Summoning the Summoner
Another summoning/long lost family au but with twist!
So Damian and his class are at Gotham museum for a small field trip for a school project. Thing is none of them knew until it was too late that the new museum curator was part of a cult that had plans to kidnap and sacrifice this class of kids for some ancient god/deity/spirit.
Damian barely manages to send a message to one of his brothers and to the cave before being knocked out when he sees his classmates dropping from knocknout gas.
When he wakes up the preparations for the sacrifice are almost ready. Damian being the most prominent person in the class is going to be the one chosen first. He is then taken to the alter and it begins after the whole villain speech. Damian does manage to get out of his bindings and tries to fight back, does lead them on a merry little chase to get more time for his family to come, nothing to Robiny though, but is forcibly restrained again.
Just as they bring Damian back to the alter none of them notice, or rather, care that Damian was bleeding from getting hit when they recaptured him. None of them notice when the blood dropped from his chin onto the summoning circle because the Batclan (any) just dropped into the room.
They did notice however when the summoning circle started glowing beneath them however.
And none of the cultists had time to finish the summoning chant.
Meaning the summoning circle was not under their control.
And before any of them could do anything, they are all ripped away from the Mortal Realm and everyone, Damian, his class, the cultists, and the Batfam in the room are pulled into the Infinite Realms.
They are no longer in the warehouse they were about to be sacrificed in but in a throne room. Surrounded by glowing floating people and some don't even look human.
And sitting on the throne was a teenager with a shoulder wrapped cape made of stars and galaxies, a crown of ice, stars, and aurora borealis lights shifting in between them, about Damian's age, with white hair and glowing green eyes who looked rather shocked.
The reason? Both him and Damian shared the same face.
-x-x-
Danny was annoyed as heck.
Ever since his crowning it was like every magic user from legendary to mediocre got a notice that a new Infinite Realms King had been crowned and that gave them the go ahead and try to freaking Summon him!
Luckily refusing a summons was well within Danny's Ghost King rights, he's King now he does what he wants (Sam's wise words), and the only summonings Danny answered were his friends and family (Dani is such a troll with it though, butttttt it does get him out of those annoying meetings sometimes and they get to hang out wherever she decided to stop at), sometimes he'd answer the odd teenage morons just to scare them (it's always fun)
Although there were a few summonings outside of that, that he had answered. Thankfully he could sense what kind of summoner was summoning him and intent was always a huge thing. And those that didn't feel like insane fruitloops well... Danny's curiosity often took over.
So imagine his annoyance when he felt another summon happening in the middle of a meeting with his council. But also imagine his surprise when the normally tight demands on the summoning wasn't there...
That meant...
Oh Danny was going to have a lot of fun with this.
This meant they summoning but don't have control on which way the summoning was going to go. Meaning, Danny could reverse summon them to him instead.
With a wide grin he instantly waved his hand and the meeting room shifted to his throne room, might as well pull out all the stops and play the "Big Bag Ghost King"
He could see his council (and good friends and allies) raise their eyebrows at him or tilt their heads but could also sense the attempted summonings power of him and knew he had something planned.
With a short laugh, Danny raised his hand, grasped on the invisible summoning line, and pulled.
Now he was expecting a good amount of people, the summoning felt large so that normally meant cultists but he was expecting so many! Heck some looked to be teenagers his age, and a few oddly dressed people besides the cultists! Oh boy did that mean sacrifices?! Well he'll be happy to put those cultists in their place if that was the case.
But first, find the summoner. Separate them from the group and -
Oh... why... why does he have Danny's face?!
Danny took a quick look at the normally invisible to everyone but him Summoning line and almost choked when he saw it was a sibling line, a blood sibling line.

To prove to Jason that Bruce replaced him, Talia hacks a CCTV livefeed of Batman with his new Robin. But she mildly fucked up.
Because it's also got audio, and it's very clearly catching Bruce telling the new Robin that he doesn't need a Robin, and that the kid needs to go the fuck home.
