So, about sharing food...
We all know about luffy and his incredible love for food right? He's not really the type to share his food with another person. If anything, luffy likes to steal food from others. So of course we can't help but to notice when luffy's willing to share some of his food with another person.
And after rereading the manga (pre-TS era) i noticed some differences in the two situations where luffy offers to share his food. And i need to ramble about it!!
Tumblr media
So nami... at that time, she was feeling sad about vivi something (also very clear from her facial expression!). Then luffy said to her "i'll give you some meat if you want, nami!", "only one though". From his words and his expression we can tell that luffy wasn't really that thrilled with the idea of giving his food away, heck he even limited the amount of food he was willing to give... BUT STILL, it was a very wholesome gesture, especially from luffy!! cuz usually he wouldn't give away his food to anyone.
So now let's see another case of luffy wanting to share his food with another person...
Tumblr media
Honestly?? I don't even know what to say, zoro is just being zoro here. He looked pretty annoyed... but that's just the usual zoro! feeling lowkey irritated, skeptical, and just being on guard like always. Nothing out of the ordinary. But luffy? He looked at zoro and he literally said " i will share my lunchbox with you" while smiling and also laughing???
Let's just think about this.
Back then with nami, she clearly looked sad/down... but luffy just wanted to 'give' her one piece of meat, meanwhile it was quite clear that he had more than one piece of meat. But in zoro's case? Luffy just wanted to bribe zoro so that zoro would come with him by offering to 'share' some of his lunch. He didn't even specify about how much of his food he was willing to share with zoro??
Idk maybe im overthinking it but it's just ????
Anyway all im saying is that sharing food is luffy's special secret love language, i don't make the rules

World Economic Journal: Grand Line Edition
Zou Invaded
ZOU, New World | by @/truffyfest
Hundreds injured, a millennium old city destroyed in Beast Pirates’ raid on the Mokomo Dukedom led by Jack the Drought but a few days ago.
This news catches us just as distressed as surprised. After all, how many people can say that they have visited Zou, the phantom island? Not many, we recon.
The island has been shrouded in mystery for many years. Most people don’t even know (or believe) it exists, not to mention being able to go there. And why is that?
As the name suggests, Zou is not actually an island as we understand it, but rather a real, incredibly rare naitamie-norida elephant. Therefore, as a living creature, not only is it impossible to follow a log pose to get there, the ‘island’ doesn’t ever stay in the same place . Some assume the few minks who leave their homeland have a secret connection to the elephant and are able to hear its voice calling them or, and this is the more rational explanation, one can only get back by following a vivre card.
No one knows as the minks are quite protective of their country and hardly, if ever, share any information on it.
That is why the news of an invasion is quite shocking, as it is horrific.
The minks’ culture goes back as far as 1000 years and there are many people living peacefully on the elephant’s back. This raid, this barbaric invasion is a disaster both humanitarian and historical.
But, thankfully, a greater tragedy was averted thanks to none other than our favourite power-couple—excuse us, pirate alliance.
One of the minks who were present during the terrible events, Miss Milky, has shared with us that in a curious twist of fate, the Heart Pirates excluding their captain were already in Zou when the Beast Pirates had landed, and a part of the Straw Hat crew arrived there only a day after Jack and his entourage had left in a hurry.
And of course, a few days after that, the two captains themselves and the rest of their— Straw Hat’s crew arrived.
As of right now, we can confirm that the two lovebirds are still on Zou!
According to our information, the two of them have spent the whole evening (and night) by each other’s side while they enjoyed the celebration organised in the honour of the country’s saviours by one of the rulers of the country (Zou traditionally has two rulers). Straw Hat Luffy regularly went away alone but never for long, always coming back with more food to share with Trafalgar.
Curiously, he always ate the bread first, never leaving any for his ‘ally’. And even more curiously… the ex-Warlord always smiled, obviously unbothered by the food thief.
Is that a sign that the ice is melting? Or is it simply because they thought no one was watching that they threw away the pretences to be with each other exactly the way they wanted?
The most important question—are they already dating, or are they still finding their way to each other?
We will continue to look for more information and keep you updated on these pages. Look forward to some insight from sources very close to the world’s newest (future?) power couple!

WINTER 2022 SPECIAL: ❝#46 with Law.❞
Tumblr media
[ Fandom: One Piece ] [ Characters: Trafalgar D Water Law ]
「#46 ❝It’s almost midnight.❞ with Law.」 Continuation to this
TRAFALGAR D WATER LAW
The warm lights from paper lanterns decorate the dark sky of the town. Law has already given up trying to keep up with your pace and opted to walk at his own pace. But it wasn't long until he lost you. And he was wondering why there were so many people here for the festival. After your first bowl of oden, you got carried away by the tempting smells of other food from various stalls and left him on his own. At some point, he spotted Shachi and Penguin who were wandering around together. Much to Law's dismay, neither of them had seen you.
Before he knew it, Law found himself standing right in the center of the ongoing festival. And in the center of the square was a large tree with lights. It's different from the usual large evergreen tree that people commonly use for Christmas. From its shape and looks, Law assumed it was a local tree or a tree that the town is cultivating in town. The only similarity it shares with your average Christmas tree is the fact that it's decorated with lights and ornaments. For a moment, he stood in silence to admire the bright lights and his surroundings. It was truly a beautiful sight, no wonder you were so eager to explore.
It almost made him forget about being elbowed in the guts and pushed around by the surrounding crowd earlier.
"Oh, here you are! It's really hard not to miss you when you're carrying your sword around." your voice snapped him out of his thoughts and he turns around to see you approaching him with a handful of food.
"Look, Law! They have this thing called 'honey toast', and it's absolutely delicious. Try some!" you practically shoved the food right up on his face before he could even say anything. He seemed to be pretty disgusted at the sight of the sweet treat bread. The bread was hollowed out and filled with bread cubes and topped with fresh fruits and cream. The crispy outer layer yet fluffy inside texture, combined with the sweetness of the toppings is something you'd definitely want to try.
"No. I don't really like bread."
"You don't have to look at it as if it murdered your entire family." you mumbled before offering him some grilled fish instead. He lets you hold onto the stick as he bites into the food you offered him. You eat the last few bits of the fish, humming at the taste and talking about how there were still a lot of stuff you still wanted to try. It wasn't long until you choked on your food, a result of talking and eating at the same time.
"Swallow then talk. Geez, you're like a kid." Law chastised, patting his back so that you stop choking on your food.
You quickly swallow the remaining fish and laughs at your silly mistake while Law reprimands you not to be greedy and take smaller bites. He takes the opportunity to admire your outfit which helps you blend in with the crowd. It's different from the usual outfit you liked to wear around the ship. Your figure is dwarfed by the overly large fluffy jacket you had on, which was paired with a short skirt and boots. He had on many occasions forced you into wearing a boiler suit but you refused because it's stuffy. He gave up on trying to get you into uniform and just let you dress as you pleased.
"Do I have something on my face?" you ask.
"No." he reached to brush the snow off your hair.
You continued to drag your lover through the crowded roads of the festival, buying every single little food that caught your attention. Law seemed to be quite surprised at your limitless pit of a stomach which reminded him of Luffy. It was rare for him to unwind and relax like this. As a former Warlord and Captain, he's always keeping it together for the sake of the crew. He rarely goes around island for the sake of exploring or enjoying himself. No matter where he is, he's always on high alert and avoiding trouble as much as possible.
Eventually, after what felt like hours of wandering around, you decide to take a seat on the bench just around the center. The two of you sat together to share whatever you had bought and you took this opportunity to rest your feet.
"Besides, aren't you satisfied already?" Law asks as you excitedly finish off the remaining food you had purchased from your little expedition. He takes a moment to look at the sky, noting how high the moon is now.
"It's almost midnight." he concludes.
"Midnight!? So it's almost time for the fireworks! Let's go!" you hopped off the bench and grabbed Law's wrist.
"Where the hell are we going? We can see the fireworks from here just fine." he says but made no move to stop you.
"Away from the crowd and up on that hill over there." you point out.
Law sighs and lets you pull him through the crowd of people who were murmuring about the upcoming fireworks. It wasn't long until you managed to drag your lover towards the spot you were talking about earlier. You hastily sat down and patted the empty spot next to you, gesturing at Law to sit down. He set down his sword and sat down, making himself comfortable. The flash of fireworks lit the dark sky, immediately drawing your attention. Law looked over when he was certain you had your attention on the fireworks. A smile came to his lips unconsciously as he watched you.
"Look, Law! That one looked like Bepo, did you see―"
He cuts you off with a kiss and for a moment, you wonder if Law was even paying attention to the fireworks show to begin with. You lost your breath almost instantly as his lips meshed against yours. After a few moments, you both pull back to catch your breath. Your heart began to pound loudly against your ribcage, and you were sure that your face is completely red at this point.
"Were you even watching the fireworks Law?" you asked as he pressed his forehead gently on yours.
"Why should I?" he murmured.
"Especially when you're much more captivating than the fireworks." A soft smile formed on his lips as he place a delicate kiss on your lips, which you helplessly followed.

ᥫ᭡ | one piece men & romance
VOL. 1 ⸻ ❛ worst generation edition ❜
➩ the best words to describe a romantic relationship with LUFFY, ZORO, KID, KILLER, LAW, and X DRAKE.
⤷ contains cliché, lots of love and just a little suggestiveness.
〚 VOL. 2 ⸻ ❛ yonko + legends edition ❜ 〛
Tumblr media
✧ — monkey d luffy
innocence and naturalness. luffy loves you deeply, without backward thinking or judgement. his love is natural, spontaneous, just like him. he will never let you down and will be the right person to brighten up your days. he is cuddly (sometimes too much so, in public) and loves physical contact. he has no problem sharing everything with you (except for his food, of course) and all that could really make him happy is to complete his dream at your side
Tumblr media
✧ — roronoa zoro
complicity and courage. zoro needs complicity in a relationship, he needs to be able to understand you with just an exchange of glances. your relationship, in order to last, requires a lot of courage from both of you. it takes a lot of courage to establish good communication, trust and a good foundation in a couple. but when he's with you, zoro feels that flame he's always had in his heart, grow and turn into a blaze. nothing could make him more courageous than your presence in his life
Tumblr media
✧ — eustass kid
passion and hardness. love in its primal state. there is little love as devastating and powerful as kid's love. he doesn't love lightly, gently and tenderly. he loves passionately, deeply and unfortunately painfully. he doesn't realise the consequences of his actions on you or the depth of his feelings for you. and this can cause a lot of pain and sorrow. he cares for you as if you were the apple of his eye, but he rarely shows it and doesn't care about communication and that sort of thing
Tumblr media
✧ — killer
trust and communication. to start any relationship with this man, he will have to trust you a little, and even more to reveal his face and his weaknesses. when he does, it means that he sincerely thinks that you will be part of his life for a long time. killer is good at communication, at understanding what others feel, and this helps him for your relationship. he will always take seriously what you want to tell him and will pay special attention to your expressions. He is a private man, so never hesitate to show him all the love you have for him, as long as it is just the two of you.
Tumblr media
✧ — trafalgar law
freedom and patience. it takes a long time for law to accept you in his life. he is, at first, rather selfish, thinking only about his own crew and his own goal. he does it only for his own emotional security. but when you take more space in his life, law becomes more accessible, even if it takes a lot of time and patience for you to understand that law needs freedom, that it is his way to be at peace. so, as long as you're not too clingy, or invasive, he will accept you by his side, and in exchange, he'll always be there for you. law is usually good at analyzing others, and that's pretty useful when he needs to talk to someone who has his heart. because yes, law steals other people's hearts, but the only person who can take his is you.
Tumblr media
✧ — x drake
longevity and stability. being in a romantic relationship with drake is going to be a lot of fun. this man is very quick to be annoyed and distracted by your presence. you make him blush with a simple smile, with simple words, so let's not talk about the times he sees and touches your soft skin in more intimate moments. drake is a simple man, and is not looking to create problems or put his relationship in danger by behaving badly with you. he is looking to keep you away from his turbulent life, so that you are not put in danger by his fault. all he wants, when his mission is over, is to be able to live a more honest life, one that he can complete by your side.

Hello, I just saw the alphabet requests. Could I please get the fluff alphabet with Luffy? Thank you sm!
Fluff Alphabet - Monkey D. Luffy
Tumblr media
a/n: hi hi hi! thank you for requesting! I hope you enjoy 💗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A-Activities (what do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?)
Luffy is a complete child at heart. He enjoys doing anything and everything! So long as you are there with him, he doesn’t particularly care what it is you are doing – if it’s with you he knows he’ll have the time of his life.
However, if Luffy were to pick something as his favourite activity to do with you, he would choose a water fight (weird considering his vulnerability to water but that doesn’t cross his mind in the moment). Chasing one another around, stomachs aching from laughter, cheeks sore from grinning too much. He’s never had so much fun, and he can’t tell if it’s because of the activity itself, or because it’s with you (ultimately, he decides that it’s both).
