Some Thoughts on Aspec Identity, Pathologization, and Disability

A lot of asexual and aromantic activism involves dismantling the notion that being asexual and/or aromantic is NOT a mental illness or medical condition, and while this is 100% true, it’s important that we in the aromantic and asexual communities recognize how our community is intrinsically linked to the disabled community. The fact of the matter is that, even though there is nothing inherently pathological about aromanticism or asexuality, our identities have historically been pathologized by society and are still often pathologized to this day.

The very first time I heard the word “asexual” used in mainstream media was in 2012 in an episode of House M.D., titled “Better Half.” For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the episode featured a side plot where an asexual couple comes into the clinic for a bladder infection, and the protagonist, Dr. House, decides that he wants to find a “medical cause” for their asexuality. This isn’t entirely unusual for the show, since a major part of House’s character is that he’s somewhat of an asshole who says a lot of blatantly offensive things and attempts to find medical causes for anything and everything. However, what makes this notable is that the subplot was resolved by House actually finding a medical cause for the patient’s asexuality and curing him of said asexuality. It was then revealed that the patient’s wife had been lying about being asexual to make her husband happy.

This was before Yasmin Benoit (an alternative fashion model who is among the most prolific asexual and aromantic community activists) publicly came out as aroace. This was before Bojack Horseman and Koisenu Futari and the 2015 Jughead comics (i.e., the ones where Jughead is confirmed to be asexual). For many people, this episode of House M.D., where asexuals are portrayed as being either liars or people who can and should be “cured,” was their first exposure to the concept of asexuality.

While this was just one episode of one tv show, it is a symptom of a much larger issue relating to the pathologization of asexuality and aromanticism. Take, for example, Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) which was defined by the following criteria in the DSM IV-TR:

A — “persistently or recurrently deficient (or absent) sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity”

B — “marked distress or interpersonal difficulty.”

There are certainly plenty of cases where HSDD is unrelated to asexuality and is something that causes very real struggles for the person suffering from it; I won’t deny the experiences of these people by claiming that HSDD is “just asexuality” and shouldn’t be considered a disorder at all. The reason I bring up HSDD, however, is because it has often been used to pathologize asexual patients. It wasn’t until 2013 that the DSM-5 was released and changed the diagnostic criteria to include the caveat that “If a lifelong lack of sexual desire is explained by self-identification as ‘asexual,’ then a diagnosis of female sexual interest/arousal disorder would not be made.”

While this is a step in the right direction, the addition of this caveat has not people from pathologizing asexuality. A 2015 study (linked at the bottom of the post) by Dr. Lori A. Brotto, Morag A. Yule, and Dr. Boris B. Gorzalka notes that “Various theories have been proposed to explain how asexuality should best be classified, and some have maintained that asexuality is an extreme variant of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD)—a sexual dysfunction characterized by a lack of interest in sex and significant distress. To date, this has never been empirically examined.” (The study in question sought to empirically examine this very issue and found that “there are notable differences between AIS >40 individuals (those likely to identify as asexual) and those who meet diagnostic criteria for HSDD.”). Another article (also linked at the bottom of the post), which was written by Dr. Lori A. Brotto and Sonia Milani, states that “Various theories have been proposed to classify asexuality as a mental disorder, a sexual dysfunction, or a paraphilia.” This is all without even getting into older ideas like the concept of “sexual frigidity,” which also may have led to many asexual and aromantic people being seen as disordered.

While there is much less information on how aromanticism, specifically, has been pathologized, it’s pretty well known within the aromantic and asexual communities that people outside out our communities often group us together or consider aromanticism a subset of asexuality, so the pathologization of asexuality also affects the way aromantic people are perceived. Not to mention the fact that, historically, people who chose to remain single, and especially women who chose to remain single, were often seen as deviant or unnatural.

Regardless of whether or not we, as individuals, are actually disordered, we are often viewed as being disordered solely on the basis of our aspec identities. Furthermore, there is a lot of actual overlap between the aspec community and the disabled community. While similar research has not yet been conducted in relation to aromanticism (in fact, there is very little research at all on aromanticism), studies of asexuality have found some evidence that asexuality may be associated with both autism and schizoid personality disorder. (And, not to bring up anecdotal evidence or anything, but I have often noticed myself that the vast majority of people in online schizoid communities seem to be asexual, aromantic, or both.)

Additionally, disabled people, particularly those who are physically, intellectually, and/or developmentally disabled, are often desexualized by society and assumed by default to be incapable of having romantic and sexual relationships, experiencing sexual or romantic feelings, or understanding sex and romance. As a result, they are affected by many of the same stigmas as asexual and aromantic people, regardless of whether or not they’re aromantic and/or asexual (in addition to all the other forms of ableism that they face).

All this is to say that the asexual and aromantic communities share a lot of common ground with the disabled community. This makes it all the more important that we fight against ableism and stand in solidarity with our disabled siblings, both inside and outside aspec communities. Moreover, this makes it all the more important that we recognize the prevalence of disabled people in the asexual and aromantic communities and acknowledge the ways aspec identity and disability can intersect.

