Iv put way too much though into an ace attorney au for dungeon meshi, and idk if this has been done before, but here's my take-
Chillchuck
Chillchuck would be a prosecutor - probably the Winston Payne of the au. He is smug and overconfident but loses his shit way too easily in court and lies/manipulates evidence (not that uncommon for aa prosecutors tbh but in a more overt way)-
Also he would need to stand on things to be tall enough to see over the table and I think that would be funny/ provide a good gimic for his character.
Marcille
Marcille would be the falsely accused but with kinda solid evidence for why they are being accused- she seems to have a proclivity to be in bad situations but I do not think she would actually kill anyone unless it was 100% valid and deserved + I think it was probably a wrong place wrong time situation and she was littraly just existing and found a crime scene and tried to take manners into her own hands wich made her 2000% more suspicious.
Laios
Laios would be a defense attorney that knows all of the material and what he's supposed to do in theory -but is over exited to use the knowledge and gets carried away and jumps to conclusions a bit to hastily
Falin
Falin would be the younger sidekick type characters that the aa protagonists always have that end up being very useful at keeping the protagonists (laios in this case) grounded and pointing out pretty obvious stuff they didn't get + her and marcellus can be childhood friends so in a case where marcellus is the defendant it can cause dynamics ++ her going missing could be an overarching plot
Kabru
Kabru would also be a prosecutor- probobly the main one- that kinda hated laios at first but they grow to kinda get along like they hang out outside of work but kabru still things he's a freak and keeps his work/confidentiality above there friendship (like a pheonix-edgeworth situation but with less gay undertones sorry laios x kabru enjoyers). He would be relitivly collected in the courtroom until laios said some unhinged shit that turns out to be correct somehow
Senshi
Senshi is the only one I can't figure out tbh I dont think he would be a prosecutor because that doesn't seem in character but I don't think he would be a defense attorney because he would think it's silly/not very affective- I genuinely just think he would hate the court system as a whole finding it unfair and under developed.
I could see him as a re-acuring side characters that comes up once in a while who just happens to be a key witness or comes to help in some way but idk.
Speed round for everyone else
- shuro is a witness that seems pretty confident in the testimony, and you only find contradictions on a technicality and/or small detail
- cithis is a prosecutor on par with von'carma (probably spelled that wrong) senior- aggressive and tries to end the case asap whatever the cost
- namari is a defense attorney that seems very put off at first but does what she can for her clients
- izutsumi is an unreliable witnes that ends up giving away vital info after being pressed enough
- mithrun barely survived an attempted murder and maizuru made you take his case
- sissel did a murder but feels justified (hell, he might even be justified depending on the case)
Plz note this theoretically would take place in an ace attorney style world that just happens to have multiple diffrent races so magic probobly would not be as common as in dungeon meshi but it's not off the table

S.V. Dáte at HuffPost:
WASHINGTON ― Would Donald Trump ever have become president if he hadn’t paid off porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet in the days before the 2016 election? The answer is impossible to know, but the premise of the question forms the basis of the very first criminal trial of a former president in American history: whether Trump’s scheme to keep Daniels’ claim of a 2006 affair with him under wraps was, in fact, a crime for which the coup-attempting former president should be punished. While “hush money case” has become the shorthand to describe the first of Trump’s four criminal cases to go to trial, particularly among Trump defenders who wish to diminish it, that is not how it will be described to prospective jurors Monday at the scheduled start of jury selection. Judge Juan Merchan’s first sentence of a 223-word summary describing the case to jurors reads: “The allegations are, in substance, that Donald Trump falsified business records to conceal an agreement with others to unlawfully influence the 2016 presidential election.”
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought the 34-count indictment against Trump just over a year ago, will argue that the ledger entries and other business documents Trump created claiming that he was paying lawyer Michael Cohen for “legal services” when in reality he was repaying him for the $130,000 check he delivered to Daniels, were felonies under New York law. “The core is not money for sex,” Bragg told New York’s public radio affiliate last year. “We would say it’s about conspiring to corrupt a presidential election and then lying in New York business records to cover it up.” Trump’s campaign did not respond to HuffPost’s queries for this report. He has primarily argued on social media and in his campaign speeches that the case was brought to hurt his efforts to regain the presidency, another piece of the “witch hunt” that he claims the “deep state” is conducting against him.
He repeated those claims Friday during a brief news conference. “It’s not even a crime,” he said. “It’s very unfair that we have this judge who hates Trump.” It’s unclear precisely how long the trial will last or even how many days it will take to seat a jury, although estimates suggest it could stretch into June. Merchan, in an April 8 letter to prosecutors and defense lawyers, noted the logistical challenges involved in trying a former president and presumptive major party nominee who travels with a substantial Secret Service detail. “In a case where security concerns are implicated every time anyone enters or exits the courtroom, or mingles around the corridors, moving the entire jury panel is no simple task,” Merchan wrote.
Bragg’s filing accompanying the indictment lays out the plan Trump and his ally David Pecker, publisher of the National Enquirer, developed to “catch and kill” stories that could hurt Trump’s presidential campaign. The scheme also involved paying off a doorman at a Trump building, who claimed Trump had a fathered a child outside his marriages, as well as a Playboy model, Karen McDougal, who also claimed she’d had an affair with Trump in 2006 and 2007. Neither of those payments, though, were made by Cohen, and the actual indictment only involves Trump’s reimbursements to him.
To what extent Trump’s successful pre-election silencing of Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, played a role in his narrow 2016 win is unclear. Trump lost the national popular vote by 2.9 million ballots but won Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania by a combined 77,744 votes, which gave him a healthy Electoral College victory. After watching his poll numbers crater after the Oct. 7, 2016, release of the “Access Hollywood” tape, in which he bragged that his celebrity allowed him to grab women by the genitals, Trump slowly recovered over the coming weeks as Russia’s spy agencies and their ally, Julian Assange, on a near daily basis released stolen emails designed to hurt Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
[...]
Whether it would have cost Trump the election, of course, does not matter in terms of his criminal trial. Prosecutors must only prove that Trump had Cohen make the payment to Daniels for the purpose of influencing the election and that he subsequently created fake business records to disguise the purpose of the reimbursements.
“I think the case is strong as a matter of both evidence and New York law,” said Norm Eisen, a White House lawyer under former President Barack Obama who recently published a book about the New York prosecution. “If Bragg proves that theory of the case, and I think he will, he will establish this was no minor hush-money peccadillo but a serious democracy crime.” Trump faces three other felony criminal prosecutions ― two of them based on his attempt to remain in power despite having lost reelection in 2020. A federal indictment could go to trial as early as late August, depending on the timing of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on his claim that he is immune from prosecution. A Georgia state prosecution based on his attempt to overturn his election loss in that state could also start later this year. An unrelated second federal prosecution based on his refusal to turn over secret documents he took with him from the White House to his South Florida country club has not yet been set for trial.
