I really love all the DS2 theories I've seen so far but one thing I'm picking up is a lot of people expecting Higgs to still be on the same trajectory/goal set as he was in the first game and y'know....... I don't think that's the case.
The overall theme of DS2 from what we've seen so far + Kojima's comments seems to be the concept of opposites, inverses, and dualities, as though it's saying, "take the entire idea and turn it inside out and upside down." It appears to challenge the viewer to subvert whatever expectation/understanding they have based on the first game. It's eternal recurrence as seen through a mirror. The first game was themed around blue and black, this one is red and white. Connection becomes disconnection. Hope becomes despair. Age becomes youth. Repetition becomes change.
Buckle up, I've got thoughts.
(This pattern of contrasts illustrates a theory I've had since DS1 based on Nietzsche's "Thus Spake Zarathustra" and the three-stage journey of metamorphoses--camel -> lion -> child--required to become the overman, but that'll be a separate post. If you're already familiar with the book, just know that in this context DS1 would be the camel and thus DS2 encompasses the lion.)
So, in DS1, Higgs is a hyper-fatalist obsessed with extinction. It's easy to assume that hasn't changed, that he's still dedicated to Amelie and wants to end the world... Too easy, right? Has anything Kojima has written ever been that simple?
I raise you this: In the vein of eternal recurrence, Sam becomes Cliff and Higgs becomes Amelie/Bridget... but this is not a literal retelling, rather, a metaphorical one. A dark mirror to the stories we already know.
So if the theme is opposition, what's the opposite of extinction? Creation. What's the first thing we learn about Higgs in the DS2 trailers? He's a musician now. He sings and he plays guitar. And, arguably, music is the very essence and lifeblood of creation itself, one of the very first things mankind created when our species was in its infancy. Further, Higgs uses his own umbilical cord (yes, it's an umbilical cord), as a guitar jack, channeling his ties to life, death, and his own soul in his performance, highlighting that he has an intimate connection to this core act of creativity. More about that in this post.
Now, DS1 already has a lot of themes and motifs surrounding duality, most notably the concept of chirality: two things that are each other's opposite, two hands imperfectly overlapping, two objects that act as one another's mirror. Powerful things happen when they collide--anything ranging from drug interactions to voidouts to the very birth of the universe.
If I'm reading this right, Sam is set to become the chiral counterpart to his father's tragedy and Higgs is set to become the chiral counterpart to the extinction entity. The same narratives we know, recurring once more, but flipped to become something entirely new at the same time. A rope that becomes a stick and a stick that becomes a rope. Humanity will always need both; the stick is not evil for serving its purpose, nor is the rope inherently good for doing its job. "Whatever is done for love always occurs beyond good and evil."
I'm calling it now: Higgs is not serving Amelie, not seeking to bring her back, not trying to become her. He is rebelling against the idea of her, unshackling himself from the role she placed him in, taking back the autonomy he lost and acting to avenge the abandonment and manipulation he suffered. He's claiming her image as his own to make a mockery of what she represents, painting himself up to look like her decaying corpse, all in an effort to prove she no longer controls him, defiantly asserting, "The queen is dead... long live the king." And so, what is there left for him to do but throw himself into reckless acts of creation? Life from death. Extinction Entity? Cute. Try this on for size: Creation Entity.

Omg, I just realized something that’s not gonna add much to the narrative or if anyone has noticed it.
Here we go.
So basically in episode 12, Vash did his girlboss move of flinging himself and Nai over the ledge.
And as they’re falling, I noticed something:
Tumblr media
To me, this reminds of the Yin Yang symbol:
Tumblr media
Then I remember that one post where someone mentioned where Vash in episode 12 wore the colors of ‘evil’ (black and purple).
Knives wore the colors of ‘good’ (white and blue).
They’re polar opposites of one another.
And that got me thinking more in depth with their relation with Yin Yang.
Obviously everyone is familiar with two sides of the same coin. It’s the same idea with Yin Yang, they’re polar opposites but they complement each other.