B-Beauty (what do they admire about their s/o? what do they think is beautiful about them?)
One of the things Luffy admires most about you is your unquenchable thirst for adventure; it’s own that rivals his own. You want to explore, live life freely and on your own terms. In Luffys eyes there is nothing more wonderful than that.
Honestly, Luffy thinks everything about you is beautiful. Every. Single. Thing. Right from the top of your head to the very tips of your toes. But, there is something about your laugh that he just finds so unbelievably intoxicating. When he hears you laugh - so carefree and so happy - his grin grows even wider. He wants nothing more than to hear that laugh for the rest of his life.
C-Comfort (how would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?)
This captain is a lot more emotionally intelligent that people think. He’s very in tune to what people like and dislike and he uses this knowledge to help comfort people. For example, on thriller bark after they find Zoro injured luffy attempts to give him a whole ass barrel of sake because “Zoro likes sake so it’ll make him feel better.” This same logic would apply when he’s trying to comfort you. He’ll find or do something you like because well it’ll make you happy. If food makes you happy, he’ll get you some food. If cuddles make you happy, well then you best be ready to be suffocated.
Another way I can see Luffy comforting you is by trying to make you laugh and smile. When people are laughing and smiling, they’re happy, right? So, by that logic all he’s gotta do is be goofy and then you’ll laugh like you usually do!
D-Dreams (how do they picture they future with their s/o?)
When he becomes the pirate king, you are right there with him. He can’t see himself settling down (by this I mean living in one place permanently). Luffy wants to travel the seas with you forever, going on adventure after adventure after adventure. He hasn’t really thought much about kids or anything like that, but all he has thought about is you and him growing old together.
E-Equal (are they the dominant one in the relationship or rather passive?)
Luffy is definitely not the passive one in the relationship, but I also wouldn’t say he’s the dominant one. He’s dependent on you and you’re dependent on him. It’s a relatively equally balanced relationship but it could even be argued that it’s only that way because of how Luffy is. He often just does what he wants when he wants regardless of your opinion. However, he also allows you to do the same. That’s not to say he doesn’t sit back and listen to your concerns if you voice them.
F-Fight (would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?)
Fights are a very rare occurrence in your relationship. Luffy isn’t one to maintain an argument for very long often cracking a joke or doing something silly causing you to laugh and break the tension.
On the very rare occasion that you are having a serious fight, Luffy can be extremely stubborn. Once he’s got something in his mind, its hard to make him think otherwise, so more often than not you will have to be the one to apologize if you want to move on from this.
G-Gratitude (how grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?)
Luffy is very aware of everything that you do for him, and he absolutely gushes about it to everyone he comes into contact with. He can’t stop talking about you. People who have never met you before suddenly seem to know about every single time you gave up a portion of your dinner to Luffy because he was still hungry but Sanji wouldn’t let him have anymore because dinner was over.
H-Honesty (do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?)
Luffy is an open book. He cannot keep a secret to save himself. Not even a good secret like a surprise party for you or something, in fact, the crew have to be the ones to plan surprise parties for you on luffys behalf cos he gets too excited and just blurts it out straight away. Basically, if there is something he isn’t telling you the only explanation is that he genuinely forgot. But as soon as you ask him, he’ll tell you - without hesitation.
I-Inspiration (did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?)
Being with Luffy has helped you to be a little more carefree. He has taught you to embrace your youth. What’s the rush in growing up? Why does everything need to be so serious all the time? It’s okay to loosen up, and goof around as long as you are still dependable.
J-Jealousy (do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?)
Luffy does get jealous. But, not in the usual sense. He doesn’t get jealous of other people interacting with you, or with you interacting with other people. He trusts you fully, so there’s no reason for him to be jealous in that front. However, what he does get jealous about is you spending time with others, without him. Luffy gets serious FOMO, so if you’re doing anything and he’s not invited, that is when he gets jealous. This sweetie just wants likes to be included! On the off chance that you are doing something without him and Luffy starts to feel jealous, he will simply insert himself into the conversation or the activity. He does NOT care (LMAO).
K-Kisses (are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?)
Luffy is a very energetic kisser. There’s no real rhyme or reason to his movements he just smashes his lips against yours. He’s eager and enthusiastic, which can make him a bit sloppy at times, but he doesn’t care.
Your first kiss took you completely by surprise. The two of you were just hanging out then before you knew it, he had kissed you. It happened so quickly they you barely had time to process what happened, but he was just sitting there looking at you while giggling his little heart out.
L-Love confession (how would they confess to their s/o?)
When it comes to telling you how he feels, he approaches it as he does everything else; directly. He’s never been one to beat around the bush, rather always speaking his mind and being up front. With you it’s no different. The second he realizes how he feels about you, he’s on his way to tell you. No hesitation, no doubt, just 100% honesty. It doesn’t matter where you are or who might be around, Luffy will tell you in that very moment.
M-Marriage (do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?)
Marriage isn’t something Luffy has really thought about. The two of you are together constantly, you know you love each other, so why would you need to get married? It’s not that he’s against getting married, it just isn’t something he’s particularly concerned about. Well… that is until he hears the words ‘wedding’ and ‘party’. Once he’s heard that Luffy is set on getting married right then and there (that’s basically his proposal too). Any excuse for a party.
N-Nicknames (what do they call their s/o?)
To be honest, Luffy mostly just uses your name. He likes it because it belongs to you which makes it special. He does like to find out what nicknames you had as a child, he thinks those a pretty fun and makes him feel as though he’s known you for your whole life, so he does also use your childhood nickname/s.
O-On cloud nine (what are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?)
Luffy gets even more clingy. Clingy may not be the right word, but it’s the best way to describe it. When he’s in love he feels an overwhelming urge to be near you all the time. He craves your presence and your attention so is constantly asking you to play or chat or anything! He really just wants to spend time with you, more so than usual. The whole crew actually picked up on it quite instantly because they noticed the lack of Luffy in their day-to-day schedule. They knew it was more than platonic relationships Luffy had for you when he was five minutes late for lunch because he was too overjoyed by your attention.
P-PDA (are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?)
He’s all about showing affection both platonically and romantically. He catches you (and others) so off guard because one moment its silent and the next thing you know you’re hearing “gomu-gomu no…” and being tackled to the ground by a pair of rubbery arms. If Luffy wants to kiss you, he’s going to kiss you. He doesn’t have a care in the world about who may see.
Q-Quirk (some random ability they have that is beneficial in a relationship?)
Can promise you a life full of excitement. You never need to worry about your relationship getting ‘boring’ or ‘being stuck in a rut’ because that will never happen with Luffy. Each day is filled with adventure and something new to experience. There’s a whole world out there that you can experience together.
R-Romance (how romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?)
Many people wouldn’t expect it, but he is indeed romantic. It’s far from cliché and strays from the typical notions of ‘romance’ but it’s romantic, nonetheless. Luffy is just unapologetically himself. Because of this anything he does for you (even the littlest of actions), you know it’s sincere and comes from the heart. That is what makes Luffy romantic.
S-Support (are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? do they believe in them?)
Not supporting you in your goals and dreams goes entirely against Luffys character. He truly believes you, and anyone else for that matter, can do whatever they put their minds to. He is your number 1 supporter, actively helping you every step of the way. No one believes in you more than Luffy.
T-Thrill (do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship or do they prefer certain routine?)
When you’re with Luffy you don’t need to worry about spicing up your relationship. You will never once experience a boring day. The relationship is constantly filled with new places to go, and new things to see, and you’re fortunate enough to be able to do all of it together.
U-Understanding (how good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?)
Contrary to popular belief, Luffy is very emotionally intelligent (I said this earlier actually). He can read people freakishly well, and his s/o is no different. In fact when it comes to you his emotional intelligence only multiplies.
V-Value (how important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?)
As with most of the other relationships (platonic and familial) in his life your relationship is very important to him. For Nico Robin, he declared war on the world government. For Sanji, he went up against a Yonko and her crew. You would be no different. He would go to the ends of the earth (maybe further) for you. It’s just how he is. His relationships and his dream to be pirate king are not mutually exclusive, meaning, he can’t have one without the other.
W-Wild card (a random fluff headcanon?)
Brings you random little knick-knacks, or like a little memento from EVERY SINGLE island you go to. The items range from a pretty shell he saw on the beach to a funky looking figurine he spotted in a market.
X-XOXO (Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?)
Luffy loves to kiss and cuddle. He’s an extremely affectionate person. He practically clings to you like a koala bear. That physical contact is something he enjoys a lot; it’s really reassuring for him.
Y-Yearning (how will they cope when they are missing their partner?)
As long as Luffy is distracted and kept busy, he’ll be able to cope. He entertains himself and slowly counts down the days until he can see you. He builds up the excitement and he becomes like a child the night before a school unable to sleep or keep still; he just wants to see you.
Z-Zeal (are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind?)
This has been established already. All relationships (platonic, romantic, familial) hold a special place in Luffys life. He declared war on the world government, fought countless fearsome opponents all for the sake his friends (sometimes even people he just met). Your relationship with Luffy would be no different at all. In fact, for you, he would do all of that and much much more.

Pale Fire: Strange Habits
Pairng: Ace x Reader
Series: Modern au of the life of Ace and the reader.
Scenario: Over the last several weeks Ace has been huddling up in your room. It doesn’t help that your feelings for him have been solidified for a while now.
wc: 2.6k
warning: non just fluff and unsure feelings
a/n: It is here! The first part of this series I talked about a few weeks ago. Here a little bit about it if you missed x . This is not in order of events the story all comes together in different peeks into their lives
Tumblr media
After another exhausting day at work and checking up on some assignments, you were ready for bed. Your usual bed stealer was already tucked into the cozy corner near the wall. His soft snores were your only indications that he was asleep. How you had ended up in this arrangement, you weren't sure anymore. Though it didn't bother you as the man was a walking heater. So in the dead of winter, you could care less as he kept you extremely warm.
Yawning, you close your laptop and move from your desk, and head towards the bed. Running a hand through your hair, you sit down on the edge of the bed. Leaning forward, you click off the desk lamp until the room is dark.
Crawling under the covers, you sighed happily at the warm feeling surrounding you; it was comforting. Shifting onto your side, you faced the wall where Ace was soundly still asleep.
You could easily make out his figure due to the street lights coming in from outside, making the room visible. He was laying on his stomach, hugging the pillow to his chest as his bareback was exposed to you.
You had known for a while that you had feelings for him, but you were too afraid to say anything to him. Perona had been on you lately about it, especially since Ace had been spending more time sleeping in your bed than his own in the last few weeks.
Why exactly, you weren't sure, but it didn't bother you much. He did love to be around you a lot, and you learned early on that he stripped in his sleep. It was a bit embarrassing at first, but you came to expect it throughout your friendship. Tonight was one of those rare times where he had kept his boxers on.
You smiled fondly at the memories as you continue to stare at the rise and fall of his back. Your eyes shifted downwards to the ink that littered his backside. What once was a skull and crossbones was now half a tattoo and a large amount of scarring. While you knew the story behind it as it happened before you even met the man. The sight of it made you emotional for some reason; Ace didn't like talking about it very much. Not that you blamed him, it was a horrific accident that left him very badly hurt with side effects even today.
The loud snore broke through the silence, making you freeze at the noise. You snorted as Ace's breathing went back to normal as he shifted slightly towards you.
Feeling content, you finally snuggled down into the covers and closed your eyes. Sleep finally overtook you as the day's events caught up with you finally.
Hot.
It was overwhelming and itchy, as if your whole body was on fire and unable to get away from it. Your mind raced as the intensity continued until something hard punctured it making it burst open. Your eyes fly open in a rush as you sit up with a start. Heart racing, you placed a hand on your heated skin to only cringe at the slick wetness that came off of you. Looking down, you noticed your body and T-shirt are soaked with your sweat. Still trying to catch your breath, you stare off into the still dark room.
You couldn't have been asleep for long, but what was that strange feeling you had never felt before. Your eyes finally adjusted again as you turn your head towards Ace. Who had somehow rolled over in his sleep and was now wrapped tightly around your body.
Well, that explains that issue. You supposed the man was still sound asleep as his arms tightened on your waist. The heat that radiated off of him was a lot. His leg was hooked over your thigh as he snored softly into your pillow.
"You are such a pain, Portgas, you know that?" You mumbled as you tried your best to settle back into the sheets ignoring the damp clothing you wore with the older man clinging to you like a monkey.
He didn't reply, but you took his snoring as a sign that he could care less. Closing your eyes again, you drift back off, not to be disturbed too.
...
The following morning was a noisy one but having lived in the house for almost over a year now, you grow used to it. Rolling over in your still half-asleep state, your eyes blur, not fully awake as you stare at the wall. The fuck how did you end up on the opposite side of the bed this time. Rolling back over, you noticed that your usual bed companion was nowhere to be seen.
Weird.
He must have gotten up already, which was odd for him. Ace usually slept in late on Sunday, but it seems today was a rare occasion when he didn't. Grabbing for your phone, the screen lights up to show it is a little past noon.