Today is the first day of Donald Trump's first criminal trial in New York v. Trump to determine whether the hush money payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal made by Donald Trump to falsify business records in order to influence the 2016 elections leads to convictions for Trump.
If Trump is convicted on even one charge, he'll be forever known as Convicted Felon Donald Trump, and that would hurt him at the polls come election day because people who are hesitant on voting Joe Biden again but don't like DJT likely won't vote for a convicted felon to lead the nation.

[Cappu-or-Treat - CW: None]
"Trick-or-treat!" Rang the excited crowd outside of the prosecutor's door.
The sound of cheerful kids and adults out and about nearly made Cappuccino slam his head into the wall next to him. This was one of his only vacation days, yet he was spending it handing out cheap candy to people in shoddy costumes bought at the last minute. Heading to the door of his rental home, he'd grab the bowl he left on a small stand- accidentally knocking over a couple of empty cappuccino cups- and open the door.
Immediately, he was met with shrill cheers from a crowd of kids that made his head hurt worse than staying up this late already did. "Yea, yea- take your candy guys!" Though bitter, he'd still try to at least force a playful form of disdain, even if it was laced with too much of the real thing. "Happy Halloween, guys! Stay out of trouble, or I'll prosecute you personally!" This fact was only half-true. At this point, Cappu feels like he could sue for emotional distress against this entire holiday. Ugh… he does not want to think about all the hoops he'd have to jump through to sue a recognized holiday.
Closing the door behind him, Cappuccino wouldn't even make it halfway across the room before getting another knock at his door. It took nearly all the strength the prosecutor had in him not to just keep walking and ignore the knocking. Though, if he did, there would just be more knocks and more annoyances. And if the parents were stupid enough, Cappu himself would be taken to court for 'unfair treatment' in handing out candy. People these days will cause legal trouble for any reason imaginable. Turning back around and opening the door with a forced smile, the people on the other side of the door would strike fear into Cappuccino. A nearly perfect trio of costumes- a highly customized card set. Queen of hearts, king of clubs, ace of spades…
Langue de Chat… being the Ace with a Jack of Diamonds in their headpiece... with their parents. "Trick-or-treat!" The three of them would chime together. "Oh, right, uh-" Cappuccino reached over and grabbed the bowl he forgot he left back where it usually was. He was absolutely not presentable. Hair greasy and knotted, attire a far cry from what he'd wear in court. Hell, he wasn't even in costume! For someone who didn't really care much about this holiday, being presented like this in front of people so important made him entirely conscious of his lack of Halloween appeal.
And yet here Langue was, probably in a costume made by their family to match the three of them. They probably got to pick the theme and materials and everything… Slept so well at night knowing how well the costume would turn out. They likely even got to pick the best area to go trick-or-treating in, getting as much candy as-… Wait. Cappuccino would wind up staring Langue in the eyes as he handed out candy. "You know this is one of the worst places to go trick-or-treating at, right…? Most people around here can barely pay their rent." Unknowingly, he handed out a second piece to Langue… or was that on purpose?
"I know that! You think I didn't research into what places gave out the most candy before we came out here?" Langue would laugh, embarrassing the prosecutor more than his appearance being seen by their parents did. "I chose to come out here to see you. Once we're done trick-or-treating, I was hoping to spend some time with you…" Even while he looks like this? "I know it's sudden, and I had to beg my parents to let me stay so late, but… it's Halloween! I'm staying up late anyways, so may as well make the most of it, huh?" May as well… ha. This defense attorney doesn't know the meaning of 'staying up late' if they seem so happy about it. Even so, with a wobbly smile, the sleep-deprived mess would wind up agreeing.
"I'll clean my place up for you. I mean, it's-" Cappu glanced between the parents that stood behind Langue- "It's already fairly clean, I just need to put away some documents and do a little dusting! I'll, uh. I'll see you later, right?" "Yes! It should be in… about two hours? Trick-or-treating for this area only lasts three hours." That long? Cappuccino didn't want to deal with kids for two whole hours… But if he was to be rewarded with time with Langue de Chat of all people, how could he refuse a challenge like that? Maybe he'll be able to scrounge together a costume in that amount of time, too. "Oh, right, I also need to give you this." The prosecutor perked up, watching as Langue ever so delicately plucked the jack of diamonds from out of their hair and handed it over to him. "We were planning on having one of my cousins trick-or-treat with us, but they got too busy, so… Tomorrow, if you'd like, you can come with us to the other place we plan on going for candy collection. We'll have your costume set up and everything." "Oh! I- sure!" Cappuccino would flush at the offer, taking the card in hand and failing to hide how flattered he was at the offer. He cleared his throat, trying to keep his cool prosecutor demeanor to prevent himself from looking more like an embarrassment in front of the guardians in front of him. It was already too late, but he could at least try to clean up some of the mess. "We can discuss this more once you're done trick-or-treating. I don't want to hold you guys up for too long."
It was surprisingly easy to get the three to move along with that sentiment. The prosecutor would sigh and turn back, closing the door and looking to the card in his hand. Should he laminate this? This felt much more special than he was making it out to be, but… Having not celebrated Halloween for years, and finally being able to with someone so important to him… No, yeah, this is going in lamination. A little 'thunk' was enough to snap the prosecutor from his thoughts. Another cappuccino cup had fallen from somewhere. It was at this moment that Cappu realized that he REALLY needed to clean the place up. He needed to clean himself up, too. As much of a chore as it would be… this place should at least look livable for visitors. Especially if that visitor is Langue de Chat. Well… Cappuccino took a deep breath, setting the candy bowl down and turning off the porch light. Time to get to a different kind of work.

Winter prompts - gift giving - Melkor/Maedhros (maybe Modern AU) (maybe Maedhros giving the Silmarils to Melkor, because he got addicted to fucking Melkor, in his ass and tits)
Tumblr media
❅ Prompt: Gift Giving | Melkor x Maedhros ❅ Synopsis: After failing to get the Silmarils from Fëanor, Melkor seduces Maedhros to use him to get what he wants. ❅ Warnings: Melkor's weird sex magic ❅ Triple drabble
» AN: Lovely idea! Hope you don't mind that I ended up writing canonverse, just happened to be what I was feeling and imagining.
Tumblr media
It was, quite simply, unfair that the mightiest of the Valar was so unfathomably alluring.
Whenever Maitimo laid eyes on him, as soon as he heard his voice, he was caught in whatever web of magic Melkor was skillfully spinning around him, his all too willing prey. Many times in the past had he then given in, drunk on pleasure and addicted to the feeling of magnificent, once-holy flesh welcoming his manhood, wherever and however he took the wily creature that was now reclining on his bed.