So, here’s to all the disabled aces and aros out there. Here’s to the disabled aspec people who have been treated as broken or pitied. Here’s to the nonpartnering disabled aspecs who need caretakers or otherwise can’t live alone and are struggling to navigate what that may mean for their futures. Here’s to disabled aspecs who do want a relationship, sexual, romantic, or otherwise, but who struggle not only with finding a partner who will accept their sexual/romantic orientation(s) but also with doing so with a disability that affects their relationships. Here’s to alloaros who want sexual partners but struggle with disability-related issues that affect their sex lives, such as touch aversion, incontinence (including ptsd induced bedwetting and bladder/bowel motor tics), body dysmorphia, fatigue, and/or limited mobility. Here’s to d/Deaf, hard of hearing, low vision, blind, and d/Deafblind aces and aros, who are sick of being treated as though they’re “missing out” in more ways than one on some “fundamental” part of the human experience, (namely sight and/or hearing and sex and/or romance). Here’s to the developmentally and intellectually disabled aces and aros who are tired of being treated like children as grown adults. Here’s to disabled aces and aros. You are wonderful and it is such a privilege to share a community with y’all.

oh boy ok coming of age recs I can do this. I haven't read any coming of age books since I was a teenager though so keep in my my memory of these are all hazy

the perks of being a wallflower by stephen chbosky - hallmarker of the coming of age genre, read this when I was 16 and cried, even if you've seen the movie I highly recommend the book

aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe by benjamin alire saenz - literally was one of my favorite books for so many years. I read it when I was 15 and became obsessed with it. I still look back on it so warmly it's just such a great book

it's kind of a funny story by ned vizzini - also read this one when I was like 16ish. I remembered enjoying it but not as much as the other two I've listed here. still very good though!

movies:

cha cha real smooth (2022) - actually one of my favorite coming of age films I've ever seen. it's a coming of age film about a guy in his early 20s instead of in his teens which is refreshing in its own. it hit particularly hard for me because I saw it when I was 22 and freshly graduated from college unsure what to do, the main character is 22 and freshly graduated from college unsure what to do. it's also a very unique setup and I really loved how they pulled it off

the edge of seventeen (2016) - this might be a controversial pick because the main character is actually pretty insufferable in this, but that's part of why I enjoyed it. the character is meant to be insufferable. she's a teenage girl dealing with the hell of being a teenage girl and she sucks! it's an intentional thing and it does it very well! I would say it still falls flat in some areas, but I'm mainly recommending it because it's so refreshing to have an mc genuinely be a shitty person

sing street (2016) - I count this as a coming of age movie but it's also kind of a music movie? it's incredibly fun no matter what. the songs are so catchy, the characters are all great, and the relationships are just all very well done

the kings of summer (2013) - genuinely why do I never hear anyone talk about this movie. I haven't seen it in so long but I remember it being incredibly funny with a great dose of summertime whimsy

hunt for the wilderpeople (2016) - tbh I never thought of this as a coming of age movie and it might be a bit different than most of the films on here but I was looking up lists of coming of age movies to try and remember which ones I've seen and I saw this one mentioned a few times. if you're a fan of taika waititi films, in my opinion this is his best one hands down. it's hilarious but also incredibly sweet and heartwarming at the same time

moonrise kingdom (2012) - very charming and storybook esque in the way all wes anderson films are, but with a really sweet story between two kids at its core. again, different from most of the ones on this list, but definitely an enjoyable one all the same

hi pip!!!!!! fallen london is a text-based browser game, set in an alternate history victorian london, where queen victoria sold the city of london to a bunch of giant bat aliens, who moved it into a giant underground cave. its free to play!! ive been playing it since like. 2012? 2013 maybe? it's been a loooong time

anyway, I shared the premise of Pidgin and a little excerpt in another ask, so instead I'll say that "pidgin" is a language* that develops between two or more groups who do not know each others language but need to communicate. i picked the title because one of the characters in the fic is deaf (late-deafened in an industrial accident, raised Hearing) and the other is a squid man, who communicates primarily with a book of pictures (and has occasionally had interpreters)

*pidgins are not considered by linguists to be full languages in their own right, usually due to their limited vocabulary. one of the thing that makes a language a LANGUAGE is the ability to discuss any topic, and pidgins are generally not equipped to do this. sometimes pidgins develop into creoles, which ARE a full language

2010: I have my first girlfriend

2011: I graduate high school and attend college moving from Illinois to Iowa, making a number of lifelong friends in the early months

2019: family life becomes so stressful I am forced to move out of my grandfather’s house

December 16, 2022: Avatar Way of Water releases

I’ll be 30 this coming year. It has been 12yrs, 11mo, and 29 days between Avatar films. 410,140,800 seconds. It is an interesting feeling to come back to a world depicted on screen after so much time has passed, very nearly half the amount of time I’ve been alive.

My initial impressions of Avatar Way of Water is that if you enjoyed living in the world of Pandora in the first movie and would love some more adventures in Pandora you will enjoy the second movie. If you liked the tighter moviegoing experience the first offered you will feel a little let down. I don’t think this is a bad movie by any means, nor is it a mediocre movie. It is good. It just isn’t as tightly crafted as the original movie was.