A little later than your own wake-up time but the little extra sleep was nice. Pushing the covers off yourself and getting out of the bed heading to the bathroom. After relieving yourself, you head down the stairs and into the chaos. The excited chatter of Luffy and Perona could be heard as you enter the kitchen. They don't pay you any mind as Luffy excitedly leans over the kitchen island and watches your best friend cook away.
The sight was very comical as Perona tried to push Luffy away, who was happily drooling at the presence of the sizzling meat. Giggling, you open up the fridge and grab for the jug of orange juice; shaking the container, you close the fridge behind you.
"Oh, (name) finally up, I see," Perona said, looking over at you.
Smiling at her, you open up the cabinet next to you and grab for a cup. "Yeah, guess I needed the extra sleep." You replied, turning back to them and pouring your drink.
"Well, I'm glad you came down when you did because I could use your help with cooking. No one else is around yet, so I decided to make a big brunch for everyone." She said as she cracked a few more eggs into another pan.
"You are so awesome, Perona!" Luffy said as he sat on the counter with a smile on his face.
You smiled at the sight even though this situation was a relatively regular one in your home. It always warms your heart because growing up, your luck with long-lasting friendships wasn't the greatest. So living here with some fantastic people made you emotional at times.
"So I see Ace slept in your room again last night." You froze at your friend's words as she peeked over at you from behind Luffy.
A guiltily blush crept its way up to your face. You looked away from her and stared into the living room. "Ugh yeah, he did; it's no big deal, just used to it." You mumbled.
"I see," she said slyly, making your face burn hotter with embarrassment.
"That's pretty normal for Ace. I think he's always clung to people that make him comfortable. He did a lot of that when we were kids and later with Deuce and Marco. Though for a while, he didn't think after his last relationship, which ended pretty badly, especially after the accident." He trailed off for a moment. "With you, for some reason, he started doing it again, but I'm glad we were all worried about him." Luffy grinned at you.
You were stunned. Ace had never mentioned anything before, not that you should be surprised. Despite his easy-going and friendly persona, Ace was relatively private on some matters of his life. Which never bothered you because you knew with time if it was necessary, he would tell you eventually.
"I wasn't aware, but I'm glad he feels so comfortable with me. I feel the same about him. He makes me feel secure, I suppose, is the right word."
Luffy looked at you thoughtfully and looked away, but you caught a hint of a smile anyway.
"Speaking of Ace, where is he? He wasn't in bed when I got up."
"Oh, he went for a morning run with Sabo. Well, I guess more of a late morning run. They should be back soon, though. Better start this before I have to listen to them whine about food again." Perona rolled her eyes, making you laugh at the image.
It was a ubiquitous experience in the shared home of the three brothers with bottomless pits. It was a good thing that Ace and Sabo had such good-paying jobs that they could have tons of extra food. Grabbing an apron from the hanger, you tied it around your waist and held for a mixing bowl, and started cracking eggs.
Both You and Perona moved in sync around the kitchen while dodging Luffy's grabby hands. The time passed quickly as you both finished making the feast just as the front door opened. The loud chatter of both older men caught your attention as you platted another stack of pancakes.
Looking over at your pink-haired friend you both shared the same thought as you both stepped away from the food. Just as both Sabo and Ace came stumbling in at the sight of the food. Just like wild beasts, all three brothers are divided in for their shares. You shook your head at their antics as a tap at your shoulder had you turning around.
Holding up a plate of food, Perona smiled at you as she headed it over. A smile spread across your face at her offering; grabbing it, you happily started to eat it.
"Thank, Rona yove the beth." You yell even though she barely heard you with your face stuffed and all.
She rolled her eyes at your display but smiled anyway. A sudden presence had you looking up at an arm circled your shoulders, pulling you into someone's chest. You gasped at the action but quickly recoiled at the smell and tried to tear away, but the grip was tight.
"(Name)!!" Ace mumbled as he swallowed his food.
"Acccce!" You whined as he held you closer to his sweat-soaked chest.
"(Name)!!!" He responded back teasingly.
You pouted as he snickered and kissed your cheek affectionately, making your cheeks burn in embarrassment.
"Ok, lovebirds, take it somewhere else; we're trying to eat here," Sabo said as he gestured to the other three in the room, a grin playing at his lips.
You groaned and pushed Ace off of you as you grabbed your plate and joined the others at the table. Ace just laughed and followed you as he sat across from you. As you started eating again, Sabo spoke between mouthfuls of food and told a story.
You didn't hear half of it, but it was something about running into Zoro on their run from what you gathered. From the way Luffy was in hysterics, you knew the man had probably gotten lost again. It made you laugh at the image of him getting frustrated as he ran back and forth through the local town. Most people knew who he was as this was a constant habit, so that alone was funny enough.
After you were done eating, you helped to shove the boys out of the kitchen so you could clean.
"Go shower. You all smell!" You finally said, making them groan and protest.
You glared at them all, making the three boys shut up and stare at you before quickly saying sorry and scrambling up the stairs. The sight of them trampling over one another was entertaining and made you smile as you headed back into the kitchen.
You heaved a heavy sigh as you flopped down onto your bed; after finishing the kitchen, you had returned to your room. Knowing you would be waiting for the shower for a while, you decided to lay down. Rolling over, the three large windows greet you. They were currently blocking out the light making the room darker than it would usually be.
Lately, you weren't sure of anything between school, your job, and being an adult, in general, was enough to make you restless. Though the constant unsolved resolve in your mind was this deal with Ace. You cared for him so much, but the thought of destroying your close friendship is what stopped you from pushing further.
Turning on your stomach, you hugged the nearest pillow to your chest, which you realized had been the pillow Ace slept on. Closing your eyes, you bury your face into the soft fabric. The smell of smoke and cologne came off of it. It was all Ace, and it was soothing to have the familiar scent lulling you into euphoria. Between the warmth coming from the heater and the pillow you hugged, you dozed off pretty quickly.
The dipping of the bed alerted you from your half-asleep state as someone sat down beside you. You blinked your eye open more, making your whine softly. Rolling over, you are given the sight of Ace sitting hunched over on your bed as he pulled his blue sweatshirt off his head. Leaving him in a yellow shirt. He tossed it onto the floor, which made you roll your eyes at his carelessness.
Ace ran a hand through his still-damp hair and casually scooted himself back on the bed as he laid down next to you. He laid on the opposite side to you, so he was facing you upside down, his back to the wall this time.
"Hi," he said, smiling at you softly.
"Hello, intruder," you mumble, your face still buried in the pillow you were now hugging to your chest.
He laughed. "Sorry, didn't mean to disturb you," he says with not a hint of remorse in his words.
You snorted.
"Right, because you are sorry every other time."
He shrugged his shoulders, continuing to smile at you, but this time his eyes had this gentle look in them you hadn't seen before. The look alone made you avert your gaze as your cheeks heated. You tried to not think of what that could mean exactly. The last few weeks had really been weird with him in general. The clinging, bed-sharing, soft looks, and just no boundaries at all at this point, which you were used to anyway, especially with Luffy, but this was different.
"Hey…..Ace, can I ask you something?"
You looked at him again; his brown eyes bore into yours.
"Sure, what is it?"
Closing your eyes, your grip on the pillow tightened, taking a deep breath, and you looked at him again. His lips pulled into a frown.
"It's nothing. Just wanted to know if you would take a nap with me?"
A huge grin split across his face at the gesture, and he happily sat up and grabbed you around the waist.
"Always (Name)!" He wrapped the blankets around you both and swaddled you into his chest. A giggle left you as you situated yourself in his grasp until you were comfortable. A sweet silence befalls you both as you settle into each other's warmth. After a while, you knew he was asleep from his soft snores near your ear.
You weren't sure when you would finally confine him about your feelings. For now, you were content with this strange arrangement you both had and were happy to continue it for a little while longer.

Quick summary: Sanji is cold and Zoro is so very warm. Takes place before these idiots are officially together.
Note: I think this was inspired by a headcanon I saw once that Sanji doesn’t do well with the cold. I have known people who put on hoodies in hot weather, and given that we see him wandering around in a full suit, rarely ever taking off his jacket, I’m inclined to adopt that headcanon.
And here’s a tag for @optigeress for being one of my biggest supporters 💖
-
It was cold. Other crew members–Chopper, Luffy, Zoro–might tell him that he was making a big deal out of a slight chill, but Sanji was cold and he was eagerly waiting for the weather to change. And given that this was the Grand Line, that could be in a matter of hours or days, so Sanji had to make do with what he had. It was easy to warm up when he had the stove or the oven running, but he couldn’t keep those appliances running all day, which was frankly a pain in the ass, and it left him suffering in silence.
So Sanji sequestered himself in the kitchen, where it was warmer than it was outside, even without the oven on. He kept himself preoccupied with food prep, getting a headstart on today and tomorrow’s meals. He was making good time on lunch by the time Zoro wandered into the kitchen.
“Go away, Marimo,” Sanji muttered, keeping his attention on the vegetables he was dicing. “You can wait until lunch.”
“I’m not here for food, Cook.”
Sanji glanced at Zoro, who’d headed straight for the wine and beer rack. Naturally. He clicked his tongue. “It’s not even afternoon yet.”
“What even is time?” Zoro replied, studying the label on the bottle in his hand, as if he had any semblance of standards. “Shouldn’t matter when I get drunk.”
“Flawless argument from you, as always,” Sanji said brightly before a chill passed through him, causing his frame to spasm involuntarily.
Zoro quirked an eyebrow at him. “You really can’t handle the cold, can you?” he asked, calling back the exchange they’d shared earlier in the morning. Sanji had rubbed at his arms and complained about the temperature, and Zoro had stared at him incredulously, asking him how he could possibly be cold. Sanji explained that he hated weather that was even remotely cold, but Zoro remained unsympathetic.
Like he was right now. Sanji sent him a dirty look. His hands were cold and he wanted to blow warm air on them, but he refused to give the green haired bastard the satisfaction. “Not all of us think skinny dipping in frigid waters sounds like a good time,” he snarled.
“I wasn’t completely naked.”
Sanji snorted. He felt his face heat up as he glared at Zoro and he desperately hoped it wasn’t turning red. He’d brought it up to try to embarrass Zoro and it had backfired spectacularly because now he was fixated on a naked Zoro.
Zoro turned back to the alcohol rack, putting up the bottle he’d grabbed and searching for something else. “And that was training,” he continued. “Not because I like to go swimming in the nude.”
Sanji watched Zoro as he picked up bottles of booze and studied them, unable to find whatever it was that he wanted, which Sanji found strange. Zoro only needed to grab a bottle–or two or even three–to be satisfied, so why did he linger? It was almost like he was stalling.
Sanji continued to watch him, setting his knife down on the cutting board, watching Zoro’s torso bend and stretch as he reached for and grabbed the contents of Merry’s alcohol supply. Sanji put one of his hands up to his neck, hoping his pulse might help warm it up. It didn’t.
“Not completely naked, huh?” Sanji asked, eyes traveling from the broad points of Zoro’s shoulders to the narrower point of his waist. So much more room to cover than a neck...
“I had pants on, pervert cook,” Zoro shot back, looking over his shoulder to glare at him. Sanji wasn’t sure if Zoro had caught where he was staring–not that he was being subtle–but if he had, he said nothing, his expression instantly losing its hard edge. He turned his attention back to the rack, his movements stiffer.
Sanji swallowed. He cautiously moved forward, crossing the kitchen until he stood behind Zoro, close enough for him to reach out and touch him. And he did, placing his palm directly on the center of Zoro’s back. Zoro tensed momentarily, then relaxed, setting his hands down on a shelf. Sanji stared at Zoro, transfixed, as he observed the muscles on Zoro’s back moving. “Is–is this all right?” he asked, softly. Zoro was so warm. He wanted more.
“Go crazy,” Zoro murmured, voice devoid of the usual bite it had whenever they were around each other.
Sanji placed his other hand on Zoro’s back and brought both down, running his palms against the smooth fabric of the white cotton. Just like the rest of him, Zoro’s back was hard and firm. Sanji stared at the solid wall of muscle that was Zoro’s back. He’d spent so much time watching it, making sure no enemy came close enough to touch it, and now here he was, allowed full access. It was a strange feeling and he wanted more, wanted to slip his hands past the obstacle that was Zoro’s shirt and run his fingertips against the hot flesh that lay underneath.
Glancing tentatively at Zoro, he circled his hands around Zoro’s waist, slipping his fingertips into the confines of the green haramaki. He stared at Zoro for a sign, but when the swordsman didn’t respond, Sanji started to pull his hands back, feeling his face and neck heating up as he realized he’d probably pushed too far.
“I didn’t say you had to stop.”
Sanji blinked. “Can I–” He stopped himself. “Do you want me to keep going?”
Zoro finally turned his head and looked at Sanji, staring at him like he was an idiot. “Do you think I’d just stand by and let you touch me if I didn’t want it, dumbass?”
