Bound to fall in love...
{Requests: open}
Pairing: Math girl reader x English boy Kazuha
╰┈➤ A/n: A little self indulgent. Yay first writing work thingy. Anyways, NAPLAN drained all my writing skills for today so sorry if its bad.
✎ Synopsis: When a girl who excels in math meets a boy who excels in English, they're bound to fall in love right? After all, opposites attract.
Headcanons + scenario
Genre: fluff
✎ Highschool au
TW: None
CW: Reader despises bad grades(they're an academic), reader bad at english, sumeru classes are like honour classes/i think ap classes if you're american(correct me if I'm wrong im not american), reader in sumeru classes, fluff.
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ Loading...
I think Kazuha gets slightly above average grades
Like Bs in everything but especially excells in english
Every english teacher's teacher pet
He doesn't even try to be on the teacher's good side, they just love him I mean he's really sweet and stuff so
Fails math though
Straight As in english but straight Ds in Math
Ok enough about him kinda
On the other hand you excel in every subject, especially math
almost every subject
You were in the sumeru classes so ofc you're book smart and stuff but
You only got one B in english your entire life, the rest were Cs
If only you could do as well in english as you did with math
Math was logical, it was simple, you always did more then the extension work that was given to you
But with english, you had to interpret the character or author's feelings
Know when to use figurative language and how to make your character appealing, interesting
While Kazuha's only sumeru class was english and he exceeded that curriculum
Struggling, with both subjects, the two of you eventually meet (Short scenario below)
"You got 10% on the math quiz again?" Venti said. "You have to pick up your grades soon Kazuha or else you'll never graduate."
"Your one to talk," Xiao scoffed, "Aren't you failing 3 subjects?" A small pout formed on Venti's face while Xiao continued eating his almond tofu.
The white haired boy laughed at his two friends. "At least I go an A on the english assignment," Kazuha said.
"If only your grades in math were as good as you grades in english," Aether chuckled.
"Aww you and (name) would make a good couple," Scara said sarcatically. "Making up for the other's flaw and all."
"Oh yeah!" Heizou said. "Why not just go and ask (Name) to tutor you," Heizou suggested.
"Ah but I don't want to trouble her," Kazuha said.
"I'm sure she won't mind and if you're still so concerned about troubling her, just tutor her for english," the blonde boy said. "Lumine said she's been struggling with the subject."
Kazuha hummed, staring down at his quiz paper.
"Urgh! Why can't I just get an A!" (Name) screamed, frustration written all over her face. She stuffed her assignment back into her bag, utterly defeated.
"Well, you got a B," Yunjin said,"that's an improvement."
"I know but it feels like I can't break this invisable wall and all my parents say is try harder," (Name) said. "Like thanks for the advice, I totally haven't been doing that this whole time!" she said, throwing her hands in the air.
"Why not get a tutor?" Lumine suggested.
"My parents don't believe in paying extra money for another person to teach me," (Name) sighed. The girl waved at her friends before entering her english classroom, placing her stuff onto her desk and taking a seat, waiting for the teacher to arrive and for another useless class to start.
"Um hey (Name) was it?" one of your classmates called out to you,"can I ask you a favour?" What was his name again? Ah! Kadehara Kazuha.
The boy pulled you outside the room full of overachievers to ask you if you could tutor him math and in return he'll help you in english
You accepted because well it was free tutoring and you didn't mind teaching him in return
"Ok but we'll have to study in a public place cause my parents don't allow strangers in the house and I'm not allowed to go to someone's house unless they've met them." - You
"Ok then." - Kazuha
And this is where the journey starts
You'd tutor each other on the weekends, during breaks and sometimes afterschool
You would teach Kazuha the basics, making sure he understood what to do in every possible mathematical situation before working his way up
You tried very hard to be patient but sometimes you just wanted to give up
Boy seemed hopeless but you wouldn't give up on him
Since he only asked you a week before the test, the results weren't great but he didn't fail
He showed you his C+ like an excited child before composing himself and asking what you got
"How did you even get 102%?!"
"I had extra time so I did a different way of working each question out for fun."
Venti overheard this conversation and his jaw dropped while Scara scoffed, murmuring something along the lines of you being a tryhard or something Scara's mad you managed to beat his perfect score like always
When he got an A next term, you felt very proud
You started giving him extension work afterwards much to his displeasure
On the other hand Kazuha taught you everything about literature
Like everything
He was so patient and gave you so many examples, you don't know how he created such sentences from thin air
You were just like how do you even think of that
He taught you what words to you and how to correctly interpret the character or author's feelings
He explained it so much better than the teacher, you were just like why doesn't our teacher explain it like this
He would edit your drafts and give you feedback
Kazuha told you to edit his draft once and you refused profusely
He wanted someone else's insight on his work but he guessed he'd just have to ask another day
He was prouder than your parents when you started getting As in english
Anyways below is after you start dating
He'd let you borrow his favourite books to read
Study dates were a thing but he made them more romatic
Like he planned out a whole picnic for a study date once
Had boba, mochi, all your favourite food and snacks
He found a really cute cat cafe to study in but you two go disctracted by the cats
You two would agree to disagree on whether math or english was better
When you two got together heizou called scara a fortune teller for foreshadowing this
Their whole friend group started annoying scara, asking him to tell their fortunes
Scara told them all to shut up
When kazuha sees you writing your essays, focussed and completely oblivious to anything else, he's thinks about how glad he is that he asked you to tutor him in math