It catches the new Robin do something completely unhinged in response to that, along the lines of solving a case right then and there to prove a point, and then jumping through a window into a gunfight before Bruce has even processed what he said.
"I mean," Jason starts tentatively, looking very Concerned, "At least that's one way to make sure the kid doesn't get himself killed, if he's got a minder."
The plan backfires, spectacularly.
Now Jason is concerned about this new Robin, and keeps filling Damian's head with ideas.
Ideas like Damian needs to force Drake to go to bed, Damian should help Jason make sure Drake eats more, Damian should help Batman hide trackers on Drake, Damian should get an adult if it looks like Drake is about to do something stupid.
Basically, instead of clearing the path for Damian to take the mantle of Robin, Damian is instead being taught to care for Drake like one would a domesticated wild animal.

Dick as Damian's third parent while also having bad parent Talia: stale, boring, relies on poor characterization of Talia. Yawn.
Dick as Damian's third parent with good mom Talia except Dick and Talia still hate each other: beautiful, talented, show stopping, never been done before, etc. They take Damian out for a day and constantly try to out do eachother in who can be the most fun. Dick takes him to the circus except the high wire act is actually the two of them doing an old Flying Grayson's routine. Talia takes him to the arcade and buys the cabinet for his favourite game right there on the spot (also she's surprisingly good at DDR. Dick gets demolished in a match with her). Damian's torn bc on the one hand he knows they're both losing themselves in the competition instead of just being in the moment with him but on the other hand. Richard and Mother are taking him to his favourite Lebanese restaurant where they plan to buy him an all you can eat buffet bc Talia thought he looked thin and Dick agreed bc he knows Bruce can't cook good meals for shit. So who is he to deny them their whims?

Not The Blood Son
Damian is not Bruce Wayne's biological son. A fact that no one was aware of, not even Talia herself.
This was because Ra found the DNA of a being related to the Lazarus pits, and was willing to make a clone for further study; However, he lost the sample. On the other hand, Talia, who was trying to created a kid of her and her beloved used the wrong sample.
Talia never realized this due to Damian's resemblance to Bruce. When Damian got to the mansion, Bruce take Talia's word for it, of course, she ran some blood tests but the computer started crashing at that point, showing the result to be 'similar'. He decided to do new tests later, but that result was enough at the time.
Everything Damian was proud of: his heritage, his own as the only blood son, his right to be "Batman", was gone as soon as his mother revealed the truth. His father, of course, said that he was still his son regardless of blood but Damian was not happy with that.
He was supposed to be different from his brothers, he was supposed to be Batman, but if he wasn't... who was he? What was his true purpose? what was the right path to choose?
Determined to find a new purpose, Damian decided to search for his biological father. Something in which his family offered him support. The problem was that the only information they had came from Ra and one of his former business associates. A certain "Plasmius", Damian's father had no other description beyond "Related to the Lazarus pits"
Danny Fenton, finally out of the hero life, and living with his "cousin" in Amity (and the Infinite Realms) had no idea how much was about to change his quiet retirement life.

Had an idea, thought I'd make it a prompt, 3k+ words later realized this wasn't a prompt anymore but a ficlet 🙃
Anyway, here's the first almost 2k of Talia being a good parent and deciding to not go with either Bruce or Ra's and go off and do her own thing and raise Damian and oops she got attached to Jason while checking in on Bruce and saved him from dying in Ethiopia. & now has 2 sons lol
-
When her Beloved and her father demanded Talia make a choice, of who she would choose, she didn't hesitate.
She chose neither of them. She chose her child. She chose herself.
Outwitting both Ra's al Ghul and Batman was no simple feat. They were both brilliant, relentless and with endless resources at their command. It was why their clashes were as devastating as they were. Immovable objects and unstoppable forces the both of them. If there was something they wanted, it was something they would have.
But not her.
They would not have her.