Sanji bristled. “I’m trying to be considerate, asshole!”
Zoro opened his mouth to respond, paused, and then closed it. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “Yeah, I guess you are.”
Grumbling under his breath, Sanji gripped the edges of Zoro’s haramaki and started to tug at it impatiently until it came loose. Zoro helped him pull it off, tossing it aside so Sanji had better access. Wasting no time, Sanji shoved his hands up the back of Zoro’s shirt, sliding his palms up Zoro’s torso until they came to a stop midway. Zoro recoiled at the feeling of Sanji’s hands on his skin. “Shit, Cook! Your hands are cold!”
“And your back is warm,” Sanji replied, a content sigh escaping him. Sanji stepped closer, circling his arms around Zoro’s middle, resting his head on Zoro’s back.
“Cook...”
“Shut up,” Sanji mumbled, closing his eyes. He found himself wishing that he didn’t have several layers of clothing separating the skin of his arms from Zoro’s chest, but not everything could be perfect. “Don’t ruin it.”
Zoro chuckled softly. “I hope you don’t think this means that I’m gonna let you feel me up every time the weather gets a little chilly.”
As Zoro spoke, Sanji had begun to idly stroke his abdomen. Zoro responded by flexing his abdominal muscles, causing Sanji to smirk. Feeling emboldened, he said, “Okay, so...”
“Cook.”
“Hear me out,” Sanji pressed on.
Zoro hesitated. “I’m listening.”
“W-what if I’m not doing this just because you’re a convenient human space heater?”
“Asshole.”
Sanji chuckled, resting his forehead against Zoro’s back. “Seriously, though,” he continued. “This is...nice. And I’m not just saying that because your body’s so warm that it’s taking all of my self-control to not stick my head up your shirt.”
Zoro laughed. He turned around slowly, giving Sanji time to adjust. They stared into each other’s eyes, their breathing in sync. Sanji wanted to lay his ear against Zoro’s chest, listen to his heartbeat. Zoro brushed Sanji’s bangs out of his face, pinning them to the side as he cupped his cheek. “You’re hopeless,” he murmured.
“Yeah, well, then what does that make you?” Sanji teased. “You’re the one flexing your abs for me while saying I have ulterior motives.”
Zoro chuckled. “You got me there.”
Sanji started to pull away, pulling his arms out of Zoro’s shirt. “Okay, I’m feeling pretty warm now. I’ll let you get back to it.”
Zoro grabbed hold of Sanji’s chin. “You said it felt nice, huh?” he asked, staring down at Sanji’s lips.
A small smile broke out on Sanji’s face. “Yeah,” he said softly, wrapping his arms back around Zoro. Zoro let go of his chin and began to lean in closer, and Sanji did too, caught in Zoro’s gravitational pull. “You feel good in my arms, Marimo,” he murmured before their lips finally brushed against each other.
It was gentle and kind of sweet, kissing Zoro. It wasn’t angry or desperate like Sanji had fantasized it to be when he’d looked over at Zoro on the battlefield and watched him attack the enemy in an show of raw, animalistic power. How many times had Sanji looked at Zoro when he was fighting or training and had pictured him swaggering up to him at the end of it, pulling him by the tie, and taking what he wanted?
But he didn’t need that in this moment. Right now, it was all Sanji could ask for. Let the rest of it come later, he thought to himself as he smiled against Zoro’s mouth as their kiss reached its end and they both began to pull away.
“I know what’ll warm you up,” Zoro said, readjusting his shirt and reaching for his haramaki.
“Oh?” Sanji asked, shooting a quick glance at the alcohol rack and wondering just how sturdy it was.
Zoro looked back at him and held up a bottle to the light, shaking it enticingly.
Sanji started laughing, running his fingers through his hair.
“What’s so funny?”
“N-nothing,” Sanji said, shaking his head. “I, uh... I’m not saying no; I’m saying not now.”
Zoro stared at Sanji inquisitively.
Sanji adjusted his tie on his neck, giving his hands something to do. “S-some of us have responsibilities on this ship, Marimo,” he said, walking back across the kitchen to wash his hands in the sink. “Can you wait until after dinner?”
Sanji heard footsteps approach him from behind. A strong arm wrapped around his neck, giving him a small squeeze as lips brushed against his heated skin. Sanji whimpered.
“Sure,” Zoro whispered close to his ear. He pulled away, taking the bottle with him. “See you then, Cook.”
Sanji nodded, though he was sure Zoro wasn’t looking. He stared at the counter in front of him in a daze for a few moments until cautiously looking around to see if he was alone. With the coast clear, Sanji wheezed and gripped the edges of the counter. He laughed softly, shaking his head in disbelief. When he got a hold of himself, Sanji returned to dicing vegetables, his thoughts returning to the muscles of Zoro’s back. Dinner suddenly felt so far away.

Can you do a scenario for Law marrying his lover. But the world government wants her only dead, because of her demonic powers. Laws lover told him that she pregnant, but someone told the Marines/world government that Law is married to the girl they want dead and she also pregnant with his child. How would Law/crew/straw hats react to the news, also the marine/world government.
(This became a scenario/HC hybrid, so I hope that’s okay!)
Tumblr media
“…I’m pregnant.”
Law’s eyes widened slightly as he stared at his lover. He wasn’t expecting her to say that first thing in the morning. “Are you…are you sure? Your period could just be late,” he replied.
____ shook her head. “I can sense it,” she said, placing a hand on her stomach underneath the covers of their shared bed. “There’s another presence here. Something that shares my blood, and yours.” She smiled gently at him, and the tips of her fangs peeked through her lips. “Ours.”
Law’s eyes drifted down to her stomach, and a dizzying array of emotions swirled through his head. He was excited, ecstatic even; he was going to be a father. Despite how happy he felt, he knew that his child’s life wouldn’t be easy. Law was constantly targeted by the World Government and after the events of Dressrosa, Kaido also had his eyes on the Surgeon of Death. ____ was also a target of the World Government, only wanted dead because of her demonic powers. If their child had any trace of her abilities, it would just be another reason to want them dead. How can the two of them take care of a child in a situation like that?
____ placed one of her hands on Law’s. “I know it’s a lot to take in,” she said softly. “I just felt it when I was sleeping, and to be honest, I’m still not sure how to feel.” Her hand squeezed Law’s, and he felt her fingernails graze the skin on his fingers.
Her touch snapped him back to reality a little bit, and he absentmindedly squeezed her hand back. He blinked once and slowly removed his hand to wrap his arms around her, cradling the back of her head with his palm. “I…” He didn’t know what to say. It was rare for him to be speechless, but there were so many things he wanted to say and do at the same time. He wanted to kiss ____, hold her in his arms, and never let her go. He wanted to run through the Polar Tang and shout that he’s going to be a father. He wanted to abandon his quest for the One Piece to give his family a quiet life free of danger. He wanted to find the One Piece and use his freedom as the Pirate King to provide everything his family needed. He wanted to make a plan. He wanted to do something impulsive and spontaneous, without regard for the consequences.
“Will you marry me?”
____ looked up at Law. “What?”
“I love you,” Law said. He caressed the back of her head as he held her. “You’re the mother of my child. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Not just as lovers, not just as parents, but something more.”
____ was taken aback by his proposal. She loved Law more than anything in the world, but…she was the Demon Queen; holy matrimony wasn’t exactly something that people seek out with a demonic being, a monster like her. She smiled at Law and cupped Law’s cheek. Then again, Law wasn’t like most people. She moved up to kiss Law and when she pulled away, her eyes were practically shining. “Yes, yes” she replied breathlessly, her face flushed as she beamed at her lover–no, her fiance. “Of course I’ll marry you!”
Despite his best efforts to keep their upcoming nuptials a secret outside of the crew, word eventually reached Marineford after Trafalgar Law’s crew had bought a few curious items at the town they were last spotted in: white-and-silver cloth and a veil from a dressmaker’s shop, a small ring with a dark red gem from a jewelry store, and a bridal bouquet from a florist. His navigator had also been reported to have bought a small stuffed toy from a children’s store (a small stuffed snow leopard with a matching spotted baby blanket). Once the report had made it to Marine HQ, it quickly made its way to Grand Admiral Akainu’s desk and he called a meeting with Kizaru.
“Ohh, so they’re tying the knot?” Kizaru smirked at the report, and Akainu’s dour expression. “How sweet…Hey, maybe we could send them a wedding gift!”
Akainu glowered at his colleague. “Like a pair of Sea Stone handcuffs,” he replied gruffly. “I’m more concerned about what the navigator bought.” His eyes drifted down to the sentence describing the toy and blanket that Bepo had bought. “The marriage is inconsequential, but if she’s pregnant with his child…”
Kizaru leaned back on the couch he was lounging on. “Maybe this is a good thing,” he replied breezily. “If he’s got a wife and a bun in the oven, Law might be hesitant to do anything rash for a while. He’d have to lay low, and he’d be out of our hair for a short time.”
Akainu shook his head. “And what about the child? It’ll be born with the Will of D, and it’s likely got that witch’s demonic powers.” He stared down at the report on his desk.
“We could always give the kid their own wanted poster,” Kizaru said with a sarcastic lilt. “Though we’d have to wait a bit until we get a photo of them. Maybe if we ask nicely, Law could send us a copy of the ultrasound.”
Akainu stood up and walked out of his office. “We’ll just raise their bounties for now,” he said firmly. “If they aren’t captured or killed by the time their spawn is born, then we’ll give it an individual wanted poster.”
Kizaru raised an eyebrow as Akainu as he left and called out to him from the couch. “I was joking!”
Once their bounties were raised, rumors spread quickly throughout the seas that The Surgeon of Death and the Demon Queen were expecting. Law received a few packages from various News Coos congratulating the new couple. Rebecca, Viola, and Mansherry each sent him gifts; since he was integral to Dressrosa’s liberation, and because he was a “friend” of Straw Hat Luffy, they were more than happy to send him and his future wife a kind message and a few presents for their baby! Rebecca cut a piece of her gladiator’s cape and lined it with fur to create a soft, warm blanket. Viola sent a silver bath basin and a luxurious child-sized robe, as well as a few silk napkins to wipe up any spit-up. Mansherry sent a hand-made baby mobile made of multiple intertwined flowers (that strangely didn’t seem to ever dry out), as well as a small crystal vial containing some of her Healing Liquid in case the baby was ever hurt and needed it to heal them.
Some of the other Supernovas also sent various notes and small gifts; even if they were all rivals, it was a tradition to congratulate a fellow pirate if they were about to have a child and celebrate a new generation of piracy being brought into the world. Kid sent him a letter of congratulations, saying that even though babies were “fuckin gross squishy goblins,” he knew that Law would be able to protect his kid. (He also said that just because Law was a dad, it didn’t mean that he’d hold back when they inevitably fought again). Bonney sent him a letter demanding to know when the wedding was so she could have some wedding cake; she sent him two boxes of dark chocolates, saying that they were both for his wife in case she had cravings for something sweet. Urouge sent a necklace of wooden prayer beads, meant to bless the new child from “the dark forces that will conspire to harm them.” Apoo sent a “super sick bedtime mixtape”, and the music on it was actually very soothing. Hawkins was actually the first person to send a gift, and determined through a card reading what was happening before the rumors began to spread; he sent a small doll made out of straw, as well as a colored sketch of the cards he’d pulled when doing his reading (The Empress, the Lovers, and the Star, all upright).
Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats wanted to bring their gifts in-person, and by sheer luck they managed to crash the wedding at the exact island the Heart Pirates were holding it on right before the wedding was about to start. Bonney and her crew were also there since she knew there’d be cake, and Apoo’s crew was there since he’d offered to be the DJ (and refused to take no for an answer). Bepo, Penguin, and Shachi almost killed each other when they had argued who should be Law’s best man, so the three of them were splitting the responsibilities throughout the wedding.  ____ casually asked Robin to be her bridesmaid; she didn’t have many friends, but she felt a bit of kinship with the Devil Child and Robin happily accepted. Every time Sanji got heart eyes and gushed about how beautiful the bride looked, Law would roll his eyes and Shamble him to the other side of the reception.
The ceremony itself was very quiet and intimate. Nami managed to clap a hand over Luffy’s mouth (he kept cheering for Law and would not stop supporting his friend…very loudly), and Bepo proudly officiated the wedding by reading the vows on the back of his paw so he wouldn’t forget what to say. When they finally kissed, Franky was so moved that he launched an array of fireworks from his arms into the sky while sobbing over what a SUPER couple they were.
The reception was loud and raucous as the food and drinks kept flowing. Zoro, Bonney, Brook, and Usopp were drunkenly singing wedding and love songs; Apoo was playing a bomb-ass setlist of wedding songs; Zoro and Sanji got into a dance contest…that they both lost (Franky and Chopper entered the fray and absolutely obliterated them).
Law and ____ shared their first dance together on the beach while everyone else was distracted by Zoro and Sanji on the actual dance floor. Truth be told, Law preferred it this way. He had a content, lovestruck smile on his face as they swayed together in the moonlight; now, it was just the two of them. Well…the three of them.