You Belong With Me | Kaedehara Kazuha |
Tumblr media
Kazuha leaned against his hand as he gazed at a male that stood beside a female who was talking the other's ear off for no reason.
His crimson hues held a distant look in them as a captivated sigh escaped his lips, ignoring the fact he was infatuated with the male for the past several months.
A single hand being placed upon his shoulder caused Kazuha to look over his shoulder in confusion, before taking notice of his captain, Beidou.
"Oh? Is there something wrong, Captain?" Kazuha asked, turning around to give the woman his full attention.
Beidou gave a knowing look to the Inazuman wanderer that stood right before her
Her eyes softened when she saw Kazuha's eyes drift over to a male with (H/c)-haired locks that were dressed up into (H/s).
"Still thinking about him, huh?" Beidou asked.
Kazuha hummed lowly, as a small smile slipped onto his lips. "Why, of course," he answered.
Beidou tightened her lips into a straight line as she gazed heavily upon the female that chattered the (H/c)-haired male's ear off over something stupid.
The realization came across her face as she quickly turned her attention to the crimson-eyed boy with a smile.
"There's going to be a festival tonight," she began.
Kazuha raised a brow at the woman, wondering what she was planning on doing. "The festival that the Kamisato siblings settled on bringing up?" He calculated.
Beidou nodded her head with a smirk sketching onto her lips. "I want you to go," she finally states.
Kazuha's eyes widened a little at hearing those words escape Beidou's lips.
"What are you planning, Beidou?" He asked in a wary tone.
Beidou gave a teasing smile. "I'm just allowing you to take a break, that's all," she replied.
Kazuha's brows furrowed, instantly knowing that the woman was lying due to the wind and his strong hearing.
"Mmh, I'll take you up on your word," Kazuha mumbled as he turned his attention back to the figure with (H/c)-haired locks.
Beidou nodded her head, before laughing. "You better get dressed... because I'm pretty sure you have someone to try and impress tonight," she teased before heading off to talk with one of her crew mates.
Kazuha's face flushed into a light pink as he realized what Beidou was hinting at.
She was trying to get him with his crush - who was already in a relationship with a female.
"I know what you're trying to do, Beidou... but I don't think it'll work," Kazuha sighed heavily before shaking his head in disappointment and heading off to do his job on the ship.
✧˖*°࿐
(Y/n) gazed at his girlfriend with an emotionless look on his face, listening to her babble on about wanting to plaster her face with a horrendous amount of makeup for tonight.
The girl turned toward her boyfriend and giggled. "Oh come on, babe... I'll be the prettiest girl out there!" She exclaimed.
(Y/n) sent a fake smile to the female before him, and nodded. "I know you will," he lied calmly.
The female beamed brightly. "I'm gonna head off. I have to get ready for the festival, after all! I'll see you in a few hours, love bug!" She exclaimed before running off.
(Y/n) felt a shiver run up his spine as he quickly shook his head. "And sometimes I wonder why I haven't broken up with her yet," he mumbled in disappointment.
"(Y/n)!" A squeaky voice hollered.
(Y/n)'s eyes brightened up at the familiar voice and turned his head.
"Paimon! Hello Lumine," (Y/n) greeted the blonde-haired female with a welcoming smile.
Paimon smiled brightly.
Lumine returned the smile with one of her own. "Are you excited for tonight?" She asked.
(Y/n) heavily sighed, but nodded his head.
Paimon and Lumine shared a look, realizing that they must've just missed a certain female that neither of them liked.
"Is it (R/n) again? Is she bothering you?" Paimon huffed out, crossing her arms over her chest.
(Y/n) hummed lightly as he nodded his head. "She wants to head to the festival tonight that the Kamisato siblings created for everyone," he answered.
Lumine gave an understanding smile at the other, before tapping her bottom lip with a finger.
"Maybe... you could say you're planning to hang out with someone else during the festival?" Lumine questioned with furrowed brows.
The (H/c)-haired male shook his head. "Can't do that when she's already, and forcefully may I add, told me she has plans for the both of us," he answered.
Paimon pouted angrily. "You're not someone's property! Have you tried to break up with her?"
"Multiple times, she keeps changing the topic every damn time," (Y/n) answered.
"That... that... Grr, she deserves a rude nickname!" Paimon exclaimed while stomping her foot in the air.
Lumine and (Y/n) laughed at the young fairy-like child.
Lumine looked over (Y/n)'s shoulder, standing on her tippy toes, and noticed Kazuha looking over at them.
A small smile slipped onto her lips, as she sent a quick wink to the crimson-eyed male who stared at her with a weird and flushed look.
She giggled quietly as she turned to look back up at (Y/n). "Maybe you'll find someone that fits you tonight," she states.
(Y/n) blink with a dumbfounded look, while Paimon smiled brightly when she understood what her companion was hinting at.
"We'll see you tonight, (N/n)! Paimon and I have to finish off the commissions Katheryne gave us," Lumine chirped before heading off.
"Bye, bye!" Paimon exclaimed while waving.
(Y/n) waved, before slowly bringing it down to his side.
"What the hell...? You know what? I'm not gonna question it," (Y/n) sighed.
The (E/c)-eyed male turned away. 'Now... let's get these cargo boxes to their respected stalls.' He thought.
✧˖*°࿐
Hours wistfully passed, indicating that it was nearly time for the festival to start, thanks to the help of multiple paths becoming busy with people from everywhere in Teyvat.
Kazuha could be seen tugging at the sleeves of his red kimono with an unsure look on his face.
Beidou stood in front of the male with a proud look on her face.
"You look handsome," she stated.
Kazuha sent a smile to the female before him, feeling reassured a little.
Beidou crossed her arms over her chest.
"Have fun, okay? I want you to enjoy something special and fun for the night," Beidou retorted gently.
Kazuha hummed lowly as he stopped messing with his sleeves. "I will," he replied.
Beidou clicked her tongue before laughing. "And tell (Y/n) I said hi when you see him."
Kazuha nodded his head, knowing how the female saw the (H/c)-haired male like a brother she never had.
"Will do," he promised.
Beidou joyfully slapped Kazuha on his back, causing him to nearly tumble and fall forward.
"Now, go have some fun!" She ordered.
Kazuha smiled lightly, but nodded his head, and headed into the mob of people that were hanging around the stalls that the festivals had set up.
Beidou watched the Anemo user walk off.
"I hope Lumine's plan works," she sighed with her shoulders sagging downward.
✧˖*°࿐
(Y/n) stood off to the side, blankly watching his girlfriend flirt with other men before him.
'And why am I still with her? Oh yeah, our clans wanted us to marry each other.' (Y/n) thought, biting the inside of his cheek with a frown dancing upon his lips.
Hasty, but gentle footsteps captured (Y/n)'s attention, causing him to look over in confusion.
His (E/c) hues widened when their owner took notice of a very familiar Anemo user.
It was Kazuha.
The said male was wearing a plain maple-red kimono with white lining striping around his neck and down to his feet, a set of wooden sandals separating his feet from the ground so that they wouldn't be stabbed by anything like pebbles and sticks, an obi wrapped around his waist which was designed with maple leaves.
(Y/n) felt his cheeks become flustered when he realized that he was checking out the male, and quickly looked away.
Kazuha came walking up to the (H/c)-haired male, taking in the clothing that (Y/n) wore.
(Y/n) was wearing a simple (F/c) kimono that had an (S/f/c) obi wrapped around his waist. He too also wore a set of wooden sandals.
The thing that caught Kazuha's attention more was how the kimono seemed to expose (Y/n)'s well-built figure to the world.
(Y/n)'s hair was even placed into a neater (H/s).
Kazuha became flustered as his eyes drifted over to (Y/n)'s girlfriend and mentally cringed.
The said female was caked up in makeup.
He could also tell the female was also flirting with other men right in front of her boyfriend.
(Y/n) clicked his tongue in disgust, before turning away from his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend.
Kazuha unconsciously reached a hand out to make contact with (Y/n)'s own, before pulling back.
(Y/n) took in a deep breath and sighed. "I'm guessing Beidou let you free?" He asked.
Kazuha hummed lightly, nodding his head.
(Y/n) sent a warm smile toward the slightly shorter male. "That's good, you needed it."
Kazuha gave a small smile back.
(Y/n) realized what time it must've been, as he released a disappointed mumble from his lips.
"It's almost time for the dance," (Y/n) murmured.
Kazuha frowned. "Looks like it," he agreed.
(Y/n) sent a pained smile to the male beside him, which Kazuha instantly noticed.
"I'll talk to you later," he states.
Kazuha nodded. "See you," he replied.
(Y/n) hummed before heading off, dragging his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend with him.
Kazuha watched the male with a distant look on his face. "Maybe this was a bad idea," he murmured.
✧˖*°࿐
(Y/n)'s girlfriend gave an annoyed look up at the said male.
"What do you mean?" She asked with a look of disbelief.
(Y/n) heavily frowned. "I said what I said, (R/n). Our proposal, and whatever we are, is done," he answered in a blunt tone.
(R/n) gave a furious look at the male that dared to break up with her. "You have no right to break up with me! The contract between our families proves that!" She exclaimed.
(Y/n) glared at the female before him. "And the contract says that the man of the said proposal is allowed to break it off if they catch their significant other cheating on them with other men!" He retorted.
(R/n) gritted her teeth, knowing that (Y/n) was telling the truth.
It suddenly went quiet, causing everyone to turn and look.
It was Kazuha.
(Y/n)'s eyes widened when he saw Kazuha before him.
The said male now had his hair out of his ponytail, allowing it to flow freely in the slight pressure of the wind.
He also had a Cecilia flower in his hair.
Kazuha sent a smile toward (Y/n), realizing that he was being stared at.
(Y/n) was the first one to move, but was held back by (R/n) grabbing onto his wrist.
He glanced down at the female with a heavy stare.
"We can try to work things out! I promise that I'll stop flirting with other men!" (R/n) promised.
(Y/n) rolled his eyes, and snatched his hand back. "We're over," he retorted in a calm voice.
(R/n) clenched her hands by her sides, watching her now ex-boyfriend, and a wanderer meet halfway.
(Y/n) was the first one to intertwine his arms around Kazuha's waist.
Kazuha wrapped his arms around (Y/n)'s shoulders.
(Y/n) smiled lightly as the music around him and Kazuha disappeared as they both started to dance.
"You look beautiful," (Y/n) complimented.
Kazuha shook his head and smiled as his cheeks flushed pink. "And you, a handsome man that one should be glad to have as both a lover and future husband," he retorted.
(Y/n) quirked a brow at the unexpected response he was given.
Chuckling softly, (Y/n) shook his head.
"A beautiful maple leaf seemed to open my eyes to show the true beauty that one should hold so dearly. A beauty that deserves the world and recognition of all that they've done," (Y/n) replied.
Kazuha blinked, before realizing that (Y/n) was talking about him.
"You..." Kazuha trailed off.
(Y/n) smiled softly as he brushed his lips against Kazuha's pair.
Kazuha closed his eyes when he felt a pleasurable electricity make itself home between the two.
(Y/n) brought a single hand up to Kazuha's face, and stared at him with a loving stare.
Kazuha reciprocated the same look, his chest-beating like there was no tomorrow.
The two didn't dare to say anything else and allowed their lips to do the speaking.
Kazuha melted into (Y/n)'s figure as he held tightly onto the said male's kimono.
(Y/n) smiled into the kiss, as he wrapped a single arm around Kazuha's waist, pulling the said male closer to his chest.
Whistles and clapping were all muffled out as the standbys watched in glee and joy.
A hidden Lumine and Beidou fist-bumped each other, watching both (Y/n) and Kazuha share their first kiss.
The two were proud that both (Y/n) and Kazuha, despite the subtle hints that the two males kept hinting toward one another these past few months without either of them realizing it.
"I love you," Kazuha whispered against (Y/n)'s lips.
"I love you too, my beloved beauty," (Y/n) whispered back.
The duo once more shared a sweet kiss, the second fireworks went exploding into the air.
Colors littered the sky and illuminated the newly dating duo into the world that they would be sharing forever.

MY SUNRISE — K. KAZUHA
࣪𖤐 waking up before your lover does. gn!reader
Tumblr media
kazuha lay in your bed with his face pressed against your pillow, light snores coming out of him every few minutes or so. the curtains were left open from the previous day and so the colors of the iridescent sunrise were slowly pouring into the room and leaving their mark on the platinum haired boy.
red and orange hues were taking their turns dancing their light on his face as he slept on. the cat you both co-owned laid asleep next to resting boy as well, both creatures resonating in the rest within the sunrise.
it was a peaceful moment, you thought. your lover lay in your bed, gaining the rest he oh-so diligently earned, and the sun rise was upon you.
shifting slightly, you changed your position to face kazuha rather than the skies. his mouth was slightly agape as soft snores and murmurs continue to come in and out. still, his expression was one of calmness and peace. his hair was let out of the ponytail he kept on all day and the strands framed his face in a perfect manner even in this state.
you left a soft kiss upon his forehead, gazing at him with only admiration in your eyes. “i love you.” you whispered against his forehead.
there was a change in movement and kazuha’s arm came sliding out the covers to find it’s way around your waist. there was a slight groan as he rasped out, “dove, it’s so early, why’re you up?”
you warmed up to his embrace as you moved even closer to him, playing lightly with his hair. you hummed a response back, whispering for him to go back to sleep with the promise you’ll be there next to him when he wakes up.
“promise?” he asks.
“i promise, my sunrise.” you say, kissing his shoulder lightly.

