Reviewing all the stories in junji ito maniac because I can, fuck you :)

The strange hikizuri siblings - uhh okay. Not scary nothing even happened. Okay a guy was a jealous simp, little kids are just like that, some guy threw up bread dough ig, then a ghost stared at everyone for a while and dipped the end

The story of the mysterious tunnel - Jesus Christ that was pretty spooky what the hell. Lost my marbles when he assumed the drop was water, and the kid in the ceiling fucked me up with her voice (dub) and screams

Ice cream bus - im never eating ice cream again. Jokingly compared the driver to William afton fnaf in the beginning but he was somehow worse. The dad pushing the kid away jumpscared me, then horrified me, and I needed a break from the show

Hanging balloon - so absurd it was kinda funny. The nonlinear storytelling added a bit if spook as I slowly realized who was at the window but idk the concept was just funny to me. Also I was so happy someone finally showed up to a horror plot strapped until I saw the result. Sorry random Chad with a crossbow, wish you coulda helped…

Four x four walls - thought something horrific would happen outside and he wouldn’t hear it but it didn’t, thought soichi was famous for being scary but he wasnt, I think this was like a comic relief in episode form. No spook, kinda funny

The sandman’s lair - *laughs nervously* what the fuck. No clue what happened, why would you tape yourselves like that, let me see his dream form damnit, the nature of humanity is we reinvent homestuck etc

Intruder - these kids are based tbh. Balls of steel, don’t blame the redhead, just move on with their lives

Long hair in the attic - also based, i had wondered where her head had gone but i shoulda known by the title, that grinding sound pissed me off tho

Mold - thank. God. It was in black and white. I choose to believe its dust. Also idc about culture or taboo if your floor is coated in inches of ropes and pools of mold just wear your damn shoes. Jesus Christ

Library vision - this one felt like it was calling out all of my anxieties about losing the things and memories precious to me. Also 10/10 Sean chiplock that final recital of hell of thorns was incredible and spooky. Also what the fuck was the ending

Tomb town - im never driving again. Also just call the cops surely you get a reduced sentence for actually reporting the crime. Other than that not scary lol

Layers of terror - im never picking my skin again. god ALMIGHTY why did i bear witness to this. Fuck that mom bro she sucks. I was thinking about how the proportions of human anatomy change as you age and how a toddler with such short limbs and a thick torso could fit inside an adult but uh… then they answered my question. And then it got worse. Funnily enough the 2yo looked like a monster id design

The thing that drifted ashore - was this supposed to be scary…? Oh boy they turned into fish people and promptly fucked off good for them ig

Tomie • photo - wow what bitches lmfao. Idk why she has a face growing out of her scalp hut I didn’t need to see the removal process. Or how botched the removal process was. Based that the photographer just fuckin moved on. “Damnit the blood ruined my pictures :/“ incredible.

Unendurable labyrinth - probably woulda been scarier if they were lost for longer but to me it looked like they took five steps, found the brother, seven steps, “aaaah we’re lost,” two steps, “theyre looking at me!” then suddenly the mummies have eyes, fade to black. Cool

The bully - I was sooo ready for retribution, then I got reconciliation and got even happier, then it turned into child abuse and I wanted to kill a bitch

Alley - pfft idk if its based that she killed those kids or not but it was extra based that they got revenge on her lmao shoulda brought a ladder bro

Headless statue - Jesus fuck that’s gross. Stop it. Also smash the statues again it worked brilliantly earlier. Or maybe jump out a window idk

Whispering woman - mega based. The nervous girl gains support and confidence, the attendant is freed from her abusive friend, the abusive friend gets violently killed, its just wins all around

Soichi’s beloved pet - once again a comic relief episode but tbh it was pretty funny, soichi was a lot less hateable this time too!

lmfaoo i was walking my kids to their art class and theyre lined up outside the door, the door is open and the teacher is talkign to two other teachers and they dont acknowledge the kids at all or me and were standing there for a few minutes and idk if im supposed to wait for them to be done and then i check the time its the exact time they shld b in art so idk im like ok ill have the kids find their seats ig? and i tell them to bc none of the teachers acknowledge me at all or tell me to wait or not and then as i tell fhe kids to quietly find their seats and one of the teachers who isnt eben the art teacher is like uh uh wait and holds her hand up at me and her tone was kind of ummmmm idk how to describe. like most teachers ive been around are decent but some of them talk to me weird or are borderline rude idk 🙄sub life + im young i guess but its kind of weird like she could have said that nicer imo im not a student you dont need to talk to me in a rude manner and u 3 adults could have acknowledged me instead of just continuing chatting and not giving me any verbal instruction bc it was their time to be in art and i was just trying to stay on schedule. lol

misc thoughts about my winx club au

so i wanna ramble about some loose ideas for this cause ive been ruminating on it for a long while.