As part of the Naruto fandom (*groans*, I know I know). But hear me out, lots of symbolism that is related to Naruto and Sasuke is their relation to the sun and moon respectively.
Naruto is the sun. The Yang per say, because he is bright, aggressive and masculine. His respective color is orange.
While Sasuke is the moon. The Yin, because he is with the shadows, silent and feminine. His respective color is purple.
If you read the Naruto manga, then you would see how much Kishimoto bashes your head in with their respective symbolism, it’s in the cover art, the parallelism in the panels. It even showed up as their respective symbols on their hands after the ceremony for the final battle.
Back to TriStamp.
I believe they put Knives as Yang. He is aggressive and very in your face with his conquests of taking back the Plants. He is very muscular, and it’s shown through his tight bodysuit.
Then they would put Vash as Yin. He is way less aggressive with his morals than his previous counterparts. Obviously he still has them, but he is less forthcoming. His entire character design has changed, as everyone says with his non-binary haircut.
But in certain scenes, he still has those broad shoulders and managed to lift a fucking ion cannon enough to break his prosthetic arm. So, my babygirl is still fucking strong, hmph.
It’s even mentioned that the director of TriStamp has said Vash is both the female and male lead.
Same thing with Sasuke, some Studio Perriot staff has stated that he is the heroine of the story.
Obviously Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship heavily implies they’re in love with each other and soulmate coded to the max.
(Ha, get it? Trigun MAXimum??)
(. . ., I’ll see myself out).
But they did a different relationship of Yin Yang:
Twins.
Knives wanted desperately Vash to be the ‘perfect’ version that he envisioned. Taking away Vash’s bodily autonomy.
Vash just wanted to have ‘love and peace’ in the world. He didn’t want to fight Knvies, but he would defend his loved ones.
Until during episode 12, when he was ready to go in guns blazing to take down Knives.
With the color palette of black and purple against Knives’s white and blue.
Purple is the combination of red and blue. Vash’s red jacket and part of Knives’s color palette.
But also in the end, when Vash wanted to shoot that cube up in the sky.
He still wanted to save his brother, even though Knives was rejecting it by reaching to the absolute power of the cube and what it would bring him and Plant kind.
An Icarus-esque trope per say.
But yeah, anyways, this was just a jumble of thoughts I had to immediately write this down.

Happy Wet Beast Wednesday and thank you @aroace-genderfluid-sheep, @cutestkilla and @wellbelesbian for the tags.
Speaking of beasts, I am still thinking about my Klaine Back-To-School fic. It's getting... somewhere. The fact that people liked A Sandy Situation, my Madison and More fic, helps, though. Because I was also struggling with the big romantic ending for that one and I felt kinda bad about it, but hey, people like it so maybe I am better than I give myself credit for.
I am also still trying out how to podfic. I claimed another fic for the Caught on Tape Fest that's around 500 words and I recorded it in one go. Then I listened back to it and re-recorded specific parts that I wanted to redo.
This was before I saw the tip in the Podfic thread on Discord about how you can just say a line several times in a recording and then cut out the bloopers in the editing process. That sounds easier, cause I have zero (0) experience editing audio. This is gonna be fun. This thread is a godsend. I now know how to pronounce Swithin!
(Also, while looking for a way to upload these files to my computer, I came across my audio for the Dalton Audiobook. I clicked on one, just for fun, and it started with me saying "Take 4 of Marcus simping over Michelle Wright" and... yeah.) (Me too, Marcus, if I weren't aroace.) (I didn't edit for that project, so that's why I still have no experience.)
Anyway, have different variants of me saying the word "Cute", because I am not sure which one I like the most:
This is about a sphynx cat, by the way, who are indeed cute! Some might disagree but I don't!!
I do really like recording, although I have to, like, teach myself to not cringe at myself when I listen back to it, but I am sure more people feel this. This one is kind of interesting, cause it features two characters that aren't as popular, so I never really had a voice for them in my head. I do have some attempt at a voice for Simon, Baz, Penny, Agga, Shep, Niamh, Niall and Dev, but hey! Anyway, that's where I am at. I need to stop myself from claiming another 500 words fic, though.