How in Eru's name did his father manage to resist, Maitimo lamented in his mind as he was inevitably, inexorably drawn closer, his eyes already searching Melkor's body to determine how he would like to take him today –
But then his passionate musings were cut short by a cool, naked foot pressing against his chest, pushing him back with the force of an avalanche. He shivered instinctively, knowing that the Vala was holding back and could have broken his hröa beyond repair if it pleased him.
"You want me again," Melkor said, a fey light in his eyes. "But don't you think you should give me something to show yourself worthy of my favour? Is that not how a lover should be treated?"
"What do you want," Maitimo breathed, forcing himself not to run his palms over the wonderfully muscular leg presenting itself to him and to avert his gaze from the part of the Vala's anatomy that lay in-between. "Whatever you want, it's yours –"
"The Silmarils."
"They are not mine to give, my lord."
"But you could find a way, could you not?"
Melkor removed his foot from his chest, only to wrap his legs around him when Maitimo came closer, both daunted and lured in by the power of his gaze.
"You are your father's eldest," he purred. "Whatever he calls his own is already yours by birthright, is it not?"
His voice failing him, Maitimo nodded. Dread grasped his heart, a premonition of evil that would come to pass and a sense of betrayal, but then his worries were swept away when Melkor swiftly drew him into his mighty embrace and acquiesced to his desire, welcoming him inside.

prison break::: time served
For @sdonovan91
Tumblr media
“That thing is hideous Derrick. Why do you insist on having that on your desk.?” Brenda the secretary was always creeped out by stuff like this. Derrick thought the little totem dude was cool. That’s why he kept it on his desk. It always struck up a good convo with the clientele he served. Derrick was a criminal defense attorney. It was obvious to him at the start of law that he wanted to represent people who would be considered low life’s. He had a sense of jealousy for them. He was always pushed to be the best. Good grades. Always stay out of trouble. Never do anything out of line. And his clients mesmerized him. Most not even making it out high school before they dropped out. Working low wage jobs. Making bad decisions based on that. Everything was so enchanting about them. Which is why his totem always brought up good conversation. He’s been told so many times by several of them how “kewl” it looked and how they needed a little guy like that followed by the “huhu”. Each time causing Derrick to get hard instantly and having to hide his excitement from his clients. And the things they would tell him only made his job even better. Personal things even. Things that you wouldn’t tell someone normally.
Today he was meeting with Rex. Literally. Seeing the man’s name on the file Derrick could t help but think about what kind of man he was going to meet. And his name was hyphenated. T-Rex. Derick leaned back in his chair hands on his head. “Dear lord this one sounds like a character. Who names their kid this !” Reading over the info he seen the man was 24. High school drop out. Construction crew working but found guilty of possession. That was usual stuff for Derrick to see. Scanning over the chart he bust out laughing. “His name is Theodore Rex!!” It wasn’t long before Brenda came over the speaker in his office telling him that mr Rex was there to see. Derrick was so excited. He couldn’t wait to see what he was going to be dealing with. “Send him in !!”
Derrick was not prepared for what he was greeted with.
Tumblr media
Rex walked through the door with a cigarette in his mouth. Wearing his work gear. Dirty. Smelly. Perfect. He took a seat in front of derricks desk. A seat that was in front of window that showed the trees outside. Rex adjust himself in the seat and you could hear his heavy booted feet moving around. And smell them too. “Well Rex. I’m gonna be your lawyer. and the first thing I’ll have to mention to you is you can’t smoke in”. Rex looked a little blank and then giggled. “Man I forgot where I’s at” and he put the cigarette out on the chair arm. Singeing the fibers. Melting them. The sme of burn fibers rose in the air. Jesus he’s amazing— derrick thought to himself. “Rex I’ve reviewed your case. This is a small drug charge this time. But the issue is your record. You’ve been In Jail several times and this time they are going to want the max penalty for you. It looks like they are wanting 5 years on ya. But I managed to talk them down to a year. But you’d have to go through probation . Again for the remaining 4. “. Rex slouched in his chair. “Man I caint be doing that ! If I got back In they make me take all my piercings out. And this one just healed up!” Rex said grabbing his crotch and giving it a firm shake. “Fuck dude why I gotta be the one that always gets caught !” He leaned over and held his head in his hands. “Damn bro. Caint ya get something better !?” When he shook himself like that Derrick practically came on himself right there hut he managed to contained his composure. “I’m sorry Rex that is the best agreement I could get from them. You have to report to the jail house for processing by tomorrow afternoon.” Rex let out a loud sigh. “This is so unfair. And right when I’s getting my life back on track ! I even gots a good job this time!” He leaned back in the chair rubbing his stomach. “I hate jail. The food sucks.” Derrick was edging right now. Rex was going to have to leave soon or else he was going to lose it on this simple hot soul. Derrick envied this man so much. All his choices placing him once again in jail. With no way to fight it ! “Well Rex if I could serve the time for you I would. But I’m sorry. This is the best I could do”. Rex exhaled. “Yeah bro I know. It just me making dumb choices all my life. I wish i didn’t make all these stupid choices landing me here.” Huhu he chuckled dumbly. “Hell I wish I could be lawyer for once making good money”. He got up from the seat. This time Derrick could hear a noticeable clinking from the man’s crotch as the piercings jingled slightly. “I have to go let mah boss know wuts happening. He ain’t gonna be thrilled. But I guess it ain’t matter now considering I got a year to deal with. Thanks tho man”. He said as he reached out his hand to shake it with Derrick. Derrick shook the man’s touch callused hand. It was a working man’s hand. He could almost feel every groove in Rex’s hand while is made contact with his own soft hand. Derrick walked rex out of the office. Not even noticing that his totems eyes were joe glowing red. And soon faded back to normal when Derrick was back at his desk.
Derrick finished up his work day and went home. In his apartment he finally let lose. He couldn’t contain it any more and started getting off to Rex. He brought the man file home so he could read it over again. Looking all the horrible choices this simple man made. He even had to keep himself from dripping the sweet sex all over the file when he was reading about how Rex had failed a dui screening and even told the cop “cum on bro it was only 7 beers !” Everything this man had to himself to end up where he was make Derrick so jealous. He fell asleep on his couch. The mornin and Derrick was woken by a rooster right outside his window. That’s weird. He didn’t have farm animals living In the city. He sat up right and the fold away bed collapsed with him. His knees were in his face and he noticed immediately something was off. He could smell something was off. His surroundings had changed from luxury to cheap and wood paneled. He smelled of Bo. Feet. And he could smell marijuana. What the hell was going on ?! He stumbled to what he could tell was a make shift bathroom across the hall and was shocked. Standing there. Looking right at himself in the mirror. Was Theodore Rex. Smelly. Pierced. Tattooed. He stumbled backwards falling into the shower hearing the clanking nose come from his groin. He panicked. What was going on? Everything was different. He was standing alone In a run down bathroom of an old trailer. The place looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in years. And his head was throbbing as he could he was coming down from what would be considered a high. Looking in the mirror again he began to scream. Pulling at his face. At his piercings. At his dick. Everything was wrong ! He was a lawyer. Not some low life names trex! When he tugged at his crotch he could feel the modification which sent shivers of pleasure up his body. And before he even realized it a thick heavy load came out landing on his foot. He tried to get water from the sink but none of the faucets worked !! He stumbled back to the smelly room. Whiping his foot with shah he found out was his only pair of socks. Dirty and crusty already from all the times being worn. He couldn’t live like this !