She had her own networks, her own people, her own keen intelligence and sharp cunning. It took time - time she really didn't have - and a great deal of pain and loss, but she slipped them eventually. Shrugged off the shroud of who she had been - who she was made to be - and stepped confidently into her new life.
Her son was born nine days after her freedom had finally, fully been assured.
He was small and perfect in every way. Soft and warm cradled close to her chest, unblemished by the cruelty of the world as he slept soundly in her arms. Even as exhausted as she was after such a long labor, she couldn't bring herself to sleep. Her attention narrowed down entirely on his every quiet breath, his downy soft hair, his round peaceful face.
In the weeks that followed his eyes would shift and change from a newborn's blue to her own green. It would take years before she could know if he inherited any of his father's features, but that was fine. He was hers and hers alone.
She named him Damian.
In another life she would name him with her father in mind. That her son would rise as Heir to the Demon and conquer the world. That he'd stand as ruler of all.
In this one, she named him with hope in her heart that what he would master was his own life. That he would never be forced to bow to the will of anyone else. To be made to act as servant or puppet. Let him tame his fate into something good and kind and happy.
She did her best to give him the life he deserved.
Lavished him with all her love and affection. Gave him everything he could ever want or need. The friends she began making for herself - not just trusted allies, but friends - laughed that she would spoil him rotten. It was probably true, but she didn't have it in her to care.
Her son would have the childhood he would have been denied if raised raised in the home of either of their fathers. Her father would have demand harsh lessons and frightened obedience and impossible standards. Damian's would have tried - she knew her Beloved would have tried - but his heart would always be for his city first and all else, even his children, second.
Talia kept tabs on both of them, covertly. Ensured she always kept a healthy distance from anything that involved her father or his people. Gathered stories of her Beloved's exploits to share with her son when he was old enough to hear them.
It gave her insight on just what choosing her Beloved would have meant. Reassured her that while not choosing her father had been the right choice, choosing her Beloved would have been the wrong one.
Bruce Wayne was a good man. Brilliant and driven with his kind heart and admirable goals. Breathtaking in his skill and ability.
Disappointing in his parenting skills.
Talia knew she was lacking as a parent herself. That her own upbringing had left its scars and that try as she might she'd undoubtedly end up doing the same to her own child over the years. But she always pushed herself hard towards improving, in making herself better for the tiny boy that she loved more than anything else. And she felt satisfied that in the very least that when presented with options on how her and her son's life would be, she'd made the one that was best for Damian.
Not the life of an assassin or a vigilante, but the life of a child.
A child who was taught some of the skills of both the worlds she'd turned her back on, admittedly, but only ever for his own protection. Damian was safer knowing how to hide, how to escape, how to fight. She had done her best, but there was always the looming threat that they might be found one day. She needed to be sure he was ready, if that time ever come.
She didn't teach him the way she was taught.
When her son fumbled or failed she gently corrected him. Walked him through what he'd done wrong, how he could improve. Made a game out of the experience so that he came running up to her on toddling feet with bright eyes begging that they have a lesson. His excitement and delight in it all made him a better student then her fear and desperate need for her father's approval and affection.
There was a day she caught sight of him, all of four years old, tiny face scrunched in a look of concentration as he practiced the form she'd taught him the day before with his small, wooden practice sword. Some of his father's features lingered at the edges of his face, but he'd deepened his resemblance to her by picking up her mannerisms and expressions. Her son, going through the same steps and motions she had when she'd been his age, little body wobbling as he turned to fast before plopping on the ground with a tiny oof.
Talia had small silver scars on the back of her hands, so thin and so old as to nearly be invisible anymore. They burned all the same as she recalled herself stumbling in nearly the same way. Stomach churning as she remembered the terror she'd felt as her instructor had snatched her up by her hair and drug her over to a low table, holding her hands in place with a massive hand. The way she'd bit her lip hard enough that her mouth filled with blood as he struck her with the thin lash, knowing that if she cried the punishment would be all the worse.