God knows, it’s been so long most movies have been remade since then. Or revived under new premises a la Fantastic Beasts (which is a whole other animal to tackle). But I fully understand I’m coming to Way of Water with an entire kit of analytical skills I did not have when I watched the first movie, and this will impact my enjoyment of the second and let me look back fondly on the first.

Thinking between these two, not much has changed. Humans are one note greedy, comfortably made into cannon fodder for thrilling fight sequences. The navi are in tune with nature, peaceful, someone we can root for without complicated emotions. We have a new McGuffin or item everyone wants but it gets a back seat to the grudge match that takes importance over it. And rightfully so.

This is a movie that wants to do a lot of things in the three hours and twelve minutes it runs for. I’m not sure it is successful in all of them, feeling a bit like Star Wars Episode IX in that scenes run fast and loose, a little too loose in some places. The ending especially felt that fervent pace and could not slow down where it really needed to and let some scenes sit for more than a few seconds, instead summarizing via voice over because with 20-30mins of trailers frontloading this your audience has been sitting for four hours and we gotta get👏this👏shit👏going.

This movie s a Star Wars in that its science fantasy and don’t worry we can just make computer chip copies of your brain. It’s also a Toy Story 3, we’ve aged up the characters and moved their lives along to reflect the aging audience who first watched Avatar. It’s also a Star Trek IV where we’re saving the whales. This movie is trying to be a lot of things in 3hrs 12mins. Roughly, it succeeds.

There is a lot to be charmed by in the world of Pandora. It is a different kind of movie because in describing it, the movie acts more like an immersive experience with the viewer so I wouldn’t say “characters do X Y and Z” but you as the audience get to “make friends with a whale” and “learn to ride alien dolphins”. It is a world that continues to be lovingly crafted, like sitting in dnd with a dm who has laid out so much of their own lore and worldbuilding its just a delight to immerse yourself in.

Even when it is unfocused Avatar Way of Water is far and away a better experience than so many other theater movies. It’s drop dead gorgeous, and it doesn’t mind getting its hands dirty in that new aquatic environment immersing scenes in and out of water with ease. If you enjoy escapism I absolutely recommend seeing it while it’s in theaters, preferably IMAX.

A lot has changed since the first Avatar dropped 12 years 11 months and 29 days ago. Well, longer now, writing this on January 2nd. This movie is a comfortable return to the world of Pandora with uncomplicated premises and setups that do not challenge the viewer. It is a movie made by an action movie director with a long resume of quality work. If you bothered reading through my ramblings you likely have already made up your mind on whether or not you’d enjoy such a thing. I give a recommendation to seeing it, I love fantasy, I love escapism, and I love the world of Pandora. I am always down to revisit this chapter and will be excited to see later movies. Is it perfect? God no. There’s alien jesus, major death retcons, silly pacifism philosophies, its got flaws. But I do enjoy the quality of the world it gives me. Its one of the few things that can instill a sense of childlike wonder in myself and I treasure that sensation greatly.

how  long  have  you  been  writing  [ character ] ?

10 years by now! had him as a character concept since 2012 and brought him to tumblr in 2013. yeah its really been that long--

do  you  prefer  extensive  plotting ,  or  writing  things  on  a  whim ?

it really depends. ive had amazing rps come out of things that we winged, but ive had plenty more experiences of on the spot rps dying out quickly because of a lack of direction. on the flip side, ive had fully plotted rps that did really well and went a long time, but ive also have plenty of fully plotted rps that stagnated because because the excitement of an element of uncertainty is lost if you know exactly how a situation is going to play out between two characters. i gotta be careful sometimes not to spill *too* many beans but at the same time,  i dont wanna withhold all my ideas from my rp partners either!

it ultimately depends on what works best for my partner and me. i know this probs sounds very ...basic roleplay common sense but its a common pitfall ive fallen into while plotting and writing with people, so i try to be aware of the ways my rp partners roleplay that turn out to be the most successful for them.

for me personally, i prefer a mix of both: i like a basic plot or idea to go off of and give some general direction and purpose to the roleplay, but i rather not establish a plot so thoroughly that theres little wiggle room or it becomes predictable. part of the fun of roleplay, for me, is not always knowing how my partner's character is going to react to a given situation. roleplay is more exciting when theres an element of suspense or unknown to how the characters are interacting together or how their journey is going to end up. even if its a pre-established relationship or dynamic, i like knowing theres the freedom for the roleplay to evolve into something greater than we originally imagined.

Hello, dear Anon and welcome ^-^ It's weird you naturally called me Lady Connor, as usually only my little fairy @giuliettaluce does. Well, I guess her magic put a spell on everybody here!!

