so let’s talk about this photo and what it means 🚥

disclaimer, this is equal parts fandom reflection and the actual cpn because these two must go together to fully explain this candy. 🍭

Let’s start with the CPN. Short explanation is, turtles are interpreting the photo as a sign of Yibo and his team acknowledging turtles. Knowing all the drama that was going down between so/os and turtles, it is speculated to be a small way of comforting turtles. This photo was posted by Yibo-Official and it is front and center. A really important position if you are making a 9-grid post. I have to agree that it’s a really good capture and deserves the spot, whether it means what we think it means is not something we will ever know. There is a part of me that is happy that even if it was blurred out ( as it should ) we know it’s still there.

and then today, Yibo-official posted a recap of SDC which includes lots of highlights from the show. They chose the same photo and with that red/green turtle light again. turtles are cheering because it “proves” the point that it’s an important photo. If somehow, YBO got wind that certain people didn’t like them using that — they would have scrapped it from the recap post. they didn’t. there is also a fake rumor that went around before all of this where it specifically says Klein Blue, which is also mentioned in the SDC recap post.

In the past, GG liked hats, but recently Xiao Wang was also hooked. There are several Klein blues sent by the brand, and GG helped him wear them.

The word 克莱因蓝 was both in the fake rumor and this Yibo-official post. What a coincidence. What are the chances that YBO will use the same word and focus on that detail. This is the color of his beanie in SDC as well as the whole crew — which is a nod to a popular b-boy crew rocksteady. There is also a really cute detail ( in the same rumor ) where it said XZ will pull the beanie down Web’s eyes & nose and then kiss him 😭😭😭

Finally, some fandom reflection and I will keep this as short as possible cause I don’t wanna repeat myself. I have talked about my thoughts on the whole drama surrounding the SDC finale over here and I have no plans on looking into the incidents further. I initially didn’t want to talk about this CPN because it misses the point of what we should learn from the SDC fan groups drama. Which is — there should be no competition. There is no sense in trying to make Yibo choose between cpf and so/os AND WE SHOULD NOT MAKE HIM CHOOSE. if we did, and if he is forced to, i’m pretty sure cpfs will be letdown. I understand the happiness when Yibo shows a bit of bias towards us but it shouldn’t be something to dwell on and start a fight. I never understood the “need” to seek his approval like a child waiting for their parent’s praises. He appreciates everyone who supports his work. That’s it. The best thing we can do is make him proud of the people who call themselves “yibo fans”.

In the end, whatever negative things people do, yibo will be the one to suffer and take the blame. I take no sides in what happened and whatever may happen in the future. fanwars are never good and are always from a place of selfishness, because if you really do care about yibo, you’d shut your mouth. Let’s just support Yibo and what he does, don’t forget the original intention of protecting the boys.

Weil ich keine Zeit mehr für größere Studien hatte, habe ich mir mal ein kleines Grid abgeschaut. Hat richtig Spaß gemacht! Und bin stolz auf mich, dass ich es sogar fertig gemacht habe. Was steht als nächstes an?

Because I didn't have much time for the bigger studies anymore, I decided to do this grid like I've seen other artists to. It was really fun! And, I am proud of myself for finishing this. What's up next?

Icosahedron model with macrame handle

I finally finished to craft this icosahedron model. It took me long to find the fitting thread to stitch the 12 vertices together.

The side lengths of the equilateral triangles of this model are 2cm.

I used a 1mm thick transparent PVC foil for the icosahedron grid. Each of the 20 faces has 3 holes.

Each vertex has 5 holes through which the thread needs to be stitched. For the stitching pattern I used a 5-star on the outside and a 4/5th or 3/5th circle on the inside of each vertex.

All vertices are connected by a singular thread.

For the handle I used a simple macrame technique - looking like a double helix/twirled handle.

As it consists of a transparent foil, the reflection of light when rotated is really beautiful to look at.

Vintage slides for a proposed Booklein identity circa 1970s.

Booklein (pronounced book-line), named after the Klein News Co. president George Klein (an Ohio wholesale distributor of magazines, newspapers, and paperback books).

In the 1970s, Klein opened Booklein, a retail newsstand, which specialized in selling, you guessed it, magazines, newspapers and paperback books. They also sold tobacco, candy, maps, calendars and lottery tickets. On mallwalkers.net, the Internet Museum of Shopping and Retail History, PS Gitano wrote about Booklein and shared this slogan: “For all the magazines you’ve ever wanted to read…and then some.” https://mallwalkers.net/booklein

Fantastic line drawings with “Vignelli red” accents illustrate a proposed store made of grids on the ceiling, walls, and floor layout. The signage in Vignelli red with white Helvetica lettering. A band of red wraps around the walls labeling each subject section such as “Science,” “Psychology,” “Dance,” “Art,” and “Music.” Suspended light cubes on the celling light up counter top cubes below with signs which say “stationery,” “accessories,” “lamps,” and “wrapping.”