Damian only blinked his big green eyes and scowled the same way she did whenever something of minor importance didn't go the way she wanted it to. Then he saw her standing there in the doorway watching him and his face lit up, bright as the son and just as beautiful as he jumped to his feet and darted over to her. Tiny hand clinging to the loose fabric of her pant leg as he begged her show me again Mama!
It was moments like that where she knew beyond any shadow of a doubt she'd made the right choice.
Her father would have broken her brilliant, kind hearted son. Would have done to him what was done to her to forge Damian into a weapon.
Her beloved...
He would never hurt her son like that. Not the way her father and his loyal followers would. But she couldn't ignore the fact that Damian would still be hurt all the same under his father's tutelage.
Talia knew the man she loved well. Adored his strengths, but was not blind to his flaws. He kept his heart well guarded, hidden behind imposing walls of silence and razor wire of words he didn't truly mean. Still kind, but horribly distant when it came to those he cared for most. It shielded him some, perhaps, but it left those who loved him feeling lost and alone.
She saw how Dick Grayson had grown over the years. Tall and clever and lonely and bitter. Fighting for independence, for acknowledgement, for his father to speak words of love and respect. Things Bruce felt but almost never said unless he thought things were dire.
She saw too how the heavy weight of her Beloved's priorities weighed up on his second son.
Young Jason Todd who saw magic in the harsh world he'd been drawn into and desired to be the protection for others that he never had growing up. She saw much of herself in him, though he faced the world with far more hope than she had at his age. He was a bright boy with a good heart that had weathered a harsh upbringing that Talia could sympathize with. There was a familiar anger in him too, broiling just beneath the surface, flaring up and burning him as much as everyone else when triggered.
Most of all though Talia could see the desperate loneliness that had marred her own life in the boy. The soul deep fear of abandonment. The painful desire for love from a father that always seemed to stay at arm's length who spoke rarely of affection and often of missions to be completed.
She kept a close eye on her Beloved's second Robin.
When he left for Ethiopia, searching for family in a stranger that had already given him up, she'd followed.
Jason only ever wanted family and love. A good boy, bright and fierce and brave. A boy Talia saw a lot of herself in, who faced the world with such determined brightness in spite of the pain and hardship he'd known.
Shelia Haywood took that boy that Talia had grown so fond of, took his trust and his love and crushed it beneath her heel. Callously handed him over to the Joker without a second thought. As if he was disposable, as if he was nothing more than a puppet to use and toss away when it suited her.
Talia had risked everything when she'd decided she would not choose either her father or her Beloved. She'd turned her back on her entire life, everything that had ever been and ever could be on either side. She spent months running, hiding, fighting and killing, in orchestrating a plan that could outwit and outmaneuver the two most brilliant men she knew. And she'd done it all so that her son could live free, as master of his own life.
Jason Todd had come to Ethiopia looking for a mother.
Talia, with blood on her hands and a burning warehouse behind her as she carried his broken body to safety, made sure he found one.

Finally posting the Talia focused animatic I have been working on, because I don't know when I'll get time to finish it and I like it too much to let it rot in my folder.
This is based on the events of Batman: Son of the Demon and the song is Wife by Mitski
I have a whole lot of thoughts on how this song reflects Talia's treatment as a character both within comics and outside of them, and how she is always treated as the mother/daughter/love interest rather than an individual in her own right. These roles are important to her but she is also more than them, she is her own person. I think it's super interesting to look at how Talia would wrestle with balancing these roles whilst also not letting them be her own defining trait.

speaking of DC's treatment of women; they really should give Ace's mom a name. and bring back Lara as an astronaut explorer lore, that was cool
Or even just. The many many dead moms all over the place. Especially compared to the dead dads. Like even just look at the robins;
Dick: both parents dead
Jason: kinda vague on whether willis is dead or not sometimes but Catherine is dead, and then Sheila dies too, so he has two dead moms
Tim: Janet died way before Jack did, and was never relevant to any plot as a character in her own right, which you could kind of say the same for Jack being used as a plot device in Tim’s story, but at least he got used yknow
Stephanie: I’m pretty sure they killed off Crystal. Either that or she just was never brought up again after a certain point but Arthur is definitely around.