If you really care to know, I'll answer, but brace yourself, it's going to be very long, almost an essay, because I can be very detailed about that comic being a failure in its every part. There's so much to say. You're right, as I mentioned before, it can trigger me, but I have attentively analized it and I know it makes not a single atom of sense. So nothing can actually bother me that much, don't worry ^_-

First of all, my general consideration of the AC Reflections comic issue #4, (yeah, that thing -.-) is that of a mere attempt to desperately make Bayek's remote vision through Senu's eyes a canon feature. It was created and published in 2017, the same year AC Origins was released and yes, they needed an excuse to make believe Connor's alleged daughter inherited a skill someone (who isn't even their direct ancestor!!) that lived 1700 years ago in ancient Egypt had! OMG, this should be funny enough, but I'll go on. Also, I think it was likely a carelessly arranged way to satisfy those AC3 fans demanding a "happy ending" for unlucky Connor (quite 5 years later, of course).

I'll better go step by step to figure out where to start from, seriously.

1) In the comic, when Otso Berg opens the file related to Connor, the scene is set in "1796: Upstate New York." Now this is chronologically and spacially incoherent and illogical. We see Connor still wears his assassin outfit in it, right? According to AC Initiates (2012) in 1804 Connor invites the Dominican assassin Eseosa at the Davenport homestead to provide him some advices and further training as he's involved in the leading of the Haitian Revolution. That's a really cool character, read about him, if you want!

So, until then Connor is still an assassin, probably the mentor (by now) of the Colonial Brotherhood. He still runs the homestead and he still commands the Aquila, I guess, he's the captain still. I calculated the distance between the homestead and the then upper NY frontier territories is approximately 260 miles (quite far nowadays with cars and planes as well). Then, why the hell should he have a family located in the forest upstate NY? It sounds very unconfortable to run back and forth to reach them and go back to take care of all the Brotherhood matters, doesn't it? Unless he knew about teleportation!!! Also, wow, he lives all alone in a nice massive villa with all the comforts of that time while his children and wife still live in a Native village constantly menaced by settlers wanting to steal their land? Beside the fact that Connor, at least in my point of view, seemed at last very familiar with european way of living by the end of the game, this leads us to the next point.

2) By the time the game and the comic are set (second half of 18th century), most of the East Coast Native tribes were facing the tragic and forced migration to western and northern territories (mostly towards Canada, protected by the British) because of all the consequences of the Revolutionary War (lost territories, failed alliances, settlers advancing and buying their lands and so on). So tells us history, unfortunately. It's a fact. And this is wisely showed to us in the AC3 main game when, after all the Kanien'kehá:ka tribes had left the territory around Connor's village (yes, even those near New York, to be clear) even Connor's own tribe at last migrates west, leaving an empty ghost village. They had remained all along to protect the secret temple, but in the end they as well were forced to leave. So, to me it's highly improbable that in upstate NY, one could still find a tribe and even if so, that Connor would let his family live there and risk their safety everyday.

3) The whole comic plot revolves around the fact that Io:nhiòte has a "special gift"... She inexplicably knows how to read the ground and find animal traces, she also can perform a perfect twisted acrobatic flip in the air and land unharmed to the ground. Do we know why? No, don't ask! xD She simply knows U.U, even if right after the next scene she slips and falls miserably down a cliff xD, but... ok!! Beside that, when Connor is far away to search for some water and is about to be attacked by a wolf hidden in the grass nearby, she sees the whole scene from the eyes of an eagle flying in the sky above her. As I said before, this reminds us of Bayek's (never clearly explained) ability to see through his eagle Senu's eyes and spot dangers and enemies. Now can you tell me why the hell this little girl has super powers and a skill Bayek had? As I said, they are not even directely related, as Bayek is not one of Desmond Miles' ancestor, we know him simply because Layla's new Animus is magical and can inexplicably read fragmented DNA from people who died a thousand years ago (it can also prepair coffee, I think!). So, where did she get that from? Magic? Mysteries of life? Convenient improbable connections for marketing's sake? We'll never know and you should simply accept that and ask no question!

4) From her height, way of speaking/moving/running, I assume Io:nhiòte is at least 8 years old, 8 - 9 minimum. She's the youngest of three siblings, who must be at least two years older than her and than each other (according to a human woman pregnancy timing!). If the comic events are set 12 years after the main game ending (1784, when Connor also starts to train the young ex-slave Patience Gibbs, arriving at the Davenport homestead with Aveline De Grandpré, according to AC IV Black Flag bonus mission with Aveline), so, this means that in that same year Connor must have found hastily the love of his life in a Native village (as if he was easy to open himself with other people after all he's been through), married her, impregnated her and seen her give birth to their first child, all in the same year when (let's not foget! xD) he still is the leader of the Colonial Assassin Brotherhood at the Davenport homestead training novices. Now, this may even be possible humanly speaking, (well, if you force the things a bit and hurry up!) but highly unlikely to happen!! xD

These are the main problems affecting the logic of the comic in my opinion, the points making its foundations crumble apart. Though I'm sure there are many little others to point out, such as Otso Berg "opening" Connor's files... like what? Where did those data come out from? I remember playing AC IV Black Flag and uncovering a file where Abstergo researchers themselves closed access to his memories as there was "nothing appealing to this character anymore"! So, if no more researches were conducted on him since 2013, where did Mr Berg magically or conveniently discovered such data in 2017?

