than letting her follow along.

Ironically, this birthed a rather cheeky habit in Sillabub; she would often bap her dad's spots whenever he was holding her for a longer period of time. The spots weren't completely noticeable from a distance, but they were there—small black spots throughout a bronze and brown coat. Even when she woke up in his arms, she’d often bang him awake. 

Alonzo didn’t understand how or why this became a habit, but at most he didn’t mind; he’d pretend her soft little paw would make any impact on him, often with a louder gasp of indignation that would make Sillabub giggle (and bap him again). 

Demeter would use this to her advantage; whenever Alonzo was particularly reluctant to get up in the morning (he always would get up; it was just slow progress), she’d often set Sillabub on his back or his stomach and let her bap away until he was wide awake again and could pick her up.

In the rare cases where Sillabub got too excited and wouldn't stop bapping her father, Demeter would make the claim that if she didn't, all his spots would fall out. Normally, Sillabub would say sorry right after, and of course she's immediately forgiven.  (Silly HC, but she thinks that's why Victoria's white.)

Sillabub, like her sister, started talking later than the typical kitten. Most of her communication was just mewing and coos. Whenever she didn’t want something, she’d show it through her actions. Like whenever her mom or dad offers her another piece of food after she’s already full. She’d often try to feed it to them instead by holding the piece in her mouth and trying to approach her parents’ muzzles. She’d normally end up tapping the food next to their mouths instead of actually feeding them. Demeter always politely declines, while Alonzo tries to encourage her to have one last piece. But Sillabub shakes her head and keeps trying; if she could talk at that stage, she’d insist her parents needed food too; they did eat; she was just too busy munching to see.

This has nothing to do with playing a prank on our dear friend Nathan Patrick Morgan, who I may or may not call Catatafish and may or may not have shown up to his Phantom/Piangi debut wearing a shirt that read MATHAN PATRICK NORGAN, that's my story, I'm sticking to it. (We did some little silly thing where David was Alonzo and I did Yurio from Yuri On Ice and he started dancing. I think I was the one who suggested he do some of the Jellicle Ball as Bustopher. Princess Louise is David's favorite part to dance!)

Reposting an old book review with a cool new book portrait

THOSE DREADFUL ELTDOWN SHARDS by Franklyn Searight and Richard F. Searight

Some of the hallmarks of the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft- the grandfather of modern cosmic horror- are the ancient tomes of forbidden and madness-inducing knowledge that infest his tales like pallid fungi. His most famous fictional text is the “Necronomicon”, but he also mentions other works like the “Pnakotic Fragments” and the “Book of Azathoth”, along with grimoires invented by his fellow Weird pulp writers such as Robert Bloch’s “Book of EIbon”, Robert E. Howard’s “Nameless Cults”. And, of course, the artifacts that this anthology focuses on: the “Eltdown Shards” of author Richard Searight.

Searight himself only wrote two stories featuring the Shards. The majority of tales in this anthology are actually posthumous “collaborations” with his son, Franklyn Searight. Rounding out the book are Lovecraft’s tales which mention the Shards, including the novella “The Shadow Out of Time”, and more obscure works such as “The Diary of Alonzo Typer”.

The Shards, a collection of clay tablets inscribed with bizarre hieroglyphics written in an unknown, prehuman language, are housed in the museum of Beloin College, a small university near Weston, Wisconsin. Though they seem innocuous, the Shards hide great power that has ensorcelled the minds of many beings throughout the eons.

An overwhelming desire for omniscience- full comprehension of all knowledge in the universe- is a major theme in stories surrounding the Eltdown Shards. Protagonists obsess over the tablets, using the incantations contained in the forgotten hieroglyphics to summon beings such as The Warder of Knowledge, the ice demon Avaloth, and the ape-god Ouran-Atun. As you can imagine, these encounters usually do not end well for the mortal summoners.

Mind transference is another theme in many of the Shards stories. There is a strong connection with the Yithians of Lovecraft’s “Shadow Out of Time”, who came to Earth in the distant past by transferring their minds across the universe into the bodies of the strange, cone-like beings of the Triassic.

Mental voyaging also crops up in “The Challenge From Beyond”, a round robin story co-written by Lovecraft, Searight, and their Pulp-era peers A. Merrit, C.L. Moore, Robert E. Howard and Frank Belknap Long. In this tale a man discovers a strange crystalline cube that turns out to be a mind-teleporting device sent by a race of centipede-people from the distant planet of Yekaub who may or may not be related to the original bodies of the Yithians.

Several of the stories written by Franklyn Searight feature his character Alan Hasrad, a journalist and descendant of Lovecraft’s Mad Arab, Abdul Alhazred. Hasrad’s stories tend to be frustratingly anticlimactic. He investigates some strange thing related to the Shards, obtains information he needs and… well, that’s it. The story “Seized by the Warder” does have an odd twist ending, at least, though it doesn’t add much to the rest of the story.

While Those Dreadful Eltdown Shards don’t add much to the Lovecraft mythos beyond giving some background to a text briefly mentioned in “The Shadow Out of Time”, it is interesting to see the Searights’ own world taking form. There is potential here for an intriguing mythology, it just needs wider expansion and deeper delving.