Tumblr media
Derrick found a pair of ripped jeans but no shirts to wear. Even thought he didn’t want to he put on the socks as he couldn’t care the smell of his feet any longer. And out on the heavy work boots shah Rex was wearing just the day before. Still moist from the previous day of work. There was no deodorant in the trailer. And no running water for him to clean himself! He was literally a walking piece of trash. There was a loud bang at the door. He stumbled to it and when he opened it police where there. They drew they noses back from the smell of him. “We came to pick you up since you didn’t report as you were told !” He was pulled out of the small trailer. And handcuffed. The cops argued over who would transport him from the stench being so bad. Derrick tried to argue with them. He wasn’t the man they were looking for ! “That’s it. We are going to charge you with resisting arrest just for this !” Wut. Derrick had never committed a crime in his life !! He tried to argue with legal jargon but all that was like a foreign language to him now. As soon as he thought of it the information quickly left his dimming brain.
————
A month passed and Derrick was told he had a visitor. He had tried finding anyway possible to prove that he was not Rex but all was a failure. In the visitation room he stopped in his tracks. Right there at the table waiting to speak to him was his own body ! He sat down. Shackles clinking with his hand cuffs. “Hey Derrick. I see you’ve been doing… well?” Derrick was shocked. This must be “Rex is that you ?” Rex responded telling him yes. He told him how he work up in his body that night a month ago and was shocked. He told him how he was afraid to leave his apartment for a few days. But then he mustered up the courage to go to the office. And that’s when he was able to teach himself law. In one month! “You’re a really smart man Derrick ! I was able to learn so much stuff. I wanted to check on you. It seems like we got what we wanted. I’m now the lawyer with no criminal record. And you’re getting to serve my time. Ain’t that so kewel!! Wait …no…. That is so cool. You see I am a faster learner now haha”. Derrick was shocked. “Rex you have yo fix this ! I can’t be in here. I’m not supposed to be in here ! “. Rex just laughed at him in his own body. “Actually REX. You are supposed to be in here. You REX are a criminal. Just look at you. You look like. You have the finger prints of one. Hell…you even smell like one too. I just wanted to come by and see you. I won’t be coming back. When you get out in a year MAYBE we can meet up and figure this out. But I have no intention of going back to that body for at least 5 more years.” And with that he stood up and walked to the door to leave. He stopped by the guard on the way out. “Can you have him bathe. He smells like he got athletes foot or something. He so smelly !” The guard just chuckled and told him how they had him bathe every day. But still the smell remained. It remained on HIS criminal body !
Derrick was escorted back to his cell. Trapped in his new existence. Trapped as a criminal. He now has everything he ever envied of his clients. He had become the very thing he found erotic. He hates to admit it. When Rex told him he wasn’t going back for at least 5 years it make his own cock spring to life. He hid in his cell and released his excitement all over his dirty feet. Getting to the idea of being stuck in the body of T-Rex was so disgusting and humiliating to him. But he couldn’t help but love every minute of how he was being forced to be like this. He was getting dumber by the day. More violent outbursts. Using grammar incorrectly. And every day it turned him on more. In the end though At least now he had running water.

Elrond and Turgon for the tolkien bingo thing?
Elrond and his great-grandpa 🥺
Turgon:
Tumblr media
I feel like I'm stepping into my defense attorney shoes again. Turgon is a great character and I'm really flummoxed by how much he's hated by the fandom. Yes he--as with basically ALL characters in Silm--made mistakes (ignoring Ulmo) but it also seems like he really tried to do the right thing and he cared about doing the right thing. He built Gondolin to be a safe haven for the Elves (and also in memory of Tirion, for which he was pretty explicitly homesick). He is the only one who tried to send ships back to Aman to get help for Middle-earth. He agonized over whether to stay in Gondolin or evacuate as Melkor starts turning up the heat. Gondolin is explicitly noted to take in former prisoners of Angband, of whom the rest of the world is deeply suspicious (not without cause).
And he loses so much. He and his family are made kinslayers in Alqualonde for the sake of the Feanorians, who then abandon them. He loses his wife on the Helcaraxe and Aredhel first to an abusive marriage and then to murder right in his own court. His youngest brother gets killed in the first battle they have in Middle-earth. His dad's body is dumped on his doorstep after he gets smashed by Melkor. His older brother is stomped to a bloody pulp by balrogs. He's betrayed by his nephew, whom he took in and raised, and his entire city which had been a refuge for centuries is razed to the ground. This guy cannot catch a break!
A lot of the Turgon hate seems to come from the idea that he was unfair to or mistreated Maeglin which I just do not buy. Everything in every version of this story suggests to me he fostered Maeglin and tried to have a positive relationship with him. Whether Maeglin never liked or trusted Turgon, or whether he eventually grew to desire power and Idril over any positive feelings he may have had for Turgon is up for debate, but there is no evidence Turgon ever neglected him.
Of his siblings, I think he was particularly close with Aredhel, despite their disagreements. The fact that she went with him to Gondolin, presumably understanding it was intended to be a one-way trip, suggests to me they must've liked each other a lot, or she never would have gone at all.
I am also delighted by his friendship with Finrod, because it's easy to see them as very different people, and yet their friendship persisted. I think they really consider each other like brothers and it must have killed Turgon to find out about Finrod's death, especially since they hadn't seen each other in centuries at that point. It's also very possible he didn't learn about Finrod's death until well after it had happened. Maybe that shouldn't make a difference, but I think it would. Finding out your beloved friend who you thought was alive and well has actually been dead for years, and died brutally and alone in the dungeons of Sauron? Ouch.
I think he should get credit for being like, the only Elf parent who seems completely unconcerned with his daughter marrying a mortal. As far as we can tell from the text, he takes zero issue with Idril and Tuor's relationship and has no problem welcoming Tuor into the house.