Or... do we want to talk about the cover? It shows Connor in the spirit outfit from the Tyranny of King Washington DLC, which has apparently nothing to do with the comic, since it is set in his present day and he wears his assassin standard robe. Now, I think that can be either a simple marketing choice to make the comic more appealing, as... well, that cover is so cool, let's admit that, or maybe the subtle suggestion that the events told in it are just a parallel Disney-like reality and are not to be considered true at all! xD i don't know, maybe both explanations are right.

I'm sure that the deeper i dig, the more nothing rational I'll find!

If you played the old games, if you know well the franchise and its lore, the true, good, old AC lore, you definitely realize by yourself how that comic is useless and senseless.

This doesn't mean I do not wish an "happy ending" for Connor. But I'd rather accept something coherent with the main game events and AC chronology. Also, it doesn't necessarily needs to be a "happy" ending, as they conveniently created to please complaining fans. I wished for something real... coherent with his personality, acquired life-style and endless sense of duty and values.

Maybe that's what pushed me to write my FanFic novel in the first place, after all... To give him MY OWN cohesive ending, including my love, for love is always needed, I guess.

ive now filled in metadata on almost all of my music library with the exception of 9 (ok 8 now) tracks ive been completely unable to locate the source of

most of them are from tumblr but ive already gone through every audio post in my archive and didnt find any of them which tells me either i downloaded them without reblogging or the posts were somehow deleted without my knowledge (ive heard of that thing happening? idk) (also i couldve just overlooked them, there were a lot of posts to go through after all). anyway if i cant find them that way then i cant find them at all on tumblr because the search function is total garbage, especially for anything that isnt recent (which is all of this)

vi. WHY TOTOSAI?!

I roleplayed as Kagome back in 2012 but had very little interactions with the previous community at the time. I was too discouraged to even try to tackle roleplaying as Inuyasha or any of the other characters as I felt like I identified with Kagome more at the time. (Though, I didn’t reach out as I was too shy). So, I created this blog initially as a fucking joke. 

I tormented partners with asks and replied to all open starters because it was a joke! Before, I could hardly care about Totosai as he was a side character (GASP) Now, however...I can’t get enough of himmmm.

I invested time into researching more about the old guy as much as the internet can allow me. I eventually began to cherish this muse and all he stood for. I was hooked. 

Once revived, I immediately remembered why I love roleplaying in this community so much. I love to make others laugh! I love it. I really do.

Eventually, I mustered up the courage to roleplay as one character I’ve always felt too scared to portray and that was Inuyasha. It was because of Totosai, I was able to find the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and begin taking on Inuyasha as a muse (you can find him here)! 

So in short, Totosai will always have a place in my heart forever and ever <3

honestly they’ve come a long way from their first incarnations

i made these like a year ago so there has been slight altercations to their designs since then but yeah they are hardly the same characters they were before. i think really the only thing about them that hasn’t changed is their names. their stories were also wildly different and had nothing to do with each other. the progression that’s shown in their designs actually begins in 2012-2013, so i’ve had these characters for like 6-7 years. they’ve had a lot of room to change and grow. also i know that’s the pagan moon symbol behind simon, but he has nothing to do with the moon or paganism, i just didn’t realize what i had done until i was done drawing

donovan, instead of being the angel of the night sky, used to be like a bounty hunter for heaven and simon was just like . edgy i guess. can’t remember his exact purpose. i actually used to use these two in like roleplays with my friends,  but i fell off of that when i was like 15 and ive basically been trying to redo their characters since then. 

often times they sort of function as one character; whenever i want to write about donovan’s personality, i think about how it might mesh with simon’s personality and vice versa. unfortunately i don’t get to pay a lot of attention to them so i haven’t completely worked them out but they are getting........ somewhere

the universe that they are apart of has also been under construction since 2013. it doesn’t even have a name yet and im still trying to work out the rules of the universe, so until then they just have their backstory and that’s about it, other than some cute tidbits about them like

simon being a hardcore flirt, much to donovan’s embarrassment

i think i mentioned this once before, but they met because donovan hit simon with his truck. simon is immortal, however, so while donovan was panicking simon was just like “wow you have the most beautiful eyes ive ever seen”

donovan used to be scared of thunderstorms until he met simon

a lot of their dates took place in the bed of donovan’s truck, mostly stargazing in any secluded place they could find 

so when donovan was diagnosed with cancer, he already knew simon was immortal and a thunder, they had also been together for a few years. he thought it would be best if simon moved on without him (as they both knew that day would come anyway) and began to try and distance himself from his other. when simon wouldn’t back off, donovan started to get mad, as much as it pained him to try and let simon go.

they had an argument, and finally simon relented and was like “ok, but can i please get one last kiss?” 

so they kissed BUT there was a crack of thunder and suddenly they were together in the night sky and donovan was like “WHAT did you do”

simon explained that he had already asked his family for permission to make donovan immortal, so he just decided to do that. however, donovan was pissed because 1) you didnt leave me alone when i asked you to and 2) he was a school teacher on earth. he had siblings and parents and kids at his school that would wonder where he went. how could he have done this?

simon, in his immortal mind, neglected to think about this and they actually didn’t speak for a few years. donovan was mad mad, but simon understood. he acted selfishly and gave donovan the space that he needed

eventually simon was able to help donovan see his family again with the help of his thunder family and they slowly started building their relationship back up to the point that it was, and that’s where they are in their current timeline

also donovan can’t cook but simon might as well be remy from ratatouille

Games of the Decade

Well, I love ranking games and I almost forgot that we are nearing the end of the 2010s, so I thought I’d list my favorite games from each year of the decade! These are not necessarily games that came out that year, but just games I played for the first time that year that I loved!