HC with Zoro, Sanji, Ace and Sabo discovering that Luffy has an older twin sister? But at some points in the personality she is different from him: She is not impulsive, reckless, childish or naive. She is more mature, wise, responsible and cautious as a strategist.
Luffy is so lucky to have such amazing siblings, ain’t he? Well, sorry for the delay! I hope these cute headhanons were worth the wait!
Roronoa Zoro
Tumblr media
Zoro is already so used to finding out about the existence of Luffy’s siblings that at this point in time he wouldn’t be surprised if he told him that he grew up in an orphanage where everyone is everyone’s sibling.
Being used to Luffy’s antics, this girl’s very calm and careful demeanor feels like a breeze of fresh air. It feels kind of weird seeing someone who looks like Luffy from his peripheral while he’s napping against the mast and no loud noises or a voice follows.
Despite knowing that she’s Luffy’s sister, Zoro will be a little careful around her out of instinct, it’s really nothing personal. However, he’s going to ease around her a litte more easily than he usually does around most people just because he trusts that Luffy trusts her.
Zoro is big on respect, and that’s what he’s going to feel towards her, eventually, after a couple of encounters with her across the sea. A cool head and outstanding strategic skills are to be looked up to, and he can appreciate that even if he tends to act a little impulsively in fights himself.
She might sometimes teasingly make a comment about his temper and recklessness in battle, and honestly Zoro is not amused. She quickly earns herself the nicknames “smartass” or “sassy mouth” from this Zoro who never asked for her opinion on his life(fight)style. Prone to come out defeated and grumbling from any bickering that might arise between these two.
If she’s the overprotective kind of big sis who helps Luffy blow his nose or dabs a damp napkin to his face after he has downed a big piece of meat, Zoro is going to be very tempted to laugh at his Captain about it, but decides against it when he finds out that this trait of hers also stretches towards the rest of the crew. Him included. He isn’t fond of being told that there’s a bit of drool running from the corner of his lips to his chin after he wakes up. Definitely flinches several leaps backwards with a blush (an angry one, though…) on his cheeks if she tries to clean it too.
Sanji
Tumblr media
From the very moment Luffy mentions her, Sanji is looking forward to meeting her! Another beautiful lady to serve? Boy, this man is more than in. The idea of her being Luffy’s sister has him wondering how she might be like, because Luffy saying that she’s “really strong and smart” isn’t nearly enough to quench his curiosity.
He was honestly expecting her to be as clingy as Luffy, but knowing that she’s a little bit more reserved than him is also charming in its own way. This lady quickly makes her way into his heart no matter her personality, and is more than happy to have her on the ship.
Sanji is even happier to have her in his kitchen! Oh, bless her if she happens to have her brother’s appetite, because this talented cook over here is going to make her anything she wishes plus a few extra snacks. He honestly feeds her better during one visit than he has fed Luffy and the male rest of the crew the entirety of their time together, but he really does live to serve his beautiful girls.
Of course he likes calling her name with the usual  mellowed honorific, but his favorite thing to call her has to be “Captain-chan”. Sanji thinks it suits her perfectly. She’s the female version of his Captain! But tenfold better. I don’t know, he may or may not have jokingly suggested that she takes the place of head of the ship from her brother’s hands…
No matter how strong or careful he knows she is in battle, his offer about protecting her whenever the time requires it will never expire. He’s always eager to be her strong prince charming, despite how much he admires her skills and wit, despite knowing that Luffy puts his whole trust in what she can do.
Absolutely fakes a cold only to get a taste of her sweet, sweet cares. Even though he won’t let her cook any chicken broth for him (because that’s his job), he’s going to be absolutely grateful of her time around him, asking him how he’s feeling, feeding him, checking his temperature by pressing her forehead against his, and have her so close… oh boy, the heat is making him delirious, he might actually fall sick…
Portgas D. Ace
Tumblr media
Probably meets her very early on his friendship and, later, brotherhood with Luffy, because she came shortly after her blood brother did. Ace was a little skeptical about her joining their group, because he felt pretty awkward around girls and even thought that she could have been planning to give a feminine touch to their lives and no, he didn’t really like the idea.
He soon grows fond of her presence, mainly after seeing that she’s so important to Luffy. He also learns to value her intelligence and lets her partake in the arrangement of whatever little plan they were up to. Secretly admires her wit but will never tell her about it.
His demeanor towards her doesn’t change much from the treatment Luffy gets from him. Even if she’s slightly older than Luffy, she’s still not older than him, which means that she’s going to be his beloved little sister, which also means that he’s going to be awfully protective of her as well. He’s still very proud of her achievements and will gladly share her happiness.
He usually jokes about the irony of him being more alike Luffy personality-wise than her, being his sworn brother while she’s his blood sister. Ace really likes teasing her, but knows better than to let his tongue run too loose because she’s always able to sass the dignity out of him and, as harmless as she is, it never feels quite right.
Knowing that Luffy would have her and her rational mind by his side made him feel a little more at ease when he left to start his own adventure into piracy. Ace didn’t like the idea of leaving his beloved only brother on his own, so having his smart sis take care of him helped lift a heavy, guilty boulder off his shoulders.
Now looks forward to reading news about her on the newspaper, and is very proud of her steps on her way to become a pirate. Since she is such a careful girl, news featuring her are pretty rare, and this kind of disappoints him because since he left his siblings behind he doesn’t have many chances to pay visits to them, so the news are the fastest way to know that they are doing fine.
Sabo
Tumblr media
Sabo also met Luffy’s sister when he was very young, and honestly he liked her from the very beginning. He really likes that she’s so thoughful and calm, he thinks it’s a nice change from all the ruckus he tends to cause along with his other two siblings. She tends to pamper him a little, and he really isn’t all that against it.
Being the mum friend (sibling) in the group can be a little tiring sometimes, so having her to help him keep the other two at bay is quite appreciated. It doesn’t take long for the two to become to “mum duo”, as Ace and Luffy have named them between snickers.
He’s just a little less protective than Ace, but still constantly wants the best for his sister, as he does for his brothers. He wants her to know that she always has his whole support. He also really likes ruffling her and Luffy’s hair alike, because Ace just won’t let him do that and it’s his favorite way to physically show his affection to his siblings.
Kinda has a soft spot for her. Maybe it’s because he always wanted to have a little sister? Literally has a hard time denying anything she wants, and he’s quick to give up before a good pair of puppies eyes. It’s the only privilege she gets that Ace and Luffy don’t.
After the long years apart, when he finally meets with her again Sabo will want to apologize profusely and spend some quality time with her, if the moment allows, preferably over some food, just to catch up and take in her presence for the sake of the old good times. It reminds him of the nights they would spend awake together, just chatting away while the other two slept until someone (be it either their siblings or Dadan) knocked them into slumber.
He never really forgives himself for abandoning Luffy and Ace, and for not managing to save Ace in Marineford, but having Luffy’s sister still stay next to his youngest sibling, both alive and well, it lifts the burden even if just a tiny bit. He always looks forward to meeting with them and vows to protect them whenever they need it.

green with envy blues
ao3
Zoro thinks he’s a pretty loyal person.
He trusts and believes in Luffy. He’d follow Luffy to the end of the earth together with his nakama, brave and reckless and dumbass that Luffy is, because he's their dumbass. He did say he’d take Luffy down if he ever got in the way of Zoro’s dream, but even Zoro was beginning to reconsider that statement, one he’d made long before he’d known what kind of person Luffy was. All things considered, he’s a faithful crewmember and swordsman of the Strawhat Pirates.
Zoro looks up just in time to see Luffy launching himself at Sanji, wrapping his stretched limbs all over Sanji’s body. Sanji has just walked out of the galley carrying a plate full of fancy-looking drinks — for the girls, no doubt — and he’s extending his arm as far away as possible from Luffy’s grasp, and Luffy leans over his shoulder, their cheeks pressed against each other’s, their lips almost touching —
Zoro is seriously considering mutiny.
“Sanji…” Luffy whines, “food…”
“Lunch was just an hour ago,” Sanji points out, sighing. He rolls his shoulders, trying to get Luffy off of his back, but Luffy simply tightens his grip tighter around his shoulders. His leg shoots up to frame Sanji around his hips, and he now looks more like a living, breathing, noisy backpack surgically attached to Sanji's back.
“Come on, Sanji…” Luffy presses his face into Sanji’s left shoulder, “I want meat…”
Watching them from the deck, Zoro is suddenly hit with the urge to throw someone overboard. Luffy, maybe, captain or not. Or Sanji. Or himself.
And it’s not like Zoro thinks Sanji is interested in Luffy that way. Luffy is their captain, and along the way he’s also become everyone’s adopted little brother who makes dumb but sometimes terrifyingly insightful decisions. They all love him like a family, so it’s not like Zoro can be, you know.
Jealous,
Tch. As if .
“All right, you shitty rubber,” Sanji finally acquiesces, like most would after prolonged interaction with Luffy. “Just get off my back so I can fix something up for you.”
Luffy throws his hands up in the air and laughs. “You’re the best, Sanji!”
Sanji shakes his head, and there’s a fond smile on his face, like he can’t help finding Luffy’s antics adorable, and it’s not like Zoro wants Sanji to think he’s adorable, no fucking way, so Zoro isn’t. You know.
Jealous.
As if .
They’re docked at an island and Zoro is not-so-surreptitiously looking for Sanji.
This… thing they have is still new. They haven’t had the time to tell the crew yet considering their chaotic escape from the Sky Islands, and Zoro is now unsure as to how . He doesn’t think they’re planning to hide their relationship, but Sanji has always been the more complicated, emotional one. Zoro is letting him call the shots; he doesn't care about anyone else's opinions on their relationship. If Sanji wants him — and the Cook did admit as much — it's enough for him.
He finds Sanji with Nami and Luffy, and before he could call out to him he hears Nami say, “don’t let Luffy out of your sights, okay?”
Sanji gives her a ridiculous salute along with a cheerful, “of course, Nami-swan!”
So, that’s a no for a private time with Sanji today, then. Whatever. Zoro isn’t a clingy lover, and doesn’t really want to go on troublesome stuff like dates — that’s more of Sanji’s thing. He can just find the Cook tomorrow to...hang out. And do stuff. It’s not like he’s been planning this not-date for days.
Sanji grabs Luffy by the hand. “You’re coming with me.”
Zoro’s gaze drops toward Sanji’s hand.
Zoro doesn’t think he cares about the lovey-dovey part of a romantic relationship, like cuddling or kissing in public. He once saw a couple sharing a scarf in a winter island, and he can’t imagine doing that with Sanji. Sanji would probably try to choke him with the scarf if he ever suggested that.
Luffy tries to wriggle his hand away, and Sanji squeezes harder.
Zoro doesn't care, but damn it, Zoro has never even held Sanji’s hand .
They kissed once, after the campfire on the Sky Island, but they haven't really had the opportunity to explore their relationship beyond that. Not that Zoro wants Sanji to suddenly change and become overly affectionate towards him, but he looks at Sanji’s hand wrapped around Luffy’s and something unfurls within his chest and he wants. God, he wants .
Sanji practically drags Luffy out of Merry by the hand, and Zoro is suddenly aware that his own hands are very, very cold.
“Zoro is being dumb,” Luffy says by way of greeting, hanging upside down from Nami’s mikan tree, one hand on his hat to keep it from falling. They’re on ship watch duty today, which means it’s supposed to be Zoro’s naptime. Supposed to be.
Zoro blinks awake, and narrows his eyes at him from below. “I’m not taking that from you .”
“But Zoro is being really dumb,” Luffy insists, swaying slightly. Zoro has half the mind to kick him down. “Dumber than usual.”
Zoro closes his eyes at that, trying to get back to sleep, but nobody can stop Luffy when he has set his mind on something. So when he hears Luffy land on the ground in front of him, he sighs and asks, “What are you talking about?”
The question comes out harsher than he intended, and he feels a tinge of guilt at his own irritation, because it’s not like Luffy is trying to take Sanji away from Zoro. It’s not like Sanji belongs to anyone for Luffy to take. Luffy is just Luffy, and Sanji’s Sanji, and Zoro’s the one who’s being weird.
Luffy doesn’t take offense, thankfully, and simply cocks his head to the side. “You’re mad,” he points out.
“I’m not mad,” he denies quickly, but Luffy simply looks at him, and Zoro shrugs. “Okay, maybe, kind of. But not at you,” he quickly adds.
“You’re mad at yourself,” Luffy guesses.
That sounds about right, if Zoro really thinks about it. Mad at himself for getting mad at Luffy, for not doing anything, for overthinking this whole thing. For being — fuck, jealous . “Yeah,” he agrees.
“What are you, Zoro?” Luffy suddenly asks out of the blue.
Zoro frowns, confused. Conversations usually flow easily between him and Luffy, but sometimes Luffy has these moments , and Zoro can’t read him at all. “What?”
