this is the alec that everyone draws the first time they draw alec. hair not fully curly. vaguely fitting the description of A Little Guy but otherwise nondistinct. 4/10 this is what alec looks like from a distance of 15 feet if you squint

proof of the rule wrt alec that the masks people make up for him when they forget his canon design (literally just a blank white smirking mask) are always accidentally thematically relevant or interesting. wake up puppet boy. curly hair win but the outfit has not been fully faggified yet. 7/10 this sufficiently captures the essence of alec. i shouldve done a five-star rating system i like it better. oh well vibes-based 10 star system it is

these are all already scoring higher than many alecs because they come with the default understanding that he 1. is smalled 2. has curly hair and 3. is gnc so we can get into more specific critique. not actually a skirt wearer but that's my fault for trying to cram him in them anyway. it just will not take he just doesnt like skirts or dresses except for dead princess ghost nightgowns. he doesn't wear the super fancy clothing in public unmasked for a few reasons but, like, that's functionally a nitpick--it's alec looking like alec in clothing alec would, at one point or another, wear. 9/10

2023 Art Summary

I originally created my blog back in April, but I've decided to jump on the trend and share a compilation of some of my favorite works.

JANUARY

My first attempt at a digital painting style, featuring a character I don't believe I've introduced here before. A reimagining of the Tails Doll, with a Phantom Ruby twist: The Phantom Amalgamation (or Maggie, as my friends call them), made for Project Alacrity. I'll have to get around to redrawing them so they can have a proper introduction.

FEBUARY

Fanart for YouTube creator, Miharu the Fox. Whilst watching one of her streams, I asked what I should draw, with her co-host Marc suggesting that I should "Draw Spyro glitching into the abyss." Seeing that they were playing Spyro Enter the Dragonfly, it seemed only fitting. So I drew him shaking on top of a trapped baby dragon in ice.

MARCH

An attempt at a papercraft style using a tutorial by YouTube user, CariadsCoffee. The character pictured is Squirrelflight (or rather, Squirrelstar) from Warrior Cats, using my own design. Learning this method of drawing is what eventually led to me adopting the lineless style I use in many of my posts.

APRIL

Parody designs of Silver and Blaze, aptly dubbed Pothead and Lighter. They originate from a Sonic 06 parody comic for 4/20 that was written by my friend, @alzikeiswrong , and was illustrated in TuxPaint by me. Whether or not I decide to actually finish and post it is a mystery.

MAY

A post made as a gut reaction to discovering the amount of articulated parts the Jakks Pacific Tails Nine figure had. 70 points of articulation is ridiculous, but man is the figure amazing. I just wish he was to scale with the normal Tails figure.

JUNE

My second attempt at a digital painting, this time featuring Blaze the Cat. Manipulating the flames and how they interacted with Blaze and the background, was a fun challenge, as well as figuring out the textures and posing.

JULY

This is the point when I discovered my lineless style. Specifically the one I use when drawing my fursona, Sapph. Her design has developed a lot over the years, from being a Minecraft X Warrior Cats crossover OC, to slowly rounding out and becoming less Minecraft, gaining new design details in the process, to where she is now.

AUGUST

A drawing of multiple AU designs of Tails for Project Alacrity, socializing at some sort of get together. This was mainly a test to practice how to frame a drawing with multiple characters in it, as well as giving them each something to do. To show the differences between these various different versions of the same core character through their designs and how they interact with one another.

SEPTEMBER

One of the ask answers for my MommyClan cat's ask blog, @stepcousinclawspeaks . Stepcousinclaw was originally created for the fanclan in August, but this panel was one of my favorites. It shows his chaotic and often arsonistic side really well. I'll return to the blog soon for a big story update. Stay tuned!

OCTOBER

October brought with it the Sonic OC Showdown 2, which I had miraculously managed to get my Trace the Tasmanian to participate in. She passed the first round by a close call, but lost by a wide margin in the following. It was a good fight, with a good string of propaganda art coming from me and some of my supporters as a part of the campaign. Thank you all for supporting me while I was a part of it.

NOVEMBER

Whilst exploring through old files, I came across a template I saved. I used it to share the designs I made for various Warriors characters, some who I already had made designs for, and others I had to make up on the spot. One of my favorites was Spottedleaf. The balance of colors and details seem just right to me, as well as being a vast improvement from the color inaccurate one I had made as a ten year old.

DECEMBER

December's was fun. I haven't ever really had a "set style." Every time I try to revisit one specific design I always make something a bit off. Same can be said for this sketch style. I loved doing it. It felt the most accurate to how my art on paper feels as I draw it. Rough around the edges, but lifelike. Sadly I've had a hard time returning to it after dumping out all my thoughts around the 06 AU onto my screen. I've been working on it. There's more to see in the coming year, so I hope you'll stick with me to see how I can grow as a young artist!

The feral porn debate is in full swing again because of the fox puppet going viral so I talked to a few people, and I think I’ve worked out why this keeps happening. It’s about jargon and fandom language, and about generational differences in that language.