Also, Turgon going down with Gondolin and the whole "Great is the fall of Gondolin" -> "Great is the victory of the Noldoli" thing are such badass impeccable vibes. Turgon to me is someone who tries a lot and he doesn't always get it right, but that's part of what makes him interesting. Yeah it turned out to be a mistake to follow Fingon into Alqualonde...but he was trying to defend his family. Yeah he should've listened when Ulmo said it was time to ditch Gondolin...but he was proud of what they had built and it seemed safer than the rest of Middle-earth. To me, his mistakes were reasonable in the circumstances and they make him more than the stodgy, cranky counterpart to Fingon he's often seen as in fanon.
Elrond:
Tumblr media
Is there anyone who doesn't like Elrond? I don't think I've ever seen one. Elrond is a character I liked long before reading The Silmarillion, but reading that really makes your heart break all the more for him. Here, again, is a character who has lost so much and yet in spite of that manages to stay kind and gentle--and not without effort on his part, I'm sure!
Given the events of his youth, it would have been so easy for Elrond to be bitter and angry, but he isn't (at least not by the Third Age). He doesn't do terrible things or act like a jerk and blame in on having had a hard childhood. If anything, his difficult experience seems to inspire him to ensure others don't have that kind of experience.
I don't have my copy of LotR with me so I can't look for quotes right now, but I love the callbacks there to his mom and dad and how he followed the tradition of his maternal family in naming his own sons. It must have felt so unfair to have them taken from him, and he never really got to know them, but that connection is still there and it clearly means a lot to him. I am so invested in Elrond getting to see Earendil and Elwing again in Valinor.
The naming tradition is particularly interesting since Elrond's maternal culture is effectively erased by the Third Kinslaying. There's nothing really left of Doriath or the Iathrim and there's no mention of them after that outside the note that Oropher led the straggling remains of them to the Greenwood where they took up the traditions of the Silvan there. Because Elrond was taken away from them, he really loses any chance to connect with his maternal culture until adulthood, where he might seek out what remains of the Iathrim, if he wanted. Yet he chooses to stick to the naming tradition of the royal family, one of the few pieces of their legacy that he knows of. I suppose I see him as someone who is continually seeking out those bits of information, trying to learn more about Doriath, about Gondolin, about the people and places his parents came from, about his heritage. He had no one to teach it to him, so he has to figure it out himself.
I wish we got to know more about his relationship with Celebrian! He basically falls for her at first sight but we don't get a lot of elaboration and it would be interesting to know more about their dynamic since she's out of the picture by LotR.
His goodbye with Arwen literally rips my heart out every time. Agony. At least she'll get to meet Uncle Elros.
Also, it's so fun telling LotR fans who haven't read Silm "btw Galadriel is Elrond's mother-in-law."

ik i usually just post art but this is eating me alive
the ace attorney fandom has generally accepted that gregory edgeworth is inspired by atticus finch. and like, they’re right. there’s the obvious that gregory looks like him and is named gregory after the actor playing atticus. but my brother in christ they are the exact same character. like down to the story and circumstance
spoilers for aa case 1-4 and i guess also to kill a mockingbird. also disclaimer i have not played the investigations games so anything about gregory in there i have no knowledge of
at the end of tkamb, Atticus believes his son Jem has committed murder in self defense. (this is not true. Boo Radley actually was the one who committed the murder. but atticus does not know this) and Atticus insists Jem has to go to court for this, and not have it be covered up. like if Jem went through the trial he wouldn’t go to jail, but still, you’d think he wouldn’t want to put his son through a public trial like that. and at first you think it’s because he wants to be as fair as possible. that he cares so much about the law that he’ll put his son through court for it. but then, when the sheriff suggests covering up Boo’s involvement, Atticus has no problem with this. it’s clearly not about following the law exactly, so then why does he want Jem to go through trial? it’s because he wants his children to see him as fair. he thinks that if he covers up Jem’s “murder” his children won’t see him as a fair person, because he’s given Jem preferential treatment and kept him out of court. he values his relationship with his children above all else and is willing to put Jem through court for it. and the key thing here is that he can afford to do this. he knows that if Jem gets sent to court he’ll be fine, and doesn’t have to worry about any other outcome, because he and his children are a middle class, white family.
now. it’s never explained exactly why gregory tells the police he was killed by yogi, but if you think about it a little, it makes sense. picture it. you’re gregory edgeworth, and you’re being spirit channeled. how much does he remember before his death? there are a few possibilities
1) he remembers being attacked by yogi and the gun sliding out, and nothing more
2) he remembers miles throwing the gun and it going off, and nothing more
3) and the least likely (but still makes sense) possibility, he remembers the gun going off AND heard von karma’s scream, and knew who it was
now with each of these possibilities. what is his chain of logic after being told he died of a gunshot wound in a locked elevator:
1) it is completely unclear who mightve killed him. it makes a little more sense to be killed by yogi, but miles being involved is still possible
2) he knows his son threw a gun in his direction. he knows he died of one gunshot wound. he obviously has to consider the high probability of him being killed by his son
3) he somehow has put together the facts fully. he knows von karma killed him. he also knows there is no way von karma will see justice. the story is not plausible.
in every single situation, there is the possibility his son either killed him or would be accused of it. the single difference between gregory and atticus? gregory does not have privilege in his situation. we know in the ace attorney universe, court is extremely corrupt and skewed towards prosecutors and the state. if miles was to go on trial for his father’s murder, there is no way he would be declared innocent, ESPECIALLY if von karma was to prosecute, and with his grudge he absolutely would. gregory could have told the truth. he could have said he doesn’t know who killed him. but just like atticus finch, he values his son over the law. he lies and tells them he was killed by yogi, to make sure miles is not accused.
tldr gregory edgeworth and atticus finch are both fighting a corrupt and unfair court system and are forced to choose their children over the law. the only difference is that atticus has privilege in the eyes of the law, and gregory has disadvantage

Justice & Liberty "Libby" Lawson by @attorneybout
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Info:
okay so these!! aren't as fleshed out as riley and kiara they're kind of just silly little guys mostly.
libby, 17, is one of kiara's friends, alongside trinity and kat (collectively known as the cool bitch club). libby is very like… calm and chill most of the time she's just vibing mostly. the kind of guy you'd see in a group chat. absolutely hates that she was named liberty eagle lawson that's right her middle name is eagle she's living a nightmare. she was literally born on the 4th of july the universe just said "hey fuck you. get america'd" and she hasn't lived it down yet. anyways the group of friends i roleplay with that i use her in jokes that she would kin sans and tbh…. probably right. she's usually pretty calm but if anyone hurt her brother she'd kick their ass
justice, 10, is just a silly little guy!! just a little silly! he's one of riley's best friends and he looks up to her even though she's only 2 years older than him. he's really silly goofy, very optimistic, tries to see the best in everyone, and overall he just wants to help people whenever he can!! he's like a blorbo to me.