Tumblr media
kazuha x fem!reader. 1.6k wc. part 1! part 2!
having a huge hangover the next day is not ideal, and especially when you don’t remember what had happened last night..
✧ childhood friends to lovers, mutual pining, slight angst, mentions of alcohol, mature language.
Tumblr media
“what the hell?” your head is pounding when you wake in the unfamiliar room. you rub your eyes to get a sense of where you were.
the hotel. the wedding. kazuha’s plus one.
you were in the hotel room that you and kazuha were sharing for his mom’s second wedding and you were invited by kazuha and were attending it as his plus one.
you look around the room but you couldn’t spot him anywhere.
you groan, turning from your comfortable spot on the bed and looking around for your phone or a note on the nightstand that would help you grasp an understanding of kazuha’s current location.
found it.
[ i’m going to run some errands. i’ll be back. painkillers are in the drawer below where i dropped this note. :)
you smile at the little smiley face that he had drawn at the end of it, opening the drawer to see if he was right about the painkillers. and of course, when you open the drawer you see the packet. although, your phone was still nowhere to be seen.
you lie back down onto the soft cushions and sigh closing your eyes taking in this feeling of relaxation after a so-called “fun” night with kazuha and his family.
and then it hits you.
his mom had given you two shots that you had hesitantly taken because you didn’t want to be rude to the woman that had basically raised you whenever your mom was too busy with her duties and your dad was overseas doing business.
what happened after that?
you’re trying so hard to remember but everything is coming back to you in a blur and it’s hard to recall the events of yesterday night.
“you’re so pretty you know that?” you cup his face waiting for his response but all you’re met with is a flushed face and a frustrated sigh from kazuha.
“you’re kidding.” you face-palm yourself. you knew that you wouldn’t be able to keep it in much longer when kazuha had dropped that confession to you a month ago but this was not the right time.
not when it was supposed to be his mother’s day and you were supposed to help kazuha try and bond and adjust to this new family of his.
but suddenly you remember that there was more than that to the story.
“can i kiss you?” you ask him. he nods reluctantly.
your lips crash, the sweet taste of peppermint from your chapstick mixed with the raging taste of alcohol from earlier had made him yearning for more and you could tell. butterflies emerged from your stomach at the sight of him wanting you so much and when you slowly move on his lap, his hands travel down to your thighs. you let out a whimper—
“no, no, no, no, no.” you rummage around the bedsheets trying to find your phone which clearly was not in sight and your frustration was slowly rising.
you needed to send kazuha a text immediately. how was he so calm about this? why did he not mention it in the note? was he planning to just let you forget it? did you mean that little to him? god, where was a guy when you needed him to answer your questions?
you finally find your phone that was inside your pillow.
<you: where are you? <kazuha: running errands. i’ll be back in a couple of minutes. <you: need to see you. now.  <kazuha: in my moms hotel room. on the 4th floor. 403
you nervously bite your lip at the sudden confession that you would have to make. and the fear that you would suddenly face.
what if he doesn’t accept your confession? or what if he’s already moved on?
you shake your head. there was no way he would’ve already moved on that quickly. a wave of despair hits you when you realize that it’s kazuha and he’s the most unpredictable man you’ve ever met.
you guys had been friends since you’ve been in diapers. sure, you guys have had rough patches but it wasn’t anything that was out of your power that you couldn’t fix. he’s seen you when you were at your absolute worse, he’s seen you for who you truly are. he’s seen you and let you be who you are. he lets you talk while he listens. he lets you do whatever you want while he follows even if he doesn’t like it. because kazuha kaedehara is an absolutely hopeless romantic. and he will do almost anything for you. and the day that you come to realize it, he wins at life.
the years of work that you guys had put in this “friendship” will no longer be for your guy’s friendship and be for your relationship.
the cold taste of metal touches your tongue.
god this was nerve-wracking.
you quickly change out of your nightgown, fix your hair, grab nothing but your phone and the room keys, and head to room 403 where kazuha kaedehara aka the love of your life will be.
you can’t believe that he would’ve just let this go if you hadn’t remembered.
you take a deep breath as you knock on the door, meeting kazuha ho looked like he hasn’t slept in days with dark circles under his eyes for the first time ever like he did when he had to study for the a.p lit exam. (which was in high school so that was a long time ago).
“hi.”
“hi.” he says back. and god this awkward tension was going to be the death of you. it was like all those years of being friends were nothing and you guys are strangers.
“come inside. did you take the painkillers yet?” he asks you, opening the door further as an invitation for you to come inside.
you shake your head causing kazuha to cross his arms and sigh in defeat at the frown on your face. “i’ll get the painkillers. and the water. okay?” you nod again, and it somewhat feels like you’re giving him the silent treatment.
and this makes him a little more nervous than he was before you were awake. he’s so afraid you’re going to randomly tell him that you didn’t mean to do all that stuff that you guys had done last night or that you had been envisioning someone else doing it with kazuha and he still wouldn’t have minded because again, you gave him the opportunity to have a make-out session and a kiss with you even if you weren’t the slightest bit sober.
“here.” he hands it to you, taking a seat on the cushion next to yours.
a moment of silence passes between the both of you guys, afraid of how to go on. both of you guys were showing hesitation, so you start instead of him this time because it seemed too many times he has had the upper hand.
“were you ever going to tell me about the things that happened when i was drunk yesterday?” you turn to him, putting the cup of water down onto the table.
kazuha’s eyes widen at the sudden question that he had been somewhat dreading all morning.
“well, i was going to ask you if you remembered anything from last night, but i guess i have my answer now.” he gives you a slight smile.
“but if i hadn’t said the things i said right now, would you have told me?” you ask him a little more harshly this time. you wanted answers from kazuha. real answers.
“probably not.” your heart drops when kazuha says this.
why wasn’t he going to tell you if you guys had kissed?
“why?” your voice cracks and it sounds desperate. kazuha gasps at this, surprised that you guys were even capable of having this kind of conversation with each other.
“because.” he stops to turn and look at you. “i know that i’m going to ruin this friendship. and i don’t want that. what if you were to tell me that you weren’t actually intending for that to happen and that you only used me to think about someone else while we were doing it? what happens then? my heart is crushed and i never believe in love ever again. and it’s the most soul crushing-thing i don’t want to happen. you know my attempts in high school and how they ended up. they never ended up well.” he stops, before he goes on again.
“and this has happened before. when we had made out and you had forgotten it when i tried to bring it up. i don’t want to hear the truth if you aren’t envisioning a future that i’m not in. i’m too in love with you to do that.” he finally finds it in him to say the sentence that you had wanted to hear ever since the first time you had heard it a month ago.
this was the first time kazuha had ever opened up to you about his brain. his mind. what he was thinking in this exact moment, he said everything you had wanted to hear from him. he was opening up about his feelings for you. and you loved it. you loved this so much about him.
“this happened before?” you ask him, genuinely dumbstruck by how much you’ve done to kazuha when you were drunk.
“yes. that time when we were going to study at the coffee shop together but you canceled and got drunk and beidou called me over and we made out. and that was the first time i ever kissed anyone.”
“—look, i get it if you don’t love me or anything but just tell me so i can move on with my life instead of pining over you and dealing with my unrequited love.”
you smile. “i’m in love with you too idiot. but i’m going to need some more details on that make-out session.”