“Are you a hero?” Luffy asks. “Because heroes get nice things like meat and sake and gold, but they have to share the nice things with other people and get mad at themselves for being nice.”
The sentence is very Luffy , in all its straightforward simplicity, and Zoro scoffs at that. He really was being dumb. “No, captain,” he answers, a grin slowly making its way to his expression. “I’m a pirate.”
“And you know what pirates do, Zoro?” Luffy grins back. “They fight to get what they want. And you’re being really dumb if you forget that.”
Zoro straightens his back and stands up at that, eyes already fixed on the galley. He hits Luffy playfully on the head as he walks past him and says, “I won’t let you call me dumb again, you hear me?”
Luffy just laughs, and Zoro makes his way to Sanji.
Sanji is in the middle of taking off his apron when Zoro walks into the room, and he doesn’t bother waiting for Sanji to finish as he wraps his hands around Sanji from the back and buries his face between his shoulder blades.
Sanji stiffens at the touch, but quickly relaxes when he realizes who it is. He lets the apron fall to the floor, spooling near his feet as he runs his hand through Zoro’s hair. “What is this, Marimo? Someone’s hungry?”
Zoro lets Sanji’s voice wash over him, and there’s warmth settling at his gut. “I get to do this,” he says, more of a statement than a question.
Sanji seems to take a moment to figure out what Zoro’s thinking, but they’ve always been good at understanding each other without having to say a word, because it doesn’t take long for Sanji to answer, “yeah.” He leans back, resting his head on Zoro’s shoulder. “Yeah, you get to do this.”
Zoro thinks over the last few days, the visceral burn at the back of his throat when he sees Sanji a little too close to someone else. He decides to say, “ Only I get to do this.”
This time it’s more of a question — because Sanji is his equal, and has much of a say to this than he does, and they'll meet each other halfway. They always do.
That earns him a laugh from Sanji, the kind that’s light and carefree and rare, and Zoro thinks his heart is going to burst from his chest. “Yeah,” Sanji says, and then adds, because of course Sanji can read him like a book and knows where he was going with this. “I’ll make sure to prepare food for Luffy before he gets clingy.”
“Good,” he says, and smiles, and leans in for an open-mouthed kiss, because he gets to do, that, too.

FEATURE: Why Big Mom Is The Actual Villain Of One Piece
Tumblr media
It has been said that a hero is defined by their villains.
I would go further and say that often an entire series is defined by its villains. Many action-adventure works have rather simple heroes and often find their texture in the supporting cast, world-building, or other factors to make them stand out. One Piece has a similar approach, at least initially ― Luffy is a sunshine lad with a singular mission, a big appetite, and stretchy punchy powers. He goes from island to island making friends and thwarting enemies as any good hero is prone to do.
Luffy’s rogues’ gallery includes many of the most powerful individuals in One Piece’s setting. Their names strike fear into thousands; individuals like Sir Crocodile, Doflamingo, Rob Lucci, Kaido, and Blackbeard to name a few. It’s a veritable “Who’s Who” list of world-renowned criminals. Each reflects an aspect of Luffy’s character in their own distorted way. These characters are Luffy’s own traits but through a glass darkly.
Tumblr media
Crocodile shares Luffy’s penchant for toppling island governments. Alabasta (some might call it Alabesta, and who can blame them?) is a legendary arc precisely because it sets the tone for One Piece ’s grander political ambitions. Sir Crocodile is working covertly to overthrow the government for his own ends, and though Luffy is his opposition, he is not so different from our hero. Luffy and the Straw Hats also have a habit of arriving at an island and usurping the existing order. Luffy and friends have no problem overthrowing the status quo at a location if they find injustice. But Crocodile is doing so for his own ends and aggrandizement, replacing one form of control with another. Luffy liberates for liberation’s sake.
Tumblr media
Doflamingo is similar to Crocodile in that he is about control and usurpation. This time, however, Doflamingo takes the twist of Luffy’s desire to become king to its villainous conclusion. Doflamingo takes over but rules from behind the scenes, making people dance on the ends of his manipulative strings. Doflamingo’s rule is one of coercion and gleeful cruelty. Luffy overthrows Doflamingo in order to re-establish a former order, and most importantly, bring back a sense of communal good where before only fear reigned.
Tumblr media
Blackbeard is seen by many as the ultimate antithesis of Luffy. In a sense, that’s accurate. Perhaps one of Luffy’s most obvious traits is his grand ambition to become King of the Pirates. Blackbeard’s haunting refrain of “A man’s dreams never die!” and his sheer unprecedented double Devil Fruit powers make him a unique oppositional force to Luffy. For a long time, I too held that Blackbeard was the penultimate villain of Luffy’s journey. But as of late, my feelings on that have begun to change.
I firmly believe that Big Mom is the true villain of the series.
Tumblr media
In terms of parallels, Big Mom has more than a few connections to our hero. Her enormous appetite is one key similarity, both she and Luffy are known to put away their fair share of food and are even prone to the single-minded pursuit of food on occasion. Of course, Luffy’s appetite has never strayed into cannibalism nor filicide, hence her status as his villainous counterpart. Furthermore, her dogged pursuit of family mirrors Luffy’s own drive to save and protect his own family (found or otherwise). In Big Mom’s case, this is both due to her tragic past but also her desire for political power in the present ― she does everything she can to increase the size of her family in the pursuit of yet further power. Luffy, on the other hand, is one who liberates others, asking them to join his crew because ― even if they can help him ― they are first and foremost his nakama (crewmembers/part of your group), people who he would protect at any cost and against any foe.
Tumblr media
Beyond this, there are the textual similarities to Luffy. One Piece is a long series (shocking news I know), and it has a character list that would make your eyes water. Few recurring characters get much screen time beyond the rare callback or brief check-in between arcs. I would argue that many of the Straw Hat pirates themselves struggle to find adequate screen time due to the sheer number of characters Oda introduces, and they are ostensibly the stars of the show.
Yet Big Mom keeps showing up, arc after arc, and when she does ― she gets the limelight baby.
Tumblr media
Few characters have anything like Luffy’s narrative gravitational pull. Why should they? After all, Luffy is our protagonist. When Luffy arrives on the scene, the world inevitably, inexorably, turns toward the actions of that silly rubber boy and his antics. Big Mom manages to exist in a similar space. It does not matter whether it is a tense political discussion, light-hearted gag, or bone-shattering fight sequence: any scene Big Mom shows up in will end up being about Big Mom, one way or another. Big Mom is a kaiju in the final minutes of a monster film, a storm that strikes with all the sound and fury of the heavens. Any fight involving Big Mom requires an all-hands-on-deck response combined with all sorts of haphazard solutions to try and keep her at bay. She never really gets defeated, only delayed or avoided. Just like our loveable Monkey, when Big Mom acts, the world adjusts accordingly.
Tumblr media
I also think Oda just has a blast writing Big Mom. Eiichiro Oda is a creator known for his almost joyful dedication to the craft, among his many talents is his love of creating new and wondrous characters. Even in the current arc of Wano, which is going on three(!) years now in the manga, in between delivering on decades-old lore drops and revelations about existing characters, Oda still squeezes in new characters with an almost reckless abandon.
But in all that, who does he make time to spotlight? Which villain has as much screen time and importance as anyone else? Why Big Mom of course.
Tumblr media
From her thematic similarities to her narrative importance to her consistent presence on the page and the screen, I think Oda has been setting the stage for Big Mom as Luffy’s true defining nemesis for years now. Obviously, all of his former foes have left their mark on the series and our hero (in Akainu’s case quite literally), but few have had the consistent presence Big Mom has. No matter what happens between now and the series finale, I think we will come to realize that Big Mom will end up being the defining villain for the series. In hunger, in ambition, in family, in presence, Big Mom looms larger than Luffy in every regard.
But you know what they say, the bigger they are ...

Note
Hey VelkynKarma! I just read that post you made about a hypothetical One Piece/Voltron crossover. It was awesome! One Piece is my favorite anime and I love Voltron! Here's my question to you: say, hypothetically, Shiro is with the Straw Hats and a Galra commander or whatever shows up. He starts taunting him with the usual Champion/broken soldier/belonging-to-the-Galra crap. What would be the crew's reactions? (Individual or group, I'll leave up to you.)
Oh man, what an interesting question! I got kind of into thinking about this one, so answers under the cut.
As a general rule, the Strawhat crew looks out for its own, but they also tend to not pry unless necessary. I don’t think a Galra commander showing up would particularly bother them, or even initially referring to Shiro as ‘Champion.’ Epithets are pretty common in One Piece after all, they’d probably just assume it’s Shiro’s marine-given name in the same way lots of people refer to Luffy as ‘Strawhat.’ There’s all manner of weird people in the One Piece universe, I don’t think they’d bat an eye at a furry purple guy showing up (hell, Luffy will probably ask if he poops). And everyone has enemies in One Piece, or pasts they don’t necessarily talk about as a general rule. The Strawhats tend to not dig into somebody’s backstory unless it becomes a key part of whatever adventure they’re on. (For example, Robin, who’s been wanted since she was a very young child, but Luffy didn’t consider knowing the ‘why’ of that all that important even when he was storming Enies Lobby to rescue her). As far as the Straw Hats are concerned, your crewmate’s past is their own business unless they want to share it with you, and I don’t think Shiro would bother to really explain it. There’s just too much to try an explain, both from the perspective of ‘there’s a lot of story to tell’ and ‘there’s a lot about my world I’d have to explain just to make this story make sense.’That said, once they realize Shiro is hurt in some way by this attacker, all bets are off. Shiro had a very visceral reaction to Sendak’s taunts in Crystal Venom, and I’m not sure he’d be able to avoid the same thing if a Galra officer really started messing with his head. And you know what the Straw Hat Pirates do to people who mess with their crew member’s heads? Mess’em up. Big time. Luffy flat-out will not stand for anyone hurting his crew in any way, shape or form, and Shiro’s an unofficial member. The moment he catches on to this guy hurting Shiro in any way, he’s going to pile drive him into the ground, probably entirely literally, and the rest of the Straw Hats won’t be far behind. That’s a general response, but I think a few other characters would have a more particular individual response. Luffy, of course, is going to be at the head of the pack messing up this Galra officer, but Luffy also has a weird tendency to see things very differently than most people. I can see him saying something surprisingly insightful or wise to support his newest crew member, something that will probably catch Shiro completely by surprise (because Luffy just...doesn’t seem the type, most of the time). Zoro I think could be an interesting case. He’s not the type of character to go out of his way to say nice things, but he is the big defender of the crew. If Luffy says beat it up or kill it, he does it, end of story, because Luffy Says. I think he’d mess up this Galra officer almost as much as Luffy would, but I think Zoro can also relate to Shiro in a way most crew members can’t. Zoro’s definitely one of the most bloodthirsty members of the team and willing to do whatever it takes to win; this is the guy ready and willing to cut his own limbs off to win a fight. I think he could probably resonate with the ‘Champion’ part of Shiro very well, and probably provide some silent support in that regard. (Or, if it’s very clearly messing with Shiro, he might even say something--although it will still be short, blunt, and to the point). Nami, I think, could also strongly relate. Nami also knows what it’s like to be ‘owned’ by a race that’s been absolutely cruel to you; her entire story with Arlong and being used for her own abilities is extremely similar. She knows what it’s like to be literally marked by that group owning you (with her tattoo, compared to Shiro’s scars and arm). Nami also knows what it’s like to feel powerless to escape it, and how isolated it can feel. She also has since learned what it means to have friends to support you in it, and how much that can really help when you feel otherwise completely helpless, so I think she could strongly relate. And Nami can have tact and kindness when she feels like it; I feel like afterwards she might go out of her way to do something to reassure him, just like she does with other characters who are “temporary crew members.” Robin I also feel will very strongly relate to Shiro, and if this were to take place after Enies Lobby, she may even willingly speak about her own experiences just to give him something to relate to. She knows what it’s like to be given a title you don’t want and to be accused of doing horrific things. She also knows what it’s like to do anything you can do to survive, and being forced to do some terrible things, just because you aren’t given a chance to leave that situation. The Galra officer taunting Shiro like that would leave her infuriated--a rare moment of anger usually reserved for destroying her precious artifacts and ruins. She’s been through that hell and she wouldn’t willingly wish it on anybody else. Robin, like Zoro, is also one of the few Straw Hat members implied to have done some darker stuff in her past, so I think she would also understand the ‘Champion’ part of Shiro very well, too.Franky I can see being absolutely LIVID the moment he realizes that it’s one of THESE guys that took Shiro’s arm and replaced it. Like, it’s cool tech okay, it’s the best of the best, but you don’t DO that without permission, and if you have to do it, you make sure you do it RIGHT. Lion-bro’s arm has been his job to look after since he first showed up and he’s pissed at whoever did that to him. The moment he’s got a target to go after for that, he’s gonna really do his best to mess him up. I think the only person who might get madder is Luffy, and that’s only because Luffy’s rages are classic. I don’t really see Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, or Brook having any particularly strong reactions outside of ‘hey that’s our crew member you mess with him and you mess with all of us.’ Chopper might know something about mental health or PTSD enough to help treat it, but mental illness isn’t really heavily covered in One Piece, so I’m not sure if that’d be a thing he knows about. Sanji might have a more visible reaction if he somehow learns of bad food rules or regulations while Shiro was a prisoner (I wouldn’t be surprised if withholding food was a punishment), but that’s only in the very specific instance that it comes up. Usopp and Brook might do their best to cheer Shiro up after the fact, if he needs it still, but I don’t think either of them could really connect to his situation or reaction. Just pray they don’t recruit Zoro, Sanji, and Franky for Docking as a way to cheer Shiro up because could you just fucking imagineBut yeah, basically they’d all beat the shit out of this Galra officer, and then some of them might try to help afterwards if they understand what he’s dealing with. In their own special ways, of course.