2010: Pokemon Platinum I bought a DS and got back into the Pokemon world in 2010, and while I sometimes see some Gen IV hate, Platinum was a game I thoroughly enjoyed 2011: Pokemon Stadium 2 This was at the height of the tournaments I hosted, and Stadium 2 was the game I really got all my hardcore practice on. It does a great job of giving players varying levels of difficulty, and I loved trying new strategies against the relatively difficult AI. 2012: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time After years of hating on Zelda, I gave Ocarina of Time a second chance and really enjoyed it! 2012 was actually a pretty thin year, video game-wise, but this game did change my opinion on Zelda. 2013: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Still my favorite Zelda game, the time travel/time loop story is just really interesting to me. Additionally, it was the first time I really ever played a game that stirred my emotions. 2014: Super Mario World Another relatively thin year for me, and while it was far from the first time I ever played this game, it was the first time I ever gave it my full attention and focused on beating it. It stands out as a fantastic Mario game and platformer, and I totally understand why so many people consider it the greatest Mario game of all time, even if I think Mario 3 beats it out by a hair. 2015: Super Smash Bros for Wii U There really had to be a Smash game on this list, didn’t there? I can recognize Ultimate as the superior game in most regards, but I had so much more fun when Smash 4 was the new game on the block. @boner-taunt and I played doubles online three or four times a week, for hours each time, and it was just so much fun learning new characters like Palutena and Duck Hunt, in addition to old favorites like Jigglypuff and Peach. 2016: Fire Emblem Awakening I downloaded the demo on a whim, and really enjoyed the basic gameplay, which was a huge surprise to me since I had never played any strategy games before, and had rarely played any JRPGs at all.  2017: Chrono Cross The biggest surprise of any game I’ve ever played, I was completely blown away by Chrono Cross on every level. There is a reason people so often claim that this is the greatest soundtrack in video game history, and I sometimes think that boner-taunt is still surprised that I not only got into JRPGs after so long, but that it was this game, of all games, that won me over, given how it is far from a “beginner’s JRPG.” 2018: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC I usually lump this in with FC (since that stands for first chapter and second chapter), but if I had to pick just one game, it would be SC. FC ends on a cliffhanger, and SC resolves it as well as expanding upon everything. It’s hard for me to really put into words how much I love this series, but maybe I can sum it up by saying it made me not only start a new Tumblr for it, but also start hosting a podcast along with @vanilluxite. Play this dang game series! 2019: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III Well, I guess it makes sense that this would be game of the year, but if you need to read my review of it, you can find it here.

SO here are few list of high school drama I have watched! (no particular order ) Well not many new romance school dramas were done so that’s why mostly you would find old ones :

1. School 2017 - 16 episodes (2017)

Though it may not have a great story line, first half is really enjoying and unpredictable in the plot-wise but later on it just lacks a bit of story… But romance and acting wise if was fantastic esp the lead chemistry was just amazing ( kim se jong and kim junghyun’s acting omg!) that if i got bored i would skip to their scenes. Other than that even the other characters in drama are also to be looked out for. It also deals bit on bullying in Korean society like most of high-school dramas do.

2. Sassy Go Go / Cheer Up - 12 episodes  (2015)

Cheer Up! is a drama revolving around cheer-leading club in a school which focuses more on achievements based  on academic scores.( they were supposed to show more about cheer-leading tho in the drama but not as much as I expected).But the plot-line was really good and since its a short drama wasn’t draggy at all. I really loved jisoo’s and eunji’s acting. The cast was what made watch this ( Eunji, Jisoo , chae soobin ) but I ended up falling for the story and the drama.. Romance is also great amost the lead while I had SLS (nvm I almost always have lol when it’s jisoo except in swdbs but hyungsik stole my heart in swdbs :p)

3. Reply 1997 - 16 episodes (2012)

I know this is old drama ‘(2012 is quite old )but if you haven’t watched it you should definitely check it out.( even all 3 series tho not all are high school related and the story is different too  )Because the narrative itself is quite different compared to other kdramas. I absolutely love Eunji as shi ahn who is a fangirl of a boyband H.O.T. and Seo in guk as Yoon jae her childhood friend and his brother. About romance it had a quite a good amount and was really one satisfying drama I’ve watched… Oh and one more thing because the story is a narrative sort of the story is set in 1990′s and cinematography is also like that.. It’s quite funny too won’t tell much but do give it a try :)

4. A-TEEN - Webdrama (2018)

This is not a usual 1hr long 16 episode kdrama but rather awebdrama 10 - 12 min each of total 23 episode availiable on youtube. It dealswith how even 18 years old have problems they aren’t problem free be it inschool or anywhere else.I enjoyed their friendship more than anything.also hasa quirky romance in it.[ Btw the actress is shin ye eun ( from he ispsychometric ) ] You can give this a try whenever you have time but its reallynice one and actors are all are new but they really did their job well.

