Ri comment: I don't think I can even begin to go into how much I love this fic, I'm a sucker for a good genderswap, and honestly anything written by pennydaniels in this sense is insane!! As for the fic itself it's so interesting, gender plays an important role in the story. The simple change of changing yzy and jfm's genders and how the narrative is built around that, is just chefs kiss. I'm not quiet sure what else to say that wouldn't be me spoiling the whole fic, just know it takes you on a roller-coaster, and despite only doing a 3rd reread recently the tiny little details that connect to characters beliefs and such is just mwah! Love this fic

I really do wish this line from Lan Wangji wasn't translated so blasé for English, since the connotations of "awful or hateful are harsher than it should, since the actual misunderstanding there is Lan Wangji thinking that Wei Wuxian mispoke on purpose to be annoying and uncaring regarding others or their circumstances.

A person like Lan Wangji might shed tears only a few times in his life, but it just had to occur at such a time with Wei Wuxian there. He hated seeing others shed tears. If he saw a girl in tears, he would walk up and coax them, tease them, until their cries turned into laughter. But a mans tears were even more indecipherable. He always felt that the tears of a usually strong man were more terrifying than accidentally seeing a well-behaved girl bathing, he couldn't just walk up to comfort either one.

Lan Wangji had taken many blows — to his home being burned down, his entire family being prosecuted, his father in danger of death, his brother missing, and his body suffering from injuries, any comfort would seem feeble in comparison.

讨厌 tǎo yàn can be taken as loathsome, but it's very situational and defining in context to mean someone is acting as such to be disagreeable or annoying towards others. It's also a very poignant usage with how Madam Yu and Jiang Cheng constantly do say Wei Wuxian is and acts towards them. It is meant to be an echo of their words and how Jiang Cheng constantly has reminded Wei Wuxian during that summer Lan Wangji doesn't like him and finds him annoying. He is easy to come across as mocking, cruel and troublesome towards others. This is on the cusp of Wei Wuxian genuinely wanting to comfort and make Lan Wangji lighten up, right after how he joked with Mianmian and to do the same with Lan Wangji. It is also a misunderstanding from Lan Wangji's own part to think Wei Wuxian is being friendly to later be cruel to anyone he speaks with or is disregarding how others will react to him.

Wei Wuxian thinks he did say something cruel, while Lan Wangji believes the worst in Wei Wuxian's words and actions at the time. Both can be seen as a logical conclusion without actual communication between the two, and the longstanding issue between each other until they say what they mean.

renn faire STARTER call!! 

please hit the replies and lmk who you want a starter from and which of your muses you’d like it for. no cap for anyone for now! im lowkey busy this weekend so i want to get these written & queued before then, if i can.

here’s what my crew will be up to during the little mini-event:

wei wuxian will primarily be showing off his archery skills, but he’ll probably also do a little browsing of the shopping stalls here or there to pick out gifts for people (starters for: lan jingyi, legolas, wen qing, jiang cheng, ??)

✅ martin blackwood will be hanging around the arts and crafts booths, since that’s where he had the best time during the winter event. he will probably also be talked into wearing small costume pieces but not a full outfit (starters for: claire novak, the twelfth doctor, regulus black, jeyne poole, eddie munson, ??)

yuri plisetsky will spend 15 minutes here and then want to go home (starters for: evie grimhilde, lizzie midford, jasper hale, ??)

✅ orpheus will be taking the tarot card and palm readings probably too seriously, and he’ll be hanging around the live performances to catch some of the acts! he’ll be wide-eyed and excited about everything (starters for: prince eric, beth greene, annabeth chase, anya romanov, ??)

pippin took will definitely be renting a full knight costume, because it looks cool, and then will be spending a lot of time drinking in the pop-up taverns with the people dressed as pirates (starters for: omega, hallie parker, will byers, legolas, annie, ??)

✅ wen kexing will be judging people’s cheap attire while fully dressed in his different period, non-renaissance clothes lmfao and will also be trying to chat up all of the vendors (starters for: zhang chengling, zhou zishu, ??)

✅ ki yu ri will think she is too cool for the renn faire tbh (starters for: soo oh, ??)

✅ noah czerny will probably find himself at the facepainting booth or spending most of his time hyping up the people trying to win prizes at the games stalls (starters for: toph beifong, princess bubblegum, ??)

✅ xie lian will want to try some of the treats and go on a few of the rides, and also probably end up collecting scraps/trash if any catch his eye. he’ll also want to try some of the swordfighting, and he used to swallow swords as a busker so that kind of entertainment will be fun to revisit and maybe try again (starters for: hua cheng, sophie hatter, howl jenkins pendragon, ??)