Fact is, feral in the dictionary and feral in furry don’t mean the same things.

In furry, feral historically only meant that a character has the silhouette and body plan of the real world version of its species, but implies nothing about sapience. So some ferals are sapient, some aren’t, some are in the middle - and this is only really decided by the artist who wrote or drew the character and it’s personality. So you get some literal realistic actually-wild-animals, some busty four legged foxes with eyelashes and do-me eyes, and everything in between.

It was used mostly for the purposes of tagging media or applying a genre to help people find artwork that featured those design traits.

(SIDE NOTE: You’ll find Anthro was also interchangeably used to mean bipedal for this purpose, despite the fact that “anthropomorphic” can mean any human trait, not just silhouette. Which means Bugs Bunny and Todd, the talking fox from The Fox and The Hound, are BOTH anthropomorphic. Yet Bugs might be tagged as Anthro and Todd as Feral, solely because of their body plans.)

But out of furry, feral specifically means a wild animal mindset (aka, a real or perceived absence of sapience). It is also used almost like slang or meme language by younger generations, often used to describe being super excited, acting erratically, and similar emotions.

So all these young furries are coming in, with a very different definition for the word feral, and then getting all up in arms about feral NSFW because that non-fandom association with that word is there.

Over time, some slowly adjusted to the “body plan” definition, but only enough that they understand the concept of a fursona being quadrupedal. The idea of porn for this type of character still bothers them, because in the back of their minds they still make this non-fandom association with the word, and it is only further reinforced by a very real fear of being accused of crimes they didn’t commit (and becoming a target of doxxing or harassment).

So now people who aren’t even old enough to drink or be on e621 are inaccurately calling thousands of artists animal rapists because they drew a cartoon dragon with a penis.

The frothing rabid crowd grows, and the longer it goes on the bigger the stakes get. Then your career or fandom standing is over if you get caught admitting to having a crush on Kovu from The Lion King when you were 9.

Eventually we get asinine claims, like “pup play is zoophilia,” “all furry porn is zoophilia,” “nekos are zoophilia” etc (we are here - these claims are circulating on twitter and tiktok as we speak).

I believe sapience is the moral issue most are having and we need to talk about that, not torment regular people for being gay furries.

We also need to talk about ways to keep teens and children out of adult-oriented furry spaces. You don’t belong in this section because you aren’t old enough or emotionally developed enough to be around it. With that in mind WHY on God’s green earth are you exposing yourself to media you aren’t supposed to be looking at constantly and trying to form a moral opinion on it?

ok for dragon stuff, immediate thought is like. Komodo dragon, bearded dragon, or Chinese water dragon bc of the name. Basilisk lizards are also kinda that, and theyre well known bc they can run on waterAlso- depending on the kinda vibe you wanna go for that might influence what reptiles u take inspo from. Like my main thoughts are "full fursona", where it's anthro but got a lizard head, "Demi human" where it's kinda like. Person with lot of reptile traits and/or like lamia stuff (snake bottom human top), or "shifter" which could give u a gradient of being more human or draconic at diff times.Also there's the question if u wanna include wings as a big part of the dragon, bc there's some like gliding lizards and snakes (the gliding lizard is called Draco I just looked it up bc I couldn't remember the name so. Nother dragon name 👍. Snakes r Chrysopelea) Also if u wanna give an elemental vibe, here's some stuff:Water: obv Chinese water dragon, but also marine iguanas swim. Basilisk for the running thing too lol. Sea snakes are really cool (and often super venomous)- I love sea snakes so much it's unreal. Special shout outs to sea kraits, love those guys (and sea kraits arent fully aquatic so theres a bit more leeway to have the character on land like. Real world logic wise). You could also play with gators/crocs/caimans or fresh/saltwater turtles if you wanna branch out. Also anacondas hang out in waterFire: not lizards but you could take inspo from salamanders (technically inaccurate but derives from old times- salamanders would hang out in logs, and when ppl tossed the logs into the fire they'd run out, so it looked like they were emerging from the fire). There's not a huge amount, but gila monsters might also be a good choice bc of their coloring (and living in hot places)Earth: basically most desert reptiles I'd say. Immediate thought is horny toads (small fat very cute and also yes they are called that). Gila monster again. Rattlesnakes, Kingsnakes (which eat rattlesnakes bc they are resistant to their venom), and since I mentioned turtles you could do a tortoise thing? Also some snakes will steal other animals burrows after they eat themPlant: iguanas (not marine), vine snakes (they're so skinny), eyelash vipers (icons), most geckos (crested, anoles, etc) chameleon, some monitorsAir: mostly the gliding reptiles I mentioned before lol Some other special mentions for interesting reptiles: elephant trunk snake, legless lizards, skinks, gaboon vipers (FAT) that one snake whose tail looks like a spider. I feel like I had more but I think my brain is fryingANYWAY reptiles are so cool! This is definitely kind of just a massive blast of diff reptiles lmao. If there's a specific vibe you're going for I could maybe narrow it down to reptiles that fit better lol!