Y/N: 2nd year English Lit major- a struggling one at that. They can and will pick apart anything and everything like it’s a sixth sense thanks to all of the essays that they’ve turned in at 11:58pm. Video game enthusiast on the low. Kicks ass at fighting games.
Yoimiya: 2nd year Fine Art major with a passion for painting, though not the budget for endless tubes of expensive paint. Will text you through the night with WIP updates when you’re trying to sleep.
Ayaka: 2nd year Business major who actually has her shit together. The others envy her organisation skills. Everything she does is aesthetic even without effort.
Beidou: Didn’t go to college but has somehow snuck her way into the friend group through Kazuha. Her and Yoimiya are in charge of organising parties and gatherings. Sometimes with the help of Y/N, that is.
Kazuha: Y/N’s first friend from college, who they met and sat next to in their English class during first year. He dropped out over the summer because he just couldn’t be bothered anymore despite how very capable he clearly was.
Thoma: The only 3rd year in the group. Was a childhood friend of Ayaka’s. The two of them are practically the parents of the group. Without them, everyone else is a hazard. Though, Thoma does accidentally encourage it at times by finding it funny.

warnings : mentions / descriptions of injuries, blood, gore, violence, death, angst, etc.  also not proofread
pronouns used : they/them – gender-neutral.
inspiration / prompt used : as you cupped his face with your hands, he could practically feel his heart cracking under the utterly tender, gossamer pressure your gaze held; you pierced his soul like a single sliver of moonlight would through a canopy of swirling mist after a devastating storm.  eternal, tragic, and never once wavering.  and perhaps it was the slight tinge of salt to the air, or maybe the stray, unmistakable blazing leaf that drifted through the beckoning breeze as though a coaxing from the gods, but whispers of the things he had left unsaid in his tainted and scarred mind began falling from his lips like poetry long since forgotten and hymns that the universe hadn’t heard sung in the past millennia.
pairing: kaedehara kazuha x gn!reader.
A/N: kazuha is honestly such a criminally underrated character, and it’s addicting how freely i can write with him.  if it isn’t made clear throughout, this takes place during the golden archipelago quest where kazuha’s memories are the main focus.  no worries if you haven’t played said quest yet, it’s not too dependent on the lore regardless, but if you have, i tweaked with how it went a bit for the sake of the fic; i couldn’t find any decent replays of the quest and my memory of exactly how it went is a bit hazy, so if i get something wrong, bear with me.  i also just made reader an electro polearm for the sake of simplicity; let me know if you want a specific vision / weapon when requesting!  (please also excuse any characters I may be ooc for) [for returning readers, i’m also testing out a bit of a new aesthetic for my posts; let me know how it looks.]