Next Chapter: 16
Rare were the days that Zoro went in to work early. Rarer still were the days where he managed not to get lost on the way. It was the rarest day of all that saw Zoro, for the first time in all his years of working at Franky's shop that saw Zoro make it to work both early and without having to ask for directions.
Together, Franky and Nami were in awe of this unimaginable feat when he arrived, the two of them unsure if they had been deposited into some sort of alternate reality where their Zoro had been replaced with a more competent version.
"Whoa man, is there something special going on today or what?" Franky had asked with a surprised laugh, to which Zoro didn't reply, but Nami soon began to recognize his behaviour.
When Zoro really focused on something, and she meant really set his mind straight, Nami knew that he was capable of pretty much anything he wanted to be capable of. He just had to have the drive, the need, the want to do it badly enough to do it as well as he could.
Music was one of those things.
He loved it; it was his passion, his career, his ultimate direction in life. It meant everything to him, and when he realized he could share that passion, educate other people to explore and perform it as well as he could, well, that had just amplified everything he already felt.
When Zoro showed up for work early, it was because he was excited to have a new pupil.
When he showed up unhindered by his navigational flaws, it was because he was focused.
With a slight frown, Nami knew it was because he was focused and thinking about teaching Sanji.
A thick feeling of jealousy curdled in her stomach as Zoro passed her and went to play around with the floor guitars until his first lesson of the day showed up. That feeling bubbled up every time Zoro expressed that much interest in someone new that wasn't an immediate member of their group, but she managed to quell it whenever it arose by reminding herself that that part of their lives was over.
Their time together like that was done.
With a deep sigh, she began to smile again at customers as they entered and left the building, ringing up purchases as they did.
During the week, business for Zoro was slow. Most of the people he taught were younger, and had school to go to before they could get a real education by his hand. When he'd first started giving music lessons, it was hard for most people, himself included, to believe that he actually enjoyed the pursuit.
He hadn't thought he'd have the patience for it. No one really did, but when his band fell through, he hadn't known what to do with his time or talent; what other job could a punk like him have that didn't revolve around playing music?
The whole thing had been Franky's idea.
Rather than let Zoro's talent waste away with disuse, he'd offered to let him teach it at his store. Zoro only accepted because Nami had said it would be good for him, and together they took positions at Super-Star! Guitars.
The first few lessons he'd taught had been awkward, sure; he really didn't have any idea about how he was supposed to teach anyone anything.
His patience did run thin at times when it became hard for him to explain concepts he understood perfectly, but couldn't find a way to relate it to his pupils. He was miserable with the work until someone did learn something.
The first time someone had learnt a song from his teaching had been unforgettable. The look on their face was one of triumph, pride, and excitement. It was one that realized it had creative potential, and had been turned on Zoro with such thankfulness that he'd been taken aback by how powerful of an emotion it expressed.
He'd realized then that teaching was something he wanted to do for as long as Luffy remained missing, until such time he could refocus his talent on producing new music instead.
Zoro didn't care much for Sanji in particular; found him pretty annoying, if he were honest, but throughout the day leading up to their first lesson together, he couldn't keep himself from imagining how Sanji would look when the time came for him to realize his potential.
The cook would probably play it cool at first or keep it to himself. It'd probably be something Zoro would have to look for in slight mannerisms or different quirks that Sanji didn't usually exhibit.
Even throughout the other lessons he gave that day, Sanji wasn't far from his mind. He permeated his thoughts, distracted him from his fingerwork as he played, caused him to perform sloppy chords, and to even call another student by his name.
If Nami noticed his slip in professionalism, she didn't mention it until it was time for Sanji to show up.
Zoro was at her desk, leaning forward on the counter with an incredibly distracted look written plainly across his face. His eyes were directed downwards, and had a faraway look glazing them as she grinned slightly.
"You're really excited for this, huh?" she asked, chin resting in her open palm as she tried to pry him free from whatever thoughts currently held him captive.
"Shut up," he grunted distantly, and scowled when she laughed slightly.
A sadness began to creep its way into Nami's mind before she could escape it, making her grin falter for a moment before she sat back in her chair.
"You look like a kid whose mom forgot to pack him lunch." Openly teasing him began to make her feel better as he jolted free from his imaginings. "You should've told Sanji to bring you some dinner."
"Shut the fuck up," he snapped, shooting her an angry glare as he turned his back to her and adopted a cross-armed stance. "His shitty food isn't even that good."
"Better tell him that, then," she said, looking out the window with a bemused expression on her face. "I'm sure he'd love to hear your feedback."
"He already has."
"Hm."
They fell into an uneasy silence that neither one of them could really explain why it was uneasy. Zoro kept leaning against the front counter, unintentionally re-routing customers to other check-out stations, while Nami stared out the window.
Squinting, she soon realized she could make out Sanji's figure approaching the store and sat up abruptly, quickly saying, "Are you really not excited at all about teaching Sanji?"
Zoro shook his head definitevely: no.
"Shame," she said with a dramatic sigh, a mischievous look crossing her features as she smoothly spoke. "Because he looks pret-ty excited to me."
She delighted in the way Zoro's head suddenly snapped up to look in the direction she was lazily pointing at to see him coming up the walk.
"Oh shit," he breathed out hastily before jerking forward away from the counter and rapidly making his way back to his corner of the store, out of sight of Sanji, who entered with a smile.
"Nami, my darling!" Swooning, he all but floated into the spot Zoro had been occupying only moments before. "You are looking as beautiful as ever!"
"Hey, Sanji," she replied with a smile of her own, sitting back down into her chair. "How was the art show? We haven't really had a chance to talk about it!"
Opening his mouth to reply with a grand speech about the evening's events already perched on the tip of his tongue, ready to come spilling forward- he paused. An epiphany struck him so suddenly and so strongly in that moment that he had to take a second to recollect his thoughts before he finally spoke again.
"I'll do you one better, my sweet," he said in a voice that he hoped was as charming as his face was, hoping against all hopes that it would be enough to win her over. He leaned forward onto the counter with his arm, smiling seductively.
"Oh yeah?" she said, returning his smile with one of her own.
"I'd gladly tell you all about it, if! If your beautiful, lovely self would accompany me out to dinner tonight."
Nami had been expecting this for a while, and had a refusal already prepared for him, but as she was about to deny his request, she thought about Zoro's interest in him and accepted his offer instead.
"Are you asking me out on a date?" she giggled cutely, throwing on the charm Sanji had so desperately wanted to see from her.
"I am," he said smoothly, despite how fast his heart was beating in his chest.
"Alright, I'll do it, but I work until 10 tonight, so, tomorrow night instead? I don't work Saturdays."
Saturdays.
The mere mention of his cursed days was enough to send a slight shiver down his spine that Nami misinterpreted as a reaction to her voice, but he repressed it as best he could and kept his grin from faltering at the suggestion.
He knew he could deny it; knew he could ask for dinner Sunday night instead, but what if she couldn't make that? What other choice did he have?
With a (slightly forced) smile of jubilation, Sanji exclaimed, "Wonderful! Terrific! The best thing I've heard all week!"
"What is?"
Zoro's gruff voice came from behind the cook, startling him out of his moment of elation. He turned on the punk with a bored expression, one that was so completely opposite of how he'd just looked at Nami that the total change was deemed impressive by her.
"Where the fuck did you come from?"
"You're late," Zoro said in lieu of an explanation. "I told you not to be."
Guiltily, Nami found herself intervening before Sanji could hash out a reply that would start an argument between them.
"Sorry, Zoro," she said, speaking sheepishly. "I was talking to him and held him up, but he's all yours now."
"Oh, my darling, you have nothing to apologize for! I'd rather spend all of my time with you instead of with this brute of a man!"
Sanji's annoyance with him was re-channeled into a doting aura as he spun back around to face Nami, filling her with reassurances and dismissing the other man entirely.
Zoro snorted and looked away boredly, unamused by his antics as Nami laughed politely, ushering him to follow after his new instructor.
"That's nice, but you should really go now."
Sanji gestured for her hand and took it when she gave it, placing a kiss on the backside of it and charming her with a smile as he finally pulled away.
"Of course! I will see you again in the better part of an hour!"
"More like 50 minutes, now," Zoro mumbled before leading them away from the front desk.
Nami watched them go into the back of the store and wondered curiously to herself how the lesson would play out, unsure if Sanji would respect Zoro enough to allow himself to be taught, or if they'd break into a fight before it was through.
Thinking about it, she picked up the receiver of the store phone and hit the extension number for Brook, who answered enthusiastically.
"Yeeeeeeeeeees? How may I help the lovely woman working the front counter?"
"Zoro's about to come back there with that new student of his." Brook's voice sounded hollow over the phone as he hummed thoughtfully to himself before asserting that yes, he had just seen them pass by. "Can you check in on them in like, 15 minutes? Just to make sure they're getting along alright?"
"Certainly I can! Do they famously not?"
"You have no idea. Thanks, Brook," Nami said with a smile before hanging up.
From the back rooms, Sanji saw Brook wave at them as they passed by his office and gave a simple wave in return before they entered through the double doors and into the secondary hall behind them.
Zoro peeked into a few of the rooms before he finally settled on one that suited his needs and brought Sanji in, the tension that had been building between them changing into something akin to indifference as the cook inspected the room.
It was simple, small, and a weird brownish grey in colour. Two foldout chairs and a couple of small amplifiers were all it contained, along with what Sanji assumed was Zoro's guitar as the man sat down in one of the seats and reached for the gig bag propped up against the wall.
Following suit, Sanji sat down across from him and noticed how the sound in the room was different from when they'd been on the floor. It was more muted by the soundproofed walls, isolating them in a confined space that held a different air from anywhere they'd been together before.
This was a more intimate space than he was accustomed to sharing with a man.
Zoro didn't seem phased by it as he unzipped the bag and withdrew the white bass Sanji had seen with him before. Plopping it in his lap, he gave the strings a few plucks before evidently remembering Sanji was there.
"So," he began, speaking slowly. "What do you want to learn, shit cook?"
That was a question Sanji had been asking himself for the better part of last night and shrugged, never really ever having coming to a sound conclusion on the matter.
"I don't know, you shitty teacher; what're you best at?"
"Bass." Zoro answered immediately and without hesitation, showing Sanji the instrument in his hands. "Then guitar."
"Bass it is, then," Sanji said, reclining back into his chair after he'd gotten a good look at Zoro's hands- er, no, the thing in his hands.
Zoro nodded solemnly, as though he'd expected that that might've been what Sanji wanted to learn all along. Sanji glanced haphazardly around the room, looking for a secondary bass, but didn't see one.
"Well?" he asked, quirking a brow at Zoro who returned his annoyed look.
"Well what?"
Sanji gestured empty-handedly around the room, indicating to the other man that he had no instrument with which he could play.
"So go get one," Zoro said with a snort and a roll of his eyes.
"From where?" he asked irritably.
"From out there, you moron. The store's full of them."
Sanji released a heavy sigh of annoyance before standing up, roughly punching Zoro in the shoulder as he passed by and left the room and subsequent hall to return to the main sales floor.
As he looked around at all the guitars, Sanji had the thought that Zoro was a damned dirty liar; most of the instruments displayed were six-string electric guitars with nary a bass in sight. How typical it was of Zoro to give him faulty instruction, he thought as he scowled. He wandered around through most of the store aimlessly, scouring the instruments for one that he could use, taking his time until he found the small, nearly hidden niche that stored a wall full of the guitars he'd been looking for.
"Finally," he muttered to himself, going to pick one off the wall when he paused, met now with another problem.
At first glance, he'd thought it wouldn't matter which one he'd picked, but beyond the hefty price tags attached to them, he noticed that there were differences between the instruments displayed.
The headstock. The tuning pegs on the headstocks were reversed depending on which bass he looked at. The strings associated with them followed suit and changed according to whichever side the pegs stood out on, confusing him further and causing him to wonder whether or not it mattered.
Frowning, he attempted to recall which way Zoro's bass had had the pegs and strings, and then picked one that matched the mental image he recalled. He held it in his hands, surprised by how light the guitar was despite its solid looks and noted how fucking expensive the damned thing was.