Damian: Damian is the weird one bc both his parents are alive, but talia was just like constantly villainised throughout so it’s not really a win for her
so out of five robins that’s only one definitely alive mom. With two definitely alive dads and another maybe alive dad. Like personally I think that number should be a bit more equal and I think it’s reflective of how dc really didn’t know how to handle female characters that weren’t there just to be sexualised. Which is possibly why talia survived - she already had a history of being a love interest to Bruce
Also for Tim is Dana - she moved to bludhaven for treatment for her depression (I think) and then. Bludhaven fucking exploded. What happened to Dana dc

thinking about how talia gave her baby up so that her father couldn't touch him and he would be safe. and thinking about an au where damian is raised by another family until his adopted parents are murdered by the league when he's ten so that he can be claimed as the al ghul heir. thinking about talia trying to keep him safe while also protecting him from the world she never wanted him to be part of -- teaching him the skills he needs to survive necessarily means sacrificing part of his innocence.
also, thinking about who damian would be if he were raised by more normal parents. i think he'd still be very intense and very intelligent, and i think you can keep the love of animals and the interest in art. if you want the snobby entitlement, you can sort of make it the entitlement of being a rich kid as opposed to being raised by the league? like keep the "i can speak five languages and i had the best tutors in the world" but the tutors were in like tennis instead of knife-fighting.
and i think having his parents murdered by the league is a nice way of giving him some of the tragedy necessary for batman characters and providing him with a source of anger towards talia (or bruce, if you want) because why didn't she do a better job of protecting them, how could she let this happen to them? and if they were murdered to get to him, you can throw in a level of guilt there.
you do lose some of the core of what makes damian interesting, which is his blood-soaked past that he is an undeniable victim of but also that he feels like he has to atone for. but that's inevitable if the basic premise of the au is "what if damian wasn't raised by the league?"

Where did canon SladexTalia even come from? Were they always some sort of fuck buddies or is it a retcon? And what's going on with Talia's 'oooh I don't know who's Damian's father. maybe it's Bruce 😙 or maybe it's Slade😘hehe' *groan* that was so cringy. And why did she want to have a child with Slade? It was so sudden and came out of nowhere. I just can't get my head around it.
If you mean this
Tumblr media
It comes from the fact that Christopher Priest is an absolute troll.
So basically Slade and Talia have a fling in Deathstroke Rebirth, the run written by Priest in 2016 (the same that gave us Slade sleeping with Joseph's fiancée and killing a dog for no reason, yeah that run is wild) and at some point Talia puts out there the notion that Damian might not be Bruce's son, but actually Slade’s (since apparently they used to have a fling back then too).
Now this is obviously a retcon, and it obviously makes no sense. If we go by the original version, Talia got pregnant while she and Bruce where together but she had a miscarriage - or so she told Bruce, because actually the child survived and Damian was born. Later on this was changed with the more famous, more spicy controversial version in which Talia drugged and raped Bruce to get herself impregnated (or to get Bruce's semen and grow Damian in vitro. Depends on the version).
In both cases there's no way the child can be anyone's but Bruce: in the first it's because she got preggered by him while they were having a relationship and it's a situation where she could have not been seeing anyone else (not even behind Bruce's back), and in the second case because why in the fudge should she have gone through all the trouble of drugging and raping the man only to NOT have a child with him and instead having it with Slade? Like WTF.
Also I recall that when Damian initially appeared, Bruce ran dna tests to make sure the boy was actually his, obviously. Imagine the world's greatest detective and the most paranoid man alive taking "btw this is your son bye" at face value.