“Kazuha?”
Your footsteps were slow, careful, as you made your way along the edges of the maplewood floors, one hand gently dragging along the wall to steady yourself as your head relentlessly pounded, vision making it seem like the room was practically swaying beneath your touch.
A few minutes had passed since you and your group consisting of Aether, Mona, Fischl, Paimon, and Xinyan had been torn from the island and rifted to a recreation of Kazuha’s childhood home with the help of the magicked bonsai heirloom, but despite the ample amount of time it may have been for the others to recover, you couldn’t seem to shake the overwhelming sense of vertigo.  And perhaps it was the churning anxiety that had filled you upon realising that Kazuha was missing from the group that made the dizziness linger, but the fact that you couldn’t find him was the only thing you could find yourself concerned with as you finally reached the other side of the room.  Your hands immediately found the grooves in the screen wall, the sound of Fischl and Mona’s bickering ceasing from behind you as you felt all five of them turn to watch you shove the door aside and step past the threshold without a moment of hesitation.
With your energy now focused on taking in your surroundings, your head seemed to automatically clear, leaving you to reach for your polearm secured across your back and ignore Aether and Xinyan’s attempts to call out to you as you slowly made your way down a corridor lined with screens similar to the one you had just pulled aside.  The wood creaked almost hauntedly with every other step you took, head swinging this way and that every so often to ensure that nothing was crouched behind the occasional crate, waiting to pounce and attack you and your friends.  You finally paused when the hallway halted sporadically, nothing but a wall and,a rather out of place looking lever just visible in the dim lighting, turning to conduct a quick headcount of your group as they all caught up and joined you in observing the wall.
Mona was the first to speak, tossing rebellious strands of raven-violet hair out of her face whilst flicking a wrist in the direction of the lever,  “It seems pulling that is our only option.  Perhaps we use Y/N’s polearm to push it down while we all step to the side in case it’s a trap.”
You merely nodded, silently praying that whatever lay on the other side bring you closer to finding Kazuha.
Xinyan, Aether and Paimon seemed to hesitate for a moment, sharing an anxiety-riddled look that you just barely caught out of the corner of your eye but chose to brush off when they finally fell into rank behind you as well.  You sidled to the head of the group that was practically crammed into the corner furthest from the lever and gave your polearm an experimental swing and twirl before slowly leaning forward with the tip of your spear outstretched; even with your form bent and your weight balanced on one leg, you were still just an inch short from reaching the lever.  A small huff of frustration left your lips as you shuffled around haphazardly on the sole of your boot still planted on the ground, practically able to feel the fact that you were about to fall until you felt a hand grasp your free one, the borderline flailing movements of your polearm halting the moment you registered it.
Your head tipped to the side, e/c irises quick to find Aether offering you an assuring smile, which you returned easily before using the newfound balance Aether offered and successfully managing to snag the lever with the dulled edge of your weapon and shove down harshly, the sound of gears turning following almost immediately after.  You watched intently, slowly coming to stand on both of your feet once more as you nodded toward the blonde that had steadied you and his floating companion.
“Thank you, Traveller,”  You managed, flashing him another smile.
“Of course,”  He responded, both of you not wasting a moment further before turning toward the wall just in time to see it practically fold in on itself and reveal a short continuation of the corridor before halting once more, a screen that might as well have been an exact replica of the one you had pushed to reveal the hallway in the first place slightly ajar.
“Well, what’re y’all waitin’ for?  We’ve got a samurai to find,”  Xinyan exclaimed, jogging ahead of your otherwise stationary group of friends, laughter clear in her voice as she coaxed the rest of you after her.  It was more than enough to drag you from your uneasy reverie, glancing over your shoulder to ensure that Fischl and Oz were even still with you, given how uncharacteristically quiet the two of them had been.  Mona seemed to beat you to the punch, though, which seemed to be the case most of the time, falling into step beside the princess and starting up a conversation you couldn’t quite hear.
You knew that they could easily handle themselves, so you hurried after Xinyan with Paimon and Aether on your heels, your polearm swaying rhythmically with each of your strides all the while as you approached where the guitarist stood, apparently trying to get a glance into the room before barging in, given how she had her back turned toward you, practically standing on the balls of her feet to try and see over something that you could only guess was blocking her line of sight.  She turned to you as you approached however, her voice dropping to a cautious whisper,
“I think there’re people in there.”
You looked over your shoulder to confirm that Paimon and the male had heard, the three of you sharing a subtle nod in agreement as the two of them drew their weapons while you summoned forth a bout of electricity that you could feel practically sparing beneath your fingertips in response.  Xinyan nodded once more, mouthing a countdown and pivoting on her heel to shoulder the door open the moment she reached three.
Drafts of sunlight illuminated the room that you quickly discovered was a dojo of sorts, given the various swords pinned to the walls and the cushioned mat floors, taking in at least six samurai that you typically found guarding the outskirts of Inazuma bristling at your sudden arrival.  Adrenaline instinctively began coursing through you, sizing up the pyro-wielders all the while.
The terse silence didn’t last longer than a few skipping beats, shattered by an unintelligible order one of the samurai barked that made the rest of them instantly charge forward, faces obscured by their armour and the beginnings of their attacks.  You didn’t waste a second; you darted toward the closest one, slamming the end of your polearm into the floor and using your own momentum to launch you forward, careening straight into their side and sending them sprawling on the floor, if only for a moment.  But you were ready for the oncoming blow you could have seen from a mile away, ducking to avoid the searing nick of their flames and heated blade just by an inch, a frown taking residence on your features as you did so.  In your crouched position, you swung your spear so that it slammed right into the back of their knees, once again sending them stumbling to the side and allowing you the opportunity to call upon the crackling electricity and make it limn your lithe and fluid attacks.
The sharpened blade of your polearm found purchase in one of the ridges of the knight’s armour, repeatedly sending jolts of your electricity through the tip to further daze your opponent before you leapt upward swung it in a flourishing arc to pierce through their back and make them fall to the floor a moment later.
You were barely given a moment to recover, sides heaving and sweat beading along your forehead, when you came face to face with another of the pyro-samurai.  He didn’t seem too pleased at the sight of his fallen companion, the sound of his sword drawing making you nearly scoff.
“If you wanted a turn, all you had to do was ask.”
And then alloy enforced silver met steel as you parried each of his oncoming blows.  Your movements might as well have carried the blessing of the wind, each bound swift and agile while your attacks were calculated and never once hesitating; continuously flowing and devastating.  You practically had the other backed into a corner within a few minutes, each twist and flick of your polearm and sparking shocks bringing you closer and closer to victory.
All up until another electro samurai managed to creep up on you and slice through the right arm of your traditional Inazuman robes to create a searing gash that stretched from your shoulder to your elbow.  Crimson flowed in unforgiving rivers, the sting of his electric-charged sword as it slitted your skin almost enough to blind you as you stumbled backward and bit back a curse as pain blinded you.  Your polearm hung limply at your side, your free hand coming to clutch your injured arm and wince as you heard the slow, predatory steps of your unexpected opponent approach.  Your pulse was thunderous, drowning out even the clashes of your friends’ weapons against the samurais’ and the grating sound of electricity flaring against the heat of fire.  You could feel the ghostly murmur of electrified steel cutting through the tangibly thick air, your grip on your weeping wound tightening, praying to whoever may have been listening that this was the slim chance you survived.
However, just as you heard the threatening riff of electricity dancing along the samurai’s sword, you risked a final glance just in time to see Mona twisting out of the way to avoid the oncoming attacks of the pyro samurai you had previously cornered, her hand flicking hastily in your direction and a wave of hydro careening straight for your unknowing attacker.  You barely gave yourself the opportunity to blink before you were shoving aside your pain, setting your jaw and shoving yourself into an avoiding tumble just as the samurai raised his sword.  The pressured stream of water sent him stumbling right into the wall as you dropped to the floor, springing back to your feet a beat later and not even hesitating before you plunged your spear into his back.  In that moment, like a symphony ceasing an intricately woven piece at such a moment that made a song feel as though it was left at a cliffhanger, the dojo fell silent, the only audible sounds left being the heaves of sighs and pants from your friends as they glanced around the room, eyes locking every so often.
You withdrew your polearm after you sent Mona a weary smile, withdrawing your polearm with minimal effort, hearing the sound of the samurai’s body slump to the floor almost instantaneously, before you retrieved the torn shred of your robes and made quick work of binding your wound with it efficiently.  You ensured that it was tied tightly, dabbing up the excess blood with the flitting ends of your makeshift bandages, more than relieved to see that it had staunched the blood flow while your friends slowly milled about the room, checking the walls for any more levers.
You had just finished resituating your robes and dusting off the knees of your pants when familiar black boots embroidered with gold stitching entered your line of sight, to which you tipped your head back up only to be met with the sight of Aether and Paimon floating by his shoulder once more.  He gestured with a gloved hand to your bandaged upper arm, a slightly abashed smile taking residence upon his features as he spoke,
“I’d. . . offer to help you patch it up, but I wouldn’t think any of us have the proper materials.”
You nodded with a weary smile of your own, brushing aside his offer politely,  “Ah, it feels better already, so I wouldn’t worry too much.  Thank you, though.”
“Of course,”  He nodded before glancing over his shoulder as Xinyan with Mona and Fischl trailing after her approached, the six of you gathered once more.
“You okay there, N/N?”  The thick-accented guitarist queried as she observed your bicep and the blood that had dried on your hands, leaving you to nod, about to respond before your eyes fell on yet another lever they must have missed from across the dojo.
You sidled past the group hastily, mind finally back on track to finding Kazuha once more as you swiftly approached the lever, not even hesitating as you grasped it and shoved it down, feeling the ground rumble beneath the soles of your boots and gears once again click into place, just as they had when you’d pulled the first lever.  You tapped your polearm against the wooden panel testily, flinching when it seemed to respond to the contact and jolted backward to reveal yet another winding corridor.  You gave the group another exasperated look over your shoulder and a quick wave as a gesture for the rest of them to follow before stepping past the threshold and being met with dusty shafts of sunlight pouring through the paper-like ceiling and painting the way in a muted beige light.  Crates and discarded weapons of all sorts littered the floor, faded renditions of maple leaves drifting in a phantom breeze just barely visible along the walls, every delta you observed as you slowly walked, weapon lightly clutched in your uninjured hand, hoping that the short break for your bandaged arm would help make the pain subside.  You could only pray that you found Kazuha safe and get out of the blasted place as soon as possible.
You were about to turn the corner when you heard a flurry of almost distorted voices, instinctively throwing your back up against the wall and quieting your footsteps, grip on your polearm tightening as you carefully leaned over to get a quick look at who was speaking.   The breath was stolen clear from your lungs, much to your pleasant surprise, when you stole a glance just around the bend, only to find familiar red-streaked pale tresses and unique Inazuman robes flitting about as Kazuha shifted in his crouched position, a mere few feet away from where you stood.  You hesitated to approach, however, as your eyes glossed over his mourning expression.  It was only then that you recalled the voices you had heard just a beat prior, and when you finally mustered the courage to clear the corner, you saw the flicker of silhouettes against the screen that Kazuha was stopped in front of – two of them, to be precise – and you almost immediately recognized one of the two voices.  You could only guess he was watching a memory of his unfold, given how distracted he seemed to be; so much so that he didn’t even realise your slow approach, taking in the scene all the while.
“I’m sorry, but I just don’t understand!”  The seemingly younger figure of Kazuha exclaimed, the fret that was lacing his voice almost enough to make you flinch as you finally paused your steady steps a good two feet away from him.
“Kazuha, have you forgotten our promise?”  The other person replied, clearly older, perhaps his father, replied, an almost cutting edge to his voice as he spoke.
“You really want to give it all up?  But– but even if we’re having a rough time, you still have me by your side!  Can’t I be of any help?  When you were my age, you were already helping grandfather out.  Am I so incompetent that I’m a disappointment to you?  Or. . .”
You could feel your very soul ache at the younger version of your friend’s words, sparing him a sympathetic look only to jolt back to the retelling of his memory as his father whipped around to face the child,  “Kazuha! –” His tone faltered, the way his ways must have met his crestfallen expression left up to your imagination, given the lack of distinguishable features because they were merely whispers of shadows now, which only made it all the more heart wrenching as you heard the older male’s words slowly gain a more caring, hesitant limn; he released a sigh.  “Now you’re blaming yourself for all this. . . that is why I’ve failed you as a father.”
He continued, clearly readying himself to apologise, only to stop mid sentence, both apparitions of the shadows suddenly dissipating as though they had never been there in the first place.  You were startled out of your reverie at that, e/c stricken irises slowly turning to Kazuha to find him already looking back at you.  Neither of you said a word for another beat or two, the way he shifted almost uncomfortably before dropping his gaze bringing a worrying frown to your expression.  You dropped down to the balls of your feet in front of him after taking a step or two toward him, now at eye level with him.
You gently set your polearm on the floor beside you before you took both of the wanderer’s hands in your own, his bandaged palm handled with care as you beckoned his attention back to you.  You managed an assuring smile this time, hoping that you hadn’t come across as intrusive by stumbling upon him in such a vulnerable moment.  He beat you to the punch, crimson gaze finally meeting your own once more,  “I. . . apologise.  I was looking for you and the others, but it seems I got sidetracked.”
He bowed his head in apology, to which your brow knitted together at his uncharacteristic behaviour; no matter the situation, you had never once seen Kazuha’s calm and collected demeanour falter.  You squeezed one of his hands carefully before settling into a seated position on the floor, hoping to coax his eyes back to your own, tone quiet and assuaging as you spoke,
“You have no need to apologise, I completely get it.  I know it’s not always great, having to relive all the bad memories, this time a bit literally, and all, but I’m here for you, okay?  Anything you need, I will do it for you in a heartbeat.”
That seemed to be enough to get his attention, considering he slowly tipped his head back to lock gazes with you once more, his expression of tentative takenabackness making you feel as though your heart was slowly chipping away.  Your understanding smile overtook your features in hopes that it would make him feel at least a bit better.  He released a shaky sigh, the telltale glimmer of tears forming gilding his eyes in an almost silver light, watching as he fumbled with his words and attempted to conceal his faltering hold on his facade.
Your hands were moving from his own before you even realised it, fingers carefully dancing along his cheekbones to wipe away the stray tears that had fallen from his lashes before you shifted just a bit closer, now raised on your haunches as you took his face in your hands.  Once again, a subtle air of surprise passed over Kazuha at your sudden actions and the careful movements that held nothing but pure, gentle affection you made as you held him, making your shoulders rise and fall as you drew in deep breaths; a silent gesture for him to follow your actions.
[brief switch to kazuha’s pov]
As you cupped his face with your hands, he could practically feel his heart cracking under the utterly tender, gossamer pressure your gaze held; you pierced his soul like a single sliver of moonlight would through a canopy of swirling mist after a devastating storm. Silent murmurs of all the things he still wanted to say to you.
He followed your unspoke instructions, his originally shallow breathing slowing to match yours – anything to keep all your attention on him in that moment.  He couldn’t quite recall when he’d become so fervently greedy, but perhaps discovering something that you truly desired could turn your entire personality around on a moment’s notice.
As you both relaxed once more, your hands still acting as his gentle and mindful tether, his warding from the thoughts that were surely waiting for just the right moment to overtake him once more, he couldn’t help the brief moment in which his eyes slipped from your gaze and to your lips, an almost unrecognisable pull practically shoving him to make the move that had been on his mind since the moment he had met you.
Over the months that the two of you had grown closer, you had slowly begun to slowly circle one another, the fleeting touches and prolonged eye contact – such cliches that he’d read a hundred times over in poems, novels, short stories, and yet, when it came to you, those moments could only be labelled as indescribable and heart stopping.  You were in a constant cycle of making the final move in an unfinished chess game, unsure of whether you either wanted to find out what awaited you once you finished it.
Perhaps this was the moment in which the flourishing and prolonged dance along a constantly wavering line ended.  At least, he hoped so.
It all came rushing back to him at once, as though his brief reverie spent reminiscing on your previous interactions had somehow stopped time in its tracks, not even risking a glance back up to your eyes in fear that he would see an expression of fear or disgust on your face rather than a reciprocation of the tender one he had managed just before he leaned toward you.  And when his lips finally met yours, he could have sworn to Celestia and back that he felt your electro vision sparking flecks of stardust across the panes of his face.
Rather than you immediately pulling away as he had feared you would, you instead went stiff for a moment, making him second guess his actions and nearly pull away himself until you wrapped your arms around the back of his neck and returned the kiss tenfold.  All the lingering feelings that had put him on edge being back in the place where his childhood had been turned upside down right over his head dissipated and for the first time in years, after all the time spent wandering the nations, grieving all the losses he’d come to know and the futures that could have been, he felt as though he’d finally found a place to call home.
Not on the other side of the screen, where his father stepped down from the role as his guardian that he hadn’t been too good to begin with.
Not seated on the carpet where he’d played marble checkers for hours on end to occupy himself while the clan of his family met and discussed coming events and brewing conflicts.
But, rather, with you.  Your arms wrapped around him and holding him so closely with more care than he could have ever remembered anyone taking the time to show him in years – as though he was the most precious thing to you and he basked in such a notion.  It made him sick to think that the lack of attention paid to him as a child had made even the thought of affectionate touch such a foreign concept but one that he had craved nevertheless; a carnal thought that practically rotted away his heart by the second.  But there was the underlying gratefulness that he’d be able to experience it, all of it, with you for the first time.  It made it special, tethered his soul to yours in every sense.
Slowly, hesitantly, his hands came to place themselves at your hips, returning your fleeting touches as his fingers danced along the small of your back, never settling somewhere for too long.
After a few beats longer, you both drew back, gasping for air, his hands still at your hips, your arms still around your neck, before your eyes locked.  When he’d imagined this moment, the way he did a million times over just as he was drifting on the verge of sleep, he always thought he would say something to you – recite the verse of a sickening love poem to bring a smile filled with laughter to your face, or perhaps those three eternally romanticised words would bloom in the air like the first blossoms of spring.  Instead, silence followed.  And he couldn’t have wanted it another way.
[switchback to [name]’s pov]
You could practically feel your soul slipping from your body the moment you and Kazuha parted from each other, air filling your searing lungs only for it to hitch in your throat the moment your eyes met his once more.  Your hand had slipped up to gently hold the side of his face, a soft smile gracing your lips before you leaned in and gently pecked his cheek, this time standing up as you pulled away and offering him your hand as he climbed to his feet as well.  He took it, glancing between your intertwined fingers and to your unwavering grin, returning it after a beat, and he looked as if he wanted to say something, the words nearly ready to flutter in time with your heartbeat from his parted lips, only for the two of you to jolt up and away from each other as you both felt a hand clamp on your shoulder and Xinyan’s voice exclaim loudly in triumph,
“Ha!  Told ya’ I’d find them first, Aether!”
You looked over your shoulder in time to see the rest of the group file through the corridor you had come just a few minutes before – how long had it been?  Time seemed oddly obscured in this wayward memory-scape.  The traveller offered you a kind smile before looking to Xinyan as she called out to him, a soft laugh sounding from him and a scoff of disapproval from Mona.
“Must you be so loud?”
“Loud?  I’ll show ya’ loud!”
You could only roll your eyes and meet Kazuha’s gaze over Xinyan’s head as the wave of bickering surrounded the two of you, the final scraps of the serenity from your shared moment not too long ago still remaining through all the discord.  The smile the two of you wore seemed to allow a small window for Aether to read into, silently herding the rest of the group away from you and allowing you a final moment of understanding silence before heading off with the rest of your friends to find your way out of the labyrinth of memories, but rather than facing ones that seemed daunting, you held your head high at the thought of the ones you’d just experienced.
A/N: the ending is literally so bad !!  but this has been sitting in my drafts for months and wanted to wrap it up.  lmk if i should do a part two?  maybe of reader’s memory scape??  It’s been a while since the event, obviously, so i’m not gonna remember all the technical terms, unfortunately.   have a great day/evening, thank you so much for reading, it means a lot!