they're actually half siblings! they share a dad. their dad used to be… not distant, and not away on purpose, but during his first marriage, when he had libby, he would bite off more than he can chew and end up promising things that he couldn't deliver, fully thinking he would be able to. it's what led to his divorce. since then, though, he's worked on bettering himself and is a much better father to justice than he was to libby when she was younger. she's not entirely unaffected by this but she can at least appreciate that he's improving.
they also! have a cousin, who's a lawyer. a defense attorney. and justice especially really looks up to him because he also wants to be able to stand up for people and defend people in need like that and justice i think really just wants, at his core, to help people who need help, like one of his main interests is superheroes because that's their whole thing really.
anyways fun facts!!
justice has a really cool racecar bed
libby helped justice try to paint his racecar bed and it didn't go very well but they both have fond memories of it
libby and kiara honestly probably met through justice and riley
libby is really into activism. in a sense both siblings have a strong sense of justice and aim to help those who need it
i mentioned earlier that they had a lawyer cousin but i didn't mention said cousin is phoenix wright of ace attorney fame
libby actually convinced her high school to unionize. her logic is that teachers are evaluated on the grades their classes get- so if a teacher is being unfair or necessarily harsh, the students can go on strike by refusing to do any assignments, forcing the teacher to fail ALL of their students and then get poor evaluations and probably fired. it's been surprisingly effective and she's very proud of the student union
libby is the kind of person who says "stealing from walmart is always morally correct"
justice hasn't been exposed to the nuances of stealing so he doesn't agree but i think once he's been exposed to how companies kind of fuck people over he probably will stop seeing an issue with, like, shoplifting a bottle of water from walmart
libby is a lesbian
justice hasn't had time to fully realize his gender yet but when he gets older he'll realize he's genderfluid i think :3

Dust & May by @ecleticelectriceccentric
Tumblr media
Info:
Dust is the Vessel of the Holy for the Path of Righteousness, a cult/religion. This necessitates that he be excised of all sin and made ready for possession by the Holy- via torture. Also he’s trans and has taken to reciting the Bible-equivalent as a coping mechanism.
May-Salvation-Come-to-this-Wretched-Thing (goes by May, named by the Righteous) is a were-Tasmanian Devil, taken in by the same church. She, too, must be exorcised.
She’s about four years older than him, and they were thrown in the same basement. She became his primary caretaker, and they basically adopted each other. She fervently hates the Righteous, but is determined to protect him at all costs.
When May was about fourteen, the ‘exorcisms’ went too far, the Tasmanian Devil took over, and May died. She then possessed Dust as a ghost and promptly broke them out.
Dust doesn’t remember how he got out, or how May died, and May doesn’t want to tell him. May thinks he should hate her, she hates herself for everything, but can’t bear to lose him.
If they advance I’ll give more Lore :>

The Los Angeles Innocence Project has taken up the notorious case of convicted wife killer Scott Peterson in new court filings, ABC News was first to report on Thursday. The group is seeking new evidence from the original trial.
Laci Peterson, who was 27 years old and eight months pregnant, disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. Her body was found in San Francisco Bay in April 2003.
Scott Peterson, 51, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife and second-degree murder in the death of their unborn son. He was convicted in 2004 and sentenced to death in 2005. He was later sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Attorneys with the LA Innocence Project claimed that Scott Peterson's state and federal constitutional rights were violated, including a "claim of actual innocence that is supported by newly discovered evidence," according to the court filings.
"New evidence now supports Mr. Peterson's longstanding claim of innocence and raises many questions into who abducted and killed Laci and Conner Peterson," the filings state.
His attorneys are seeking dozens of items they say they could not locate after reviewing the trial files from his prior counsel "after a thorough search," according to the filings. The items include evidence from the investigations into a December 2002 burglary of a home across the street from the Petersons' in Modesto in Stanislaus County, Laci Peterson's missing Croton watch, and a van fire in the Airport District on Dec. 25, 2002, according to the filings. They are also seeking documents from interviews with several witnesses.
Paula Mitchell, the director of the LA Innocence Project, said she found "deficiencies" while reviewing the discovery of Scott Peterson's case and sent a letter to Stanislaus County District Attorney Jeff Laugero on Nov. 14, 2023, "seeking informal production of numerous specific items of post-conviction discovery," according to a declaration included in the filings.
The letter "includes private identifying information concerning numerous citizens, potential material witnesses, and possible suspects -- as well as sensitive investigative leads relating to Mr. Peterson's claim of innocence-information that was referenced throughout various police reports, tip sheets, and other investigative materials from both the prosecution and the defense that I reviewed," she said in her declaration.
Mitchell also said during her investigation, she has come across "numerous witnesses" who have expressed hesitation or "outright unwillingness" to provide information due to the high-profile nature of the case.
Scott Peterson, who pleaded not guilty, has maintained his innocence and claimed he received an unfair trial based on possible jury misconduct. His lawyers have previously claimed that a woman, known as Juror 7, had not disclosed involvement in other legal proceedings.
In 2020, the California Supreme Court overturned Scott Peterson's death sentence, citing that his jury was improperly screened for bias against the death penalty, according to court documents.
He was resentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in December 2021 and moved off death row in October 2022.
In December 2022, Superior Court Judge Anne-Christine Massullo denied Scott Peterson "relief" in his appeal based on stealth juror accusations.
Scott Peterson's attorney, Pat Harris, said in a statement to ABC News on Thursday that they are "thrilled to have the incredibly skilled attorneys at the LA Innocence project and their expertise becoming involved in the efforts to prove Scott's innocence."
The LA Innocence Project -- which provides pro bono legal services to people incarcerated in Central and Southern California who may have been wrongfully convicted -- said in a statement later on Thursday that it is representing Scott Peterson and "investigating his claim of actual innocence."
"We have no further comment at this time," the organization said.
Mike Belmessieri, who served as a juror in Scott Peterson's trial, told ABC News on Thursday that there isn't a day that goes by where he hasn't thought about the case. He said he supports the LA Innocence Project's review of the case.
"If they think they're going to find something different, that sheds light on something new, I fully support it," Belmessieri said.

The Justice Fairies AU
(Rainbow Magic x Ace Attorney Crossover AU)
Was recently reminded of the Rainbow Magic book series which is one of my first forays into g/t and then I thought, wouldn’t it be so much fun to have a crossover with my current g/t hyper fixation, Ace Attorney. So here is that AU.
Full Credit goes to @musicallygt cause I initially pitched the idea of Rainbow Magic crossover AU in the AA discord but they went all in with basic story idea, the AA characters that would make up the Justice Fairies (And drew them out too omg they look amazing!), even a freaking Jack Frost poem!! So yeah most of the ideas listed bellow were suggested by/or with them.