As with any graphic identity system, the proposal also included company van graphics, shopping bags, and stationery. Shopping bags featured the logotype enlarged to wrap around each side of the bag cropping it into fragments of text. One image shows a store front with the logotype stretching across the entire front of the building.

‘Up Side Down” Piet Mondrian's “New York City I,” 1941,

Straight lines in bright red, yellow, blue and black cut through a white canvas, forming a complex grid pattern that represents a skyline. This is one of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian’s famous abstract pieces, titled New York City I—and it may have been hanging upside down in museums since 1945, a year after the painter’s death.

The discovery began with Italian artist Francesco Visalli, who sent an email to a German museum, Kunstammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, last year: “Whenever I look at this work, I always have the distinct feeling that it needs to be rotated 180 degrees,” he wrote, per the New York Times’ Julia Jacobs. “I realize that for decades it has been observed and published with the same orientation, yet this feeling remains pressing.”

While many questions remain, we do have a few clues: A photo of the artist’s studio published in a 1944 issue of Town & Country shows the painting still on its easel, rotated 180 degrees from the way it has been hanging ever since. Mondrian considered the work incomplete and didn’t sign it, which meant that curators weren’t able to use a signature to orient the painting. And in another Mondrian painting— New York City, which is very similar to New York City I—the grid lines thicken at the top of the piece, rather than at the bottom.

Susanne Meyer-Büser thinks the thickening lines are meant to invoke nighttime above New York City. “The thickening of the grid should be at the top, like a dark sky,” she tells the Guardian. “Once I pointed it out to the other curators, we realized it was very obvious. I am 100 percent certain the picture is the wrong way around.”

Now, knowing what we do, will New York City I finally be flipped? Actually, curators are going to leave the artwork the way it is.

“The adhesive tapes are already extremely loose and hanging by a thread,” says Meyer-Büser. “If you were to turn it upside down now, gravity would pull it into another direction.”

Mathematician here, the only as surfaces you can have a ruled grid for are: a plane, a cylinder, a torus (donut), a mobius band, and a Klein bottle. In fact this is true even if you only want one coordinate axis (so just a horizontally rules surface. See the hairy ball theorem on Wikipedia!

(I sort of lied, mathematicians will do this to lots of other surfaces and then make little corners where the grid has a singularity but that's cheating)

nifty, I'll have to see if I can generate all of these!

Pantone Colour System

Pantone Colour is a colour-matching system universally used by many industries, including printing, graphic design, paint and the make-up industry, amongst others.

CMYK Process

In addition to being used in color printing, the CMYK color model is also used to describe the printing process itself. It is a subtractive color model that is based on the CMY color model. Cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (CMYK) are the four ink plates that are utilized.

Yves Klein

The most significant and well-known, French artist to appear in the 1950s was Yves Klein. He is remembered above all for his use of a single color, the rich shade of ultramarine that he made his own, International Klein Blue.

Stanley Whitney

Stanley Whitney is an abstract painter, who has been exploring the formal possibilities of colour. He arranges his highly saturated color fields into gridded blocks separated by energetic, gestural lines.

I found this seminar quite interesting and helpful as I have largely utilised colour in my “Temporary” project.

So gestern war der Umzug von Kauai nach Big Island. Der Tag ging so ziemlich mit reisen verloren. Erst in kauai alles einpacken, Auto tanken (wie immer ein abendteuer, der nette Herr am Schalter musste es dann für mich machen da mich Benzin tanken eh schon überfordert und dann in den USA noch viel mehr). Dann ging’s zum Auto drop off und dann warteten wir am Flughafen. In Honolulu gelandet gabs dann kurz ein paar Komplikationen da erst der für uns vorgesehene Flieger technical difficulties hatte und der Flug für eine Stunde vielleicht länger, dann 1std 20 min verspätet war bis wir dann zu einem anderen Gate mussten und einen ganz neuen Flieger bekommen haben. Mit dem Flieger standen wir dann aber bestimmt auch 20 bis 30 Minuten einfach bis er dann tatsächlich mal zu rollen begann. Das hat den 39 Minuten Flug natürlich etwas verlängert. Aber ich habe meinen Reiseführer gelesen und dientet gut genutzt.

In Hilo angekommen schnappten wir uns unser Auto, irrten zum Safeway da das Navi immer wieder den Empfang verloren hat und machten unseren Futter Einkauf für unseren Container auf dem lavafeld ohne Ofen oder herdplatten. Somit gab es viel Salat. Dann machten wir uns auf den Weg literally ans Ende der Welt. Genauer gesagt in das Lavafeld der Eruptionen von 1983 bis 2017.