"that test was so hard! i studied all last night and even made myself notecards. i don't think i'll ever begin to comprehend chemistry. whatever. anyway, what did you get for question seven? i put-" you stop talking when you notice kazuha was off in another dimension.
kazuha was looking down at his phone, only humming in agreement to whatever words slipped past your lips. you could probably be plotting a murder out loud and he would still continue his humming.
you shut the door to your locker before leaning against it. "kazuha are you even listening to a word i'm saying?"
"mhmm." kazuha hums, eyes still glued to his phone screen.
you huff in annoyance. you take kazuha's phone out of his hands. "if you don't wanna talk about the test then just tell me."
kazuha tilts his head in confusion, trying to reach back for his phone but you kept it securely placed in your hand and out of reach. "what do you mean?"
"clearly," you raise his phone. "you weren't interested in what i had to say."
you take a look down at kazuha's phone, realizing that he was texting someone. you briefly looked at the contact. it was a girl you've seen around campus, and you and kazuha even had english class with her. you've never spoken to her but she was no doubt very pretty.
realizing that you were probably looking at kazuha's phone for too long, you shove it back into his hands. "well i should get going now. bye." and you left before kazuha could even get a word in.
-
that evening when you got home, all you could think of was kazuha. and that girl.
who was she really? and why did kazuha have a sudden interest in her? kazuha isn't one to suddenly approach people and start becoming friends. so in reality, you were just a bit suspicious and worried for your friend.
yes, a worried friend looking out for her best friend. that's all it was, nothing more.
but deep down in your heart you knew it was more. but you would never confess it to yourself.
-
"alright class, who would like to go next?"
if the chemistry test yesterday wasn't enough to kill you, presenting in front of your entire english class would be. you sink deeper into your chair and avoid contact, praying to the universe your teacher wouldn't call on you.
"alright then, kazuha. would you please come up and present your poem?"
you quietly exhale a breath of relief. you shoot your eyes at kazuha to give him a playful raspberry, but he was looking at her. the pretty girl behind him who he was texting yesterday and she winked at him and mouthed something that he smiled at.
you feel your cheeks warm in embarrassment and you turn your gaze back to the front of the classroom.
"this poem took me awhile to write, but it is inspired by something, or rather someone, that i could write pages of poetry about." kazuha smiled and then he began.
whenever kazuha performs his poetry, it feels like a performance. the mic is his and the world is his stage. you've always been mesmerized when listening to beautifully constructed words flow out of his mouth with such confidence and ease. poetry is his second language and anyone would be lucky to listen to it once in their lifetime.
the poem was about a person. an extraordinarily beautiful person who has the cutest smile and a wonderful laugh. their presence makes a room light up and their eyes are pools of wonder that can trap you in enchantment. the person in kazuha's poem sounds like an ethereal being.
you weren't snapped out of your trance until the entire class began to clap.
"bravo, kazuha! that was a stunning poem! thank you for sharing it with us." the teacher beamed.
kazuha walked back over to his seat, glancing in your direction. you averted your eyes from eye contact and focused elsewhere.
-
when the bell rang, you were the first person out. that poem had to be about her. who else could be so beautiful that kazuha just had to capture her presence into words?
you knew you had no right to be upset. but the least kazuha could've done was tell you about his stupid little crush. you were his best friend after all, right?
"y/n, y/n wait! stop walking!" kazuha caught up to you, slightly out of breath. "damn you're a fast walker."
you sigh, about to walk away again. "kazuha i really can't miss calculus and i'm already-"
before you could fully walk away, kazuha took ahold of your hand to stop you. you look down at his hand holding yours and he quickly pulls away.
kazuha slightly furrowed his brows in confusion. "what's up with you?"
you scoff, absolutely appalled with him. he has the nerve to add you what's up when he's the one who's been ignoring you? "what's up with me? what's up with you, kazu? you could've told me that you liked that girl you know."
"what?" kazuha tilted his head. "like what girl?"
"don't play dumb. that girl you were googling eyes at in class. the same one you were texting yesterday. the same one you wrote your poem about." you didn't mean to say that last line, but it accidentally slipped.
kazuha's face softened and he took a step closer to you. "y/n, are you... jealous?"
your eyes widen in surprise, not expecting that from him. now that kazuha said it out loud, you suppose you were jealous. but jealous of what? his feelings for her? did you secretly wish that it was you he had feelings for?
"i-" you stutter, not knowing what to say.
kazuha inches even closer, cautiously taking ahold of your hand. "first off, that girl is my science partner. i was texting her yesterday because i was really invested and distracted with my project. i'm sorry i should've been listening to you. secondly, i wasn't 'googling eyes' at her, she was giving me reassurance about my poem because... because.."
your voice was barely above a whisper, "because what?"
"because that poem was about you, y/n. i wrote it about you."
your whole stomach erupted with butterflies in that moment, fireworks going off in your brain, systems malfunctioning— kazuha wrote a love poem about you.
he looks down at his feet, a soft blush forming on his cheeks. "i like you. i'm sorry i didn't tell you sooner."
you find the courage to bring your palm up to his face, forcing him to look back at you.
"i like you too. i'm sorry for assuming things."
kazuha smiles, bringing down the hand you have on his cheek. "i know you're late to calculus, but can i kiss you?"
you giggle before leaning in for a sweet kiss.
"screw calculus."