Synopsis: Jack Frost learns about the Justice Fairies of Fairyland and finds it unfair that he doesn’t get any justice of his own. He steals the Justice Fairies’ relics and hides them with his goblins on Earth. Around the same time Rachel and Kirsty have flown out to Los Angles for a week with their families. When they arrive they quickly discover how bad things have gotten, even being arrested for a crime they didn’t commit! Phoenix the Defense Fairy arrives and tasks the girls to help him and the other Justice Fairies find their relics to fix the Justice system. Things get even more complicated when the girls get roped into helping rookie lawyer, Apollo Justice, with a case.
The Seven Justice Fairies in this AU are:
Phoenix the Defense Fairy
Edgeworth the Prosecution Fairy
Gumshoe the Investigation Fairy
Maya the Assistant Fairy
Athena the Analytical Psychology Fairy
Ema the Forensic Science Fairy
Courtney the Judge Fairy
Bonus: Kay the Thief Fairy (She doesn’t have a major role in the main story of this au but has fun side story that might be explored as an epilogue or bonus chapter)
Just Some General Notes About the AU:
- Obviously since most of the main AA cast are fairies in this AU a lot of the AA canon is being either disregarded or reworked.
- The missing relics are: Phoenix’s Attorneys Badge, Edgeworth’s Prosecutor’s Badge, Missle (The Fairy Investigation Dog), Maya’s Magatama, Widget, Ema’s Forensic Glasses, and Courtney’s Gavel
- In the first book Rachel and Kirsty are trying to clear their names, with Apollo’s help while also looking for Phoenix’s badge, then Apollo gets a real case and the rest of the fairies will tie in with that case.
- Apollo doesn’t initially find about fairies but does suspect Rachel and Kirsty are hiding something. Later on in the story they do tell him the truth and he does end up helping in the search for the Justice Relics.
- When Apollo uses his perceive ability, Kirsty, Rachel and the fairies are convinced it’s magic.
- In this AU Rachel and Kirsty are dating and have been in a healthy long distance relationship for at least a year. Phoenix and Edgeworth are also a couple in this canon. Both couples also really like Apollo and Klavier together and will occasionally play wingman to help them get closer.
- Kay is a fairy in this AU but she isn’t considered a Justice Fairy, she just spends a lot of time with them. Mostly Edgeworth, Gumshoe, and Ema.
- She’s struggling with her talent as she’s a really good thief but Oberon and Titania disapprove of having a thief fairy. Kay is currently trying to assemble a group of crime fairies in hopes that will finally convince the king and queen. She has no luck so far as only goblins ever show up for auditions and they don’t really meet Kay’s standards.

Graham Kates, Katrina Kaufman, and Stefan Becket at CBS News:
Twelve New Yorkers have been selected to serve as jurors in former President Donald Trump's criminal trial in Manhattan, filling out the panel on the third day of proceedings.
The 12 jurors include seven men and five women, chosen from a pool of dozens of potential jurors who submitted to questioning about their personal lives and political views. The selection process will continue Friday, since six alternate jurors are needed before the trial can move to opening arguments. One alternate had been selected as of Thursday afternoon. "We have our jury," Judge Juan Merchan said after the new jurors swore an oath to decide the case in a "fair and impartial manner." Trump, seated at the defense table, stared at the newly sworn-in members as they exited the courtroom. Merchan said the court is on track to begin opening statements as soon as Monday. Prosecutors will present their case first. Before court ended for the day, Trump's attorney Todd Blanche asked if the defense could find out the names of the first three witnesses prosecutors plan to call to the stand. Joshua Steinglass, a prosecutor in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office, replied that doing so is a courtesy they normally extend, but refused in this case.
"Mr. Trump has been tweeting about the witnesses. We're not telling them who the witnesses are," Steinglass said.  Merchan said he "can't blame them." Blanche seemed mystified, and asked if the defense is not going to find out who the witnesses are until they walk in the door. He offered to "commit to the court and the [prosecution] that President Trump will not [post] about any witness" on Truth Social, Trump's social media platform. "I don't think you can make that representation," Merchan said. Blanche offered another solution: giving the witness names only to the lawyers, who wouldn't share them with Trump.
[...] Trump pleaded not guilty when he was indicted more than a year ago on 34 felony counts of falsification of business records. He denies all allegations in the case, which revolves around reimbursements to former attorney Michael Cohen for a "hush money" payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Prosecutors say Trump covered up the reimbursements in order to distance himself from the payment, which days before the 2016 presidential election temporarily bought Daniels' silence about an alleged affair. He has also denied having the affair. Trump has raged against the case, accusing prosecutors of charging him for political reasons. He has also frequently lashed out at the judge on social media, accusing Merchan of bias. "I'm supposed to be in New Hampshire. I'm supposed to be in Georgia. I'm supposed to be in North Carolina. South Carolina," the presumptive Republican nominee for president said in the hallway outside the courtroom. "I'm supposed to be a lot of different places, campaigning. But I've been here all day on a trial that really is a very unfair trial."
All 12 jurors and one alternate juror was seated during the 3rd day of the jury selection process in the Trump falsification of business records trial. 5 more alternate juror spots need filled before opening arguments begin. #TrumpTrial

Tory Lanez's motion for a new trial in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case has been denied.
On Tuesday (May 9), Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David J. Herriford made a final decision in the Tory Lanez prison time saga. Judge Herriford decided Tory Lanez does not have the right to a new trial and the Court will be moving forward with the sentencing process, according to Los Angeles Times journalist James Queally.
Queally shared this afternoon via Twitter, "Tory Lanez motion for a new trial has been denied. We don’t have a sentencing date yet. Attorney Jose Baez and the Lanez team did file a motion disqualify Judge Herriford — I don’t know on what grounds we don’t have copies yet — but Herriford still issued his ruling. That matter will likely be heard outside the county at some point (and that’s also a very high bar.) There will be more in the afternoon: defense wanted to ask Herriford to confirm he’s denying their due process claims (not relevant at present) and a sentencing date could be set."
On Dec. 23, 2022, Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion on July 12, 2020 and convicted of one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner to cause bodily injury. He was initially slated to be sentenced on Jan. 27. However, he was able to get the date pushed back after acquiring a new legal team in an attempt to secure an appeal.
On March 29, Tory officially filed for an appeal of the verdict in court, citing an unfair trial and arguing some evidence should not have been admitted. On April 6, the prosecution in the case submitted a 16-page document countering Tory's attorneys' claims.
"The evidence presented at trial was properly admitted, and the defendant's claims of errors and violations of his constitutional rights are without merit," the statement read in part. "The verdict reached by the jury was based on credible evidence and was supported by the law."
In an update on April 25, the lawyer handling Tory Lanez's appeal, Jose Baez, announced that in the then-coming days, Tory and his team would bring forth new information regarding the DNA evidence that was used against the "Broke In A Minute" artist in the trial. Baez claims the original DNA information presented was "false and misleading" to the members of the jury.