5. Moorim School - 16 episodes  (2016)

If you’re up for a action romance then you should definitely watch this! It is set up in a martial art school where students learn about their true self. Overall story is good and love line was like roller-coaster ride for few times to me …

But acting wise almost everyone did their job well .. I truly like lee hyunwoo and seo ye ji ( though sometimes i felt it was off ) and hongbin also did good job almost like that character was written just for him :)

 6. Who are you? / School 2015 - 16 episode (2015)

I had my major SLS with sungjae’s characters Every alternate year after  School 2013 became successful we have school series lol so I guess we may get school 2019 this year?

7.The Heirs - 20 episodes (2013)

I personally didn’t like it but many of my friends have liked it so I added it here ( sometimes I can be the odd one in the group) Lee hongki’s soundtrack is one of my fav ost until now

8. Boys over Flowers - 25 episodes (2009)

I had felt it was waste of 25 hours watching this rather than that I would watch the original Japanese drama better… Because that’s just 10 or 12 episodes.. I specially didn’t like Jan Di’s character while I had loved that character tsukushi in original drama in japan. But as you may know this is one such drama which is almost everyone’s first drama. (PS: Gu jun pyo’s hair is so lol )

9. Playful Kiss - 16 episodes (2010)

Same like the BOF I like Japanese original better (Itazura Na kiss ) 

10. To the Beautiful You - 16 episodes (2012)

Again another remake from jdrama hana kimi but  I really liked this adaptation when I had watched  because of cuties lee hyunwoo,minho and kang haneul..  and the friendship element was portrayed quite fine. But now if I want to watch this I would rather pass nevertheless it’s a cute drama. I love the soundtracks in this drama! 

Other dramas without much romance :

School 2013 ,( no romance but plot is really good lee jong suk and kim woo bin did a great job here )

Dream High and Dream High 2.

I think there are very few high school drama in Korean(maybe I have watched less) but japan has loads of them lol but you can try watching the original of boys over flowers ( hana yori dango in japan) and to the beautiful you (hana kimi). Cdrama a love so beautiful (2018) is really a cute drama too :) ]

Very recently I watched a Thriller set up in high school jdrama called 3 nen A gumi it was so freaking awesome esp the plot twist ! I wish to see some kind of dramas like that in Korea too.

Anyway this looks more like review than recommendation lol sorry for long post

honestly if anything tumblr rp has improved a lot since the days i first started interacting on here in like....2012/2013. i moved from rping on deviantart chatrooms to tumblr rp. tumblr rp has changed a lot since then, it's gone through a lot of fads and trends and ive witnessed a lot of drama, either being caught up in the whirlwind of it or looking from the sidelines.

in some fandoms, it was drama like every week. people weren't very welcoming. very cliquey (and i dont mean like 'oh these people are just a friend group' i mean like 'you cant sit with us' making group chats just to talk shit about people in the rpc mean girl type shit), very gatekeepy, anon hate was rampant, lots of unnecessary call out posts and just....a lot of double standards. people were weird about ocs and shipping (especially among female ocs and queer ships?? i mean they still are kinda weird about it but at least its being acknowledged nowadays), canon purism was very common in some fandoms to the point people with ocs that challenged the canon in any way were shunned. in fact the way people used to treat ocs was abysmal, especially ocs based off a canon work that are anything but the most blank slates of blank slates (how dare you make your oc interact with the canon in any meaningful way!! mary sue!!)

looking back it honestly wasn't a healthy environment for young writers, but at the same time i did learn a lot about setting boundaries, not giving a shit what people think about 99 percent of the shit you do, and learning to have fun despite whatever dumpster fire may be going on behind the scenes ooc between people.

it was obvious then that the rp community was partly like that because it's main demographic was made up of teenagers at the time, most of the people i interacted with were 15-19, i was also a dumb teenager, we had a lot of learning to do when it came to interacting on the internet, treating people with respect, setting boundaries, figuring out our identities and morality and such things. now that a lot of people within the rpc have grown up both physically and mentally, and it shows. yeah, every once in a while youll come across an rper or a group of rpers who act like theyve never mentally left high school, but its easy to pinpoint those types and avoid them because they seem to always be surrounded by a tidal wave of drama and negativity and not seem to care.

the rpc overall, is a much more positive place now tho, and i would never ever wanna go back to the ''''good old days'''' of tumblr rp. sure youll still get people sending weird or hateful anons, but its no where on the level of years ago. sure, you still get people slut shaming fictional characters and the muns attached to them, but most people within the rpc are quick to call that shit out. also people seem to be much more aware of stuff like avoiding white washing characters, doing their research, and being more receptive to learning from their mistakes. yeah, its infinitely better now. is it perfect? no, no community is, but damn if you were here during 2014-2016 rp you know how bad it could get in some communities. i still have friends who have sworn off roleplay on tumblr because of bad experiences during that era of tumblr rp. and i honestly feel for them because some of the shit that happened to them really sucked (like constant bullying,stalking, doxxing) but...i havent encountered anything like that on a mass scale across the rpc in a loooong time.

ive been drawing for quite a while. and looking through my old art, i found ive been drawing online for a whole flippin decade. wow.

so here’s 10 drawings ive done over the last 10 years, with commentary. it’s a long one, though, so be careful.