liar ♡
---
characters included: kazuha ♡

warnings: pregnant! female-bodied! reader, angst, abandonment, crying, sadness
---
pronouns: female-bodied reader, but no her or she pronouns <3
---
"kazuha, are you alright?" "hm...? o-oh, yes. i'm fine, love"
he can't shake it. for weeks, this one feeling just hasn't gone away. he feels there needs to be a layer of caution placed upon himself in your presence, a feeling he's never felt, ever. he doesn't yet possess the knowledge as to why this churning in his gut continues to happen, but time will tell, I suppose.
"kazuha, do you, want children? one day, I mean."
the question was harmless and innocent, and at this point, only natural. the two of you had been an item for five years at this point, and were now in your mid 20's. you had recently stumbled upon old friends of yours, who had given birth to their first child. the one thing that startled kazuha, however, was your look. the expression of admiration and envy you wore when watching that child explained everything for itself. he knew, now, what it was you wanted.
"good question, but i'm not sure. I haven't given it any thought."
liar. he had given it thought. much thought. for the past week, that exact thought kept him awake for hours, as he tossed and turned, trying to avoid the thoughts that invaded his mind.
"oh..."
---
he knew it. he knew it the minute you ran up to him, a bright smile engulfing your charming face. the moment you told him you were pregnant, his world crumbled. a family? he'd never had one, and suddenly he had his own? it made no sense.
"you're...pregnant?"
your smile faded.
"y-yes? is there something wrong with that?"
"no, not at all. this is...wonderful news."
"I know right? we're going to be a family!"
"yes, yes we are"
that night, everything seemed darker. the shadows seemed larger, the bed seemed colder, and his mind only ran faster. enough was to be had, and kazuha rose from your shared bed, slipping into his regular attire. slipping out of the bedroom, he grabbed his anemo vision, the glowing orb resting in its case. hand on the doorknob, he sighed, about to head out when he heard your sleepy voice,
"kazuha? where are you going...?"
the sleepy and innocent look in your eyes crushed him, your pure mind completely unaware of what he was about to do.
"just for a walk, love. I'll be back soon"
liar.
"oh, would you like me to come with you?"
liar.
"no...I'll be alright."
liar.
"oh, okay..."
liar.
he watched your form disappear into the darkness, hearing the distant sound of the bed creak, signaling your return to it. he almost felt sorry for you, sorry that he had to abandon you like this. opening the door, he left, not to return.
---
"it's cold..."
that was your first thought. you opened your eyes, only to see his side of the bed empty. the sheets were cold, the warm body of your lover missing. rising from your bed, you searched the whole house, but he was nowhere to be found.
---
it was three weeks later when you received a letter, addressed to you. you opened the intricate envelope, reading the letter:
my dearest (Y/N),
hello, I'm aware that we've not spoken in a while. if you're wondering where I am, which knowing you, you probably are, I shall tell you. I'm away. away on a trip. one I will never return from.
"what?"
I'm sorry I've abandoned you like this, and I know it must hurt. I cannot bear to watch you suffer, but for a family, I am not ready. the chained love that once bound us, I'm afraid is gone. it has faded, and I'm afraid it will not return. like waves on the sea, my mind can change in an instant. I'm sorry it's changed now, of all times.
tears began to spill.
I love you, but not nearly as much as I once did. it's not fair to tie you down in a way such as this, so (Y/N), I'm setting you free.
you sobbed.
you are indeed the last of your kind as I've always told you, and I hope you find someone who realizes that and embraces it, unlike me. before I fully set you free, there is something I want you to know.
when you decide to move on, please, don't let these painful memories blind you. as far as our child goes, please don't reject them. it's not their fault I've left, it's mine. don't let the past remind you of me, let it remind you of better memories.
farewell, (Y/N)
kazuha
you ran. you ran as fast as you could, away. away from everything. from kazuha, from your child, from your house, everything.
you found yourself at the alcor, sprinting desperately below deck into the captain's cabin. slamming the door open, you collapsed, letter in hand, panting desperately. the captain's eyes widened, scooping you up, calling for help while studying your letter.
---
he had watched. he had watched from afar as you opened the letter, breaking down in a state of shock and despair. it hurt him, yes. but he was a liar. he couldn't help it. he was running away. running away out of fear, something he had always done. he was clawing his way out of his pit of despair, only to lose balance and fall into the abyss once again. he told you he'd always be with you, he told you he'd never leave you, but then again,
he was a liar.

"I'll be here from now.."
Angst
Kazuha x reader
Summary: kazuha realises how much he is neglecting his own fiancé.
Tumblr media
"Kadehara kazuha."
Your words ringed loudly in his ears, right now he was running. Running to find you. His legs were trembling, he was shaking with fear but all now that matters was you. He missed you, he missed how you and he was before.
"Kazuha! You got a vision! When I get mine we need to duel!"
Those sweet words, yet he wasn't there when you gained your vision.
Nor had he gave you letters, where you saw all your other friends receive from them.
He's sorry, he needs you. He can't loose you too. Where were you?- where are you? He won't leave your side again!! Just come back to him. Sleep in his arms while he kisses your temple
"Kazuha! Happy Birthday!! I know it's the middle of night and all but I'm the first one to wish you yet again!"
Yes, you were always first. You are his first, he loves you "(Name). . . (Name)!" He fell down, his legs wobbly. Salty water was tasted at his tongue, only to realise it was his tears. He was late, he was late again.
"Looks like you don't need me anymore."
"Dear kazuha, your eyes shines bright. "
"My lovely fiance, after you're ready find me."
"I'll wait. But right now, I need time."
"Dear, Y/N."

"I have to go," they said. Their face was void of any emtion. Their empty eyes bore holes into yours as they held you hand gently.
"I know," you replied, "but before you go, take this." You handed them a small silver ring, barely worth anything but it felt like you placed the world in their hands. Probably something better. Hope? Home? Your heart? Neither of you knew.
"You know I'd take you with me if I could," they said, "right?"
"I know."
"I'm sorry."
"I know."
"Will we be ok?"
The rain was pouring heavily as your breath hitched. Both of you were soaked to the bone, basking in each other's presence. You didn't know. You couldn't offer comforting words or confirmation that you two would be ok in the end. All you could do was give them something to remind them of you.
"Do you think we'll meet in the future?" you asked.
They gave a hollow laugh. "Maybe," they said, "if you believe in fate."
You let a small hum and dropped his hand with the ring in it.
"Goodbye (character name)."
"Why do you always stare at that ring?" their friend asked.
"It reminds me of someone who was very dear to me."