From there, an incarcerated Tory Lanez hit up Instagram with an audio message calling out his prosecutors and accusing them of "manipulating" the original DNA results in the case.
"I’ve been incarcerated for almost half a year over a gun that the D.A.s lied and said I shot," Tory began in the jail recording on April 25. "In 2021, they demanded I take a DNA test. I took that test without no pushback, delay or question. Not only because I knew I never shot the gun. But mainly because I was 100 percent positive that I never even touched this gun. In my trial the verdict of innocent or guilty depended heavily on my DNA results."
He continued: "With the help of L.A. Crime Labs DNA expert Randy Zepeda, D.A. Kathy Ta, and Alex Bott completely manipulated my DNA results, and lied to the world, the media, and most importantly my jury, by stating that my DNA on the gun was inconclusive. That was an absolute lie."
Tory Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison when he is sentenced.
XXL has reached out to Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion's attorneys, and the L.A. County District Attorneys Office for comment.

Infowars host Alex Jones and his company were ordered by a judge Thursday to pay an extra $473 million for promoting false conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook school massacre, bringing the total judgment against him in a lawsuit filed by the victims’ families to a staggering $1.44 billion.
Connecticut Judge Barbara Bellis imposed the punitive damages on the Infowars host and Free Speech Systems. Jones repeatedly told his millions of followers the massacre that killed 20 first graders and six educators was staged by “crisis actors” to enact more gun control.
“The record clearly supports the plaintiffs’ argument that the defendants’ conduct was intentional and malicious, and certain to cause harm by virtue of their infrastructure, ability to spread content, and massive audience including the infowarriors,” the judge wrote in a 45-page ruling.
Christopher Mattei, a lawyer for the Sandy Hook families, said he hopes the award sends a message to conspiracy theorists who profit from lies.
“The Court recognized the ‘intentional, malicious ... and heinous’ conduct of Mr. Jones and his business entities,” Mattei said in a statement.
On his show Thursday, Jones called the award “ridiculous” and a “joke” and said he has little money to pay the damages.
“Well, of course I’m laughing at it,” he said. “It’d be like if you sent me a bill for a billion dollars in the mail. Oh man, we got you. It’s all for psychological effect. It’s all the Wizard of Oz ... when they know full well the bankruptcy going on and all the rest of it, that it’ll show what I’ve got and that’s it, and I have almost nothing.”
Eight victims’ relatives and the FBI agent testified during a monthlong trial about being threatened and harassed for years by people who deny the shooting happened. Strangers showed up at some of their homes and confronted some of them in public. People hurled abusive comments at them on social media and in emails. Some received death and rape threats.
Six jurors ordered Jones to pay $965 million to compensate the 15 plaintiffs for defamation, infliction of emotional distress and violations of Connecticut’s Unfair Trade Practices Act.
Jones, who lives and works in Austin, Texas, has bashed the trial as unfair and an assault on free speech rights. He says he will appeal the verdicts. He also has said he doesn’t have the money to pay such huge verdicts, because he has less than $2 million to his name — which contradicted testimony at a similar trial in Texas. Free Speech Systems, meanwhile, is seeking bankruptcy protection.
Jones said Thursday that he has only a “couple hundred thousand dollars" in his savings account.
Jones’ lawyer, Norm Pattis, wrote in a text message to the The Associated Press, “To paraphrase Karl Marx, the verdict was tragedy, this latest ruling is farce. It makes our work on appeal that much easier.”
Bellis found Jones and Infowars' parent company liable for damages without a trial last year, as a consequence for what she called his repeated failures to turn over many financial documents and other records to the plaintiffs. After the unusual “default” ruling, the jury was tasked only with deciding on the amount of compensatory damages and whether punitive damages were warranted.
Jones says that he turned over thousands of documents and that the default ruling deprived him of his right to present a defense against the lawsuit.
The punitive damages include about $323 million for the plaintiffs’ attorney fees and costs and $150 million for violations of the Unfair Trade Practices Act.
In Connecticut, punitive damages for defamation and infliction of emotional distress are generally limited to plaintiffs’ legal fees. The Sandy Hook plaintiffs’ lawyers are to get one-third of the $965 million in compensatory damages under a retainer agreement.
But there is no cap on punitive damages for violations of the Unfair Trade Practices Act. The plaintiffs had not asked for a specific amount of punitive damages, but under one hypothetical calculation they said such damages could be around $2.75 trillion under the law.
In a similar trial in Texas in August, Jones was ordered to pay nearly $50 million to the parents of another child killed in the Sandy Hook shooting for calling the massacre a hoax. A forensic economist testified during that trial that Jones and Free Speech Systems have a combined net worth as high as $270 million.
Jones hawks nutritional supplements, survival gear and other products on his show, which airs on the Infowars website and dozens of radio stations. Evidence at the Connecticut trial showed his sales spiked around a time he talked about the Sandy Hook shooting, leading the plaintiffs' lawyers to say he was profiting off the tragedy.
In documents recently filed in Free Speech Systems' bankruptcy case in Texas, a budget for the company for Oct. 29 to Nov. 25 estimated product sales would total $2.5 million, while operating expenses would be about $740,oo0. Jones' salary was listed at $20,000 every two weeks.
On Wednesday, Bellis, the Connecticut Judge, ordered Jones to not move any of his assets out of the country, as the families seek to attach his holdings to secure money for the damages. Jones, meanwhile, has asked the Judge to order a new trial or at least reduce the compensatory damages to a "nominal" amount.
A third and final trial over Jones' hoax claims is expected to begin around the end of the year in Texas. As in Connecticut, Jones was found liable for damages without trials in both Texas cases because he failed to turned over many records to the plaintiffs.

«Cardinal Mahony's former flatmate Fr. Carl Sutphin is accused of abusing six boys in the 1960s and 1970s, according to a recent article:
Attorneys for Sutphin argued that it is unfair and unconstitutional for the government to file sex abuse charges after so many years. "It is difficult for anyone to recall what they did at specific times on specific days so long ago," lawyer Kay Duffy said after the hearing in Ventura County Superior Court. "We have charges from 30 years ago. We have a very elderly defendant. It's difficult to prepare a defense."
Well, I can't honestly recall what I was doing this day 30 years ago. But I can be very, very sure there were certain things I didn't do. My favorite specimen of clerical indignation at the outrageous temerity of trick questions is that of Msgr. Frederick Ryan, who was alleged to have abused a 14-year-old boy in the chancery office (Ryan was at the time vice-chancellor of the Boston Archdiocese): "Asked if he had sexually abused Garland, Ryan replied: 'I don't think that's a fair question. Let me find out what this is about.'"
Good point, Fred. They should at least let you have a look at your desk calendar.»
