in response to another ask, i actually really like the ambiguity of jon's asexuality, bc many other ace people (including myself) can project our owns expiriences and feelings while not being confined to canon.

like, if it was said that he was repulsed, completely utterly, finds it disgusting, etc., then myself and many others on the less repulsed side of the spectrum would have a harder time connecting and liking the character, especially if, like myself, are Jon kinnie's, then it would be even harder.

and on the other side of things, if it were said jon was more positive or neurtal, it would still have the same effect of being hard for all ace people to connect with.

i do also believe the way his sexuality was handled was a bit... off?

like, saying all ace people "don't" is an over exaggeration. some people do have those activities (look i may be ace and on the more neutral/positive side of it but i can still skirt around the words, ok?) and some dont, and it just feels weird. having an ambigous ace character while giving the hint that they might be repulsed/indifferent/etc., towards doing certain activities just feels weird to me.

ofc it could also be read as melanie just learning about it from georgie and never thinkin to ask Jon himself, thus causing ehr to draw her own conclusions, but yeah, a bit weird, but yk. it is what it is? not sure how to close out these thoughts-

Thanks to @dathen for the tag! We have two comfort characters in common, so I’m list them as the first two!

1. Sherlock Holmes - My dad and I started watching the old black and white films together when I was kid, and he gave me my first Sherlock Holmes collection when I was young. Holmes has always been a safe place for me, really, and now as an adult, I’m like...”yeah, no wonder I identified with this character a lot” lol. I regularly reread the ACD stories and semi-recently got an audiobook with the complete collected works, and someday my dad says he’ll let me have his collection of Holmes films lol

2. Murderbot - I would kill and die for Murderbot. It is one of my favorite characters of all time, and I am relistening to the whole series for the 10th time right now (and I regularly relisten to All Systems Red without returning to the whole series). if you haven’t read the books, please please please do and then come shout in my inbox about it, we will be best friends forever 💜

3. Hercule Poirot - my Belgian detective blorbo, I would kill for Poirot but he would be so disappointed in me. I also regularly relisten to the books, and I love that recent audiobooks have Hugh Fraser and David Suchet (Hasting and Poirot from BBC’s Poirot) narrating the books. I have a collected edition of the Poirot show, and I’m hoping to collect all the books in both audio and paperback so I can always have my blorbo nearby 💜

4. Jane Marple - are you seeing a theme here? I’m being called out by my own choices here lol. but she’s like nosy grandma core without actually being a grandma, and she’s whip smart and loves knitting and her people. I love her to pieces, and if anything happened to me, I’d want her to investigate (I’m also collecting her books and audiobooks. I have all of the BBC Marple show seasons, and next I’m going for the ones with Joan Hickson)

5. Jonathan Sims - my darling, my love, my ultimate blorbo. like dath, I considered not including him, but ultimately, I return to him over and over again, and when pressed, couldn’t think of someone else to put on this list instead of him. I keep putting him in situations so he can get a hug and a blankie 💜💜

TMA where everything is exactly the same except halfway through Jon starts using she/her pronouns. No one bats an eye, her voice is exactly the same, and no one mentions it. The only exception is that Martin is allowed one (1) fond comment about how she waited to socially transition until she wasn’t really human anymore. Jon gives him a stern glance in response and Martin starts panicking and reassuring her that everyone has their own journeys and so long as you’re safe there’s never a wrong time to come out (except for maybe that time he blurted out that he was bi to his mom over a vegan burger, she never did quite forgive him for that) and everyone is thoroughly supportive and his feelings haven’t changed and- Jon sips her tea calmly, pleased at making Martin scramble for words. It’s her favorite type of ace flirting.

Scared about tomorrow DC’s Pride Special, because I know one of two things will probably happen; either they will make Damian say/do something homophobic just to have other characters scolding him or they will canonly refer to him as a straight™ ally and I don’t have to time for either of those things.

#judging the summary of Jon's story it seem like this will be the case #characters don't usually get confirmed as straight in canon by DC personally hate me and they purposely do everything to spite me #so they will probably indirectly refer to him as straight and shatter my dreams of him one day being Ace #I accepted that it will only be Connor who comes out as Ace tomorrow but come on giving us some crumbs #maybe have Damian be curious about Connor and his sexuality to hint that maybe he himself could also be ace #I will gaslight myself its okay but just give us something to go by

Some extremely self indulgent queer HC for the original archives group under the cut. I go into way too much detail with them btw so be warned.

Martin: gay ftm transman, on HRT but no surgeries due to him on starting to physically transition after him mum went into age care. He/him only.

Sasha: trans woman, demi and bi. Been on HRT for a few years and has had no surgeries. She realised she was trans in her teens and swung incredibly hard into being feminine. Only just recently let herself be more comfortable with anything vaguely masculine (body hair, thick brows, upper lip fuzz, etc.) and is loving it. She/her only as well.

Tim: Just identifies as queer. He doesn't really know his sexuality outside of “he likes who he likes” and would define his gender as “whatever the fuck.” If he did put labels on it, he'd probably be pansexual and genderqueer, but he's very happy undefined. Also likes drag in his past time. He/him but she/her and they/them during drag or from certain close friends.

Jon: Bi ace obviously. I am, however, torn between afab and amab Jon. If he was ftm I think he would have transitioned very early on and is where he wants to be with their transition. Top surgery, HRT, and some other stuff.

On the other hand, I can more easily imagine amab Jon who assumes he's 100% cis during TMA with how he is written. He'd spend most of his life vaguely aware of trans people, but one day had a sort of 'Oh' moment perhaps when Tim was showing off his drag and went down a painful spiral of gender questioning. Coming out on the end of it realising they might not be very cis. Either way, he/they transmasc/non-binary Jon supremecy.

Cursed bonus:

Jonah Magnus: Gay homophobic man. I read one fanfiction that Jonah was trans in his original life and that has buried itself into my skull and will never leave me alone against my wishes. However, every body since his first has been cis male. Absolutely not an ally and has never done anything for any gay person except for himself. Probably one of those shitty people who thinks gnc queer people are ‘pushing it’ or something. Has called people slurs as insults.