first is that roxy isnt a believix fairy in this. she gets her base form (which im working on) and shes going to alfea and will be the new 'main character' of this au. debating on if i wanna kinda racebend her into being mixed (like ngl i thought she was supposed to be half asian when i was younger but that wasnt true lol, this is an au tho so ill do whatever i want).

the OG 6 winx will be moving on with their adult lives (and in this idea theyll get like movies in this idea to tell more stories about them, but its not in the main continuity ig).

roxy is the fairy of animals, but really shes really only good with domesticated land animals at this point and struggles with wild land animals (like dogs are domesticated even if theyre feral while like, wolves are wild even if theyre tame). isnt that good with birds and def not great with sea creatures. yknow im really trying to think how roxy can grown in understanding of her powers and i think this is an easy way to do that. shed also probably struggles with certain animals in the magical dimension for various reasons.

roxy is in a room with 5 other girls but she really only becomes close friends with 2 of them, brianna from callisto and zari from dolona. the other 3 are just around not really involved, they arent mean or rude to the other 3.

brianna would be the fairy of art, though i havent quite figured out how that works out. and zari would be the fairy of paper (okay listen LISTEN if youve seen the papermasters from read or die, or kubo and the 2 strings its like that i just dont know what to call it).

this is gonna be a 26 ep season, so the first 9 eps would be focusing on roxy, brianna, and zari learning things (things we didnt see with the OG 6) and becoming close friends and taking the name Winx Club for themselves.

then theyd meet 2 witches. agatha from solaria and lana from andros. agatha is the witch of sweets and lana is the witch of the deep. i want to have some witches in the new group because im tired of witches only being viewed as evil, lol.

the remaining 17 eps will be about the group getting to know each other, their powers, and becoming close friends. theres no big bad for this...1st season. its very episodic and focused on character development and more worldbuilding.

then season 2 of this little au would essentially be season 5 which, from memory, had been about andros and environmentalism, 26 episodes again.

its be focused on roxy and lana mostly in the development department i think, i think theyre powers and the fact that lana is from andros. aisha and flora will show up a bit later in the season.

im not writing stuff, just throwing out ideas. this post is really long so ill make another post about the magic and stuff and transformations later on.

trigun ep 6 thoughts

in the effort to show nick's fancy human strengthening drug, they have him using it every time he shows up? hes like me playing video games tanking damage bc ik i have 100 health potions on me and idc enough to deal w the enemy atm or whatever. these arent the actions of a man who wants to live lol??

theres mention of knives' plant plot again. the last two eps feel like filler for stampede i guess

idk if meryl is joking but her comment was weird either way?? why would any of them be ok w ww in the car atm

at least theyre talking abt meryl and roberto being reporters again. i honestly almost forgot that completely. not that they showed them working

idk if it was the translation, but smth abt wolfwood's convo calling him cold was hard to understand for me? but idk why he didnt have this attitude w them earlier. and i esp dont know why hes tolerating ww atm if the gung ho gun/ww babysit/guide vash to knives plot isnt happening here

ig this is the closest to a death flag for roberto. still dont know why meryl is so fixated on vash. kind of feel like if roberto didnt exist, i wouldnt believe this reporter group exists, either

wolfwood is not likable at all in stampede. in the manga, his role fits, here he feels like a stalker, esp when he doesnt even have that anime tsundere vibe, instead following him and calling him stupid. his kind of domineering, asshole attitude compared to vash's passive attitude in return makes vash feel kind of depressing. i wouldnt want them together

ww's attitude also focuses on vash's "failure", something that shouldve been reserved to vash. ww can be projecting concerning the cult (and presumably the orphans being kidnapped) but it shouldnt be both

stampede again hasnt even brought up why vash doesnt want to kill, when ww couldve been a perfect opportunity for him to question it, but stampede seems to be skipping past things

i dont like livio's design :(

idk how ww would recognize him lol

the style change is interesting

also im distracted but its WAYY too early to reveal anyones backstory lol, unless they get removed like right away lol??

nick also looks too young. it feels like he doesnt have that initial issue that causes him to be weirdly mature (despite all the other shit)

stampede seems to wanna characterize ww as a trickster? obviously for what hes doing rn, but it feels weird as a child... livio and nick's interaction in the manga felt better

this is absolutely personal but i dont like whatever artist's style for these characters lol. before i thought it was just meryl, but they clearly have a same face issue

ww's skin tone almost looks normal, but idk if its supposed to immediately contrast him to livio who they put in all white like fucking kaworu nagisa or shion from no.6

the blue hair joke felt very mcu humory. i hate tristamp's designer. i am so serious

i wonder what theyre gonna do abt razlo...