So why the whole "Slade might be Damian's dad" thing? As I mentioned because Priest is a troll or so I'm inclined to believe. He really did not want to write Deathstroke Rebirth, and what way is there to piss fans off more than putting into question their beloved biological link between Batman and his bLoOd sOn (I love Damian but some fans and some DC writers alike tend to be a tiny little bit excessive over the whole "batman's son" thing, like calm down bro you're the ones pushing for a nuclear family dynamic for the whole "batfamily", but somehow at the same time Damian is Bruce's only "real" son like what the hell is wrong with you).
As my ex housemate once said, it would have been fucking funny if Slade was Damian's father in that timeline, even if it didn't make a lick of sense, just because everyone was losing their collective shit. But regardless if Priest did it to troll people, or if it was just a lame way to create some drama-driven plot, there was no way they were going to actually allow him to canonize it.
If there's anything about it in other comics beside Deathstroke Rebirth I am not familiar with them.

i’m sure you’ve talked about it before but you expand more on your thoughts about talia & jason and how their relationship would be? what are some positives and negatives their interactions would bring? (your talia metas are everything)
thank you! on talia's end i think a lot of it would come down to balance and restraint. because there are a lot of unpredictable factors at play and on top of it her tutelage of jason coincides with her last years under her father's thumb so there's parts of herself that she's beginning to close off out of self preservation and exhaustion. that's why i like the placement of under the hood right after the close of lexcorp era even if it obv wasn't intended because it puts her in a place comparatively to take all of the risks after a year of complete physical and emotional isolation. and even then i feel like there would still be a lot of restraint because of the guilt over her part in jason's various massacres. i could see her reprimanding him but in a very cautious and empathetic way so as not to set him off the way bruce would if he was the one lecturing him. so like.. not quite in the realm of mothering but maybe teetering on the edge of it. and i do think talia would try to maintain some distance out of respect for his history. which may or may not fuck with jason emotionally because as possessive as he is of his own grief i do think he'd long for even the smallest semblance of what he thinks he could get. like guarded as he is he would certainly soften to her over time and abide by her guidance even if he didn't necessarily verbalize the fact. i don't really know that i'd see any negatives between them like at worst it would be awkward and strained because he wouldn't be sure of how to place her in his life and she wouldn't want to overstep

The Prince Who Runs Through the Night
AO3
Fandom: Batman
Wordcount: 2509
Summary:
The figure that stepped out of the shadows and into the flickering light from the fireplace was Talia, holding something in her arms.
“Why are you here?” Helena asked. She didn't need any more pity, any more people pretending they knew how she felt, that they could understand her grief. She had lost her son. Nothing anyone could do was going to make it better.
“I need your help, beloved.”
Helena Bertinelli & Talia al Guhl in a Helena Bertinelli - Bruce Wayne roleswap AU.
Written for the Helena Bruce roleswap au. Happy Valentines day I guess. (Title picked solely on vibes and not the content of the episode I stole it from)
(See I can actually write fic about stuff other than No Man's Land...)
Excerpt:
There was someone else in the manor. Helena was aware enough to register the fact, but couldn't bring herself to care about who it was or what they wanted. She doubted it was Dick, not after the argument they'd had. It wasn't any of the staff, not at this hour night. Maybe it was a burglar. Maybe they'd come in and kill her. But then she'd be with Jason, so did it really matter?
The figure that stepped out of the shadows and into the flickering light from the fireplace was none of those. Instead it was Talia, holding something in her arms.
Helena went back to staring at the fire. “Why are you here?” She didn't need any more pity, any more people pretending they knew how she felt, that they could understand her grief. She had lost her son. Nothing anyone could do was going to make it better.
“I need your help, beloved.”
“I don't know why you'd want it.”
A sigh. Footsteps drew closer. Helena still didn't look up. “You are the best suited for this.”
“I'll only let you down!” Helena snapped, finally looking up.
The bundle in Talia's arms began to cry.
“Hush, hush my dear.” Helena could only stare as Talia began to rock the baby in her arms. “Your mother's here.”
“You have a baby.”