Diese zerstörten den Highway 130 und man kommt auch zu unserem Container auf dem lavafeld nur über eine schotterpiste unter der einst der Highway lag. Nun etwas von Lava begraben.

Man muss um zum Container zu finden tatsächlich den Highway bis zum Ende fahren, wo es dann „End of pavement“ angeschrieben steht und auf dem Schotterweg einfach weiter, es hoppelt wie blöd und ist halt einfach eine schotterpiste. Hier haben sich ein paar merkwürdige Leute schäbige Hütten (äußerst Luft durchströmt), Autoschrottplätze oder Container hingestellt und entweder wohnen die da, nutzen es als kleine rape Hütte oder vermieten es als AirBnB oder dumpen nur ihren Müll dort. TBD.

Der Container ist off Grid, somit haben wir nur Strom über Solar, in Batterien, die Mikrowelle kann man nicht lange nutzen wenn es schon dunkel ist da dann die Stromversorgung aufgebraucht ist und dann sitzt man im Dunkeln. Man soll sehr sparsam mit allem umgehen, Lichter aus, nichts über Nacht aufladen, nichts am Stecker lassen wenn man weg ist. Sonst sitzt man im Dunkeln. Wenn man dann im Dunkeln sitzt geht auch das Wasser nicht weil die Pumpe vom Strom betrieben wird. Also sitzt man dann im Dunkeln und im Trockenen. (Ich bete weiterhin dass uns das nicht passiert).

Die ganze Situation hat mich gestern am ankunftstag sehr gestresst. Da komm ich hier an, bin in einer etwas creepy Umgebung, am arsch der Heide, und dann kann es auch jederzeit sein, dass das Licht ausgeht weils ein paar Tage wolking war oder geregnet hat oder die Nachbarn im angrenzenden Container den Ofen benutzen. So ziemlich meine horror Vorstellung hier im komplett Dunkeln am arsch der Heide umgeben von Spinnern zu sein. Nora ist da entspannter gewesen und sagte dann geht man halt früh ins Bett, aber die Entspannung hatte ich gestern eindeutig nicht. Wir haben den ersten Abend dann mit Mikrowellen Futter überstanden (stouffers fettuccini alfredo für mich und ein reisgericht für Nora) und dann hatte ich versucht etwas TV zu schauen, der war aber so laut dass man es nicht ertragen konnte, aber auch leider nicht aufs leiser machen reagierte somit gabs dann eine oder zwei folgen that’s so raven auf dem iPad und dann war bed time.

Tag 2 (eigentlich wie der erste)

Um dann wenn die Sonne aufgegangen ist unsere Geräte aufladen zu können, sind wir am eiegneltovh quasi ersten Tag auf BI früh gestartet und um 7:30 Uhr aufgestanden, haben unsere Geräte gleich an den Stecker gemacht, haben unsere Pappe-gleichen ungezuckerten Homebrand Cheerios gegessen und dann Stullen gemacht und haben es dann irgendwie trotzdem erst um 10 Uhr aus dem Haus geschafft und waren dann um kurz nach 11 Uhr am Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (😍😍😍). Morgens durfte ich, während Nora ihre Wäsche gewaschen hat noch feststellen, dass einer meine Golden Speckled Day Geckos auf der Terrasse des Containers wohnt und beobachtete ihn und bat etwas Banane an, die nicht sehr gut ankam. Das werde ich morgen noch mal versuchen.

Dort fuhren wir erst mal zum Visitor Center und machten uns einen Überblick, ein netterer Herr erzählte uns was er empfehlen würde und das taten wir dann. Wir fuhren die gesamte Chain of Craters Road entlang, erst zum Kilauea Crater und umliefen diesen von allen Seiten und fuhren dann den Rest bis zum Ende und bewunderten den Crater von allen Seiten. Es war erst super wolking, wir standen quasi mitten in einer Wolke und es regnete (da waren dann die Steam Vents eine sehr angenehme Wärme) und um so weiter wir dann um den crater liefern um so mehr bebten sich die Wolken und es hörte auf so zu nieseln. Es war immer noch bewölkt aber kein Regen mehr. Und somit war der Krater dann immer besser zu sehen. Vorne am Parkplatz dieses ersten Kilauea lookouts waren die steam vents die, wie der Reiseführer sagte, gar keine sulfur vents sind, sondern Regenwasser was sich in den ritzen fängt und von der Hitze die im Boden herrscht kocht und dann verdampft.