they turned conrad into a priest? specifically for the cult??

livio being here this early is also bad i think bc in the manga it basically felt like he replaced ww after. ww at this point went out of his way not to kill, being mocked by his master, and livio being praised as a tool along side him. i dont think he wanted to kill livio then, but livio was accepting of his role then. they also fought at the orphanage. idk why livio is here, why hes attacking or what. it just feels very wrong overall

they sure did change legato lol. hes now the analytical, stoic anime cliche, while the original very clearly had no issue getting emotional lol

HEHEHEH I don't wanna say TOOOO much bc I have plans BUT!

I can ramble about the characters and worldbuilding!!!

The story takes place in a place I have yet to name that im calling Times Square (haha) where about five or so gods run the universe. they dont do much, initially, until a big accident sets the universe off-course butterfly effect style and they need to fix it.

Hence, the weird animal things.

Each god made something they could use to try and help fix this. But a special group of them is given the dirty work: Killing anyone who needs to be killed for the universe to right itself.

This is usually reserved for people who've been raised to do it, as it takes a lot of training and care to do correctly. you cannot be seen, the cause of death needs to be probable with the time zone, and you need to make sure you ONLY hit the correct target. anything else will just leave a bigger mess to clean up.

But our little Time Owl who has no name (so hell just be called Owl for now) met a curious little creature. The cowboy guy. who also has no name. (he'll be Cowboy ig) He was injured, alone, and incredibly far from where he comes from. On top of that, he was just in general very different from the rest of his kind. his wings were small and almost completely useless, and they made a loud rattling when vibrated. (also, altho this is normal for his kind, his tail has three ends that knock together loudly, kind of like if you hit wooden spoons together)

His kind (technically dragons ig?) usually engage in environmental things. specifically with wildlife and people in the woods. also they're often tasked with protecting important people for the timeline. but without being able to fly, that'd be difficult. not only that, Cowboy was relatively clumsy and aggressive. he was short-tempered and also just seemed more inclined to kill than he was to protect. Owl decided to raise him and teach him multiple different things, but he deviated towards the killing people bit.

Usually, killing is for sirens. there are other creatures raised to do it, but sirens are the most common. the tales of them are already all over society, and not many people who run into them survive, not to mention how easy it is to cover up a murder from a siren.

all this considered, Cowboy was in a pretty weird place. he was skilled, no doubt about it, but he fell into the role of just. anything. which would typically put him to work in the Times Square, like a normal citizen, but he doesnt like that idea, and repeatedly argued with Owl about it.

eventually, he ends up hopping job to job, until Owl tries to let him work in his own library.

Cowboy promptly destroys it (accidentally) and Owl kicks him out for the day (note that hes like. in his mid-late 20's rn. he only still lives with Owl bc he a) cant hold a job and b) is still his apprentice technically)

He wants to make it up to his mentor, so when he overhears some people talking about a mission theyre not sure they can handle, he makes a very smart adult decision and steals their stopwatch.

stopwatches are their way of traveling time to time and compasses are for place to place. Cowboy already has his own compass (u cant use it to get to earth unless you have a watch, since earth is in any time at all times up to a very specific point) so he just. goes to do their mission for them.

while looking for his target, however, he notices they took a wrong turn (he has very specific directions, and he knows where they're supposed to be at the given time) and follows them, only to see our wonderful (also unnamed) siren kill him.

When she sees him, she immediately scolds him, telling him how reckless he was and then telling him his mentor was looking for him.

turns out the siren (who im calling Siren surprise surprise) is a backup. which means shes not often called to missions, but she gets paid the same to pick up the failed or unfinished ones. shes unhappy with that arrangment and KNOWS she could do better if theyd just give her a shot at being a real assassin instead of the 2nd 3rd 4th 5th option. shes regarded as less attractive than the other sirens, and her mother refuses to listen to her and let her do more than what she has. shes frustrated and insulted by this, but also just not very respected. she spends more time outside of the siren are of times square than she does IN it, because the people there aren't incredibly pleasant.