It was an easy carry as he hauled it back into the room where Zoro was waiting, already plugged into an amp and warming up his fingers. As he sat down and retook his seat, holding the long-necked guitar in his lap the way Zoro was holding his, he was met with a frown and a severely quirked brow.
"What now?" Sanji asked with a deep sigh.
"You left-handed?" Zoro queried slowly.
"No."
"Well, you've got yourself a lefty bass. Holding it like a lefty, too."
Sanji blanched a bit as he realized his mistake, not having noticed before that Zoro wasn't right-handed.
Instead of mocking him, Zoro merely rolled his eyes and stuck his bass into a nearby guitar stand and then stood, gesturing for Sanji to pass the guitar to him.
"I'll get you a good one," he explained, appearing antsy and bored.
Wordlessly, Sanji gave the instrument over to him and watched as the punk quickly departed.
Left alone, he frowned down at himself. How had he never noticed before? Had they ever done anything together that would've even revealed that Zoro was left-handed? They'd known each other for less than a week, so there was still plenty of room for surprises like that to come about.
Eventually he shrugged it off and began to tap his fingers against his leg, a habit he'd recently come to attribute to doing whenever he had need of a cigarette. Or…
Or maybe it signaled some great, hidden musical talent that lay dormant and hidden inside him, just waiting for a patient teacher to discover and nurture it into brilliance.
Sanji laughed quietly to himself at the thought of being inherently better at playing bass than Zoro was. He would've loved to put the punk in his place by being better than him at something he was good at.
He was disrupted from his thoughts when the door of the room re-opened, but looking up, he saw that it was not Zoro who had returned, but was Brook instead.
"Hello, young student! How is your first lesson coming along?"
Brook let himself into the room with a the largest smile Sanji had ever seen a man wear before. Taken off guard, Sanji floundered for a moment before answering.
"Uh, well, it hasn't actually started yet?"
"Oh?" Looking around the room, Brook seemed to notice that Zoro was missing. He cocked his head and let his smile diminish before returning his gaze to Sanji. "Where has your instructor gone?"
"To get him something to play on."
Zoro's voice came from the hall, and the two of them in the room turned to look at him as he came in, skirting around Brook to hand Sanji the guitar he'd chosen.
"Oh! Of course, how silly of me."
Brook chuckled as Sanji properly held the instrument in his hand, holding it opposite the way Zoro held his as he reclaimed his seat.
Together, the three of them occupied the room silently, with Zoro and Sanji staring at each other as Brook stared at them.
"Uh, did you need something, Brook?" Zoro asked when the man didn't leave right away.
Jumping slightly at being addressed, Brook clapped his hands together and exclaimed, "OH! Yes, I did, actually!"
"Okay," Zoro said slowly, attempting to draw the information out of the stubborn man while Sanji tentatively pressed his fingers to the strings, surprised at how thick they were. "Well, what is it? We're kind of trying to start something here."
"Right, right; do forgive me; it was about the upcoming Solstice show, but it can wait until after you're done. My apologies, dear Sanji," Brook said, bowing slightly as he asked forgiveness.
"It's no problem," Sanji said uncertainly, but it seemed enough for Brook who smiled warmly at him and then let himself out of the room.
"Fucking finally," Zoro said with an agitated sigh, leaning down to grab the cord Sanji needed to plug into the amplifier.
"What's the Solstice show?" Sanji asked as Zoro plugged him in and turned on the amp. A sharp buzzing noise was heard briefly before the punk adjusted the volume on both the amplifier and the bass in Sanji's hands.
"A recital for students. He'll probably ask if you want to play in it at some point."
"Play in it?" Sanji seemed shocked. "Play what? I've just started!"
"Exactly. Which leads me to asking you what it is you want to learn to play."
"Is- is the bass in my hands not obvious enough?" Sanji's voice was thickly laced with sarcasm as he tried to decipher whether Zoro was honestly that stupid, or was genuinely asking him again whether or not he wanted to learn to play the bass.
"No, fuck- not that; I meant musically, like, what kind of songs do you want to learn, you fucking ass."
"No preference," Sanji said truthfully, shrugging disinterestedly after he'd given it a few seconds of thought. "Just teach me whatever it is you play the best."
"God." Zoro let out a stressed sigh and rubbed his temple for a moment before looking up at him again. "Punk music's what I'm best at, but there's a lot of different types of punk, but I won't bother asking you which of those you want to learn."
"You're so thoughtful."
"Shut up, I'll just make you a playlist with different examples and let you decide from there," he said exasperatedly. This was not how he wanted his first lesson with Sanji to go, but he would've been a fool if he'd expected it to go any other way but badly.
"So, then, what do we do for the rest of this?" Sanji asked boredly, tapping his fingers along the strings, experimenting with the different sounds they produced.
"We'll just go over the scales today; 's as good a starting place as any," Zoro replied as he slipped into his professional persona and began to teach.
It was a little hard to get the hang of it at first, because Zoro played the scales so fast and so damn well, but beyond that, Sanji was having a difficult time pressing down on the strings hard enough to get a sustainable noise that sounded good. The rough nature of the strings hurt his fingertips, and though his hands were calloused from working in the kitchens, they were calloused in all the wrong places that didn't help at all with what he was trying to learn.
Zoro himself was getting a little frustrated with his progress, but what had he expected? It was only Sanji's first day.
"Okay, look, no; you keep aligning your fingers on the wrong fret." There were only a few minutes left to their lesson session, and Zoro felt like they hadn't anything other than establishing the fact that Sanji was a true blue beginner. He could tell that the chef was honestly trying to get it, but it was hard to see that when the cook's fingers kept fumbling into the wrong frets. "Here, look; place your fingers here."
He leaned forward and grabbed hold of Sanji's fingers, an action that was at once suddenly intimate for no discernible reason. Sanji froze as he felt Zoro's fingers on his, positioning them correctly the way he wanted them to be and then pressuring them into pressing down on the strings appropriately.
His heart was beating fast again, thought it was, now, for a different reason. What was it? He couldn't place it and didn't like that Zoro seemed unphased by the contact that had jolted him like that. It felt wrong. It was too intimate; too personal. His hands were his most prized possession, one he didn't like being touched or appraised by people that weren't him.
And then, all at once, the contact ceased. Mentally shaking himself free of the stupor he'd been in, he saw that Zoro was giving him a queer look.
"You got that?" Zoro asked him slowly, unsure of what the cook was doing.
"Uh, yeah." What the fuck.
"Play it for me then."
Sanji did his best to perform the scale as Zoro had instructed him, and it certainly sounded better than before, but still wasn't up to par.
"Alright, well, that's all for today then," Zoro said with a sigh. "Just, y'know, keep practicing them at home and you'll get them by the next time you come in."
"How?" Sanji found himself asking lamely, the bass in his lap feeling heavier than he remembered it being as he looked down at it. "I don't have one of these at home, you know."
When he looked up, he found Zoro staring at him with a stupidly blank look on his face.
"Oh yeah," he said lamely before going quiet.
"Yeah, you idiot."
"Huh."
Rolling his eyes, his concern about the earlier surprise contact being tucked aside for the moment, Sanji came to a stand.
"We're done now, right?" he asked, to which Zoro shrugged and nodded.
The punk too came to a stand, depositing his bass in the stand and taking Sanji's from him.
Together they left the room, though Zoro had a perplexing expression on his face that Sanji couldn't read as they passed by Brook and again came into the main portion of the store.
"Nami'll check you out," Zoro said distractedly, heading towards where he'd known Sanji had picked the bass, presumably to return it.
Confused by his behaviour, Sanji chose to deliberately ignore it as he made to return to where Nami was assuredly waiting for him, though something about him seemed off now. He wanted to see Nami, sure, but he wasn't as excited about it anymore. Another feeling of perturbed feeling of wrongness settled in him as he approached her without his usual excitement.
To look at her now, knowing they had a date tomorrow night was beginning to feel like a mistake. It hurt to think of it that way, but he couldn't shake the feeling that it was the wrong thing to do after he'd shared that whatever the fuck it was with Zoro.
"How'd it go?" Nami asked, smiling at him when he reached her, oblivious to his inner turmoils.
"It went alright, I think," Sanji said, though he found he wasn't entirely sure about that.
"You think?" she replied with a laugh as she began to ring him up.
Frowning, he kept his eyes averted as she told him the price and he took out his credit card to pay, already regretting what he was about to ask.
"Er, Nami, my sweet, would you mind too terribly much if we met for lunch Saturday, instead?"

against all odds
One: soulmates have complementary, matching patterns on their arms, like a sleeve tattoo. ao3.
When things have settled down, they return to Alabasta.
The country’s gates open up with a big warm welcome as they celebrate the return of their country’s savior and the new Pirate King. A huge feast is held at the center of the town square, and the joy seems to spread throughout the nation as Zoro walks past all the smiling faces of its citizens.
But the main event has never been that. In a quiet moment, shared between two women, the princess of Alabasta welcomes her soulmate home.
Zoro catches himself watching the whole proceeding — Nami smiling, wide wide wide , the tilt of her grin touches her eyes in the way it rarely does, and Vivi seems to mirror her joy with her own watery smile, warm and fond. They embrace each other in a hug, and when they part, Vivi lifts her right arm.
Vivi’s soulmark is as impressive as Zoro remembers — an array of pinwheels, tracing a pattern from her wrist up to her shoulder. The wheels are in different shades of oranges, and sometimes, when Zoro blinks just so, the wheels seem to turn and spin on its own. There are hints of blue on the edges, as blue as her hair, as blue as the sands on Nami’s arm, forming matching soulmarks they share for just the two of them.
Nami raises her arm in turn and presses her soulmark against Vivi’s. The pinwheel on Vivi’s arm seemingly coil against the sandy seas on Nami’s, and Zoro is suddenly distinctly aware of his own unmarked skin.
As if sensing his change of mood, Sanji edges closer, their shoulders pressing against one another’s, and Zoro’s gaze instinctively drops at Sanji’s arm at the touch.
It’s patternless, just like Zoro’s own.
It used to be much more difficult to catch a glimpse of Sanji’s markless skin; the Cook seems to wear layers and layers of clothings, suits and long-sleeved shirts and thick jackets, as if ashamed of his situation. Like the rest of the crew, though, Sanji has learned over the years to be more comfortable in his own skin.
“Zoro! Sanji!” Luffy suddenly calls out from among the crowd, a slab of large meat in between his teeth. “What are you guys standing around for! Let’s eat!”
Luffy waves his hands excitedly, and Zoro’s eye instinctively follows Luffy’s soulmarks — scorching red balls of fire, brilliant and bright on both of his arms. It still feels very Luffy , no matter how many times Zoro sees it — soulmates don’t have to be romantic partners, and it seems fitting for Luffy, to have not just one but both of his own brothers as his soulmates.
“We’ll catch up later!” Sanji shouts back.
Seemingly satisfied, Luffy launches himself towards another table full of food.
Zoro doesn’t think he’s a sentimental person — definitely not one compared to Sanji. He doesn’t contemplate much on what-ifs and what-could-have-beens. But in a world where soulmarks are ever-present, where most people were born with one, he couldn’t help but think, sometimes, what it would’ve been like to have a soulmate.
To have a soulmate who isn’t Sanji.
Zoro knows he would’ve still chosen Sanji over his soulmate, if he were ever to have one. This is not meant as a grand gesture of love or some form of dramatic sentimentality — it is simply a fact that he would choose Sanji as his partner, as his equal. He has done so and he would make the same decision, over and over again, in any version of reality. And if he were to have a soulmate, then, that would’ve been unfair to them, whoever they are.
And if Sanji were the one with the soulmate, well — Zoro is not so conceited to think that Sanji would’ve chosen him in favor of this imaginary person, but he knows Sanji would put the happiness of others before his own, would sacrifice his own happiness in a heartbeat. Zoro thinks it would kill Sanji, to be forced to choose something that would hurt others — be it his soulmate, or Zoro.
The thought sends an uncomfortable pang to his heart. Zoro rolls his shoulders, trying to physically shrug the feeling off, and nudges Sanji’s hand with his.
Sanji tangles their fingers together in response, a gesture that’s become natural between them over the years. Sanji tugs lightly, and doesn’t look away as he hums a questioning, “hn?”
“Nothing,” Zoro says, voice low, almost a whisper. “‘s just, I’m glad we don’t have a soulmate.”
The words came out clumsy, and for a split second Zoro’s afraid that Sanji would take it the wrong way. But then Sanji leans closer and rests his head on Zoro’s shoulder.
“Me too,” Sanji says, lips pressed onto the crook of Zoro’s neck, and tension bleeds from Zoro’s shoulders.
Zoro traces his fingers over Sanji’s arm, inkless pale skin untouched by the hands of fate, and makes a point to find time later. He will press kisses along the expanse of the skin then, when it’s just the two of them, to leave his marks, his own version of a promise the universe didn’t get to make — of forever, forever, forever.