Dann stiegen wir ins Auto und fuhren die Straße bis ans Ende zum Jagger house welches under construction ist, aber schauten trotzdem noch mal auf Kilauea. Es ist halt einfach cool. Auf dem Rückweg um dann die Strecke bis an die Küste zu fahren sind wir noch mal bei einem Kilauea lookout gestoppt so gerade anscheinend auch ein paar Frauen (nicht alle eindeutig hawaiianisch sondern auch weiße) in Gewand, ein Ritual durchzuführen schienen. Sie sangen in Hawaiianisch zu Kliauea und warfen Blumen und andere Ofergaben in ihren Krater.

Wir sind dann Richtung Küste den Crater Rim Drive gefahren und stoppten quasi überall. Wir schauten in den Kliauea Iki Trail (wird noch einen der Tage gemacht), liefen den Devestation Trail der wie der Name sagt die devastation von einer Eruption 1959 zeigten. War total die verrückte rötliche mondlandschaft durchzogen mit kleinen Büschen von Gras und Polstern einer bodenniedrigen roten Pflanze mit rosa Blüten, wie ein Klee fast. Das Gefühl auf diesen kleinen feinen Lavasteinen zu laufen war total cool und ein super angenehmes Geräusch.

Danach fuhren wir weiter entlang der ganzen crater und stoppten brav an allen. Einer war besonders cool, der Puhimau, da hatte uns der ältere Herr drauf aufmerksam gemacht dass das der einzige Krater ist an dem es ein Echo gibt. Somit haben wir schüchtern in ihn reingeschrien und unser Echo gehört. Das war ziemlich cool da es ganz deutlich und leicht verzögert zurück kam das man es deutlich verstand.

Der Pauahi Krater war auch ganz cool, da er so zwei komplett unterschiedliche Lavaarten direkt nebeneinander bestand.

Danach stoppten wir an dem Parkplatz wo der Naulu Trail beginnt und liefen, wie ich und Isabel damals auch mitten durch die Lava. Das war einfach so cool wie sich meterhoch die Lava auftürmt in komplett unterschiedlichen densities und Farben und porösitäten (falls das ein Wort ist). Manchmal schimmern Aubergine, orange oder mit blau und lila Tönen, manchmal einfach nur schwarz mit manchmal vielen kleinen Blasen, manchmal mit ganz wenigen. Manchmal ganz glatt und seidig fließend und manchmal wie viele kleine blubbels und Geschwüre. Mitten in dem lavafeld gibt’s dann so random riesen runde Hubbel. Und wir haben, was wir glauben dass vielleicht die Fissures waren, Löcher mit Schächten drin in die die Lava abgeflossen ist. Jetzt wächst glücklich ein Farn in dieser windstillen „Höhle“. Aber einfach die erkalteten Formen wie die Lava da runtergströmt sein muss ist echt faszinierend.

Da könnte ich Ewigkeiten rumlaufen. Es ist einfach wie ein Riesen Spielplatz. Und das Gefühl beim laufen variiert von manchmal ganz fester Untergrund zu offensichtlichen Hohlräumen die sich unter der Lava gebildet haben. Einen Lava-Pride Rock hat es auch gegeben da musste ich natürlich auch rumklettern. Lava hat aber, durch die vielen Poren und den scharfen Kanten einen echt guten Griff, es ist überhaupt nicht rutschig und man hat förmlich das Gefühl die Lava hält einen an seinen Gummisohlen fest. Wie so gecko Füße. Sehr gute Haftung (also in sketchers auf jeden Fall, Sandalen würde ich hier auch nicht empfehlen da die Kanten der ´Á´a Lava sehr scharf sind und einem die hehe aufschneiden könnte).

Nach dieser wundervollen Exkursion fuhren wir weiter den Berg runter Richtung Meer und mussten die petroglyphen sowie den Kilauea Iki crater trail auslassen damit wir es rechtzeitig zum Ende der Straße und dann somit wieder hoch schaffen um vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit am Container anzukommen. Im dunkeln ist es ziemlich schwer zu finden. Die Straße die uns wahrscheinlich in weniger als 20 Minuten zu unserm Kontakter bringen würde, ist leider versperrt, somit mussten wir dann wieder unsere Stunde über Kea‘au fahren um dann eigentlich da anzukommen wo wir nur Meter Luftlinie von entfernt waren.

Im Container gabs dann Salat in wraps und einen Schlachtplan für die nächsten Tage.

Morgen werden wir den Vormittag in Hilo verbringen, dort in ein Museum und werden dann den Rest des Tages in der Container Nähe auf den lavafeldern verbringen. Am 27. geht’s dann wieder zu Kilauea, wie schlafen dann allerdings nicht mehr im Container sondern eine Nacht in Kona. Und werden unten entlang der Insel fahren.