Cowboy, who wants nothing more than to avoid trouble with his dad i mean mentor, proposes an idea:

if the two of them can convince Owl to give them a shot, they can work together on these missions, which are typically solo. and she agrees.

theres other important characters, like Cowboy's husband and a third person in their little murder gang, as well as the other gods, some antagonists, and a very confused cryptid investigator, but this is the general gist! though id love to talk about anything more specific if anyone has anything theyd like to hear more about :D

i dont think there was anything i didnt like tbh. sarah was really gooddddd, the actor nailed that shit on the head. i like how they established more that tommy depends on joel, with the jail thing, and how they shared the job at the start, i think that was really good. there was more set up about the neighbours too, i just think all that was really cool.

none of the direct quotes from the game felt like pandering or fanservice, which i liked, all of them were really welcome for me. (Didnt think i would sob at hearing a teenage girl say "i sell hardcore drugs" as a joke but here we are.)

I liked that it was all from sarah's POV in the beginning. in the game one of the most poignant scenes is trying to escape in the car, how the adults are in the front seat making the calls and everything is happening around you and all you can do is turn the camera and watch. it was nice that you could like, see her interact with the world even if for a short bit. it didnt feel drawn out or unnecessary, it was sufficiently Paced.

the worldbuilding was really nice, like im sure it couldve been done more extensively in the game as well, seeing the QZ and how it works and all that, not just through cutscenes but i do get why they wouldnt do it, they did, however, have time for it on the show, which i really liked. the whole circle of trades joel got through to get info on tommy. i love that tommy is more present from the beginning. like in the game we were looking for him when we find him but it comes up as an idea later in the game like "okay what now, ig lets go find tommy" but here he's already established to be. Out There. and something happened between him and joel that we dont know anything about yet.

i am wary of tess a liiiittle bit because annie wersching is just so fucking good. like when they said she walked into the audition As Tess, you just know they mean it. and i only ever saw anna torv as olivia in fringe and shes good in that but a part of her character is that she's a little grey and a little unnoticable and all that so. i was a little afraid. and sure she gives off a different vibe but she has that same gentleness juuust below the surface that game tess did, and i love that joel really is just the muscle, but tess is the brain and the authority in the pair.

so that was good.

marlene is 100%, i really loved her. i dont know why i thought seeing her wear the same simple clothes as game marlene did was such a huge deal that i had to hyperventilate, but you know. like dude, its a tank top, calm down.

anyway. i was fine with all of the changes, i dont think anything they changed took away anything from the characters. maybe i expected them to react to the fungi'd body a little differently. like the spores were already established and seeing a bitch like that should mean its about to start sporing but. maybe its just a detail that theyre. not. supposed to wear a gas mask at that point.

ig thats the one thing that made me go hOL'UP. but nothing else i can recall

the fireflies were alright, like we see the explosion from the game just somewhere else in the game so we see about as much of them in the show as in the game.

obviously, i think ellie's actor has the most to prove which, goddamn, thats gotta be Some pressure eh. but i think she did well. the few lines she had were well written, they got her character through well. but i also loved how once they were outside and in danger following tess and joel, she really was just a scared kid who's really just trying to Appear Big and scary by cursing and yelling and lashing out at new people and being a little brat.

i dont think i have any like, observations about her as of now. i liked her on screen, obviously shes never gonna be the same as ashley johnson ellie but i also dont want her to be? actually there were two lines where i felt like she was imitating game ellie (or it really just came across like that for my ears) and that actually bothered me more than when she was "different". which. she is, obviously x)

so yeah i really like her, to me it all hinges on her chemistry with joel. i think the actor will do a fine job if the dynamic is written well.

joel for now is kind of a blank slate i guess, classic hardened badass that he was in the game as well. so im excited for him to become a real character next to the cast of characters they'll meet along the way and as their relationship with ellie transforms.

for now, the show is really promising, it really got me hyped, i cried, i laughed, i literally screamed out loud when they mentioned riley x') so it had me in my tlou feels, definitely.

but im also wary because of the video game adaptation curse thats been going for centuries x) also for some reason adaptations often love to go tits up right before the ending? like they want to do something else something different and have their own moment. i expect and accept a lot more changes thats not the issue but just dont... steal the heart of the story, okay?

also i had no idea they kept gustavo for the music so i may have wept when i heard the theme song. i have sooOOO MANY fond memories of playing the game for the first time. it was such a special, special experience with giules in rome, playing a video game for the first time in my life, having so many great experiences just being with her family and all. listening to the OST on the beach together :")

Drista’s would be like a green crown, Tommys would be a red and white disk (white as the outer ring and red as the center) (its different enough that if you don’t realise tommy is a god you wouldnt realise whos it is) (schlatt is the only one who never had one which shoulda been a sign dude :/)

Dream has two from the beginning, everyone else has only one, well until they meet drista. (sbi have had one since they met tommy, though they dont remember the first time they met tommy)

wait what if tommy like found them all as children one by one and later kinda pulled some strings to get them all in one kingdom. (he still joined sbi through forcing phil to adopt him)