2010:

I had to dig through my deviantart for these first two. This pikachu is the first thing i ever posted online! i remember drawing this in ms paint with a mouse. i remember being very proud of this, and in a way, i still think it’s cute. it has a “drawing my kid done that i hung on a fridge’ vibe. 

i didn’t do much around this time. i barely knew how the internet worked, and i mainly read instead of drawing. i did some pokemon sprite edits though, for some reason. i remember really liking doing that.

2011:

i’m pretty sure i drew this mew in gimp. also with a mouse, because i had no idea tablets existed. ive always been super into pokemon, and around this time i think i was watching a lot of mickey mouse cartoons? it’d explain the weird style. 

i’m impressed with the shading, though. i did the best with what i knew, and what i could figure out on my own. not pictured is the hundreds of mickey sketches i did around this time, or the self insert oc i made lol.

2012: oh no it’s pony time. i spent about 5 years drawing primarily these things. kinda wish i hadn’t in hindsight, but ah well.

i had this program on my ds that i could draw and post my art on, and i was using it a lot around this time. a lot of my art has this sketchy look to it, because of that. i remember i had quite a few followers on it, or at least i think i did. i dunno if that website still exists, or if anyone even uses it anymore.

but anyways, this drawing is super cute. ya can’t go wrong with a sleeping pone. i forgot the cutie mark, tho. i always forget minor important details like that. either that or i drew her as a filly. can’t remember.

2013: yeah, i think this as vent art? can’t remember, but i drew it on that same program. i put a lot of effort into the perspective. this was based on my room at the time, btw.

2014: i believe this was for a new artist’s training grounds on eqd. i must’ve had a tablet by now, cause i can see tapering in the lineart. it was a big deal for me, and it sucks that i can’t remember what the first ting i drew with it was. i think it was some sketches.

but you can definitely see some improvement by now. i was really getting used to drawing this one thing. but a lot of people following me seemed to like my art back then. it was called cute, and expressive and cartoony. 

i think this was around the time i was at my best, as far as notes and interaction goes. 

2015: *megalovania intensifies*

i was super into undertale at the time. and 2014-15 was when i started to try and draw other things aside from ponies. you cal tell my poses and anatomy is mega awkward and kinda bad here, but this was a major improvement for me. 

2016: i was a fan of steven universe since it first aired, but i very rarely drew fanart for it. but as i was getting more comfortable with drawing peole, i got more ambitious with the characters i tried to draw.

i also from around this point on tried to get better at traditional art. and i think this was the first inktober i tried, but i don’t think it was the first i finished.

i really liked this drawing. and i may or may not have a wip redraw of this going on right now. wish me luck!

2017: KNOOOOOXXXXX I LOVE YOU, YOU PRECIOUS BOI

this is my favorite drawing. i peaked here and i will never be as good and pure as this single icon i did. it’s purple, he’s happy, it’s PASTEL AND SPARKES!!!!

i also got super into bendy and the ink machine this year, which sparked a renewed interest in trying to improve in drawing, and also led me to create my favorite oc ever.

i think i improved a lot around this time. my shapes and anatomy became cleaner and more consistent. on a technical level, i think this is where i started getting really good as an artist.

2018: i don’t think i improved a lot this year. i honestly feel like ive stagnated since then, and depression hasn’t helped. 

it’s a tough choice between this and the hollow knight drawing for best drawing of the year, but this is my personal favorite. sorry, mm, but mickey will always win out in my opinion. i know ya liked the other one though, and it’s also really good. 

i like how this turned out, and i’m so glad it’s got the most notes of anything else ive drawn. it’s pretty, and i love the style. this is how i wish i drew all the time.

2019: and finally we have this.

i don’t care how poorly this did. i was proud of myself for doing this. it’s cute and pretty and i like it. I created a vague story where she’s a little astronomer who’s like, caged for some reason, but now she’s free.

in hindsight, i think i coulda done a lot better, but i still like it. it’s one of my favorites that ive done this year. i wish i drew more this year, but the last few months ive been super depressed. it’s been hard to want to draw anything, and i feel so uncreative and mediocre. 

i’m hoping next year i’ll be better, and i’ll have stuff in my personal life more sorted out, and i won’t feel as bad.

this was nice, though. i’m glad i looked through my old art. maybe i’ll figure out what i’m missing, and get back on track. and maybe i’ll finish these wips i have going on lol. we’ll see.