And now, the weather: @quizasvivamos @blurglesmurfklaine @coffeegleek @esperantoauthor @otherworldsivelivedin @caramelcoffeeaddict @sillyunicorn @bazzybelle @dragoneggos @raenestee @tectonicduck @nightimedreamersworld @urban-sith @thnxforknowingme @captain-aralias @you-remind-me-of-the-babe @justgleekout @cerriddwenluna @tea-brigade @ivelovedhimthroughworse @moodandmist @whogaveyoupermission @bookish-bogwitch @confused-bi-queer @ionlydrinkhotwater @1908jmd @special-bc-ur-part-of-it @larkral @chen-chen-chen-again-chen @artsyunderstudy @martsonmars @facewithoutheart @shrekgogurt @boyinjeans @rockitmans @bitbybitwrites @blackberrysummerblog @whatevertheweather

I wonder what the sun felt like hours before Icarus's death. Full of light and life, unaware that it would witness a suicide today. Watching with bated breath as he grew closer and closer. Part of it happy for the brave company, another scared for his safety, another begging him to come closer, to see what he thought was beautiful turn deadly.
We all say "don't fly too close to the sun" in refrence to Icarus's burning, but have we ever thought to ask why he was so hell bent to touch the brightest star? People say it was because he was reckless, because he was drunk, because he wanted to test the limits of his intelligence.
I think it was because be loved. Call it whatever you want, but he loved Apollo. He didn't even think to look up until he learned about the God. He wanted to be closer, to feel that bond pull him higher and higher, but it snapped under the heated touch of the sun and Icarus fell too hard.
Was the string of fate reeling him up just so his story would be a tragedy and a warning to others to remember their place?
Men among men.
Gods among Gods.
Stars among stars.
But if that's true, then why doesn't the sun take any blame. After all, it's what caused Icarus to burn, to fall. It made him feel warm and welcome, a Sirens call to Icarus's ears.
Did Apollo know? Was he hoping that Icarus would make it to him? A large feat for a mortal man.
Did he hope, or did he know?
I'd hope that Apollo wouldn't be so cruel to give false hope, to act as a finish line to a race never won.
How could you even take sides? Finding yourself in the same position as either, don't you think you'd want...
you'd want.
Plain and simple.
You'd want to conquer the feat of meeting a God in the heavens.
You'd want a man so beneath you to want you.
You.
Apollo.
How could you not risk a little burn? How could you not get so close, so close your finger tips touch? At that point all that's left is to realish the burn.
The fire that burns beneath your skin, inside your veins, has finally started to wither away at your skin. By now, you're used to it. The fire doesn't hurt, but the look on the face of the God you love as you fall, that hurts more than any burn could ever hope to.
To be Icarus, the sun, or Apollo, would be a tragedy in this story. No matter how you spin it. Wanting was the worst way to go in all three point of views.

So I didn't get to see S2 until today and I'd previously seen half a spoiler that Aziraphael died?! And then I hit block on all spoilers and went about my day. But then I sat down today to binge the entire season clutching my pearls the entire time, thinking of how Aziraphael would meet his end. And then the season (and what a lovely season it was) was all about how much Crowley loves his angel and I was fully expecting the ending to rip my heart out if Aziraphael died. But the ending?? The actual ending?? How about you feed me poison, it'd be less painful? Wow, give us everything and then give us NOTHING? IT TOOK ME 30 MINUTES TO GET THROUGH A 5 MINUTE SCENE BECAUSE I KEPT STOPPING IT. MY HANDS WERE SHAKING! I TEARED UP! AZIRAPHAEL, BABY, NO, WHAT ARE YOU DOING??
That is to say, the season was amazing, I'm planning a full rewatch of both seasons and a reread, and I plan to consume an unholy amount of fanfic for this. Neil Gaiman is a king, I won't accept criticism.
