The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997, Steven Spielberg)
19/03/2024
The Lost World: Jurassic Park is a 1997 film directed by Steven Spielberg, sequel to Jurassic Park and inspired by the novel The Lost World by Michael Crichton.
The franchise continued with Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
Four years have passed since the dramatic events at Jurassic Park. Professor Ian Malcolm, one of the survivors, is contacted again by the now ex-head of InGen, John Hammond, and informed that Isla Nublar, the place where the park stood, was in reality just a showcase for tourists. In fact, the prehistoric creatures were actually created on nearby Isla Sorna, the so-called "Site B" where, following the destruction of the fences caused by the hurricane called Clarissa, they were able to escape from their cages and live undisturbed without the whole world knowing, but now the target of her greedy and corrupt nephew, Peter Ludlow, eager to plunder her to recreate a "city Jurassic Park" in San Diego. At first Malcolm, knowing the very high risks, declines the proposal but, discovering that his girlfriend, the paleontologist Sarah Harding, has already gone to the place, he decides to leave immediately to bring her back, aided by the photographer Nick Van Owen and the engineer Eddie Carr.
Not long after Peter Ludlow, together with a team of hunters led by Roland Tembo, arrives on Isla Sorna to begin the capture of some dinosaurs and in particular, an adult male specimen of Tyrannosaurus rex.
After a day's march, Dieter Stark, Tembo's deputy, loses his life in the jungle, devoured alive by the small Compsognathus and that same night the camp is attacked by T-Rexes, attracted by the smell of the puppy's blood left impregnated on the jacket by Sarah. In the general escape, the hunting team crosses an expanse of tall grass falling victim to an ambush by seven Velociraptors; despite this, Ian, Sarah, Nick and Kelly manage to reach the communications center, where Nick requests reinforcements from the mainland while the others have to deal with the Raptors.
Jeff Goldblum is Professor Ian Malcolm: a mathematician expert in chaos theory. He is, together with Hammond (and with the exception of the children, who only appear in a brief cameo), the only main character from the first chapter to also reappear in the sequel. At the end of the first film, Malcolm managed to escape from Isla Nublar, and during these four years he revealed the facts of Jurassic Park to the public.
Julianne Moore is Dr. Sarah Harding, Ian Malcolm's girlfriend.

Jurassic Park III
“Jurassic Park III” feels like it was sorry for its existence and made sure to not overstay its unwelcome.
Alan Grant is facing the possibility of having to shut down his research due to a lack of funding. He’s met by Paul and Amanda Kirby who ask him to be their tour guide on the island of Isla Sorna. Alan refuses, but changes his mind after being told that the Kirbys would fund his research. When they get to the island, the Kirbys reveal that they will be landing the plane to search for their lost son.
This kind of movie is one of the most infuriating types of movies to review for me. That’s because there are too many nitpicky things to talk about that collectively ruin the movie experience for me. I’d like to talk about them all in-depth, but I just can’t with this format. For a lot of people, this is the movie that made them dislike the Jurassic Park series. After watching the movie, I can totally see why. The main problem is the new characters. The Kirbys are the absolute worst. It really says something that I actively rooted for the dinosaurs to devour the Kirbys. Paul is a spineless liar who gets so many people killed, but never has to face the consequences. He lies to Alan Grant after not heeding his warning and then knocks him out after he reveals he didn’t heed his warning. Amanda is the first Karen in this series and is never taught why her behavior is unacceptable. She’s yelling at the top of her lungs in the dinosaur-infested jungle, even when she’s told multiple times not to. And it’s not like she’s ignorant of what the ramifications of her yelling could do. She’s seen her flight crew get torn up into shreds after bringing too much attention to themselves. When I figured out that this movie wanted Paul and Amanda to rekindle their relationship, I groaned. These two characters do not deserve happiness. Like I said before, the problems of this movie are only exacerbated by the small idiocies sprinkled throughout the film. They charge a camera with a flashlight battery, they cross a bridge one-by-one but then throw caution to the wind and all stand on the bridge at the same time, and they even dig through piles of shit. The only saving grace of this movie was that it wasn’t long. I’m pretty sure I would’ve had long-term brain damage if this movie had been as long as the other Jurassic Park movies. The other thing that I appreciated was some cool ideas here and there and the fact that they still used animatronics. It’s no wonder this franchise went dormant for over a decade after this movie.