“Yes.”
“He's yours?”
She nodded.
“Who's the father?”
Talia pursed her lips. “He's not important.”
Helena's brain was starting to turn for the first time in what felt like ages. “Did he—”
“Beloved.” Talia cut her off. “It is none of your concern.” She took a deep breath and then there was a baby being placed in Helena's arms. She found herself shifting automatically, muscle memory taking over as she adjusted her grip.
“Talia, I—”
“Listen,” Talia said, voice low but in a tone that broke no argument. “You know as well as I what the league is like. I can not raise him.” Then, softer. “He's your son now.”
Helena found herself looking down, staring at the sleeping face of the boy she was holding. He was so small, his features so delicate. He was so breakable. She was going to break him. “Talia, I can't.”
“You are the only one I can trust with this.”
“Jason is dead because of me,” Helena said. “I got my son killed and you trust me with yours?” She knew her voice sounded desperate. She felt desperate, everything spinning out of control.
“If you let anything happen to him, I will destroy you.” She leaned down, her hand stroking at the few strands of wispy hair on his head. “But there are few others who can hold their own against father as you do.” Then she straightened up, looking Helena dead in the eye. “Beloved, if you hold dear the love we share, you will do this for me. You will give him the life he deserves.”
Helena breathed out. She felt... tired, not much of anything. A baby meant a lot of things. It meant so much that she would need to worry about later. She'd need to come up with a story, a reason that she had an infant out of nowhere. She knew that she had to say yes. “What's his name?”
“Damian. You'll do it then?”
“Yes.”
“Thank you.” Talia bent down, kissing first Damian on his forehead, then standing up and kissing Helena on her cheek. “I am in your debt.”
Helena nodded, unable to say anything while looking down at the baby in her arms. At her son and, God, she wasn't ready to be a mother again. She didn't think she'd ever be ready to be a mother again except now she had to be.
Talia left at some point, retreating back into the shadows, back to the league, leaving Helena alone with Damian, still trying to grapple with the way her life had changed. She needed to call her housekeeper, to ask her to get formula and diapers and all the things that babies needed that she didn't have. She needed to start forging documents and laying the groundwork for whatever story she was going to tell. None of that felt achievable just now though, Damian weighing her down far more than his slight weight should be able to. Just a little longer. She'd stay sitting just a little longer.

I haven't read much of talia/bruce/damian and their relationships but if you take talias want to get her son back after giving damian to bruce as her knowing bruce didn't love jason like he wanted (imo talias way of loving correlates more to what jason wants) and seeing that as lacking for damian, it kinda makes more sense than whatever reason writers are giving her now to have discussions about custody with bruce or whatever

stephanie brown dies at 16. at 16 and a quarter, she is woken up, screaming and thrashing and attacking, covered in acid green water. at 16 and three quarters, she has a young boy firmly attached to her side, calling her ukhti. she is learning what that word means, and what all the words spoken around her mean, from the woman who watched her rise from the water.
talia explains that she was not the one to retrieve her body, nor did she ask for it, but she did receive it. she explains that she knew bruce once, years ago. stephanie looks into the face of the boy curled up next to her and believes talia. talia says that she will not allow any more robins to be dragged to her doorstep, bodies cold and eyes closed. stephanie sees photos of a young man with the same green eyes as the rest of them, damian on his hip. she sees photos of him with a sword, with a gun, with nothing but his fists. she sees one photo of him as a child and— oh. the bright colors, the boyish grin, the shadow lurking behind him. at 17, stephanie understands.
at 17, stephanie decides that she won’t go back to gotham yet. she can’t. that’s where jason is, the other lost robin, talia tells her. at 17, she trains with staffs, swords, knives, guns, and whips. anything and everything she can get her hands on, even the things b would never let her touch. b thinks she’s dead, and whose fault is that? talia seems to think it’s b’s, but steph isn’t sure. she only knows one thing: this will not happen again. no more dead robins, she swears.