✅  blathers finds this all incredibly exciting because the european renaissance was one of the most interesting periods in the human history of this world !!!!! and so what if the renn faire is not 100% historically accurate !! he will probably be found talking the ear off anyone who will give him the time of day (starters for: dale cooper, rowena ravenclaw, rhaegar targaryen, ??)

✅  he xuan will be eating everything in sight, as per usual. he will 99% refuse to wear a costume (starters for: beelzebub, ??)

✅  sha hualing will probably blend in based on what she normally wears... lmfao... but i’m sure she’ll be busy enough heckling the knife and axe throwers (starters for: san, ??)

✅  liu qingge will be swordfighting. he will be finding people to fight, with his sword. it’s probably going to be the best day he’s had since he’s gotten here, tbh. i wouldn’t be surprised if he tried jousting as well. he will 100% misunderstand that the purpose is “entertainment” (starters for: zagreus, isabelle lightwood, xiao xingchen, ??)

✅  loid forger doesn’t really do ‘fun’ or ‘recreation’ so he probably won’t go to the faire unless someone drags him there (starters for: yeo wool, ??)

ki yu ri-- ( 3 / ? with hardison, melody, yeon ) she’s not going to let these monsters take her down, no way. she can be pretty uh feral if the situation calls for it, which i believe it probably will. idk that she’ll want to partner with anyone she doesn’t know, but she can help watch your character’s back temporarily in exchange for food/supplies/etc.

peter pettigrew-- ( 1 / ? with john watson ) he’s a survivalist so he’ll be alright, but he will also ONLY be looking out for himself, so. he does have a functional wand as well. 

martin blackwood-- ( 4 / ? with entrapta, chi woo, connor walsh, angelica schuyler ) he’s faced a lot of nonsense at the Institute. this is just. another day. he’s exhausted already. honestly you’ll probably find him in a zombie-infested library researching as many creatures as he can to figure out their weaknesses before making a plan to deal with them, all while staying as in-hiding as he can.

noah czerny-- ( 1 / ? with magnus bane ) he’s dead & a ghost already?? so he’s not really concerned about himself. he can probably do communication runs between people from different parts of the city. and he can carry small objects at a time so he can bring supplies to people. at the same time, he is worried about his friends, so that is a bit of a distraction

patroclus-- ( 2 / ? with cullen rutherford, will solace ) he’s fought in wars before. nothing like zombies, of course, and he doesn’t like to kill things if he doesn’t have to, so he’ll be trying to stay away from the main areas of danger if at all possible. i can see him getting trapped by a weeping angel or something.

yuri plisetsky-- ( 3 / ? with sandor clegane, lizzie midford, light yagami ) will be freaking out and angry that this shit is happening. can this city not calm down for two weeks at a time????? anyway, he really has no strategy other than “chuck heavy things at the monsters and run” so, questionable success in his future

orpheus-- ( 2 / ? with ko mun yeong, annabeth chase ) much like on the cruise, he doesn’t do well when others are getting hurt or when there’s massive danger. overwhelmed with worry for everyone in the city that he knows and cares about. he’ll probably try to sing at the monsters to make them calm down. it will not work

on the Island (again, in order of “dealing with this well” to “dealing significantly less well”):

wen kexing-- ( 1 / ? with luke skywalker ) his wuxia abilities, especially his qinggong lightness skills (like his genre’s version of flying, essentially) will be handy. he can also heal others by giving them energy, which might be useful. he’s had to rule over a gang of thousands of criminals for years; he feels pretty confident he can handle a couple natural/supernatural disasters.

wei wuxian-- ( 5 / ? with jin ling, kurt hummel, jester lavorre, jiang yanli / texts with vic weasley ) personality-wise, he’s solid in a crisis. he’s really creative and knows enough physics/engineering to be able to rig up some preventative measures depending on what disaster he’s stuck in. unfortunately, he does still lack his memory so he’s not as useful as he would’ve been if he had his cultivation abilities. 

melanie king-- ( 3 / ? with glinda, jaina solo, bianca di angelo ) she’s not really about to trust anyone, friend or foe, to help her in this scenario. and she can’t punch her way out of an acid rain storm, etc, so... I’m not sure how well she’ll fare

pippin took-- ( 3 / ? with hallie parker, arwen, will byers ) on the plus side: woo, finally some adventure he’s been craving! some great stories are going to come out of this! on the negative side: he has very few useful skills or abilities other than the enthusiasm to live. he’s probably sunk tbh.