Well fair check how we doing
We're doing pretty good right now, actually. I'm working on something that I'll likely either post tonight or queue up for later this week because I'm actually feeling good about my writing. Other than that, mentally I'm well, just a little frustrated and stressed with school.
What about yourself? How have you been? Taking care of yourself, I hope?

Jurassic Park III (2001)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Jurassic Park III has a thunderstorm late in the film, with lightning that creates frequent strobe effects. Whenever there is no sound of rain falling, the film is safe to watch. At the end, the shadows cast from spinning helicopter blades create a strobe effect.
Large portions of the first act of the film take place on an airplane, which goes through turbulence, rolls, and crash lands. Two scenes involve parasailing, and a few other moments take place at extreme heights.
Flashing Lights: 6/10. Motion Sickness: 4/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: Two scenes involve bare hands interacting with animal feces. There is one gory jump scare.
NOTE: Our evaluation of Jurassic World Dominion is now available on the $1 tier and above on our Patreon page!

I have a theory that there are two kinds of boys. There are those who want to be astronomers and those who want to be astronauts. The astronomer, or the paleontologist, gets to study these amazing things from a place of complete safety. But then you never get to go into space.

2001 for films
send me a year and i'll tell you my favourite movie of that year
Ah, 2001. The first time I saw a film in theatres.
It was Jurassic Park III. My teenager sister took me to see it.
Probably a bad choice for multiple reasons.
I remember a lot of kid's movies from this year, lots of them were in rotation in my household. Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Monsters Inc, Shrek, Cats and Dogs, Spy Kids. Very good year for kids movies.
Besides that, some real fun movies that year too. The Mummy Returns is good, but unfortunately it's legacy is simply "Bad CGI Rock". The Knight's Tale is a great film, as is Moulin Rouge! I've also never forgotten The 51st State, released in the US as Formula 51, which is a film where criminal chemist Samuel L. Jackson goes to Liverpool, wears a kilt, and is taught the nuances of the word "bollocks".
Legally Blonde and The Princess Diaries are naturally iconic, and John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars is a fun dumb action-horror.
And, of course, everyone's favourite fantasy story featuring wizards premiered it's first film this year: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
But ultimate, what has been my favourite film of 2001 for decades has to be Evolution. The sci-fi comedy starring David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Julianne Moore and Sean William Scott. Fucking brilliant movie. So many iconic moments. From luring an alien dragon into a trap with bad karaoke, to the emergency surgery to get the bug out, to the shoplifting woman who gets saved and swears never to shoplift again, and the fucking Head and Shoulders ad oh god.
I love that movie.

* Does this one actually count as a movie? Feel like it's a bit of a stretch, but it does say "The Movie" right there in the title xD And it's ME, I feel like my list would be incomplete if I didn't include something starring my fave fire boi lol! ** What?! Frozen II on the list, but not the original Frozen?! That's right, it IS possible for one of a person's utmost fave characters of all time to be in a movie they thought was only okay xD Don't get me wrong, I do like Frozen, it just didn't make the cut for this list! Frozen II on the other hand came out in theaters at a time when I only had to pay $15/mo for unlimited movie tickets and I loved it so much, I was seeing it 2 or 3 times a week x'D *** I know rules didn't say to point this out, but I feel like I had to do it anyway: Utmost. Fave. Movie. Of. All. Time. RDJ and Val Kilmer in a comedic whodunit? Movie gold! Watch it. It's good!
Okay, now to tag people! Remember this is just for fun, absolutely no pressure to actually do this, only if you want to! Tagging: @basiliskonline @daughterofkyne @astranovus64 and to anyone else reading this who thinks creating a list of your fave movies sounds fun, I tag you as well! :D