“Why did you ask me to be your girlfriend, then?”
The question hit him like a truck. It was one he had been avoiding for the longest time, but since it was finally asked, he had to find an answer. To him, the term “girlfriend” was very loosely described. Is it someone who you spend everyday with? Or someone that you sleep with? Or someone that you kiss, and love, and cherish? Then at least everyone in his life fit the bill for “girlfriend,” or “boyfriend.”
He spends everyday with his coworkers in the Fatui, but they’re not his partners. He’s fucked many other women before her, so were they also girlfriends? And what a joke, there’s nobody he loves or cherishes outside of himself. The question was stupid.
He chose not to answer and continue to give his undivided attention to the report in front of him. “Hello?! I’m talking to you!” She pushed everything off the desk. The paperwork, the ink pot, the flowers, everything.
Scaramouche pushed his chair back and stood, holding his arms out to look at the ink staining his clothes. “I honestly don’t know, because you’re the biggest bitch I’ve ever met!”
“Don’t you dare call me that!” She yelled, grabbing his shirt and pulling him to her.
He pushed her arms off of him and shoved her aside into the bookshelf. “Don’t put your fucking hands on me. Just because I allow you to spend your time with me doesn’t mean you can run your bitchy little mouth.” She looked at him in disbelief, the throbbing pain in the back of her head sending stars around her head. “All that mouth is good for is sucking my dick, so shut the fuck up.”
“It’s cold outside,” your boyfriend called out to you, running over and slipping your arms through the jacket.
“Thank you, honey,” you said, pursing your lips to welcome a kiss.
He smiles and kisses you, cupping your face. He leans into the kiss until your back finds the wall, his hand running down your face, to your neck, and to your waist. He squeezes the skin there and pulls your pelvis to him, pressing his back into yours.
You feel his tongue slide into your mouth, the kiss turning wetter and sloppier. “Kazuha!” You whine in his mouth, pushing him off of you. “We’re gonna be late!”
He desperately pulls you back in, unable to control his desire, and finds purchase back on your lips. “I’m sorry, you just look so good,” he pouts, reaching behind to grab a handful of your ass.
“Yeah well, I’m hungry!”
It was your one year anniversary with Kazuha and he got the two of you private seating at Third-Round Knockout. You had been wanting to go for a while, but Scaramouche never took you. “It’s a waste of money,” he’d say as he turned down the suggestion. So when you told Kazuha, he was more than willing to go.
It was his favorite restaurant seeing as he and Beidou went all the time. Except this time he wouldn’t be dragging anyone out of drunk fights and single handedly pack up everyone’s dishes. He especially liked their desserts, and promised he’d buy you one, even if you said you didn’t want it.
Kazuha was immediately so different from your ex. He was kinder, gentler, more respectful, and most of all he loved you. It was weird dating your ex’s best friend and you felt bad about it, especially since you ruined their long-time friendship. But from the day he met you, Kazuha was enamored. Every day that went by, he thought about you. He wanted to take you out, show you off, love you, make love to you, and for you to call him yours. He wanted to make you proud to have him, wanted you to love him the way he loved you. And when it came down to it, he was right there beside you to comfort you when Scaramouche finally said goodbye.
He knew his best friend like the back of his hand. Scaramouche got tired of things very quickly, and he never had a problem finding something new to entertain him. For someone with a terrible attitude and a vulgar mouth, Scaramouche was always breaking hearts.
Kazuha didn’t have many partners. In his experience, women were greedy and petty. Men were controlling and abrasive. Overtime he had come to give up on finding love. But then he met you— you were so kindhearted and patient. You always said yes to Scaramouche and you would defend him until you passed out (figuratively.) Kazuha felt that his best friend didn’t appreciate you. He didn’t see your worth. But Kazuha did. And now that he had you he wasn’t going to let you go.
Kazuha watched as you clapped excitedly as the waitress brought your cake dessert. “Be careful,” he chuckled, his heart warm with love. “It’s not a sweet cake.”
“What kind of cake isn’t sweet?” You joke, swiping cake onto your spoon and funneling it into your mouth. The bitterness hit your tongue after a delay. You open your mouth and spit it out, making a grossed out face.
Laughing, Kazuha takes a napkin to your cheek. “I told you it was bitter, silly.”
“No!” You whined, pushing the plate away. “You said it wasn’t sweet!”
“Oh, I’m sorry honey,” he snickered, pulling the plate to him and taking a bite. “Mmm!”
Scaramouche sat at his private table with a scowl on his face. He didn’t want to be here, and he definitely didn’t want Mona to come. “Can you at least try to look happy for him?” She scoffed, rolling her eyes as she clapped in celebration.
Up at the front with a medal on his shawl, Tartaglia gave a thank you speech for the Tsaritsa and his fellow harbingers. This event was a celebration for Tartaglia and Singora’s success in retrieving Morax’s gnosis. It was funny seeing him up there as he had no clue of his role in the ploy.
Scaramouche was never one for shindigs and he especially wasn’t one for the eleventh harbinger. He was too friendly, he’d say if you asked. “People who are too friendly are hiding something.”
One thing he didn’t like about the harbinger was how kind and loving he was to you while you were together. He saw it as a ploy to get you, take you from him. He thought he was going to be the one there for you when he left, but the harbinger was nowhere to be found. Instead, he saw his best friend stab him in the back.
He watched the young harbinger walk from the front to hug and chat with people. What a load of bullshit, he thought. “If I take a gnosis, kill me before they throw a party, okay?”
Mona rested her elbows on the table, leaning into it and looking around awkwardly. “Don’t worry, I’ll kill you before you can even take a gnosis.”
He watched on at Tartaglia’s seemingly genuine cheer as he excused himself from the people he was stuck with, practically running over to more people to stroke his ego. “Hey,” Mona sort of laughed. “Isn’t that…”
Tartaglia ran up to two very familiar people. “[Y/N],” he breathed, slamming his hands on the table and standing to his feet. What the hell were you doing here? You were no longer tied to the Fatui, you shouldn’t have even been let inside! But there you were, embracing the harbinger and pulling him closer to you to look at the medal. And right beside you, smiling and shaking his hand, was none other than his best friend, and your new boyfriend, Kazuha.
Scaramouche took off, stalking over to the three of you looking for answers. Kazuha noticed first, raising his hands to reassure that he wasn’t there to insult your ex. Tartaglia noticed next, after your boyfriend’s sudden stance of defense. You only picked up on it when suddenly nobody was listening to you. Kazuha forced a smile and greeted the harbinger. “Hello, Scaram—”
“Shut the fuck up,” he bit, pushing the samurai aside. “What the hell are you doing here?” He asked, shoving a finger into your chest.
“I invited them,” Tartaglia cut in, putting an arm between you and Scaramouche, removing his hand from your chest. “And I purposely reserved a table for them far away from you. Besides, where’s your girl, huh? Just leave her behind?”
Scaramouche clicked his tongue in annoyance and eyed you up and down. You looked…nice tonight. It wouldn’t have been the outfit he would’ve chosen, but you wore it well nonetheless. Kazuha placed his hand on Scaramouche’s shoulder, turning him around to face him. “Not even going to say hello to your friend?”
“We aren’t friends,” he hissed, pushing him away once more before stomping off to his table.
“Ah, geez, sorry guys!” Tartaglia groaned, shaking Kazuha’s hand once more. “I was hoping he wouldn’t be an ass tonight. Anyway, it was very nice to meet you Mr. Kadehara. We should all hang out sometime! I gotta go find a bathroom, so I’ll see you later!”

Kazuha x reader/y/n
The sun glowed brightly and the calm winds blew on your face as you sat under a tree humming the sound of waves moving back and forth were very comforting to you and reminded you of to the fun times you had travelling with paimon .you continued to look at the small fish swimming until a kind gentleman approaches you and sits down next to you and introduces him self as kadehara kazuha you have never met him before yet of feel some sort of familiarness you brush it off and introduce yourself as y/n you decided you would trust him (which was a good idea ツ) he offered to take you on a stroll in inazuma you couldn't resist with the face that he was giving you you covered your your face with your fingers to hide the pink tink and agreed to go on a walk with kazuha . When it was finnally time for you to go on a stroll with him you where abit hesitant at first but later then you where more comfortable around him and held his hand he looked down at your hand and blushed and continued to walk.you both had a fun day you both sat under a the same tree you both met at and kazuha laid his head on your lap and heard you mutter something he sat up "am I making you uncomfortable please tell me so I don't do it again . " No no it's nothing please continue . ." He laid back on your lap and accidentally thought out of his head(as in saying something he was going to say/thinking about) "your so stunning ." Your face flushed with pink " "erm. . are you sure . ?" "Y-yes . ." A small leaf fell from the tree and landed in the nearby water you didn't know how to react to this so you just looked into his beautiful crimson eyes and quickly looked back at the water to avoid awkwardness a shooting star flew by and you wished to be with kazuha forever and protect him . You where worried that the relationship between you and him wouldn't last long and you would get heartbroken , kazuha looked up at your worried face and knew exactly what you were thinking about "don't worry darling I won't leave you. " Those words echoed though your mind and made you think of your sibling. Sorry this is a cliffhanger

on nights where kazuha can't sleep, all he can think about is you. laying underneath a million twinkling stars, and yet you're always the one that is going to shine the brightest.
you're the one who usually occupies his dreams. even when you're miles apart, you're the one who he wants to marry one day. to travel the world with, to fight beside, all in sickness and in health.
so when finally being reunited with you after god knows how long, the question kind of just stumbles out of him. "y/n, marry me."

making s'mores at a bonfire
Tumblr media
pairings: kazuha x gn!reader
warnings/content: fluff
a/n: find the rest of my flufftober work here !
Tumblr media
not all nights were like this one. a night where the wind was a soft breeze, brushing past the browning leaves in the forrest, causing some of them to fall onto the floor.
the night was quite, with only the occasional chirping of crickets and the crackling of the bonfire you sat at. nights like these are nights you thank mother nature for. beautiful nights where the stars are on full display, not a single cloud in sight.
and it wouldn't be a special night with out the love of your life. kazuha somehow seemed to melt into the scenery. he looked like he belonged with the forrest — calm and peaceful as the nightfall breeze.
"your marshmallow is about to burn." he softly murmured to you, helping your hands guide the molten mellow away from the fire.
you smile, hovering the marshmallow back over the fire. "i like them burnt, thank you very much." the sass dripping from your tone was enough for a small smile to form upon kazuha's lips. "won't they have an ashy taste? that sounds terrible." kazuha stuck his tongue out at you, blowing a raspberry.
oh this kid. you roll your eyes at him, returning your focus to your marshmallow, that almost as crisp as you'd like. "that's the whole point, kazu. you can have a bite of mine, then you'll see what i'm talking about." curious, kazuha agrees.
once your marshmallow is at the perfect burning temperature, you grab a graham cracker and place the sweet treat right on top. before it can cool down completely, you place a piece of chocolate before finishing it off with a final graham cracker.
kazuha was watching you intently the entire time, watching your hands work at your little treat. "you only put one bar of chocolate?" he teases. "just- here." you huff, shoving the thing into his mouth without warning.
kazuha's hand quickly goes up to his mouth to keep the s'more from falling. it was definitely very hot, and it probably burned his tongue, but even if it did kazuha showed no sign of harm. instead, he chewed the sweet treat with an expression of great thought on his face.
"wellll? don't you love it?" you tease, nudging his shoulder with yours. kazuha wipes some misplaced chocolate on the corner of your lip with his thumb. "it wasn't terrible, if i am honest. but it wasn't exactly revolutionary." at this point in time, you can never tell his teasing apart of his truth.
"oh come on! i know you loved it. don't like to me." you poke your lovers chest with your index finger. kazuha only laughs at your actions, pressing a tender kiss to your cheek. "i suppose it could have been better with some more chocolate."

sfw alphabet x kazuha
Zzz – How do they act when they get sleepy? How is it sleeping in the same bed?
mmm when kazuha gets sleepy, his voice gradually becomes softer and his eyes seem quieter somehow; as if there's no more song left in it for the day. he'll gently rest his head on your shoulder, signaling he's done for the day.
sleeping in the same bed as kazuha is quite relaxing actually. he doesn't move almost at all throughout the night and his very soft snores are adorable. <3
